How different are the four heroes in my AU vs my rewrite:

Motoyasu (Rewrite):

- A social butterfly who loves to hang out

- Trusts women more than men

- Still in university and a linguistics major

- Has a complicated relationship with his mother and doesn't really like his father

- Hates making people upset and can be a pushover

- Not the sharpest tool in the shed but not dumb either

Motoyasu (AU):

- Traumatized AF

- Dropped out of university and works at his parents tailor shop

- The only woman he trusts is his mother

- An introvert who doesn't talk to his friends anymore

- Is way smarter and won't take anyone's shit

- An insomanic who runs on black coffee

- Can be very sarcastic at times

- Hides his face (especially from women)

Naofumi ( Rewrite):

- Pretty chill

- Still, he will go ape shit if you wrong him

- Loves his little brother and is doting on him like crazy

- Cannot talk to a girl without making a fool of himself

- Has an ok relationship with his parents

- Wants to follow his father's footsteps and become a trader

- Can control his anger just fine

Naofumi (AU):

- Angry boi

- Will wreck your shit if you piss him off

- Cares about his little brother but more in a "tough love" way

- Doesn't really like his parents but doesn't hate them either

- More rebellious and questioning towards authority figures

- Is more interested in computers than in trading

- Works a part time job as a delivery man

- Talks to girls just fine, though he is still awkward

- Sass machine

Ren (Rewrite):

- Introvert

- Hates people and going out

- Doesn't want any friends and is cold to everyone

- Loves his parents but they don't seem to understand him very well

- Gaming master

- Pretends to be cool even though he knows he isn't

- Pretty good grades

- Will give you the death stare if you look at him for too long

- Game and anime nerd

Ren (AU):

- Has social anxiety and is very shy

- Was homeschooled when he was younger because of this

- Wants to have friends but finds it difficult

- Also traumatized af

- Became homeschooled again after the "incident"

- Has a great relationship with his parents and they try their best to help their son

- Really low self esteem

- Tries to pretend that everything is fine and move on (it doesn't go well)

- Still a gaming master and a nerd

Itsuki (Rewrite):

- Hero complex

- Can be irrational at times

- Also has self esteem issues

- Lives in a poor apartment complex where everyone knows eachother and act as a community

- Has a lot of hands me downs from the older kids

- Has average grades

- Archery is his passion and uses it as a means to gain money from competitions to help his mom out

- Unintentionally rude sometimes

Itsuki (AU):

- Rich bitch cause daddy is a lawyer

- Obsessed with justice after what happened to his father

- Is easier to anger but knows how to keep his cool

- Wants to become a lawyer

-Still average grades though

- Goes to a private school

- What's with this sassy lost child

- Archery is still his passion

- Can come off as snobbish sometimes

- Is way more cautious and calculating

- Cares about appearances

- Is a great actor.

Welp, I said I’d explain the merchant arc overhaul later and it’s damn near midnight. So I guess that counts as later.

First thing’s first, naofumi gains the ability to communicate with Kieka very early on. And quickly gains some additional skills because of this. (Also more spells in general, but shh details)

One of those new skills is mask visage. This basically lets him change his physical appearance at will (not true shapeshifting. At least not yet anyways)

So when the shield family kick off their merchant business, Nao doesn’t just hang tight in the cart, he’s the one doing the selling.

Everyone, meet Skaan, the saint with the bird god carriage. A fair skinned man with strawberry blonde hair and a Scottish accent. He’s cheerful and absolutely loves his adoptive daughters. But don’t let that fool you, he’s a real businessman. And yet, there’s an air of tragedy to him, a deep sorrow in those oh so familiar emerald green eyes.

So yea, naofumi has a separate personality for his merchant trade.

Raphtalia also uses her illusion magick to disguise herself and Filo. They’re aliases to be decided, but I want Raph to have a white bob cut and similarly white fox traits (white ears and tail, with her hands and feet darkening to black like a fox’s). Filo is more or less the same looking but her queen form has blue highlights with the illusion, rather than the normal pink.

*leans in and whispers* this is the arc Ren gets adopted in.

This arc also earns naofumi the ironic nickname of Sunny with the people who know Skaan’s real identity. He’s less than thrilled.

Kieka is kept in bracelet form when Mask visage is used and Nao doubles down with a false rapier (ie. basically Raph’s magick sword minus the magick.) it’s purely for show so Kieka doesn’t react. (Although they negotiate to a point where Nao is allowed exactly 6 daggers and a hitting stick, the hitting stick is for Motoyasu only)

Speaking of the frat boy, he actually buys an exquisite necklace off Skaan to gift to Myne. So when the wave rolls around and Naofumi notices she wearing one of his own creations over her regular jewellery, he and Kieka can’t help but laugh. The only comment Nao gives is a sarcastic “nice necklace”

Motoyasu subsequently became a a regular buyer and a very easy person to scam. Naofumi simply charges him double to usual price. “If I’m selling to a hero, im gonna guarantee quality, o’course that’ll cost ye a wee bit extra.” As Skaan put it.

