does a ship ever just strike you by how beautiful they are? not just physical appearance, but the chemistry, how they act or speak together, and if you're lucky how natural the portrayers are together. the little touches or glances that are added makes each scene just so unf that you can't breathe for a few moments and when they're not onscreen the next scene you just wonder what life was....

Maybe if I don’t forget about this, I can make my women+Nathan Drake suffer.
Now introducing the prompt list for Whumpmas in July 2032!
Thank you for patiently waiting! We will be implementing a couple of new changes! We will not be reblogging any creations this year and will instead keep this blog as a space to only post the prompts, tags, and relevant information. We will post the tag for each day, and we ask that you use two tags when filling prompts this year so that others may find your creations easily: Tag 1 —> #wij23day__ (Fill in the blank with the appropriate day number for the prompt you are filling! For example, if you are doing the prompt for day 21, make sure to tag your post with #wij23day21. Of course, feel free to use any other relevant tags too!)
Tag 2 —> #whumpmasinjuly2023 You can also find a banner that you can use in your posts (if you want) under the #wijbanner tag.
The prompts are divided into three categories: questions, prompts, and community activities. Everyone is free to participate as much or as little as they want–there’s no completionist requirement! This list provides a preview of the prompts, but on each day a more detailed post will be released with more context and additional suggestions for each day’s task. Similar to previous years, all prompts and other important information will be found under the #infowhumpmasinjuly tag and #infowij23 for ease of access. This blog will also use the tags #wijquestion , #wijcommunity , and #wijprompt respectively for each post so that you can filter and find the type of prompts you’d like to do.
Below the cut is a text list of this year’s prompts:

A closeted trans girl moves to Gotham City to make it big as a comedian by joining the cast of UCB Live – a government-sanctioned late night sketch show in a world where comedy has been outlawed. As mainstream success eludes our heroine, leading her to unite with a ragtag team of rejects, misfits, and a certain love interest named Mister J, "Joker the Harlequin" is born again as a confident (and psychotic) joker on a collision course with the city’s fascist caped crusader. Vats of feminizing chemicals, sexy cartoon interludes, scarecrow psychiatrists, CGI Lorne Michaels, and psychedelic gender dysphoria all play supporting roles.
Pre-order The People's Joker.

murderface age regression headcanons!!
paci edits at the end!!
🫘🥫🍻🖕🍻🥫🫘
*pet & age regressor
*little age is around 6-7 but still uses gear for a younger age range for comfort
*puppy regressor, teeths a lot and uses a paci but cannot keep it in his mouth for more than a few minutes at a time
*main caregivers are knubbler and nathan. the rest of the band (minus toki) will also help out if necessary . charles will act as a “nanny” sometimes.
*knubbler is trusted with the “fun” things like playing or watching movies and general supervision, but not so much with emotions
*nathan is pretty much the only person mf is comfortable with falling asleep with, and so nathan is usually in charge of putting him to sleep. also deals with tantrums and emotional outburst, which are increased while regressed
*mf needs a bedtime story and likes nathan’s voice
*mf’s regression is very much so trauma based and happens to make up for his “lost childhood” and overwhelming emotions. dealing with him while regressed is very touchy because he is extremely reactive and emotional. he has comfort items that need to be on him 24/7 while regressed
*these items are an old stitched up plushie from his childhood and a mouse skull he found while playing. will throw a fit if he cannot feel them on him, even if they are still there. he needs to be able to feel their weight and texture.
*sensory sensitivity is extremely heightened, so he needs to be in comfortable clothing (old t-shit, pajama pants, pajama pants, etc.) while regressed to avoid a meltdown. he can usually get dressed himself but does like the attention and care of being dressed by someone else.
*still very fixated on his morbid interest while regressed, has a taxidermy squirrel that he formed an emotional attachment to
*will touch dead & rotting things (including dead klokateers) with no self-restriction so needs to be supervised around mordhaus
*collects bones and teeth
*will treat caregivers like parents and call them mom/dad.
*very sensitive to sudden noises because of his trauma + sensory sensitivity
*give him southern comfort food and play outlaw country for him and he will be calm for an hour.
*still hates being bathed but does begrudgingly enjoy having his hair washed and likes when his hair is soft while regressed. once in a blue moon chance to get his hair healthy and body clean so charles takes advantage of it. will fall asleep in bath though.
