MHA Netflix live adaptation.... how much to worry?

So the live MHA adaptation has been announced.

Personally, I think we already have an excellent adaptation, but I guess we need an English one.

So the screenplay will be written by Joby Harold and the adaptation will be directed by Shinsuke Sato (for the company Legendary Entertainment, Netflix is just going to distribute it).

Let's look at the screenplay writer first - because I know his work.

Joby Harold has mainly been a producer but he has written screenplay adaptations for four projects: Obi Wan Kenobi (tv show), Arm of the dead, King Arthur legend of the sword, Awake.

The one I watched is King Arthur legend of the sword and let me tell you, it was bad. Arthuriana is one of my main fandom and we were all excited about that movie. Imagine, this is the time to ride the popularity of King Arthur thanks to Merlin BBC, it is the middle of Game of Thrones popularizing fantasy and medieval shows... and the movie was bad. The movie was supposed to adapt the start of the legends and be an introduction for a series of six movies, a whole franchise. It bombed bad.

Not only it was extremely boring, but all the characters were - taken out. All the fundamental popular King Arthur characters were eliminated to leave space to just Arthur. That is it. Just Arthur and new added characters that no one cared about. Not only that, but Arthur suddenly became a manly macho protagonist that had nothing of the King Arthur we know and love.

Now let's look at the director: Shinsuke Sato.

He directed some anime adaptation into live... in particular 2018 Bleach where...

Because I have watched none of his movies, I decided to check the ratings on imdb of the last ones:

So yeah. I have no confidence in this one.

Ambush Simulation: Final War

Finally the full view of Touya's hammer, elaborated in this post here. He doesn't use it in The Summer Camp Ambush Simulation fic nor have I actually written anything where it is in use, so I don't actually know when, or if, the hammer will even make an appearance.

All I know is they both look ready to smack a bitch.

Also, super thrilled with how the fire turned out in this one. Tried a new a technique and definitely looks better than my earlier attempt in the original comic Ambush Simulation.

In further evidence that I never fully left the Castlevania fandom, this one is inspired by one of my absolute favorite fighting dynamics/animations of all time:  The coordination and cooperation of Slogra and Gaibon. They’re one of the first boss villains you face in the Symphony of the Night video game and I was hella stoked with the Netflix depiction of their iconic fighting style.  There's a lot of animation studios that do badass fight scenes, but nobody does fight scenes like Powerhouse Animation.

(Lmk Wukong) Hearts were in his eyes when he first met you, especially in a street fight. He was looking over the city sense he got a bit bored on the island, then he notch you a bunny demon as you did your normal routine. Wukong had to rub his eyes he thought you were cute. Afterwords you soon found yourself surrounded by thugs which worried Wukong And he had no problem stepping in to help you. That was until you demonstrated that you can very much take care of yourself as you cold-cock Is each and every single one of them then walked off, Now Wukong was definitely interested😍😍😍😍

(MKR Wukong) Love at first sight indeed, or should i say love at first fight🤭😉 especially when you helped him and his group in an ambush. Wukong was fighting demons that tried to go after the monk agian🙄😒 but that was when he and the group met you. You came from above, literally you came from knowhere and went beating up the group of demons, Wukong snapped out of his shock and joined you in the fight. In the end, Wukong was chirping as he blushed and introduced himself.

(HIB Wukong) His jaw dropped so hard when you both met for the first time. Wukong was chasing a group of demons had kidnapped silly girl, and he was savagely chasing them in pure fury. That when you jumped them and beat the crap out of all them while making sure Silly girl wasn't hurt, this shocked Wukong as he watched you and at the end. You picked her up and ask Wukong if this was his child, it was at that moment that Wukong fell in love with you.

(NR Wukong) A Hot Lady with bunny features, Don't mind if he does. He had wasted no time Sliding up to you at the club and flirting and trying to make moves on you. You of course found him annoying and did your best with ignoring him until some other sleazy bags came and flirted with you as well. You told them to step off and go away, and this annoyed Wukong because he saw you first. Then he saw you roll up your sleeves and the neck thing he knew your were serving up a bunch of knuckle sandwiches left and right👊. Well mark him down as scared and horny😳😳

(Netflix Wukong) This dude heavily underestimates you like the adorable moron he is. I mean, you're a bunny one of the most non-threatening animals Sense the kittens of course, he took this time to show off and brag about himself to you. To be honest, The reason why you are stuck around is that desperate attention seeking boy, well he was funny to you and surprisingly clumsy around you. Then one day the village was attacked by demons he was quick to respond and interesting enough so were you. You beat up one group while he fights the others and you both worked together until all the demons were gone, at the end he was blushing as you hugged him close to you.🫂

(BTW Wukong) A woman who can beat him up, yeeessss Please 🙏. Some demons had been making a mess in his territory and he was on his way to take care of it. That was until he saw that someone beat him to it, which happened to be you. You were beating up these jacka** for trashing your garden and he watched you beat the crap out of them. When you were finished he had voiced how impressed he was in your strength and you hit it off in no time🤗🤭

(The Destined One) Oh he was quite shy, when he first met you, like you were super pretty to him. He had very cold feet until you walked up and introduced yourself to him and then he found himself talking and getting to know you. He felt very comfortable and quickly build a bond with you, but one day he went to visit you again until he saw that you were surrounded by enemies Which frightened him and he ran to quickly save you. Then he saw your combat skills, the destined one's eyes widened as you Single handedly destroy those other guys. He had to sit down until his shock was gone as you talked his ear off.