Ren rides with the shield family a few times before he learns to communicate with Orkian. It’s actually Orkian who points out that Skaan and Naofumi are the same person. Ren is a little embarrassed at being so easily fool. To which Orkian simply states “oh that’s not even the half of what you’ve fallen for. Good to finally be able to correct that. Now for the love of the star spirits, go apologize to Kieka’s champion!”

 AquilaTempestas92  Scheming Narcissist tried to Naofumi Iwatani me on a Fanfic website just because in 2018 I at the age of 19 made a shipping comment of two character’s and said I’d be making a Beyblade story, 2021 I make the Beyblade story and the 30 year old Ped stalked my story thread, approached me under the illusion of being nice, sought to add me to Discord under suggestive commentary of RP writing practice and when I inquired, proceeded to straight away attempt SLANDER and defamation. 

 You've read the Beyblade chapters, are you going to blindly say any writer that also writes an element of NSFW is a monster? The creator of Evangelion, Berserk, SAO, Detective Conan, Vinland Saga etc, they're all monsters? 

 No. So stop trying to demonize someone, you really tried to set me up with the goal of defamation and slander. That was your intention the entire time. You're NASTY.

 I came on fanfic in 2018 briefly made valid points on a shipping and just for that, I get stalked for 4 years, I - along with my close friends - upload Beyblade Augmented Reality Generation while working on other projects and I'm subjected to stalking by AquilaTempestes, all readers are suggested to go to the start of the first reviews on the fanfic thread. 

 There's a sick issue on Fanfic where narcissists pretend to be nice to get people, then give 1 sided false stories to get writer's to attack other's under story threads. AquilaTempestes really tried to Naofumi Iwatani me and failed so miserably and for the slander, I'm most definitely going to ensure more people speak up about the toxicity the bitch has been throwing on a fanfic website for decades.   

  I literally had to leave the website for a whole year after the disappointment of how 30 year old users can do defamation on this website and nothing be done about it on the fanfic website itself.

Okay sorry this is going to be a long one because I am passionate about the anime boys that deserve more love.

There is really no method to my ordering and these are just personal opinions.

1. Takeda Ittetsu- Haikyu: This is a hard pill for some of us to swallow but no matter how much you love the Karasuno boys, they would be nothing without him. Ittetsu is honestly just amazing. He would be one of those teachers that always goes above and beyond for their students. Although he had no experience in volleyball he worked SO HARD. He did not let his pride takeover and sought out additional help with coaching his students. He DID NOT give up. He was at Ukai’s shop constantly asking for his help. The scariest part is, Takeda Sensei knew exactly how to get Ukai to agree (practice against Nekoma) and orchestrated it perfectly. I still love him. He needs more love and recognition. 

2. Iida Tenya- Boku no (My) Hero Academia: I did not realize how awesome Iida is until I watched the Heroes Rising movie (sorry I have been non stop gushing about it ever since I first saw it). *Spoilers* When the Villains attacked, Iida handled things perfectly. He did not panic, and he immediately made important decisions. He delegated the hell out of the situation and the students. Grouping them together based one their abilities and assigning roles. He is also there with moral support and reminding heroes what it means to be heroes. 

3. Yut Lung- Banana Fish: Yut Lung isn’t particularly my favorite character but I do feel that he is underappreciated solely because he is such a complex character. It is often difficult to understand what he is thinking? Is he a bad guy? Is he good? Is he bad? He is bold and ambitious and willing to dispose of those he has no use for. He can act any part. 

4. Iwatani Noafumi- The Rising of the Shield Hero: Naofumi is the protagonist of the series. He has encountered several unfavorable situations that leaves him a pariah. He has only a few loyal companions. I don’t know if it is just because not enough people have seen it but I almost never hear anyone talk about it??? It was so good. And why is Naofumi not on your list of husbandos??? He’s gorgeous, intrinsically good, although he pretends he is displeased and a mean guy, he actually helps people. He is GOOD. 

5. Aburame Shino- Naruto: I know that I am totally being biased here because Shino is MY BOY from Naruto. He is totally that outcast weirdo but I AM NOT MAD. Remember when he fought Torune, his ANBU cousin, and WON. Shino is not as weak as you would think. I know the movies aren’t canon but the movie “bonds,” Shino literally sunk an entire enemy ship without breaking a sweat and it took like 2 seconds. Stop hating on my baby bug boo. I also hate how he looks like Robocop in Boruto but I think it is AMAZING that Shino became a teacher. He has grown so much since we first met him in Naruto. 

