favourite stupid relationship dynamic: idiots who would immediately protect and defend the other but never themself
#still thinking about how lxl just takes whatever life throws at them without fighting back (esp in the lxl movie)#so it was up to the other (mainly yujiro) to do the protecting (of aizo) since he was clearly not going to do anything about it#poor yujiro never fought back against the longleg/shortleg until aizo was brought up… no sense of self-preservation with that one#‘you can mess with me but not my bf!!!!!’ kind of energy#ig aizo did kind of defend yujiro in the [redacted] anime ep 4 nonsense and pointless scandal scene but that’s about it…#give aizo more chances to play the hero for his cute bf!!!!! the princess carry wasn’t enough!!!!#though. ngl it’s kinda funny how aizo’s always portrayed as the husband and yujiro the wife in their r/s (see: meoto)#but yujiro is always the one fighting for aizo’s honour. l&k novel (i think; still havent read it). lxl movie. chizu hallway scene (kind of)#and even in honeypre he got aizo the werewolf costume (instead of the pumpkin). he was the one who gave aizo a gift on white day (like a bf)#he even turned aizo into a worried wife when he (the bumbling husband) wandered out till late in kyoto to look for a *phone strap*#hm. well. im not sure what the point im trying to make is other than the fact that lxl are idiots for each other ig#they may be really really stupid but they love(?) and support each other (in a sense)… two menaces in a pod.#they should just get married (again)#though speaking of lxl marriage remember when that music magazine spread misinfo about how meoto was set in the sengoku era#and everyone believed it? the mv sure shocked everyone in more ways than one lmaooooooo#lxl twt was on fire that day. ‘horns??? a fantasy setting????? what happened to the sengoku era?????’ it was so funny you h a d to be there#but. hm. we’ve had quite a lxl content drought… disregarding the [redacted] mv they havent been seen in 4 months#throwing out a guess that theyll get a new song for a winter comiket cd or sth. idk#sure hope that lxl do not get a new song or mv before kimikawaii release though bc that’d be unfairrrrrrrrr

the strokes for crossbeat, may 2011
#my scans#bands#the strokes#fab moretti#nick valensi#nikolai fraiture#julian casablancas#albert hammond jr#angles era#crossbeat#it appears that unlike rockin'on crossbeat actually accounts for not being able to see the innermost sides of the page when the magazine is#perfect bound#which is great for the intended audience but not for us whores on the internet#alas#not really anything particularly new in this interview but it always kind of surprises me when i see any members but esp nick talk abt how#fun the angles recording process was bc the perspective that gets passed ard the most is his pitchfork quote saying it was fucking awful#mixed feelings i suppose..or maybe it was fun but only as a one time thing#he says they recorded it the second time round in the woods and being in the middle of nowhere w just the five of them made them closer 😞❤️#so sweet..and also muddles the narrative of the recording process even more LMAO

re:hbomberguy, on the topic of citing sources, i want to say:
it is insane how many people on here don't even click the sources op links on their own post to learn more and just hit reblog saying "oh my i didn't know about this thank you for teaching me!". like guys CLICK THE LINK!! CHECK THE NOTES!!! CHECK THE SOURCE!.... i swear half the time the link is dead or takes you to a nonsense page (i see this a lot with art specifically???? and excerpts from magazines??) and some times the linked source disproves a claim the very post that linked it made and people just. don't bother to check, no one bothers to even reblog saying "hey that link is dead! here's a new, working link!" or "hey that link doesn't work, can you link the source again?" and when it comes to misinformation people just share without checking or looking at the notes where numerous people will (in the best case scenario) already be pointing out the misinformation
"OH BUT I CAN'T CHECK EVERYTHING I SEE ON THE INTERNET" there is a surefire way to prevent spreading this kind of stuff even if you don't have the time to fact check immediately. just accept it's fine to save a post for later if you can't look deeper into it right now!!!!! literally just reblog it in private or save the post as a draft so you can come back to it later and check. it won't kill you and in fact it will actually make your life a lot better lol
#hbomberguy#misinformation#plagiarism#adding those for reach honestly because im kinda pissed rn#heres some more on citing sources for this week! sometimes people cite sources and THEY DON'T EXIST. it is REALLY frustrating#people do this to PRETEND they linked to the original artist a lot here on tumblr when theyre actually linking 1- nothing or 2- google imgs#it drives me INSANE#and sometimes they will add “source: xyz magazine” and then you go look for it and there is no available source. its just a loop of-#one person quoting another on where the source came from and none of them actually checked the source#ALSO sometimes journalists will do this kind of crazy bullshit where they quote something from wikipedia thinking the wiki source is real-#and it turns out to not align with the statement in the wiki and so the journalist claims that without checking or sourcing and then#other news sources will quote the journalist on that cyclically up until the point where the journalist that used wikipedia as a source-#becomes a source for wikipedia#'confirming' the statement that actually came from there in the first place#there is a name for this phenomenom but i cant remember it if i find it i'll reblog with an addition#sorry if you saw this before i deleted it to word it better

