Those seconds of silence are enough to have his gut churning with anxiety. Regret. The desperate desire to take the words back and shove them deep down where they’ll never see the light of day. But he can’t take it back, now that the question is out there, so he forces himself to stand there, still and waiting and watching Dick, his grip on the book the only thing keeping his hands from fidgeting.

Then, Dick is grinning, bright and elated, looking like Jason’s just offered him everything he’s ever wanted, plus a trip to Disneyland, on a silver platter. Like Jason’s worth a smile like that. Again, the thought makes him ache. Again, Dick’s words filter through his mind.

You’re a better man than you think you are. Give yourself a chance.

Rather than trying to dissect any of that, any of his current feelings, he focuses on this moment, and this moment alone. Nods once, sets the book down, and grabs his jacket off the back of the couch. “Great. Let’s go.” He pauses just long enough to point a finger at Dick. “Not a word of this to Dean. I don’t need the lecture.”

And then they’re off. Jason takes Dick to a little hole in the wall dive bar in a slightly sketchy part of town. The kind of place where no one will look twice at Jason, obviously underage, drinking. Where the bartender cards him because he has to, but barely even looks at the fake ID, and clearly doesn’t give a shit whether it’s real or not, so long as Jason’s got money.

Which he does.

He maybe drinks a little too much bourbon too quickly, used to needing quite a bit to even feel tipsy, with the Pit. Normally, when he’s been drinking since Dean brought him back, he just has a beer or two. But he’s got a lot of conflicting and confusing emotions swirling around inside his brain right now, and a simple beer just wasn’t going to cut it.

“He’s such an asshole,” he laments to Dick, sitting next to him at the bar, gesturing with his glass and somehow managing not to lose a drop of his current drink. “Goddamn Pepsi, like I’m fuckin’ twelve, or somethin’. Fuck him. I fuckin’ died, Dickie.” Just in case he didn’t remember. “Twice. I think I’m allowed to have a damn beer every once in a while.”

But if I’ve gotten something wrong, or if you’ve found something I’ve written to be offending, please tell me. Of course, I’m not purposely trying to offend anyone, and I’ll try to avoid that, but we all are human, and we make mistakes. I have an unpopular and probably a controversial opinion, but as a fanfic reader, I honestly believe Tumblr is NOT a good fit for posting fanfiction, let alone multi-chapter fics when it comes to engagement of readers for a number of reasons.

First, there is how hit or miss Tumblr can be with posts not showing up in the tags correctly or not getting notifications when you're tagged. Heck, there are several blogs I follow on here that even though I have it turned on to be notified any time they post, I've yet to get a notification when they do.

Second, there's the difficulty of trying to find the first chapter/previous chapter/next chapter of a fic if the writer didn't bother to link the chapters together in some way or use a dedicated tag. I've come across way too many fics on here where I had to spend an inordinate amount of time digging through the writers blog to find the next chapter because they didn't provide any links or even use a dedicated tag for their story. After awhile, I don't care how good a fic is, having to deal with stuff like that will quickly turn me off a fic.

Third, there isn't a unified & connected tagging system here like there is on AO3. I know I'm probably missing some really good fic because it's been tagged in a different way than how I search on here. Also, I hate that fics I don't want to read keep showing up in tags I'm searching because I can't filter out tags.

So with all of that, as a fanfic reader, I much prefer to read and follow fics on AO3. In fact, the only reason I even started to read fics on Tumblr was because for the first few months after TGM came out, Tumblr was really the only place to find TGM fics. Before TGM, I never read a single fic on Tumblr.

And as a fanfic writer, I also prefer to post my fics on AO3. The few times I've posted my one shots on here (in an active fandom), I got very little engagement. And I tagged those fics six ways to Sunday and even reblogged & reposted them a few times.

But on AO3, I have fics I wrote TEN years ago still getting kudos & bookmarks when fics I posted a year ago on here will never see the light of day again unless someone decides to spend a day going through my blog or I decide to reblog/repost them because the tagging system on here either shows you the current stuff or the most popular stuff when you search a tag.

Plus with AO3 I know a kudos means someone read and enjoyed my fic even if they didn't leave a comment. I can see when someone bookmarks or favorites a fic and I can even see how many hits each fic has. I don't have to manage a tag list or run a second "library" blog because on AO3 someone can just subscribe to my fic or follow my account & AO3 will automatically send them an email when I update a fic or post a new fic. I don't have to use a million tags because a dedicated group of tag wranglers makes sure similar tags are connected.

So yeah, I know how much it sucks when it feels like you're just posting into the void on here when all you're getting is likes. And I know there is still a large number of new users on here who think likes on Tumblr work the same way they do on all the other social media sites when they actually don't and that it feels like we're shouting at a brick wall anytime we try to explain that to the new users. But at this point, I feel like fic writers on here are just beating a dead horse with every "ENGAGE WITH MY FICS OR ELSE I STOP WRITING" post I see.

You can't force people to engage with your content. Those who want to will & those who don't will continue to do so and shame posts aren't going to change that. In fact, every shame post I see makes me not want to engage with that writer. Just like us as readers have no right to demand you write & post more, writers have no right to demand engagement of readers.

And if not getting enough engagement makes you want to stop writing, then that's on you the writer and not on us, the readers. Would people miss your writing if you stopped posting? Probably. But that's your prerogative and you shouldn't try to make people feel guilty about YOUR decision.

Fair point about the difference in platforms. There are pros and cons to each, and I think it's also fair for writers to weigh what works for them. AO3 does not have PMs, which makes it way less functional for me to engage as openly as I would like. The readers who have taken the time to get to know me understand and respect that is why I am here and not always on AO3

Talk to Me as an intentional multi-chapter fic is on AO3 for its better functionality for that format and is here on tumblr for anyone who didn't catch it on AO3 and so people drop into my dms to chat about it

Asks are readers asking for writers to write and post more. And yes, writers voluntarily open their asks but that does not preclude wanting some kind of feedback for the effort they put into provide those stories. I am writing it because I LOVE the collaborative writing process of sharing ideas and getting to write something that will make someone happy. When people tell me exactly what makes them happy, I have the chance to give them more of that. I am asking for something that makes me a better writer for what they asked me for

Also, just to recap what's going on widely, readers ARE demanding that writers write and post more. That's part of the frustration people are trying to address

The Hannix Football Rivalry AU Series was "born" on tumblr (and was never meant to be a multi-chapter fic). It exists SOLELY because of reader requests, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a different level of engagement for that or want people to acknowledge you as the writer in their asks or to ask for feedback to ensure you're on the right track for making people happy

Yes, there are people who comment on and reblog everything I write. And while I deeply appreciate it, that is not at all what I expect or am asking of anyone. Just every now and then letting me know where your head's at, what you're feeling would be nice.

And this is MY controversial opinion, and I am only speaking for myself here. I'm on tumblr to engage with my readers. To me, fanfiction is a community and a relationship. That is what's meaningful about it to me. Knowing what people feel and think. I am here to write for you but also still want to feel like a person doing that. If any readers don't want to have to even consider who I am as a person or have a conversation about how I feel, I'm very comfortable with them no longer reading my work or waiting until I decide what to migrate to AO3. There are enough people in my life who only care about the work I do without caring about me as a person that I don't need that energy in a space I've created for myself <3

Hell, let's go down this post, point by point.

"Let's put an annoying popup like pinterest and instagram do that makes you sign up if you want to look at content" BAD IDEA. Are you aware how universally reviled this shit is? And do you think maybe the fact that people only see ~25 posts is because you're STOPPING THEM? That this is limiting the visibility of the artists you're claiming to want to promote? New visitors can go to tumblr.com, see a handful of pointless and irrelevant posts from Tumblr Today (the default tab on the logged-out dashboard), then get slapped with a 'lol sign up now pls' window. This does not encourage people to sign up. It makes people think tumblr is pointless and irrelevant (and annoying).