6. Otabek Altin-Yuri!!! on Ice: Otabek is a skater from Kazakhstan. He doesn’t get much screen time but the moments with him are great. He aids Yurio in escaping fan girls just so they can have a hear to heart. Yurio is a little brat (and my fav character) and it is nearly impossible for him to make/keep friends. Otabek reveals that they met during childhood and that he always admired Yurio and they became friends. It was real beautiful when Yurio cheered for him at the skating competition because moral support from Yurio is unheard of. Otabek is basically Yurio’s character development catalyst and I AM LIVING FOR IT. Also one of my OTPs and if you have not already seen the “Welcome to the Madness” PV for Yuri!!! on Ice, do yourself a favor and watch it. 

7. Mumen Rider- One Punch Man: Mumen Rider, the class C hero is never going to be anyone’s favorite hero. He is not going to be seen saving the world from alien monsters. But you know what else he won’t be seen doing? GIVING UP. He races around on his bike doing the right thing. He puts his life on the line to do everything and anything he can to ensure safety for those around him. He knows he does not stand a chance against these monsters but if he tries just a little harder, if he keeps on going, he can maybe make even a small difference. For example, distracting the monster from attacking the town and citizens while also buying time for a hero, that is capable of destroying the monster, to arrive. EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS. AND HE NEVER COMPLAINS.

8.Zenitsu- Demon Slayer: Zenitsu, from what I can tell, universally isn’t admired as much as the other characters, rightfully so. Zenitsu spends the majority of the time crying, running away from his problems, and engaging in awkward social situations, but let’s be honest, are we not? He is relatable. He is afraid to die, he is afraid of things he does not know, he is afraid of things he isn’t sure he is strong enough to defeat. he is afraid BECAUSE THINGS ARE SCARY. But you know what, even as he is shaking in fear he always comes through. He finds motivation or inspiration and it fuels him forward. I also think the artwork surrounding him is beautiful. Also let’s not forget how he saved Nezuko, before he even knew she was a pretty girl. Zenitsu endured a damaging beating from Inosuke to prevent any harm coming to Tanjiro’s traveling box (that happened to contain Nezuko). Zenitsu even admitted knowing a demon was in there but his friend, Tanjiro, said the box is more important than his life and did whatever needed to be done to protect his precious friend’s important items. ZENITSU IS ALSO A TOTAL BOSS WHEN HE SLEEP FIGHTS.

Okay, I’ll stop there. This took forever to put into words lol. I am sorry if I left out any of your babies. These are my opinions based on animes that I have seen. I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Final Thoughts on Shield Hero

And just like that, I’m done with Shield Hero. Thank Christ, I never have to spare this show an ounce of thought again.

For all the controversy surrounding it, Shield Hero’s biggest problem is just that it’s boring and dull. Awful pacing, flat characters, animation that seriously tanks once the first arc is over, uninteresting plot twists, lifeless visual storytelling, rote drama, and only the occasional cool moment that actually works- as well as Kevin Penkin’s legitimately excellent soundtrack (not as good as his work on Made in Abyss, but still damn impressive here)- keeps it from becoming a completely agonizing disaster. Is it the worst show I’ve seen? No, and frankly, it’s not even close. I’ve seen worse misogyny in Guilty Crown. I’ve seen more unforgivable failures of basic storytelling in Future Diary. I’ve seen worse isekai worldbuilding in Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody. I’ve seen more gag-inducing moment-to-moment storytelling in Shakugan no Shana. And as bad as the pacing got, at least it never reached the level of that one part in Zetsuen no Tempest where a single conversation drags on for 3 whole episodes and doesn’t have any impact on the plot’s trajectory. Shield Hero isn’t the Worst Thing Ever(tm), it’s just a complete waste of time that tries to pretend it’s something worth taking seriously.

The really sad thing is, looking back on it now that I’ve finished it, I think this show could’ve worked. I think there’s a version of this story out there that hits pretty much all the same beats but actually makes them land, that truly challenges Naofumi and lets him fail and be wrong so he can rise above his mistakes, that develops the supporting cast into genuinely interesting and endearing characters, that poses genuinely challenging moral complications in the dark topics it explores. I highly suspect that most of Shield Hero’s popularity comes from what it could have been more than what it actually is. By dropping so many edgy, shocking ideas in its first arc- rape, slavery, a protagonist driven by hatred- it created a space where people could imagine their own version of how these pieces would all play off of each other. But the version of Shield Hero we got isn’t one that actually pays off that potential. The version we got is built on an irreparably selfish foundation, too cowardly and callous to accomplish anything genuinely shocking or challenging, fit to wallow in the toxic fumes of its own self-righteous angst and throw a middle finger to the world without a single ounce of introspection. It’s arrogant, it’s pathetic, it’s craven, and it’s just unpleasant to sit through. Don’t bother checking this one out, it’s not even worth an ironic hate-watch. It’s just a whole lot of nothing. Very, very exasperating nothing.

