Anyway I’m a big believer in natural consequences
Like, for example, our dear rogues today
Both of them were told, separately and together, that the party would be spending the night at the ruler’s manor to discuss a job in the morning
(Drow rogue’s player missed the last two sessions so he got lost during a dramatic fight and had to be recovered, so he was told separately that his friends would be back soon and they’d all stay the night)
And, well
Our dear halfling rogue also has the ADHD, and pretty regularly forgets important details like “sneak up those stairs to whisper what we saw to the party”
(He got to the top, forgot why he came, and yelled back down the stairs to ask what he was meant to be doing
I love him with every part of my soul he’s secretly my favourite
He’s also the one who decided to assert that the ranger isn’t fucking her dire wolf companion, not because no one was, but because he personally was fucking the dire wolf and he’s not sharing
He is not fucking the dire wolf there was no need for this)
So you can guess what happened right after halfling rogue found drow rogue once the rest of the party went to bed
Halfling explained 3-4 times that the rest of the party went back to their inn, in a city they teleported from
The other players made distressed noises and tried to correct him every single time
But the rogues were ass deep in Thee most generic schlocky “your needs are more important than mine” shounen ass scene of all time, and Did Not Listen
Partner’s leaning in beside me whispering to let them just get it done and then send them to bed
But you see
I also have ADHD
And I like natural consequences
And drow rogue in particular needs to learn to pay attention beyond their current YA trope of the day, we all know halfling rogue is doing his goddamn best but he’s also down to commit to the bit with me
Literally everyone in our 8-person party tried to correct them on where to go, including me twice
We had three separate scenes about people being shown to their rooms, or asking to be led to their rooms
We described the hallway and the wing in detail, the number of doors, that all but one of them would have their own rooms (because the drow rogue got left behind and the ruler didn’t see him)
My mercy has limits and my desire for crack does not
So they go, find someone to teleport them, and go back to the inn
And don’t notice til morning that none of their friends are here cuz they rolled garbage insight and assumed their roomie probably bunked with the others instead so they wouldn’t wake him
And then got a Sending-text from the warlock asking where the heck they are since they have a job to do
The cleric had to go collect them they wanted to walk after I told them it was a full day’s ride on horseback
(To be fair this might be because their horses are eldritch abominations that our halfling rogue is fucking terrified of and the party did witness them stomping a demon that nearly killed the barbarian to death the night before)

Got Guilt?
Guilt is not my favourite thing, but it is a useful thing on occasion. #mentalhealth #recovery #guilt
How do you feel about guilt? I’m not a fan, but it’s useful when it’s not overly abundant. Too bad too much is so often. What’s guilt got to do with it? I call myself the Queen of Guilt though I’m aware there are pretenders to the throne. Guilt is among the most ubiquitous of our emotions. We start feeling guilty young and we keep at it our whole lives. I suspect we’re hardwired for guilt.…

They dump their bulky backpacks, weighed down with tools, food, poisonous chemicals, plastic piping, and tents, and begin cutting trees and clearing the ground, manually and with herbicides. Then they set to work laying out waterlines, building check dams, and digging into the soil before planting thousands of cannabis seeds.

I actually find it really bizarre and counter intuitive that clinically speaking, you cannot legally be diagnosed with a personality disorder until you're at least 18. The reason given for this is because "the personality has not fully developed before this age" like ???
Ah yes, my favorite strategy. Not diagnosing the problem until it's already been virtually cemented into your brain for life! Wouldn't it be easier (and more painless) to address the problem before it's fully developed?

The worst thing about this is how he's vaguely smug about it. Like he's expecting the Magat/white supremacist community to rally around him and give him a trophy and $250 K per year for life.

Cdream be like: You can't put yourself in the Prison anymore bc of the woke >:(/lh
That man is a mess like it's facinating how messy his vision of reality is for others and himself
it is fascinating fr, and does remind me of how we'd talk a little bit about how his perspective may betray what kind of environment this guy might've been in pre-dsmp. the stick-up-his-ass about rules and rule-following, the neuroticism about conflict, and the ease with which he jumps to punishment as being the appropriate response to people who cause problems (a perspective that, quite evidently, to a certain extent, does apply to himself, doesn't it?) all seems quite indicative of someone who lived in an environment where punishment being the natural consequence of stepping outside the lines was generally something that went unquestioned. of course, this is speculative, and it's not that a #tragicbackstory is necessary to explain what the fuck is up with c!Dream, and it's hardly about justifying the choice to abuse a teenager into behaving, lmao. but while exile served his goals and exile was a lot of petty, spiteful cruelty for petty, spiteful reasons, i do think there's something to be said about how clearly c!Dream hadn't expected c!Tommy to respond quite so severely to exile and how he thought he would be "fine" with potatoes in the prison and the language he used both about exile and his own early prison stay about shit like "getting better" through punishment. of course, punitive justice as a norm is kind of ingrained in our own society (just look at the rhetoric around deserving in this fandom, lmao, which speaks more than well enough for itself) and of course that reflects onto the dream smp as well, considering how many of the characters talk quite freely about the idea of punishment/deserving/what have you, but few characters are quite as obviously a stickler for rule-following as c!dream and exile and then prison are uhhh definitely on the more extreme end of things. anyway. just some food for thought
