His frozen minions bring the struggling actor into his own personal quarters, the actor spitting obscenities and cursing them to Netherrealm and back, being unceremoniously thrown down on the floor, his minions leaving and shutting the door behind them.

This, Johnny Cage, stares at him defiantly, brown eyes full of life and emotions and a warm dagger of pain twists in Bi-Han's ice cold heart, slowly walking towards his captive, taking off his gloves and mask. Sub-Zero circles his captive taking in every visible detail, cold finger tips touching a warm cheek and Johnny flinches away, but Sub-Zero is undetered, trailing over exposed skin, running his fingers trough hair that are not deathly white.

Sub-Zero's white yes meet brown ones - there's still the steely defiance but now there's fear - and Johnny Cage tenses, awaiting whatever is coming in next.

Sub-Zero picks him up by the collar of his uniform, presses him against the wall and kisses him. Johnny Cage fights, bucking his body to try and shove him off, turning his head away to escape the unwanted kisses, but it only gives Sub-Zero more warm skin to map and when Bi-Han finally captures Johnny's lips in a kiss, Johnny fights harder, biting at Bi-Han's lips until he draws blood, trying to knee Bi-Han anywhere he can.

But eventually....Johnny finds out that fighting is futile and Bi-Han's heart sings.

Although the previous alternation between them didn't go without a fight and Johnny found out that it did not matter how much he fought, it did not amount to anything.

But his fighting spirit was not broken.

A bruise was forming on Bi-Han's jaw from the punch he had recieved from Johnny when he untied his hands to tie them at the front and to take off his upper armor, but was quickly subdued with an ice dagger to the throat and a believable threat whispered into his ear.

They were laying down on the sheets of Bi-Han's king sized bed, the two of them spooning, Bi-Han having a nice view of Johnny's near perfect back, running his fingers over them, his arms and neck, rewarding Johnny with gentle love bites and kisses, for being good to him but all the good thinks must come to an end.

Bi-Han felt his powers stirring, the slight tingling sensation alerted him to an upcoming danger. Tilting Johnny's head towards him, Bi-Han seals their lips in a slow, languid kiss - Bi-Han didn't mind that Johnny was unresponsive to it. He would make him his soon enough.

On his way out of the room, Bi-Han collected his gloves and mask, picking up the discarded Johnny's discarded armor, freezing it and shattering it against the wall.

Johnny won't need it in the future after everything is done.

Sub-Zero walks past his lined up minions, his Johnny Cage at the front, blue eyes staring into nothing, skin frost bitten. Sub-Zero takes off his mask and presses his lips to Johnny's - they no longer yield.

Johnny can hear the commotion outside, rolling over onto his other side to face the door, Johnny waits for his captor to come in, to snatch him up once again and take him somewhere where his friends won't find him.

The door pursts open and Johnny flinches, looking up at -

"Syzoth?"

"Johnny?"

Johnny bursts into tears, covering his face with his hands, too overwhelmed to do anything. He can't look at himself, how he looks to Syzoth, hiccuping out a sob.

Syzoth is by his side in a second, breaking his chains and wrapping him in a thin sheet. "Johnny, we have to go, quick, quick!"

Syzoth is pulling out of the bed and Ashrah is there too - when did she come into the room? - helping him up and they guide him trough the corridors, thankfully not encountering any of Titan Sub-Zero's minions.

Ashrah is silent, Syzoth is telling him that everything will be alright and Johnny wants to just shut his brain off.

Sub-Zero is defeated.

Johnny feels as if a heavy weight was lifted off his shoulders and he ugly cries in the safety of Wu Shi Academy, trying to muffle his wailing into a pillow.

A concerned monk enters his room, checking over his injuries, thinking that it got worse and trough gentle words, soft 'May I's, guides him to the hot spring and trough hazy mind, Johnny sinks into the water, mind going a mile a minute but at the same time not, after a while, Johnny finds himself relaxing into the water and against better judgment, Johnny closes his eyes.

A shocked gasp is what wakes him up, Raiden standing there with a tray of food intended for him, Raiden's eyes looking over his marked body and Johnny covers himself, sinking into the water, feeling violated in more ways than one.

"Johnny, I apologise, I-"

"Get out!"