Final score is 3/10, and let that be my final word on the subject. Meanwhile, if you haven’t watched Re:Zero set, go watch Re:Zero, because that show kicks Shield Hero’s ass in the dark isekai department so hard that I doubt Naofumi’s ass will ever recover.

One thing I haven’t really enjoyed about the Shield Hero adaptation is they keep sanding down the more unlikable or questionable elements of characters in order to make them more... idk... likable? But it cheapens their character arcs.

Naofumi buys Raphtalia over the other defective slaves in his budget because he can pretend she’s Myne and enjoy watching her suffer. He rationalizes treating her illness because he doesn’t want her dying before she recoups his cost. All of the things he does for her are pragmatic at best because he’s so messed up post-Myne that he hates Raphtalia just for being the same sex. But the anime paints it like he buys her because something about her calls to him and just shows her taking care of her without a rational. The anime is almost more from Raphtalia’s POV. And there’s nothing stopping the anime from giving Nao’s POV since you hear his thoughts plenty.

Raphtalia is more cool with murder too. Like, she’s not a blood knight, but she doesn’t just knock people out when they pose a threat to her life or declare that if she kills a man who delights in torture and used to whip her and her friend for funsies, she’ll be just like him.

And now I’m hearing that the newest ep has Motoyasu actually use two whole brain cells and not defend Myne once she’s forced to confess she lied. (Can’t see the ep yet so ignore me if false.) And that’s just... so OOC. He’s supposed to pig-headedly support her and insist she’s innocent even after the queen proves her guilt beyond any (un)reasonable doubt. I know the anime isn’t likely to get three seasons and it’ll take at least that long to reach his character development, but his blind and unwavering defense of Myne and women in general is kinda a major part of it and I am unhappy.

winter 2019 anime review so far!

Now I’ve watched at least two episodes of each show of this season (that I have chosen to watch) and I must say that I don’t think this is too bad of a season. Without giving too many spoilers, I’ll share what I think about them so far!

Boogiepop wa Warawanai: animation’s great so far. It’s spooky but really interesting. I love the op, I just listen to it on repeat for an hour. Sometimes the story is a bit confusing, but that might just be me, as I get confused when shows. books jump ahead/ back in time without much indication. I’m able to figure what’s going on eventually, though. It’s really, really good.

Dororo: at first I thought it would be more of a show for younger audiences, cause the main character is a little kid, and personally, I never really enjoyed series whose protag was younger or waaay older than me. But nope. It’s not!! It’s a dark samurai kind of thing! And I love that! It’s freaky! Baby Hyakkimaru is frickiden terrrifyying I could get nightmares from that sunovabish. But animation is great and the op is great and I’m suuuper excited for it~

Egao no Daika: imma be honest, I didn’t think I’d like this show at all. It didn’t have a really enticing premise, actually, I’m not sure why I decided to watch it at all???? But I did. And ho. It’s… completely different from what I expected. No spoilers, but it’s— like- it pretends to be a cheery and simple mecha anime about a princess. then it kinda gets a bit dark. and it’s good. and i really like the character designs.

Endro~! : i’m a sucker for cute magical girl shows. it’s really, really cute *squeals* i can’t contain my heart at the cuteness it just **screammmmamammams**** guilty pleasure? probably. but it’s cute. did i say that already? i like the character designs and the voice acting~~

Grimms Notes the Animation: i’m always a little skeptical with video game adaptations, but some have actually turned out to be really good. this one though, as it is from a video game, has nice, detailed character designs, of which i am a sucker for. animation, meh, story, meh? but it’s not horrible. i might drop it, if it doesn’t pick up cause it’s a little slow but oh well.

Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka: hmm. i thought this one’d be bad as well but i thought i’d try it just in case, so I’m glad that I did. the animation is okay, could be better in some aspects, but the action scenes are really nicely choreographed. and magical girl rapture is Hot i mean Hot i love the character design! it seems like something i would design!!!! i like how it’s delving into the darker aspects of battling monsters? i’m seeing some ptsd action going on. can’t say i hate it. it’s more realistic than most others of these kinds of anime.

tate no yuusha no nariagari: i think i already wrote about this, so if i’m repeating myself, oopsies. but this is important to reiterate!! this! show! is! fufkkcing! amazing! i read the manga! one of my fav mangas! animation is great! character designs are nice! specially older raphtalia! Hot! I love the action! i fucking love naofumi! i named one of my own characters after him! it’s so great!!!!! the anime is definitely doing the manga/ ln justice. i can die in peace. So GODDAMN GOOOOOOOOOOOd if you aren’t watching it you fucking should or i will, boil your teeth. thanks for tuning in.

