november is almost over! how’s nanowriting going?
Ahh thank you for asking, anon! I am somehow shocked and over the moon to be able to announce that I met 50k on Monday/the 28th and am officially a nanowrimo “winner”!
Overall, I’m really surprised and proud of myself for sticking with it and I am already vowing to do it next year and possibly camp nano in the spring (where you set your own goal). I’m also toying with the idea of using it for some fanfic motivation to get back to full length fics possibly!
But it went really well! I went in with a very different mindset to my usual writing goals and said this is about quantity not quality. (Which. Ooooof. That was hard) and I told myself to just write what I could each day whether that was over or under the daily goal I would need and to go in whatever order I was inspired to. I only got stuck a couple times. I only skipped one day. And I finished two days early! My “novel” isn’t finished, but it’s definitely the bulk of the way there. I’m going to allow myself a break for a bit, get caught up and back in the swing of prompts, and then I will start massaging it into chronological order, editing, wrapping up and seeing where we go from there! I would love to turn it into a workable manuscript to query but we shall see✨❤️
I so so appreciate all the support from y’all. Felt like I had an army of future readers (no pressure) to make proud and hopefully I did!

Here's Everything You Need to Know About RDMO!
The first Rough Draft Month will begin on November 1st, 2024.
Rough Draft is a 30-day creative challenge led by a small group of writers and artists seeking to find joy and community in the creative process.
What is a "Rough Draft"?
Every great piece of art or literature starts as an idea - but it doesn’t stop there. A rough draft is your first attempt at taking on your creative project from start to finish. This process can be very daunting - but that's why we're here. RDMO will help you achieve your goals in a fun and community focused way.
Sharable Information: Instagram | Tumblr
Goal Tiers
Instead of a main challenge, we created 4 tiers (60K, 50K, 30K, and Flex) to create flexibility for your unique project. Examples of a Flex Goal include lines for poetry, scenes for screenplays, panels for graphic novels/cartoonists, and more.
This year we will be tracking our progress together on trackbear.app
Pick the goal that fits your project and join us!
🗻 Mountain Trail (60k)
🌳 Forest Trail (50k)
🌊 Waterfall Trail (30k)
🌙 Moonlight Trail (Flex Goal)
We've created challenge maps to guide you along your trail.
You can also use these graphics we created to tell others that you plan to participate. Get the word out!
Community Events
One of the best parts about November creative challenges is the mutual support and encouragement during such a big project. Join our Discord to participate with the RDMO community!

Indie books to support instead of NaNoWriMo
Hi, have you been watching the implosion of NaNoWriMo? I have, what a mess that is. Well I have had an idea! No, not another challenge, there are plenty of other people have already made some suggestions. What I'm proposing is that this year, instead of donating to NaNoWriMo consider buying an indie book instead. Even if you've never donated before consider supporting an indie author.
INDIE AUTHORS! ATTENTION, pitch your book in the reblogs if you would never touch AI with a ten foot barge pole! Don't forget to tell us where to buy!
READERS check out the reblogs for some cool books and consider supporting an indie author.
Also even if you're not pitching don't forget to share this around!

My First Writeblr- An Introduction
I’ve used tumblr on and off for over ten years but wanted a blank slate now in time for NaNoWriMo 2023 and all the future writing projects I’m devoting myself to. Also highly inspired by all the cool writing blogs I’ve discovered so far since restarting this account <3
About Me:
My name is Char or Charlotte (she/her), I’m 25 and live in the Pacific Northwest in the US
I write literary fiction now, but have kept up various personal essay projects and poetry over the years primarily through my private newsletter!
I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Lit with a soft spot for the Gothic and Romantic eras.
Nothing published yet, but since I am finally out of school I am entering a new phase of creative freedom that feels very encouraging.
Fun extras: I’m a virgo sun, pisces moon (yes, it does hurt), my cat’s name is Brad, I am also a fiber artist, musician, home renovator, perfume enthusiast, and chronic illness advocate.
My WIPs:
Tumblr media
Project Amgydala (tentative title: Ballad of a Blue Whale) Novella- Literary Fiction/Surrealism Status- Draft 1 complete at around 33,000 words 2024 Goal- First revision/draft 2 Synopsis- Maren Hara, a recent graduate, moves back in with her father and turns completely inward. She removes herself from the life she created throughout university and begins walking from sunset to sunrise, looking for something she cannot put her finger on. This leads her to Devereaux's Salvation, a jazz bar seemingly from another era, whose eager manager and illusive owner begin to crack through Maren's walls and bring her back into humanity.
Tumblr media
Project Corvidae (tentative title: I Want to Build a Home with You) Undetermined- Literary Fiction/Light Mystery/Horror Status- Plotting and beginning first draft 2024 Goal- Complete outlines and give draft 1 my best shot Synopsis- In the wake of the death of her family matriarch, portrait painter and former performance art prodigy Leonie Richards finds herself on the receiving end of her grandmothers vast literary legacy and her eclectic, spirit filled home. Alongside her uncle, the art store clerk, and a host of portrait clients she begins to unlock the secrets of the final years of her grandmother's life.
Tumblr media
Mind Over Matter- this is actually backstory for Leonie from Project Corvidae and seeks to shed light on her past performance art pieces and the relationship between her and her grandmother. Light body horror, unsettling women, the works. One of These Nights- a slice of life, Murakami-inspired piece of an American expat living in Tokyo trying to ground herself within a new language. Digs into themes of friendship and social anxiety. Lots of fun music cameos. a green pea moon- my FAVORITE. My little baby. A surrealist romp through the dream world and how it relates to the joy and fear of being queer and letting yourself be loved. Near and dear to my heart.

