------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You lean against the wall, pulling out your phone to call the one person you know can help.
"This is Tenant," she says, walking past her teams desks.
"Hey, girly."
She tilts her head, taking in your hushed tone. "You don't sound fine, everything okay?"
"Oh, yeah. I get into town for a brief meeting and then I'm being held down because some assholes want to-" You duck further into your hiding spot at the sound of footsteps. "Kill me."
Her shoulders tense up as she heads straight for the teams meeting room, already spotting them. "Where are you?" She places her phone on the table with everyone listening in, confused about their boss’s attitude. She gestures to Ernie to track the call.
"Abandoned mansion, I think?" You groan and grab your gun. "Jay, if anything happens-"
"Nothing's going to happen. We're going to find you."
"Not before they find me. I'm gonna have to split." You hang up and slowly step down the stairs. "Ernie?"
"I got her location but you're not going to like it."
"Why?"
"Isn't that where the drug dealers were?" Lucy chimes in.
"What is she doing there?"
"Based on the timeline of where the phone has been within the last two days, I'd say this is a kidnapping."
She sighs, knowing as soon as she saw that last name, she should have called you.
-
"Jesse, Lucy, you two take the front. Kai with me." Jane carefully steps ahead, searching all blind spots.
Kai grunts as his back hits the wall, bringing his arm up to elbow the guy punching his stomach.
Jane pulls the attacker off him and takes him down, giving Kai a few seconds to catch his breath.
In a team effort, they’re able to knock the man unconscious.
"We need to keep moving, we've checked every other room except the-"
The grunting and groaning of fighting drew the two into the kitchen.
You slide into the hallway, landing at her feet. You pull the emergency knife out of your boot and chuck it in the attacker's direction. "Tenant, get down."
She ducks as she and Kai pull you out of the doorway.
"Someone needs to go around back so we can catch this son of a bitch," you order the two.
"I'll go around back, you two stay here," Jane speaks to the two of you.
"I got nowhere else to go!" As soon as she rounds the corner, you look over your shoulder. "You cover me," you tell him.
He shakes his head. "I'm not letting you out of my sight."
"Keep sight on my back then." You charge into the kitchen and tackle down to the main guy who grabbed you from the airport.
Kai pushes himself off the ground, following you. He wonders how someone as risky as you could know someone as collected as his boss.
As soon as you're pushed out of the way, he grabs the guy and brings his elbow up before digging it into his back and then raising his knee to aim for his ribs.
Kai is kicked away, landing on his back, staring up at the ceiling while trying to catch his breath before he can help you.
You jump onto the guy’s back, wrapping your elbow around his neck.
You’re thrown over his shoulder and he set his boot on your neck. You struggle to keep the weight off you, kicking your feet the more you lose air.
"Freeze NCIS."
You don’t think you’ve ever been as excited to hear someone being arrested more than in this moment.
He removes his foot and places his hands on the back of your head.
"You plan on getting up any time soon?"
You shrug, "nah. I like the ground, it's my friend."
Lucy and Jesse glance at one another.
Kai holds his hand out for you to take.
"If I must." You grab his hand and misstep, gripping his hand tighter as his other arm wraps around your waist. "Woah, little lightheaded, thanks, cutie." You turn to your longest friend and ex-coworker. "Jay, we have a lot to talk about."
"Damn, right we do."
-
You two walk down the hallway, to the front door. "If it makes you feel better, I'm only here to see you and save my family. "
"What do you mean?" She wonders if you know what happened to him.
"He got involved in drug running, wanted out once he met his girl. They didn't like that, especially when they knew his sister was in the navy and had connections to take them down. I came down when they called, and said they needed my help. What's a sister to do other than come back from an early vacation to save them."
"Then you got grabbed and called me."
"Yeah."
"What else can you tell us about the people who grabbed you?"
You glance around the room, checking over each of her teammates. "They were assholes, " You blurt out.
Everyone but Jane tried to cover up their humor.
"Anything that can help us find the rest of the crew."
" Yeah, actually." You reach into your pocket. "This was in the trunk where they kindly shoved me."
"This matches the stuff we found a few days ago," Jesse adds. "Why was your brother involved in this?"
