what would the characters birthdays be in the real world/modern au? i know they have their birthdays in the blest calendar, but i just want a real day to celebrate my favs irl!! <3
Aw, anon! 💖 As you said, the Shepherds’ “real” birthdays are in the codex calendar in the game, but for you, I’ll dig through my 10+ year notes to find what I put for their modern!AU birthdays (before I went down the deep rabbit-hole of ✨ worldbuilding ✨)!
Note: these will not always line up with their Blest equivalent months and birthdays, so please no one try and compare them because it’s not going to work, lol.
Blade: January 5
Trouble: Early to mid July (anywhere from July 5th-23rd is good for him, he technically doesn't really know when his exact birthday is anyway. My earliest notes on him still use Zellea as his birth month lol, so let's say like July 11)
Tallys: February 20
Shery: February 13
Riel: September 15
Chase: October 13
Red: November 1
Ayla: June 26
Halek: December 12
Briony: March 7
Lavinet: April 9
Caine: May 30
Prihine: March 23
Croelle: October 6
Mimir: December 30
#if: Shepherds of Haven#I find it mildly cute that the Naveen cousins have the same sign#also Capricorn represent!! Mimir and Blade and I are in the Capricorn club#long post#fun fact for anybody who reads my tags: I had a specifically sapphic themed astrology book in high school#alas it seems to have disappeared. big shame. I enjoyed that book.

Alastor watching the princess and the frog by Disney ? It’s in lousiana in the 1920s so it would be perfect for him
absolutelyyyyyyy the princess and the frog is one of my fav disney movies from characters to soundtrack, so this one’s a bit longer. also kind of a part two but also not exactly
history ramble below
also i did some light research on new orleans history because if im gonna write alastor i should know. doggy i love me some history and this history is rich, depressing at times but also rich and meanful to know so i thought id share a little. from talking about the free the peoples movement, to the way women got their rights to their hair back that they didn’t have when enslaved only to have a law banning natural hair and hair wraps and so they decorated the wraps and used coloured fabrics effectively rendering the law useless, to the wealthiest black man of the 1870s for being a prospering business owner, the origins of how voodoo and other spiritual practices mingled perfectly with the pre established voodoo and how voodoo was predominantly black women who were highly respected, the first black man to be govoner in the united states in only 1871, a black woman named Rose Nicaud who opened the first coffee stand in 1800 and made enough to escape being ensalved. then there’s lighter topics like some of the jazz history and how it made various black stars like louie armstrong, and also how the language mingled to make the cajun french that’s sadly dying out, to the architecture that flourished through the varying clashes in culture between african, european, native and haitian peoples. if it’s not too upsetting to read i definitely suggest this page to have an insight on some of the quick history on new orleans, i enjoyed learning about the strength that many had during this time.
United teachers of new orleans < page i was reading
Warnings: jealous Al teehee, reader crushes on naveen and dr facilier (don’t mind me just projecting), cuddling, swearing, alastor doesn’t really know emotions good, fluffy banter, just some ushy gushy mushy tushy
Word count: 2k
The movie Bambi didn't even finish playing before the patrons started to filter out of the room heading to bed. First to go was Vaggie carrying a sleeping Charlie, Sir pentious promptly following along telling his fussy egg boys it was long past their bed time. Then it was Niftys turn to disappear, however she never said a goodnight only sped off leaving behind her vacant swishing rocking chair.
Then once Angel and Husk left, you had decided to just call it quits on Bambi, Alastor hadn't moved much or objected to you turning off the movie, only watching the projector as you scrolled through the app.
You stopped on the princess and the frog, grinning toward Alastor he sighed, getting a glimpse of your mischief from the corner of his eye. "Now what's this about darling?" Turning your body towards his fully facing him, you waited for his gaze to finally meet yours, and reluctantly it did. "Allow me to introduce you to one of, if not, thee best disney movies of all time; the princess and the frog," Alastor's finger rose as he took a breath to speak, but before he could say a word you interrupted him.
"Yes I know princess yuck, whatever Al. It takes place in New Orleans, its main focus is actually in the poorer area with the shotgun houses, and throughout the movie Tiana, the princess, travels through the bayou, oh! With Naveen one of the hottest princes, also it takes place in the twenties, oh!-" Before you could continue Alastor gently gripped your cheeks, your lips puckering involuntarily as he did so."What did you just?"
"Takes place in the nineteen twenties?" You asked, voice muffled from Alastors grip on your cheeks. "Before that dear." Your eyebrows raised looking at Alastor not trying to hide your confusion. "Naveen? One of the hottest princes?" Alastor hummed, booping your nose. "Yes dear, that."
"Yeah. duh dude he's one of the few princes that deserve the princess, he changes for Tiana, he's charismatic, funny, but nevermind that back to what i was saying. There's varying New Orleans culture littered through that might make you feel closer to home, all the music is jazz obviously." Opening your mouth readying to rant on about the Voodoo man that you adored, Alastor hushed you with his finger up to your lips.
"My sweet dear, I will watch this silly picture show so long as you stop rambling about it." Alastor wasn't truly done with hearing your rambling, he was enjoying hearing that you were such a fan of something that centred so close to home when it came to him however if he was going to watch it he rather not have it spoiled.
Giddily you clasped your hands together and hit play, your love for the film and excitement to see Alastors reaction may have made you slightly over enthusiastic just a bit. As the movie began you curled your feet up onto the couch, inching yourself closer to Alastor looking up to his face and back to the movie.
When Naveen got introduced on screen you accidentally gripped Alastors arm tightly shaking him. "My mannn~" You squealed happily, letting go of Alastor once you heard the unmistakable rattle come from him, a growl sounding out of his chest. You didn't pay much attention to him though, instead turning back to the projector and backing off Al. However Alastor wasn't too frustrated with the fact you touched him, but because you were being so ushy gushy over some fake man.
He was easily the same if not better than Naveen. Alastor was charismatic, charming, he could sing, play instruments, he didn't quite understand why you were so particularly interested in this Naveen. Hell, even Alastor had a similar outfit back when he was alive, he could've been Naveen when he was alive.
You didn’t notice Alastor having a mini tantrum in his own world, you were too engrossed in the movie. Suddenly you’ve gripped him again, pointing at the screen. "The shadow man, Al this is your kin!" You egged laughing maniacally at your own words.
Alastor’s face however brightened at the display of the voodoo man. "One of my fav songs." You whispered as Dr. Facilier began singing on screen. Cocking his head to the side Alastor looked down to you bouncing along to the song. "This fellow sounds similar to Husk." Alastor mentioned, watching intently at the shadows that crawled around Dr. Faciliers room, much like Alastors own shadows. "Yeah it really does sound like Husk. Strange, anyways, Dr. Voodoos hot too." Alastors static buzzed around the room and you had to hold back a giggle at the frustrated look on his face, despite the smile it was obvious he wasn't too happy.
"What's up Al, not liking the movie?" Static crackled around the two of you as you questioned him a little slyly as you could tell he wasn’t hating the movie. “No dear, it’s pleasant in comparison to some things i’ve grit myself through, however,” He paused watching you ogle at both the Dr and Naveen. “I can’t understand what’s so great about this Naveen you like. He’s a fool,” You scoffed at Alastors distaste for Naveen, you didn’t mean to make him feel frustrated at your adoration for the characters but it was endearing to see.
“What’s not to like about the man?” You state confidently but Alastor simply shrugged while humming indifferently. A beat of silence passed, the ending of the song playing out of the projector. “It’s just that,” Alastor started up again after a moment of silence, turning his body to face you hands folded in his lap politely. “You clearly have the odd reaction towards these gentlemen and I can't see why,” To give him credit he did look genuinely confused, and just as you were going to speak up he interrupted.
“And please do not say it’s because he is funny, charismatic, musically talented or sweet because I happen to hold all those same qualities!” He finished, hands thrown in the air like he said something especially spectacular. You had a soft smile present on your face watching him work through the sentence theatrically. “Well, Al you are, maybe i think the same about you?” Record scratch.
