the indian vulture is a large bird of prey native to the indian subcontinent. this bird is sadly critically endangered; they experienced significant population decline after cattle in india were given diclofenac to ease joint pain; vultures feeding on cattle carcasses experienced poisoning, and in 2006 bans on diclofenac were enacted in india, pakistan, and nepal. they are an often misunderstood bird that is typically shy and peaceful in nature, feeding on the dead but not hunting for their food.

I recently illustrated a memo game "Endangered Animal Babies" for Treecer. This memo game contains 72 unique illustrations and 36 endangered animal species. Each pair consists of the parent and the baby animal and all the illustrations were done in watercolor.
I'm really grateful for this opportunity and very happy with the outcome of the game! The game is sold by WWF Finland and Treecer at the moment.

Next up in "that's a pokemon or quirked animal wtf" we have the Indian Giant Squirrel.
Previous entries in the Real Life Pokedex include the bearded vulture which dyes its white feathers with red/orange dirt/mud:
And this doesn't get into crazy natural abilities exhibited by real animals. Or the absolute insanity that is ocean life or insects.

Let’s meet the contestants!
Himalayan vultures live, predictably, in the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau. Very large vultures, their weights range from from 6-12.5 kg (13-28 lb), and their wingspans from 2.56-3.1 m (101-122 in). They exclusively eat carrion and are most common birds found eating human corpses in Buddhist sky burials. Unusually for vultures, they dislike offal and prefer to eat the fleshy parts of carcasses. These vultures are near threatened due to diclofenac poisoning, but are not as heavily affected as many other vultures.
Indian vultures, of course, live in India and Pakistan, preferring open areas. While primarily diurnal, they have also been recorded taking advantage of bright moonlight to scavenge at night. They have wingspans of 1.96–2.38 m (6.4–7.8 ft) and weigh 5.5–6.3 kg (12–14 lb). Unfortunately, they are critically endangered due to diclofenac poisoning, a widespread problem known as the Indian Vulture Crisis.

There are many things about people's cultures that I would like to ask the significance or the why behind it. But I feel like when people hear you ask, "Why?" They feel offended and lash out. I'm genuinely curious, which is why I asked.
You can never learn something without asking why.

Black Vulture - June 2024 Black vultures are beautiful birds when seen in the air. Up close on the ground they are ugly, but when they have their wings spread displaying the white underside, they are beautiful. I took a bunch of images of them flying near our camp. I especially liked the one where I captured one in flight near the palm trees. I didn’t realize that black vultures “fished,” but they appeared to be waiting for small fish to get near the surface in shallow water. Then they would strike. I saw them do this several different times. Maybe they would go for dead fish if it were available, but food is food when you are hungry. MWM