"He's an idiot and needed the money. Everybody knew he couldn't hold a job. Mom was hard on him once dad left and it was just her. He got into trouble, I was the one who saved him and was someone he looked up to."
"He wanted out and the boss wasn't happy. So, someone knew he called you and what happened then?" Jane asks.
"He disappeared," you tell them, not divulging into any more detail than that.
"You find him?"
"No." You run your hand over your face. "That's why I came here in person."
"We can help you."
"I don't want you or your team to get in trouble."
"You called to help and that's what you're getting."
You purse your lips. "And you all agree to this?"
"Anywhere Tenant goes, we go," Jesse tells you.
You let out a nervous breath. "Okay."
-
You should have listened; you should've stayed put when Jane told you to.
But you don't regret your decision though because going in and getting your brother's daughter is worth getting a fist in the gut, maybe you'll say this after (if you make it out).
-
Jane calls for you in the ear comm, "Pinstripe, what's your position? Hey, pinstripe. What's your position?" She sighs, "does anyone have eyes on her?"
Ernie calls Jesse, "uh- guys."
"What's going on Ernie? We're a little busy right now, we lost her."
"Yeah, thing is, her brother isn't there."
"What do you mean?"
"He's been dead since he tried getting out of, well, this."
"Then why is she here? Why drag us into it?"
"They killed his girlfriend when she got to the island and have been blackmailing her because they have his daughter."
"She never told us he had a kid."
"That's because he didn't want anyone to know in case this would happen. They were both trying to prevent the girl from getting involved. She thought she could save them both but when they killed his girlfriend, she knew it was only a matter of time before they came for her."
"Why not go for his sister?"
"At the time she was deployed but since then, she’s put in a notice for an early retirement and cleaned out her savings so-"
"They could run."
"Or put her up for adoption while she sacrifices her life for the family."
"Does Tenant know?"
"You were the first person I called because everyone else's phone is off... and I was hoping you would answer."
"Okay, anything else before we go in?"
"Nope, go save the day."
"Tenant?" He calls for her through the comm.
"What is it?"
"She's in there for her niece, her brother's been dead for the last four months. They killed his girlfriend two days ago."
"She's-" she sighs, "how many in there?"
"Four total, two hostages."
"On my count. Jesse, you go through the front. Lucy, side way. Kai, you're with me."
The two make their way round the back and slowly step towards the open back door and enter the room.
Jesse and Lucy have the two in cuffs by the time you noticed back up arrived.
You groan as another punch lands on your stomach.
Kai and Jane step behind him. "Hands up, NCIS.”
The guy doesn’t move.
“Drop your weapon and put your hands behind your head."
You're grabbed and held close to him, the cold metal pressed against your head. "Drop it or she dies, like her brother."
You clench your jaw at the words.
"You've already taken the family, isn't this enough?" Kai asks, taking a small step forward.
The guy hold you stretches his arm out, giving the two the opportunity to shoot him.
Jane steps towards the man and kicks his gun away before checking his pulse.
You stare up at the ceiling.
Jane gestures for Kai to stay with you while she checks on the others.
"You okay?"
"Just peachy, almost died twice but peachy keen."
"Yeah, but just think you're still here to see your niece grow up."
"I mean, yeah."
"That's something to look forward to."
The corners of your lips twitch, "you're right."
-
"You should have been honest."
"I could handle it."
"You almost died, twice."
"Maybe that was a distraction."
"I know how you work."
"You would have gotten my letter about my death plan."
"That's not funny."
"It's not meant to be but it does mean, I only trust you."
"And I appreciate the sentiment behind that, but this is about your life. You almost died today and lied to me."
"I did, I'm sorry about that but you understand why I did it."
"I do but that doesn't make it right. I want you to talk to me and trust that I can help you."
"I do, believe me, I do." You rub your hands over your face, "I just- I didn't want your family to lose you because you're there for them. I didn't- I didn't want to be the reason you died if you helped me."
She reaches across the table, holding your hand. "It would have been my choice and not your fault. You know we work together because we have each other's backs."
"I," you sniff. "I don't know what to say."
"We can start off with thank you and then... I can ask what's going on with you and Kai?"
You wipe the corner of your eyes before furrowing your brows. "What?"