*roughhouses and play fights. will bite and chew on everything, needs something in his mouth 24/7 because he WILL damage a lot of shit. will chew his cheeks and lips if nothing else is available.
*protective over food, will not let other people touch his food after being prepared, only lets nathan give him food and has to watch him make it or open it. will give bits of his food to whoever is caring for him as a silent thank you and throws a tantrum if they do not eat it
*loooves cuddling but is very embarrassed about it and will need the other person to engage first. especially likes the vibrations of someone’s chest. bad body temp regulation so will either need to be completely wrapped in a blanket or with as much skin out as possible
*likes to watch old cowboy movies and will rant about them incoherently. also shows and movies like MASH, columbo, stripes, the dirty dozen.
*any kind of comedy with bill murry. also forces his caregivers to rewatch the cornetto trilogy a lot. also south park .
*crude humor but in a weird childish way unlike how he usually is. uses mismatched curse words. and his jokes make a lot less sense. imitates characters and makes references to movies and shows. repeats phrases the other guys will say, lots of echolalia and makes a lot of noises
*gets emotionally tired very quickly when regressed so needs rest time and honestly just needs to be cared for, despite being at a mental age where he is not dependent on people. he still had a lot of trauma during that age and uses regressing to cope with that.
*prefers to be mostly independent but needs the care to stay stable and content. will still engage in harmful coping while regressed like hitting his head, pulling his hair, and scratching at himself. he does need support even if he acts like he does not or explicitly denies it
-
he just needs some love and attention because of his unstable childhood and large amount of trauma. he can be really hard to deal with (regressed and regularly) but it is something he needs to cope.

Adorable
if mk, mei, and red son were squires for the knights of the round table, who's squires would they be?
OK OK I THINK I GOT IT (anon forgive me for my late reply, I wanted time to plan this out)
with Mei, I can see her being a squire to Percival bc she would love training that’s focused on strength and wearing sleeveless uniform, OR Gwaine bc chaotic man meets chaotic girl and goes “ah she was just like me” (Also they do share being children of the wealthy but desiring to be separated from that or have the freedom to be themselves without the restrictions that come with nobility/wealth soooooooo!
Red Son I feel is super picky and would not be a big fan of Gwaine (who would join Mei in teasing him), so imma go with Leon and:or Elyan because Leon is a by the book knight and Red Som seems like a type A kind of person. however, I also say Elyan because while Elyan is someone who would take squire training seriously, he wouldn’t say no to having some fun and might approach it better than Gwaine or Lancelot (man’s too noble for his taste and also the duality of him freaks Red Son out)
MK would be Lancelot’s squire (Wukong can never know, the jealous little shit). both guys have a goal to protect and be good and both have a very black & white outlook on morality (meaning, swk saved the townspeople from dbk and is therefore a hero, or Merlin used magic to help aid me in defeating the griffin therefore he proves magic can be a force for good)
ngl MK would internalize all of Lancelot’s teaching about honor and the code but also he would be a great encourager and be patient enough to help walk MK through areas he isn’t that good at. also, Lancelot is great at giving advice (something MK always craves and yet receives the bare minimum— tho good advice he DOES get is ignored by him), so he can also help there
#lmk#lego monkie kid#bbc merlin#lmk sotrt au#traffic light trio#lmk mk#lmk mei#lmk red son#lmk qi xiaotian#we’re also going to incorporate my SotRT AU bc I said so and the traffic light trio would get along so well with them :)#Mei and Roland should never be placed in the same room. Chaos reigns free if they are left to scheme#Red Son would be the only Nathan apologist until Nathan opens his big mouth and suddenly Bors is trying to quell the fire in Nathan’s#hair while Andred and Dagonet die of laughter#Roland and MK would find kinship in having mentors who give vague teachings (I’m Merlin’s defense magic is outlawed; swk is just…#SUPER new with handling a mentorship#also in this crossover au Merlin and swk are pen pals#bc i said so#mk only knew where him & his friends were was bc of swk being Merlin’s pen pal (imma just say they get portaled or something into bbc merli#lmk would be ‘modern times’ whilst bbc Merlín would be ‘ancient times’#squires of the round table#SotRT#lmk au#meta#addition +

Nisie's Year in Books | 2024
books i read this year (its pretty much all queer romance)
Top 5 Reads of 2024
Limited to books released in 2024 only (otherwise how the fuck do i choose???).