You cackled at his frozen state, patting his arm gently, cooing that you were only kidding, you turned back to the TV and the two of you decided to leave it at that.
Later on in the movie, when Tiana and Naveen are with the alligator going down the bayou singing about being human, you stared over at Alastor, your heart thumping at the sight of him. His arms were resting along the back of the couch, legs splayed out comfortably, posture sunken in, and his eyes lidded with a closed calm smile. His ear twitched and soon his eyes moved from the movie to you, quirking a questionable eyebrow at you.
Feeling slightly embarrassed for eyeing him up you tried to play it off by asking him a question. “Is there bayous in New Orleans, is that real?” You ask kinda dumbly, of course they were, you scolded yourself. Alastor didn’t seem to mind though he smiled widely, a chuckle reverberating out of him. “Why yes dear! Of course, I personally never lived close to the bayou, but it surrounds New Orleans, and I have been. It’s quite beautiful during a sunset but there’s tons of alligators.”
You leaned forward interested, but it seemed he’d stopped to refocus on the screen which you wouldn’t complain about. You not so discreetly leaned into his torso, arm still on the back of the sofa behind you, and thankfully he didn’t move when you leaned your body into him, instantly decompressing into his side.
They got to the scene where the gang is on the boat going through the bayou, the crocodile fitting in and playing jazz, when you turned to look up at Alastor seeing him already looking down at you. “What’s up?” You asked, watching as he scanned your face. “Well dear you’re just reminding me of home tonight, it would’ve been interesting to be able to show you where I lived, where I worked. Y’know when i did radio, most people didn’t know what I looked like so it came as quite a shock to some that I wasn’t what they imagined. Some were cruel, but my mother always taught me to be respectable if not respectful, so I managed to keep my grace.”
You giggle at his explanation watching him move his hand in all different directions, the radio host coming into play just at the mention of his job. “I’m flattered you would’ve wanted to show me your home n stuff, i wish it were possible.”
On the projector in front of you two, was the scene between Naveen and Tiana’s first date, where Naveen was going to propose. “They always get married so fast in these movies, you spend three days as a frog and suddenly it’s eternity!” You exclaimed humorously, Alastor scoffed an array of instrumental sounds electronically sounding out from him. “My dear it was common back in the day to get married quick, none of this lollygagging.”
You rolled your eyes blowing out air. “Would you get married to someone you knew for three days?” Alastor hummed, tapping his finger against his chin in exaggerated thought. “If it were you, perhaps, otherwise i’d attempt to lengthen it just a bit.” He reviled in the sight of you bashfully turning your head away, shy at his broad flirt. “You’d marry me, after only three days?” You questioned in disbelief, he hummed wrapping the arm he once had behind you, around you pulling you into him.
“Well I found you to be quite a treat the first day i met you, and decided i wanted to be around you for many days on. Is that not marriage worthy?” This confession shocked you slightly. You never expected him to say that he preemptively planned your blooming friendship nevermind that he equated that to being worth marriage. The movie played on in the background as you both watched each other’s faces.
“To me, dear,” Alastor started a smug smile stretching across his cheeks replacing the calm smile that stayed for so long. “It seems like you may unconsciously feel something towards me too.” Jaw dropping you stared at him confused. “What?” You scoff but Alastor only looked smugger.
“Come now, New Orleans centred movie? Jazz, cooking, even that dumbo man Naveen speaks french loves jazz music and dancing, oh and of course the ever so obvious voodoo, it’s almost like this movie is me, haha.” He laughed manically, eyes crossing as his body shook. It was quite the egotistical assumption on his part, but he wasn’t wrong.
You put it on for him but it seems for you too, you paid more attention to him half the movie, and you’ve been more interested in knowing real life facts about his home during his time then what story the movie was trying to tell. Maybe he was right, but even so what did him pointing it out accomplish? “Well that’s why i wanted to show you it, it’s got many aspects you’re involved with in it.”
You mentally gave yourself a pat on the back for such a good save, however Alastor was keen and knew you long enough to catch your lies. “Sure dear, sure.” Al gave you a condescending pat on the head and you speedily swatted at him. The movie played on you once more captivated by Alastor’s reactions more than the movie itself, you’ve already watched it enough to know.
Tucked under Alastor’s arm, warm and comfy, you barely caught the sound of Alastor huffing out chuckles, gazing up towards the projection you playfully hit him. “Don’t laugh at his death!” That only made Alastor properly laugh, dropping his head back, neck cracking grossly. “My dear it was a lightning bug in love with a star! He got stepped on that was hilarious!”
Sounds of prerecorded laughter sounded out with his natural laugh, you didn’t actually care that he found it funny, only pretended too as you gave him a disapproving glare. As the movie closed in you felt a weird gloom wash over you, it was nice being alone with him by his side while you two relaxed. You didn’t want it ending, but alas Tiana and Naveen kissed turning them human, with the reveal that with marrying Naveen, she became a princess effectively breaking the curse, and the movie started with the end song.
“Well dear I did enjoy that, the voodoo was pretty boringly unrealistic, but it’s for children. I did enjoy the mentioning of foods, very common dishes even I enjoy, like gumbo. But alas it was still a pathetic little movie about mortal love.” Standing to his feet when he finished speaking, Alastor dusted himself off and snapped his fingers making all around you revert to what it was before movie night.
“Do you not want to be in love?” You ask softly partly hoping he didn’t hear you as by the time you stood from your spot, you regret saying it. “Well I certainly haven’t looked. Why disappointed?” Alastor bent himself backwards to look at you since you stood behind him readying to exit. Looking down into his eyes you felt hazy, maybe a little drunk on desire as you gently caressed his cheek. “Maybe I am,”
“Darling.” Alastor said sternly as he cracked himself upward, he bent down facing you this time and before he could talk you once again interrupted. “Can’t blame me can you?” Alastor seemed momentarily taken aback, gazing around lazily trying to collect his thoughts. “My dear, I'm uncertain with emotions like this as well as expressing them, love is foolish, however… if you were to tell me ‘i love you’ i would say it back.”
It confused you, what Alastor said, you couldn’t tell if he was mocking you and telling you he was going to lie about his emotions to spare you, or if he was egging you on attempting to get you to tell him your true feelings. Regardless you swallowed down any worries for the future instead focusing only on the now, and looked deeply into the soft red glow of his eyes.
“I love you Al,” With a cheeky smile you watched him stutter, the visible shock was clear, and you wondered if he actually expected you to say that. Just as you began to worry you fucked up, he bent down to your height. “I love you too my dear,” And with that he gave you the chastised kiss on the lips, before standing to his full height materialising his microphone. “Got to go dear! Duty calls!” And with that he seemingly disappeared into the shadows, leaving you to waddle tiredly to your room. Little did you know that Alastor whisked himself away to have a minor panic attack in the safety of his radio tower, not believing himself and his broad actions, nor could he believe the pounding in his chest and flutter in his heart.

Headcanon - Love and Deepspace boys as Disney Princes
This came to me out of nowhere but was also quite fun and challenging to write, since the boys are such interesting characters. Do note that not all the "princes" are official princes, I just used that term because it's quick and easy. I hope you'll enjoy this and if you have other opinions, please let me know! I would love to hear your thoughts on this
English is not my first language, apologies in advance. The gradient banners are made by me as a bit of try out to see how they look. If you wish to use them you can do so if you credit me. Thank you and happy reading <3
Xavier
Xavier was a bit of a hard one to really pin down. So, I would say a part of him reminds me of Shang Li. Both are trained in combat, and take time to warm up to you, both are also quite loyal to you.
Due to Xavier’s strength and from what I have seen in his memories sort of boy next door vibes and cuteness I will also say he reminds me of Hercules. Hercules has that sort off cute awkwardness to him that I feel sometimes Xavier also has. In addition to that, Hercules would and has almost sacrificed himself to save Megara which in my opinion is similar to Xavier’s decision to leave his home, not knowing what could happen, to save his love.