"If the user has a bad content experience, the fault lies with the product." BAD ASSUMPTION. If the user has a bad content experience, the fault often lies with how the user is using the product. If people don't understand how tumblr works (especially since you keep shuffling how dashboards work and where they're placed??) the often fault lies with the explanation. Explain your product better! You have lots of dashboards and lots of dashboard options, but they're hidden and unclear! Make things clear and stop trying to trick your users! Or if it's related to Principle #1, it's because you're actively throttling them and then wondering why they're impeded. "On average, a user only sees 25 posts per session, so the first 25 posts have to convey the value of Tumblr: it is a vibrant community with lots of untapped potential. We never want to leave the user believing that Tumblr is a place that is stale and not relevant." yeah gee after looking at Principle #1, I wonder why you're having this problem. Tumblr's algorithmic dashboards are a fucking joke. That is not an invitation to try to make them better. That's an indication you should be empowering users to know how to follow content they enjoy, and then do that, rather than trying to read their minds.

"Facilitate easier user participation in conversations." Oh? Like taking away the ability to see the previous reblog in a reblog chain? Facilitating like that? Breaking shit for no reason and coyly saying maybe you'll never replace the functionality? This is a good goal but you're not fucking doing it.

"We heard artists hate being buried in algorithms under more popular posts, and prefer a chronological feed. Let's bury them in other algorithms (they're different this time we prommy) and also hit them with lots of random & arbitrary flags from a moderation bot that doesn't work, that will definitely encourage them to post lol." Fuck you. I hardly post my work anymore and it's because of bullshit like this. We want easy, obvious chronological feeds. We want chronological lists. We want chronological tag pages. We've told you this over and over again. You want to encourage visibility of new posts and artists? That's how you fucking do it.

"What if we spam people with push notifications until we find what annoys them so much they quit. And what if we spammed them with emails when they turned off push notifications". Do you even hear yourself, intending to be as annoying and spammy as possible? You HONESTLY think this will make people like you?? I have notifications turned on for a few blogs that I CHOSE to notify me when they post. If you start spamming me with notifications I didn't ask for, I will entirely turn off notifications and send your emails directly to spam. Because that's spam. Please literally shut the fuck up.

"There is a large backlog of production issues, with more bugs created than resolved over the last 300 days. Oops. Maybe we should fix that." Maybe you shouldn't "fix" things that weren't broken to begin with? Maybe you could put shit back the way it was when you get overwhelming feedback to do that please?

Tumblr’s Core Product Strategy

Here at Tumblr, we’ve been working hard on reorganizing how we work in a bid to gain more users. A larger user base means a more sustainable company, and means we get to stick around and do this thing with you all a bit longer. What follows is the strategy we're using to accomplish the goal of user growth. The @labs group has published a bit already, but this is bigger. We’re publishing it publicly for the first time, in an effort to work more transparently with all of you in the Tumblr community. This strategy provides guidance amid limited resources, allowing our teams to focus on specific key areas to ensure Tumblr’s future.

The Diagnosis

In order for Tumblr to grow, we need to fix the core experience that makes Tumblr a useful place for users. The underlying problem is that Tumblr is not easy to use. Historically, we have expected users to curate their feeds and lean into curating their experience. But this expectation introduces friction to the user experience and only serves a small portion of our audience. 

Tumblr’s competitive advantage lies in its unique content and vibrant communities. As the forerunner of internet culture, Tumblr encompasses a wide range of interests, such as entertainment, art, gaming, fandom, fashion, and music. People come to Tumblr to immerse themselves in this culture, making it essential for us to ensure a seamless connection between people and content. 

To guarantee Tumblr’s continued success, we’ve got to prioritize fostering that seamless connection between people and content. This involves attracting and retaining new users and creators, nurturing their growth, and encouraging frequent engagement with the platform.

Our Guiding Principles

To enhance Tumblr’s usability, we must address these core guiding principles.

Expand the ways new users can discover and sign up for Tumblr.

Provide high-quality content with every app launch.

Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.

Retain and grow our creator base.

Create patterns that encourage users to keep returning to Tumblr.

Improve the platform’s performance, stability, and quality.

Below is a deep dive into each of these principles.

Principle 1: Expand the ways new users can discover and sign up for Tumblr.

Tumblr has a “top of the funnel” issue in converting non-users into engaged logged-in users. We also have not invested in industry standard SEO practices to ensure a robust top of the funnel. The referral traffic that we do get from external sources is dispersed across different pages with inconsistent user experiences, which results in a missed opportunity to convert these users into regular Tumblr users. For example, users from search engines often land on pages within the blog network and blog view—where there isn’t much of a reason to sign up. 

We need to experiment with logged-out tumblr.com to ensure we are capturing the highest potential conversion rate for visitors into sign-ups and log-ins. We might want to explore showing the potential future user the full breadth of content that Tumblr has to offer on our logged-out pages. We want people to be able to easily understand the potential behind Tumblr without having to navigate multiple tabs and pages to figure it out. Our current logged-out explore page does very little to help users understand “what is Tumblr.” which is a missed opportunity to get people excited about joining the site.

Actions & Next Steps

Improving Tumblr’s search engine optimization (SEO) practices to be in line with industry standards.

Experiment with logged out tumblr.com to achieve the highest conversion rate for sign-ups and log-ins, explore ways for visitors to “get” Tumblr and entice them to sign up.

Principle 2: Provide high-quality content with every app launch.

We need to ensure the highest quality user experience by presenting fresh and relevant content tailored to the user’s diverse interests during each session. If the user has a bad content experience, the fault lies with the product.

The default position should always be that the user does not know how to navigate the application. Additionally, we need to ensure that when people search for content related to their interests, it is easily accessible without any confusing limitations or unexpected roadblocks in their journey.

Being a 15-year-old brand is tough because the brand carries the baggage of a person’s preconceived impressions of Tumblr. On average, a user only sees 25 posts per session, so the first 25 posts have to convey the value of Tumblr: it is a vibrant community with lots of untapped potential. We never want to leave the user believing that Tumblr is a place that is stale and not relevant.

Deliver great content each time the app is opened.

Make it easier for users to understand where the vibrant communities on Tumblr are. 

Improve our algorithmic ranking capabilities across all feeds. 

Principle 3: Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.

Part of Tumblr’s charm lies in its capacity to showcase the evolution of conversations and the clever remarks found within reblog chains and replies. Engaging in these discussions should be enjoyable and effortless.

Unfortunately, the current way that conversations work on Tumblr across replies and reblogs is confusing for new users. The limitations around engaging with individual reblogs, replies only applying to the original post, and the inability to easily follow threaded conversations make it difficult for users to join the conversation.

Address the confusion within replies and reblogs.

Improve the conversational posting features around replies and reblogs. 

Allow engagements on individual replies and reblogs.

Make it easier for users to follow the various conversation paths within a reblog thread. 

Remove clutter in the conversation by collapsing reblog threads. 

Explore the feasibility of removing duplicate reblogs within a user’s Following feed. 

Principle 4: Retain and grow our creator base.

Creators are essential to the Tumblr community. However, we haven’t always had a consistent and coordinated effort around retaining, nurturing, and growing our creator base.  

Being a new creator on Tumblr can be intimidating, with a high likelihood of leaving or disappointment upon sharing creations without receiving engagement or feedback. We need to ensure that we have the expected creator tools and foster the rewarding feedback loops that keep creators around and enable them to thrive.

The lack of feedback stems from the outdated decision to only show content from followed blogs on the main dashboard feed (“Following”), perpetuating a cycle where popular blogs continue to gain more visibility at the expense of helping new creators. To address this, we need to prioritize supporting and nurturing the growth of new creators on the platform.

It is also imperative that creators, like everyone on Tumblr, feel safe and in control of their experience. Whether it be an ask from the community or engagement on a post, being successful on Tumblr should never feel like a punishing experience.

Actions & Next Steps

Get creators’ new content in front of people who are interested in it. 