Prince of Agony (Perilous Courts #6), Tavia Lark
Swordcrossed, Freya Marsk
What Feasts at Night (Sworn Soldier, #2), TJ Kingfisher
Don't Want You Like a Best Friend (Mischief & Matchmaking #1), Emma Alban
The Captive's Curse (Twilight Mages Book 2), Eliot Grayson
Full review list under cut
Purple are queer romance books I would recommend! Pink are other books I would recommend!
Captain's Surrender, Alex Beecroft ★★★☆☆ Jan 2024 I feel sure that i have read this before but it's not in my good reads history so I'm adding it now. Overall an enjoyable book but there was a bit too much gay angsting for my tastes, I don't care for stories with moral or religious dilemmas over being queer. Naval bits were fun and exciting. Not sure how their Happy Ending is supposed to work with them both being captains but my best wishes to them
Hunting the Spy, Tyler Flynn ★★★☆☆ Jan 10, 2024 Didn't really like this book until the last 20% or so. Nathan is really unlikeable and mean to his beloved, Peter, who is precious and sweet and never did anything wrong. It wasn't until Nathan realized he loved and trusted Peter and begrudgingly accepted his help that story became interesting.
On a Lee Shore, Elin Gregory ★★★☆☆ Jan 25, 2024 Very slow burn. Main character is slightly annoying but he comes around eventually.
Twisted Tome, Vanora Lawless ★★★★☆ Jan 29, 2024 Fun plot, likeable characters, but I feel like it could have done with more editing. There were many parts that felt too long.
Slippery Creatures (The Will Darling Adventures, #1), K.J. Charles ★★★★☆ Feb 08, 2024 ok so i will never like Kim and Will as much as Daniel and Archie, but they are similarly shaped hot messes so I love them anyways, and this was probably my 3rd reread of this book.
The Stablemaster's Heart (Tales of Lilleforth #2), Sarah Honey ★★★☆☆ Feb 11, 2024 Characters were likeable but the writing felt strangely YA for a book with constant and detailed sex scenes.
The Sugared Game (The Will Darling Adventures, #2), K.J. Charles ★★★★★ Feb 24, 2024 I absolutely love how messy these guys are!! and the cameos by some characters from Think of England/Proper English !!!!! (also a reread)
Subtle Blood (The Will Darling Adventures, #3), K.J. Charles ★★★★★ Feb 28, 2024 KIMMMMMMM WHY ARE YOU YOU????
The Larks Still Bravely Singing, Aster Glenn Gray ★★★★☆ Mar 02, 2024 I mostly enjoyed this book but the ending was a bit underwhelming and it felt like there wasn't really any closure or character growth. But they did end up together so that was good.
Ghost Star Night (Sea of Stars, #1), Nicole Kimberling ★★★☆☆ Mar 11, 2024 Didn't enjoy as much as last time. It's still batshit crazy and the mcs are likeable but the plot is so fucking wild???
Tramps and Vagabonds, Aster Glenn Gray ★☆☆☆☆ Mar 12, 2024 DNF at 50%. Honestly I thought it was boring and didn't seem like the plot was going anywhere
Heir of Starlight (Sea of Stars, #2), Nicole Kimberling ★★★★★ Mar 24, 2024 This is a wierd ass book, and I don't know why I like it as much as I do, but here we are - I enjoyed this book where the love interest is trapped in the body of an orangutan.
King's Man (Outlawed #1), Sally Malcolm ★★★★☆ Mar 29, 2024 Good tension happy ending, likeable characters and side characters.
A Botanical Daughter, Noah Medlock ★★☆☆☆ Apr 05, 2024 DNF after part 1 of 3. Simon and Gregor just didn't feel like good or likeable people and I just didn't feel interested in following them on their journey. Their relationship dynamic didn't feel happy or healthy either since Gregor seems to constantly bully Simon and ignore his feelings and concerns. Lastly, I'm sorry but digging up the corpse of your housekeeper's bff without consent and experimenting on it in the basement is a line I don't think protagonists should cross. Personally I would give this a 1 star but it gets an extra because it has potential. I think the story would have worked better and been more interesting if it was entirely told from Jenny's perspective, since she's the only likeable character (as far as I read)..
The Royal Curse (Twilight Mages, #1), Eliot Grayson ★★★★☆ Apr 08, 2024 I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would
What Feasts at Night (Sworn Soldier, #2), T. Kingfisher ★★★★☆ Apr 28, 2024 LET ALEX EASTON FUCK A MONSTER!