I feel like as someone who is both a browser of the shield hero fandom and a watcher of the show I feel like I can actual explain some of this stuff better but not fully since I’m mostly limited by things like the anime, manga, and some stuff useful information from fanfic that explains stuff better then the show as well as some information I gathered from the fandom. So I guess I will start with freeonbservationcheesecake stuff and then explain other stuff if asked. Btw there will be spoilers for anime watchers or people who have yet to star the series.

1. The first main character, Naofumi Iwatani, suffer a-lot because he got summon to the world in a country that literally hate him because there exists a church that makes him out to be the devil and the other three heroes as saints (due to the shield hero being a god for a country called siltvelt which is mirrored version of melomarc, where humans are slaves and Demi-humans are not as well as the other heroes being seen as devils; as well as other things), the king of melomarc hates his guts (but not because of a previous shield hero but because the during a war with the country siltvelt, the king last living relative, his sister, ended up dying to what I believe to be essentially tiger demi humans when she was trying to make peace with king of siltvelt, so as such, the king hates everything related to siltvelt which includes the shield hero since he is symbol to the Demi-humans, which he also hates for the aforementioned reason), a literal bitch copycat amber heard (that is so much fucking worse) falsely accuses him of rape (after stealing everything he was given and left him with nothing but clothes on his back as well as manipulating him earlier when she was pretending to be ally to force him to buy very expensive and good gear for her) which make him a outcast that makes it very difficult for him since he has only two Allie’s at beginning of the preparation for the second wave (first for Naofumi), these character are, the side character erhard( I think that is how you spell his name: a blacksmith who is the only one that truly believe Naofumi when he is in melomarc, not mentioning the queen of melomarc since she can’t do anything due to politics regarding the heroes and whatnot) and the second main character we are introduced to Raphtalia (who Naofumi first meet as sickly raccoon-tanuki, is that how you spell it, demi human child slave that he ends up buying, out of both pity and kindness, and instead of treating her as property, treats her like a queen, where she ends up going through aforementioned age through leveling experience and ends up becoming a 18 year old girl both by appearance as well as mentality), and the other heroes which I will explain in the second one.

Now does Naofumi feel entitled to everything… no, not at all, he only feel entitled to the rewards he earned, payment for getting jobs done/saving villagers (though sometimes he more fair and offers things like pay me half now and then pay me the other half when I come by here again or asks for something that equivalent to what the payment he wants is; sometimes he does stuff for free, only requesting information in return if the lands are things war torn or poverty stricken lands), and gets not only his name cleared but also revenge on both the king and bitch by not only removing their royal titles but also renaming them to trash for king and whore/bitch for well bitch

2. Naofumi Isn’t the only competent person: he is the only competent cardinal hero right now since the heroes believe the world they are in is a game not reality due to all video game like things and games they played in their world being similar to world their in, even the some of the heroes show they are smart enough to do some correctly but this is mostly blinded by pride and basking in a fake-reality they have made for themselves

As for the other competent people there are the queen of melomarc (why? First, She abolished and outlaw a church that was one of the main cause for the kingdoms problems as well as supported the whole Demi-human and shield hero discrimination after managing to get themselves expose to the public and expose their true intentions to overthrow the crown; two she immediately cleared the shield heroes name after she returned; three she immediately supplied the shield hero with a naval army after learning about a wave that was going to happen near the island of cal Mira within a limited time frame; four she is the most reasonable ruler outta all the people in Raphtalia world), Erhard (the blacksmith), Raphtalia (not going write down everything because it’s way too long), Aultcray aka the king of melomarc/trash( is fully competent, was only blinded by years of grief and hatred after bitch manipulated and used that against him with the false accusations but is shown after a certain event to be incredibly humble and wise), Lord Van Reichnott (a brief appearance but he automatically knew Naofumi was innocent after he was falsely accused by bitch for kidnapping the second princess and brainwashing her and reveal to one of the nobles who actually doesn’t enslave Demi-humans) and then you have all the heroes (except three of the legendary heroes) as well as few people (Therese and others I will not name since the anime hasn’t cover them) are proven to be very competent even if some of them are evil.

