It is endowed with rich natural vegetation and is surrounded by hills from all sides. It is located on the Western Ghats of the Sahyadri Mountains in Karnataka. Once a favorite vacation spot for the British, Coorg continues to be an important coffee-producing district in India. Coorg has three main types of vegetation – the evergreen forests, the moist deciduous forests and the dry deciduous forests. The natives in Coorg are called Coorgies or Kodavas, and are known for their bravery and sports skills (especially hockey).

KAKKBE:
Famous for being the largest producer of honey in south east Asia, though most come here for the Padi Igutappa temple. This is Coorg’s most important temple. Built as a hunting lodge, the Nalnad Palace is used as a kiddies’ camp, though no one will really mind you pottering

ABHI FALLS

Madikeri Fort was first built by Mudduraja in the last quarter of the 17th century. He also built a palace inside the fort. It was eventually rebuilt in granite by Tipu Sultan who named the site as Jaffarabad. In 1790, Doddavira Rajendra took control of the fort. The palace
was renovated by Lingarajendra Wodeyar II in 1812-1814. the fort makes an interesting study on the overlapping dynasties that settled in Coorg.

Bylakuppe is the second largest Tibetans settlement in India after Dharamshala. This Buddhist Monastery is one of the most popular tourist places to visit in Coorg. Bylakuppe is a Tibetan refugee settlement area established by Lugsum Samdupling in 1961 and Dickyi Larsoe in 1969 and is situated to the west of Mysore district close to Bangalore - Coorg route. The main tourist attraction here is the magnificent Namdroling Monastery. Popularly called as Golden Temple, the Namdroling Monastery was established by Drubwang Padma Norbu Rinpoche in 1963. This is the largest teaching center of Nyingmapa, a lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, in the world and is home to a sangha community of over 5000 monks and nuns. The Golden Temple complex is huge and it houses 40 feet high gilded images of Guru Padmasambhava (also known as Guru Rinpoche), Buddha Sakyamuni and Amitayus. The temple tower is highly ornate. The outer walls flanking the doorway are decorated with huge colorful murals. The doors, red in color, have huge gold knockers and a thick plaited rope with tassels hanging from it. RAJA SEAT:
According to legend, the kings of Kodagu spent their evenings here. But what's unforgettable about Raja's seat is the spectacular sunset that one can enjoy from here and even they can have peace.
KAKKBE:

ABHI FALLS:
Only 7 kms from Madikeri town is the Abbi Falls. The narrow and steep road to Abbi squirms though the dense flora of surrounding coffee plantations. Splashing hard against the huge boulders of rock, unmindful of the crevices and hollows, the water drops at enormous speed accompanied by gushing sounds. A feast for eyes, this white veil of water descends into a flowing stream to unite to the River Cauvery.
NISARGADHAMA:
Nisargadhama is a breathtakingly beautiful island off the state highway, 2 kms from Kushalanagar town and 28 kms from Madikeri. The 64 acre island, surrounded by walking across a hanging bridge.
DUBARE:
At the Dubare a visitor can spend hours simply watching Elephants and of course, learning more about them. A trained Naturalist is at hand to explain the various aspects of Elephant history, ecology and biology. The visitor can not only observe and learn but also participate

MADIKERI FORT:
Madikeri Fort was first built by Mudduraja in the last quarter of the 17th century. He also built a palace inside the fort. It was eventually rebuilt in granite by Tipu Sultan who named the site as Jaffarabad. In 1790, Doddavira Rajendra took control of the fort. The palace
was renovated by Lingarajendra Wodeyar II in 1812-1814. the fort makes an interesting study on the overlapping dynasties that settled in Coorg.