The Scottish Boy, Alex de Campi ★★★☆☆ May 2024 This started off strong and it was shaping up to be one of my favorite books. Then it turned sideways and the plot stopped making sense. Still have very mixed feelings about this.
Finding You, Finding Me, Bailey Queen ★★☆☆☆ May 04, 2024 The romance between Henry and Will felt forced. It felt like Henry had more romantic tension with his friend/superior Giordano than Will.
Knight of Nights, Karin Kallmaker ★★☆☆☆ May 10, 2024 Plot didn't really seem to go anywhere and it ended surprisingly abruptly. Didn't like the coin's melodramatic and mysterious comments. Skyra and Kirstine were likeable characters but their romance felt a bit forced. I wanted to like this but there was too much that wasn't to my taste
Crowns and Swords (Royalty & Romance, #1), J.L. Meyrick ★★☆☆☆ May 22, 2024 i don't remember this at all
A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel (The Doomsday Books, #2), K.J. Charles ★★★★★ May 28, 2024 The spicy sequel I have been waiting for!! Luke is absolutely hands down one of my favorite characters.
The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen (The Doomsday Books, #1), K.J. Charles ★★★★★ May 30, 2024 this is the good stuff
Wine and War: The French, the Nazis, and the Battle for France's Greatest Treasure, Don Kladstrup ★★★★★ May 31, 2024 A NON FICTION BOOK!!! IT IS GOOD
A Rulebook for Restless Rogues (Lucky Lovers of London, #2), Jess Everlee ★★★★☆ Jun 02, 2024 This book had a lot going on, possibly too much?
The Gentleman's Book of Vices (Lucky Lovers of London, #1), Jess Everlee ★★★★☆ Jun 06, 2024 First time I tried this book I quit in the first chapter. (The scenes in the molly house were annoying) Second time I held on and made it through to the actual plot which was entertaining and the couple was delightful.
The Oak and the Ash (The Old Bridge Inn #3), Annick Trent ★★★★★ Jun 17, 2024 Absolutely loved this book!!! Just average working folks trying pursue their dreams and build a relationship while earning a living and avoiding the trouble the aristocracy creates! A wonderful blend of realism, hopefulness and cosy.
Harvest Season (The Old Bridge Inn series), Annick Trent ★★★★☆ Jun 19, 2024 hell yeah lesbians! workers!
Bound to the Wild Fae (Fortune Favors the Fae, #3), Tavia Lark ★★★★★ Jun 21, 2024 Absolutely adorable romance!!! Love Yarrow's immediate need to protect his small human!!!
Silk & Sand (Seth & Raider #1), Katherine Diane ★★★☆☆ Jul 2024 i can't even begin to describe how wacky this series is.
Hothouse Bloom (Ramsbury Estate, #1), Hannah Morse ★★★★☆ Jul 06, 2024 Overall a perfectly fine little story but could have used finer proofreading
Don't Want You Like a Best Friend (Mischief & Matchmaking #1), Emma R. Alban ★★★★☆ Jul 11, 2024 Generally I liked this, the characters were likeable, their relationships with their parents were wonderful, and their friendships with cousins and such was sweet. There were a few spots I felt the characters did unlikely things to advance the plot but overall a fun read.
A Bluestocking's Guide to Decadence (Lucky Lovers of London, #3), Jess Everlee ★★★☆☆ Jul 15, 2024 Overall pretty good but there were some moments where it felt like "eating your vegetables". I love Jo but Emily's perspective was a bit tedious at times.
The Lighthouse Keeper, Liv Rancourt ★★☆☆☆ Jul 20, 2024 It felt like there were too many plot threads that didn't always make sense. The romance between Rafe and Vincent felt a bit forced.
The Duke at Hazard (Gentlemen of Uncertain Fortune, #2), K.J. Charles ★★★☆☆ Jul 24, 2024 I didn't particularly enjoy this book. Cassian wasn't likeable until a good way through the book and the villain was too mustache twirling and over the top bad guy. Meanwhile Daizell was perfect and did nothing wrong!!!
The Captive's Curse (Twilight Mages Book 2), Eliot Grayson ★★★★☆ Jul 26, 2024 Highly entertaining and spicy! Cyril was incredibly annoying and I have no idea how Enzo puts up with him but to each their own.
