Team Rocket in Alola Fixed

Here is my finished Alolan Team Rocket collection!

This is the continuation of my XY project, this time some crucial “bugfixes” for Team Rocket’s writing and pacing during Sun and Moon series. In SM they were written brilliantly with quality and creativity, unfortunately there were still some disconcerting issues when it comes to continuity between BW-XY / SM and SM / new series. Now they’re fixed and all those problems can be considered solved. The flow between SM and Pokemon 2019 is pretty nice too! (I managed to fix the awful Matori episode, now they don’t turn traitors so there is no reason for Giovanni to be angry with them).

SM056′s (The Strong Sleeper, Nekkoara's Secret!) Who’s that Pokémon? section was a reference to episode EP056 (The Ultimate Test) of the Original Series.

WHAT A GOOD EP In no particular order:

- FLAShBACK OF A SKULL GRUNT WHEN HE WAS A KID... BAbU... when younger, had girls fangirling his Betber but then they discovered Ilima's Eievui, crushed on said Eievui, and grunt was #forgotten, tried to won them back (WITH A ARBOK HOODIE, I WANT IT)... and failed. He hold a grudge since then. Ilima DOESN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING ABOUT IT ofc =D

- ;w; We had the mention of Yatoumori's special way of evolving in the preview... and!! Episode began with Bakugames against Nyaheat, Mao wondered out loud which Pokémon would be the next one to evolve. Togedemaru wanna!! (Sorry cutie.) But the kids thought that Pikachu would probably be next, so Satoshi gave the obligatory "he doesn't wanna!" explanation =DDD Done this series! Also nice thematic because later, when Ilima was explaining how things were with Eievui, Satoshi could relate in the "It's Great Without Evolving And Also We Have A Z-Crystal ;)))" departement, so the fact they (as in, Satoshi in particular) were going for a match worked - they were sharing something.

- Amongst the suggestions re:who is Ilima's 'mon in Poképroblem, one proposition was XERNEAS. Ilima plz. (Well, "Lillie please" since she was hosting.)

- So amongst the legends surrounding Ilima, being able to wake up (?) Nekkoara was apparently too much but not the rest pffff

- Their ways of jumping in the water with their 'mon!!! I freaked out for Garagara but :D Nice twist. Also Lillie did it!!! (And Mao was there for the cheering.)

- Re:cheering, the kids CHEERING FOR SATOSHI EXTRA-HARD to compensate the fact that Ilima's fangirls were loud, WHAT GOOD FRIENDS...

- "SIMPLE IS BEST" in Ilima's voice!!!

- So many gay/bi this epiode, especially in Skull grunts + Maamane. I'm glad.

- Anime!Ilima indeed went to Kalos and brought back galettes as omiyage, nice touch!

- Kukui mentioned the Alola League project to him so. PLOT (?!) =D

- Eievui's Z-move LITERALLY CALLS ALL THE OTHER EVOS FOR HELP like, the 'mon were in Alola and dropped everything to rush to help. Eievui, you gourou.

- The female Skull grunts being KO when Ilima did his Z-pose.

It was such a cute ep pfffft

Anime Ilima is really, really...boring. He doesn’t have any of his giddy passion for battling from the games or any other quirks, he’s just a calm, pretty anime boy who’s entire character is that he’s perfect, which CAN work (”Sakamoto Desu Ga” succesfully made a whole 12-ep show out of it) if it’s done in a funny or interesting way, but alas, that was not the case. I gotta be especially cynical here since most of the marketing for this (and the next) episode focused on Ilima being played by a guest starring live action actor, rather than his actual character, and that showed. They might’ve even intentionally given him mostly flat dialogue since Yudai Chiba might not be used to over the top cartoon acting (though I assume Sentai is pretty over the top too), basically they sacrificed the actual show for the sake of having a celebrity on the variety show that airs on weekends, and that is most definitely not the way to go. Animation didn’t have any stand out moments either. Tup’s backstory and Team Skull overall was fun, though I don’t like how they IMMEDIATELY prevent Satoshi and Ilima from battling, Team Rocket at least tends to have the courtesy of waiting a while before interrupting lol. Was also nice to see Kukui talking about wanting Alola to have its own league again. He invited Ilima to participate, if he’s gonna be an important rival later it would’ve been nice to build that a bit here. Apparently he took part in the Kalos League, has it been a year or already? :P Other things I liked: - The water diving scene. Kaki brought back the MASSIVOON and I loved how Lilie made a really safe and small jump and Mao was still there to cheer for her. - Satoshi’s friends cheering for him in order to counter Ilima’s cheerleading squad (only the girls tho, cmon Kaki and Mamane). - The good old unevolving Pikachu/Eevee parallel, Satoshi finally mentioned Pikachu’s decision not to evolve to his classmates, and Ilima later did the same. The girls were being amazed by evolution when Nyaheat was sparring with Bakugames, and were wondering who would be the next to evolve (Togedemaru seemed the most excited, alas twas not meant to be), I hope that means that someone actually will. :P - Satoshi and Lilie looking seemingly bored when Mao and Mamane were going on about Ilima’s amazing feats

until they heard about Ilima being able to wake Nekkoara up or something, and got real hyped, wondering what its eyes would look like and stuff.

Next episode looks super fun (Suiren in the preview is everything I’ve ever wanted)

besides the fact that it’s about Ilima, but hey, maybe I’ll enjoy him more there, I’m willing to give Sun&Moon the benefit of the doubt, I’m only harsh because I know it can do better~
