Orange county coorg
It is endowed with rich natural vegetation and is surrounded by hills from all sides. It is located on the Western Ghats of the Sahyadri Mountains in Karnataka. Once a favorite vacation spot for the British, Coorg continues to be an important coffee-producing district in India. Coorg has three main types of vegetation – the evergreen forests, the moist deciduous forests and the dry deciduous forests. The natives in Coorg are called Coorgies or Kodavas, and are known for their bravery and sports skills (especially hockey).

Closest Airport: Bangalore (260 km), Mangalore (135 km)
Closest Railway Station: Mysore (146 km)
Road: The Mysore – Mangalore highway (NH48) passes through Kodagu. The district headquarters Madikeri (Mercara), is 260 km from Bangalore and 120 km from Mysore. The distance from Mangalore is 136 km and from Cannanore and Tellicherry, it is about 115 km. There are regular buses plying from these places to Madikeri.

Raja’s Seat

It is an ideal place to explore the exquisiteness of Coorg and was one of the most favorite spots of the Raja’s for enjoying the panoramic beauty of sweep of the mist-covered blue hills and valleys with green fields. It is this place where the kings used to relish the sunset and beauty of Coorg every evening. Nowadays, it has been developed into a public garden and is frequented by large number of tourists.
If you have come away to enjoy the natural beauty in Coorg, come to Raja’s Seat, a favourite spot of the kings from where one can see the sweep of the mist-covered blue hills and valleys with green fields. The kings used to sit here every evening enjoying the sunset and beauty of Coorg. Today, the area around Raja’s Seat has been developed into a public garden.
Omkareshwara Temple

There is another lure for the tourists who are religious by heart and it is the Omkareshwara Temple. It was built in commemoration of both Shiva and Vishnu and is almost 200 years old. The stunning feature of this temple is that it is an amazing blend of Islamic and Gothic styles of architecture.
How to get there
There are steamboats across the Narmada river and also two connecting bridges to reach the temple.
By Air
The Airports close to Omkareshwar are at Indore (77 km) and Ujjain (133 km).
By Rail
Nearest Railway Station is at Omkareshwar Road (12 km) on the Ratlam-Khandwa section of the Western Railway which is not a mainline. The other nearest railway station connected to Delhi and Mumbai is at Indore (77 km).
By Road
Omkareshwar is connected to major towns and cities of Madhya Pradesh. There are regular bus services from Indore (77 km), Ujjain (133 km) Khandwa (61 km.) and Omkareshwar Road (12 km). By bus, it takes 2.5 hrs from Khandwa railway station to Omkareshwar.While traveling from Khandwa to Omkareshwar, on the left side of road in the outskirts of Khandwa you can see the memorial to the celebrated singer, Kishore Kumar
Abbey Falls

Located at a distance of 8 km from Madikeri, the charming Abbey Falls is a perfect place for picnics. It is advised that the tourists should make their own arrangements to reach this place before they embark on a tour. It is one of the finest among the tourist attractions in Coorg and should not be missed out at any cost.
How to get there
Madikeri is 250km from Bangalore and 90km from nearest airport in Mangalore.
From Madikeri the falls are accessible by a narrow road to the coffee estate. A path through coffee and cardamom plantations leads to the waterfalls. The roar of the falls can be heard from the road. The best time to visit is early winter when the monsoons have brought plenty of water
Kushalnagar
Kushalnagar is an amazing place to visit in Coorg and a great picnic spot too. The climate in Kushalnagar is completely different from other places in Coorg. The humidity level is much higher compared to Madikeri. There are lots of picnic spots in and around Kushalnagar, some of them are Nisargadhama, Golden Temple, Dubare Elephant Camp and Harangi Dam.

Cauvery Nisargadhama is situated about 36 kms from Madikeri. This is an ideal picnic spot. It is an island in the middle of the river connected by a rope bridge. You can do boating or go for elephant rides as well as visit the elephant training camp run by the Forest Department at Dubare .
Tibetian Golden Temple
Tibetan temple in Coorg
Bylekuppe near Kushalanagar is one of the largest Tibetan settlements in south India. The settlement, set up in 1960, is dotted with several monasteries and the prominent among these are the Great Gompa of Sera Je and Sera Mey and the Namdroling monastery. The Mahayana Buddhist University is at Sera. Another important monastery is the Tashi Lhumpo monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama. The gold-coated Buddhist statues in the monastery are imposing and unique, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Tibetans.
Dubare Elephant Camp
Dubare is an elephant capturing and training camp of the Forest Department of Coorg. Dubare is located in between Kushalnagar and Siddapur on the banks of river Kaveri.
Tusker Dubare
The wild elephants are tamed and trained with the help of other tamed elephants and local tribals. It is a wonderful sight to watch the tamed elephants bath in the river and being scrubbed clean by their mahouts.
How to get there
Dubare is easily accessible from Bangalore. The route from Bangalore is via Mysore, Kushalanagara, Gudde Hosur (4km from Kushalanagara on BM Road), then turn towards Siddapura. About 15 kilometer on the Siddapura Main Road visitors would find a Dubare Camp board.

When the river Cauvery flows downhill, it is joined by two more tributaries – Kanake and Sujyoti. The spot where all three converte (the Cauvery, the Kanika and the Sujyothi) is called Bhagamandala. The temple here, built in Kerala style, has smaller shrines dedicated to various gods. It is about 40 kms from Madikeri
Iruppu Falls
For the religious travelers, Iruppu is a must visit place in their sightseeing tour of the tourist attractions in Coorg. It is at a distance of 91 km from Madikeri and is a renowned pilgrim center that has its association with Rama, the hero of the epic Ramayana. There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva on the River Ramathiratha and on Mahashivratri day lots of pilgrims take a holy dip in the river.

How to get there
The best time to visit the Falls is during the monsoons, when the Falls is at full capacity and is a breathtaking sight.[4] Irupu is situated at 48km from Virajpet, 260km from Bangalore and 120km from Mysore. The Falls can be visited by the highway from Gonikopal to Nagerhole National Park off the Kutta Road after Srimangala.
By air: Nearest is the Mysore Airport may also be used to reach the Falls.
Talakaveri / Talacauvery

River Kaveri which is one of the 7 sacred rivers of Sapta Sindhus of the Hindu scriptures, originated at a place is called Talakaveri (head of Cauvery) in the Brahmagiri hills, at about 4,500 ft above sea level. This place is marked by a tirtha kundike or Brahma kundike (small spring/pond) from where the river emerges as a small perennial spring, but flows underground again to emerge a short distance away. It is about 48 kms from Madikeri.
From Talakaveri, steps lead up to the nearby Brahmagri peak, where the 7 great sages called the Sapta Maharishis had performed a special yagna. From the peak, as well as on the drive to Talakaveri, tourists can enjoy a good view of the misty blue Brahmagiri hills.
