A pre-hijacking fic of Peeta’s decision to stay after being captured by the Capitol, finding strength in his promise to Katniss.
Just when I thought to pull my hand back, Katniss squeezed it. “Stay with me,” she breathed out, her face and hand going slack as sleep pulls her under.
It should’ve been embarrassing how immediate my response was, let alone my actual response, but I couldn’t fault myself for speaking the truth.
“Always.”
TW: hospital angst, nothing overly graphic. There are canon-compliant references of the Games. Included are two Catching Fire scenes in Peeta's POV: when Peeta is revived by Finnick after the forcefield incident and the iconic Stay with me.

Summary: After Katniss releases the arrow that blows up the 75th Hunger Games arena, Peeta Mellark is captured by the Capitol. He fights to keep himself from becoming a piece in Snow's games. My grandfather used to tell me "We are all part of the world Cut from its cloth and woven together With imperceptible threads of fate and chance."
My grandmother was a seamstress before she retired She taught me how to mend my clothes She helped me mend the pants I tore at school From the outside, they looked the same But whenever I turned the pants inside out on wash day I could see where the hole had been
My grandfather used to take me hunting with him He wasn't often a superstitious man But hunting was the exception He told me he always bagged the best deer If he greeted the woods beforehand and thanked them for providing
My grandmother called me one day when I was studying She'd torn a hole in her favorite dress but her arthritis hurt so badly Could I be a dear and come sew it for her? Finals were next week, I told her, I could come and sew it after that She had a heart attack two days later Nobody told me until after finals I went straight to her house and mended the hole So she could be buried in her favorite dress
My grandfather lasted two months with a hole in his heart And then the reaper came to join together what he had rent asunder
I took my fiance hunting with me last week He giggled as I greeted the woods, then stilled when they greeted back There was a quiet echo, a voice I knew quite well "Hullo" the ravens croaked at us, my grandfather's accent bleeding through We hunted for hours and bagged a deer, finest he ever saw It was getting cold and he shivered more than I So I let him borrow my hunting jacket He noticed a seam that had three different color threads I told him how grandmother used her favorite purple When mending the jacket for my grandfather I'd torn a new hole in it last season helping grandfather load his truck Grandmother's arthritis was mild then but still hurt terribly So I'd sewn the hole myself with my favorite color red
#death to narni's finals#this isn't technically part of that#but it's the closet thing I have to a tag for my writing

Just saw @narnie 's stuff for an SoC musical! Looks so cool! Mine's not very professional or really... worked on at all 😓 I can't write music composition to save my life but I'll still work on mine just for fun!
PS sorry if the tag annoys you I just wanted to make sure you get credit for your musical too considering mine is just something I'm doing for fun and yours is already in the process and sounds amazing 😍.

Thunderstorms and Kisses
This is Day 9 of Fili whumptober!
Warnings: thunderstorms, ptsd
Word count: 2060
The thunderstorm outside sounds far to similar to the battle for Fili. Narni helps him through it.
Please refer to the warnings of this story. If you go past this point you are consenting to reading this content.
The thunderstorm outside roared in rage, the sounds echoing through the deep caverns and halls of the lonely mountain. Those who lived closest to the walls of the mountain watched the strikes of lighting with fascination and fear, in awe of the way nature could be so terrible and powerful at the same time. Those in the mines could feel the tingles of electricity through the walls of stone as the bolts hit their mark on the earth, those skilled enough being able to see through the walls and caves of their home without their eyes. Others, such as Narni, were simply heading home to wait out the destructive anger that the world was putting them through.
It was strange to see the usually bustling mountain so empty, and as the darrowdam made her way along her home’s long and deserted halls she felt the longing in her heart. Such as storm always brought her a sense of awe, the crashing and rumbling reminding her of the forge and its organized chaos, its lightning’s flashes reflecting the wonder that sparks in her eyes as she watches the embers burn and the metal bend and shape against the anvil. Storms where wild and free, just as her soul was.