Silver & Gold (Seth & Raider #2), Katherine Diane ★★☆☆☆ Aug 03, 2024 I r really wanted to like this book, but the ratio of action to romance was off. 90% of this book was sex or talking through trauma. It got to the point where I would skip over sex scenes and dialogue, because how many times do you need to know that raider and Seth have hot sex, and that they love each other enough to work through trauma. It's fine, we don't need to know all the details!!! The last 10% of the book was enjoyable, because that's when the plot finally kicked in.
Never Darling (Fortune Favors the Fae, #6), Sam Burns ★★★☆☆ Aug 06, 2024 It was a bit strange that this story was set almost entirely in the human world with fairies just kind of being there at the end. I think the concept for the story was interesting but the slow burn over 3-4 years was implausible. A lot happens in 3 years and you're just not going to remember someone who stopped by once! Meanwhile the background story with Everett and Peter actually seemed more interesting than the main story. I also just don't like stories with hot rich nice guys who just swoop in and solve all of a poor person's problems. Not my kind of fantasy. I think overall it was a taste mismatch for me, and people with different tastes than me will probably enjoy it.
Prince of Poison (Fortune Favors the Fae, #7), Alice Winters ★★☆☆☆ Aug 08, 2024 This felt like 2 books smashed into one - there wasn't enough clues for the reader to understand the layers until 60% through. The plot was convoluted and relied too much on characters explaining it. Lastly the language and dialogue felt really off, they all sounded like teenagers instead of fantasy characters. I'm not exactly expecting Tolkien, but am expecting significantly less "like"s and "I guess" es. Overall I think this had the potential to be a great story but could have used stronger editing.
The Queer Principles of Kit Webb (London Highwaymen, #1), Cat Sebastian ★★★★★ Aug 11, 2024 BE GAY DO CRIME THE NOVEL
Prince of Agony (Perilous Courts #6), Tavia Lark ★★★★★ Aug 16, 2024 WOW OH WOW this is SO GOOD!!!!! KAZIA IS MY BESTEST BABY BOY SO SAD, SO TRAGIC SO PURPLE!! (and yes i have read it 3 times already) .
The Necromancer's Light, Tavia Lark ★★★★★ Aug 18, 2024 Charming romance! Love an opposites attract! They're an adorable couple - what else do I need to say?
These Old Lies, Larrie Barton ★★★☆☆ Aug 24, 2024 Feels weird giving this a 3/5 because I loved AND hated this book. I think it had so much potential and mostly a good plot, it's the timeline of events that makes it unbearably slow and full of needless suffering. I think the arc of the story, which takes almost 30 years to resolve, really could have been resolved within 6 years. I think it would have been a tighter storyline and more hopeful story if the author had compressed the timeline and reduced the characters suffering and pining.
Prince and Assassin (Perilous Courts, #1), Tavia Lark ★★★★★ Aug 28, 2024 Absolutely loved this book! Both Julien and Whisper are absolutely loveable and have a great dynamic. Assassin falling for target is a classic trope for a reason!!!
The Forgotten Dead (OutFoxing the Paranormal, #1), Jordan L. Hawk ★★★★☆ Aug 30, 2024 This was somewhere between a 3 and 4 for me. I can't put my finger on anything that bad or that I particularly disliked but I wasn't feral over it either
Hunter Omega: M/M Paranormal Romance, Liv Rider ★★★☆☆ Sep 2024 A perfectly fine popcorn romance.
You're the Problem, It's You (Mischief & Matchmaking #2), Emma R. Alban ★★☆☆☆ Sep 02, 2024 UPDATE: the book improved significantly literally on the next page after i quit. I did go back and finish the story. so maybe its a 3/5? DNF at 40% it was just too annoying and stressful to keep reading. Bobby Mason was mostly delightful, but Demeroven was whiny, rude and annoying in every scene he was in. Raverson and the evil Stepfather were both too obviously moustache twirling villains and also unnecessary plot points. I didn't believe the attraction between Bobby and Demeroven one bit it was just exhausting to see them continuously arguing and in fact arguing in circles, until they end up on opposite sides but still arguing.
A Thief in the Night, K.J. Charles ★★★★☆ Sep 30, 2024 Great story! Wished it was longer!! Love a happy ending that involves stealing from the rich!!
