Prompt (08/24): present (headcanons)

shit that hisoillu do in my opinion (literally bullshit that make me laugh, they're clowns)

So, yeah. This present prompt is only made of headcanons (I'm tired, and also writing a fic would have felt like overwriting the manga, so... I'm not doing it, nuh-uh). But it feels like this list should be yelled into the darkest and coldest nights just to hear wolves howling their laughs, asking who these idiots are. Me and @lumizold always talk on the phone and yap about them, and the result is always very funny.

So, 15 hisoillu headcanons (and one is a gon headcanon in disguise).

hisoka has a specific way to smile. he really looks like a fox. illumi can tell the difference between his normal smile and his fox-like smile. he loves more this one.

illumi is always SO mad at hisoka. it's not like he has not a specific, or good, reason. it's just that hisoka's like a cat: he's so troublesome. he first drops a flower pot (he killed too many people during their mission, what a waste of energy), then his needs became too needy and makes someone angry (fell in love with gon, killua, gon, gon, freecss, and again, gon. illumi's so done with this shit).

illumi has a car. he drives the car perfectly (or at least, without crashing the car, but he does not follow the rules). he does not have a license.

hisoka has not a car. he does not drive the right way. still, he has a driver's license. how?????

when the police stops him because he's speeding, he likes to give the officer a playing card from his deck transformed into a driver's license. when the officer notices that the license has a strange texture (too thin, too flexible...), he's already slamming on the gas pedal and speeding away, taking from the police's hands his card with bungee-gum. illumi loves the sudden rush of adrenaline (they do it only when they're together).

hisoka has only two decks of cards. first one, the deck of cards he has since he managed to buy (or steal?) one on his own. the second one is a gift from illumi, took from a house in which he committed a murder. this one is for playing solitaire only, and the back of the cards is golden.

hisoka doesn't need to buy new decks. he just need to use bungee-gum to prevent anyone from stealing cards or destroy them. also, he loves using his solitaire deck for magic tricks. but only when illumi's not threatening to burn a card. or when killua's not trying to tear one. or gon's not trying to eat one.

gon is hisoka's curious boy. he loves to explore the world... by putting everything in his mouth. cards included. he thinks they could taste like bubblegum, like hisoka's aura. hisoka does not appreciate it. neither does illumi. because that's ILLUMI'S gift. that's not gon's lunch.

hisoillu think about their future: illumi's thinking to try and be a better brother to killua, so... bonding time. (probably he'll trying to take alluka again, killua's not having it). hisoka and gon just watch them and play together. so bonding time. hisoka's trying to have a family by stealing these two. illumi appreciate the thought (worst that could happen is killua short-cutting hisoka and illumi taking all of his money (he loves his marriage)).

while at home, hisoka does lots of bullshit pretending to be silly funny (illumi actually laughed once so he's trying to ride this wave until the next scolding).

illumi keeps saying to hisoka that, with his incongruent and blunt manners, is slowly becaming a total clown.

hisoka tends to reply that, if he's a clown, the zoldyck family definitely should accept him... because they're a total circus.

illumi instantly replies shit abruptly, annoyed.

hisoka keeps being smart aleck.

no one really knows how, they always end up making out wildly. no. it's not specified where. no. is better not to know.

Vanessa did a great job as a police officer by:

Neglecting her duties (to hang with Mike and Abby),

Not patrolling/being stationed where she was needed,

Wrongfully threatening to shoot a civilian (not due to legally reasonable reasons),

Protecting and preventing suspects/criminals from facing justice due to favourtism,

Obstructing justice by not turning in her father (child serial killer) and withholding/tampering evidence,

Supplying an untrained/unqualified civilian with police weapons,

Did I mention wrongfully threatening to shoot an unarmed/harmless citizen?

Tasking a civilian to perform police duty in taking down a highly dangerous criminal/suspect,

Refusing to aid a civilian in danger or preventing the danger,

Hesitating to take down her child serial killing father (who also held a knife pointed at her but was happy to threaten Mike because he was endangering his sister??? So you want to shoot Mike for that but your father...nevermind, at least she eventually shot him),

Committing medicine theft or destruction of property and disposing of it improperly. (Prescription medication is a difficult adjustment for your body whether you begin it or stop it as well as being a burden on your finances and she just....threw it).

