I honestly didn’t know TV Guide was still a thing, but they just posted this extra-cute image of Perdita Weeks and Jay Hernandez from the soon-to-debut 5th season of Magnum PI. Definitely one of the cutest couples and (so far, anyway) an example of how a show realized early on they had a ship sailing and,  after 4 seasons of teasing, they finally sealed the deal at the end of Season 4 last spring ... only for CBS to cancel the still-popular show.
NBC has “white-knighted” the show (that’s a pun for people who follow the remake, by the way) and they’re getting 2 more 10-episode seasons. The new season debuts in the US on Feb. 19.
This is just for new followers or who might have “missed the memo” - Perdita is a close friend of Jenna Coleman and they’ve often posted pics on their Instagrams of them going on trips together or taking in events. Right now Jenna is doing other stuff, but I keep hoping one of these days they get to bring her on for a guest appearance (the actor who played Robert Peel in Victoria has already been on, playing a baddie). And they might as well back a truck of money up to Tom Selleck’s door and get him to appear as Robin Masters (Magnum’s never-seen employer) because we all know it’s coming (though the fact Tom is still starring in the CBS series Blue Bloods might make it tricky to arrange).

Magnum PI and Castle are the gold standard for promoting a ship and actually letting it sail.

One of the many problems with TV in recent years is the abundance of shows that make their central characters Navy SEALS or other such special forces veterans, current or former, obviously expecting me to see a U.S. special forces goon as "wow, super-cool badass quasi-superhero" rather than "horrifying war criminal/government-sanctioned serial killer whose mere existence is an ugly symbol of America's ongoing legacy of imperialist brutality and unspeakable atrocities."

This is sad news because Prodigy, despite being made for younger audiences, was in my opinion the best of the nuTrek series, and now it appears it could be the shortest lived Trek series (previous record holder in terms of episode count was the 1970s animated Trek series).
Due to aspects of fandom now reaching the point where anything with a certain person's name as producer is to be rejected outright, many have chosen to ignore this series which is actually the closest to what people actually wanted from a "nuTrek" but, sadly, quality is no longer being taken into consideration. This is due to earlier nuTreks such as Discovery and the first season of Picard "poisoning the well."
What's odd here is that Prodigy aired on Nickelodeon as its primary network and wasn't a P+ exclusive, but Paramount/CBS still owns the thing. The concern I have is despite S2 having been completed (part of a disturbing trend of shows being cancelled after renewal), there are media reports that it will not only be immediately removed from streaming but it will be a "tax write off", which has some people worried it might be destroyed (google the cancelled streaming series "Final Space" (voice actors included David Tennant) to see what happened with that). Trekmovie's report is actually the first I've seen to indicte that S1 may still end up in circulation if another network/streamer can be found (and at least the first half of Season 1 is on DVD and Blu-ray too). The big problem is (I can't avoid the spoiler but I won't give detail) Season 1 had a cliffhanger ending because a 2nd season was, they thought, guaranteed, so if they can't find a home for Season 2 that story will remain incomplete.
Not a good week for shows I enjoy: although it gave it a reprieve (technically running an extra 2 seasons, or rather a 2-part 5th season), the revival of Magnum PI co-starring Perdita Weeks has been cancelled too, though it's still expected to air its final episodes in 2024 and is unlikely to disappear off the face of the earth.

Review: Playmobil takes on iconic 80s TV with Magnum, P.I.
If you haven’t been following Playmobil in the last few years, you’ve missed a lot. Namely, sets devoted to some of the 80s top properties. Dun-dun-dun-dundadun... Packaging - 76% Quality and design - 85% Extras - 80% 80% Cue action montage If you've been looking for a Magnum P.I. collectible of any kind, Playmobil's set should fit the bill. One of the few physical items dedicated to the 80s series, it includes all the major characters, the awesome Ferrari 308, and even a palm tree. There might be a few thing that could have made it even better, but this is some top notch stuff. User Rating: Be the first one !

