Camp Crystal Lake: Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Requested by @yellowjacketsbuzzbuzz
Joel Miller x f!reader (romance/horror)
Setting: Camp Crystal Lake
The reader is taking on the position of a camp counselor at the infamous Camp Crystal Lake. While she begins to enjoy her summer, even crushing on the camp director Joel, a killer lurks in the woods unbeknownst to anyone.
Every town in North America has a ghost story. Some are well kept secrets, and others are so notorious that the sins of those tales have spread far and wide, to every dark corner of the earth. Crystal Lake was a sterling example of such a place. It had a typical sounding name, really, for a fresh body of water in the middle of the New England woods. But the stories surrounding the area were anything but typical.
As a young child, I remember hearing his name being said on the playgrounds at school. Jason. It didn’t take me long to insert myself into conversations in an attempt to hear the details of whatever version of the story the older kids were spreading. Back then it didn’t matter if they were fact or fiction. I stayed up late, wide eyed staring at every dark corner of my bedroom after hearing tales of Jason Voorhees. Now, at 22 years old and about to enter the summer as a counselor at Camp Crystal Lake, those distant, childish memories made me grin; though when my rusty, Jeep Wrangler bounced down the uneven road past the wooden Camp Crystal Lake sign, the hairs rose just a bit on the back of my neck.
“I thought you outgrew superstition,” I said quietly to myself as a song ended on my playlist, leaving me in a few extra seconds of silence to take in the wooded surroundings.
Jason Voorhees. The name still creeped everyone out. Yes, there had been a tragedy that happened decades earlier. Jason Voorhees was real; but after several attacks on counselors and residents alike, a boy named Tommy Jarvis managed to put Jason to rest permanently.
I shuddered and reminded myself that that was decades ago. I wasn’t even alive when it all happened. And this new camp wasn’t anywhere near the original location of the attacks on that Friday the 13th back in the 80’s.
I saw a pale yellow VW Bug parked up ahead next to a blue Ford pickup truck. On the opposite side of the truck was a Bronco with about as much rust as my Jeep. I began to wonder what my coworkers would be like. Would they be my age? Younger? Older? Local? I was about to find out.
I parked in the clearing beside the VW and stared out at the lake a few hundred yards away. There was a small beach with a towering, white lifeguard stand in the center and a wooden raft floating too not far from the patch of sand. If nothing else, it would be a great summer gig with a view. The campers wouldn’t be here for several weeks and I knew getting the place ready would call for some physical labor. I never minded hands-on work, and I was sure it would give us all time to bond.
When I exited the vehicle, a breeze hit me from the water and I shuddered, despite the temperatures nearing eighty degrees on the late June afternoon. My eyes scanned the trees on all sides and I suddenly wondered where everyone was. I let farfetched ‘what-ifs’ filter through my mind for a second before smirking to myself.
Grow up, I scolded myself lightheartedly. The imaginative part of me still enjoyed the folklore, no matter how juvenile it felt.
I popped open the back of the Jeep and reached in to grab my suitcase, an oversized gym bag and a backpack that housed the majority of my clothes. I had a few stray boxes with makeup and hair products, among other toiletries, though I decided I’d come back for them later.
Again, I took in my surroundings. For some reason I half-expected to see a group of young people out-and-about in the immediate area upon arrival. The silence was beginning to hit my psyche harder than I’d like to admit, and so I stared up at an oversized cabin with wooden paneling and headed in that direction.
A hammock swung empty on a giant front porch that was littered with chairs and small tables in between. Above them hung metal lighting fixtures, some of which were swinging in the summer breeze.
And then I heard a sound I could only compare to clicking. It was like a clock, almost. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
I set my suitcase down near the bottom step and shrugged the gym bag off my shoulder so it rested beside it, leaving my backpack on. And then I followed the sound.
Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
What is that?
I swallowed hard as the noise grew louder. It stopped for a second and then there was a louder noise. A faint bang. And then a pause. Another bang.
What the hell is that?