Raiden murmurs an apology, leaving the tray near the hot spring and scurrying out without a second glance, looking down on the ground.

And Johnny weeps, sobs muffling into his hand, mind not comprehending why it was him.

"When we defeated Titan Sub-Zero, it was your name he called, Johnny Cage." Ashrah says softly as she checks over his healed marks.

"Mine? Or my frozen counterpart."

Ashrah pauses and Johnny looks at her. "I saw my other self, Ashrah. I looked...dead."

"Johnny Cage..."

Ashrah pulls him into a hug, Johnny resting his head on her shoulder. "Did you see yourself too?"

"No, I did not. And for that, I am glad. But for you-"

"I don't want pity, Ashrah. I'm doing mostly fine now, thanks to therapy and great support system." Pulling back, Johnny collected his shirt, sighing softly.

"I just want to leave that event of my life behind."

I'm in the process of writing a Nelfia oneshot and it's giving me so many thoughts about Nell and Sofia, aged 40-50. Like post Sofia redemption and them getting together, now at the stage where they've been together for a good number of years and have settled into their routine together.

Where Nell still runs the Talbot. But Roxy and Amadin have long since moved out and started their own family, and George is out getting into her own adventures. With Sofia having moved in originally under the presence of keeping Nell company, but ends up taking on more and more responsibility around the pub and they end up running it together.

Nell living her best older woman, no nonsense, butch life. She's done her share of boasting about her adventures to patrons, and has honestly gotten a bit sick of the tourists that come just to gawk at 'The Rebel Nelly', but will still spin tales and recounts stories to the young children of the village, with funny voices and acting to match.

At this point she's also realised she's got some sort of charm that has people swooning over her. She still could care less, but she had over the years figured out how to get a few more tips and purchases out of these customers with a cocky wink and a well timed pet name. The locals all know its an act though, shaking their heads anytime a traveller tries anything further, knowing they'll get brushed off.

Cause Nell is very much dedicated and loyal to her wife, Sofia. They aren't wives in the legal sense, a pardon for Sofia was as much as they could wrestle when it came to the law. But, they are definitely wives in any other sense of the word. If you're paying attention you might notice a soft look, or a quick kiss between them while they tackle a busy night of drunk and rowdy patrons.

Despite earning her redemption, Sofia still notices the suspicious glances and conversations pausing when she comes near. It's nothing overt, not anymore, not after Nell found out about the treatment she was getting when she had first settled in. If anything, to Sofia it's the best she's ever been received by the town. Younger people tend not to care about her past, having not been affected by it personally and only knowing her as she is now, and will make friendly conversation with her. She's even made a few friends over the years. She's finally not isolated, and if that means ignoring a few glares from the older townspeople, she's okay with that.

Sofia doesn't mind working behind the bar, but she'd much prefer watching Nell do her thing there. Instead she's content to move around the room on a busy night collecting glasses and wiping tables, or will sit in the corner with a candle and her ink, pen and paper working on any accounts or communications need doing. Sometimes, on a slow day she will even add little magic effects to accompany the tales Nell is spinning for the little ones.

Just, sleepy sunny mornings where they lounge about their shared bed after late energetic nights in the pub. Soft looks and petnames and quick banter thrown across the room. Domestic moments and the odd adventure when it gets a bit too stuffy in the town. Just, yeah.

Set in Ren'Py format. 6. Body Count by Nell Going on a Love Island type dating show sounds fun until bodies begin to drop. On a secluded island with no contact from outside you must appease the cameras and solve the murder of your fellow contestant. Has a trigger warning list and features 18+ content. Summer of Love by ThatWheelchairChick Joining a dating show with a bunch of strangers may seem like a bad idea, And hey! Pretty much a non murderous version of Body Count where you can focus on the island dating aspect without the risk of death. Is marked as 18+ and can have some raunchy lines in it. We appreciate the love you are sending our way for this project. At the beginning of it, my wife and I talked about it into details about what we wanted from it and how we knew we might just not have any sort of success whether that meant financially, critically, or socially. We wondered if this project would be something we could find ourselves doing in the long term, if it was something we could see ourselves doing full-time, and if it was something that would be genuinely appreciated.