I've thought about it and I don't like the Bustle deleterious effects of therapyspeak in friendships article
#significantly for personal and stupid reasons but ironically i think it's committing a little therapyspeak#by kind of making up a new condition to pathologize instead of just saying: some people sometimes act like selfish assholes#or are going through a lot and are bad at communicating (some overlap with prev category)#i think there are many many critiques to be made of therapy that are not ''some boundaries... are kind of stupid!''#okay compare contrast with ''love bombing gaslighting and the problem with pathologizing dating talk'' (dazed magazine 2022)#which i find less inane due to A) sympathy for motivations B) acknowledgement that none of us make it out alive

#Aight I'm no marketing strategist but like. It doesn't take a genius to see on my dash everyone going#“If there's not going to be new bsd content soon I'm just gonna drop it”#I really don't get why they went for this route. Oh well. *Goes make the bsd reread announcement post I've been procrastinating on making*#random rambles#Tbh I too have found myself a little tired with bsd but also.#Idk I like the fandom.#Even if I'm not as excited about it as I used to be right now it's still something that makes me happy to interact with every day.#I like the format. To an extent I also like not getting new content because it gives myself the illusion-#I will be able to focus on studying more (lol)#Or at least dedicate myself to other projects I've been wanting to complete#And one of the main appeals of bsd to me stays how the content is widely accessible.#Like I love p/p and I definitelly love it a thosuand times more than I do b/sd. I truly love that franchise.#But besides from watching the anime it's impossible to get your hands on the extra content (manga‚ novels‚ dramas‚ stage plays‚ fanbooks)#Which left me - archivist obsessed - just frustrated#With bsd aside from very niche things (I love you pricey fanbooks... )#Most of the main content is within reach. Man I was able to compile a magazines archive. I could have never done it with p/p#So yeah it's just. A space that fits my very specific kind of autism#Why am I even discussing this again?

I'm starting to think the reason I'm not as good of a writer as I want to be is because I like writing more than I like reading.
#which isnt to say i dont like to read#but i find it so difficult to get interested in new fiction#why would i bother reading stories other people wrote when i could just write mine?#i don't have this issue reading nonfiction ive been so into nonfiction#and i feel like THAT has helped me write better just by teaching me about more things so i can make worlds make more sense#but one time i told somebody i was writing a story that's kind of a zombie apocalypse but for plants and they said#'oh that's exactly like this other book' (i forget the name) 'you should read that one!'#and it made me unreasonably angry#i don't care abt someone else's story with a vaguely similar concept. i care abt mine.#and i know this makes me seem like an asshole and i probably am for this specific thing#but i read every book i could get my hands on as a child#and then as soon as i was able to write my own stories that stopped being the case#like all that reading was just training me to do what i can do now#and i think if i could just get over my disinterest in other ppl's fiction books and start practicing deconstructing what makes a good stor#i would start improving my writing more#and short stories! fuck. i hate reading other ppl's short stories unless they're written by friends#but as im starting to submit my short stories to publishing magazines n stuff#im realizing i'll have a better chance of getting published if i read the other stuff those mags have posted before#and write what they want to have submitted. but then it's not necessarily what *i* want to write. u know?#i don't know how to fix this fundamental problem of me preferring writing over reading#(and this applies to fanfic too btw. i hardly ever seek out fic to read unless a friend sends it to me. and often i like it when they do!#but not as much as i like writing or reading my own writing.)#just why would i READ when i could be WRITING and writing is so much more FUN