Her feet were light against the marble halls and the small basket she carried was heavy and full of ingredients she would make into treats after dinner. Dinner that Fili was at home preparing for them both. A smile tugged on Narni’s lips at the though. Her prince was talented in many ways, she had known that from the beginning of their courting, but his talent of cooking had surprised her in the best way. While she preferred to bake, her prince put as much heart onto his cooking as he did his forging, and that knowledge alone let there be no comparison to any other’s cooking (except maybe Bombur, not that she would ever admit it to her wonderful lover).
She let the smile turn into a grin as her door came into sight, simply imaging all the wonderful aromas that would greet her as she walked inside. Perhaps Fili would be waiting for her with a spoon in his hand, rushing to her to taste what his hands had so carefully created for her, or perhaps he would be so focused, so entranced at what he was doing he wouldn’t even hear her come in? Would he let her dance around him as she baked? Would he chase her out of the kitchen with a grin, promising her all the time and help in the world after he was done, sealing the deal with a tender kiss? Or would they get lost in each other, forgetting all about dinner as the thunder clouds rolled overhead?
Selfish as it was, she didn’t care as long as he was there. His duties as heir left little time to spend freely with each other and on nights such as these, night where they could be alone together, tucked up in one another’s embrace, she was reminded just how important their bond had become. How strong their love had become.
Turning the handle with full hands was a dilemma but she got it done without dropping anything, having to race to the kitchen table before the eggs rolled away from her. She blinked once, twice at the darkness of the room and the lack of warmth coming from the stove.
“Fili?” she called out to the empty room.
Leaving everything where it was on the bench, she began to wander their quarters. She went straight to their bedroom, checking there first in case he had simply fallen asleep after a long day of meetings and drama, but when she stuck her head into the room and its was just as empty, dark and cold as the kitchen. A twinge of fear stirred in her stomach as she checked the bathroom and balcony with the same results. Had something happened that he would be called upon so late? Had the storm broken through the barricades at the gates?
She called his name again and again, her voice growing in worry each time his name fell from her lips. The last room was the office, and she almost tripped over her skirts in haste to get there, but again she was met with darkness and cold. She had turned to leave, a plan to hunt down her beloved’s brother to see if he was with him when a sniffle caught her ears.
She scanned the room again catching a hint of movement under Fili’s desk. It was small and at first, she had thought it a mouse seeking shelter from the storm, but as she crept closer, the mouse turned out the be the very dwarf she was looking for.
Tucked as far as he could get himself, Fili hid under his desk, his knees propped under his jaw and his hands over his mouth. Red rimmed eyes looked up at her with a look of desperation and fear as he sniffled again.
“Fili?” she asked gently, kneeling down to see him better. His name brought no reaction, but as a louder crash of lightning struck outside and the walls of the mountain groaned in protest of the abuse, Fili whimpered and tucked his face deeper into his hands.
She was by his side in an instant, her hand rubbing his soothingly. He flinched away at first, his head flicking up like he had not realized she was there before recognition settled in his eyes and he gasped onto her with a grip like iron. Narni opened her arms for him and he tucked his head into her chest.
“I’s too loud,” he mumbled miserably, his entire body shaking, “too loud,”
“Oh my sweet, sweet jewel. Do you mean the storm?”
He nodded and sniffled again, “Too loud. I don’t wanna fight again,”
“Fight? Why would you- oh,” she cut herself off, realizing just why her prince was so distraught. The sound outside, the one that warmed her and made her think of her safe space in the forge reminded him of battle, the clashing of metal not one of creation, but of destructing, pain and death.
“Oh, Fee, it is just a storm. There’s no fighting, I promise. You are safe my one. If you just come out-”
Her words meant to heal and calm were drowned out but another gust of howling wind, her brave lion curling up on himself again and holding his hands over his ears.
She hated to leave him here like this, but as quickly as her feet would allow it, she raced out of the room and around their home, grabbing an armful of things from each room and dumping it at her beloved’s feet. She was like a dam possessed as she raced to do another round, rummaging through her basket still sitting on the bench waiting for her.
Fili peaked his head out from behind his hands as she cursed, watching her rub the spot on the top of her head that she had smacked against the wooden desk in her crazed haste. He sent her a worried look with wide eyes and a quivering lip, and as she caught it, she sent him a grin and kicked off her boots. Soon enough she was crawling back to his side, dragging pillows and blankets and warm fluffy coats with her. Again, Narni worked in a hurry, tucking the soft things around them and barricading themselves under the desk.