I rounded the side of the two-story cabin and peeked my head around to see if I could get a glimpse of whatever, or whoever, was responsible for the sound. Visions of Jason Voorhees and his menacing hockey mask left my mind immediately when the truth revealed itself.
A muscular man in a flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled up past his elbows swung an ax, connecting with a giant log of wood. It split into two, sending little shards flying into the air. He wiped his forehead with his arm and then reached for another.
I wasn’t sure if I should tiptoe back to the front porch or interrupt him, but my mind was made up by default when he slowly turned in my direction. When he smiled beneath a mustache, I blushed and glanced at the open area of his chest where a few buttons were undone.
“Hello.” He gave a wave and wiped sweat off his forehead again before removing a pair of work gloves.
I raised my hand and swallowed hard. “Hi.”
The man approached and extended an arm in my direction. I stared down at his hand for a second before joining mine to his in a handshake. Our eyes met and I felt my eyebrows raise unwillingly.
“I’m Joel Miller,” he introduced himself, slightly out of breath. “I did the phone interview with you back in March and a second one in April. (Y/N), right?”
“Yeah.” I nodded and cleared my throat with a smile.
“I’m the camp director,” he informed me with a nod.
“Nice to meet you.” My hand was still in his and finally they parted.
Joel nodded in agreement. “I’m just finishing up here. I think we have one more person to arrive today before the rest come in the middle of the week. You can get yourself settled in whatever room is still available and I’ll be in in a few minutes.”
“Okay.” I nodded, “Thank you.”
“Thank you.”
When he smiled again I might as well have turned to stone. Who knew my boss for the summer would be such a.. hunk.
Well shit. It’s thirty seconds into the summer and I’m already crushing on my boss. I added, what a lovely predicament.

What Happened to the VW Bus? Is It Coming Back?
Tumblr media
Actually, nothing happened to the VW bus. It just became less popular, temporarily, in the United States. And yes, it is coming back in a big way!
After the 1970s, the U.S. shut down VW bus manufacturing since the popular van was no longer was able to meet new safety and emissions standards. Production continued in Brazil, however, until 2014, when Brazil enacted new standards that the current model of the bus couldn’t meet. When that happened, the German production factory shut down its production after 63 years – the longest running time of any vehicle ever.
Now, many people are excited to learn the Volkswagen Bus is coming back next year, in 2024 – as the ID. Buzz (yes, that is its name!). It’s electric, eclectic and brings back a hint of the hippie movement psychedelic nostalgia with its neon colors: tangerine, lime, grape and more. Volkswagen is hoping to once again earn the respect and admiration of a new generation of car buyers.
One reason the VW bus became obsolete was its failing safety measures. No matter what you choose to drive, being safely prepared for the road by purchasing affordable car insurance will ensure your favorite vehicle never goes out of style.
The Peculiar History of the VW Bus
Although many people in the U.S. think of the iconic Volkswagen bus as the original hippie van from the 1960s, it has a different association in Europe, where it was born in Germany in the 1940s. Colloquially called the VW Bus in America and the VW Camper in the UK, the Volkswagen bus was modeled after the German Plattenwagen, a vehicle originally made to carry car parts. Dutch businessman, race car driver, winemaker and Olympian Ben Pon, always looking for something new and already selling the hugely popular VW Beetle in the United States, saw the Plattenwagen during a tour of the Volkswagen plant in West Germany one day and the lightbulb went off.
The Beetle paved the way for what was known then as the VW Transporter, later called the Volkswagen Microbus and then, in later years, the Bus. In the 1950s when the Transporter hit the market, buyers could choose from 8 different models, all designed to answer a specific need. Today, there are more than 15 variations of the Transporter (or T models) on the market.
For example, the Kombi VW bus featured removable rear seats so consumers could use the van to carry cargo (and people). A variety of side windows options also made an appearance during these days, with a low-end version offering 11-15 windows spaced around the van and high-end versions offering 23-window VW buses. Early models carried a hard to clean split front windshield, earning it one of many nicknames, “the Splitty.” Volkswagen did away with this unpopular feature, creating a solid front windshield.