Daemon AU - Adelheid leaves him sometime between his two weeks in Ripley’s care and when he comes back to himself, gun in hand. He knows trauma can Separate a person from their Daemon. He still never thought Adelheid would leave him.

AU PercyRipley Briarwoods Escape - Percy’s at the Lyceum or Westhall Academy in Westruun to study when he realises he’s had no letters from his family in weeks. He returns home worried - and then he isn’t allowed to leave.

That doesn’t stop Ripley from testing it, torturing him, or tearing the bond apart. Percy knew he’d likely not be a good or attentive partner in a bond. It still hurts that even Ripley rejected him.

Hogwarts AU - This would take a fuckload of worldbuilding and might as well just be a whole ass other magic AU but whatever, that was the original idea and that’s what I’m running with. May never get to this one.

Post-That Balance May Return Smuts - Look, the negotiation of sex when there’s trauma involved and all is fun. The matter of consent, of keeping an eye on each other to know that things are okay. The fact that Percy has so many terrible habits when it comes to self-care. TASTY is all I’m sayin’.

Stuck On You, recommended by Blorb above is by Griftings who frankly writes all-around amazing fic. I’d also like to add on My Heart Blows Wild which is their Modern AU! It is, sadly, also unfinished but damn if it isn’t good as all hell. Vex POV and delightfully funny.

My friend @nanyoky​ also writes fics, and has three (3!) different AUs that might be of interest to you. Firstly is Breakfast At Silver Lake, a Silver Age Of Hollywood AU with Vex as a leading actress at Percy as a cinematographer. It’s only a oneshot but it is lovely. Vex focussed and a good look social expectations of women.

Second is the Western AU, because... look. Look. Percy’s whole storyline and character has a whole lot of gunslinging western’s in the design doc, I s2g. It’s only two chapters in, but Two Weeks Ride To Whitestone is a lot of fun. Rotating POV, but ensemble cast - everyone’ll get their moment to shine.

Thirdly... so, Nell and I are both absolute suckers for gothic literature, gothic films, and anything Guillermo del Toro. So when GDT did a gothic horror/romance film, called Crimson Peak... we were both doomed. I’d already done a Crimson Peak AU - this time it was Nell’s turn. Mind the warnings on this one, and note that it’s presently more Percy-focussed, but Horror For Love is something special, even as it’s still ongoing.

Ongoing is sadly going to be a theme of the remaining fics barring one, so lets give you that finished one now! A few years back one delightful critter decided to write a Modern AU Winter’s Crest Fake Dating Fic.

Yes it’s very tropey. It is also very fun. How to Fall in Love With Your Best Friend (a Holiday Guide by Percival de Rolo) is nonetheless exceptionally cute, and while I find it low on conflict (not a bad thing necessarily; my friends will call me an angst gremlin) it’s thoroughly enjoyable when all you want is some holiday fluff. Perc’ahlia fic and flips between POVs by chapter.

And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills by umbrellawarriors is an unfinished fic but extremely good. Modern AU with some creative rejigging of a few characters and conflicts - but all in ways which make sense with the characters. It has some very good examples of characters struggling to communicate things which matter to them in ways which feel believable and what it does with Saundor, Vex and Percy is well worth looking at. Also, very very Vex-centric.

My next rec gets a bit smutty, but it’s damn good smut - Modern AU, MMO-friends Percy and Vex who end up finding their real world lives butting up against each other. Fantastic tension, changing POVs, so close to being finished! But sadly not updated in ages - though the author, @msviolacea​, has talked a little about how they’d end it. This is when the wicked play and it is fantastic.

Lastly, because this one only gives us four chapters but damn if the worldbuilding isn’t intriguing as all hell - a Steampunk AU! Which of course has a lot of fun potential with these characters. Where There’s Smoke hints at a lot of unspoken (and as-yet unlearned) backstory for everyone involved and I am desperately curious to find out where it goes! This fic shifts POVs as it goes, but starts with Vex’s.

Thanks! I'm looking for setting AUs (eg modern or fairy tale or with another canon, as opposed to canon divergence AUs) for anyone in cr1 or cr3. (Vex is a fave, thus asking you, and I've rarely met an NPC I didn't love). I know there are a TON out there which is great but a lot to sift through, so any recs appreciated no worries about quantity.