Created by Don Bellisario, the NCIS universe – dubbed the BellisarioVerse – has been going strong since NCIS spun out of the '90s drama, JAG. The shared continuity of the universe has grown since then, with numerous spin-offs as well as sharing a world with other police procedural shows. The shows span a wide universe and have had several great crossovers with each other, establishing their shared continuity.
As one of the most successful cop shows in history, NCIS has claimed the status of America's favorite TV series for multiple years. Considering its great characters, interesting crimes and dynamic locations, this is no surprise. However, with several shows tied in, fans can have a tough time choosing favorites.
8: NCIS: Hawaii
NCIS: Hawaii is a decent show but suffers from being entirely redundant when considering the existence of Hawaii Five-0. Although it does continue the franchise's presence on the beautiful tropical islands, it missed an opportunity in following the shows before and finding a new location.
The series is standard fare for cop shows, but just lacks the breakout nature of the other spin-offs, with little that makes it unique. It has some good characters and a great setting, but NCIS: Hawaii is undeniably the least interesting corner of Bellisario's universe.
7: NCIS: New Orleans
Starring Quantum Leap actor Scott Bakula, NCIS: New Orleans took the popular franchise to the Deep South and gave it a new set of characters. The dynamic between the characters most closely mirrors the main NCIS' Gibbs, albeit a tad more lighthearted.
NCIS: New Orleans has a solid cast and some interesting cases, as well as a setting with a lot of character in New Orleans. The series often feels more graphic than NCIS, and may appeal to an older age demographic, but is still very much worth the watch.
6: Magnum P.I.
Thanks to the fact that the so-called "Lenkov-verse" and NCIS universe have been established as sharing a continuity, Magnum P.I. is among the series. The Hawaii-based private detective was recast with Jay Hernandez in the leading role as Thomas Magnum.
Magnum P.I. has been a worthy successor to the Tom Selleck classic, and the tropical setting it shares with Hawaii Five-0 has made for a good crossover story too. Where most of the NCIS continuity is focused around cops, Magnum P.I.'s private detective offers fans something different.
5: MacGyver
Accompanied by Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver's reboot is among the three revived shows within the Lenkov-verse and therefore shares the world of NCIS' continuity. With Lucas Till in the eponymous role, it was a great, fast-paced adventure series.
MacGyver has more than lived up to the classic '80s action show, and stands out best for its adventurous nature, the titular hero going to a number of interesting locations. The series ran from 2016 to 2021 and included stories that pitted the hero against cartels, spies, and everything in between.
4: NCIS: Los Angeles
NCIS: Los Angeles is easily the fastest-paced of the NCIS-specific shows, with a greater emphasis on espionage and terrorist-based cases. It also boasts one of the universe's more impressive casts, with LL Cool J, Chris O'Donnell, and Linda Hunt, all of whom had great on-screen charisma.
NCIS: Los Angeles has been a good combination of thriller and crime, which made great use of its LA backdrop. The series was full of twists and turns, and often surpassed its predecessor in pacing and action. The series ran from 2009-2023, an impressive stretch for a spin-off series.
3: JAG
While NCIS may be the best known of the franchise, it actually all started with JAG. The 1990s courtroom drama was Top Gun meets A Few Good Men and had plenty of naval aviation episodes, spy thriller stories, and political intrigue.
RELATED:9 Ways That Courtroom Dramas Always Get The Legal System Wrong
JAG followed the Judge Advocate General, the legal wing of the US military. Focusing on Harman Rabb and Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie, it was a combination of military, investigations, and legal drama. JAG was also the series where NCIS started, with a two-parter that worked as NCIS' backdoor pilot episode.
2: Hawaii Five-0
The reboot of the original series, Hawaii Five-0 was revived as part of the NCIS universe. The show's existence in the Bellisario universe was solidified by an excellent crossover episode with NCIS: Los Angeles. Since then, it has been one of the best action/crime shows on TV.
One of Hawaii Five-0's biggest strengths is its embrace of the action franchise. Where NCIS takes more time to focus on the investigation side of the story, the Five-0 often find themselves in tense stand-offs, car chases, and gunfights. It may be a departure from NCIS, but it helps the show stand out.
1: NCIS
Given the series' enduring popularity and historic time on air, NCIS is the undisputed king of its franchise. One of the most successful spin-off series in history, NCIS has lasted twenty years, a benchmark few police procedural shows reach. This was thanks to its interesting stories and excellent cast.
The series has received well-earned praise for everything, ranging from its longevity, likable cast of characters, and interesting premise. The show owes much of its success to its charismatic cast, such as Mark Harmon's Gibbs, Michael Weatherly's DiNozzo, and Rocky Carroll's Leon Vance.