Affectionately and leisurely now, as not to scare her prince more than he already was now she was by his side, she wrapped him their softest and thickest fur. It was a gift he had presented her after days of hunting, skinning and preserving in an attempt to win her heart in the early days of there courting, the fool not realizing that he already held it in his hands. She chuckled at the memory as she wrapped it around his shoulders and over his head and ears. Their horrible looking stuffed cat plushy made it into his arms, Narni’s favorite wool jumper went between him and the cold stone wall and the blanket from their bed made it around both of them. The rest of the cushions went against the legs of the table and at its mouth, tucking them both in and away from the world outside.
Fili’s sapphire eyes gazed across her work in wonder, hugging the furs closer and slowly coming out of his ball. She felt her heart melt for him and she leaned back and opened her arms once more, her prince wasting no time to scamper into them.
She pulled him close to her, encouraging him into her lap as he dug his nose into the crook of her neck, hiding himself away in her hair. For a while they sat there like that, her hands rubbing circles into the skin of his thighs and back, listening to him whimper and cry, the storm only getting louder as it passed over head. His body shivered and tensed when the lightning hit somewhere close, but slowly and surely his grip began to loosen and he lifted his head from her neck.
Narni peppered kisses against the crown of his head, spreading down to his brows and further to his nose as he slowly came out of his safety embrace. Her hand trailed up his side to wipe away the tears that fell onto his cheeks, kissing away the streaks that stained his face and running her fingers through his beard. He leaned his head back to reach her lips, but she instead kissed his chin, trailing down his jaw and neck.
He moved again trying to line his lips with hers, not missing the way she smiled as she missed again, and he give a small whine.
“So impatient my dear prince,” she tutted, kissing the side of his mouth and drawing another whine from the darrow. He looked up at her with wide begging eyes and she caved, pulling him closer and letting him hurriedly place his lips on hers.
Narni let her fingers wonder into his hair, pulling on his braids as he kissed her, their bodies fitting against each other like two pieces of a puzzle. He paused, pulling back with a dazed look making her giggle. She pecked his lips once more and ushered him to rest his head again so she could take out his braids. Complying wholeheartedly, he relaxed against her again, his eyes drooping as she worked her fingers through his golden locks.
“Thank you,” he murmured, running his hands along her sides, “for staying with me,”
She smiled, tucking his beads into the pocket of a nearby jacket so not to lose the precious heirlooms, “Always, my treasure. How are you feeling?”
“Better, though the noise still hurts,”
“I already have plans to have earmuffs created. You know the ones that the miners use when using blast powder? Something like that but softer… would that help?”
The blond gave a nod, “I think so. I’m sorry, I didn’t know it would be so bad. I didn’t even make dinner, the kitchens a mess and I-”
“Hush now none of that,” the dam scolded lightly, “You are allowed to hurt Fili. Besides if your hungry I have some chocolate chips? I was going to make cookies but this seemed a more appropriate call for chocolate,”
The prince chuckled, the rumble vibrating from his chest, “You always know how to please a darrow, but maybe we could just stay like this for a bit longer?”
“Of course jewel. Lay with me?”
Fili gave a nod and she laid, wrapping them both in their blankets again as he snuggled into her side and laid his head on her chest. He hummed at the feeling of her gently raking through his loose hair and again his eyes began to close.
Quiet humming sounded through their little fort of safety, pulling his thoughts away from the rumble outside and onto the smooth sound of Narni’s voice. She hummed an old Iron Hills lullaby from her childhood, smiling down at the prince that slept soundly in her arms, his face smoothing out and finally finding peace.