Hi! Sorry, I had a class - I don't read C3 fic too often unfortunately, so I can't help you on that front, but I do have a few favorite Vex AUs! I'll be sticking to one focused on her as per your request <3

Some are set in worlds pretty similar to CR, except without the plots known to canon. I'm ruling them as complete AUs if no adventures similar to canon occur. There’s also a huge Perc'ahlia bias too lmao

The Wise Man's Tree is an all-time favorite. Just. I aspire to weave this level of intricate plot and worldbuilding, and my goal as a writer is to one day make a mystery with this level of tightly-woven plot, love and brilliance. It's a WIP that hasn't been updated in... a while, but I promise you it's worth the agony of the cliffhanger where it left off. It's just that good. It's got Beauty and the Beast vibes while not quite aligning with that either!

what stays and what fades away is one I'm following very closely, 100% a Beauty and the Beast AU with some delightfully tense twists. Uses out knowledge of canon and the fairy tale well to deepen the mystery and tension. Great realistic worldbuilding too, with a focus on the twins so far! Was last updated not too long ago, so! Eagerly awaiting the next update <33

Stuck on You is a Perc'ahlia classic that forever leaves us all drowning in fluff. The writing is so fucking funny and crisp, and Vex is an absolute riot running circles around this little nerd without any trauma of his own. It's only two chapters, but an insanely good feel-good read.

It was supposed to be a simple mission, in and out of Outworld. Perhaps bring in Shang Tsung unless that snake slipped trough their fingers.

Which he did.

And succeeded in wounding Johnny.

At first, Johnny thought nothing of it, thinking it was nothing but a small scratch, frowning at the almost maniacal smile Shang Tsung had, before teleporting away.

They came back to Earthrealm empty handed but Liu Kang congratulated them either way, that's when Johnny noticed that he was becoming hot, sweat beading on his forehead.

It was middle of a summer, sun high and Johnny was wearing his armor that clung tightly to his body, once he took it off, he should be good. Or so he thought.

The high temperature did not ease once he was back into more comfortable clothes and getting a hefty amount of cool water into him, Johnny even started to feel dizzy.

He went to the monks, where he managed to get only two words out, then everything went black.

Johnny came to in his room - after his vision cleared and the pounding headache became a bit easier to bear, Johnny slowly looked around, noticing Raiden reading a book.

Wanting to call out to him but his voice came out as s hoarse croak, Raiden noticed him all the same, head snapping up, Raiden placed the book away and was by his side, placing his cool hand on Johnny's feverish forehead. "Save your strength, Johnny. You have been out for a few days, the poison took quite a toll on your body."

Johnny opened his mouth again and Raiden shushed him, taking a glass of water from the nightstand, helping Johnny sit up a bit and placing the glass to his lips, letting him take just a small sip. "Easy, Johnny, easy."

Placing the glass back on the night stand, Raiden helped Johnny lay back down, standing up. "I'm going to let others know that you are awake. I'll send someone to keep you company." Raiden smooth away hair that stick to his forehead with a soft smile and he's out the door, leaving it open just a crack.

It wasn't long until hurried steps neared his room but stopped once they reached the door, the person behind them seeming to hesitate for a brief moment, then Kenshi walked it, Sento clenched tight in his hand, standing in the doorway.

Both of them were silent, until Johnny couldn't take it anymore. "Ken..." Johnny coughed and Kenshi was by his side in an instant, taking the glass of water Raiden had in his hand a minute ago, placing Sento near Johnny's bed and helping him sit up, giving him a sip of water.

Laying back down heavily, Kenshi wiped away the lonely tear that escaped, leaning his forehead against Johnny's, the latter sighing softly, weak fingers wrapping around Kenshi's wrists. "You bloody idiot." Kenshi murmured, sitting down on the edge of the bed, pulling away.

"Are you in pain?"

Johnny shook his head, still holding onto Kenshi's wrist, blinking slowly. He started to get really tired again.

"Hey." Kenshi reached over, gently shaking his shoulder. "Stay awake until the healers can look at you."

"Stay...."

"What did you say?"