Improve the feedback loop for creators, incentivizing them to continue posting.

Build mechanisms to protect creators from being spammed by notifications when they go viral.

Expand ways to co-create content, such as by adding the capability to embed Tumblr links in posts.

Principle 5: Create patterns that encourage users to keep returning to Tumblr.

Push notifications and emails are essential tools to increase user engagement, improve user retention, and facilitate content discovery. Our strategy of reaching out to you, the user, should be well-coordinated across product, commercial, and marketing teams.

Our messaging strategy needs to be personalized and adapt to a user’s shifting interests. Our messages should keep users in the know on the latest activity in their community, as well as keeping Tumblr top of mind as the place to go for witty takes and remixes of the latest shows and real-life events.  

Most importantly, our messages should be thoughtful and should never come across as spammy.  

Actions & Next Steps

Conduct an audit of our messaging strategy.

Address the issue of notifications getting too noisy; throttle, collapse or mute notifications where necessary.  

Identify opportunities for personalization within our email messages. 

Test what the right daily push notification limit is. 

Send emails when a user has push notifications switched off.

Principle 6: Performance, stability and quality.

The stability and performance of our mobile apps have declined. There is a large backlog of production issues, with more bugs created than resolved over the last 300 days. If this continues, roughly one new unresolved production issue will be created every two days. Apps and backend systems that work well and don't crash are the foundation of a great Tumblr experience. Improving performance, stability, and quality will help us achieve sustainable operations for Tumblr.

Improve performance and stability: deliver crash-free, responsive, and fast-loading apps on Android, iOS, and web.

Improve quality: deliver the highest quality Tumblr experience to our users. 

Move faster: provide APIs and services to unblock core product initiatives and launch new features coming out of Labs.

Aaaaand I'm going on a rant now. People don't really view tumblr users the same way they do accounts on platforms they are active on themselves... I think over there they understand it's nice to see a notif come in and so they do the same for others, meanwhile tumblr is some other plane of existence where we do not require the same treatment and a post can sit on 2 reblogs but have 40K likes on someones instagram on your explore page (this actually happened to me)... and the amount of times I've seen a completely deepfried screenshotted post of mine that's been taken to twitter then to instagram over to a tiktok and then part of a youtube compilation post, one that would sit on less than 100 notes, one that got who knows how many interactions each step of that journey, and none of that response ever reaching me, while I made it. (not to mention the follow button is visible in the screenshot more often than not) Also. I'm out here writing posts first of all mainly for myself but in a way tailored to my bubble, tailored to you, to the people I see in my notifs. You're in the back of my mind when writing it, the fucking tiktok horde isn't. If someone grabs that and runs with it.. it's not meant for twitter or tiktok like I haven't written it in a way for that .. bubble.. to understand, it's for my tumblr friends who I know will have context. Like there's a baseline of understanding in this place that's not there on other platforms. And I try to spell some things out sometimes just in case it'll reach some new people, other times I'm just shitposting for my friends yk. So don't bring it somewhere it just brings up questions in a pool of people not capable of answering it without notifying the person who wrote it, leaving it up for interpretation out in a void of "WHAT" and "I-" and "HUH"'s like that's just a bit frustrating when it's your words yk. (ok that got sidetracked)

Some people don't mind the reposting, others you're making very very uncomfortable. Because exposing the @ of someone's blog they consider their safe space to an audience they don't know is scary as fuck, especially because there's an anon ask option on this hellsite. Like the thing is you're possibly sending anon hate our way. "Namjoon-ah,"

"Yes, hyung?"

"Would you bail me out of jail?"

Namjoon stares at me as if I've lost my mind, he's not wrong. It's been years since I've lost my mind, I just keep growing more and more insane.

"What makes you say that hyung?"

"She still wears those god damned shoes," I grunt as I close the car door too hard making Jungkook who was sitting in the back with Hobi whining and complaining about how I shut the door to hard. Namjoon chuckles as he gently closes the passenger door and walks up next to me, "You've been saying that for years, hyung. Fuck, you even wrote a great track out of it."

"I don't know if she's playing dumb with me or if she's just fucking clueless that it's about her," I huff as I watch her run towards an ice cream truck, "It's literally me telling her to wear something aside from those damn shoes, she'd look in something else,"

Yeah, they’ll be too good to be true

"So you did say in the song," Namjoon agrees "Maybe she thinks its just another song of ours,"

"Namjoon-ah," I sighed exasperated "She's probably the only person we know that wears the abomination like they're slippers," he chuckles "I fucking bought her Fila, Jordan, Louis Vuitton, McQueen, Doc Martens and even damn Christian Louboutin stilettos, but I bet she just put them all on the rack like a collector,"

"I saw her wear the Louboutin's," he comments

"Fucking when?" I asked

"On her 21st birthday," he says

"I don't remember seeing her wearing those," I scrunch my nose at him

"Well," he sighs "You both weren't exactly on best terms that year,"

"Oh," I look down at my shoes burying them further in the sand as I remember the moment where I thought was the end of the two of us. I look back at where Y/n was standing in line with other kids and adults wanting to buy ice cream despite the chilly weather, sensing that I was looking at her, she turns to me and through the mask I could tell she was smiling the way her eyes slightly squinted. She points at the truck as her eyebrows shoot up, almost as if she was asking me if I wanted one, I smile with my mask down on my chin as I shake my head. She raises a thumbs up at me and focuses on the truck again as I pull my mask up to cover my face again and turned to Namjoon.

"Not to bother you, but when do you plan on telling her how you feel?" he asks "I mean it's been what? Eight years? Don't you think it's about time you told her that you love her?"

"Soon," I shot back

"You've said that for years now,"

"Ya! It sounds easy but it's really had to do!" he chuckles "I've been trying to tell her in a very non-subtle way with our songs, but all of a sudden she runs around asking me why I never wrote a song about her,"

"She did what now?!" he asks eye widening.

But perhaps I’ve already been colored by you<

"Wait what? Did I hear you right, hyung?" Hobi asks as he stands next to Namjoon and I, Jungkook joining us and we watch Jimin and Taehyung take pictures of the sunset. We were back at Santa Monica beach after Days one and two of Permission to Dance on stage in LA, it was a mini-break while other were at school or at work during the weekday, we chose a little time out. Namjoon was planning to stay after the concert ends to travel around and visit museums, I decided to tag along as soon as I was done with producing Girl of My Dreams. And I took advantage of this mini-break of ours to visit the beach and hang out with Y/n before I dove back to work, with not just one song, but also Jungkook's upcoming track 'Stay Alive'.

"She asked me a few days ago why I never wrote a song about her after we had a few drinks," I sighed kicking the sand lightly as I walked "I told her she never asked,"

"Wait," Jungkook stopped walking "She doesn't know? She doesn't know that most of the songs you wrote were about her?"

"Especially your parts?" Namjoon asks again eyes wide as saucers

"Sorry, hyung, but we can help but over hear you," Jimin says as he walks up to us "You weren't exactly quiet," he says in a voice only the six of us could hear, Jin hyung was back at the hotel choosing sleep over the beach. I don't blame him, if Y/n wasn't staring at me with puppy eyes I couldn't resist I'd still be in bed. Maybe drag her with me and use her as a pillow just to smell her watermelon scented shampoo and feel her warmth, with her head on my chest.

"It's been eight years, hyung," Taehyung says as he sits next to me on the log we found "When are you going to tell her that you love her?"

"I don't love her," I reply too quickly and when I look up I find my brothers staring at me like I'm the most ridiculous fool on earth,

"No shit," Namjoon says squinting as he pulls up a hand and starts counting tapping on a finger as he goes, "Embarrassed, DNA, Fake Love. Like you haven't displayed your love for her out in the open by showing jealousy, possessiveness, and basically trying to tell her she's your damn soulmate even destiny is pissed off with how you two are acting like children!"

