Put a half-teaspoon in each drink, soup, meal... (and 3-5 grams for acute pain)
The beneficial effects of turmeric are traditionally achieved through dietary consumption, even at low levels, over long periods of time. The activities of turmeric include antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant, antiseptic, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, radioprotective, and digestive activities. Phytochemical analysis of turmeric has revealed a large number of compounds, including curcumin, volatile oil, and curcuminoids, which have been found to have potent pharmacological properties.
Turmeric is used as an herbal medicine for rheumatoid arthritis, chronic anterior uveitis, conjunctivitis, skin cancer, small pox, chicken pox, wound healing, urinary tract infections, and liver ailments (Dixit, Jain, and Joshi 1988). It is also used for digestive disorders; to reduce flatus, jaundice, menstrual difficulties, and colic; for abdominal pain and distension (Bundy et al. 2004); and for dyspeptic conditions including loss of appetite, postprandial feelings of fullness, and liver and gallbladder complaints. It has anti-inflammatory, choleretic, antimicrobial, and carminative actions (Mills and Bone 2000). The main clinical targets of turmeric are the digestive organs: in the intestine, for treatment of diseases such as familial adenomatous polyposis (Cruz-Correa et al. 2006); in the bowels, for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (Hanai and Sugimoto 2009); and in the colon, for treatment of colon cancer (Naganuma et al. 2006). For arthritis, dosages of 8–60 g of fresh turmeric root three times daily have been recommended (Fetrow and Avila 1999). For dyspepsia, 1.3–3.0 g of turmeric root is recommended.

Sodium Thiosulphate Market Challenges
Efficacy and harmful effects of sodium thiosulphate
Sodium thiosulfate is a reducing agent. However, it scavenges less oxygen than sodium sulfite, sodium bisulfite or sodium metabisulfite. Prolong exposure to sodium thiosulphate may irritates skin, eye, nose, and throat. Sodium thiosulfate reacts slowly with chlorine under some conditions, and requires more time for dechlorination than most dechlorination chemicals. Over dechlorination with sodium thiosulfate may encourage thiobacillus and some other bacterial growth in water streams, particularly during low flow condition. In addition, presence of alternatives such as ammonium thiosulphate, Phenylarsine Oxide (PAO) solutions etc. which has better efficiency, restraints the market growth of sodium thiosulphate.
Emergence of COVID-19
The outbreak of COVID 19 has hampered the growth of sodium thiosulphate market. The supply chain disruption, price fluctuation of oil, and closure of manufacturing units due to coronavirus pandemic have lowered the demand globally. According to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), a 1.5 million barrel per day (mb/d) production cut for the second quarter of 2020, significantly lowering the demand for sodium thiosulphate. In addition, decrease in purchasing capital impacted the growth of textile, paper & pulp, and mining industries negatively affecting the growth of the sodium thiosulphate market.
Market Landscape
Technology launches, acquisitions and R&D activities are key strategies adopted by players in the sodium thiosulphate market report. In 2020, the market of sodium thiosulphate has been consolidated by the top 10 companies accounting for xx% of the share. Major players in the sodium thiosulphate market are NISSEI CORPORATION, Sankyo Kasei, Liyang Qingfeng Fine chemical Co. Ltd., Skyline Chemical Corporation, INEOS Group AG, Merck KGaA, Seidler Chemical Co, Inc., Wintersun Chemical, Hubbard-Hall, Veckridge Chemical Co Inc., Cater Chemicals Corporation, and Allan Chemical Corporation., among others.
Acquisitions/Technology Launches
In May 2017, Fennec Pharmaceuticals Inc. launched a Named Patient Programme (NPP) in Europe with a focus on the development of Sodium Thiosulfate (STS) for the prevention of platinum-induced ototoxicity in pediatric patients.
Key Takeaways
Rise in mining activities in the U.S also raises the demand for sodium thiosulphate. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. mines produced an estimated $82.2 billion of raw mineral materials in 2018, a 3 percent increase over the revised total of $79.7 billion in 2017.
Increasing environmental concerns and government restrictions augments the demand for sodium thiosulphate for water treatment and bleaching process.
Decline in manufacturing activities and disruption of supply chain due to the outbreak of coronavirus has hampered the growth of the sodium thiosulphate market.

