Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, William Shatner guest stars in "The Glass Eye," episode 1 of the third season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (original air date October 6. 1957). The main story, which is pretty thin, takes place in flashback: A lonely Edwardian spinster falls in love with a music hall ventriloquist, only to discover that the object of her affection is actually the dummy, while the real ventriloquist is a little person in a mask who plays the dummy in the act. Shatner appears in the framing segments as her nephew, who discovers the story after her death (sometime in the late 1920s or early 1930s, by the look of the costumes). He's pretty stiff in these segments, but he also narrates the flashback and does a good job of that.

I love shows that are just a bunch of isolated fucked up instances like "hey wouldn't it be insane if this happened? Literally bonkers bro have another one" and I keep ordering more and it's great! sometimes its like clever social commentary and sometimes it's just batshit crazy or vaguely threatening and eerie. I'm a big fan.

You know I absolutely love Slappy's little cooking show segment in the episode 'Is There a Director in the House?' It's all I ever wanted from his character <3 it was absolutely perfect and super silly <33
I especially love how it's modeled like an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents because Peter Lorre actually guest starred in an episode in 1961 titled Man From The South. You can actually watch it here.
Though Slappy wasn't exactly chopping off people's fingers like Lorre's character was (though he definitely should have, preferably Plankton's) it was a super neat reference. 10/10 would eat his cursed spider egg drop soup <3