"Namjoon-ah," Hobi gaffaws at how furious Namjoon looks "You forgot I NEED U and telepathy," Hobi says and Namjoon counts those as well

"Oh! Oh! Don't forget my universe, boy with luv and make it right" Taehyung adds

"The truth untold, pied piper" Jimin adds the two songs to the list and they all stare at each other before they said "Seesaw" in unison before laughing.

"Yeah, no shit, you don't love her," Hobi says as he laughs "You even wrote a song about the shoes she always wears because you hate them so much hoping she would get the hint but she didn't because she thought Namjoon wrote it because of a k-drama," making the other members laugh some more. I rub my hands on my face as I watch her walk towards us. Those shoes change colors as years pass for fuck's sake, they're still the same old school, old fashioned high tops.

Anyway, don’t wear converse when you meet me

Rather than the stars in that sky, I’d like to see the stars on your shoes<

"Fucking Converse high." I mutter frustrated, stomping my foot on the sand like a child making the other members laugh some more at my actions.

"What happened to you?" Y/n asks as she reaches us "Who stole your candy?"

"No one stole it," Jungkook says as he takes a deep breath "He dropped it,"

"Now that's just devastating, poor kid" she says as she sits next to me, nudging me with her hip as if telling me to move, standing once again when I didn't move.

"Hey! My spot is warm," I playfully complain, not moving from where I was sitting "Sit elsewhere,"

She stares at me as she eats a scoop of her ice cream from the tiny cup, huffs then shrugs before saying "Fine then," and sitting on my lap making the other members laugh loudly, including the staff that joined with us, causing the few people at the beach stare at us.

When the situation finally registered in my brain I wrap my arms around her almost instinctively and pull her close to my chest and I feel her tense up.

"Why so tense?" I ask her and she turns her head to look at me before pulling my mask down, letting it rest below my chin and shoving a spoonful of mint chocolate ice cream in my mouth

"Get your hands off of me Yoongi Min," she warns playfully

"You're the one who got on my lap, woman!" I talk back at her making the other members laugh at my reaction with the sudden intrusion of the flavor of the ice cream.

"You won't fucking move, man!"

"It's fucking cold, woman!" I complain "I need warmth, I'm freezing"

"That's the reason I wanted your seat! My ass is cold!" we raise our voices at each other playfully and the boys watch us like a ping pong match.

"Ah shibal ya!" I exclaim "I'd rather warm your ass with my bare hands than move from my spot!" I yell in satoori as I look at the other members who fall into another round of laughter ringing in the air. I scowl when I see Hobi point his Polaroid camera at us taking a picture of Y/n on my lap smiling like a champion and me looking like I lost the lottery and gone bankrupt.

"You two are crazy," he comments chuckling "Y/n-ssi, you're cold but you're eating ice cream,"

"It's delicious, minty choco~" she says in a small voice, I would've cooed at her cuteness if only Joon didn't start making retching sounds. She eventually relaxes in my arms and gently rests her head on my left shoulder, sitting with both her legs on one side as she ate happily.

She stays like that on my lap for a few more minutes before the other members suggest we leave the beach and head to a Korean grocery to get some familiar food - mostly ramen, before heading back to the hotel. I was at the wine aisle when Y/n walked up to me with a lot of and different bags of flavored seeweed chips. My eyes instantly fall on her converse that she wore for the day and before I could even stop myself, I ended up opening my mouth and the tactless question was asked.

"Why do you wear those fucking things?"

"Huh? What?" she asks "Which one?"

"Converse high," I say nodding my head in her direction "I guess it would be fine to see you wearing the low ones or maybe sneakers with a cute dress on but why the fuck do you wear those high tops all the damn time?"

"Jeez," she says as she slowly places the snacks on the cart "Calm down with the cursing, Yoongi,"

"I'm just asking," I raise my hands as if the surrender "Curiosity,"

"Why the negative feedback on my babies?" she asks pouting "I love my converse,"

"Where are the shoes I bought you?" I ask pouting "the basketball ones, they're high tops too and much more comfortable than those. Why aren't you wearing those?"

"They're back home," she walks to stand beside me looping her arms around mine as I slowly push the cart.

"Why not wear those?" I slightly raise my voice defensively "You look better wearing those than the... usual,"

"But these are my favorite!" she pouts and I pout back at her

"But you said you liked the ones I got you and you said you'd wear them more!" she shuts up and stares at my eyes before sighing and gently rests her head on my once-very-injured-and-untreated-for-years-shoulder.

"I'm sorry, Sugs," she looks up at me with round puppy like eyes "I didn't mean to offend you," she wraps her arms around me and I wrap my left arm around her shoulder, my thumb lazily rubbing her shoulder blade.

"I'll wear them more," she says nuzzling her face on my neck "But why do you hate my Converse so much?" she asks in a small voice

"Promise me you won't be weirded out and that you'd still consider wearing something else that's not... those," I point at her shoes

"I promise," she says hugging me tighter "I promise,"

I took a deep breath before saying in a low voice, "You don't look good. I hate them. You look hotter if not sexier in other sneakers or even more in heels. Those things don't do anything with your look, it makes me want to throw em out. they do nothing for your sexy figure,"

She stares at me as I spoke, then she walks out of my arms running away like she was up to no good; looking like a T-rex.

"Oppa!" she calls out "Yoongi is being weird again!"

"Ya!" I call after her as I push the cart and follow her

"Oppa!" she walks behind Namjoon and Hobi, holding the back of their hoodies as she explained what I told her to Joon.

"Why did you run?!" I ask her "You promised!"

"I didn't promise I won't run, Yoongi!"

"But you promised you wouldn't be weirded out!" I exclaimed

"Friends don't call each other sexy or hot, especially not guys to girls,"

"Hey!!! That's where you're wrong, baby," I squint "We're close friends! Close friends! Best friends, baby!" I yell, thrusting my arms in the air with crazy motions along with the words I say.

From the other aisle I hear Jungkook and Jimin's laugh mingle with Taehyung, Hobi and Namjoon's voices and the sound of Y/n's palm hitting her forehead.

"Ever noticed that your rap in Miss Right fits what you want with Y/n?, Yoongi-ya?" Jin asks me as he sat next to me at the hotel's restaurant for breakfast. The other members already sat down and were eating breakfast, I was just waiting for Y/n who was making her way around the food warmers. The hotel's restaurant was closed down with breakfast being delivered to guests rooms, but the management was kind enough to let us and the staff enjoy our meal here along with other businessmen and businesswomen who looked too serious to even notice us.

"Why are you asking all of a sudden, hyung?" I ask as I keep an eye on Y/n .

"I was listening to our old songs last night when i came across Miss Right and heard your rap," Namjoon looks up from his plate to Jin as if he grew another pair of heads like a hydra.

"Oh shit!" he exclaims "He's right! Damn! You two really are soulmates!"

"Keep your voice down, Namjoon-ah!" Jin quietly scolds him and he quickly apologizes before shoving food in his mouth to shut up.

"Soulmates," Jin repeats shaking his head "Armys would be happy to know that Min Yoongi's soulmate has been his muse for years now.

"You mentioned to the others you're gonna tell her soon about the songs and the truth? How?" he asks as I watch her make her way towards the waffle table in her shorts, white t-shirt and those fucking shoes and her dark blue hair down. I throw my head back and internally groaned closing my eyes to avoid the sight of her legs that seemed to go on and on... then you see those abominations that ruin her look.

"The exact same way I've been trying to tell her I love her, but hopefully this time she finally gets it."

"And what if, she doesn't get it?" Namjoon asks me.

"Then I have to find another way, I guess" I shrug making Jin shake his head in disappointment.

"Yoongi-ya!" he groans "It's been almost a decade! When are you going to do it? When are you going to tell her that you love her?! When you're 40?!"

Behind us where Hobi, Taehyung, Jimin and Jungkook were sitting Hobi snorts loudly followed by heavy coughing and Jungkook tapping his back.

