Get in loser, we're taxing the rich!
There's an official proposal to the EU to tax the rich!
You only need to be a EU citizen to sing it. The goal is 1 million signatures before october 2024, and we're already at 140.000!
If you need extra incentive to sign, the French have the most signatures as of right now. You wouldn't want the French to be better than you, right? And if you are French, well, Italians are second right now, you wouldn't want the Italians to catch up, right?
Please reblog so more people can see, EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT FROM THE EU!

We need to smash the mythology of Republicans being fiscally responsible and good at economics. Shoveling vast amounts of money into the pockets of venal oligarchs who don't need it is not good for the country.
Former president Donald Trump approved almost twice as much borrowing as current President Joe Biden during his four years in office, according to the Committee for a Responsible Budget (CFRB). Trump, who presided over the federal government from 2016 to 2020, approved $8.4 trillion in new ten-year debt. But incumbent president Biden, who defeated Trump four years ago, has approved $4.3 trillion in new borrowing, said a new report by the committee. As for reducing the budget deficit, Trump cut it by $443 billion. The Biden administration has reduced it by $1.9 trillion. The U.S. is sitting on a total of $34.73 trillion in national debt, accrued over the country's history, according to government data.
I often say that Republicans create a mess when in office. And when they're voted out, the Republicans then try to make a campaign issue out of Democrats not cleaning up the Republican mess quickly enough.
During the Trump years, his tax cuts added $1.9 trillion in U.S. debt, while the budget passed in 2018 and 2019 generated borrowing of $2.1 trillion. Those two policy moves contributed some of the largest debt increases during Trump's tenure. Over the last three and a half years, under Biden, some of the largest contributors to the national debt included the appropriations bills of fiscal year 2022 and 2023 that generated $1.4 trillion of borrowing, while the American Rescue Plan Act was responsible for $2.1 trillion in debt, according to CFRB.
The Trump tax breaks for the filthy rich will automatically expire in a few years. That's why multi-billionaires are ignoring Trump's dictatorial behavior and criminality and are dropping HŪGE donations into Trump's campaign coffers so that he can renew their tax breaks if he gets back into office. Their rapacious greed is downright pathological.
When those tax breaks expire, provided Biden wins, the debt will then level off as it did during the Clinton administration after Democrats raised taxes on the filthy rich. Bill Clinton ended his presidency with a budget surplus.
As long as we're talking economics, a reminder that 90.9% of all recessions of the past 71 years began under Republicans.

“The picture is as beautiful as her soul.”
The picture, in question:
Tumblr media
Yeah.
I think this was intentional on the artist’s part.
Fair play to him. (Vincent Namatjira)
Gina Rinehart is a GHASTLY woman.
A putrid, bigoted mining magnate and heiress.
A textbook example of the vulgar, idle rich.
(Ghastly as in stupid, unpleasant, and just AWFUL! Look her up!)
I like to think that this portrait shows her True Self.
The evil lurking underneath.
Even if it looks like she was exposed to the Elephant’s Foot at Chernobyl and started melting.
Still.
The picture is as beautiful as her soul.
Her dead, flint and shite coated, blackened, bloated, corpulent, empty soul!
And she doesn’t want anyone to see this portrait.
You know what that means!
Feel free to reblog.
Reblog the SHIT out of it!

I'm mentioned in this blog post about National Reuse Day! (Which is tomorrow.)
It really is a shame that recycling gets all the attention when reducing and reusing are realistically the much more important parts of "reduce, reuse, recycle."
Reusing materials and old, worn out clothes for art and things with new utilities, stuff like upcycling and visible mending... It all shows a story in the resulting items, and that's really charming to me.

u know what i've been thinking about. how the economy expects you to be, right now, at a job you've been at and consistently getting raises in for like, ten years. it's almost like the implication is "well yeah, you'll be able to live off this job in three, five, ten years if you stick with it and grow in the company" which is all fine and dandy, but i kind of need to live right now
#the queen of trash has spoken#rewrote this post six times and it turned into an essay both times and i don't really need it to lol#also thinking about the graphic i saw this morning that said the average spending power of $100 here is $41 compared to the national averag#which i guess? min wage is just over $16 here. but uhhhhhhhh i think my city is one of the most expensive in the state as far as cost of#living goes (not hard since we're the second largest city in a state of three decent sized cities and mostly large towns)#and its just crazy bc i look at my coworkers some of whom haven't been there much longer than me#who have kids and a house and stuff#and i realize oh. their husbands are engineers or lawyers. plus they're probably making more than me because they're team leads or managers#or have been there longer. meanwhile my 25 year old ass is making $20 an hour and my boyfriend is making $18 an hour#both doing highly-specialized work#and like. the idea that in ten years if i last that long both in the company and in this mortal coil#THEN i'll be making a living wage (in today's money)#is like. so wack! considering the fact that people really aren't staying in jobs for very long for various reasons#and for some positions the only way to get a raise is to move to a whole new company#it's just crazy! the fact that a 25 year old with a bachelor's degree can't even afford a fucking APARTMENT.#like everyone should be able to have housing obvs and the obvious solution to this is a universal basic income#but the fact that my experiencce in the economy is so different from my brothers (who is seven years older than me) and COMPLETELY#unrecognizable to that of my parents when they were my age. like i know billionaires are totally disconnected from reality#but in what universe is this a successful economy? /rq i know the answer i promise

Sen. Bernie Sanders visited Stephen Colbert after Trump's seemingly endless acceptance speech at the Republican convention. His refutation of Trump was more succinct as well as more interesting than The Orange One's speech.
In that segment he describes the total lack of attention Republicans devote to climate change – except to give free rein to fossil fuel oligarchs to put even more greenhouse gasses into Earth's atmosphere.
He also outlines how the attention the GOP devotes to working Americans is just superficial bullshit. The GOP opposes raising the minimum wage but favors even more MAGA tax breaks for the filthy rich.
The Bern described our system as a "semi-democracy" because it gives disproportionate power to oligarchic billionaires who can more easily influence the system. He singled out the disastrous 2010 Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court decision as the main culprit in corrupting our political system.
I would add that there only two ways of overturning Citizens United: 1] a US Constitutional amendment (good luck with that!); 2] a subsequent SCOTUS decision overturning Citizens United. #2 is possible in the medium turn – as long as progressives understand that the main goal in any presidential or senatorial election should be the defeat of Republicans who appoint extremist SCOTUS justices. Casting symbolic "protest" votes for impotent third party candidates who have no chance of winning has only led to more justices like Alito and Kavanaugh.