I've seen more than a few posts by now asking why Horikoshi doesn't just kill Dabi off by now, and frankly I agree with that question. Let's be honest, killing him would be a mercy at this point and in spite of everything he's done, I don't thinking another prolonged coma with sporadic moments of consciousness is a punishment that fits the crime. He killed 30+ people, caused mass destruction, and tried to overturn an entire society.

Giving some crossover insight, Light Yagami probably killed millions with the Death Note, and I don't think even he would deserve the fate Dabi got. His poetic justice was he was an arrogant psychopath who died a pathetic death in a warehouse. The vampires of Castlevania Netflix have killed and tortured millions of people over the centuries they've been alive and out of all of them, I think only Erzsébet Báthory might deserve that fate, and that's only because she's ascended to goddess status and may be unkillable at this point and eternal imprisonment might be the only option.

So why doesn't Horikoshi kill Dabi off already?

Well....Horikoshi does have a problem with killing off characters unless its for shock value. There's no reason Nighteye, Magne, or Midnight had to die other than shock value. Most other characters that are killed off are barely in the series long enough to consider them a noteworthy death.

You could argue that Magne's death was to show that Overhaul was a new villain that meant business, but given the fact Overhaul doesn't kill or maim any other character the same way unless it's one of his nameless henchmen, his power doesn't prove to be that much of a threat to the main cast.

When Midnight reacted to Majestic's death, I legitimately asked, "Who?"

Endeavor confronts Dabi about killing Snatch and even Dabi asks, "Who?" (Also, why? Did Endeavor even know Snatch? Why bring that up?)

Why did Star have to die? To showcase how strong an opponent AFO/Shigaraki was? Uh, we already knew that...? To show why no other nations were getting involved in the fighting in Japan? A simple doomsday message from multiple nations that says, 'You're on your own,' would have sufficed. AFO could have been blackmailing world leaders into staying out of it. There could have been an international conspiracy of corrupt leaders who were in on it. They could have been having the same issue with mass prison breaks and couldn't help out. There was no need to invent a whole new character for any of that, so her death was a waste.

Arguably, Twice is the only character I can think of at the moment whose death was plot relevant. Realistically, how else was that fight going to go down? He and Hawks spend the entire battle in a weird standoff?

So either Dabi's current state is the result of creator cruelty or:

In the last couple chapters we have left, we're going to find out Eri's Quirk is not as damaged as everyone thought it was and she comes in clutch to save everyone. It's a cop-out ending, but I tentatively think this one might actually happen yet, mostly because it would neatly fix Bakugou's destroyed hand and some of the other characters who were maimed in Final War to the point their Quirks are barely usable.

Dr. Garaki cuts a deal where he biologically engineers a solution that saves everyone in exchange for a reduced sentence. Also a legit possibility. Would not be shocked if President Hawks visits the guy in prison and says, "Listen, a lot of people got really messed up in that last fight, so we've got a proposition for you." Saving both heroes and ensuring the villains actually live out a life sentence.

That unknown figure wandering around the wasteland does prove to be Shigaraki and he's got some unknown Quirk from AFO that could potentially save his comrades and we're headed for a Harry Potter Musical 'It's Not Over Yet' twist ending.

If the rumors about My Hero getting a sequel series are true, Horikoshi may be keeping Dabi around in case he has a use for him there. I don't know how that would even be possible, but I do admit the possibility of this conversation does make me laugh a little:

Pro Shouto: The plan couldn't have gone more wrong. Deku was in the wrong place. Bakugou was being Bakugou. Yaoyorozu had a relapse in nervousness and just created those weird dolls of hers instead of the materials we actually needed. The whole thing made the civilians laugh though. Not mean laughter, they were entertained and that's important, but if we were still in school, Aizawa would have expelled us all for sure.

Dabi: ...as much I just love our bi-weekly challenge of how long we can keep a conversation going before that heart monitor goes off and they put me back to sleep, do I have to listen to you bitch about work?

Pro Shouto: You said you wanted to hear about the outside world.

Dabi: Yeah, the fucking weather and shit.

Pro Shouto: You want a full forecast or--

Dabi: Don't make me come down there.

...

Realistically, none of those four scenarios are gonna happen, but the sequel rumors are preventing me from discounting them outright.

I would say there's no point in having that last minute 'everyone is saved' because that's it, that's the end, but then I remember Zuko's last line in Avatar is, "Where is my mother?" and opened up that whole subplot for the graphic novels.

So I don't know anymore.