"Kind of tall, perfect for you. You called him cutie, I think?"
"The one that pulled me up. He's adorable but not ready for a girl."
Jane purses her lips, tilting her head. "He is and I think he likes you."
"What makes you say that?"
She smirks, raining a brow. "He's staring at you from his desk."
You glance over your shoulder and watch as he quickly busies himself with fake paperwork before turning back towards you, catching your gaze, and turning away again. You sigh and move in the chair, turning back towards Jane. "He's not going to want to get with a single aunt."
"Never judge a book by its cover."
You roll your eyes, "I'm pretty sure I was the one who said that to you."
"And how does it feel to have your words thrown back in your face?"
"Not nice at all." You leave her to finish her paperwork and whatnot, deciding it's time to get your new life started. You grab the car seat and start walking down the walkway, stopping when your name is called. "Yes?"
"Wh- are you heading home now?"
"Actually, to a hotel, at least, until I find a home for us," you gesture to the sleeping girl.
"Right, right. Uh- well, did- did you have any plans for dinner?"
"Not particularly. Why? You offering?" You ask jokingly.
"I mean, if you really want to."
"Okay, before I say yes or no. I have one thing to say, and you need to listen."
"Okay."
"Do you really want to go out with me? Even if it's just for dinner because my life has changed, and I don't want to drag you into this."
"Hey, hey. I know things have changed for you but just because you're going to be taking on the role of a guardian, for a little girl who is lucky by the way, doesn't scare me."
The corner of your lips twitch, "good answer. I'm afraid we're going to need to do an at home dinner."
"That's fine by me."
"Hey," Jane sticks her head out of the door. "Alex and Julie are home right now, I told them I'm sending you over just for the night until you figure something out."
You narrow your eyes to her. "Convenient."
"Very, see you later. Kai?"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"Keep them safe."
He glances at you and gives his attention back to her. "Of course."
"That's what I like to hear."
-
You two share a nice meal together while figuring out how to take care of a growing baby. "I can see why my mom sent you two over."
You turn to Alex, "what makes you say that?"
"For one, the house has a happy vibe to it and what better place to have a first date than with her homemade spies."
"You tell her everything?"
He shrugs, "maybe, maybe not."
"You can't bargain with me, kid. I worked with your mother."
"Fine but don't expect me to keep quiet about this."
"I know we're going to have a long chat in the morning."
-
You gently close the door behind you, not wanting to wake up your niece. "Tonight was fun," you put your hands in your back pockets.
"It was."
"This suddenly feels awkward," you chuckle.
"A little but I think this was- today was crazy but I'm happy to have met you."
"Thanks for lifting me up when you did."
"It was no big deal."
You take a deep breath, "I guess I'll see you at some point tomorrow?"
He nods, "definitely."
The longer you stare, the bigger the smile stretches across both your lips.
You lean in, giving him a hug. "Take care and get home safe, okay?"
"Always."
You pull back and peck him on the lips before making your way back into the house.
You lean against the door, tracing your lips. "Oh god. Oh god. Oh god!"
"Well, that was adorable."
"Shut up, Jay."

Saint Tony (Tony DiNozzo x reader) part 1; fluff
You’d been working at NCIS for a few months. Gibbs saw you working for the police department. You were a detective that wasn’t taken seriously. You made observations and figured out things that the other cops didn’t, but you were so young, you were a girl. Nonetheless, Gibbs asked you to come work for him. And that’s how you met Tony.
You: I’m going drinking tonight with the girls.
You respond to his text. You hadn’t been talking to Tony for a long time, had only been friends since you started at NCIS.
Tony: Oh fun! What bar?
He replies he wasn’t gonna show up. He just wants to make sure you’re safe
You: Stevie’s
You say, a dc famous western themed bar/club known for its really good drinks and music but terrible violence. You had been fine in your past experiences, so you didn’t think much of it.
Tony: Taking a gun?
You: Mmm I thought about it but not tonight
Tony: Have a DD?
You: No we’re taking an Uber.
Tony: Well call me when you get home, or if you need anything
You: Okay thanks dad 😂. You joke.
Tony: Wow I care about you and all I get is sarcasm? Not even a promise of a kiss
You: Aww poor Tony… baby needs some attention.
