My first attempt at making Guyanese Pepperpot… Oxtail isn’t in my tax bracket atm, so I used some beef necks, and pork shoulder.
This food is so goddamn good it’s ridiculous!
I think next time I make it imma add a touch more cassareep, more scallion, and marinate the meat for longer. I can definitely see this becoming a regular meal in my house moving forward.

Prompt #1 - Describe a meal that is part of a holiday/special occasion
Tumblr media
One Christmas meal that I was recently introduced to was Guyanese Pepperpot, a traditional dish that is rich in both flavor and culture. Pepperpot is a hearty stew made with either beef or pork, cassareep, and warm spices such as cloves, cinnamon, and peppers if you can handle the spice. All these ingredients combine into a pot, slow cooked for hours, sometimes days even, flooding the home with a festive and comforting aroma simultaneously. My girlfriend's family made it this year for breakfast. Everyone in the house chipped in from chopping ingredients to prepping fresh bread to soak up the broth in the stew. It was clear how much pride and care went into every step. Pepperpot is a balancing act between modern and traditional food systems. Cassareep and locally found spices are now widely available thanks to global markets, but the slow cooking process and family collaboration reflect traditional methods that are passed on from generation to generation. “Guyanese Pepperpot Recipe.” Serious Eats, https://www.seriouseats.com/guyanese-pepperpot-recipe-5222656.

Watching Season 2 eps The Chase and honestly? Seeing a Dalek whirling around going "I'm exterminated, I'm exterminated!" is without a doubt, the funniest thing I've seen all year. Close runners up being the scene above, and the Dalek that just rolled right off the Mary Celeste.

Pepper passed away peacefully in my arms this morning. I don’t know what I’m going to do without you, Peps. I’m heartbroken. I know to most people, she’s probably just a cat but to me, she’s my best friend. You were the best cat in the whole world Pepsi and I’m so lucky to have had you with me for as long as I did, even though it wasn’t nearly as long enough as I wanted. I love you so, so much my gorgeous girl, my little baby. Who’s going to catch all the spiders for me now? Who’s going to terrorise the dogs next door? Who’s going to make Sam and Ebs sneeze when they come to my house? Nothing will ever be the same without you. I’m going to miss you for the rest of my life. Thank you for the best five years Pepperpot. Sleep tight my little Princess 💔🌈💖