I'm gonna be frank, Eddie just does not give me the impression that he was bullied all that much in high school to me. Especially as he got older, like he was the school drug dealer, he was not getting beat up by the same jocks who were going to be buying from him later that week. It just doesn't make sense to me!

I'm not saying he was never bullied at all (personally I think he was probably bullied by the people in his grade in like middle school, but leant more into the satanic image by the time he got to high school (which is when the satanic panic wouldve been starting) and people became more afraid to mess with him or it stopped when BS started dealing) or that people can't headcanon and project onto pm. It's fandom, do what you want lol. I've just gotten to the point where fics lose me whenever they claim Tommy/Steve/Jason was going around beating the shit out of him or shoving him in the halls every week or the like. Eddie just does not give the impression that he is scared of the jocks normally. He looks down on them and thinks he's better than them! He taunts them openly in front of everyone and pontificates on table tops.

I think if you take it in that context too, it makes the town turning on him more sinister? Like obviously, satanic panic was only growing at that point, and it was within the last year or two they started pointing at metal and D&D as recruiting centers for satanic cults. (Eddie also like an asshole is walking around with a satanic symbol on his jacket - peak edgy teen in the middle of a moral outcry.) But while people might've been afraid of him, and most definitely talked about him behind his back, that's worlds away from mob violence. The change was startling, even if Eddie might be able to see it on the horizon.

Idk to me that's more of what the hunt the freak line was about. The knowledge that they could turn on you and would if you gave them a reason (or if you want to go with the Eddie is closeted interpretation - if he got outed). I think he probably has been called the freak for a while but honestly I think he's proud of it at this point.

Obviously all of this is up to interpretation, I guess I've just gotten to the point where a lot of the popular fanon interpretation doesn't feel like Eddie to me anymore

Fernando Alonso & His Relationship With Cards

I'm sure we're all familar with the cards on the back of Fernando's Vegas GP helmet by now, but did you know his relationship with cards goes a lot deeper?

I. Magic Tricks

You've probably seen or heard someone at least mention Fernando's propensity for card tricks. As far as I can tell he was doing them(publically) as far back as 2003 all the way to as recently as 2018. Even once performing a card trick, with a condom and a teddy bear(!??!?!??!!), in front of Valentino Rossi who said "How was that possible?"(x)

But how did this start? According to James Allen, "Fernando admits to having been heavily influenced by his grandfather, a mercurial figure, who taught him magic and card tricks, still one of his passions away from the race track."(x) And I'm not sure the validity of this one, because I couldn't find an actual source, but apparently he once said: "My parents are responsible for the two things I like doing most - driving and magic tricks. They bought me my first go-kart and a magician's kit."

In several interviews he described it as his hobby off track, and that he loved learning new tricks and surprising others in the garage with them! So clearly cards are pretty important to him both as a hobby but also to who he is as a person since they've been with him just as long as racing has.

II. Card Symbolism in His Helmets

This is the reason I originally made this post, but I thought I should also explain the origins of his card fascination first. As I said, we probably all remember the cards on the back of his helmet in Vegas, but did you know that wasn't the first time he had cards on the back of his helmet?

From 2008-2013, he used to have a pair of cards on the back of his helmets. The symbolisms of the cards themselves as well as the evolution of their design is really fascinating to me! Even more so with the recent development of the card choice in 2023.

Fernando said he wanted to reference his two titles in some way on the back of his helmet and after his friend sent him several ideas, he decided on having two cards(an ace of clubs and an ace of hearts, sometimes pictured with 05 and 06 on them as well), saying: "I picked the cloverleaf [the ace of clubs - Ed] to give me luck, but the only pity is that it doesn't have four leaves!"(X)

2008.

Here's the very first appearance of the cards! They're displayed flat, with the 05 and 06 clearly visible

2009.

Very similar to 2008, but with a slightly different design, and they're maybe a bit more straight with less shadow?

2010.

This is the first major change! I was sad they didn't have the years on them anymore, but then I realized they're sparkly to match with his signature lightning bolts on the top of the helmet!!

2011.

Honestly I'm still somewhat unsure if this is the actual 2011 helmet? It's pretty difficult to find clear photos of the back of helmets from older seasons. It's easiest to find them on replica sites or auction sites so I'm not 100%? But anyways, I like that this has the championship years on the underside of the cards

2012.

This is when I started getting weirdly emotional about the helmets. Do you see how they've progressed from being a centerpoint to being curled up and sad at the bottom of the helmet? Not listing the year anymore??