There are others that appear in the light novel but I’m not going to go over them since I haven’t read the light novel nor has the anime gone over them yet

3. Bitch is the one Observationcheesecake is talking about but she is the definition of evil and hated for very good reasons(if you want to find out read the wiki for shield hero it literally explains everything better than I can): there are other evil girls but they come later on in the series in the light novels

There are what can be considered neutral beings like fitoria (An ancient legendary royal filolial that is tasked with protecting the world no matter) who will kill the current legendary heroes if one dies or they refuse to work together in order for new heroes to be summon to fight or lawful evil beings like ost who is connected to ancient mythical beast know as the spirit tortoise which is one the four guardian beasts that protect the world by creating a barrier made from the souls of living beings that it has killed

4. Basic explanation: Naofumi doesn’t rape, whipped innocent Demi human children to death, starve, or does cruel and demented things to Demi humans regardless of age and gender (yeah it is that dark)

Instead he treats them as normal people that are only considered slaves to him as job ranks (sorta like a class system from rpg games) since his shield makes it so that anyone registered to him as a slave gains a rather substantial percent bonus to leveling up while providing Demi humans and any monster in belonging to him a increase to how fast that aging through leveling thing faster

He only makes Rishia a slave in the anime and light novel as to make sure she doesn’t do anything to betray him (since he has traumatic inflicted trust issues caused by Bitch) as well as to try and give her better stats since at the start her stats are utter garbage (but this reveal to be plot thing but it has yet to be explained nor do I truly know what it is, but she is reveal to be really strong actually but I don’t know why, just look it up on the wiki pls).

5. Oh boy talking about this pedophile shit

The only pedophile shit there is… is well Motoyasu (the spear hero) but this is due to his obsession with angels (and also the fact that he is literally base on a joke of a summoned hero being a haram character just like most isekai characters; this the same with the other heroes like Ren the sword hero being the edgy lone wolf isekai character or Itsuki the prideful hero of justice isekai character that can’t do any evil only good without any repercussions despite there actually being consequences; the only one who doesn’t have thing relating to this joke is Naofumi) and the fact that his mind is practically warp and completely change by something called the curse series of lust (no need to explain just go to the wiki for a explanation on the curse series and how they affect a person) that makes him to have irresistible crush on filo (another main character i will explain when I get to the haram shit), who looks like a Loli and is a loli (don’t ask please just look up the wiki I’m begging you).

Other than that, the “Pedophilia” shit relating to Naofumi and Raphtalia is literally the debate of whether or not she can be considered legal if she looks like a adult, act like adult who just needs a basic lesson on reproduction and certain adult stuff, mentally thinks like a adult who again just needs a basic lesson on reproduction and certain adult stuff as well as if it is legal since she goes from to 10 years to 18 years due to being from the Demi human race of Tanukis (which are rare and special compared to other) but then again I’m not going to explain the whole age thing and instead you read the Wiki it literally explains everything you need to know about things that are considered Non-human (people who look humans but have a variety of traits that make it so that they aren’ fully human) and what the rules are

As for the Filo and Naofumi thing… they are literally father and adopted daughter… he literally states it in both the anime, the manga, and light novel (it literally only the cringey part of the fandom that creates the disgusting stuff; literally ask anyone with a sane thought who reads the light novel or watches the show or even reads the manga… they will say the same thing).

6. Naofumi isn’t op… his only option for attack will slowly corrupt him and make him more unstable while there also the fact he can easily die if use a certain move called blood sacrifice that drains 90% of his hp while also placing a curse that weakens him heavily and leaves multiple open bleeding wounds… Other than that he is literally a immovable object that can only be help by Filo or Raphtalia

7. Naofumi doesn’t have a Haram

His only love interest is Raphtalia or someone else who has yet to appear but there also major spoilers for her

Filo is his adopted daughter, the queen Mirellia is faithful to Ailtcray, Naofumi outright says nope fuck that when the queen suggests a political marriage to Melty (2nd princess of melomarc; heir to the throne) in order to create strong ties with siltvelt (due to war; look at wiki), Ren is in love with eclair but he get a different love interest later on… other than that nothing else, Fitoria has forgotten a lot of her emotions and memories, Kizuna and glass are implied to be a yuri couple (ask people on r/shieldbro on Reddit), I think Therese likes another character.

8. The story is only based around Naofumi morality it is more grey with dark or happy/calm moments sprinkled here and there

9.I can’t believe I have to say this but… every single fandom has a cringe section it is nothing new

10. The female character aren’t held back at all

Something I nearly forgot to add… Naofumi doesn’t recognize his feelings until some time later into the series since… in the manga and light novel Naofumi kisses raphtalia on the cheek and she goes a bit crazy and so assume Raphtalia feelings for him are like father and daughter (which ends up being a running gag where Naofumi is the densest thing in the shield hero universe since he doesn’t know raphtalia have whole kind of love for him) because Raphtalia is freaking out because she has the childish idea that kissing makes you pregnant which is the whole basic lesson on reproduction I was talking about.