“Good night my brave lion,”

op you’ve said it all and I love how you point out Inej’s increased protectiveness of Kaz after and because of this scene which I’ve never really noticed until now
I love this scene because it also highlights the extent of Kaz’s trust in Inej. Kaz, Inej, and the Dregs’s reliance on his strength and his ability to stay ten steps ahead of everyone else would only reinforce Kaz’s secretive nature. but not when it comes to Inej – in Crooked Kingdom, Wylan asks Kaz if he would ever trust someone with a secret that could destroy him and Kaz says yes in his head. I think this was not just referring to the part in SOC where he faints in Fjerda but everything before and after that as well
Kaz trusts Inej with details of his schemes that he exclusively shares with only her (she was the only person besides Kaz who knew about the Ferolind ship decoy and about Wylan, not even Jesper knew), he bares his past to her despite himself, he admits when someone got the drop on him, basically apologizes and reassures her that it won’t happen again, Kaz tells her how he feels about her, and lets Inej see him vulnerable in so many ways
by doing all this, Kaz demonstrates his trust in her and even more so because sharing his vulnerabilities to her makes him even more vulnerable. it’s admitting that he doesn’t have everything together and that he has weaknesses. and sharing how much he cares for Inej is even more impactful because even before this, Inej was the one person who’s seen the most of Kaz’s weakness, is the person his pride should want to keep him from as not to grow even more vulnerable. but this does not deter Kaz from verbalizing his feelings. he still looks Inej in the eye and openly tells her “I want you” and “Say you’ll return” knowing that that’s a vulnerability in itself, knowing that he’s basically admitting to her “you’re my weakness, you have power over me” and thus also saying “I love you, and I trust you to keep me safe with this knowledge” because one does not bear their vulnerabilities to the person that’s seen them at their weakest unless one loves and trusts them.
this quote from six of crows matters SO MUCH to me.
kaz’s strength and the protection his power offers was one of the main reasons inej gained the courage to leave the menagerie. even after joining the dregs, it still gave her a feeling of safety. the fact that kaz is hesitant to admit that someone got the drop on him—he looked at her and nodded once—shows that the strength kaz scrounged from the remains of his traumatised childhood self after jordie died and used to build the dregs from the dirt upwards is one of the only things that gives him a sense of confidence.
inej relies on not only the power of kaz’s reputation, but his physical strength to some degree—after all, kaz’s enemies will come after him even if she’s not there to watch over him. if someone met him without knowing that he’s the revered dirtyhands, he would seem unassuming and perhaps even vulnerable due to his limp. of course, kaz is far from having either of those qualities—and in this scene, inej is mainly worried for kaz rather than for herself.
but the fact that kaz immediately promises that it won’t happen again reveals so much about his character. he has to be strong for himself, for inej, because he didn’t climb so high from nothing to only to fall back into weakness. he associates that weakness with the painful first few weeks he spent in ketterdam when he lost jordie, and can’t bare to entertain the idea that anyone could get the drop on him because he subconsciously believes that he’s to blame for jordie’s death in some way or another.
inej knows this. what kills me is that from then on, she’s always there to keep him safe—even to the point of watching him from afar in crooked kingdom when he takes on the dregs alone purely to make a statement. she doesn’t stay with kaz because she feels indebted to him for freeing her from the menagerie; she stays with him because she fears for him, fears what situations his ambition could get him into, and knows that he’ll not only be safer but be stronger with inej guarding his back as the wraith.

for the soft asks: 🌻 & 🥀 for the new kid, please!💜
hello sorry this took me so long. things have been a little crazy on my end 🙈 and I haven’t had a ton of creative energy. I have some time off work so I’m hoping that’ll come back from the war
the new kid, Narni, is actually a traveler for andromeda six. I am very excited for the chapter 5 update at the end of the month and thought I would get ready with yet another oc!
🌻 What little things do they notice about people or the world around them that make them happy? What tiny little treasures do they find in the normal every day that makes the world seem a little brighter for them?
Narni likes languages and words, so they pay a lot of attention to peoples little vocal ticks and unique phrasing. A unique turn of phrase is something they will always file away to examine and play with later.
🥀 How would your OC decorate a notebook or journal? What kind of things are written in there? Could you give an example of a nice entry?
Narni would probably decorate it with lots of abstract swirls and designs. Lots of swirls and curves and almost labyrinthine patterns. They would probably write a lot about their frustrations. I don’t know how nice any of their entries would be seeing as at their core they are an angry smart ass.

The Exchange of Courtesies
https://ficbook.net/readfic/6544987/22311870
Translator's here 💝👇
'If you think that we have nothing to discuss, you're seriously mistaken.'
