decided to do some garrance tarot cards (inspired by the incredible @number-one-zara-fan), with garroth as the sun (positivity, success, vitality) and laurance as the moon (illusions, anxiety, and the subconscious)

FIRST POST FOR APHBLR !!

hiii here are some of my redesigns for my MCD rewrite!!! The designs are very rough and are NOT final btw i just felt like posting these sketches

+ one fun fact abt each design :

▪︎ Aph's markings can damage any cloth it touches; the only exception is her cloak. Materials such as leather and metal gain less damage, however she prefers to wear clothes that are lightweight as they complement her style of combat (lots of running, surprise attacks)

▪︎ Garroth's cape was a gift from Dale when he first became a guard of Phoenix Drop. That's why its a lot newer than the rest of his armor

▪︎ Laurance's home, Meteli, trades a lot with pirates, so their clothing and jewelry also follow a similar style. He also wears a lot of accessories such as beads and earrings but i forgot to draw them lmao

▪︎ Nana, like all other meif'wa, has eyes with cat-like properties; yellow sclera, clear night vision, colorblindness, the like

▪︎ Dante used to live in the Eastern Wolf Tribe before meeting Aph, so he wears white padded clothing for camouflage + warmth. Although i might change the design cuz i dont rlly like it

▪︎ Katelyn keeps her hair long despite it being a nuisance in battle because her siblings love to braid them when she's off-duty (also i forgot to draw her scars dammit)

Imagine you live in a tiny coast town in idk fucking Georgia or something. Everything is fine and dandy but one day King Charles and the Pope publicly declare war on your town because the pope told him your mayor kidnapped Prince William. Then, you remember that one guy Will who showed up like four months ago and is pretty quiet and keeps to himself and doesn't do much besides sit in the fields all day. Everyone starts searching for him to get King Charles off your backs only to realize he has completely disappeared.

This also does absolutely nothing to explain why the Pope is backing King Charles, UNTIL you remember your Mayor's DA is actually the Pope's BROTHER who ran away because he didn't want to marry some random royal person he didn't know. Little do you know, that the rando royal is actually Prince William, who has been kidnapped for real this time- by the pope- but is being held in an underground bunker in the okefenokee swamp.

Anyways, you're trying to figure how the fuck your town of maybe 300-ish people is going to fight the british navy and fucking spanish inquisition. The mayor, handling this remarkably well, makes two phone calls. The first to the Mayor of Washington DC, who is lending you the national guard since your mayor saved him while he was being held captive by an anarchist terrorist group one time. The second is the governor of Louisiana, who agrees to lend some humanitarian aid because your mayor walked his daughter home after she got lost on a chicken farm once. Then, the pope decides to pillage and raze the fuck out of Louisiana, partly because they were offering to lend aid, but mostly because the pope knows the governor's son is your mayor's side piece.

Now, your tiny town is full of the national guard and 20,000 cajuns that are simply itching to terrorize some monarchists. Also that bishop that you were pretty sure was just spying on your town comes in and denounces the pope and offers to fight for your mayor. Lastly, your mayor meets King Charles and the Pope at the town limits, and the mayor, ever wanting peace, offers to marry the pope, who takes a confusingly long time to say no.

Then the battle happens and your army of the national guard and 20,000 cajuns absolutely rock their shit before things start to turn for the worse and just when all seems lost Prince William shows up and absolutely decks King Charles in the face, throwing such a legendary haymaker hard enough to be heard throughout the whole battle, ending the fighting instantly.

The Battle of Phoenix Drop was fucking wild.

Y'all remember the time someone possessed Levin and made him run into the forest to Laurance the first time we see him in his full Shadow Knight getup? Levin was baby-baby at the time, if I'm remembering right it was before he was ready to start walking on his own so he was like maybe a year old. I'm debating giving that some long-term consequences.

