Rook Tarot Ask Game: Romance Edition

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm back with more major arcana-inspired questions for your Rook, this time focused on romance. The questions do contain spoilers, so proceed with caution!

The Fool: Describe the first meeting between Rook and their love interest. What was Rook thinking in that moment? Was it an instant attraction?

The Magician: How does trust develop between Rook and their partner?

The High Priestess: How did Rook respond to their developing feelings? Did they embrace the new feelings or hide from them?

The Empress: What actions do Rook and their love interest take to nurture their relationship?

The Emperor: What is the foundation of Rook’s relationship? What is the bond that holds them and their partner together?

The Hierophant: What is most sacred between Rook and their love interest? How do they honour that?

The Lovers: What does Rook learn about themself and their desires through their relationship with their love interest?

The Chariot: What does Rook do to balance their responsibilities as team leader with their responsibilities to their partner? Does one ever slip in favour of another? Do these two roles ever conflict?

Strength: Who makes the first move? How is it received? Is this reflective of their relationship dynamic in general?

The Hermit: In the quiet moments where it’s just the two of them, how do Rook and their partner share that time?

The Wheel of Fortune: Each of Rook’s potential love interests are dealing with significant personal issues and difficult choices. How do these choices affect their relationship, and how does Rook support them through their personal journey?

Justice: Reflect on the argument Rook and their partner have in the lead-up to the final battle. What emotions are driving the conversation? How is the issue resolved? 

The Hanged Man: How did Rook’s love interest respond to them being trapped in the Fade? If they were unaware (sacrificed or blighted), what was it like for Rook having to confront that in the Fade?

Death La Petite Mort: What does sex mean for Rook and their partner? How do they express themselves through sex, and how does this reflect their relationship in general? If their relationship is non-sexual, what does intimacy mean to them?

Temperance: What does Rook need to heal within themself to become a better partner? What about their SO?

The Devil: This is not a fun card to pull in a romance reading, especially not for Valentine’s Day. Instead, share a song that makes you think of your Rook and their partner. 

The Tower: How do Rook and their partner support each other in coping with the trauma they’ve endured? 

The Star: What does hope in the aftermath look like for Rook and their love interest? When things feel hopeless, how do they act as each other’s light in the darkness?

The Moon: The moon is bright because it reflects the light of the sun. Which qualities do Rook and their partner bring out in each other? Are these qualities positive or negative? 

The Sun: What is something Rook’s partner does that gives them that warm fuzzy feeling?

Judgement: What does Rook see when they look at their partner? What does their partner see when they look back?

The World: Thedas is saved, but changed. Where do Rook and their love interest go from here? Is marriage on the table? Children? What milestones do they have to look forward to?

Neve: Look, I’m finally getting to the end of cracking this case, I can’t stop now

Lucanis: When I sleep, Spite is the most awake, what am I to do? 

Harding: I can’t with these dreams… I’m not built for having dreams 

Rook: *beleaguered sigh* and what about you Bellara, what’s your excuse? 

Bellara: Hmm? 

Rook: what keeps you up at 4 in the morning 

Bellara: IT’S 4 IN THE MORNING??

I love how much physical touch happens between Rook and their companions-- not even in the romantic sense, but in that grounding, supportive, protective sense. You can really see how much Rook cares for their friends, and vice versa. I really loved how many times Rook put their hand on someone's shoulder or arm, or patted their back, and I love that the tactic for helping Harding at the end of her quest is to give her a grounding hug. A HUG, GUYS, to calm her down and show her that she's not alone. And, you can't forget all the times that a companion put their arm in front of Rook to protect them, or stepped in front of Rook to take the heat for them. Even the little bump on the arm that Varric gives Rook when he's talking them up to Neve is a nice gesture. Yes, I'll even throw in the touching during the romance scenes, like when Neve leans on Rook and giggles during their almost kiss, or the way Harding actually tries to RUN from Rook, who keeps trying to grab her, to avoid poisoning them, or the way Rook puts their finger on Lucanis' chest right before he fumbles the bag (lmao love you Lucanis). I've only done those three romances, so please feel free to add info for the others. These little details give SUCH a sweet picture of the bond that these people share, even if they don't discuss it out loud very much. It only makes me wish we got to see even more of it; that would have been nice :').

The party after Elgar’nan is dead is spectacular, you guys.

The factions have been hard at work for hours by the time everyone realizes Rook and their team have descended from the Archon’s floating palace.

The Wardens have been cutting back the calcifying blight. The Veiljumpers have been searching through wreckage and fallen buildings for survivors. The Shadow Dragons, Crows and Lords are helping hunt down stray Venatori, get everything organized, and send word to everyone outside of the city.

And the Mourn Watch are taking care of the numerous dead.

But then Rook comes down, and her team. And they’re alive! The Evanuris are dead! The Blight is over! Look! That hero is one of ours! They helped Rook!

And the celebration is spontaneous. The work continues of course. This clean up is going to take years. But everyone can’t help laughing, smiling and embracing. Song breaks out. Someone invaded a magister’s wine cellar and food supply. The Dalish show everyone that while the Evanuris might suck, elvish dancing is the shit! (The others are pretty good too. Someone finds the new Archon Pavus ten silk scarves).

The next morning—Rook THINKS it might be the next morning, but it honestly could be a week later— Rook peels their face off of Davrin’s breastplate and wriggles their way out Emmrich’s hold (Maker, someone find that man a teddy bear).

They are crashed out in the ruins of someone’s villa, a fountain nearby is trickling champagne, the Veilguard is sprawled around them in various states of dress and celebration. Manfred shambles by covered in lipstick. Assan chases him, someone has colored the griffon purple.

Rook has a vague memory of crowning Bel the new and only elven god on someone’s throne, with the Black Divine in attendance?

I have never encountered an NPC in a video game who has felt as much like a real person to me as Neve Gallus does. I have been thinking about this since Halloween 2024. Still not entirely sure why.

I don't ask for much. Or for anything. You know, the world's not fair on a good day. You and me, Rook. We chase trouble. So what can we ask for?