We are at end finally… god that took so long

As for the for age leveling stuff ask Reddit or people on tumble or literally use the wiki because I can promise you this: any one these 10 can easily proven or debated with a variety of different answers to choose

As for the comment from Theobservationcheesecake saying what they heard regarding shield hero being similar to Redo of healer… let me just say this: They most likely are same people who support Amber heard still and like the Bitch character I describe which I say is far far worse that amber turd or think the web novel of ROTSH is somehow canon when it isn’t even written by the same person and is a gigantic mess of writing as well as said to be not canon: they most likely only watch two episodes of rise of the shield hero and the moment they got to whole slave part they decided to quit right there and not watch anymore for any sort of explanation or demonstration Naofumi character

As for why I defend this anime… this one of the few Good Isekai anime that isn’t too cringey or repetitive in its themes and something I actually like since it had realistic characterization with well made characters, interesting fantasy additions, pretty good fight scenes, has both amazing dub and sub voice acting (with Naofumi for the dub being voiced by the early Billy kametz who is phenomenal voice actor from things like the Lego tv show monkie kid where he voiced macaque of persona 5 royal Dr Marilou Takuto), there are some episodes that some pretty good humor that plays on raphtalia lack of certain knowledge i mentioned or Naofumi being the densest thing alive as well as variety of other things. The only thing so far wrong with the show is that it cuts out some stuff like some explanations or certain scenes or certain parts that help keep on track with the show… also season 2 of shield hero (which tremendously hype up) only did few things but has a lot problems like rushing entire arcs or ruining character development or breaking certain rules that have been established in both the light novel and manga… so if you want to give the show a shot just make sure you look up on YouTube “Everything missing from Shield hero season one or two”

The dumbest thing i ever hear from isekai anime is "Well, slavely is legal and normal in this world so it's completely okay for me to parkate in it" and we are supposed to think the guy is being the smart one.

Okay I have no idea what anime this is but they should set it on fire and then force all of the writers to read Kindred.

Shieldsekai episode 12 was pretty fun. The Glass bitch from last episode beat most of the heroes easily, but struggled with Naofumi, and real quick this is where I’m kind of scared for the future of the story. Because here’s the thing, everyone seemed against the Shield Hero because haha shields can’t attack, but the sheer extremity of the setups against him as well as the King saying in this episode that the Shield Hero broke his family or something leads me to believe that there’s something about the Shield Hero specifically that causes everyone to hate him. Which is cool and all, but then Naofumi seems to be the only of the Heroes with the Curse weapon variant and is the Hero that people are taking the most interest in, and despite being like 20 levels lower than every other Hero, he seems to handle enemies a lot better than most of them. And like, that could just mean that the other Heroes kinda suck, which is fine, but if they reveal something like the Shield Hero who looked to be the worst is actually like, prophetically the best, I’d feel like that’s kinda boring. I mean that could probably be justified, but I don’t know. Again we’ll see what happens, because there’s still a lot of unanswered questions and stuff. Hell this episode ends with some soldiers creating a setup that was supposed to frame Naofumi as murdering Melty, which would be treasonous as fuck. She sure as shit didn’t seem in on it though, and I sincerely doubt the king is either, so the corruption and bias against the Shield Hero is spiralling out of control. There’s definitely a lot of intrigue in the plot, and I’m super glad that, with this being a 2 cour show, there’s room for it to breathe a bit. Also this episode had Naofumi throwing hella shade at the king, which is literally always fun. I’m not gonna pretend Naofumi’s a great guy but with how against him like the entire nation is, it’s borderline euphoric to see Naofumi shit on the royals. This show makes me thrive on spite and I love it. Uhhh yeah that’s about all I have to say.

SUPERVERSIVE: “The Rising of the Shield Hero” is the worst kind of isekai

“The Rising of the Shield Hero” is everything wrong with the isekai genre. It just pretends otherwise.

The show is a trick. It pulled the wool over your eyes. The first twenty minutes or so are some of the worst I’ve ever seen in the genre. They do basically everything wrong – give us a boring protagonist whose only trait is “kind of nerdy”, make his reaction to being forcibly kidnapped into a fantasy world bizarrely blase, and make the fantasy world itself as generic a medieval setting imaginable. Everything it does it does badly, and the worst of all is that reaction. Almost every protagonist of these sorts of stories reacts the same way to being ripped from their homes and families against their will – bland acceptance. It is bizarre, and strikingly unrealistic. This kid had a job. He had a family. And his reaction is seriously just going to be “Eh, let’s see what’s up?”

