Happy National Pepper Pot Day! This unique combination of tripe and vegetables seasoned with pepper and other spices is a vintage American soup.   During the Revolutionary War, the Continental Army was fighting for the newly formed country of the United States of America. They camped at Valley Forge during the cold and harsh winter of 1777-1778. In the battle of Valley Forge, the army was feeling an unusually severe winter.   They were unable to get proper food as the farmers in that region sold all their stocks to the British Army for cash. The farmers have refused to sell their goods to the Continental soldiers as they paid only a few currencies for their crops.   A baker general of the Continental Army named Christopher Ludwick had prepared food with items he gathered to feed the cold and fragile soldiers. The chef had found some peppercorn, small bits of meat, tripe and other ingredients.   Everything was mixed with other seasonings till it attained hot, thick, and spicy soup. The soup is also called Philadelphia #PepperPot. Later the soup was also nicknamed “the soup that won the war.” #NationalPepperPotDay #FoodSales #WeKnowFood #FoodConsultant #FoodDude #FoodService #Food #FoodServiceSolutions #FoodOfTheDay #NobertSales @NobertSales (at Germantown, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmwbUePgW2b/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Happy National Pepper Pot Day Pepper Pot is a thick stew of beef tripe, vegetables, pepper and other seasonings. The soup was first made in West Africa and the Caribbean before being brought to North America through slave trade and made into a distinctively Philadelphian dish by colonial Black women in the 19th century. It was one of the first street foods, sold by so-called "Pepper Pot women" and was at one point the symbolic food of the city, much like the cheesesteak today. #NationalPepperPotDay #PepperPot #FoodSales #WeKnowFood #NonFoodSolutions #FoodConsultant #FoodDude #FoodService #Food #Foodservice #FoodDude #FoodServiceSolutions #FoodOfTheDay #NobertSales @NobertSales (at Germantown, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYEZEXxAxTU/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy National Pepper Pot Day! n the modern world of today, Pepper Pot Soup has many, many variations to it. But the soups true origins began on December 29th of 1777 during the Revolutionary War, the Continental Army had been experiencing an exceptionally harsh winter during the battle of Valley Forge. The soldiers were low on food because the farmers in the area had gone and sold all their supplies to the British Army for cash rather than the weak currency that the Continental soldiers could offer them for their crops. Christopher Ludwick, a baker general of the Continental Army, gathered whatever food he could scrounge together to feed the cold and frail soldiers. The chef was able to find scraps of tripe, meat, and some peppercorn. He then mixed the ingredients together with some other seasonings and created the hot, thick, and spicy soup we now know as pepper pot soup. It quickly became known as “the soup that won the war.” The soup gave the soldiers the warmth and strength that they needed to push the enemies back through the harsh winter weather. #NationalPepperPotDay #PepperPot #FoodSales #WeKnowFood #NonFoodSolutions #FoodConsultant #DisposableSolutions #FoodDude #FoodService #Food #FoodServiceSolutions #NobertSales @NobertSales (at Germantown, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJYiZ_clnkw/?igshid=1qnfbx1lf9nrq