Tony: I mean, I wouldn’t mind having you to myself tonight
You: Ooo maybe maybe.
Being with Tony seemed like such an amazing idea. As much as you wanted to play around before giving in, you were wanting to dive head first into him.
Tony: Well go have fun with those girls! Call me. Be safe (y/n).
The disappointment settled in as he changed into some pj pants and his hoodie. He heated up some leftovers and turned on a movie.
Time skip~
Tony was asleep in bed. Meanwhile a night at the bar turned to be you starving, drunk, and desperately searching for your phone. When you finally found it, you called Tony.
“DiNozzo” he says sleepily into the receiver end.
“Hey Tony. Would you mind picking me up?” You ask. Your words slurring into each other.
“Yea, I’m on my way” Tony sat up and swung his legs out of bed. Grabbing his keys and wallet he left the house. 15 minutes later Tony’s Mustang was running idle in front of the bar. You walked to the entrance where Tony was standing. You laid in his arms as he leaned against the door of his car, laughing.
“Tony Tony Tony” you say.
“(Y/n)” he laughed. “Let’s get you in the car”
“Okay okay” you were giggling. Body shaking against Tony’s as you did. Tony was smiling. You looked so beautiful. A black satin dress, your hair was messy now, a little mascara under your eyes, but that lipstick was unmoved. He helped you into the car, running to the other side to get in.
You had your head on his shoulder. He could feel your light breathing on his neck. While waiting at a red light he tried to look down at you, he found your eyes looking at him. You moved your body, a drunk hand lazily moving around his neck. He moved his face to looking at you completely as you laid your lips on his.
“Can I sleep with you tonight?” You whispered between kisses.
“Yes” he responds as he began driving to his apartment. Your hands all over his body. “(Y/n)” he moaned. He slowly started losing his composure. Dick hardening as he speedily drove to his apartment.
Tony was willing to admit that he wanted to have sex with you. But not drunk. He wanted you when you were sober. In his mind, if you love him sober, you’ll love him drunk. Not the other way around.
“Tony” you whispered in his ear.
“(Y/n)” he responded. Your hands still traveling around his body when he pulled up into the driveway. He parked the car and turned it off.
Once the two of you were inside, Tony took you to his bedroom. You drunkly got undressed. Tony had his back turned while you were pulling down your pants. He tossed one of his shirts on the bed.
“I’ll be back” he said and left the room retuning a few minutes later to see you sitting on the edge of the bed. “Brought baby wipes for your makeup” he shrugged crouching down to help you wipe it off.
You were smiling. You played with his hoodie strings while he cleaned off your face. Slowing down around your lips. You leaned down and kissed him. He kissed you back. Tony moved between your legs and you scooted back on the bed. The blankets already in disarray seeing as he was sleeping earlier.
“Tony…” you whisper palming him through his pajama pants. He shook his head, kissing you deeply.
He held your hips. Close to his.
“Fuck” he groaned as you moved against him.
He pressed his lips to yours one more time. You passionately kissed him back. He covered you with the blanket, as he noticed you were getting sleepier and sleepier.
“Goodnight gorgeous” he kissed you before cuddling next to you. You hummed in response.

Hi! For the fluff prompt thing, number 27 for Kacy (it reminded me of their date in 1x10).
Thank you for doing this, I'll take every possible bit of fluffiness in these sad times.
I hope you didn't think that I had forgotten about your Kacy prompt, I know it's taken me a while to fill it. I had an idea for this one as soon as I received it and it turned into something I really enjoyed writing. I hope you enjoy it too!
>>>>>
They are walking down the street towards Kate’s hotel when she grabs Lucy’s hand. It is warm and a little clammy, giving away Kate’s nerves as she pulls Lucy into the shadows. Kate pins her against the wall with her body and curls her finger under Lucy’s chin to lift her lips, impatient to kiss her.
They have only known each other for a few hours, but Lucy is already charmed by Kate’s dry sense of humour and the way she seems to know something about everything. When Kate had spoken about the view from her hotel suite, it had been Lucy’s suggestion that they go back there and Kate had been quick to say yes. Now, here she is, with Kate’s body crushed against her own, being kissed senselessly.