I looked into it, and apparently babies walking before they're developmentally ready for it can lead to some mobility issues because the fragile bones of the feet aren't ready to bear the weight of the baby until after they've done a bunch of crawling and rolling and things to build up muscle and bone strength. Early walking sometimes leads to deformities or misalignments of the bones and joint problems from the weight of the baby and gravity, which can end up leading to issues with gait, posture, and movement efficiency later in life, and on rare occasions, this can even mean the baby will end up unable to walk at all.

What I'm saying is that Levin should have broken a few baby toe bones and fucked up his little baby knees. What I'm saying is he should have a limp and a falter in his step. Adult Levin should need a brace and a crutch sometimes.

People should underestimate his ability as a Lord and fighter because of this and then get their asses kicked. He should get a secret sword in his cane or crutch and have knives or a magickal focus hidden in the metal parts of his brace. He should lean on his limp to play into expectations and make people think he's weaker specifically so they underestimate him and the forces of Phoenix Drop and send less soldiers than they should. He should make it a strategic advantage.

Aaaaaaand of course, headcanons and fun facts and stuff:

Irene:

Irene’s real name is Aphmau Shala’shaska. Irene is the name she uses in the public eye, to keep some sense of privacy.

She got her name from the Irena flower, a white and indigo flower that grows abundantly throughout the surrounding areas of Scaleswind. It’s best know for its medicinal properties, often used to heal cuts.

Kul’Zak was the one who suggested she come up with a knew name to use.

Aphmau’s grandmother, Sapphire, was cursed by a mage. The curse entails: Should your family ever bare twins, they shall be destined to bring upon death and destruction. They shall be destroy themselves, and neither good nor evil shall truly prevail in the end.

Sapphire’s daughter, Sylvanna, ending up having twins. They were named Aphmau and Raaph.

For fear of the curse, Aphmau was sent away to live with and be raised by a very powerful family friend, named Hyria. Hyria never told Aphmau about her real family, but she raised her as if she were her own, and she taught her everything she possessed could. Which was a lot given her hundreds of years of experience.

Aphmau was raised in the enchanted forest, trained to use her magicks from an early age. She was even taught about witchcraft by Hyria. When she was old enough, Hyria used enchanted ink to draw ruins on her so she could even learn how to actually use witchcraft.

Many people claim to be direct descendants of Irene, but the truth is, she never had any children.

Xavier:

Though he is remembered by history as Xavier the Admirer, his real name was Prince Xavier Laith of O’khasis.

Xavier was the nephew to the terrible king who ruled all of Ru’aun from O’khasis, Evren Laith.

He worked with the divine warriors both before and after they each became divine. He helped de-thrown his uncle, helped to end the wyvern-human war, and even helped seal Shad in the Nether.

He was offered the chance to become divine but declined. His reasoning; in order to obtain a relic, you must first sacrifice that which you love. Xavier only held love for one thing.. Irene.

Even after declining, he was still considered an honorary divine warrior, even if that much had been forgotten by history.

He loved Irene with his entire being, and she, him. But they never truly had the chance to allow that love to grow and flow. First, Xavier was taken prisoner by Shad, being transformed into some kind of beast. Xavier had to fight for control over his body and mind, and it was hard to be around Irene knowing she may not be safe with him. Then, as they were sealing Shad away, there was an explosion of magick, left in Shad’s wake. A shard of Shad’s soul pierced through Xavier’s body, and Irene could not save him. Xavier died and Irene could only watch, unable to heal the magickal wound.

Because of his manor of death, Shad and Xavier’s souls became somewhat intertwined. When Xavier was reincarnated into one Laurance Zvahl, he was born with a fragment of Shad’s soul attached to his own. When Laurance became a Shadow Knight, much like Xavier did, he continued his trend of being nearly impossible to control. And though he too never gained his immortality, he became one of the strongest Shadow Knights to exist. Both in spirit and body.

Xavier has central heterochromia. The outer ring of his eyes are green and the inner, blue.