2013.

Same thoughts as 2012. And after this season, they cease to exist (just like his ferrari chair in the garage, WOAH CALLBACK), until cards make a reeappearance in his Vegas helmet, albeit in a different form

2013 Monaco(Honorable Mention):

For some reason 2013 helmets were easier to find proper pictures of, so I happened to witness this absolute beauty. The creativity of this helmet genuinely blows me away??? Wanting to keep the card motif, but making sure to incorporate it into the rest of the puzzle piece design?? Mwah! There was another special 2013 helmet but they didn't change the cards at all so I really applaud this one

2023 Las Vegas(The Return of The King):

The magnificent return! But look! The cards are different cards! Instead of being two aces, it's now an ace of hearts, a four of hearts(his driver number of course!) and, the, now iconic, representation of himself as a Joker. I literally could not believe my eyes when this helmet was released and I saw the Joker card, what a fucking silly old man....I really wonder if he felt nostalgic having cards on his helmet again or if he didn't think about it all and was just like, "ah cards because Vegas!!!"

III. Why Does This Matter?

*The rest of the post was factual, this is moreso my personal thoughts on the symbolism of the cards/designs

This post spawned from me recently watching the 2010 Bahrain gp and noticing "hey wait a minute...are those CARDS ON THE BACK OF HIS HELMET!?" It's a really tiny detail that's unfortunately covered up by the HANS device pretty much whenever he's wearing the helmet, so it's really difficult to spot! But I became fascinated with the fact that he had cards on his helmet before that recent helmet, and now here we are!

There's something to me about how the design of the cards evolves over the course of six seasons from the cards being front and center to being smaller, more folded up and closer to the bottom of the helmet. As I said, the 2012-2013 ones genuinely made me depressed because it feels, symbolically, like his hopes for getting another Ace are becoming more and more unlikely and falling away until they eventually fall falt and fade away entirely after 2013 and disappear for basically a decade.

But when they return? They're not the same cards! Instead of representing Fernando's championships, they now represent him as a person, displaying his driver number and his persona of being a Joker!! Though I do think it's interesting he happened to keep the Ace of Hearts, even though he talked more about the Ace of Clubs before. I'm not sure it's actually this deep in reality, but I like to think that it's him not letting his championships(and the lack thereof) define him, but rather letting who he is as a person shine and be the centerpoint instead! But on a sadder note, as @suzuki-ecstar said to me, maybe the Aces aren't there anymore because he's lost all hope for a chance at a third Ace entirely :(

Prob not gonna post for a bit. Might be going on a hiatus. Feel like its a waste of time to post my work on here, in other woc/living machine servers outside of my friendgroups too. Either it being rampant favoritism or something else. This is destroying my mental health. I gotta worry about actually getting my life straight. I can go into more details under the cut! I will no longer be posting my works to Tumblr anymore, for a good while. Untill I feel ready to come back and start posting my works again. If I ever do have a social media presence again for artwork, it will either be on Furaffinity(I'll have more freedom to post stuff with blood given its tagged properly. I am part of that community anyway.) or Bluesky. Do appreciate the support I've gotten over the years, but the woc and especially living machine fandom is actually terrible for artists and a lot of people here do not get the credit they rightfully deserve for their work, me included. You either become a established artist or draw someone's OC who's been in the space for awhile, or nobody cares about the work you put forth. Putting in so many hours into something and not getting a good return for it genuinely can make artists quit what they do because its hella discouraging. Especially in my case where I was surrounded by people with similar skill level and they got way more attention than I did. Made me realize this revalation here when I asked around and other people felt the same way as me. Y'all really need to support less popular artists here. This happened to me twice, in a WOC server, and a server for living machine. They only want to see the artists they know and care about and want nobody else in their circle. Kinda sad. Smaller means the toxicity is more apparent, and boy is there quite a handful of people that angered me in the LM space. Its basically one big friendgroup because of how closed off/small it is, you try to join and you're ostracized. So you as a stranger, get looked down upon and casted aside easily. Doesn't matter how good you are. Thought branching out was gonna be good for me, it was the opposite. Hope me editing this clears up the reason why my Tumblr might go on a hiatus from now on in terms of art. I might check in now and again to scroll my tl, reblog stuff. But none of my works will be posted on this site anymore or in other woc/living machine discords beyond my friendgroups, atleast for a good while. Hope you understand. This could've gotten a lot nastier but I held back.