"You don't find a woman like her every day, hyung," Jungkook says from the seat behind me "You're lucky that she's still around and single. If you don't do something about it you're gonna end up waiting until you're both old and gray, or worse, she's married to someone else."

"It's not to pressure you hyung," Jimin says calmly "It's just a little confidence boost. We know you love her and that you two are obviously meant to be together."

"As a believer in destiny, I believe in the fact that she's it for you" Namjoon says as he drinks his coffee "If she wasn't meant for you, she would still be with that scum bag and she would've stopped being friends with you. Destiny returned her to you when it knew you were ready to be with her. All you had to do was take your steps, unfortunately you only made a few baby steps and didn't take the big step. Or as they call it, leap of faith".

"Don't wait for her to slip away from your fingers, Yoongi," Jin says with a tone of finality "She's right in front of you every day, she learned a new language and culture just to be friends with you,"

"She also moved counties, left a guy and chose your friendship over the asshat," Taehyung points out "If that doesn't

"Leap of faith," Hobi happily says from behind me as I watch her walk towards our table, her plate piled up with different kinds of food. Mainly protein and carbs.

"Buffets fear you, Y/n-ssi" Namjoon says when she sits down beside him.

"It's breakfast, Joonie," she says as she shoves a spoonful of omelette and bacon bits into her mouth followed by a baked potato wedge then continues with her mouth full, "Most important meal of the day!"

"Ya! Manners. Chew your food before you start talking you big baby" I lightly scold her

"Ya!~ Manners.~ Be a gentleman and get me a cup of coffee~ " she shot back adorably with a sting when swallowed her food when she saw me get up eyeing the coffee machine. I hear the other members snort laugh and chuckle as they try to control themselves from laughing too loud at 8am. She was the only woman who had the audacity to not use honorifics with me and I let it pass because I love her, she isn't exactly Korean. But moments like this where she'd act cute but lace it with venom sometimes make me wonder what planet she came from or how in the world did I end up falling in love with a woman who was not only quite similar to me with a combination of all the members various traits, but someone you'd only see in movies or read in books who have such confidence that makes you want to kiss the living shit out of them. And even though that confidence was mostly just around the seven of us and a few of the staff who have been with us for so long, I still loved the little outbursts.

What was only embarrassing about the way she caught me off guard, was I had no comeback so I just stared at her for a minute before shaking my head, making sure she heard me I muttered "You're gonna pay for that, baby" as I went and grabbed two cups of coffee for the two of us, only to be rewarded by a flying kiss and a thank you, with a chuckling Jin. I did say she absorbed a few traits of the other members, didn't I?

"I'm bored" she complains as we sit in the gazebo we found at the park. It wasn't too far from the hotel and the concert venue, but it was far enough to get some peace from the buzz of the staff and the others. I wanted to go alone but I needed inspiration, so I dragged Y/n along with me. She was reading a historical romance novel about an Old Hollywood star and her seven husbands that she said was rumoured to be adapted into a movie some time next year or later.

"You're reading a book, you can't be that bored," I smiled at her through my face mask "You didn't even spare a glance in my direction the second opened that book and kept reading. Now that you're done with eleven pages, you're telling me you're bored? How?"

She stares at me for a second before sitting up, placing a bookmark before she places the book in between us on the table, "Were you watching me the whole time?"

"Jagiya, how can I not? I'm writing a song and you're in front of me. Naturally, my attention was else where because of my ADHD. You caught my eye, Jagiya..." I muttered the last part

"Did you just call me 'Jagiya'?!" she exclaimed, eyes wide. a new reaction compared to the countless times I playfully called her that, even a far off reaction to almost two weeks ago when I asked her to join us for the tour.

"W-what? N-no," I stuttered "You're hearing things," she squints her eyes at me

"I know what I heard, Yoongi"

"Your ears?" I say as I point at my own "Broken. Your ears are broken.

"And you're gonna be broken if you say it again," she laid back down, book on hand.

"What's wrong if I did call you Jagiya?" I ask as I tread on dangerous waters "Are you dating someone?"

She puts her book down and sits once more "No, I'm not. But, I just think we shouldn't joke around with the endearments anymore, Sugs. What if someone recognizes you and hears us? They might think we're dating and I don't like to put that idea in their heads-"

"What's wrong with us and dating?" I cut her off defensively "Don't you think it's... cool if we, who have been friends for eight years, end up dating?"

"Yoongi, it's just think it's wrong-"

"And I just want to know why you'd think that way?" I slightly raise my voice out of frustration, tossing the notepad that was once on my lap onto the table, "We've been calling each other endearments since 2015! We've been like this since 2015! What's wrong about it now?"

"Yoongi, calm down-"

"I can't calm down when you're saying stuff like that to me!" I naturally slip into satoori during my outburst and it didn't stop there.

"Calm down, Yoongi!" she firmly says "You're being irrational, calm down! All I'm trying to say is that I don't want you to be in trouble for being with someone like me. If they assume we're dating, it's not going to look good for your image,"

"Fuck my image, Y/n-ssi!" I spat out "You say shit like that and I feel like we're back to square one all over again. It's like the Love Yourself tour all over again. For fuck's sake, just tell me if you want me gone because you're seeing someone who yet again wants you away from me" I slip back and forth between the Seoul dialect and Daegu dialect.

"Yoongi, that's not it" she says "I'm not seeing anyone, you're the only one I'm always with"

"Fuck that shit," I scoff "this is exactly what you said to me before the fucking scum bag told me to cut ties with you!"

"Wait what?" she asks

"You fucking heard me!" I got up and grabbed my notepad, song writing long forgotten "The son of a bitch told me that you said you didn't want me around anymore and told me to fuck off. I didn't believe a single shit he said until I saw you run to his arms like some sort of fairy tale happy ending." I stepped out of the gazebo and looked back at her "You looked like you met your fucking prince charming and I looked like the villain when all I was an NPC in a game; programmed to say back, shut up and watch as you walked away from me, and I was left to wonder if I was ever going to see you again when you left with him without even saying goodbye."

I sighed heavily, rubbing my hand over my forehead, "Do you think it was easy to lose someone so close to you? I felt dead inside, Y/n! You, the members, you're all I have. I miss my family back home but you're more prominent than home. He fucking told me to cut ties with you, told me that you hated- no fuck that, he said you loathed me, because I was being weird and clingy all those years and he told me that you asked him to say with him for the night so that I'd stay away from you, and I believed him when I saw you smile at him and kissed him" I raised my hands up as if to motion around me "How do you think my world was huh? Watching you go out of town with him, spend time together like it was a fucking honeymoon, leaving without a trace only to apologize saying you're already back home in your country. What the fuck am I to you, Y/n?!" I ask with tears in my eyes

"Yoongi, I didn't kn-" she tried to say but I cut her off again.

"You what? Don't bother answering. I already know I'm just a friend to you. It's okay." I scoff as I walk away to one of the two cars that went with us to the park. By the time I reached the hotel lobby, I don't even know how our conversation ended up there, but I didn't care. It was all out there now. Now she knew why for two years I avoided her. Those years I did nothing but write about love, pain and heartbreak. Her. It was all about her and for her. And it was for me; younger Min Yoongi who wanted so bad to tell Y/n L/n how he would leave everything behind if he could and all she had to do was say the word.

"Make sure she gets back safe, and join her if she needs to go somewhere," I inform security to inform the other staff "Keep an eye on her please, make sure she's okay and that she doesn't go anywhere alone, I just need sometime alone, I can't see her when I'm like this" our head of security nods as he presses on his ear piece to transmit the message.

"What happened?" Jin and Namjoon asks as they catch what I told our security to do "Where's Y/n? I thought you took her with you?"

"Do you remember what I told you during the Love Yourself Tour about... him?" I ask Namjoon quietly and he nods

"Yeah, why?" he asks

"I told her about it, minus that I've been in love with her for.. a while now." I sighed "I need sometime alone. I'll see you guys later," I wave at them as I walk to the elevator and made my way back to my room, half relieved that a good weight off of my shoulders has been lifted, half mixed emotions of regretting my actions and concern that if I didn't lose her then, I might have led myself into losing her by my own actions.