Zayne
For the most part he gives me Robert from Enchanted vibes, a bit more reserved and a tad cynical while also being frank. However, I also think Zayne is partly Prince Philip, brave and loyal; a prince who charges into battle to save his love which I think fits Zayne. Also fun fact Robert’s last name is Philip! Both also fought dragons lol, something Zayne would definitely also do to save you.
I also believe there is a hint of general Shang Li within him, both incredibly devoted to their work and also very good in their respective areas. Also, just like Zayne, Shang Li at first seems a bit cold but once you get to know him better you’ll see just how soft and sweet they truly are even if it’s not always immediately noticeable.
Rafayel
Sylus
Hear me out, prince Edward from Enchanted. I know, another character from Enchanted -sue me- but I do think he has similarities to prince Edward. They both lean on the dramatic side and I don’t doubt for a second that Rafayel would also sing ‘A true love’s kiss’ in public. Edward converses with a chipmunk, Rafayel converses with sea animals. They're practically twins.
The other prince I think Rafayel resembles is Cinderella’s prince, prince Henri, but the version from the third movie. A believer in true love and also a tad dramatic, Rafayel would also jump out a window to go after his one true love. He also, just like Prince Henri, searched quite some time for his love and had to go through quite some trouble to find you.
This might be unpopular but he reminds me of Dimitri from Anastasia: witty, sarcastic, smart and from my pov both in a way underestimate their love interests. Just like with Dimitri does is take some time for Sylus to ‘soften’ a bit, in the beginning he was a lot harsher yet from more recent memories we see a very different side to him.
I also think he has a touch of prince Naveen, with how they’re both a bit reckless and love to spend money. Unlike Naveen though I don’t believe Sylus’ is much of a ladies man, in my opinion he would dislike such superficial relationships.
Lastly, I think he also has a touch of prince Adam/the Beast, both a bit coarse in the beginning yet just like the other princes Adam softens up and becomes a big supporter of Belle similar to Sylus with you.
Caleb
Caleb gives me a mix of prince Eric and Phoebus. Eric because both are in a way adventurous, Eric more so I’d say and also both are big time romantics. Eric believes in true love and Caleb believes you are his true love. Both are also very kind, Eric takes in a complete stranger and allows Ariel to stay in his castle while providing her all she could need without asking anything in return and Caleb similarly looks out for you, cooks for you and tries his best to make you happy. He wants to make sure you want for nothing.
I think Caleb also resembles Phoebus because both are able to keep a straight face but also quick to crack a joke. Also both are soldiers, al be it both aren’t exactly doing it super willingly. Phoebus does it to survive and Caleb had no say at all. I also think he has hints of Kristoff, although both are kind I do get the vibe that Caleb can come across as very cold just like Kristoff in the beginning. With Caleb this is most noticeable when he’s a colonel and the person that helps warm him up is obviously you.
Next headcannon: lads as the different types of Kens?

Everything We Know About Maldonia
Ah, Maldonia. It's mentioned a few times in TPatF and despite Naveen literally being Maldonian, we know very little about it. Or do we? In this post I will summarise everything we know about Maldonia and I hope to, in follow -up posts, propose a location for it, as well as a cultural foundation for it, based on everything we currently know
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What Do We Actually Know
From the Movie:
-It's a "small yet golden kingdom in an obscure unheard of part of the globe" as stated in the newspaper we see. Also the same newspaper features a photo of Naveen on a background which perhaps could be Maldonian architecture
-Naveen "[comes] from two long lines of royalty" - Dr Facilier during Friends on the Other Side, it is unknown whether the union between the two lines created a brand new kingdom of Maldonia or Maldonia was a preexisting kingdom that became enlarged
-The (possibly simplified) royal crests for the two royal lines are as seen below, one with a teal wall with a red looking sky and perhaps red outlines of mountains, and the other with also a teal wall but with a grey sky and a grey outline of waves. Both as seen on Naveen’s first tarot card from Dr Facilier's reading
-The princes are named Naveen (a name common throughout all of India and its many languages) and Ralphie (a diminutive of Ralph which has a common usage in the Germanic languages)
-Naveen has a unique accent (in meta, a combination of his voice actor's natural Brazilian Portuguese accent with French), due to being a native speaker of Maldonian
-Naveen, in addition to Maldonian and English, also has a proficiency in French as seen in Ma Belle Evangeline
-"Across the sea" - Dr Facilier during Friends on the Other Side, so definitely not part of North America
-Here is a potential gross (not gross like ew gross) structure of the castle, also seen on Naveen’s first tarot card, this also potentially implies that Maldonia is on an island as it looks to be surrounded by water
-Lawrence, Naveen’s valet, is British
-Some Maldonian words eg Di Fraggi Pruto, a constructed language with strong surface level similarities to English and romance languages
-"East of the sun and west of the moon" as stated by one of the directors in the commentary, aka it could be anywhere
-Polished marble is part of the Maldonian castle's architecture
-In the Stop and Smell the Roses deleted scene, Naveen states that between 28 and 29 in Maldonia (referred to with its earlier name Maldakesh) there exist two numbers twenty-badini and twenty-caldonsez. However it is unknown whether this is actually true, still considered canon, or if Naveen was simply messing with Tiana
From the Books:
-In Tiana's Perfect Plan, a servant of Maldonia who aids Tiana is named Raha, which is an Arabic name
-In the Something Old, Something New, we see that the Queen's helpers are of various ethnicities
-In Tiana's Winter Blues, Naveen confirms that there isn't a cold winter season in Maldonia and we can see some Maldonian architecture in a photo
-" In Maldonia, we always left a little plate of cakesbout for Grandfather Frost" - Naveen in the Pocket Princesses comic In with the New
-In the Palace Pets story (yes, yes I am going to use Palace Pets) Bayou, the Little Pony Who Lovee to Rance, we can see what appears to be part of the Maldonian royal garden and hills of palm trees
From the Ride:
-In the Tiana's Bayou Adventure ride's queue, we can see a Maldonian cookbook Meals of Maldonia authored by someone called Nio/Nia/Nib Maldonado, a surname which seems very Portuguese/Spanish
-As confirmed by the ride's character model sheets, the Queen wears a sari and in other appearances such as the wii game she commonly wears a brooch
-The imagineering team refers to Maldonia as a "country of likely of mixed race"
From Miscellaneous Sources:
-According to Randy Haycock in an online interview, he looked at various South American, Mediterranean and Indian models to design Naveen’s appearance
-In the first and only concept art we publicly received from the now scrapped Disney+ Tiana series (rest in peace), in the reflections of the puddles on the ship that Tiana's on, we can see more of the aforementioned palm trees
...and that's all I've got!
If you're curious about any of the sources, be sure to message me however you want, and also be sure to add anything that I've missed!
ACOSF 1-5
Chapter 1:
“Feyre wants you at the house.” “Which one?” Nesta said, frowning at the foot he’d wedged in the door. “She has five.”
WHY DO Y'ALL NEED FIVE MANSIONS??
Cassian said at last, “Feyre is High Lady. She’s busy running the Night Court.”
High Lady of Velaris but ok.
He took the invitation to survey her: long bare legs, an elegant sweep of hips, tapered waist—too damn thin—and full, inviting breasts that were at odds with the new, sharp angles of her body. On any other female, those magnificent breasts might have been enough cause for him to begin courting her the moment he met her. But from the instant he’d met Nesta, the cold fire in her eyes had been a temptation of a different sort.
I hate men.
There had been some days in the past year when she hadn’t even bothered to take the time. Some days when she’d climbed into the icy water, not feeling its bite but that of the Cauldron’s dark depths as it devoured her whole. As it ripped away her humanity, her mortality, and made her into this.