Study the Nephroprotective Effect of Ziziphus jujube Extract Against Cisplatin -Induced Nephrotoxicity by Faisal Mohammed Al Tenaiji* in Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research https://biomedres.us/fulltexts/BJSTR.MS.ID.002413.php Nephrotoxicity is a common adverse effect of many chemotherapeutic agents characterized by altered intraglomerular hemodynamics, tubular cell toxicity, inflammation, and thrombotic microangiopathy. Chemotherapy-induced tubular toxicity might be due to decreasing of mitochondrial function, interfering with tubular transport, increasing oxidative stress, and formation of free radicals. Cisplatin is an anticancer agent used largely in treatment of solid tumors. The mainstay dose-limiting toxicity of cisplatin is nephrotoxicity. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective effects of Ziziphus jujube (ZE), a species of Ziziphus (L) in the buckthorn family Rhamnaceae, on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. Twenty Sprague-Dawely rats were divided into four groups and received different drug combinations orally. Group I was regarded as control group and received normal saline. Group II received cisplatin at 5mg/kg, group III received ZE at 500mg/kg, and group IV received both cisplatin and ZE. All animals were decapitated 6 days after cisplatin administration. Results revealed that cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity as indicated by a significant increase in plasma creatinine and lipid peroxidation. This increase was significantly inhibited in animals pretreated with ZE. Histopathological observations were in correlation with the biochemical parameters in that ZE minimized cisplatin-induced renal tubular damage. Accordingly, ZE provides protection against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in terms of oxidative stress. Cancer is a group of diseases in which cells in the body divide abnormally. The cancerous cells may occur in liquids, as in leukemia or can invade surrounding tissues and spread through the blood and lymph system and establish colonies to other parts of the body. When these cells have migrated to other regions in the body, the cancer is called disseminated or metastasized [1], there are various types of cancer depend on its location, such as lung, colon, breast, skin, ovarian or prostate cancer [2]. Localized cancers can be removed by surgery or irradiation with high survival rates. But, the success of these treatments is frequently limited by metastasis of cancer cells to distant body. Biomed Grid | The Use of Ambrosia Moritima Methanolic Extract as Nephroprotective against Rifampin Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rats
Introduction
Plants are the most important source for traditional medicines and may contribute to the development of new medicines for various human health problems. Medicinal plants have played an essential role in the development of human culture, religions and ceremonies. 80% of the world’s inhabitants rely mainly on traditional medicines for their primary health care [1]. Medicinal plants are most important to daily health and practices particularly in developing countries, also herbal medicine became a topic of augmented global importance having impacted on both world health and International trade [2]. Drugs are sometimes associated with side effects, whereas phytochemical (plant extract) have been found to have fewer side effects, better patient tolerance, relatively less expenses and a long history of use and renewability in nature .The kidneys are a pair of organs located in the back of the abdomen. Each kidney is about 4 or 5 inches long about the size of fist. The kidneys’ functions are to filter the blood. All the blood in our bodies passes through the kidneys several times a day. The kidneys remove wastes, control the body’s fluid balance, and regulate the balance of electrolytes [3]. Nephrotoxicity is poisonous effect of some substances, both toxic chemicals and medication on the kidneys. Many of the drugs causes toxicity to the kidney, these drugs used in chemotherapy such as Cisplatin, Carboplatin.
Varieties of natural products, medicinal plants and dietary components have been evaluated as nephroprotective agents. Currently, medicinal plants are widely used in the treatment of many diseases owing their safety, cheapness and nontoxicity when compared with the synthetic drugs [4]. Increasing health concerns necessitate reliance on alternate remedies for sustaining good health. Medicinal plants are extensively used for the management and treatment of various diseases. Plant drugs are considered nontoxic and devoid of side effects [5].
Plant Material
Ambrosia moritima leaves belong to the family of Asteraceae were collected in May 2017 from Alkhartoum city. The plant was authenticated by the botanists in medicinal and aromatic plants research institute
Preparation of extract
500 g of Ambrosia moritima was successively extracted by soaking in 80% methanol for about seventy-two hours of solvent with daily filtration and evaporation. Solvents were evaporated under reduced pressure to dryness using rotary evaporator apparatus
Experimental Design
Group A: serving as control for 28 days. Group B: was injected by rifampin I/p-0.8 ml/Kg induced nephrotoxicity for 28 days. Group C: was injected by rifampin I/p-0.8 ml/Kg and treated with the low dose (300mg/Kg) of the methanolic extract of Ambrosia moritima leaves. Group D: was injected by rifampin I/p-s 0.8 ml/ Kg and treated with high dose (600mg/Kg) of methanolic extract of Ambrosia moritima leaves. Serum concentration of urea, creatinine, and electrolytes are measured using commercial kits (Biosystemm S.A Costa Barva 30, Barcelona Spain).
Statistical Analysis
Data were expressed as mean ± standard error of mean (SEM). Statistical evaluation was done using SPSS (version 16.0).
Results
Table 1: Effect of Ambrosia moritima extract administered with Rifampin in the concentration of Serum Urea.
Table 2:Effect of Ambrosia moritima extract administered with Rifampin in the concentration of Serum Creatinine.
We designed the current study to test the hypothesis that Ambrosia moritimam leaves extract could protect against Rifampin (RIF)-induced renal damage in rats through attenuation of inflammation and prevention of oxidative stress. Oral administration of rifampin in dose of 70mg/kg I/p for 28 days to rats caused nephrotoxicity manifested by significant increase (P ˂ 0.05) in serum level of urea, creatinine, Na and K when compared with the (negative) control group. Oral administration of methanolic extract of Ambrosia moritimam leaves for 28 days induced significant (P˂ 0.05) decreases in high serum levels of urea, creatinine (Table 1,2). The concentration os sodium and potassium were increased when the rifampin was injected to the rats, administration of A. moritimam leaves extract resulted in decreased level of both sodium and potassium, however the decrease was marked with the high dose when compared with rifampin intoxicated rats (Table 3,4).