Rather than holding a designer bag, you hold my hand, and rather than getting jealous and envious, you understand my inner character,

A pair of kids’ sneakers between our matching shoes<

All I wanted was her. And now I've made my situation worse, the thought that I kept asking myself as I went back in my hotel room and got ready for an early bedtime was how do I undo my actions from earlier at the park. No doubt she's probably understood by now how I feel about her, but it was the right thing to do... right?

I mean, she was supposed to be my soulmate. She is my soulmate...

...right?

Hey Nonny *hugs*

Thank you kindly <3 Unfortunately, the real life work situation is a "waiting game" right now, so not much anyone can help me with in that regard, unless someone wants to hire me for art commissions or graphic design work, heh. I am a freelancer, I just don't advertise that here since I think very little of myself.

The brain issues, working through it with my therapist. I see her again on Monday, but sadly my insurance only covers twelve sessions for the whole year, so... I'm getting close to that threshold, so I might see if anyone is interested in commissioning me for something so I can make SOME of that money back, or maybe, if no one is opposed to it, turning on the "Tips" feature on my fic rec and meta posts since those are the ones I put a lot of time and effort into. I just never turned it on because I didn't want people to think ill of me. I've been in a bit of a financial bind since my summer holidays... I REALLY needed it, and I don't regret spending the money I did to DO it, but sadly my car ALSO decided it needed 1K in repairs right after that trip, so while it's debt I CAN afford to pay back eventually, I guess I'm just stressed because I'm in a job-limbo right now WHILE I've got that debt, and it's stressing me out. On a 60 day work notice, so I'm still employed just have to get my new contract.

Blog wise – and maybe this is just something I'm not being notified by Tumblr on, which is highly probable since I don't seem to get notified when I'm tagged – reblog my posts if y'all like them... I know a lot of y'all come from an "algorithm" generation, so something y'all might not know is that Tumblr really doesn't have that, so the only way I get any notice on my stuff is if y'all reblog or promote my stuff around. And I KNOW it gets shared around on other sites (I was told once they found me from a FaceBook post... *shrugs*), but screen caps of my blog only gets ya so far, ya know?

Anyway, don't mind me. This brain thing of mine happens occasionally, and I am just cycling through all my therapist's techniques to try to cope and none of them are working, so it's just making me more anxious. A hot chocolate and a proper sleep might help. I'll keep y'all posted.

How to grow your blog - For Beginners!

Since I receive quite a few messages about how I grew my blog and how others could improve theirs, I decided to do this post to help you with whatever knowledge I gathered throughout my time on here.

Disclaimer: These are only my personal observations, there's no proven success if used and they may differ in other people's case.

So, I guess it's time for us to begin :)

Interactions

First and foremost, interactions are the most important elements of Tumblr. These can include asks/ comments/ reblogs/ reblogs with comments and any sort of interactions with other blogs.

Asks are important because while you're having fun and chatting away with people, your name shows up on their blog and their followers might be intrigued by your user name or what you said and they check out your blog.

Comments. When you read a fic or see a beautiful edit and leave a comment on that certain post, most of the time the creator will check out your profile and other people who leave comments might find you sweet and head to your blog as well. It's nothing deep with an underlying meaning. It's simple curiosity. If what you write is kind or relatable, people feel drawn to you.

Reblogs. Reblogs are one of the most important part of Tumblr. That's the only way your art can be spread. Sure, tags are important and helpful, but reblogs are the ones that keep your art alive. When you reblog a post you're essentially sharing someone else's content with 10, 100 or 1000 people without your knowledge.

Reblogs with comments are possibly the most important and significant part of this site. You don't just share someone else's art, you also add your positive comment to it, which draws people's attention. When you reblog someone else's art, they might check out your blog and they might reblog yours. Of course, it's not a rule nor should it be expected, but from my personal experiences, I have gained loads of followers through my mutuals. Their kind words and love for my fics have drawn quite a large traffic to my blog and vice versa.

Masterlists / Navigations

Many people will tell you that tags are enough and you don't need a Masterlist. I disagree. Whilst tags are good and useful, tumblr's tags aren't reliable and on top of that people can be quite lazy. The easiest way to showcase your art - whether it be fanfiction, fanart, gifs, drawings, video edits and such - is to basically offer them to your visitors/followers on a silver platter. It can be a bother at times, always keeping it up to date, but when people have to search for your content they get discouraged because let's be honest, we like things that are easily accessible.

Masterlists can be a single Tumblr post or a Google drive document where you add the link of your creations. In my Masterlist you can find different characters, organised by different fandoms. If you use Google drive make the document readable [but not editable] for the public.

Some people, such as myself, create Navigation posts, where they add relevant sub menus which help their followers navigate easier on their blogs. These can contain where to send "asks", "rules" that the owner of the blog might set, "blog recommendations", "side blogs", "about me" menus and the like.

Tags

Although I mentioned that tags can be unreliable, they're still a necessity. Search for relevant tags and use them when you post your art. Meanwhile reblogging is the easiest way to get your creations out there, people do regularly search for tags when they wish to see something and the only way they will find you is if your post appears in tags.

If you're not sure whether your tags are working, you can always head to your dashboard, click on the 👤 in the right upper corner, go down to the posts menu and look for the post you want to check on. Once you found it, click on the tag that you would like to search for. If it shows up in the recent tab of the search results, it means the tag is working, but if after 5 minutes of posting it's still not there, you might need to reupload your work. Unfortunately Tumblr has some issues with the tags and it takes two or even three attempts at times to upload something correctly, whilst other times it might work immediately.

On a side note, if you reblog nsfw content or triggering content, you might want to tag those appropriately. Tw food, tw blood, tw. etc. Depends on the content of the triggering post.

You can also create your own tags. Such as "XY's inbox" for your asks or "XY shares" for anything that you reblog from others. This way people can block those tags and see only those posts on your blog that they might find interesting.

Taglists

Taglists aren't a necessity, especially because there are many different ways to notify your followers of new creations, but it's certainly useful. The reason I think taglists are important is because tumblr won't always show your posts on everyone's dashboard, especially if they follow loads of people. However, when you use a taglist, and mention people on your newest posts, they will be able to get a notification of your update.

Of course, if you feel like tagging people might be bothersome, you might create a side-blog where you reblog your posts and people can turn on notifications to be notified of your updates. This option has been rather popular recently, because usually we reblog and post many things on our main blogs and people don't want to get notified about every trivial post, so a side-blog with the most important posts might just be it for you.

Simplicity

This might be confusing so let me be less vague. As I said, we can be rather lazy and that doesn't mean we're bad people, we might just had a difficult day or too much to study or work and we just want easy access to content. Being simple is a necessity. Though it's good to be creative and unique, such as creating a Masterlist that's called "Where the stars shine", it's not obvious for many what is hidden behind those words and they might not be curious enough to check it out. By being simple and obvious, as I said before, you're offering your content on a silver platter. Simple and neat. Sometimes people just need things to be easy to find.

I have been told many times before that my blog is very organised and I feel very proud about that because it means people can find things easily. Of course, it's not proven, but I think that could be a factor in growing your blog. But as I've said, these are only my personal observations.

I haven't said anything here because who reads blog entries anyway, and why fuck up other people's feeds but then I remembered I probably have nine followers. Sorry y'all.