'Words have spreaded as shatters of the former glory of Ñoldor people in the hall, and, alas, no one would be able to to collect all of them now.'
'Are you allowing yourself to say these bold words of yours whilst being so confident in my generosity and forbearance?'
'You depend on me, thus you'll have to forbeare quirks of mine. Sadly, I suppose.'
'You can't even imagine to what extent.'
Two Ñoldor were not looking at each other whilst pointedly looking only at patterns on columns and at the view behind windows. Two voices: one that was faint and husky and another one which was beautifully flowing, — were appearing one by one after each pause.
'Aren't you afraid to be at one place with me without any guards?' Maedhros snarkily remarked whilst he was approaching the painting of Narnis.
'The necessity of this conversation without witnesses is outweighing my possible irrational fears,' Ñolofinwë was still looking at nothing happening behind the window when he indifferently replied.
'However, everyone knows that I'm here. What's the point in secretiveness?'
'Yes, everyone knows that you're here. Don’t you have a clue what is the reason?'
Maedhros gave no answer while he was still looking at the picture, examining the painting of his daughter and then the elegant frame.
'I want those who are loyal to me to know the person on whom they’ll take revenge after my death,' the king explained.
'It's very presumptuous to proclaim that there’ll be anyone who would like to risk their life for a deadman,' Fëanarion's voice unpleasantly changed.
'For the one who is alive — just a few will make a heroic act either,' High Ñoldoran still was not looking at his nephew, 'yet, heroes exist.'
'Alright,' Maedhros laughed with malice when he looked upon Finwë's portrait, 'I'll keep in mind that I need to secretly kill you and avoid bragging about how I freed the people of Ñoldor from shameful authority of usurper.'
'And what kind of authority do betrayers and brother killers deserve?' Ñolofinwë innocently wondered while deadly staring at one and the same point somewhere near the fountain at the square.
'I would've asked why do you, such a bright shiny ruler, need these disgusting people who possess no honour,' Fëanor was again mocking him, 'who are stained with the blood of innocents and who rejected wondrous Valar. However, the answer is clear for me.'
For the first time, during this painfully long and tense conversation, the king turned to the one with whom he spoke. Ñoldoran's eyes were blazing with hate, though he was smiling.
'You're wrong,' Ñolofinwë said in an unnatural voice. 'Again. And it's nor the first nor the last time. You ain't right if you think that I have so much lust for power, that I am eager to rule over anyone, as long as I could conquer more lands. You might not believe me though you more than anyone else know the value of a manuscript, and I'm willing to make one of those for you. Right now.’
High Ñoldoran seated himself at the table and smarmily straightened paper by pretentiously pressing its edges with copper soldiers to the table; he leisurely put a beautiful quill, that was shining with blue and green, in ink and started to slowly write tenguas along with reading out loud what he has written.
'So you want to tell me,' Maedhros's lips that were crossed by almost invisible scars stretched his mouth corners in a smile though the upper part of his face remained emotionless, 'that you're not going to claim Morgoth's lands after winning? What an interesting state of affairs.'
'You'll be able to live there and name yourself as you would like,' Ñolofinwë explained calmly.
'Dor-Daedeloth, the Land of Fear and Terror, will obtain a new ruler,' Fëanorian came extremely closely and put his hands, one of which was a real hand and another — a mechanical one, even though they both looked identical in gloves, on the table, 'the Lord who is servant of High Ñoldoran. Are you still trying to convince me that lands of Morgoth won't become yours?'
'Are you so sure that I need the North domain, behind the Iron Mountains?'
'I guess, no. However, by widening borders of your domain on the world map you won't be the second by size of kingdoms in Beleriand anymore.'
High Ñoldoran looked up with a tired glance.
'Aren't you capable of speaking with me nicely?' he asked his nephew. 'Maybe, you could at least try?'
'Try to force me,' Maedhros was still terrifyingly teething, and Ñolofinwë shook his head.
'That is why, Finwë The Third,' Ñoldoran signed, 'I wanted to talk with you in person: were any witnesses present here, I would've had to force you to be polite and respectful with your king. But when we are being heard by no one, the main thing for me is that you learn what is necessary for you but how you will respond to this will stay between us.'
