"nah, it's probably a lot of fun to go alone. more freedom to do whatever you want. like, for example, stopping to see the worlds biggest ball of yarn. not many people would be interested in that, but me? sign me right on up." he softly chuckles, "as you can see, i am quite the dare devil." at the mention of elias possibly working at the sanctuary, he smiles a bit more. "i gave myself away again, didn't i? darn. i swear i am not a paid sponsor by the animals to get people in for the possibility of a forever home or some treats." his tone was soft as usual but laced with a hint of playfulness. he nods as the other mentioned his irregular hours, "i can understand the hesitation. if you're a cat lover, a cat might be a better option. they are very independent, don't require much human contact, and normally enjoy their alone time." he pauses, laughing a bit, "okay now i do sound like the animals bribed me to be a paid sponsor for them"

he takes another sip at the mention of enjoying the champagne, though this time not making a silly face after. hearing the guy call himself boring had him shaking his head a bit before he answered, "i don't think you look boring," elias offered, warmly smiling. "in fact, i am interested in getting to know you a little more. though i don't want to take up too much of your time if you have friends around that you'd like to settle down with before the fireworks begin. i can certainly understand that."

Sam gave a soft chuckle as the other described his view of how a summer road trip should be / would be. "Going by yourself isn't so bad. But yeah, I have a feeling doing it with other people might be a bit better." The last road trip he did, he was doing it alone but that was mostly because he was moving. He then let out a chuckle at the response. Of all the people he brought up maybe wanting to get a dog, he had to mention it to someone who probably worked at the animal sanctuary. "You sound like someone who works there," he commented with a small smile before nodding, "No, it wouldn't be a bad way to start 2025. I have irregular shifts and I haven't had a pet in a while. Part of the reasons why I'm unsure if I should even though I've been thinking about getting one for a while."

He gave another nod as he took another sip of his soda. "No, I don't think they'd like them either." As far as he knew, most dogs weren't much of a fan of the fireworks, or any extremely loud noises. So, fireworks going off all night would probably be a terrible idea. Sam then let out a chuckle when the man offered to make a face and acted like he hated the champagne. "Much appreciated but it's not necessary. Feel free to enjoy the champagne. Being sober on New Year's Eve is not something new for me," he grinned back. At the suggestion that he should get a Shirley Temple for variation, he tilted his head slightly as Sam gave it a brief thought. "Maybe. Maybe I'll look less boring too with it," he joked before giving a shrug.