Liar City (Sugar & Vice #1), Allie Therin ★★★★★ Oct 05, 2024 I really wasn't expecting to love this as much as I do!! I'm not a fan of contemporary fiction but I love Allie Therin's other books so I thought I'd give it a try. I ended up staying up until 3 AM to finish this book in a day
Peacemaker (Sharps & Springfield, #1), Morgan Brice ★☆☆☆☆ Oct 08, 2024 This is one of the most frustrating books I ever read. I should have put it down but it was so close to what I wanted. This book is like going to the freezer for a rich creamy ice cream and only finding a ice encrusted popsicle with freeze burn. The romance between the main characters felt forced and unappealing. They were both incredibly bad at giving and receiving "I want to fuck you" cues and they're also just bad at their jobs? Most of this book was dialogue, with other characters telling them what they had already discovered. The "evil plot" was unnecessarily convoluted and I have no idea how any of the characters reached the conclusions they did. I wish I could have liked this book
You Should Be So Lucky, Cat Sebastian ★★★★☆ Nov 30, 2024 I won't say this book made me care about baseball, but it made me not mind the fact that baseball was here. The romance was charming and the slow burn addictive, although it was probably too slow for my tastes. I think what really kept this from being a 5 star book for me is that it didn't really feel like Romance - it felt like a mid-century period piece about 2 gay men finding a life together. WHich is good, don't get me wrong, but not what I was expecting.
Twisted Shadows (Sugar & Vice, #2), Allie Therin ★★★★★ Dec 19, 2024 Oh my God!!! The most delicious and horny of slow burns!!!!!! It was so good i immediately re-read as soon as i finished it.
One Night in Hartswood, Emma Denny ★★★★☆ Dec 22, 2024 There were a lot of things that annoyed me, including a whole lot of unnecessary misunderstandings, but it had such a delightful ending that overall I did really like this book
Swordcrossed, Freya Marske ★★★★☆ Dec 25, 2024 I'm glad I stuck this one through, though the beginning was rough. I feel like there was too many details of this fantasy world introduced too quickly, and the writing style felt a bit -hm- like it was trying too hard to be high brow? Eventually though the tension between the characters kicked in and the world started to make sense and then it became a whirlwind to the dramatic finish!! (Although I'm a little sad we didn't get DOUBLE WEDDING) The setting is very much like Swordspoint, or the Astreiant series or Daughter of Mystery, but less white, which is great. Would love to see more books in this universe.
Boyfriend Material (London Calling, #1), Alexis Hall ★☆☆☆☆ Dec 25, 2024 DNF at 5% - i just couldn't get into it - I don't really like first-person perspective, and I especially don't like it when the narrator just goes on and on about what a disaster they are, and how HARD their life is, and BOO HOO all anyone cares about is his famous dad. I suppose this makes the character relatable for some people, but doesn't do it for me.

My Favorite Cards of 2024: Outlaws of Thunder Junction
The year is pretty close to over, so let's go back over the sets released this year (with new cards at least), and go through a few of my favorite cards from that release. I'll group together stuff released together, in this case it'll be Outlaws of Thunder Junction, its commander cards, and the Big Score. I'll probably go through one set a day for the next week, though I might skip some days for personal reasons.
Let's start with these! The Spree mechanic offered us plenty of versatile cards to play with, and I enjoy having options in my game of magic. I'll single out these three because they're solid and can fit in more decks than one would think!
Lavaspur Boots are Boots number 3! Better than Swiftfoot for haste, worse for protection, but much better by being tutorable via Urza's Saga. If you want things (like Karnstructs) to attack or activate immediately, grab a pair of boots!
Seeing more stack interaction in White is nice, and Aven Interrupter being able to completely blank enemy counterspells is even nicer. The card isn't too oppressive, but it's very solid and I like it!
Any black deck with enough creatures to cast Hollow Marauder for even 3 or 4 mana in commander should consider it. It's just a big flying body that often draws two or three cards while making the opponents go down some precious resources. Basically a better mulldrifter that sticks around!
Plenty of powerful artifacts in the Big Score, but Legion Extruder is I think the most underrated of them. 2 Damage immediately removes a utility thing, but the ability to sac any artifact, including tokens, at instant speed to get a 3/3 blocker, or to replace a chump blocker, or to sac ITS OWN TOKENS to have "unkillable" blockers, or.... Just a lot of utility in this one.