Lucy thinks her legs might buckle and it must be obvious, because she feels Kate’s hand tighten its hold of her own. She reciprocates, her other hand grabbing fistfuls of blonde hair, willing herself to stay on her feet because, God, she doesn’t want this kiss to end.
- x -
Two days later, she perches on the edge of the bed, her eyes following Kate around the room as she packs the last of her belongings in her suitcase. She doesn’t want to admit how hard and fast she has fallen for Kate after just two nights and three days of being on the island, so she doesn’t talk at all.
“I think that’s everything,” Kate says in a quiet voice as she zips up her case.
The bed dips as she sits down and Lucy puts her hands on each side of her thighs to balance herself.
“What time is your flight?”
“Four o’clock,” Kate says. “You wanna have lunch before I head to the airport?”
There is a hopefulness in her voice that tells Lucy that she, too, is struggling with their impending separation.
“Yeah, I’d like that,” Lucy says. “I know a great place for tacos on Waimanalo Beach that’s away from the crowds.”
Kate smiles. “Sounds perfect.”
She moves her right hand from her lap and rests it on Lucy’s left, her fingers slipping through Lucy’s, her palm resting on her knuckles. Lucy keeps her gaze on their hands, afraid to look up in case she breaks her facade.
“Lucy.”
Kate’s voice is low, almost a whisper, and, acting on impulse, Lucy launches herself into Kate’s lap, kissing her as if their lives depend on it. She straddles Kate’s thighs, their hands losing each other as Lucy drags her fingers through Kate’s hair. She feels Kate’s moan against her mouth and it spurs her on, pushing Kate into the mattress one more time.
- x -
The next time her hand is in Kate’s, it is a formal handshake six months later, when Kate introduces herself as D.I.A. Officer Whistler. Her face is stoic, her eyes blank, no sign of pretty smile that had knocked Lucy off her feet all those months ago.
Yet, when their palms touch, Lucy feels the same electricity that jolted through her core the first time she touched Kate - a hand on her thigh as she had laughed at something Kate had said, an innocent move that had almost caused Lucy to fall off her chair.
The feel of Kate’s hand in hers takes her back to that weekend, her mind flooded with memories - of the way Kate’s pants slipped off her hips so effortlessly to show off her toned legs; of the way sweat had pooled in the dip between her breasts as her back arched under Lucy’s touch; of the gasps and moans that had fallen from her mouth as Lucy’s mouth had explored every sensitive part of her body.
Lucy has to look away, knowing that if she looks into Kate’s eyes, the heat in her chest will rise to her cheeks.
- x -
Lucy wakes on Sunday morning to the sun on her face and she wonders for a moment if she forgot to close her black-out shades, until she realises that she is not in her own bed. She feels a warm breath on her neck, hears a gentle snore from behind her. There is an arm wrapped around her, her hand intertwined with another, a bare chest pressed up against her back. She can feel the ache between her legs, a familiar throbbing as she wakes up immediately aroused.
She starts to remember last night.
They met for dinner at a small restaurant away from the usual hotspots to ensure they had some privacy. Kate had been distant since she had shown up in the bullpit on Monday and been introduced by Jane as their new D.I.A. liaison, but then they had bumped into each other at the farmer’s market yesterday morning. Kate had been reluctant to accept Lucy’s invitation for dinner at first, but a flutter of Lucy’s eyelashes had broken down her walls.
Away from work, and after a couple of glasses of wine, Kate had relaxed into the woman that Lucy had met six months ago. Her terrible jokes still make Lucy laugh, her smile still makes Lucy’s heart skip a beat, the sparkle in her eyes still sends a shiver down Lucy’s spine.
Kate had been insistent that they set boundaries, that they can be friends but no more and, pushing down her disappointment, Lucy knew it was sensible. After all, she is still trying to prove herself to Jane and Jesse, and doesn’t need a fling with their D.I.A. liaison officer to put her job at risk. But then, as they were leaving the restaurant, Kate had tripped on a broken step, landing in Lucy’s arms - and moments later they were caught up in a kiss in the shadows, just like the night they met.
A soft grunt tells her that Kate is waking up and, even though she could lie in Kate’s arms all day, she rolls over so that her face is the first thing Kate sees when she opens her eyes.