"Stay..." Johnny gripped Kenshi's wrist a bit tightly, a tattooed hand covering his own. "I will, as long as I'm able to." Johnny's hand started to slip and Kenshi held it, his thumb gently stroking Johnny's knuckles.

"Thank you..."

"No need to. Just returning the favor."

After the healers came and gave Johnny herbs to drink and checked him over, they left him to rest, Johnny curling around Kenshi, resting his head in Kenshi's lap, the latter gently rubbing Johnny's shoulder.

To Pull The Trigger.  (Tentative Title)

A family fluff one shot of an AU, where Kid!Dante and Vergil manage to stick together, and end up meeting the Legendary Gunsmith Nell Goldstein.  That should be coming out around the beginning of July.

First things first, tell us a little about yourself.

Hey there! I'm Lexi (or some people may know me as Nell). I'm in my early 20s, recently graduated with a creative writing degree and certificate in publishing and still trying to learn how to navigate the real world! I love all things creative and when I'm not writing, I'm doing art or playing music or spending time with my pets!

How long have you been writing for?

I started taking writing seriously in seventh grade, but I didn't start writing fanfiction until tenth.

What inspired you to start writing for The Magicians?

The characters, for sure. I love the world and the story, but the characters are all so complex, so beautiful and ugly in their own ways, it's just thrilling to write about them regardless of context--especially the way they interact with one another.

Who is/are your favourite character(s) to write? What it is about them that makes them your favourite?

Margo 100%! Her voice just comes easily to me, and I love the depth of her character. We're all familiar with her armor at this point, and since I watched the show this past summer I've loved poking under the hood at all the soft mushy bits. She has an incredible capacity for love and my favorite thing is to drag that part of her out into the open.

Do you have a preference for a particular season/point in time to write about?

I generally prefer to write canon-compliant stuff, so my favorite point to write about is after whatever the last episode to have aired was! Easy between seasons, not so much during them. As for a particular season, I haven't actually written anything taking place during season 2, but I would really like to!

Are you working on anything right now? Care to give us an idea about it?

Yep, I'm working on Timeline 25 off the 39 Graves Project! I don't have a real title for it yet, but it's currently the longest thing I've ever written, so it's a lot of feeling around in the dark and experimenting for me. It's in two parts: Julia and Margo. They're two very different sides of the same situation.

How long is your “to do list”?

Not very long, but that's probably because I don't keep a real list, just random ideas floating around in my head! I do have three fics in progress that I may or may not ever finish, but other than that I have maybe two or three more ideas.

What is your favourite fic that you’ve written for The Magicians? Why?

"Just to Bring You Home." It's the longest oneshot I've ever written, and I did it based on an ask from the prompt exchange thinking it would be quite a bit shorter than it was. I love the dynamic (what little of it there is) between Margo and Kady, so I took it and ran, and it ended up being something I was really proud of!

Many writers have a fic that they are passionate about that doesn’t get the reception from the fandom that they hoped for. Do you have a fic you would like more people to read and appreciate?

I've only written three fics, but for this I'd say "So Far From Where I Want to Be." It's a His Dark Materials (or The Golden Compass) daemon AU, so that probably put people unfamiliar with it off, but I think daemons make character studies ten times more interesting, so I went for it! It was the first fic I wrote for The Magicians, and it's a little outdated now that we've had Margo's big episode in 410, but it's how I saw her and her relationship to sex, and it honestly probably always will be.

What is your writing process like? Do you have any traditions or superstitions that you like to stick to when you’re writing?

It's a struggle. It's hard for me to start working and it's hard for me to keep working, even if I enjoy the work, so if I want any hope of getting anything substantial done I have to completely block my internet. If I'm feeling extra focused I'll put on instrumental music in the background, but usually I need as few distractions as possible, and boy is that hard when your own mind is a distraction!

Do you write while the seasons are airing or do you prefer to wait for hiatus? How does the ongoing development of the canon influence and inspire your writing process?

This is my first year in the fandom, so most of my writing has been done during the season, but I definitely prefer to wait for hiatus and I'll feel a lot more at ease writing fic once the season ends! I'm not really sure how the development of canon influences me, though; I take note of new details about the characters, but since I tend to write based on the most recent episode or outside the canon timeline altogether, it doesn't affect me that much.