Criming is easy. Ramping for free for every crime is incredibly good, and Freestrider Lookout has shown up in plenty of environments already. Just double check whether your deck (or just your commander) can commit crimes trivially!
Didn't end up as big a player in the long run than Yuta Takahashi's, but Nathan Steuer's World Championship card is still nice and worth a mention. This is an incredibly cool prize for Worlds and I want to see it keep going for many years.
Commanders that do something entirely new in relatively little text are incredibly rare these days, and Obeka's new card executes on it very very cleanly. And Obeka herself is neat!
Knight of the White Orchid is the best white card to ramp in Commander, and Sand Scout is toeing its spot. Somehow, people underrate it enough you can still grab copies for about 20 cents. You do not need to be a Desert deck to run this card, just about any white non-green deck probably should... And some green white decks if they expect lands in graveyard.
The typical play pattern is a 2 mana 2/2 that searches up a bounceland, Arid Archway, ramping you while maintaining your land count the same. This is extremely important in white because this means it's catch-up ramp that breaks the symmetry, and keeps your other catch-up ramp enabled by itself. With that said, in a pinch it can fetch a ping desert for mana fixing or a Scavenger Grounds for graveyard hate, and that's extra utility that's nice on an already powerful ramp card. Furthermore, if you're playing fetchlands, you'll randomly get some extra 1/1s for no effort.
I wouldn't fill a manabase with deserts for this, it's already an excellent card with three of them in the entire deck. If you blink it three times already or get enough lands on the field that it turns off because you're out of deserts, you probably have enough lands it's not ramping anyway and it's late in the game.
Is Simulacrum Synthesizer a good design? The jury is still out on that. But it's certainly an impressive one! The larger the format and the more affinity cards in it, the stupider it becomes, but it's still an incredibly flashy card and it hasn't broken anything yet.
Taii Wakeen is a really nice top down design of a sniper, in an area that hasn't been explored much in the game. I wish the activated ability wasn't so open as to make that first part almost irrelevant in commander, since they just end up being a way to cheese face damage instead of something that takes down creatures precisely.
Another artifact from the Big Score I enjoy the design of, Collector's Cage has had moments of fame since it was released... But for the most part it's still sleeping and waiting for its time. Instant-speed +1/+1 counters on anything are easy to underestimate, but threat of activation on that makes blocking the Collector's Cage player VERY annoying... And then they might even have any spells hidden away down there!
Finally, Slickshot Show-Off technically shouldn't be on this list, but I wanted to add it because it's one of very few cards released this year that actively made me enjoy magic less, an anti-favorite if you will. They just pushed it slightly too far, we've already seen half decent Kiln Fiend decks in the past WITHOUT evasion AND without Haste. Adding BOTH plus a way to cast it with all your mana open for spells just ends up in cheesy wins that are deeply unsatisfying, and forces everyone involved in matches with these to constantly be sitting on instant speed removal the entire game or praying they don't just die out of nowhere.
You could have removed any one ability from this (except the pump) and still had a good card. But everything together makes for an obnoxious package.

I don't think I've ever shared this guy here, he's an old character that I had semi-abandoned after the group he was made for on dA disbanded (Glowchus). It was something I longed to be part of since I first found out abou it in 2013 or so, and I finally won a spot from a contest... it lasted a few months before being nuked from the internet and tbh I still don't fully understand what happened.
You may wonder what exactly spurred me to work on him again. Well I found out Glowchus have been revitalized and like... have a website and stuff??
I could use his first design and register him on the new site, but tbh I've learned my lesson about trying to develop a character while relying on other people's OCs to create interactions.
So he's not a glowchu anymore, where does he go? Why into the PMD universe of course! He's a regular old pichu obsessed with a book series that sees two factions of special 'chus at odds with each other.
He loves to infodump about the lore to anyone that will listen, including his best friend Nathan (Nathy for short) the shiny lotad! They love to play pretend and want to become a rescue team when they grow up.
He evolves into a pikachu by his mid teens and that's when he started becoming a bit delulu.
Because he has a bit of an unique tail marking he convinces himself that he's a descendant of the characters from his favorite book series (he isn't). He starts adding a marking to his tail with fur dye, wearing leather gloves and earbands to also mimic it, gets a tatoo; the works.
He and His friend Nate become a rescue team and he names it "Team Elementals". Since they're both pokemon that evolve with elemental stones they make a promise: they'll waith for each other and evolve together.