Discussion
It has been reported that nephropathy is an important microvascular complication of anti-tuberculosis therapy multiple studies have reported that oxidative stress and inflammation are implicated in drug-induced organ toxicity. However, renal injury induced by anti-tuberculosis therapy is usually reversible and could be treated appropriately if detected early. Therefore, the use of antioxidants could protect against RIF-induced oxidative stress and nephrotoxicity. The results obtained showed that the administration of Rifampin (RIF) has induced renal injury and glomerular dysfunction as evident by the elevated serum urea, creatinine, sodium and potassium levels. These parameters are often regarded as reliable markers of renal damage [6]. In addition, serum creatinine has been used to estimate glomerular function and its elevation is an indicator of renal failure [7]. The elevated serum markers of renal toxicity is agreement with the study of Hashmi et al. [3], who reported increased serum levels of urea and creatinine in albino rabbits following administration of anti-tuberculosis drugs Isoniazid (INH) and Rifampin (RIF) induced nephrotoxicity. In the present study, results suggested that methanolic extract of Ambrosia moritimam 600 mg/ kg significantly reduced Rifampin-induced elevated serum levels of creatinine, urea, sodium, and potassium. The histological findings also supported the nephroprotective action of methanolic extract of Ambrosia moritimam.
Conclusion
It can be concluded that Ambrosia moritimam has anaphor protective effect which might be due to the presence of one or more of flavonoids. In experimental animals several strategies to ameliorate the toxicity have been attempted. These include controlling the time of administration of the antibiotics, modifying the diet and co administering agent to mitigate the renal toxicity.

Which plants are effective at treating kidney diseases?
Plant-based foods are much better at promoting health than animal-based foods for a variety of reasons. Besides their abundance in essential nutrients, edible plants also contain a variety of phytonutrients that help combat or treat disease. The ability of these plants to produce antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and other therapeutic compounds serves as their main advantage over conventional medicines, which are chemically synthesized and cause more adverse effects.
Several edible medicinal plants are historically known to treat problems related to the kidneys. According to studies, ancient civilizations used various herbs and functional foods to address kidney stones and kidney disease. To examine their efficacy, Egyptian researchers selected four age-old remedies for kidney-related problems and tested their extracts against chemical-induced kidney toxicity (nephrotoxicity).
Ammi visnaga (khella), Petroselinum crispum (garden parsley), Hordeum vulgare (barley) and Cymbopogon schoenanthus (camel grass) are all medicinal plants commonly used today as food. The researchers found that these traditional remedies for kidney stones are rich in antioxidant compounds that make them effective treatments for nephrotoxicity and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The details of these findings were published in the journal BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
These medicinal foods can protect against inflammatory diseases like CKD
The kidneys are part of the renal system and are responsible for many crucial functions, such as maintaining overall fluid balance, filtering the blood, getting rid of toxins and waste from food or medications and creating hormones that help produce red blood cells.
But because of their constant exposure to toxic substances, the kidneys are always at risk of getting damaged due to nephrotoxicity. Nephrotoxicity, if not addressed properly, can lead to impaired kidney function or even kidney failure.
Khella is a flowering plant from the carrot family and is sometimes called bishop’s weed. As an herbal medicine, khella is often used to treat renal colic. Its main active compound, khellin, is a known smooth muscle relaxant and is effective against urolithiasis.
Parsley is another flowering plant with plenty of medicinal properties. Besides nephroprotective activities, parsley also has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, anti-urolithiasis, anti-cancer and anti-hypertensive activities, according to studies.
Barley is a nutritious cereal grain that offers a lot of impressive benefits. Due to its abundance in dietary fiber, it is often used to help with weight loss. Barley is considered a traditional remedy for urinary stones, diabetes and high blood cholesterol.
Camel grass is a desert plant that was used by the Ancient Egyptians to treat various ailments. Some of its most notable properties include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, antispasmodic, anti-rheumatic and chemoprotective activities.
To evaluate the ability of these plants to improve kidney health, the researchers first obtained aqueous extracts from each and analyzed their phytochemical content. They then used the extracts to treat mammalian kidney (Vero) cells that had been exposed to carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) to induce renal toxicity.
The researchers reported that the extracts contained varying amounts of phenolic compounds and triterpenoids, as well as vitamin C. These antioxidants allowed the extracts to suppress CCl4-induced oxidative stress significantly by scavenging free radicals and increasing cell antioxidant levels.
All four extracts also significantly reduced CCl4-induced inflammation by inhibiting the expression of associated molecules, such as NF-kB, iNOS and nitric oxide. Additionally, the extracts improved the morphological appearance of Vero cells, cellular necrosis and the expression of kidney injury molecule-1, a marker of renal damage.
The extract from khella reduced CCl4-induced oxidative and inflammatory stress in Vero cells and proved to be more potent than Ketosteril, a synthetic drug used to treat CKD. (Related: Invasive weed from Africa found to be an excellent protective agent for the kidneys, according to new study.)
Based on these findings, the researchers concluded that the edible medicinal plants they studied, especially khella, are promising treatments for nephrotoxicity and other chronic diseases associated with oxidative stress and inflammation.