"Nesta and Elain are so lucky!" Are they? Are they really?
It had taken her months of battling it—the body-tensing panic that made her very bones tremble to be submerged. But she’d forced herself to face it down. Had learned to sit in the icy water, nauseated and shaking, teeth gritted; had refused to move until her body recognized that she was in a tub and not the Cauldron, that she was in her apartment and not the stone castle across the sea, that she was alive, immortal. Even though her father was not.
Her and Elain deserve better. Ianthe and king of Hybern, burn.
Even their gods-damned father had a portrait on the wall along one side of the grand staircase: him and Elain, smiling and happy, as they’d been before the world went to shit.
Not the deadbeat getting a painting.
“Though I bet it’s hard to look good,” Amren went on, “when you’re out until the darkest hours of the night, drinking yourself stupid and fucking anything that comes your way.”
Why is this short bitch speaking? HYPOCRITE, Y'ALL BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS!
Rhys said, “You are going to stay. You are going to listen.” She let out a low laugh. “You’re not my High Lord. You don’t give me orders.” But she knew how powerful he was. Had seen it, felt it. Still trembled to be near him.
MOTHER NESTA🙏🏾
“Keep your self-righteous do-gooder nonsense out of my life.”
What did Catelyn Stark say?
Chapter 2:
The eldest of the Archeron sisters had a talent for getting under everyone’s skin.
Me and Nesta twinning🤞🏾
Cassian had been eating an early breakfast with them this morning when Rhys had gotten the bill for Nesta’s night out. When Rhys had read each item aloud. Bottles of rare wine, exotic foods, gambling debts … Feyre had stared at her plate until silent tears dripped into her scrambled eggs.
GOOFY, Y'ALL ARE RICH
It had required all of Cassian’s training, every horror he’d endured on and off the battlefield, to keep that same crushing sorrow from his own face.
It's just money, calm down. You're also rich?
Amren had suggested a few days in a dungeon in the Hewn City, but Feyre had simply said that the human world would be more than enough of a prison for someone like Nesta.
The place that y'know, tortures its women and sells them at the highest bidder?
“You spent five hundred gold marks last night!” Feyre exploded, shooting to her feet to pace in front of the hearth. “Do you know how much money that is? Do you know how embarrassed I was when we got the bill this morning and my friends—my family—had to hear all about it?”
YOU ARE RICH! YOUR MATE IS RICH! YOUR NEW FAMILY IS RICH!
“It is about how it reflects upon me, upon Rhys, and upon my court when my damned sister spends our money on wine and gambling and does nothing to contribute to this city! If my sister cannot be controlled, then why should we have the right to rule over anyone else?”
Bitch, you rule over Velaris. You don't rule over Illyria, you don't rule over Hewn City. Only Velaris. You certainly don't care about the women in either region and you wear the wings of the women who get theirs clipped.
Chapter 3:
He braced himself. He’d been anticipating this talk since he’d spent four months with the Illyrians, soothing the jagged edges amongst the war-bands, making sure the families who’d lost fathers and sons and brothers and husbands were taken care of, that they knew he was there to help and to listen, and generally making it very fucking clear that if they rose up against Rhys, there would be hell to pay.
And they still wonder why Illyrians hates them. They're your people, why do you feel superior over them?
Rhys threw him a wicked smile. “It’s not the fighting I don’t want them hearing.”
Kill him.
He and his brothers had put a good deal of distance between the stupid youths they’d been—fucking any female who showed interest, often in the same room as each other—and the males they were now. He wanted to keep it that way.
Why do men? Nesta bangs random men and it's wrong but they can do shit like this?
Chapter 4:
Mor sipped her tea, the portrait of elegant innocence. “We’d be better off throwing Nesta into the Court of Nightmares. She’d thrive there.” Cassian clenched his jaw, both at the insult and the truth. “That’s exactly the sort of existence we’re trying to steer her away from.”
Elegant innocence, my ass. Whoever says Mor is a girl's girl has no frontal lobe. Cassian, Mor, and Amren, go to hell challenge!
He again let himself admire her perfect face. Beyond the disastrous consequences for Mor after their night together, the fallout with Rhys afterward had been awful, and Azriel had been so furious in his own quiet way that Cassian had quelled any further desire for Mor. Had let lust turn into affection, and all romantic feelings turn into familial bonds. But he could still admire her sheer beauty—as he’d admire any work of art. Even though he knew well that what lay inside Mor was far more lovely and perfect than her exterior.
The inside is worse but go off I guess. Also a "brother" wouldn't talk about his "sister" like that. Cersei and Jaime come again.
Mor took another bite from her pastry. “Lucien can’t be entirely trusted anymore.” Cassian started. “What?” “Even with Elain here, he’s become close with Jurian and Vassa. He’s voluntarily living with them these days, and not just as an emissary. As their friend.”
Damn, can't a man have friends?
Chapter 5:
His hazel eyes guttered. “Not eating won’t bring your father back.”
Acting like a dick won't bring your mother back. Oh my! Who said that?
Settling himself required the entire three minutes she was downstairs. The Mother knew he had enough to deal with today, both with Nesta’s lesson and beyond it, without descending into thoughts of peeling those pants off her and worshipping every inch of that spectacular backside.
I'LL TREAT YOU RIGHT, NESTA! SHE SHOULD'VE BEEN A GIRL KISSER!
But fuck—when had he last had a satisfying roll in the sheets? Certainly not since the war. Maybe since before Feyre had freed them all from Amarantha’s grip. Cauldron boil him, it had been the month before Amarantha had fallen, hadn’t it? With that female he’d met at Rita’s. In an alley outside the pleasure hall. Against a brick wall. Quick and dirty and over within minutes, neither he nor the female wanting anything more than swift release. That had been more than two years ago. It had been his hand ever since. He should have scratched that particular itch before deciding that living in the House with Nesta was a good idea. She was hurting and adrift and the last thing she needed was him panting after her.
I have no words but what the fuck?
A stupid fucking hope, and one he should have known better than to harbor. So that Winter Solstice night on the icy streets, when he knew she’d only shown up at the town house to get the money Feyre had dangled in exchange for making an appearance, when she’d asserted that she wanted nothing to do with him … he’d thrown the present he’d spent months hunting down into the frozen Sidra and then busied himself with quelling the growing dissent amongst the Illyrians.
Cassian when someone wants to be left alone: 🤬🤬. Temper tantrums at his grown age?
Nesta emerged, her braided hair now coiled across the crown of her head like a woven tiara. He made a point not to look beneath her neck. At the body left on display. She needed to gain back the weight she’d lost, and pack on some muscle, but … those fucking leathers.
When I'm in the sexualizing Nesta challenge but Cassian is already eyeing her.
Will post chapter 6 to 10 reactions some other time. Until then✌🏾
When I enter the Zoom, Jonathan Groff is singing.
"It was a little Beyonce," he says, to which I compliment the warm welcome to what can otherwise be a stressful experience of trying to rush through questions in the short span of eight minutes. Such is junket life.
"He's been doing it to everyone," Karan Soni chimes in, grinning, "so I'm just letting you know."
It's an interaction that feels pulled from their new film, A Nice Indian Boy, which stars Soni as Naveen Gavaskar, who finds himself enamoured by Goff's Jay Kurundkar when he comes to take his photo at the hospital he works in.
The two get swept up in a whirlwind romance, and Naveen proposes to Jay before bringing him home to meet his traditional Indian family, where their romantic bubble bursts.
Soni and Groff have clearly nurtured their friendship, which translates on screen beautifully in Roshan Sethi's third feature film, A Nice Indian Boy.
First premiering in March 2024 at the South by Southwest Film Festival, it is now heading for its theatrical release on April 4, where audiences will finally get to see the magic of the film currently clutching firmly at its 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
When I ask Soni for the moment in the script that made him say yes to playing the role of Naveen, he reveals, "It was the opening scene."
"I grew up in India going to many weddings just sitting on the sidelines as a family member, watching two straight people get married over and over again and being like, 'I'll probably never see a gay version of this,'" he shares.
"I didn't really understand in a way how not healthy that is," Soni says, "I remember this really weird feeling where I was like, 'It's so cool that we're capturing this image of the traditional Indian ceremony with two men.'"
Groff recalls reading that scene for the first time, saying, "It was so evocative."
For him, he was drawn in by the unconventional final act.
"I was, I guess, anticipating what would be the end of the story," Groff says. "The sort of final coming together of the romantic story, but it then became about the family and the wedding and all of that. That, to me, was so beautiful and surprising."
While Naveen and Jay's romance is the sun A Nice Indian Boy orbits around, many love stories run through the film. We have a love story between mother and daughter, brother and sister, father and son-in-law. It feels like a remedy to the hostile environments love is currently facing in corners of the Western world.
"It is a love story about these two people," says Groff. "But, in a broader sense, it's a love story about joining somebody's family. The last third of [A Nice Indian Boy] was such a beautiful surprise to me that made me want to be a part of it."
"It was a really intense shooting schedule," Groff recalls. "Six-day weeks."
But that intensity bore camaraderie, and Groff and Soni speak with reverie about their time working on the film.
"Working on the movie gave me hope," says Groff. "To be in an environment where Karan is bringing his full self and Roshan [Sethi] is bringing his full self, it trickled down through every department. There was this mission that everybody had. A north star of who they are and the story they were wanting to tell."
There are films you watch where the energy from the cast and crew radiates back to the audience. A Nice Indian Boy is one of those rare gems. There's a warmth flowing through it that makes it clear why the reviews are throwing out plaudits like "endearing", "swoon-worthy", and "absolutely hilarious".
"Oftentimes you can have good experiences, but it doesn't necessarily translate to the film," Groff says. "The hope I was given was 'Wow, really amazing kind people can be starring in and directing a film, telling a story from their heart, and it can be a great movie.' You don't have to have the drama, the trauma. They really led with their hearts on this one and made a beautiful film."
From 👻 anon
Hello 👻anon! Thank you so much for the touching compliment! I was wondering which fairytale to do next, so I'm glad you suggested either of those. Although it's been a long while since I've watched Princess & The Frog, I'm going to try my hand at that one since I love the story. For those who prefer a male yandere, don't worry! I'm planning on writing another version of this fairytale for you ღ
.·:*¨ ✘- It Takes Two to Tango - ✘ ¨*:·.
Characters: Yan!Charlotte x Female (Y/N) in Tiana's role In which Charlotte intends to take the only desire she can't buy: her best friend
A Tale in the Baking
When you reincarnated into your new world, you were sleeping soundly in bed with a young, blonde girl who wore a frilly dress that scratched your skin. You were pretty confused and somewhat panicked about your predicament: your childlike appearance drastically contrasted from the mature adult life you've been leading. It wasn't until the end of the week that it finally dawned that you were in the middle of the fairytale "The Princess and the Frog."
Your father, James, had passed recently. Your mother, Eudora, shared his dream of owning a restaurant to you several times already as she reminisced her late husband. Of course, you provided as much comfort as you could. Charlotte visited your home every two days, more clingy than you remembered her being in the movie (likely due to the event).
Now, while you weren't aiming to follow exactly in the true protagonist's footsteps, the prospect of owning your own restaurant sparked a fire in your heart. It was ridiculously difficult to try to own even a car in your previous world. However, there was a key difference in that world and the current one: your family was close with the La Bouffs, the wealthy family Charlotte is from.
As you grew older, you became a confident young woman who didn't dare let a soul deceive her in any way. Because your relationship with Charlotte also grew, you vowed to never let anyone deceive her as well. She was veracious and at times ill-mannered, but you knew deep down that she was also naive. You weren't sure of what the true protagonist did outside of what was told in her tale, but it was your story now. So, you defended Charlotte at every corner & convinced her to tell you of any hardships she had--or of anything, really.
Who knew that such actions intended to protect her would ultimately backfire?
Lollygagging
Ever since she was little, Charlotte dreamed of a prince coming to rescue her from trouble. She'd ramble on and on about this dream to you, who listened to her oh so intently. As time passed, this dream took a different turn. She pondered about it often, twisting the idea in her palm left and right while guys fawned over her.
One night, her father came into her room and introduced an opportunity of a lifetime: to marry Prince Naveen of Maldonia. She was ecstatic and agreed right then and there. In that same week, however, she began having second thoughts.
She visited the restaurant you worked at alone soon after. Picking up her sour mood, you took your break early and sat with her at a table, inquiring whatever was the matter. For someone like her to display such an downcast face in public was a rarity. She told you about her worries. Was marrying Naveen the right choice? What if he wasn't as great of a prince as she hoped he would be? What if she wouldn't be happy after all?
After comforting her softly, you chuckled and cheerily reassured her that everything would be well. Marrying him would mean she'd have both her best friend and the prince in her life!
(You were really hoping they'd get married. On top of Charlotte's happiness, the prince would be a great advantage in your career.)
Charlotte left the restaurant with a laugh, but your support left her heart heavier than before.
At the masquerade ball hosted by her father in honor of Naveen's arrival, Charlotte escaped to your side at every chance. As much as you loved her, her constant presence was disrupting the anxiousness you were trying to keep down. The story had already started off on the wrong foot. Where Charlotte was meant to introduce her potential relationship with her father Big Daddy was instead Big Daddy stopping by to eat with one of his clients at your restaurant, sharing the exciting news.
Once Charlotte darted into the kitchen for the eighth time that night with another excuse to talk to you, you gripped her by the shoulders, instructed her to be a good host and tend to her guests, and to not search for you until the night concluded.
Charlotte hated how you pushed away--hated hated HATED it. But still, she'd do it for you. She'd do it because you trusted she'd listen.
In the meantime, you waited in Charlotte's room until a frog jumped onto your balcony. You already knew you were going to be outbid for the mill (just like how it was in the fairytale), so you weren't wasting any time crying over a destined lost investment. When Naveen in his frog form entered the home, you rolled his eyes at his request to help him find a princess and agreed as long as he married Charlotte regardless of whatever was to happen that night. He had no problem with that.
Lucky for you, knowledge from your past life would serve your career well. You told Naveen that because Big Daddy was crowned Mardi Gras king recently, Charlotte would be a princess. All you two needed to do was to wait for the party to end.
Barely Lovely Triangle
As you suspected, Charlotte came running up to you after the ball had concluded. She chided you with tears in her eyes for leaving her alone for so long. You apologized, saying you only wanted the best for her and the Prince and that you being there likely would've prevented any action from her towards him. She begrudgedly agreed before going on to share how wonderful the dance was. She'd never danced like a royal until that day.
You nodded and "uh huh"-ed and dropped compliments as she talked. Once she concluded, you asked her to please listen to what you were about to say. She guessed the matter had to be serious enough for you to possess such a tone, but she hadn't expect an explanation about the frog beside you.
She pointed at him, a corner of her lip lifted in uncertainty. "So he's a prince, the one I was just dancing with was a fake, so I have to kiss that him to bring the prince back?"
You nodded. "Yup. Do you believe me?"
"I....I do. But what's going to happen to the fake one?"
"He'll be exposed in no time. Please, Charlotte? For me?"
Oh, you know she can't resist any request if it's for you.
Naveen, truth be told, transformed right then and there, into a dashing human of royal blood. After talking about you three's lives for a little while, he bid farewell and wished to meet you and Charlotte again soon. Knowing better now, Naveen kept his distance from danger, and low and behold, Lawrence--the man who had disguised as Naveen with the help of an evil talisman--was arrested for fraud.
Surprisingly, that was the start of a friendship trio. You, Charlotte, and Naveen hung out together every now and then in different locations. Of course, you and Charlotte remained closer than ever, but you were relieved to at least have a breath of fresh air. You didn't really have that many friends in city because you were so engrossed in either work or plotting against a destined marriage you didn't want. You were especially glad that Charlotte and even her father weren't keen on getting Charlotte married as soon as possible. Maybe with how things turned out, you no longer needed to worry about the fairytale's plot.
Too bad Naveen eventually falls in love with you anyway.
His proposal came during one of those days where only two of the three in the group were hanging out together. He happened to stop by your restaurant as you finished your shift and offered to walk you home after stopping by another location. You accepted, but you later wished you didn't once the proposal at a beautiful park happened. You rejected him kindly and reminded him that he had a duty to fulfill, and that was marrying your friend. He apologized. You felt bad, but you weren't in love with the guy! Plus, you wanted that restaurant of yours more than anything in that world. No man was going to stop your dream.
You shared what happened the next day to Charlotte at her house. In contrast to the rant you expected from her, she was...eerily calm. She inquired about the person who has your heart, and to that you told her you didn't have anyone. She nodded and recommended you stay away from Naveen for a bit. Men can take rejection quite rough was the summary of her small spiel about men this and men that. And according to her recommendation (even though you were planning to anyway), you didn't pay Naveen's business any mind. He didn't come around as often.
Over the next couple weeks, Charlotte would visit your home more often to hangout. She'd bring up the topic of romance a couple of times, but your answer remained the same: your love was for her and the restaurant you wished to own.
You'd ask about her and the prince every now and then. Her answer was the same: she wasn't as sure about marrying him anymore.
Love is the Secret Ingredient
At last, Naveen's proposal came in the privacy of a beautiful park with a pavilion and crispy lake. He had set up a picnic for Charlotte and him. They chatted as they ate, and once they concluded their afternoon meal, he popped the question.
Although Charlotte had convinced herself for days that she must accept for her dear friend, she just couldn't.
"I'm sorry, but...I don't think I can do this."
To say Naveen was disappointed was an understatement. Not only did the real thief of his heart reject him, but his business partner and friend also did. Charlotte felt guilty, but imaging herself being stolen away from you was a nightmare! And imagining you being stolen from her.....
Without a proposal to the wealthiest family in the city, Naveen was lost. He had arranged the marriage with Big Daddy to combine their influential powers (Big Daddy's wealth & Naveen's royal title despite being casted out by his family). Luckily, you arranged for him to work with you--to start him on the path of someone in your class.
Charlotte, of course, hated it.
She got an earful from Big Daddy for her rejection, but she didn't care. He would soon lose interest in the proposal as well anyway. After all, she was a Daddy's girl, and he wanted her happy.
Charlotte walked you home almost every work day. Her constant attention made you worry for her own health, but she was a ray of sunshine around you. How hurt could she be?
Soon, Naveen stopped showing up to work. The manager told you that Naveen told him he had lost motivation to work and quit. You were stooped, but when you went to visit the hotel he's been staying at since coming to the city, the receptionist shared that he left two night ago.
Charlotte told you that he happened to overhear her talking about a wealthy friend she had in another city. She arranged for him to go meet and live with the friend at his request.
You scowled with a heavy heart. "Wow. He didn't even bother saying anything to me. How shallow."
Charlotte pouted. "Yeah! He dare he! Guess it's just back to us again, huh?"
You smiled. "Yeah. You get me, Charles."
Adoration flowed through her veins. She was worried you might catch some strange aura off of her, but she wasn't lying. The situation was just premeditated. Within a week, Naveen should arrive at the hotel Charlotte had pointed him to just to find out her friend (she gave her a fake name, of course) had already left that hotel present day's tomorrow. There was no way he could afford the trip back to New Orleans. His entire trip to get there was funded by Charlotte herself.
Two months passed before a letter arrived in your mailbox. The mill that you had lost during Charlotte's ball was bought from the previous owner, and the lawyer inquired if you still wanted the property. You didn't waste any time meeting with them. You intended to sign it over to yourself, but the lawyer suggested another property--one that was more spacious and had much more potential. He offered it at the same price, just as long as you took one or the other. You accepted the second option.
Charlotte was elated to see how thrilled you were. Because you used up most of your savings on signing over the new space, she offered to help renovate the place using her money with refusal for objects. She even asked if she could work for you whenever she had time! You couldn't help but be grateful for your dear friend. You were typically too busy for other friendships, but never too busy for Charlotte.
From then on, life was like a fairytale. You worked your butt off at your new restaurant and taught Charlotte the ins and outs of active involvement. She loved it. She loved working with you. She loved watching you negotiate with hagglers and host events to promote the place. Because you were often exhausted by the end of the day, she suggested (quite strongly) that you and your mom move into her home. It was safer that you come home with someone, and her house was so big, you'd have all the privacy you want!
(Don't expect much privacy from her, though).
Suitors weren't a rare occurrence. You became quite a sought after individual as your business grew. But Charlotte knew how you felt and ensured anything causing your stress was taken care of. You tell her everything, after all!
And of course, she tells you (almost) everything. No boy ever became a problem after Naveen. And like always, despite her new insecurities towards being involved in the "working" part of business, no one was to bring her down. For instance, Charlotte overheard an employee of yours discussing her lack of tack to a chef. She mumbled about it to you over dinner, asking if she was a burden to you. The next work day, the employee praised her progress more than twice in one shift.
One night, you both decided to have a sleepover in Charlotte's room. Trying on different dresses and watching movies had tired such pretty girls out. Laying in her bed, you brushed some blonde locks away from her gorgeous face. "You know Charles, these days, I feel like you're my only true friend."
Charlotte giggled and cuddled closer into your arms. "I'll always be silly. Even if the world crashed, we'll have each other to rely on. No one else!"
"You're absolutely right. No one else."
As she drifted off to sleep in your arms, you continued to brush her hair with a smile on your face. Running a restaurant was hard work, but gambling your luck on Charlotte was even harder. It was a relief she didn't reject Naveen due to affections for another guy. As long as you continued to open your arms out to her, you'll be fine, life would be bliss.
rewatching friends on the other side as a tarot reader and I thought this part was interesting!?
You can't really discern what the other cards are because they're never named/don't have much tarot imagery save for pentacles earlier on in the reading, but these three appear with roman numerals on them; usually when cards are numbered like that, they're from the major arcana, which leads me to believe the cards are The Devil (15), The Tower (16), and The Hermit (9).
I will very briefly give a general basis for how these cards are read without context:
The Devil - Matters of the ego, being stuck in the ways that cater to your ego but may not be serving you, representative of addictions & harmful indulgence
The Tower - A massive upheaval, a sudden shift that is often unexpected, drastically forces change, and can be unpleasant depending on your perspective. Generally accompanies the reveal of some form truth or clarity that can't be taken back once it's known.
The Hermit - A period of solitude characterized by heavy self reflection, with the intention to use the insight gained during this period for self-improvement.
Obviously Dr Facilier was lying about his intentions and was reading for Prince Naveen with a very particular aim, and this colored the reading and the information he presented drastically (including the story told via the imagery on the cards, that he manipulated several times before & after this) but Prince Naveen's future did come out:
Your fixation on catering to your baser desires and your hedonistic consumption in excess is blinding you to the short-term nature of your life as it stands, and you're in for a rude awakening that will force you into solitude to digest new truths and change your perspective.
& Thats the plot of the movie no!?
The Princess and The Frog on Broadway
So recently I’ve gotten into liking The Princess and The Frog again and I started to wonder why it hasn’t been picked up by Broadway.
So I wrote a plot for how I think it would go on Broadway. Enjoy. Or not. If you don’t like it don’t be mean.
Act 1
The show opens with Mama Odie, a vibrant storyteller, center stage, captivating a group of children with her tales. She shares a unique version of "The Frog Prince," where a princess from a distant land breaks the spell on a bewitched frog prince after he promises to marry her. Leaving her kingdom and her people behind, she follows him to his realm, only to find herself abandoned when he breaks his promise to marry another, abandoning her and their son.
One child protests, insisting that's not how the story goes, but Mama Odie chuckles and assures them that there are many ways to tell the tale. She begins a new story.
This one features a little prince and a little princess from two very different worlds. Naveen is the young prince of Maldonia, while Tiana is a girl from New Orleans, the princess of her parents' modest life. Tiana comes from a working-class background, where her father toils to provide for her, leaving little for luxuries. In stark contrast, Naveen enjoys a life of opulence, surrounded by servants who cater to his every need. Yet, despite her limited means, Tiana is surrounded by loving parents, friends, and neighbors, while Naveen, despite his wealth, feels lonely, with parents too busy to spend time with him.
One night, as Tiana is tucked into bed, she and her father dream of their future restaurant, "Tiana's Place." Meanwhile, Naveen is put to bed by a servant who tends to his every whim, explaining yet again why his parents can't be there. Both children are read bedtime stories that mention wishing upon a star, which shines brightly above them. Tiana's father encourages her to keep wishing but reminds her that dreams require hard work to come true, urging her to never lose sight of what truly matters. After their goodnights, both children gaze up at the evening star, making their wishes: Tiana wishes to open her own restaurant with her father, while Naveen wishes for a friend.
Years pass, and Tiana, now grown, works tirelessly as a waitress, driven by her ambition to open her own restaurant. Her fierce independence is fueled by the memory of her father, who taught her the value of hard work. Yet, in her relentless pursuit of her dreams, Tiana often finds herself feeling isolated.
Her wealthy, spoiled yet kind friend, Charlotte La Bouff, and her widowed mother, Eudora, support Tiana's aspirations but express concern about her workaholic nature. Charlotte, obsessed with true love, constantly invites Tiana to social events and tries to set her up on dates, dreaming of a fairy-tale romance like what her father and late mother had.
Meanwhile, Naveen, having now grown up into an arrogant prince with a playboy life style, arrives in New Orleans as a guest of Charlotte's father, Eli "Big Daddy" La Bouff. Big Daddy plans to host a masquerade ball in honor of the prince's arrival, and Charlotte pays Tiana a generous sum to whip up some "man-catching beignets" for the party to impress him. With the payment, Tiana finally has enough for a down payment on a rundown sugar mill she dreams of transforming into her restaurant. Though Eudora is happy for her daughter, she worries that Tiana misunderstands her late husband's teachings, not wanting her to see him as "just a man with a broken dream." However, Tiana is too focused on her goal to grasp her mother's meaning.
As Naveen and his valet Lawrence explore New Orleans, Naveen is captivated by the music, culture, and women. We learn that, despite his royal status, Naveen's parents have cut him off financially, leaving him with no choice but to marry a wealthy woman or find a job. Though Lawrence, tells Naveen that marrying Charlotte is his only chance at a meaningful life, cause he's basically useless at anything else.
While wandering the streets, they encounter the enigmatic Dr. Facilier, known as the Shadow Man, who invites them into his voodoo shop. Inside, they learn of his dark powers and his "friends on the other side." Jealous of the La Bouff fortune, the Shadow Man exploits Naveen's naivety and Lawrence's resentment toward the prince to further his scheme to seize control of New Orleans. He transforms Naveen into a frog and uses a magical talisman to turn Lawrence into an exact replica of Naveen. The plan is for Lawrence, disguised as Naveen, to marry Charlotte, claim her fortune, and share it with the Shadow Man, who intends to eliminate Big Daddy and take over the city.
That night, at the masquerade ball, Lawrence arrives and immediately captivates Charlotte, who is enchanted by the idea of marrying a prince. Meanwhile, Tiana discovers that someone has outbid her for the old building she covets. If she can't secure the funds in three days, her dream will slip away. To make matters worse, Charlotte and Big Daddy's socialite guests cruelly mock and harass Tiana, with one even shoving her into the buffet table, leaving her dirty and humiliated.
However, Charlotte kindly takes Tiana upstairs to help her clean up and offers her a beautiful gown that transforms her into a vision of a princess. Yet, it does little to lift Tiana's spirits. She confides in Charlotte about losing her restaurant, and when Charlotte suggests there are other buildings available, Tiana insists that the one she lost was her dream—the one her father wanted. This prompts Charlotte to say, "Getting that restaurant won't bring him back."
Tiana doesn’t say anything, and Charlotte leaves to give Tiana time to herself. Feeling despondent, Tiana steps onto the balcony and makes a wish upon the evening star. Under the starlit sky, a talking frog approaches her, revealing himself to be the real Prince Naveen.
Mistaking her for a princess due to her masquerade costume, Naveen tells her that if she kisses him, he will return to human form and grant her any wish in return. Thinking of her beloved restaurant, Tiana reluctantly kisses Naveen, unleashing a burst of magic. However, instead of Naveen transforming back into a prince, Tiana is turned into a frog herself.
The two are then discovered by Lawrence, who catches them and decides to throw them into the river to maintain his charade. Naveen and Tiana are swept away by the current into the bayou. They get into an argument, Naveen admits he lied about having money, while Tiana reveals her reality as a waitress rather than a princess. Frustrated, Tiana suggests they part ways, but Naveen soon realizes he doesn't know his way around the bayou and needs her help. He promises to buy the building for Tiana's restaurant once he marries Charlotte if she helps him get out of the swamp. Tiana agrees.
**Act 2:
The second act opens with Tiana and Naveen preparing to leave, they encounter an enormous alligator named Louis. Initially, they fear he might eat them, but they soon discover he is a gentle giant with a passion for jazz music. Louis dreams of playing the trumpet in a jazz band, but his aspirations have been thwarted by people's fear of alligators. After explaining their predicament, Louis suggests they seek out Mama Odie, the voodoo queen of the bayou. Although he hesitates to guide them, Naveen cleverly persuades him to join them by hinting that Mama Odie might be able to turn Louis human and help fulfill his dream.
Meanwhile, Lawerence (posing as Naveen) proposes to Charlotte who excitedly accepts, but shortly after, his disguise wears off. Dr. Facilier angrily confronts Lawerence, demanding to know where Naveen is. Turns out, the talisman Lawerence wears (the source of the Shadow Man's power) needs Naveen's blood to keep up the illusion. When Lawerence reveals that he threw Naveen into the river Facilier realizes he needs to contact assistance from his "Friends on the Other Side."
As Tiana, Naveen, and Louis venture deeper into the bayou, the atmosphere transforms into a magical, moonlit wonderland alive with fireflies. Naveen is captivated by the enchanting scenery, but Tiana remains resolute, focused on their mission. Soon, they realize they have lost their way, leading to a heated argument between Naveen and Tiana.
Suddenly, a soft, melodic voice drifts through the air, singing a heartfelt song about love and longing. Intrigued, they follow the sound and discover Ray, a charming firefly with a big heart. Ray introduces himself and offers to guide them to Mama Odie.
As they travel, Naveen inquires about the song Ray was singing earlier. Ray reveals it's about his love for Evangeline, his soulmate, whom he dreams of being with forever. Tiana is touched by Ray's words, while Naveen playfully warns him not to settle down too quickly. This sparks another argument, with Tiana chastising Naveen for his lazy, philandering ways, and him calling her a "stick in the mud."
Frustrated, Tiana storms off to cool down. Suddenly, a large male bullfrog approaches, aggressively pursuing her. Despite the bullfrog's intimidating size, Naveen rushes to defend her, impressing Tiana with his chivalry. Unfortunately, the bullfrog easily overpowers Naveen, prompting Louis to intervene and scare him away.
As Tiana tends to Naveen's wounds, she is moved by his vulnerability, but he feels humiliated by his defeat, lamenting, "I really am useless." He confesses to Tiana that years of being pampered have left him without self-sufficiency, and he secretly fears that without wealth, no one would truly care for him.