Hello! Im not too active in ask boxes so im a little nervous sending this, but i wanted to reach out!
I read your firewatch au fic about a month ago and I’ve gotta say, genuinely, it is STILL dancing around my mind. It was beautifully written and left me with such an intense feeling- I don’t even know what that feeling is, but it’s intense!
I read your authors notes at the end of every chapter and the amount of research you did to make sure this fic was written accurately is amazing and very commendable. Your notes also led me to discovering “out alive by backpacker” and it’s quickly become one of my favourite podcasts!!
Ironically, this fic really sparked an interest in me for hiking and I’ve started going for longer walks with my friend! It’s been a really great way to connect with nature and develop a closer “bond” with the planet. (I say ironically since both the fic and the podcast tell these terrifying stories of survival and how brutal nature can be.)
Since I can’t seem to stop thinking about your fic, i just started re-reading it! I want to make fanart of this story, so I plan to take at least one scene from each chapter to illustrate. My energy isn’t reliable these days so I’m not sure how many I’ll actually be able to do, but I’d really like to show my appreciation!
TLDR: this is the most impactful fic I think I’ve ever read and I’m really glad I did!
Have a wonderful day!
- Pocket
AAAAAAAA this is such a wonderful ask to receive!!!!! Thank you! I really feel like I've accomplished something how you're not even the first person to tell me they've started going outside and walking/hiking more often. That's a really beautiful thing to see. I love what you've gotten out of it—the closer bond with the planet—because that's equally what I wanted to share in the story, along with all the survival aspects. I loved the research and I loved the setting and I loved to share it with everyone.
I would be SO excited to see the art you make for the story, however many you end up making (and if it's none, that's fine too!) I love seeing how people interpret things in the story. I gave y'all the words, but it's always up to YOU (the reader) in the end to picture it :D
thank you <33333
#i hope i didnt make u too nervous by waiting a few days to answer this sorry 😭😭#had kind of a weird week. not an actually busy one or particularly eventful like the other weeks this month! just meh#also join me in trying to manifest that backpacker magazine saves out alive with a new host#i got so many people into a podcast that ENDED as soon as I recommended it (cries)#hc_firewatch_au#quara asks

ghggggghgghggh just finished reading the rest of Dungeon Meshi last night. Brain is soup with these silly little guys.
#I started off from where the anime left off so far.#So I read 60 chapters over the course of two days. for reference that's like seven volumes of this 13 ish volume manga#technically?? bc it's like volume 13 just came out#but the site I read it on still used the magazine fan-scanlation for the last 10 ish chapters so it was kind of a blur for me#And I think volume 14 is a thing that's happening???#Idk but danm. To live really is to consume huh.#dungeon meshi#but yippee new brain rot wahoo!

2023 reads // twitter thread
The Battle Drum
sequel to The Final Strife, a queer Ghanian/Arabian high fantasy world where people are divided by blood colour
the nightly hurricanes are getting more deadly, and Sylah travels to unknown lands to discover the truth and find help
meanwhile Anoor is trying to manage her new political position while framed for a murder she didn’t commit
#The Battle Drum#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#okay I do feel similarly about this as I did the first one...really love a lot of what’s going on I just feel like some of the structure/plo#plot focus could b better#like the first one fell back on the generic competition framework which I felt was meh....this one does that a bit with murder mystery#it had a cool in-universe summary of book 1#something about the politics/past/worldbuiling feels…I wanted some more connection or complexity or something?#or maybe i just expect more from adult fantasy#anoor's naivety got a little frustrating at time#like the murderer was pretty obvious#I love: cool new cities! glass city! MUSHROOM CITY#when sylah sees a camel and describes it in the most 'weird unknown fantasy creature' kind of way#I still find zines weirdly anachronistic.......when magazines don't exist in the world...#but I can give that a pass I guess#there's also an aroace side character (has some POV) who I have......mixed feelings about?#an interesting complex character but also. is SA'd for years before she finally decides t kill her husband#then becomes an antagonistic cult leader#I don't think that's INHERENTLY a bad thing; but idk; why was that a choice? maybe she'll be redeemed (for lack of a better word) next book#anyway all of these critiques are very much like. this has the potential to be in my favourite kind of books ever and doesn't QUITE reach my#expectations..........so like it is very good. I just ahhhhh want slightly more/different things#oh also jond and kitten was good. I still hate him for being the perpertrator of my Least Favourite Trope but. he has a baby kitten....#wait i should also mention the plot twist of who the person is is pretty good#didn't figure that one out#but going back through highlight notes i was like oh...there was clues...