“Hi.”
“Hi,” Kate returns, her eyes sweeping up and down. It doesn’t go unnoticed that she lingers on Lucy’s lips for a moment.
Lucy holds her breath, waiting for Kate to declare that this can never happen again - only to be surprised when Kate pulls her close for a morning kiss.
- x -
She doesn’t see it coming, the public display of affection when Kate reaches for her hand across the table.
“Hey, um, thank you for caring about how I feel about all this,” Kate says, with no hesitation in the way she moves.
After weeks of secrecy, just the simple gesture of holding hands in public feels like a step forwards for them. With a sly smile, Lucy manouvers her hand so that their fingers are interlocked with each other. Kate’s hand is soft and warm, and Lucy’s feels a flutter in her chest.
“I very much care.”
She cares more than she would dare admit to anyone. She adores Kate and all her quirks; she can’t get enough of the joy and peace that comes with being in Kate’s company and never wants it to end.
“But I think that, maybe next time…” Kate takes a long breath, building herself up to finish her sentence. “… we could go to a regular restaurant.”
Lucy isn’t sure she understands her. “Where someone could see us?”
Kate nods and Lucy’s heart swells. She knows what it means to Kate to put herself out there like that. It is not just a step forwards, it’s a leap.
- x -
Lucy is pretty sure Kate is going to try and reach out for her hand, and she takes a step backwards. For the first time since they met, she can’t bear the thought of Kate touching her. The sting of her lies hurts worse than the punches she took earlier during her undercover mission; the cut deeper, the bruise on her heart a deeper shade of purple than the one on her ribs.
Lucy was in love. Okay, she hadn’t said the words out loud just yet, but she thought it was pretty obvious. She lets Kate pick the movie. She always makes sure to go to Kate’s favourite coffee shop when it is her turn to buy breakfast, knowing it is where they sell the best blueberry muffins. She cancels her gym plans when Kate has had a tough day at work so that they can spend the evening on the couch watching trashy television.
Lucy was in love and she thought that Kate loved her too, but apparently she was kidding herself. And now, all she is left with is a broken heart.
- x -
It is a little after midnight when Lucy wakes up. They had left Jane’s party, too caught up in each other after their reunion to care about mingling with everyone else. With the promise of talking properly tomorrow, Kate had taken her to bed to declare her love in a less public way.
Lucy rolls over expecting to find Kate’s lying beside her and is surprised to find an empty space. She lifts herself onto her elbows and tilts her head, listening for any kind of sound of movement, but all she can hear is the soft lapping waves of the ocean from down below.
Slipping out of bed, she pulls a sweater over her head and pads across the bedroom and into the apartment. The doors are open and she feels a cool breeze envelope her, making her shiver.
Kate sits on the balcony, her knees pulled to her chest. She looks lost in thought and Lucy tiptoes towards her.
“Kate?” she says softly, so as not to scare her.
Kate turns her head and looks over her shoulder, the moonlight reflecting in her eyes.
“Hey you.”
She reaches out her hand, uncurling her feet from underneath her and inviting Lucy to sit beside her. Lucy follows willingly, folding her body into Kate’s to keep warm.
“What are you doing out here?”
“I couldn’t sleep,” Kate says, “and I didn’t want to disturb you.”
“I like it when you disturb me,” Lucy says with a teasing lilt in her voice. “What are you thinking about?”
“You,” Kate admits. Her glaze over. “These last few months without you,” she sighs, “they’ve been so lonely. And now…”
“Now?”
Kate smiles. “You’re here, just like I dreamed about every night while we were apart. I can kiss you…”
She leans in and presses her lips Lucy’s cheek.
“…and touch you.”
She lifts her hand to run the back of her fingers across Lucy’s cheek.
“I can hold you…”
She wraps one arm around Lucy’s shoulders and reaches out for Lucy’s hand with her other.
“And now your hand is in mine and I feel like the luckiest person to walk the planet.”
She turns Lucy’s hand over and lifts it to her mouth, kissing it chivaolrously.
Lucy feels like the lucky one. Lucky that Kate waited for her heart to mend and for her own walls to come down, lucky that they can give their relationship the second chance they both deserved.