Tomorrow we bury my sister. Her ashes, anyway. She died a couple of weeks ago. She was 28 years old and maybe it was a heroin overdose or maybe it was the pneumonia she'd had for awhile or maybe she wanted to get gone, any and all those things are possible and maybe probable. I am now my parents' only daughter again and let me tell you it sucks ass in a way that you can't understand unless you've been there when that phone call comes in and your almost 80 year old mother makes a noise that isn't human and everything in you does not want to grab that phone from her but you can't just let her hold onto it like that. So I took it and the boyfriend had stayed out all night and gotten home in the morning and found her dead and called 911 and then us and I talked to the paramedics and the cops and I had to tell them my parents are elderly, I'll be taking point on this, and I think I maybe reblogged a cute jikook post because that's what dissociatives do in times of crisis. Fast forward ten hours and I had driven the parents to another state, made arrangements for cremation and a (gulp) body viewing for literally the next morning and notified everyone I could think of that would care or need to know. One task melted into another and then it was time to look at her and I've been a nurse nearly as long as my sister was alive, I knew what to expect but my parents did not. Let the maladaptive daydreaming commence between tasks. I almost convinced myself the Jeon Jeongguk is straight. Almost. I picked an urn and picked up the remains of the day and my sister and drove my parents two states back home while we fielded intrusive questions about funerals and memorials which we were not gonna have so someone else threw a BYOB and published it in the paper, cool. She would have loved it. I didn't go. I left and came home with the shattered hearts of my parents as souvenirs. Then I bought a car because why the fuck not. I've always wanted a cute little Mini Cooper and it's not like I had anything else to do and I paid cash and bought insurance and drove off the lot with it so now I have a car named J-Mini (get it get it) because nothing like a knee jerk major purchase in the middle of intense grief, right? My father picked out my sister's plot because my mother couldn't go and I was... buying a car. That wasn't my best day but it was really the only day I checked out completely. I mean except the other five to seven business days I don't remember but I did stuff because my dad says I fed them and made sure they ate and took care of things. I'm good at that. Also kookmin and Memories 20 why hasn't that shipped yet and I think I also got the MOTS ON;E DVD set and finished my Funko Pop set. Goals, kids. Gotta achieve goals. And I also redid my parents upstairs guest suite and turned it into my office because the next novel is not gonna write itself. A little death opens up my dad's wallet and we are both OCD writers who are task oriented and very good at finding poor coping mechanisms for trauma. It's a nice office and can still function as a guest room (it's a huge room). I put the Keurig I bought so my mom would have okay coffee before viewing her daughter's body in my new office. Just brewed the first cup today and it tastes like death to me but what are you gonna do, it's salted caramel death at least. So I'm sitting in my new office looking out the plantation shutters that make up the view, idly watching my new car sit in its cute parking spot and planning the next 36 hours. Her flowers should get here soon. I ordered real ones, the rainbow tie dye looking roses. We're not supposed to take them to the cremation garden where her headstone will be because small plots and what the fuck ever seriously do not tell me that my mother cannot bring her baby girl flowers. She's dead, assholes. She's not coming back and she didn't say goodbye and the first

time my father had seen his little girl in almost two years she was cold and decidedly nonverbal and had a bruise on the tip of her nose nobody could explain and I later figured out was from her puppy trying to boop it to wake her up when she wasn't going to be waking up ever again. Fuck that. Flowers it is. I'm on food takeout duty and also my sister's best guy friend of forever might be driving here for the interment, we didn't tell most people when it was and he's nine hours away but he hasn't let us know if he's gonna stay here or what so I guess it's good the guest room office is clean, he has three twin beds to choose from so I'll probably only change the sheets on two of them because hospitality roulette seems fair given that the service is fucking tomorrow and we're trying to plan shit over here. That's a run-on sentence kids. I guess maybe the rest of the day is not snapping at people. I watered my mom's extensive flower garden but I do that every day. I took the small envelope of extra ashes from my dad because he broke down and I put them in a pretty butterfly notecard with a pink envelope and stashed my sister's nose or fingertips or random internal tissues neatly sealed in my jewelry box. Why we have them when the rest of her is already at the cemetery is because people ASKED FOR THEM like wtf why are we making earrings out of my dead sister but my parents said yes before they said no. And I called the funeral home and ARRANGED THIS SHIT so now I get to handle it. Guess I'll dole them out a gram at a time like cocaine. Oddly fitting I suppose, that part of her is in what amounts to a heroin baggie. Don't shoot up, kids. Just don't. And if you must shoot up make sure you have Narcan around and someone available to give it to you. And that your dealer isn't cutting with fentanyl or some shit. Also make sure you're not physically sick with pneumonia that might or might not have been COVID Delta, we don't know yet because toxicology and death certificates take time and I'm in charge of bugging the coroner and just haven't wanted to have to tell my parents that YES SHE WAS HIGH AF WE BEEN KNEW THERE WAS A FUCKING NEEDLE IN BED WITH HER JFC I mean they know but they'd rather it be COVID and who can blame them. Also to my sister if you offed yourself I get it and I'm not mad at you most of the time. I do understand why and frankly it might have been kinder to do it than to keep siphoning rent every month and your drug money and living expenses on the weekly if that's how you were gonna keep living, because your drama was constant and painful and caused a lot of shit and it wasn't fun for you or anyone else. But I love you and I'm so sorry you hurt so much that you had to handle it that way. And I'm sorry I'm so much older than you'll ever be and that I survived and you didn't. If i think of what this place used to be and what it is now i really wanna know. do people read fics anymore? it feels like if you're not into trr, you might as well not write which is sad because there are so many other good books to explore and so many talented writers get ignored because everyone just wants to promote their friends. I feel like leaving cause i don't have a place here. Why spend free time writing if no one likes your shit?

It certainly is different than when I came two years ago. Then TRR was somewhere around book 3 right before it started, ES was still updating, we were on the Sophomore and we had so many less books that it wasn’t like writers were stretched thin. We had some others but those were the big updating books, and they all were popular and all had amazing fics written for them.

I think we have three major problems we are dealing with.

1) Tumblr.

The tags barely work. People aren’t being notified. I know I used to get emails for every tag and I would save them so I’d remember to find them later. But then there are people who aren’t getting notified at all.

And let’s not forget that Tumblr keeps changing the rules for the search which makes things more complicated than it needs to be. We used to be able to have links to our Masterlists and tag in the fic and still be found in the search, for a long time that was hiding you.

I was checking for a friend last week and found things I had just posted with links and tags in the search under the tags I used, so hopefully that issue is gone, but we still aren’t getting all our notifications which is hurting us, big time.

2) Too much, too fast.

I love that we are getting new genres and new books but the pace that PB is rolling them out is actually a really big factor in the amount of fics we are seeing for certain books.

Think about it, if you have five books you love, two ideas to write for each, but only time to write three of the stories you are more likely to write for the books that are getting more attention first even if they are older and a more saturated market. We know there is interest in those books and people will read the stories, why write if no one is reading?

So in a way the fact that we are getting so many new books at once is killing our creativity because we still have lives to tend to and can’t write every idea we get.

3) The readers.

Yes I’m calling out the readers cause I’ve noticed that there are so many less reblogs then there used to be.

Likes are nice, but most people have them hidden. If no one can see what you like what is the point of it?

Also unlike AO3 we don’t know every time someone clicked on our fic, so we only know someone read it by a like, reblog, or comment. If people are ghost reading we have no clue and then we feel like we aren’t creating quality content and that’s why no one is reading. But the problem really is that less and less people are reblogging stories they love.

Hell send your favorite writer a few asks and tell them how much their stories mean to you. If they have anon on you can do it that way. Seriously a nice note in our inboxed makes our day.

Want to reblog but have zero words? Use gifs, key smash, put your thoughts in the tags, say ‘omg I love this so much I’m speechless’ because that is worth something too. I love love love when I get long winded comments on my reblogs, but knowing that I made someone speechless feels just as good. I love the tag and gif comments and sometimes those small things say more than a long essay on what you thought about the fic.

There are a few things I can suggest to help out your fellow writers and even yourself.

1) Always reblog your own work.

I know it’s feels needy but Tumblr is worldwide and timezone reblogs are needed especially since notifications suck.

Thank your readers for reblogging, let them know you value them.

2) Make recommendation posts.