In Europe, families and friends used the popular bus for camping trips, as did Americans, who also plastered peace signs all over it and drove it to see Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Europeans turned it into an ambulance, and everyone used its large interior for deliveries and carting stuff around.
In the 1960s, things began to turn around in the U.S. market when people became more concerned with vehicle safety and emissions – and something known as the chicken tax.
Chicken Tax
The Chicken War started when American farmers adopted poultry factory farming practices in the 1950s. Soon, chicken was being exported to Europe in mind-boggling numbers – which didn’t sit well with German farmers. Feathers flew and, as a result, high tariffs were implemented on imported chicken in Europe.
In America, the United Auto Workers were threatening a strike over the importing of the popular Volkswagen Type 2 pickup truck.
In response to both of the above, President Johnson imposed a 25% tax on imported light trucks. Called the Chicken Tax, it’s still in effect today. The effect on the Volkswagen is, in order to avoid the Chicken Tax, the vehicle cannot be sold as a truck or any kind of commercial vehicle.
Tumblr media
Today’s Volkswagen Bus
Today, three different iterations of the VW bus are on the production line at a plant in Hanover, Germany. The model year T6 continues to be built with a van platform but is ceasing production with the new ID. Buzz. This is its last year. The T7 is a medium-sized Transporter with a large cargo area marketed as a plug-in hybrid. And the newest member of this family of unconventional members is the Buzz, due in the U.S. in 2024.
In Europe, the electric Buzz rolled into the market in 2022 and found new categories to master, including as a police car, a school bus, a postal truck and much more. But in America, the Buzz will never climb to the exalted ranks of a service vehicle. The chicken tax took care of that. It will always be a passenger van on these shores.
The Buzz About the Buzz
Let’s talk specifics about this new van that’s supposed to bring us all back to the days of concerts, tie-dye and peace signs. Of course, it is electric. But what other changes will we see?
Appearance: Some people think the new Buzz looks similar to the old Scooby-Doo van. Others think it looks like what might happen if a modern minivan had a baby with a sleek sports car. It certainly no longer has the goofy smile of the old VW Bus. Some people say it looks like an angry cousin.
Mechanics: It’s no longer necessary to carry around the “How to Fix Your Volkswagen for the Complete Idiot” and 3 wrenches. The downside is that a paper clip and a rubber band won’t fix the rear engine until you can get it to a shop. And, gasp, it comes in automatic transmission, too. Staying on top of maintenance will get you further.
Noise and Driving: If you’ve ever driven or ridden in an older VW Microbus, you already know how noisy it was, with bone-jarring shakes and rattles. It may – or may not – make it up that steep hill in the mountains of Colorado. Perhaps try reverse to make it up? Today’s version will have up to 201 horsepower (the original had an HP of two digits). It’s supposed to be much easier to maneuver. You’ve got to wonder if they took out all the fun!
Smart Car: You probably won’t consider the new Buzz as you did its distant little brother or sister. In the 60s, the bus was considered a valuable and friendly member of the family. The Buzz is more like the rather stern computer Hal in “2001: A Space Odyssey” (except for the part where Hal goes crazy and murders the crew). That won’t happen with Buzz, but it may stop you from switching lanes without signaling or flashing colors at you if there’s an obstruction in the road.
Overall, VW is banking on the new trend for electrical vehicles to help it become the world player it once was with the Beetle and the original VW bus in decades past. And although it may cost quite a bit more than the original ($1,800 vs $40,000), there are still fans clamoring to get a piece of yesterday for today.

Meet Betsy the camper van. A photo booth with a difference. The original photo booths on the party scene were basically boxes. Much like the old Woolworths or Post Office booths where you would go for a passport photo. Indeed some of the first models used inkjet printers, so not only were they slow. but you would have to wait for the ink to dry. As things progressed they started to use dye sublimation printers. These used rolls of paper matched to rolls of ink, the paper would be run through the print mechanism four times. Cyan, Magenta and blue would be overlaid on the paper to form the image, then a clear laminate film sealed over the top. The prints were not only quick, but instantly dry and water proof. The booths themselves though tended not to change much, still being basically boxes. Then quirky booths began to appear. Booths in London taxi cabs, classic mini's, a telephone booth, even a Del Boy Trotter van had a booth in. Mini Camper Booth We had booths installed in all of the above. We were always on the lookout for something different we could stick a booth in. Looking around different vehicles we came across a mini camper van. It looked like a VW camper that had been shrunk. So we investigated. It turned out to actually be a Subaru Sambar. It was one of a special range of vehicles sold in Japan called Kei cars. These had to be no more than 3.4 metres in length with an engine no bigger than 660cc. Our particular model was actually a high spec version. It had the 660cc supercharged engine, along with four wheel drive and an interior that allowed the front seats to swivel around and face the rear seats. Along with two sunroofs. The car in its basic guise looked nothing like a camper. However the Japanese seem to have an obsession with VW campers. This led to numerous firms converting them with fibreglass panels to look like the VW T2 campers. The main change is the addition of a large VW front grill, along with side panels and stainless steel bumpers. A close look will rapidly reveal it isn't a genuine VW, but it is surprising how often people will ask if we had a VW specially shortened. camper crazy photo booth hire Ours was a blue and white colour when it arrived. We had it resprayed pearl white and candy apple red. Along with a new leather interior in red and white and an internal respray of all the panels. Camper Interior For festival themed jobs we added a roof mounted surf board to dispense the prints, a music system playing Beach Boys songs and tiki themed dress up accessories. Chauvet Mini Camper Booth-300x169-1 Betsy The Camper is definitely a perfect match for festival themed weddings and events. Read the full article

Our son and daughter accomplished something Trump we are putting hits on you and we're going to see you die and yeah this copycat said before after you it was covered they're not really as proficient but they hit about a 30% to 15% every time you've been dying anyways and your people who are not your race would fill in instead it's going to be us taking the majority of stuff
-okay then and we have more news the warlock we're attacking the sudo empire and they were going up there over and over to the Parker systems in Northern New England and Pennsylvania and Virginia and parts of the Carolinas with big armies and the pseudo empire said why do we even let you go up there and started cutting them off and they slaughtered probably half their Force and doing it and stop them from attacking the brokers they put a notice out for all this to do that get the information and to cut them off. It seems amazing that someone would do that and really it's just common sense but okay I believe they have their fleets out of the way for the most part this is really a 10 billion left of the warlock but that includes minority warlock pretty soon Matt morlock will have none and minority warlocks are on your own you did nothing but try and hurt us. There's more news but this is really big news
-there's other things happening and it's pretty juicy and there's pretty big. They're fighting over this car the VW golf and their son says if I get the car he's going to go play around the golf with one arm doesn't know how to play and it's a weird name. And he's making a joke to Preston and he said he's going to hit it with one arm and say sorry before it lands and hits Windows every time and he's got a weird swing and always does something strange no matter what he does it's true too he can't stand the game. So is joking with me kind of blown in push it in kick It in and finally just stamps it into the grass.
-also we have more people tuning in because it's starting to become a nightmare everywhere because of these idiots fighting themselves. And he says Michael too would you like to expound on that and he says no and leave me alone Mike I said it once and I'll say it again well we have a lot of problems because of this invite it's disgusting we have to stop and we don't know where to begin or how to do it we don't really want to cuz they're so God didn't annoyed they're so damned annoying I'm so hash out of the planetoids and it says no because it's four of them and that sucks Michael too says. There's a lot of people who want to know what's going on and they need to they have people that are moving and they need to know why and what's happening and they look at and it's disgusting. So far evacuated out of Florida is about 6.5% and it's mostly Macklemore lock and the number that's 30%. No it was 35% and they're most of it they're down to 29% 0.5% is the rest and Florida had like 55% more luck. And yes now it's 49% roughly most of these are Macklemore. Oddly enough.