She smiles, resting her head on Kate’s shoulder and nuzzling her nose into Kate’s neck, smiling when Kate reaches for a blanket and throws it over their legs.
“I love you, Lucy.”
Lucy can’t feel the cold any more, Kate’s words warming her whole body. She squeezes Kate’s hand.
“I love you too, Kate.”

Title: and when i’m back in chicago i feel it (another version of me)
Fandom: NCIS: Hawai'i
Relationship: Lucy Tara/Kate Whistler
Rating: General
Chapter Word Count: 7,088
Chapter: 5/5
[read from the beginning]
Chapter Summary: Lucy grumbles and scoots across the bed until she can throw an arm across Kate’s lap and bury her face against her hip. It’s far too early to function, and she wants nothing more than to curl up against her girlfriend and go back to sleep, 7:30 a.m. departure time be damned.
“You should probably think about getting up soon,” Kate says, somehow managing to sound both fond and admonishing all at once, “We have to leave for Chicago in an hour.”
“Don’t care,” Lucy whines, “Too comfy.”
“Come on, my sweet, I’ll make it worth your while,” Kate says, suggestion lacing her voice in a way that makes Lucy perk up a bit.
“Oh, yeah?” she asks, pulling back just enough to squint up at Kate in the faint blue light.
“Oh, yeah,” Kate says with a smirk, wiggling her eyebrows, “if you get out of bed right now, you’ll be greatly rewarded.”
Warmth pools in Lucy’s stomach and she hums in interest. “With what?”
“With,” Kate drawls as she traces a single finger down the side of Lucy’s face, causing goosebumps to break out over her whole body, “one last half hour of Whistler family time and a twelve hour trip home.”
Lucy groans and shoves her face back against Kate’s hip.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- You've known each other for ages (since you were younger) - You were the only one he kept in touch with when he left - He knew he could talk to you about anything and not be judged (unless he said something stupid, then you'd be on him) - You never knew why he kept you close when he and your cousin were closer - She always teased you about your crush on him but stopped when he left - You strategically bring him up when talking to her if you needed to after he left - You knew Jesse from Kai's team because of the kids after school programs - Kai always remembered you being on to go above and beyond for the community - When he first returned and Hina saw him, after punching him and he told her about you knowing he'd returned, you can bet she came after you - Then you happened to walk in when one of Jesse's kids wanted to visit their dad because they needed something, you can bet Kai was shook - Was not expecting you to know the team or being able to help if they needed it - He always kept work separated from you when he wanted to talk and have dinner - His dad teased him about you all the time (and he did the same to you when you came to the restaurant) - Imagine his surprise when he heard you've been the manager for his dad's restaurant - Lucy and Ernie always pushing him to ask you out - Jane and Jesse offering advice to help smooth things over or how to ask you out - He never knew you kept an eye on his dad, not until you got caught in the cross fire while he was on duty - He was the first one to help you with whatever you needed - Inoki loves you and this dog loves everyone but when he sees you (Kai has to fight for your attention) - He was pissed when Sola came into play and he flirted with you any chance he got with that stupid accent of his - If you wanted to hear an accent, all you have to do is ask, anyway- - The only reason you two went on a date was because everyone tricked you two - They all came up with an excuse to not show up at his dad's restaurant, leaving you two alone (even Sola helped) - Hina was happy the two of you made up your minds and decided to ask each other out - Jesse always teased him about future little ones - Lucy and Ernie tried to get him to talk about your relationship - Jane was there to offer advice - Whistler and C.C. were just there to lend an ear or call for backup if he needed it - Team barbecues were way more fun after that

Endings are sad. Let's talk about new beginnings.
Call it an ode to NCIS: Hawai'i and the love of my life (I mean soccer, sorry baby).
That's right, folks! It's a soccer AU! Jane, Jesse, and Lucy coach a division 2 men's professional team in the USL. Kate gets hired as the team reporter. Exactly what you'd expect ensues. If you liked the first 30 seconds of the pilot, then you'll love this fic.
In the first chapter, Kate meets the team, Jane knows more than she's telling, and Lucy loses her hat. Vibes are a cross between "Starting Over" by Chris Stapleton and something closer to this:
