Francis Drake
Translations may not always capture the exact nuances or tone of the original text. Expect grammatical errors and inaccuracies.
CW: Slightly suggestive. Roleplay
After watching a play about a pirate's adventure, we returned to the hideout and, half-jokingly, began reenacting a scene from the play.
Drake: "It's pathetic that a high-ranking navy officer got captured by a pirate so easily."
(As expected, Drake is so good that he doesn't even need to act.)
Playing the role of a naval officer, I found myself tied to a chair.
Mitsuki: "Don't think you'll get away with this."
Drake: "Get away with it? You can't even move."
He smirked mischievously and flicked my boobs over my clothes.
Mitsuki: "Ah!"
(This wasn't part of the plan.)
I glared at him, but he just kept his amused smirk.
Drake: "It feels great to have a pirate like me doing as he pleases with someone who's supposed to catch pirates."
He roughly grabbed my blouse and lifted it along with my undergarments.
Mitsuki: "………"
I felt my cheeks warm up as my chest was exposed.
His eyes, now filled with a beastly desire, locked onto me.
Drake: "Release my men that you captured, or else..."
He grabbed both of my breasts, squeezing them roughly.
Mitsuki: "I can't do that."
Drake: "Then I'll just have to keep playing with you until you change your mind."
Mitsuki: "Ahh...nnn..."
I couldn't hold back the sweet sounds escaping my lips from his intense caresses.
Drake: "Why don't you just surrender, Navy lady?"
Mitsuki: "I refuse."
Drake: "Haha, you're so stubborn."
Drake: "I like women like you. Makes me want to mess you up."
He knelt before me, leaning in, and took my hardened nipple into his mouth.
Mitsuki: "No, ah…"
I couldn't stop writhing under his touch as he teased me with his lips and tongue.
While playing the part of a strong-willed officer, I found myself being thoroughly unraveled by the hands of the wicked pirate.

So ... I want Edwin’s brown overcoat for cosplay purposes.
I looked online and in shops trying to find a second-hand version that comes close, but without success. Either the cut doesn’t match, or the colour, or the fabric, or all of that. So I thought I might try and make it myself. I have some experience in the sewing department, having sewn things like BBC Sherlock’s coat, a British naval captain’s undress uniform from Napoleonic times, and some mediaeval reenactment stuff.
Still, making a tailored garment like this with stiffened lapels and shoulder parts that might need some construction – and that actually fits my weird shape – isn’t easy. Also, since I haven’t got a sewing machine, I do all sewing by hand. I found a pattern for a single-breasted coat online that comes close to the one Edwin wears. It needs to be modified when it comes to the shape and placements of the pockets and pocket-flaps, though. I drew a rough sketch with my measurements, to then create a template from an old bedsheet (one of my grandma’s, incidentally monographed with her initials, which happen to be EP ... what a coincidence, eh?).
I have got some brown felted wool fabric which I bought ages ago because it was cheap, but which unfortunately isn’t the right colour, so I ordered some samples, hoping to get the right shade of light brown (Cognac colour), in the right weight, and with the right finish (ideally a medium-weight pure-wool loden) that is affordable. I’ve still got a fancy striped fabric for lining, which isn’t what Edwin’s coat is lined with, but which I think he would like.
More progress shots soon.
Oh, and here’s the pattern I found online. Might be helpful to others. The site is in German, though.

Accurate Reenactments Based On Facts
Most cultures across the Galaxy do their utmost to preserve and remember their history, both the great achievements, and the terrible mistakes. Humans go a few dozen steps further.
They introduced us to a concept called "Historical reenactments" - accurate recreations of the situations and conditions of ancient events, usually battles, played out with prop equipment by real people. They also said they sometimes do these just for fun and don't care about being 100% accurate.
This particular reenactment was of a battle called Thermopylae. Using numerous historical records, they recreated the location, printed slightly lighter versions of the armor (well, helmets only for some) they wore, and dull weapons with embedded stun shockers that would create a kinetic "bump" upon contact to prevent actual injury by pushing the person back instead.
Once everyone was geared up the atmosphere changed, both visually as the holographic projectors did their thing, and from the Humans themselves - their demeanor became that of... wilderness. Ferocity. Deadly focus. It was quite fear inducing even from afar.
Then the defenders in red, the "Spartans", created a sort of spiky dome with their shields and spears. Then the attackers in blue, the "Persians" unleashed a terrifying volley of arrows, the sky hologram went darker, then a bright beam of light shone upon the defenders as they swept off arrows stuck to their shields in dramatic fashion before proceeding to charge towards their assaulting foes.
We noticed the "Spartans" were all much larger than the "Persians", and actually were equipped with subtle and very modern exoskeletons. Perplexed by this we asked if these Spartans had a very particular technological advantage for their time:
"Well, not as far as we can tell, but based on the materials we have, Spartans were, like, really buff and super strong compared to the average person of the time. Plus, according to the feats of strength they supposedly displayed, we suspect they became an extinct branch of Humanity at some point, so the exoskeletons are there to mimic what we think they were like. Anyway, look, this is the coolest part."
As they spoke, the artificial gravity was lowered slightly and there was a spike in the power output from the exoskeleton equipped Spartans. Now they were flinging the approaching Persians dozens of feet into the air, a single bare-chested man kicked three of them at once backwards at a whole group, knocking the wind out of them.
This sort of extreme violence continued for several minutes.
Suddenly, an incredibly large Persian man on a throne was carried to what was effectively the center stage. Him and a heavily bearded Spartan exchanged a dramatic dialogue, the Spartan threw his spear at the Persian, who dodged it with a single turn of his head, then proceeded to summon a massive horde of small Persians who quickly began to overrun the Spartans.
There were bodies and shields and spears and pieces of armor flying everywhere, but gradually all the red became engulfed by the blue, and only one remaining Spartan managed to wriggle his way out of the carnage and make a run for it back to their city in the distance.
Seemingly satisfied after plucking out the bearded Spartan from the pile, the giant Persian roared in triumph and this is when the reenactment ended and everyone gathered for a feast.
So this is how ancient Human Battles went, huh.
"Well, not all of them. Usually it's between more equal forces in large open fields, or prolonged sieges, which can be a bit boring to recreate.
You should come back next month, we'll be doing an old naval battle between the British Empire and Independent Pirates Lords. It ends with a really sweet whirlpool showdown. Man, what are the odds of that happening, eh?"

also this whole bit with jack & christy-pallière is so funny they're So delighted to see each other and reminisce about the naval battle they fought against one another & compliment each other on how clever the other one's tactics were & what a wonderful time they had when one captured the other's ship & took him prisoner prisoner to the point that they're reenacting it with pieces of bread at the dinner table for their collegues. and then they're both sitting around companionably afterwards like ''i enjoy your company so much but I do still kind of wish we were at war with each other again so I could be back on a ship'' ''me too''. what's wrong with them

Hey!! First of all I want to tell you that I love your art and how you depict the greco-roman world ❤️ I wanted to tell you about a festivity that happens around this time of the year in my hometown in Spain. It's called Carthagineses y Romanos and it celebrates the roman conquest of the city. For a week there are reenactments, partying, artisan stalls, and people dressed up in roman garb all over town (foreign tourists find it very amusing because many aren't expecting it at all lol). It's not really historically accurate but it's super fun. On the main day of the festivities there's a "naval battle" (rowing race in the harbor) and a main battle between romans and carthaginians. We have a lot of punic and roman-era monuments and people get so into it and are very nerdy about that part of history in my town. In the past there have also been oracles, themed weddings, workshops for kids (like making your very own falcata and shield with foam lmao) and even colosseum games like chariot races or mock gladiator battles. I hope you check it out and maybe even think about coming here someday! 😊🏺⚔️
Holy shit I have NOT heard of this but I NEED to go!

Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, during the Franco-Mexican War. The day is a minor, regional holiday in Mexico, being mainly celebrated in the state of Puebla where the city of Puebla is the capital. Military parades, speeches, and reenactments of the battle are held there. It is also celebrated in Veracruz and Mexico City, but in many other places of Mexico, May 5th is no different than any other day.
It is more widely celebrated in the United States, where it commemorates the battle, and celebrates Mexican culture and heritage. It is most celebrated in areas with large Mexican-American populations. The day began gaining popularity in the 1940s, during the beginnings of the Chicano movement. Mexican immigrants used the day to show their pride in their Mexican heritage. Awareness of the holiday was further raised in the 1960s by Chicano activists. Today it is celebrated by many in the country, regardless of their ethnic background. Parades, parties, and festivals are part of the day. These events usually include mariachi music, Mexican folk dancing, and traditional Mexican foods. The largest festivals in the country are held in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston.
Some have been critical of the day, saying it didn't have more widespread demographic appeal until it began being linked to Mexican alcoholic drinks. Some have also been critical of the day by saying it sometimes perpetuates negative stereotypes of Mexican people. The day has sometimes also been confused with Mexican Independence Day, which commemorates the call to arms against the Spanish, that took place on Sept 16, 1810. That day began being celebrated years before Cinco de Mayo.
The story of the Battle of Puebla deals with Mexico's war with France. In 1861, Benito Juárez became president of Mexico, at a time when the country was in trouble economically. They had defaulted on debts to France, Britain, and Spain, and those countries sent naval forces to Veracruz, Mexico, in an effort to retrieve their money. Britain and Spain worked out an agreement and withdrew. But France stayed, in an effort to seize back their money, and to create a French Empire in Mexican territory. France also wanted to limit the influence of the United States in the region. Although, during this time, the United States was preoccupied with the Civil War, giving France more of an opportunity to do as it pleased.
In late 1861, French forces landed at Veracruz and put Juárez and his government on the run. 6,000 French troops, under General Charles Latrille de Lorencez, planned an attack at Puebla de Los Ángeles, a town 80 miles southeast of Mexico City, and were optimistic about its outcome. Juárez was stationed just north of there and sent 2,000 (by some accounts 4,000) men to Puebla. Poorly supplied and outnumbered, they were led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. They fortified the town and got ready for French.
On May 5, 1862, the French attacked the town, and the battle lasted from morning until night. They lost between 500 to 1,000 soldiers, while Mexico lost less than 100. After the battle ended, the French retreated to the Gulf Coast. It was not a strategic win for Mexico but was a symbolic victory and morale booster. General Zaragoza died a few months later, and the town was renamed Puebla de Zaragoza. France's leader, Napoleon III, the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, installed Austrian Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian as emperor of Mexico in 1864. He was executed by Juárez's forces in 1867. France withdrew from Mexico the same year.
How to Observe
One way to celebrate the day is to eat traditional Mexican foods, or foods associated with Mexico, such as tacos, burritos, sopes, enchiladas, grilled corn, chips with salsa verde or guacamole, or mole poblano, which is an important food in Puebla. You could wash it all down with some margaritas. Mexican mariachi music or other Mexican music could be listened to, or you could do some Mexican folk dancing. Food, music, and dancing will likely be a part of any Cinco de Mayo festival or event, so it may be best to attend one! You could attend Los Angeles's Festival de Fiesta Broadway, the largest Cinco de Mayo event in the world (note: this Cinco de Mayo celebration is held in late April). Chicago and Houston are also known for large events. San Diego has various events, including a battle reenactment. The Cinco de Mayo festival in Chandler, Arizona, is known for its Chihuahua parades, races, and pageants. There are many smaller events taking place in cities and towns across the United States. Check to see what is taking place near where you live. In Puebla, there is a museum dedicated to the battle, and the battlefield is a park. A reenactment, replete with rifle and cannon shots, takes place in Puebla on the day, and it ends with a sword fight between the Mexican and French generals. No matter how you celebrate the day, make sure you are being culturally sensitive if you are not of Mexican or Mexican-American descent.

For the ask meme: 5, 17, 25, and 30?
5. Favorite Scene
1986: The locker room scene. Wolfman laying on the bench laughing and reenacting his and Wood’s flight was hilarious and I loved how Slider and Iceman come in and Slider boasts about winning and Iceman’s just standing there smirking like it’s not a big deal all badass and shit. Ugh. So good.
TGM: I LOVED the last sequences of the movie. I loved Maverick and Rooster’s interaction in the woods and the whole stealing the F-14 sequence. Literally in love with the accuracy of that start up procedure and all the light jabs at the Tomcat.
17. If you had a callsign what would it be?
That’s really good question because it could be many different things. I feel like I’ve done a lot of stupid things but nothing that’s gotten caught if that makes sense. Also for context, my last name is very easy to make a play on words, think of along the lines of “Notso” Sharp. Given those things, my callsign is probably one of the following.
Liver Dog or Liver (a nickname I had in high school sports)
Oso or Ohso (pronounced Oh-So, a play on my last name and for another reason I won’t be sharing sorry lol)
Very (also a play on my last name)
Bubbler (it’s a fuckin bubbler okay?!)
Or something having to do with being annoying/talking a lot (ADHD for the win)
25. Would you rather play beach volleyball with the 86 crew or dogfight football with the daggers?
Beach volleyball with the 86 crew hands down because they are such a vibe like the goofy shenanigans and carefree attitude is amazing. Plus I could definitely hold my own, setting up the tall boys for some kills and looking all cool
30. Do you own any merch?
Yes! I own a t-shirt with the Top-Gun logo, a crew neck with a sunset and airplane silhouettes that says “Best of the Best” and “Fightertown, USA”, another crew neck that says “Top Gun”/“Naval Fighter Weapons School”, and another crew neck of the F-14 tomcat silhouette.… it snowed a lot where I went to school and I live in the Midwest so that’s saying something. I also own a Top Gun F-14 Tomcat model that I gotta put together when I get the right glue and a 3D printed F-14 Tomcat with movable wings! And that’s all just the F-14/Top Gun related things lol.

6. Military unit?
In terms of re-enactment? Light infantry! Though grenadiers is also quite fun. HOWEVER artillery… I really like making explosions (also historically the former and last units have some REALLY neat local history!)
11. Have you participated in reenactment? What it was like?
I HAVE! It was unexpected! I showed up to help out with volunteering and all that and suddenly I’m wearing a redcoat and sleeping on the ground in a tent. It was awesome. So much fun, honestly. It’s the perfect combination of my love of weaponry and history. I also love to show kids how to use a musket by doing demos (I don’t give the kid the gun!! Not without clearance omg!!). I love kids so I try to engage them at events because it just makes their day lol The group is pretty small at the moment. I’m really looking forward to some major events This year! But they’re all so lovely! Bloody expensive hobby, though. That’s the only drawback is that I’m still using other people’s kit. A WWI reenactor tried to get me to sign up and while fun, I do not have the time nor the money and could only be as my agab lol
17. What historical item would you like to own?
This may come as a shock. But… a sword. GOD I would love a sword! Specifically a naval sword or a cavalry sword. I’d also love a musket, tbh. I think I’d love to have an actual sword though… a saber…. I think it would fix me or make me worse lol

The large ballroom was bustling with lively activity as Bob walked into the room with his squad mates. Kamikaze was at the front of the group leading the way towards one of the local veterans who was directing others while they set up tables. Rocket nudged his shoulder as they walked in together and Bob looked over at his aviator curiously. The man was already nodding his head towards a group of women on the other side of the room and Bob rolled his eyes and shook his head at the man.
“C’mon Floyd, we need to find you a woman to settle down with.” Rocket said quietly, trying to convince Bob. Bob shook his head as the others came to stand around him.
“Not all of us can be wifed up already, Rocket.” Bob said sarcastically and his squad all chuckled at his words as a few murmured in agreement. Rocket huffed softly as he placed his hands on hips and glared playfully at Bob.
“I’m gonna get you wifed up before our next assignment. Just you watch.” Rocket promised with a wide smile on his lips making Bob scoff softly and shake his head. Just then Kamikaze and the veteran that he had greeted came over to the group of them.
“Alright listen up fellas, this here is Geronimo and he’s in charge of the set up crew. So we’ll be following his orders.” Kamikaze said and Bob turned to Geronimo while waiting for instructions.
“Good morning Gentlemen. We really appreciate y’all helping out. We need to set up the tables around the dance floor about five feet apart and then the ladies over there will have all the table cloths that need to go on them. Mrs. Bennett is in charge of the ladies over there, she’s the woman in the orange flower dress if you need to speak with her.” Geronimo instructed them and Bob nodded his head along with his words.
Suddenly there was a loud crash heard from the kitchen and Bob whipped his head up towards the far door that most likely led into the kitchen. He watched as Mrs. Bennett rushed towards the door before he heard yelling at raised voices. He wondered what was going on as he saw Geronimo approaching him from the side.
“That’d probably be Lettie’s crew. She’s got her hands full with all the new kitchen staff.” Geronimo advised and Bob idly wondered if the kitchen staff was alright. “Anyway, food will be supplied to you for your help with setting up. Lettie’s in charge of that end of the event but we’ll make sure to get you fellas fed.”
Bob and his squadmates all quickly began moving and setting the tables up around the room in the right configuration under Geronimo’s supervision. He kept the squad all entertained as he retold stories from his deployments and missions that he went on. There was even a moment when he reenacted a mission with Raptor which had them all laughing while clutching their sides.
The camaraderie between the squad and the veteran was comforting to Bob as saw everyone working together to get the task done. Geronimo had even been nice and bought all of them tickets to the event since they had helped out. The squad had offered to pay him back but he had waved them off by saying he had a discount for being a veteran.
Just as Bob pulled out the legs of one of the tables he was setting up he got a whiff of the most heavenly scent of food he had ever smelled. His eyes closed gently as his head tilted upwards and turned to the source. Humming loudly Bob opened his eyes to spot a man dressed in an apron laying out a bunch of dishes on one of the long tables they had set up for the charity event staff.
“Yup that’s Lettie’s food, she always gets that reaction whenever she cooks.” Geronimo said while chuckling as he walked over to Bob.
“It smells delicious.” Bob blurted out and Geronimo grinned kindly at him.
“You wouldn’t be the first one to say that. And it tastes even better than it smells too.” he responded and Bob blushed softly in embarrassment. He took in another deep breath and sighed softly as the smell of the food filled his nose and made his mouth begin to water.
“Is Lettie a single woman?” asked Rocket as his eyes narrowed in on Bob and Bob huffed at his bold tactics.
“Shut-” Bob began to say when Geronimo interrupted him.
“Actually she is. She’s Mrs. Bennett’s youngest daughter and she’s normally the chef for any charity event that Mrs. Bennett is involved in.” Geronimo informed them as they all began to walk towards the food table. “She’s a real sweetheart too, always giving more of herself than taking.” Bob could see Rocket’s eyes lighting up with glee at the veteran’s words and Bob knew he would have to put a stop to this before Rocket got any ideas in his head.
“Any chance you could get us a meeting with this renowned chef?” Rocket asked curiously and Bob began to shake his head as he tried to stop Rocket from getting closer to Geronimo. Striker and Raptor cut in front of Bob and blocked his path as they both smirked at him and he huffed at them before smacking them in the arms.
“Probably not, she’ll be busy with not only getting your food and desserts made but she’ll also probably be busy prepping all the food for tonight. She’s in charge of all of it today and she never does this half assed. I can see if she can spare a minute but I doubt it.” Geronimo said honestly and Bob shook his head quickly at Rocket who winked at him with a grin.
“Well if she has a minute of time I’d love to introduce her to Bob.” Rocket said as he nodded his head over to Bob. Geronimo turned his head to look at Bob and smiled at him before turning back to Rocket.
“She’d like him.” Geronimo said knowingly and the squad all hooted and cheered while Bob blushed heavily at the man’s words. “She’s always going on about men who wear glasses. Plus women always love a man in uniform.” Geronimo teased Bob who ducked his head quickly at his words as he fiddled with his glasses.
“You don’t have to do that, Geronimo. Really these guys just can’t seem to stop playing matchmaker.” Bob said softly and Raptor wrapped an arm around his neck before pulling him in close.
“And this one can’t seem to understand his own self worth when it comes to the ladies. We keep telling him that he’s a catch and any woman would be lucky to have him.” Raptor said proudly as the others all nodded their heads at his words. Bob felt his face grow flush with the praises from his squad as he tried to get out of Raptor’s hold.
“They ain’t wrong boy. You do have a lot to give to a relationship.” Geronimo said and Bob shook his head while pushing his glasses up his nose. Bob smiled softly as he got up to the table and grabbed a plate before looking down into the food trays that were laid out nearly groaning in pleasure. “Looks like Lettie went all out for us. We’ve got her famous Gumbo, cheesy grits, biscuits and gravy. Dig in boys.”
Bob eagerly loaded his plate up with the delicious smelling food before taking a seat with the squad. He quickly scooped up a bite of the Gumbo and placed it in his mouth. There were groans and moans around the table and Bob couldn’t help himself as well as he groaned as he chewed the food. It was like an explosion of spices and flavors in his mouth. Just absolutely delicious home cooked food that made him feel as if the chef had put all her being into the dish.
“Bob, if you don’t sweep this woman up I’ll definitely give it an honest try.” Raptor groaned loudly and the table chuckled at his words. “Man, if she cooks like this for helpers at a charity event I can’t imagine what her food for family is like.”
“No difference, she don’t discriminate.” Geronimo grunted out as he put another forkful of food into his mouth. “And her beignets are otherworldly.” Geronimo advised them before they all looked over to the food table to see a mountain of beignets waiting for them.
Bob was too focused on his food to notice Rocket leaving the table and heading over to the group of women with Mrs. Bennett. He didn’t notice his aviator talking to the event planners and writing down something on a piece of paper for them with a smug smile on his face.
*-*-*-*
Later that night Bob and his squad walked back into the ballroom, all dressed in their khakis uniform, and were amazed to see how it had been transformed from when they had set up the tables to the final look. There was a large crowd milling about the room looking at all the raffle prizes that were available. Bob spotted Mrs. Bennett at a table with four other women who were younger than her. It looked like Mrs. Bennett’s family had come to join her at the event in support. Bob wondered which one was Lettie as his eyes darted over each woman.
“Fellas!” called Geronimo as he stepped away from the group of men that he was standing with. Kamikaze greeted Geronimo warmly and the squad mingled with the group of veterans as Geronimo introduced them all. Not long after everyone had been introduced to each other, the event began in full swing. Bob stayed back with the veterans talking to them about their service as he watched his squad mates all dance with women that were there.
It wasn’t long until Bob found himself sniffing the air and sighing softly. It smelled delicious once again and Bob could feel his mouth watering as if he was like Pavlov’s dogs. Geronimo chuckled as he noticed Bob sniffing the air and came to stand next to him.
“She’s got you hooked without even lying eyes on each other huh?” Geronimo asked teasingly and Bob chuckled softly while flushing in embarrassment.
“I can’t help it, the woman knows how to cook.” Bob said truthfully and Geronimo nodded his head at Bob’s words.
“I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to introduce you to her.” Geronimo said regretfully and Bob shook his head while furrowing his eyebrows.
“No, no. Everyone was busy today so don’t even worry about it. Maybe if you need our help again I’ll be able to meet her then.” Bob said casually and Geronimo nodded his head empathically.
“Maybe tonight I can coax her away from the stove.” Geronimo said thoughtfully as he turned to look at the kitchen door. Bob chuckled at the veteran’s words before shaking his head.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, if you would please take your seats, dinner is about to be served.” said the event host behind the podium at the front of the room. Bob eagerly moved to his chair and Geronimo laughed loudly at his actions. Bob grinned boyishly as Geronimo shook his head while taking the seat next to Bob’s. “While the servers deliver the food we’ll go ahead and announce the prizes for the event.” the host advised as Bob’s eyes eagerly followed the servers while they weaved in and out of the crowded table.
Finally when a server came and placed a plate in front of Bob he sat there for a moment gazing at the food. It was Jambalaya and as Bob sucked in a breath through his nose and almost shivered as the scent of the food reached him. Just as Bob was getting ready to put a forkful of the delicious smelling food into his mouth the squad all came back to the table happily chatting about their dance partners.
None of them were actually paying attention or listening to what the host was saying up at the podium. Bob set his fork down as Rocket and Kamikaze took their seats on either side of him. Rocket looked down at Bob’s plate and smiled softly at it before darting his eyes back up to Bob’s.
“Enjoying your food?” Rocket asked in a teasing manner and Bob frowned softly as he looked down at his plate and then back up to Rocket feeling suspicious of the aviator.
“And if I am?” Bob asked and Rocket just smiled while shaking his head.
“And finally we have a date with Naval Officer Robert Floyd.” Said the host from their spot at the podium and Bob dropped his fork in surprise.
“What?!” Bob cried out loudly in shock.

❛ would you like to go somewhere a little more private? ❜
sakhilsfha thank you so much for sending one in!! i took this as a chance to practice writing again<3 I have posted it here on ao3 where I hope to make a series of prompt postings :) 1,384 words. Mature rating because I'm still learning the rating scale.
The party is dry for a Zee Captain. Society elites and bohemians mix, tittering and speaking about things he cares not for. Apparently a duchess has been caught abed with a Rubbery Man or some other such disgusting thing. Regardless of the truth, they gossip endlessly where they stand with wine or some expensive Surface hors d'oeuvres. Likely is not to be seen, presumably working on some mission for the Honey-Eyed Hellion.
He bites into a chertapple, hoping that its ability to strengthen one’s will is not just rumour. He worries that he is bringing shame to Likely for his manner of dress. These people don’t seem the type to admire a Zee Captain or a Catholic. He knows very well that he cannot hide what he is. Well, if his appearance might shame her, let it not be said that his manner did as well.
Moving from the pillar he was leaning on, he enters the atrium properly. Blankets are set upon the grass and a myriad of candles have been brought in in an attempt to brighten up the area for lack of sun. Servants dash to and fro with plates and goblets in their liveried hands. A band plays lively music, the likes of which would have never been played on the Surface.
The Honey-Eyed Hellion notices his approach, a serpentine smile coming to his face. He slips away from the group of bohemians he is entertaining and meets the Cardinal halfway.
“Old bird! I see you have finally decided to join us!”
“Likely seems to think society is good for my health.”
Hellion laughs at that, his yellow eyes narrowing. He is surely imagining the cajoling it must have taken.
“Isn’t it good for all of us? I hear the Zee plays on the mind,” he clamps his hand down on the Cardinal’s arm. “Come. We have the Bishop of Southwark here today! Perhaps another man of the Church would do you well?”
“I’m not an Anglican, Henry,” the Cardinal uses the Hellion’s name with acid in his voice.
“Well, well! It’s no problem. We all end up in the same place anyway!”
The Cardinal curses him; leave it to a devil to not understand the matters of faith. His agitation grows as the Hellion pulls him toward the crowd. Most of the crowd are human, gaudy in their reception clothes. A few devils stand amongst them, their strange suits and orange eyes marking them as different. Most notable is the short man in purple cassock, cantankerously reenacting what appears to be a wrestling move. This must be the Bishop of Southwark - the Cardinal can feel himself starting to dislike the man already.
“Old Honey-eyes, the Bishop here has been telling us his plans for his election campaign,” starts a devil at their approach.
“Yes! I think London could do with a God-fearing Mayor,” the Bishop belts out, deep voice fitting his mustachioed self.
“On that note,” the Honey-Eyed Hellion interjects. “I have here with us another man of the cloth! I introduce to you Archibald Phim, the Cordial Cardinal, Archbishop of Freiburg im Breisgau and Cardinal to Pope Leo XIII.”
The Cardinal raises his eyebrow at Hellion's introduction. He bows nonetheless to Southwark, taking his naval hat off smoothly. When he looks back up, Southwark is staring at him intensely. He smiles tightly back.
“Where is your mitre, man?”
“Pardon?”
Southwark glowers, “Your mitre. The symbol of your status? Why do you have a common captain’s hat instead?”
The Cardinal looks to Hellion for help, his face pleading. Hellion smiles sweetly. He sighs and turns back to face Southwark.
“I am no longer a Cardinal… I am simply a man of the Zee now. It is to her that I belong.”
His hands wring the hat nervously. The other devils look innocent. The human entourage warily whisper to one another and look between the two men. Now they know what he is… what he is not. Perhaps what he should still be. The Cardinal fervently wishes Likely was here.
“WHAT?! How could you turn your back on the people?”
The Cardinal laughs nervously, “Is it not impolite to refer to religion and other matters of theology while in a public setting?”
“Is it not impolite to turn away from the fold when we need all men of faith in this fight against Hell? Hell is here, man! With us!”
“Don’t forget…” one of the devils says, putting their hands on the bishop’s shoulders, “Who is funding your campaign.”
The Bishop of Southwark bristles at that, his mustaches shuddering with his grimace. Polite laughter comes from the others. Some come across as more sincere. The Cardinal simply watches, motioning to one of the servants for a drink. If he has to put up with this any further, he’d rather do it drunk. Polite society doesn’t seem to be for him. At least he has gotten accustomed to the Neathy mushroom wines so common down here.
The party continues on for some time. Subjects are danced around and feelings protected. The Cardinal manages to keep himself out of the spotlight and out of the conversation in general. His glass is filled and refilled leading to a pleasant buzz. He barely listens to Southwark’s ramblings or Hellion’s jabs. He accounts in his mind for supplies and fuel, gifts for the Monkey Emperor or intelligence reports for the Dark-Spectacled Admiral. Lately these mental notations are all that entertain him.
Out of the corner of his eye he notices something pale yellow. He turns to see a lovely image walking through the atrium toward the group. He holds his breath as he takes in the sight. The Likely Lass smiles as she comes toward him. She wears an elegant reception dress; the yellow colour of it brings out the faint copper tones in her brown hair. A series of white ribbons hold her hair up in a complicated arrangement that accentuate the length of her pale neck.
“My darling,” she starts, reaching out to him. “I’m so glad you came.”
He takes her hands, smiling warmly down at her. If angels traversed the Neath, she is proof of their existence. His saviour from boredom and social tedium.
Before he can respond, the other members notice Likely’s arrival. They swarm like bees, chittering in their gossip with her. She looks at him apologetically, but turns to answer their questions. The Hellion pesters her with discussions of business. Sighing, the Cardinal smiles sadly and steps away to let her have her moment.
Eventually she is able to slip away and she links arms with him. She looks up at him, brown eyes twinkling with some plan of her own.
“Would you like to go somewhere a little more private,” she whispers, leaning into him. He does not fail to notice the way her body presses against his own. The scent of a gentle perfume wafts from her form. Desire fills him.
“Of course. I thought I would never be free from these… hm. Your colleagues.”
Likely laughs and pulls him past the pillars. She expertly leads him through a series of hallways until they reach a quiet alcove. No servants or clay men traverse this area of the chateau. His hands immediately go to her waist, pulling her towards him. In response, she raises a finger to stop him.
“I just want to thank you, Archibald. I know it is hard for you to relate to us when you spend so much time at Zee.”
His heart skips a beat at her use of his name. So rarely does he hear it. It is always Captain or Cardinal. Never Archibald.
“Thank you for trying for me.”
“For you, my love, I will always try even if I cannot claim to understand your people.”
She closes her eyes and raises her face for him. Without any hesitation, Archibald leans in for the kiss. Her lips are soft and her breath hot on his cheek. With one hand he pulls her even closer so that their chests press against each other; the other hand cradles the back of her head, careful to not muss her coiffure. Even if all he gets are stolen moments like this, he can live happily. His angel in yellow is all he needs.

6, 15, and 16 for the history asks!
6. Military unit?
😳😳🤭🤭🙈 LMAO Oh well...if you hang around this here blog lately you'd know that I am most partial towards the...Navy 🤭🙈🌊
(okay yeah not sufficient proof (ship/naval gadget/whole nine yards posts) but sshhhh 🙈🙈🌊)
(also I read on quite a few number of Navies except royal navy (nobody asked for you 🤪) and royal dutch navy 🤢🤬💀)
15. Were the history classes teached in an interesting way in your school/ college/ university? What would you do to improve them if you were the teacher / lecturer?
I think it was the 6th grade history class that locked in my interest towards history — the teacher taught us with songs(!) (she did this with geography lessons too ftr) and she even made a little reenaction for a certain battle with toys and figurines, and the class as a whole went MENTAL with it cursing the goddamned dutchies and all 🤣🤣🙈.
She really was the most impressive history teacher I ever had. I may have forgotten her name (oops 😅😩🤦🏾) but her impact on me is truly long lasting 😉
16. Do you own some historical item? ( coin, clothing, weapons, books, ect) If yes which one is your favourite?
Alas no...🥲
Unless if letters from my grandpa's pen pals (from the Netherlands and Soviet Russia(!)) count? If that counts, then probably those.
(and oh! One more thing...dunno how old is my grandpa's edition, but we do have (still) a book that was published by my country's first President (the title is Di Bawah Bendera Revolusi (id: Under the Flag of Revolution). Didn't really read lots of text in it when I first saw it 😅, but it has lots of periodic cartoons and that's always amusing to me, even to this day 🤣🙈)