'Or, you are just ashamed to say in front of witnesses that you want to send me and other war heroes along with their families to the uninhabitable lands.'
The glance of the ruler expressed the sincerest confusion.
'It was only a poor joke, Maedhros,' Ñolofinwë explained even calmer than before. 'You were telling me that Morgoth's army will be crushed in the Battle Under the Stars, however, yet after ten years…' Ñoldoran laughed with sadness. 'One day, I will get used to counting years by the calendar of new luminaries but now there’s no time for it. Just imagine, Maedhros, within just ten years these beasts multiplied behind the Iron Hills to that extent that they wiped out Kano's army and flooded the North of Beleriand. You think that something like this can possibly happen on the hollow frozen ground?’
'Morgoth is one of Valar,' Fëanorian reminded this as soon as he noticed that the conversation was getting uncomfortable.
'Manve was saying that Morgoth can't create life by his own will: he requires the use of existing shapes and only then can he change them. Distort them. Turn them evil. He can't create an horde of Orcs and provision for them out of nothing.'
'For this, Morgoth needs help from Mother of Plants and Animals, am I right?' Maedhros asked a question whilst enjoying the effect that he made: Ñolofinwë became really scared and could not pull himself together. 'You don't like the thought of us battling against all of Valar, do you?'
'But you, I see, are entertained by your own exclusive braveness,' Ñoldoran gathered the courage. 'However, if you're right and Morgoth is only the tip of the spear that directed the whole Aynur army at us, then what's the point of the siege? If we’re lacking resources...'
'Valar aren't almighty,' Fëanorian repeated his father's words, 'otherwise, Orcs wouldn't settle down outside of the lands of their precious protector.'
'Or they're as insane and lusty for power as I'm,' Ñolofinwë smiled widely, 'so they're also drawing extensive non-existent borders on maps. But we got distracted. If the siege won't bring us victory through starving them out, what'll be your plan, the future king of the most dreadful lands of Arda?’
'We'll be defending the borders whilst at the same time working on creating weapons that can crush mountains. There'll be no other way to reach Morgoth.'
'We'll be wasting time, and Orcs will again multiply in numbers.'
Maedhros nodded though in truth he was concerned by another matter: Himring’s Lord imagined how he would be walking through burned down by war, soaked in blood and covered with corpses of his friends and enemies — Land of Fear that would be devastated and dead and uslovno belonging to him. He realised that it was not the future that could have been a goal worth to be earned by fighting.
'Brothers of yours aren't joining the siege?' High Ñoldoran asked the question at the most right time. 'Are they withholding their armies until your victory? What is the reason, in your opinion?'
'Silmarils are three in number but there are seven of us,' the unwanted thought reminded him again about the inaction of his family during the capture.
'I would've advised you to insist on them joining your army,' Ñolofinwë continued to speak whilst looking in the eyes of his nephew. 'And then, on leaving them at the most dangerous frontiers. Though, of course, only wicked usurpers will do this, whereas honest followers of fratricide will never stoop to such plots.'
Maedhros made a sound of annoyance but remained silent and just walked away from the table.
‘Is the exchange of courtesies finished?’ High Ñoldoran asked. ‘Will we be able to discuss our plans and prepare lists of required resources in presence of advisers?’
'Perhaps,' Fëanoring responded while glancing again at the portrait of his daughter, 'Ard-Galen needs me, and the sooner I’ll return it’ll be better.'

Favorite Books of 2019
I got to be honest, I’m a little sad with how short my list is this year. It’s probably because I only read like 30 books this year, but still, I was expecting to have a lot more favorites than I have here. Nonetheless, these books were fantastic and I would like to share my thoughts and opinions about them because they blew me away.
7. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
*TRIGGER/CONTENT WARNING FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE & RAPE*
I was on a BBC’s Sherlock binge and it just felt right to pick up this book. It was fun, exciting, dark, and humorous. I loved the dynamics between this modern day Holmes and Watson. Though the characters are different from the characters that I know of in the BBC version, they are still deeply rooted in their original characters, and I loved that so much. I also love the growing romantic relationship between Holmes and Watson. It’s not so much of an insta-love but more a slow burn one, and it’s honestly one of my favorites.
6. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
This is one of my most recent favorites. I love this book so much. The characters are so relatable and they feel like actual people and TEENAGERS. Oh my god, I love that so much. The way the book was written was so interesting because it was as if the main character Frances was actually telling a story. It kept me intrigued and the entire story felt so personal. The fact that Frances chose to stop the reader and tell them that she and Aled do not fall in love was such a power move, and I loved it. The way that school and education is discussed in this book was something I could relate to. I really loved this book and would highly recommend it. I would like to note that the main protagonist is biracial, and both main characters are LGBTQ+.
5. Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
This is an obvious favorite. I was so nervous about this book because it’s a spin-off, and we all know how badly spin-offs can go, but boy did this book beat those expectations. CDTH does a super well job of expanding characters we already know so well, as well as introducing new characters and making readers care about them. It’s a true gem, and I cannot wait for the next book to come out because what was set up in this first book is freaking chaotic. You can read more in a more spoilery and in depth review I made a few weeks back!
4. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
I was so not expecting to love this book as much as I did because I initially started reading this book in 2016, but DNF’d it. I picked it up again, mostly because I thought it deserved a second chance and IT WAS AMAZING. I loved the sibling dynamic between Jude and Noah, and how genuine and real their relationship broke down and then grew back together. I was expecting the so well known “MPDG/MPDB” characters from these two, but they are so far from that. I absolutely loved the romances in this book. It made me gush and cry and have so much anxiety. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but it was so good. I love this book so much.
3. The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis
*TRIGGER/CONTENT WARNINGS FOR RAPE, MOLESTATION, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, HEAVY AND GRAPHIC VIOLENCE, ANIMAL ABUSE, ASSUALT ON WOMEN, AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND ABUSE
Alex Craft is literally what makes this book so fucking great. She’s one of my all-time favorite characters. She’s intense, genuine, and just amazing. I also really liked Peekay too. I found an appreciation for her character because I feel like she’s the thing that pulls back the book from being unrealistic. She’s not like Jack who is great at everything, and she’s not like Alex who does illegal and morally wrong things. I found a bit of myself in her, especially when she begins to question her intentions and actions towards the world and the people around her. This is just such an outstanding book with great main characters (minus Jack because he can go choke).
2. On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
*TRIGGER/CONTENT WARNINGS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE*
I love this book so so much. It makes me cry my heart out and leaves me in so much (good) pain. It’s so hard to pinpoint what it is that I love about it, but I guess I’ll try. I would die for these friendships. The two friendships bring something different to the table and are so unalike each other but they are still so good. With Jude, Narnie, Tate, Webb, and Fitz, they are connected together with a tragedy and they grow from it while Taylor, Jonah, Santangelo, and Raffy connect together unexpectedly when they are supposed to hate each other. Both are beautiful, and I love it. I also really loved the romance, not just between Jonah and Taylor, but also between Narnie and Jude, and Tate and Webb. None of them seemed forced and it happens so naturally. The heavy tone of nostalgia is also something that I love. It is constantly switching back and forth from a past narration to a present narration, and it’s done so well. God, the way the two narrations also come together and begin to make sense is the best and most tragic thing ever. You begin to understand the two stories and how they connect, and it is the saddest thing ever. But yeah, I loved this book and you should read it.
1. The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater
My all-time favorite favorite FAVORITE book series. It’s gonna be a hard one to beat. I love the characters, the story, the romantic/familial/platonic relationships, the writing, the world building, EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK. It’s a series that made me cry, laugh, be angry, have anxiety, feel powerful, feel loved, and feel understood. There is a certain magic in this book that drew me in and kept me there. It’s just so goddamn good.

Today I was at the opening of the accelerator and at an additional lecture, but I missed another lecture because of them.. passed 1 laboratory on metal-cutting machines
Then I went to get the documents. And then home
I've been cleaning all evening. in parallel, I reviewed the film "Chronicles of Narnia". I'm going to have dinner now and I'm going to write lecture notes
As a child, I constantly reread The Chronicles of Narni a 💚💙🤎🧡