Feeling compassion for Naveen, Tiana decides that the best way to forge real friendships is through good food. She takes it upon herself to teach him how to cook swamp gumbo, hoping to instill in him the confidence and work skills he lacks.
Back in New Orleans, Dr. Facilier summons the shadow demons, seeking their help to find Naveen and bring him back alive and well. Initially, the demons refuse, revealing that Dr. Facilier sold his soul to them long ago in exchange for the power of voodoo and black magic. His aim was revenge on his father, who abandoned him and his mother, allowing him to infiltrate the world of the wealthy. However, he has yet to fulfill his end of the bargain. In a desperate bid, Dr. Facilier promises them a soul in exchange for his own, intending to offer Lawrence's soul. He further entices them with the prospect of freedom to prey upon the souls of New Orleans once Big Daddy is eliminated and the city falls under his rule. Tempted by this offer, the demons grant him a legion of shadowy henchmen, which he commands to find and capture Naveen, deploying them throughout the city and bayou.
That night, after enjoying Tiana's swamp gumbo, Ray spots Evangeline shining brightly in the sky and excitedly shares this with the others. They soon realize that Evangeline is not a firefly but the "evening star." However, none of them have the heart to tell Ray the truth as he serenades the star with a heartfelt love song. Meanwhile, Naveen convinces Tiana to dance with him, and their romance culminates in a near kiss, revealing that they're falling in love.
Suddenly, the shadow demons appear, attempting to seize Naveen, but Mama Odie intervenes. Though she initially seems somewhat senile, she offers valuable advice: they must "dig a little deeper" to discover what truly matters. When they express their desire to be human again, she insists that it's not what they want but what they need that counts. Naveen realizes he needs to be with Tiana, while Tiana remains blinded by her ambition to fulfill her dream.
Disappointed, Mama Odie reveals that the only way for them to regain their humanity is for Naveen to kiss a princess. They quickly deduce that this princess is Charlotte, whose father has been crowned King of Mardi Gras, making her the "princess." The plan is for Naveen to kiss Charlotte before midnight, while she is still a princess, to transform both himself and Tiana back into humans.
Using her powers, Mama Odie sneaks them onto a riverboat back to New Orleans. Tiana assumes that once they are human again, Naveen will marry Charlotte and use her wealth to help her achieve her dream of opening a restaurant. Unbeknownst to her, Naveen plans to propose to Tiana that very night, intending to find another way to earn the money, confiding in Ray and Mama Odie.
Naveen sets up a romantic candlelit dinner, but his nervousness leads to several awkward attempts to express his feelings. Just as he gathers the courage to speak, the boat passes an old sugar mill, distracting Tiana. She begins to talk about her dream and her late father, who served in World War I. Realizing he cannot provide the funds for her restaurant unless he marries Charlotte, Naveen abandons his proposal plan and resolves to return to Charlotte to help fulfill Tiana's dream. As he leaves to find Louis and Ray, Tiana confides in Evangeline about her love for Naveen and her dilemma regarding his impending marriage to Charlotte.
Meanwhile, Naveen is secretly captured by the shadow demons at Mardi Gras, and his blood is used to restore Lawrence's disguise. Ray inadvertently reveals to Tiana that Naveen truly loves her and intends to propose. Realizing this is what she wants, Tiana rushes into the crowd to find him. However, when she reaches the parade, she sees Charlotte standing beside the disguised Lawrence, preparing to marry him. Misunderstanding the situation, Tiana believes Naveen has already kissed Charlotte and become human, prompting her to flee to the cemetery in despair.
Ray follows her, trying to console her, but Tiana lashes out, dismissing Evangeline as merely a distant star and urging Ray to face the truth before he gets hurt as she did. Unconvinced, Ray returns to the Mardi Gras parade, where he finds frog-Naveen imprisoned in a locked box by Lawrence. As Dr. Facilier prepares to kill Big Daddy, Mama Odie reveals herself as Dr. Facilier's mother, who taught him voodoo but was ultimately betrayed by his greed and desire for revenge.
She pleads with him to abandon his evil ways, but he mocks her, calling her weak for allowing his father to exploit her talents. A confrontation ensues, and amidst the chaos, Ray manages to help Naveen escape. He disrupts the wedding by leaping onto Lawrence and tearing off the talisman, exposing him to everyone. Ray then takes talisman away, and in a fit of rage, Dr. Facilier commands the shadows to attack, creating a diversion for Mama Odie while sending another group to chase Ray to the cemetery to retrieve the talisman.
Naveen quickly speaks to Charlotte, revealing his true identity, and together with Louis, they set off to find Tiana and Ray. When Ray finally reunites with Tiana, he hands her the talisman and warns her that the Naveen she saw with Charlotte isn’t the real him. He urges her to keep it safe from the Shadow Man, just as shadows begin to close in. Tiana hops away with the talisman while Ray stays behind to fend off the shadows, using his light to vanquish a few. However, the Shadow Man knocks Ray to the ground and callously steps on him before walking away with a look of disgust. Moments later, Naveen, Louis, and Charlotte find Ray mortally wounded on the ground; he tells them that Tiana has the talisman. Naveen rushes ahead while Louis stays back to protect Charlotte and Ray from the shadow demons.
The shadows and Dr. Facilier pursue Tiana, eventually cornering her. When she threatens to shatter the talisman, he casts an enchantment that transforms her back into a human and transports them to her dream restaurant. He tries to persuade her to hand over the talisman by offering her a deal: the restaurant and a chance to become human again, all while secretly planning to trade her soul to his “friends” to settle his debt. When Tiana refuses, he conjures an illusion of her father, James, to further manipulate her. Confused and frightened, Tiana reaches out to the illusion, but Naveen, having woven himself into the vision with Mama Odie's help, grabs onto her, pleading with her not to believe it. He reminds her that the illusion cannot love her as her father did, just as Naveen himself loves her.
Dr. Facilier, speaking through James, attempts to undermine Naveen's words, insisting that promises of love are meaningless and that Naveen will ultimately betray her, just as Mama Odie’s prince did. In contrast, Naveen begs Dr. Facilier to take his soul instead of Tiana's. The Shadow Man laughs, declaring that only a fool would sacrifice everything for love.
Yet, this convinces Tiana that the James she sees isn’t truly her father as he would never believe such things. She realizes that while her father may not have achieved his dreams, he possessed what mattered most—love—and he never lost sight of its importance. With newfound resolve, Tiana throws the talisman to the ground, shattering it into pieces. This transforms her and Naveen back into frogs and prompts the shadow demons to lose patience with Dr. Facilier, dragging him away to settle his debt.
Tiana confesses her love for Naveen, and Charlotte agrees to kiss him, but the clock strikes midnight before she can. Ray dies, only to be reincarnated as a star during his funeral. Tiana and Naveen are wed by Mama Odie, and they are restored to human form with a kiss, as Tiana is now truly a princess. They return to New Orleans to open their restaurant, Tiana's Palace.
The final scene unfolds with Tiana and Naveen standing hand in hand outside their newly opened restaurant, adorned with twinkling lights and vibrant decorations. The lively streets of New Orleans are filled with music, laughter, and the enticing aroma of delicious food. Friends and family gather to celebrate the couple's journey and the realization of Tiana's dream.
As they greet their guests, Charlotte approaches, beaming with joy for her friends. Louis, now fully embraced by the New Orleans jazz scene, takes center stage, performing a lively tune that gets everyone dancing. As the celebration continues, Ray’s spirit appears as a shimmering firefly, twinkling above the festivities. Tiana looks up, smiling, knowing that Ray is watching over them, embodying the love and friendship that transcends even the darkest moments. The crowd pauses to admire the starry sky, and Tiana whispers a thank you to her father, feeling his presence in her heart.
The curtain falls as the music swells, leaving the audience with a sense of warmth and the belief that dreams can come true when fueled by love and determination. The final words echo in the air: "Dig a little deeper, and you’ll find what you truly need."