-today we have more evacuating from Florida and it is more mac morlock. It is roughly going to be about 3% and the wave was pretty big over the weekend and it's tapering down but it will increase rapidly shortly as the tunnels empty anticipation of a fight begins people are seeking Small arms and they're going to use them on each other. And 3% will bring us down to roughly 26% Mac morlock it's mostly them and it's true that it's lower level people but they went out and that's a large number thus far it's almost 10% and they're using campers and trucks and everything a lot of campers but more campers are being purchased right now they were bringing in about 10 million campers a day but they hit Monday and it went up to 20 million and yesterday was up to about 30 million and that's a lot it is a lot of people and it's going to continue and it's going to be hot and heavy and tons of people are going to be getting evacuating we think by the end of the day if they got to the end of the tunnels and when they clear the silt it just keeps repacking at the end of it no just a lot of it and it's filtering out and they pulled more sandal last night it's coming out pretty quick in about an hour it'll be clear and then pull the next batch of ships and they'll try to fuel them all cuz they can come out with radar and Dan was trying to explain it when it's clear just fuel them all and they said no we can't see so yes if you start out and you are moving out can you see you like if you go all at once and I said we don't know he said I do you don't have to you can use radar instead it doesn't always work and it's true and he said okay then that's the argument and I said fuel them all anyways they need to remove the ones you can and you wait 20 minutes instead of 3 hours and it said oh yeah and you can just sit there the second is clear for you and so they said this if you really had to we could leave and they went ahead and started fueling them all late early this morning actually and they're going to run it that way mostly it's like a still about 3/4 of a mile and that's not much and it's clear enough that they filled up and it didn't take long one hour and it's true it's clearing out right now we think they'll be able to get a half mile out if they all left at the same time they'd be able to do it but they don't want to risk it so they're doing it that way usually it can set up and it takes an hour and everything will be three groups so by noon and boy is it slow last night it is really slow but at noon they're going to unplug it and that's what Trump went is fighting over these ships he's a good guy cuz he messed with social security and tried to blame people
-no we're going after that guy and pretty heavy but other people are too finally and he's got a tail now and they're following him everywhere and he's not going to make it we think it might even be before next month cuz he keeps saying it's going to cut it off and people are tired of hearing it her son says he cannot join the golden armor he's not worthy it doesn't have the planetoids and doesn't have the manpower and it should put on the phoam one and light himself on fire.

Evangeline Lucero (OC) information dump
Pronouns: He/they
Cabin: 14 - Iris
However stayed with the Apollo cabin for a while
Powers: light travel & control over the mist
They’re an all year round camper, and even after most older demigods started going to New Rome University, he stayed on as an assistant at camp
Arrived at camp during the Sea of Monsters, aged 16, with a Satyr and a 3 much younger demigods that they’d found on their way. They arrived in a VW van, the sort that have been done up to be lived in, and for the first summer that’s where he slept. Evan was claimed before coming to camp, but with no Iris cabin built yet and not wanting to spend summer in the cramped Hermes cabin, they slept in the van. When winter rolled around though, they had to stay in a cabin - having become friends with the Apollo campers, it was a matter of making a PowerPoint to explain the many good reasons he should be allowed to stay in the Apollo cabin. Over this Summer, they’d befriended Lee Fletcher and Beckendorf, being some of the older camper, and of course having them as friends expanded Eli’s friend group to other cabins members.
In Titans Curse, they kept an eye on Nico as much as possible so the Stoll’s behaviour didn’t rub off on him. Seeing that role as babysitter kicking in here lol
(I’ll keep updating as I relisten to the books)
Pre Camp era:
Able to see through the mist easily and early on, living day to day life was a little daunting. Even more daunting one day, at the age of 13, when he was cornered by monsters outside a doughnut shop. They went into a panic shutting they eyes and running, only to go from hearing street noise and the smell of baked goods to the scent of pines and bacon, having landed in the middle of a large campsite. a horrible feeling of nausea too tho, having light travelled for the first time and much too far. They were like this for a couple days, staying sat next to a nice lady who never seemed to leave the campfire.
Unfortunately, he knew he couldn’t stay for long. Camp goers were starting to pack up. And so, while someone was busy folding up a tent, Evan went to the drivers seat of their van and left as quick as possible, knowing enough about cars from his mortal dad that he could get a decent ways away before stopping to figure out what he needed to do. What they even could do.