Things are going great for a while, despite Tobio's habit of taking on dangerous outlaws; that is until they finally got their hands on a water stone and a thunder stone. Tobio had gotten so deep into his delusion that the possibility of the evolution not reaffirming it terrified him, and when they eventually got to evolving his fears came true.
He was just a normal raichu, no special traits, no fancy markings, no elemental powers...
For a while he's deep in denial, he keeps dying his fur and drowns himself in dangerous jobs, until reality comes and kicks him in the face: on a mission to capture an outlaw he and Nate punch too far above their weightclass. They go after an extremely dangerous Salamance criminal and while Nate comes out of it with just scratches and bruises, Tobio in his stubborness to prove himself a hero gets his leg bitten off.
It's an harsh wake up call, the recovery takes months, but Tobio's spirit is what takes the hardest hit. He becomes jaded, bitter, starts taking on jobs based on the reward only, stops caring about the dye job on his fur ecc.
Aaaand that's how far I got here! I have a multitude of ideas on how to continue his story but that will come later once I have more characters ironed out. Love my idiot son and I'm glad I decided to bring him back to the pokemon world <3

do you have any book recs or something you read recently that you really loved? i’ve been in a bit of a slump with my reading and i’d love to pick it back up
lol thanks for indulging me!
Currently I'm working my way through 2666 by Roberto Bolaño. It is very good, very dense, and impossible to even start to explain, one of those novels in a novel in a novel situations, loosely about a city in Mexico, but also a) a love triangle between english professors b) a teacher who grows obsessed with a physics book c) an American reporter sent to Mexico to report on a boxing match d) hundreds of murdered women e) a german writer. It's. It's a lot. It's very good, it's very long, I cannot explain it succinctly.
I also just started Haruki Murakami's Wild Sheep Chase, which. I love Murakami novels but they are probably not for everyone! As a starter book for him I like to recommend Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, as it's less surreal and more grounded than a lot of his novels (and shorter). Killing Commodore, one of his more recent novels, was very fun. And if you're into sort of weird Japanese literature, I highly recommend The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa, a sort of… sci-fi-ish story about a lovely peaceful society who, periodically, have concepts (like "birds") outlawed and thus forgotten by all, or anything by Sayaka Murata, who has what I can only describe as humanity dysphoria and writes fascinating short stories.
After I wrote all this I decided to self-shame and show off my Book Mountain, the pile of books by my nightstand I've accumilated over many, many months and mostly have not yet read:
The Field Guide to the Connecticut River is actually super interesting if, like me, you grew up in New England and never thought of that river over there as an eco system in itself. It has illustrations! Pictures of frogs! Geological maps! Super fun to just page through, makes me wanna go hike and look at ponds.
Mary Beard is a fantastic author and I've loved her other Roman-related books (SPQR and Pompeii), super stoked to take another crack at Emperor of Rome.
Ours is a really well written novel with an interesting idea — in the 19th century a group of mostly escaped slaves form their own secret town hidden by magic and isolated from the rest of the world, and how that both protects and hurts them. I just can't get into it, but eventually I'll finish it.
A Children's Bible is quite short and it was fantastic. A group of rich adults rent a summer home and bring a dozen or so children, who are left to fend for themselves as their parents drink and lie around, all while quietly in the background the rest of the world collapses.
Lies and Weddings was fun! it's by the author of Crazy Rich Asians and is essentially a remix of that, just set in England this time. But if you like that sort of thing, it's a fun, quick read.
Bright Young Women was another really good book, I just recently finished re-reading it. I very much enjoyed Jessica Knoll's first book, Luckiest Girl Alive, she's a very strong POV writer. Bright Young Women is a sort of… fictionalized version of the fallout of the Ted Bundy murders, except the murderer is never named or made out to be sexy or sympathetic or cool. It's more about what comes before and after 'the perpetrator' comes into people's lives. Very, very good book.
Another novel (not pictured, but it's on my bookshelf in my line of sight) I really enjoyed recently is Wellness by Nathan Hill: he wrote The Nix a few years back and that was also great, he has a very light and funny style even as he's tackling like. Grief and trauma. Wellness is basically about a married couple in a rough spot, examining them both, how they came to be who they are, the way your past shapes you even if you don't know it, and who they try to be for one another. Maybe halfway through the story there is a silly little anecdote that later came back and made me cry because it was so lovely and paid off so well. Definitely recommend.