“Log Horizon” had a similar problem, but because “Log Horizon” is actually a great show that manages to push itself beyond wish fulfillment fantasy it explores the backstory of its protagonists and recognizes their inherent tragedy, which at least lightens the blow. To be so obsessed with an MMO that you’re not even unhappy about being stuck there implies something seriously messed up about your real life – and we do, in fact, learn that our protagonist Shiroe used to be suicidal. “Log Horizon” knew its characters weren’t normal. “Shield Hero” completely ignores this, and it’s absurd.

Of course the main hook of “Shield Hero” is that look guys, it’s totally not a wish fulfillment fantasy at all! The Shield Hero was accused of rape and everyone hates him now! His life sucks! Isn’t that interesting?

And that’s the trick. That IS interesting! The problem is that that’s not the show – not even a little bit.

We are twelve episodes into the show. That is a single season. Let’s explore where the Shield Hero is at:

He is the most popular hero by far among the people of the land. Everyone loves him

He is easily the most powerful hero, to the point that the other heroes are referred to as his “servants”

The king who hates him is so much of a non-threat that the Shield Hero basically spits in his face and walks off afterwards scot-free

He has a harem featuring a buxom raccoon girl and two lolis. Not one, but two of the people in his harem refer to him as “master”

His original two main antagonists, the Spear Hero and Malty, have been reduced to Team Rocket villains, except not nearly as funny

The last real moment of hardship for Naofumi (our titular Shield Hero) came in episode 4. Yet even here we see the problems pop up. Here Naofumi gets into a fight with the Spear Hero; if he loses Rapthalia, his buxom raccoon companion (technically a slave, but yeah, no), will be free to leave his party.

You know what would have been cool? If Naofumi actually lost the fight. Except…he doesn’t. He wins, until the Spear Hero cheats. Except it doesn’t matter, because Rapthalia stays with him and now the other heroes realize he’s actually not so bad. Even when the Shield Hero loses, he wins!

And that was literally the last time in the series we see Naofumi suffer for longer than a couple of minutes. Episode FOUR of the show. Yeah.

Naofumi is the worst kind of isekai protagonist: An edgy badass with a harem of hot chicks and lolis, except he’s SO badass and EDGE-EE he doesn’t actually notice how totally into him they are, and this makes him EVEN COOLER (we even get an awful, cringey hot springs scene for good measure). He’s the most powerful, most beloved, most desired, and most awesomest hero in all the land. Girls want him; guys want to be him.

The false rape actually helps the wish fulfillment. All of those twelve year old boys who feel like the world always has them down, man, who nobody understands, they can relate to the Shield Hero. They’re edgy loners too, but in reality if only everyone appreciated them they’d be the greatest hero in the world with a harem of beautiful women, exactly like the Shield Hero!

The animation is mediocre. The action is mostly mediocre. Some of the characters are all right, but the lead is Just Another Isekai Protagonist, with extra EDGE-EE. And yet, it really is probably the best isekai since “Log Horizon”.

And what that tells us about the genre isn’t good.

Skip “The Rising of the Shield Hero” and turn on “Log Horizon” instead. You’ll be glad you did.

No worries, I haven’t talked about why yet.

The thing is, ever since I started being an active member of the anime “community”, such as it is, back in 2018, I’ve been hyper-aware of every show that stirs up a lot of combative opinions. Darling in the Franxx, Goblin Slayer, Shield Hero, if an anime stirs up a controversy, I end up paying a lot of attention, even if I’m not actually watching the show itself. And that inevitably ends up coloring my opinion on the show. Because 9 times out of 10, the controversy stems from the show (supposedly) leaning into the kind of retrograde, toxic garbage that I hate more than anything in anime. If you’ve been around for my binge-watches of, like, Guilty Crown, Future Diary, Zetsuen no Tempest, you know that nothing sets me off quite like pretending sexism is meaningful and important.

I haven’t seen Shield Hero yet, so I may be unfairly judging it. But everything I’ve heard about it leads me to believe that it’s going to indulge heavily in those exact instincts. Like, the main character is a jerk who purchases underage slave girls who fall in love with him and we’re supposed to see him as the hero for doing so. And from what I’ve gathered, the whole concept is basically pandering to incel wet dreams about sticking it to the Chads and Beckys of the world. I can’t conceive of a scenario where this show won’t be on some level agonizing for me. Also, it’s become all wrapped up in toxic fandom stuff, because a bunch of the show’s angriest fans tried to defend sex pest Vic Mignogna by comparing him to Naofumi, i.e. a poor, innocent nice guy whose life was “ruined” by some jealous bitch who was just out for attention and power, and, well, that really kinda tells me all I need to know about what kind of mindset this show panders to.

Again, I haven’t see it yet, so it’s possible some of the anger is overblown. But considering everything I’ve heard about it (and that plenty of people I trust have been the ones voicing these concerns), I have every reason to believe that Shield Hero is exactly the kind of show that would leave my blood boiling on a regular basis.