What has been the most challenging fic for you to write?

I know I'm still in the middle of it, but Timeline 25 by far. It took an amount of planning I quite frankly wasn't prepared for and several structural revamps, and even now that I know what I'm doing, it's a lot of work keeping everything consistent and flowing well.

Are there any themes or tropes that you like particularly like to explore in your writing?

I have a thing for feelings confessions. I just think the point at which characters admit to themselves and to other people who they love and how they love them is really interesting, so I tend to explore that!

Are there any writers that inspire your work? Fanfiction or otherwise?

I'm gonna be honest, when I read fanfiction I kind of...forget to look and see who wrote it? I leave kudos and comments, but I'm just now realizing I have no idea who my favorite fic authors are! The one I'm sure of is OurLadyOnTheOtherSide, because they're The BattleKing writer and I fell into the ship deep this season. I don't do a lot of reading in general anymore (it's bad, and I'm trying to fix it, but it's gotten a lot harder since high school), but as for published authors and screenwriters, Neil Gaiman, Philip Pullman, and Mike Flanagan are the ones who come to mind.

What are you currently reading? Fanfiction or otherwise?

I started "The Forest Queen" by Betsy Cornwell in January and haven't gotten past the first few chapters...oops. I have a whole pile of books I should be reading, but I haven't.

What is the most valuable piece of writing advice you’ve ever been given?

Don't stop to mull over small details or even whole sections if it's slowing you down or keeping you at a standstill. If you can't think of a word, put something random in brackets and search the document for brackets after you're done writing to get those words right. Highlight things you're unsure of to come back to later. Put a line break with the word "SKIP" in all caps if you can't figure out how to get from one scene to another. Anything to keep going! Doing these things has honestly saved a lot of my writing from collecting dust because of getting stuck on something insignificant.

Are there any words or phrases you worry about over using in your work?

I think very cinematically when I write, so I usually see and hear the characters pretty clearly, which means a lot of sighing and shrugging and glancing etc., because that's what human beings do. The thing about writing is that you've got to shave down some of those human things or it gets to be too much, and I struggle with that.

What was the first fanfic that you wrote? Do you still have access to it?

It was a crossover between Victorious and iCarly and...the Portal games. I think I could find it if I tried, but I'd really rather not.

3. Your favorite side quest:

Other than the kids? Probably Bizza! It was a nice little self-contained story, and he is a precious disaster. (Also probably the first time I was like “oh, yes, they’re going to adopt everyone, not just kids.”)

5. Favorite NPC:

FESS. I love Fess, he was such a good guy and he was so worried about us. Like, Ugg the Sagacious was great, but Fess! I feel like a lot of that oneshot just seemed to click when he was both bewildered by us and Very Concerned about this school’s applicant filtering decisions, and you brought him to life so instantly and so well!

also how dare you make me choose between my children, I love them all

God, I don’t even think I can choose! Maybe the Tiny Tieflings or Athan and Kian? I can’t piiiiiick. I have such a soft spot in particular for Devon’s premature responsibility, selflessness, and uncertain thoughtfulness, but also Athan and Kian have Mysterious Secrets, an interesting place in the region, and I am considering writing their backstory as a romance novel because y’all are horrible enablers? Sooooo.

8. Your favorite fight/encounter

My favorite encounter that we THOUGHT was going to be a fight was absolutely the rats. We were all exhausted and braced for another poorly balanced fight and then it was OUR BUDDIES, who we hadn’t seen in months, and they were so happy to see us? What good rats. The DM may have some points for that.

21. Have you ever regretted something your character has done?

Answering this from a DM’s perspective, totally. There have been some times where an NPC was trying to say or do one thing and I felt like I muffed it - it usually lead to interesting places anyway, but I’ve gotten frustrated with my shortcomings. The NPCs in question definitely also regretted saying the wrong thing the wrong way! I guess that’s kind of a weird way to approach the question, but like, is Paha Qasri capable of regret? (Probably not, he’s the epitome of the No Regerts tattoo.) Officer Kusuyo, though, is very relieved to NOT be regretting her choices re: interrogation rooms, so that’s a plus!