For the next two years, they found books in libraries to figure out how to drive within the lines of the law, and to an extent his own power, running into a few demigods before coming across a satyr who told him about camp

Unlocking the Perfect Adventure: Choosing the Best Van for Camper Conversion
The allure of van life has captivated the hearts of adventure-seekers and nomads worldwide. The concept of converting a standard van into a personalized home on wheels has gained immense popularity. However, finding the ideal van for your camper conversion project is a crucial initial step in this exhilarating journey.
Tumblr media
Selecting the Ideal Van
When seeking the best van for camper conversion, several essential factors should guide your decision-making process:
Size and Layout: Vans come in various sizes, offering different layouts and interior space. Larger vans like the Mercedes Sprinter or Ford Transit provide ample room for customization, while smaller models such as the Volkswagen Transporter or Nissan NV200 are ideal for more compact conversions.
Mechanical Condition: Opting for a van in good mechanical condition is fundamental. A reliable engine and a well-maintained vehicle are essential to ensure a smooth journey without unexpected breakdowns.
Budget: Consider your budget and whether you're inclined towards a new or used van. Newer models offer modern amenities but often come with a higher price tag. On the other hand, older models might require more maintenance but can be more cost-effective initially.
Customization Potential: Assess the van's build, looking for features like high roofs, extended wheelbases, or factory-built windows that align with your conversion vision.
Top Vans for Camper Conversions
Several vans stand out as popular choices for their conversion potential:
Tumblr media
Mercedes Sprinter: Renowned for its spacious interior and diverse roof height options, the Sprinter is favored for larger conversions due to its reliability and availability of parts.
Ford Transit: With multiple size variations, the Ford Transit offers flexibility for different conversion styles. Its accessibility and reasonable maintenance costs make it a preferred choice.
Volkswagen Crafter/Transporter: Known for its compact size, iconic design, and reliability, the VW Transporter is ideal for those seeking a smaller, maneuverable van. The Crafter, a larger model, is also valued for its space and dependability.
Dodge Ram Promaster: Recognized for its spacious, square-shaped build, the Promaster provides ample interior space and is well-suited for various conversion layouts. Its user-friendly design and relatively affordable maintenance attract many enthusiasts.
Conversion Accessibility
Consider the ease of the conversion process. Some vans may have readily available conversion kits or aftermarket parts, facilitating a smoother conversion process. Others might require more custom work and modifications, affecting both time and cost.
Tumblr media
Personal Preferences
Ultimately, the choice of the best van for a camper conversion is subjective. Consider your priorities, whether it's ample space, fuel efficiency, off-road capabilities, or a specific brand, to align the van with your travel aspirations and lifestyle.
Conclusion
Choosing the best van for a camper conversion is the foundation for crafting your mobile home. Evaluate your needs, explore available options, and select a van that not only fits your budget and space requirements but also resonates with your vision for a perfect home on wheels. The best van for a camper conversion is the one that becomes the ideal canvas for your personalized mobile lifestyle.

Our Story | Planet Warrior Sisters
Our Mission is to create fabulous, luxury recycled clothing and products that you love, while combating plastic waste.
Planet Warrior is run by two sisters Josie and Juliette. Our childhood was spent playing on the beach, and in the summer months we enjoyed travelling Europe in a VW Camper with our family, in hunt for the best sandy beaches and clear waters.
We wholeheartedly love our oceans and still spend much of our time on the beach and in the water. Our mission is to keep the waters and beaches clean! Our products use plastic waste, eco-rubber and more and our packaging is all super eco-friendly down to the tissue paper, stickers and packing tape!
As a planet, we are now in a position where we have produced more plastic than we could ever use. One great way forward is to recycle the vast quantity of what we already have in use, and create wonderful new products with it.
Planet Warrior has been awarded the Eco-Age Brandmark in recognition of championing the need to clean up our ocean’s plastic pollution through encouraging reduced use of plastic and engaging the local community, and the creation of sportswear made from recycled plastic waste.