This is something I have done in the past and need to get back into but I’m horribly behind. @mfackenthal also does it, anyone can and the more of us doing this the better.

What did you read the past week that you can’t gush about enough? Make a post, link the Masterlist (I know it’s work but it helps so much) and tag the author. Not only are you telling all your followers hey I love X but you are telling them too.

See someone who just started writing and they are incredible but only have three notes? Reblog them, and then recommend them. Seriously it helps.

3) REBLOG WHAT YOU LOVE.

Sorry for the yelling but I can’t say this enough. I say it all the time. I’ve seen people complaining that their dash is dead and no one is writing anymore but the problem is that people are no longer reblogging. So many of the people I love I found from someone else reblogging.

I have a little over 400 blogs I follow and most of them I found from reblogs. That is how I found so many of the writers I love and follow. So do them a favor and reblog and help them get seen. Trust me you aren’t annoying and the author loves you gushing and loves that you are singing their praises.

I’m super behind but always down to be tagged by someone new. I will mention that I never got into AME, BSC, ATV, Save the Date so I would not be a good person to tag in those but I’m mostly open to any pairing, hell I’m the person who put Bastien with Olivia, I don’t mind crack pairs (within reason, I can’t do Connie or Regina, or Neville or Madeline).

I'm sorry if this is uncomfortable for you to answer and you don't have to if you don't want to. But what is your opinion on what's happening in Catalunya right now? From the perspective of someone who is Catalan and really knows, what's happening there?

You might have noticed this blog has gone on “fandom-hiatus” and the only thing I do is reblog once a day or post something related to this issue. So by scrolling a bit through my blog is very evident everything I need to say. 

So to just sum it up:

CATALONIA:

1. There is a percentage of population that wants in dependence. It’s not the majoritarian percentage but it’s very loud, passionate, insistent and pushy. They also got the support of the government (or are controlled by it).

2. That’s why there are two, opposite fractions of the government that want independence. The industrial elite, heirs of the right-wing party CiU and the Anti-system CUP + friends (ex: esquerra republicana). They found a common ground in it because LITERALLY NOTHING ELSE HAS BEEN DONE FOR YEARS but talk about the secessionist plans. 

3. 20 years ago CiU began an indoctrination process from schools, based off twisted, transgressed history and symbols. They were smart and when the recession arrived, used the cuts that they made, that all of Spain had to make, but where the other regions’ governments accepted their responsibility, the catalan governemnt diverged the attention from them and popularized the “Spain is stealing from us” slogan, and actively used the drive to independence to rise in power, by promising utopia wonders in an independent Catalonia. 

4. Fast forward a few years of increasing tension and we got a very, very aggressive secessionist movement, led by politicians that raised themselves to the status of Gods for their followers. Young people are extremely susceptible. Because of the aforementioned indoctrination and because the government asks to “disobey and rebel against the fascist Spain”. Young people love “disobeying” and it also became a social trend. 

5. We live in a moment and a region where anyone who disagrees with their opinion becomes an outcast. Some months ago students were beaten up till critical state in the Barcelona University just for being anti-independentist. Which is why most people that are against it don’t speak it out loud. You just can’t speak it out loud. You can’t voice your opinion, you can’t HAVE a different opinion. 

6. For the Catalan government and its followers the non-secessionist Catalans ARE NOT CATALANS. We are called traitors, fascist, we are insulted in every possible way, harassed, boycotted, silenced…

7. They lie about everything. They say that an independent Catalonia will be the new Andorra (meaning rich), when the most prominent Catalan companies already announced that they’ll leave in case of a unilateral-independence-declaration. (Sabadell bank left just hours ago for Alicante). Or that it will be part of the European community, when the EU told several times that it won’t happen. There will be a commercial blockage and no recognition. Because the EU is trying to ERASE BORDERS not to create more. 

8. The media is extremely manipulated and polarized. In the rest of the Spanish newspapers you can lean to the right or left, but you get the information more or less. Catalan media is ultra-radicalized and not only outright lies but omits whatever the information they want that could make their plans look unsure or negative. (The government also has no problem booting out members of their own party that express doubts, so that’s nothing, really.)

9. There is a governmental network called “Diplocat” (that is paid by our taxes, whether we agree to it or not) that has the ACN (catalan news agency) in its pocket. Among other things they also build “catalan embassies” in other countries, send representatives to talk in big universities about the “catalan freedom” (it’s not about fucking freedom! it never was!) and pay journalists and authors around the world to talk about Catalonia. 

10. The added problem to this is that the central government is a bunch of limp dicks that spend decades pretending this problem didn’t exist and would go away by its own. We had one party (Ciutadans ) rise to be the 4th political force in Spain, from Catalonia, mostly by proclaiming themselves anti-secessionist. They are the main opposition to the government here, but they are not strong enough to actually do anything, and the problem is that the parties that have “anti-secessionist” as a common factor don’t really agree on anything else, including how to face the problem. So they are just flopping around like “???” 

11. Now. About the 1st of October. 

What happened was that that an illegal “referendum” took place. It was a mess from the moment it was announced till this very second. 

You could argue that this is “democracy” (which is what they do) but it was all very well planned to precisely make it badly, rushed, makeshift, and illegal by both Spanish and European laws. 

But I guess you’ve seen the news. One side of the news. 

It was all very well orchestrated. I agree that sending police to confiscate the urns was not a good move. Not because it was “cruel” or “dictatorial” but because it was DUMB AS FUCK. They should just have let it happen and then ignore the results because the “referendum” was illegal in the first place. 

BUT EVERYBODY KNEW THERE WOULD BE POLICE. It was notified left and right. It was all a scene for the media and the internet. 

So you’ve seen these policemen on the news or on twitter. What you didn’t see were people waiting for them to arrive and start throwing stones, water and broken glass at them, spitting and yelling them in the face, pushing them and throwing themselves against them just to get a bruise to then post on the internet. 

You didn’t see that most of the reported cases were fake. Including a woman that went viral because “she had all her fingers broken” but then confessed on regional TV that she only had a capsulitis in one finger. Or the kid bleeding that was a photo from 2012 when the catalan government sent the regional police (mossos) against the 15M protestors. In fact, a LOT of photos were from that time. 

I’m not saying that there hadn’t been some police brutality. But it had certainly not been to the extent they made it look like. And honestly. I would have lasted way less than these agents before starting defending myself from these beasts. 

12. You certainly didn’t hear that THE URNS WERE ALREADY FULL BEFORE THE VOTING BEGAN (it’s on video, GDI!! stop denying it!). Or that the same person could vote several times. Or that CHILDREN could vote. 

(Yes, these people used their own children as human shields even though they knew before leaving home that there would be police, made them vote, and then they call the rest of us “inhuman” for not thinking like them.)

13. There was absolutely no census. And only those that wanted the “yes” went to vote. So the percentages are bullshit. 

Not to mention that out of the 5,5 million Catalans entitled to vote. According to them, 2.2 million voted with a 90% yes. (remember the urns already full and people voting several times? Well, including that!!) 

So… with 3.52 million Catalans against it, WHAT RIGHT DO THEY HAVE TO UNILATERALLY PROCLAIM INDEPENDENCE NOW???? 

(Which is what Puigdemont is threatening) 

14. The national police had been harassed since then, physically attacked, THEIR KIDS singled out and threatened in schools by teachers, classmates and neighbors. Some had to send they families away because they are in danger. (are these kids not catalan too?) 

15. Everything is a giant, scary mess. This is so way out of hand, there’s no actual plan, nothing is sure. 

16. If you are not secessionist, you are fucked. If you are - you are too, just don’t know it yet. 

And this is my summary of events for you. 

Of course I can say all of this here because of the anonymity of tumblr. If I did it in real life it would be a social suicide at best and land me in the hospital at worst :))

But I will be there, in Barcelona, for the anti-secessionist protest this Sunday. I hope your international media doesn’t forget to report that too.
