Melica uniflora (Wood Melick) #oneadayplant In recent years Melica have become all the rage in show gardens (especially Chelsea, as they naturally flower in Mid-May (most of the time)). This species is a British Native existing throughout the UK. It is often found edging verges by roads, where the small flowerheads will hang out over the tidy arching foliage and flutter as cars pass by. It does well in dappled shade is an altogether dainty and handsome plant. Just as good in the garden, where the white(r) flowered form Melica uniflora f. albiflora is a more common selection. Both are as good as each other in terms of growth and flower volumes. We have lots of native grasses in the UK.