Ways to add to your Word Count (For Nano):
Write any scene (it doesn’t have to be in order).
Write dialogue.
Outline or write some plot points.
Don’t delete. If you remove a scene, a paragraph, a line: count it. You wrote it. It counts.
Write setting descriptions.
Write character descriptions.
Write last line ideas.
If you have other ways to add to your word count, you can share them here to help other writers.

With NaNoWriMo going full evil (check that tag out for details), I've deleted my account with them. Like with the other decisions to quit pro-AI services, this left me feeling kind of empty.
So, I decided that I'm still gonna try to write as much of my novel as I can in November, but just treat it like the visual artist hashtag challenges instead.
For networking, sharing updates, and general writing fun times, I propose the challenge be done under #NovelNovember (which probably exists, but I couldn't find it).

Day 5
Remember to take care of yourself
Tumblr media
Don’t forget why you’re writing in the first place: yourself. One of the main reasons you should be writing is so you can enjoy the process, and if you burn out, who’re you writing it for?
Remember to take regulated breaks. Maybe I’ll make a post talking about how exactly to go on breaks during NaNoWriMo.

🌼Art/Writing Introduction🌼
🌿About Me🌿
My favourite genres are fantasy and sci-fi
I am a very slow reader (sometimes, I write faster than I read???)
My art is heavily inspired by manga art, though I experiment with style quite a lot :)
🌿My Current Projects🌿
Taylaron's Story
Tumblr media
A cottagecore vampire novel 🌼🧛🍃
Follows a 15-year-old vampire in a fantasy world
Foraging, magic, friendship :)
It was my NaNoWriMo project
I am uploading it as an audiobook to YouTube!
Blurb:
Taylaron is a 15 year old half-vampire who ends up alone in a country far from home, struggling to keep afloat. Not many vampires immigrate here, so he has to buy overpriced blood at international markets just to feed himself.
He meets a mysterious new necromancer friend, who spends her time trying to keep her sick sister from getting sicker. Can he help her in time, and can he finally reunite with his own family?
youtube
Israphaellia's Adventure
Tumblr media
Fantasy + Sci-Fi Manga (full watercolour!)
It's set in the same world as "Taylaron's Story" but a few years later, when the characters are in magical university.
It's a sequel to a comic I made as a teenager, but you don't have to read the original to understand this one.
I am uploading it as a "dubbed comic" to YouTube! :)
Blurb:
Just after graduating from Moonrise School of Elementalism, Israphaellia is struggling to choose which magical university she should attend. She worries about getting assignments done on time and keeping in touch with friends attending different universities. However, what she really should have been worried about is the new adventure one of these catch-ups will send her on.

I've seen people on here praising Scrivener for a tweet they made that seemed critical of NaNoWriMo without realizing that they also made an official statement coming out fully in support of NaNo and dismissing any of the other concerns about the org.
They are responding to emails about this by belittling concerns about the org and reiterating that they believe what interim direction Kilby Blades is telling them and prioritize the longevity of the org over writers and NaNo participants, despite admitting they don't expect NaNoWriMo to last out the year.
Love how when MLs pointed out that Kilby was the only staff left, she called that "spreading misinformation" but now that's it's convenient to her to play "poor widdle unpaid volwunteer 'dats all awone" she admits it to play on sponsor's sympathy.
This really sums it up...
Tumblr media
(and, of course, they ARE aware because people have been in talks with them about it for over a year so it's absolutely the second thing)
I've seen a lot of people spreading that earlier tweet when they seemed in opposition so I hope people will help spread the word about their official stance.

Anyone have advice for getting through that transitional chapter of your book, aka in my head as a kind of filler chapter, where you need it but really you only need the ending so that it can set up the big things that are going to occur in the next chapter and rest of the book? Because I'm sitting over here looking at the chapter title and am just sitting here waiting for who knows what.

*theres a twang of broken a string and a broken deal looks like someone finally told the mage most of what you did
*their apprentice will probably be here to collect their things soon after they get back from the ice fields that is
*so it might take a week and they definitely wont look on any of you kindly after this
*but they're the only one that you'd even be able to catch a glance of at this point and they already don't so it doesn't make much of a difference
I-I’m so sorry-[he looks wrecked]
For what it’s worth, I- I really loved you, you didn’t deserve that, I’m so sorry-[tears slip down their cheeks]

I have written four complete novels thanks to NaNoWriMo. I am preparing my fifth novel for this November, taking advantage of Camp NaNoWriMo to do so.
Speaking of preparation, my video shares the 5 P's that have been key for me to finish my novels.
Those P's are:
Passion, Patience, Preparation, Perseverance, and Partners
I go over them in detail in this 12 minute video. I also go over the ins and outs of being a planner, panster, or planster. If you can watch and give a like, I will be very grateful! I hope my tips help you!
