has anybody had any success selling dolls or parts on tumblr?

I haven't really seen it very much and last time I used tumblr for sales was maybe back in 2016...?

my collection is becoming a little overwhelming and ...I'm sorta casually thinking to sell ↓

My MYou Bettina male, mature tiny BJD, with his new eye mods! I had to redo those sooner than I had hoped, because I learned that the plastic putty is not a permanent solution for modding tiny heads, sadly for me. I got a new batch of Aves Apoxie Sculpt, so I want to use as much of it as I can, before it gets too old to work with. Hopefully, I will remember to put it in the freezer this time, before it does go beyond saving. DX

I am supper happy with how these mods turned out. I still could have smoothed out a lot of the shape as a whole, particularly at the corners of either side of both eyes. However, working on tiny heads, even with opened eyes, that are much larger than true 1:6 scale action figures. Is still a huge pain in the lower back! I love this tiny dude regardless; I love him so much more each time I work on him some more! I look forward to completing something else, based on Ken Kaneki for him, since he is my fan-art doll based on him. I just want to keep on taking photos of him, even in crappy clothes, or no clothes! Lol! I find him incredibly beautiful, even with my crap-fest of a repaint job and mods! (:

I took a whole bunch of equally crappy photos, because I am super in-love with this tiny doll! I already loved him enough to purchase him, but now I am over the moon! I know I love narrower eye shapes the best, but I kind of thought Bettina already had narrower eyes. I am still wondering if I should have gone with Alan, despite me loving Bettina's mouth shape better.... >___<;;; Not regretting going with Bettina, just wondering. n_n;;

He's wearing the same top I can't recall who I made it for, but I feel it was for my MH Invisi Billy custom. It's a great fit on him, and I quite like it. He's also wearing the five wigs I've made for him so far, and I'll probably need to try to make yet another one, that's more anime-accurate. Try, is the keyword.

Finished my first attempt at a face up! This is MYOU’s Delia, there’s a number of things I’d do differently next time but I got to a point I was satisfied. Tried on some eyes and a wig I had for fun too (don’t have a body since I just got this head to practice)

This might be controversial, but tbh I think the way that recasters are operating now is even worse than it was several years ago.

Like before, most would say that their recasts were [insert company's doll name], so if you knew recasts were a thing and saw a minifee chloe on aliexpress or ebay for $200, you'd know it was fake. Especially on ebay, they used to state straight up in the description that the doll was a recast LIKE THEY'RE LEGALLY SUPPOSED TO.

But now? You have recasters frankensteining a bunch of different recast parts together, giving the dolls customized full sets, new names, and claiming that they're original dolls. The dropshippers all over ebay don't even bother stating that they're recasts, which is illegal, but even if you report them how tf are you supposed to prove they're fakes to the random ebay mods? Even if you specifically hunt down the original bodies and heads that were recast, the new makeup and clothes will make the dolls look different to any non-doll hobbyist's eyes. To make this even more confusing for newbies, there ARE legit bjds being sold by dealers on aliexpress (ufdoll, imomodoll, tiny blind box bjds) so giving a blanket ban for the site can cause misunderstandings.

I tbh don't even understand why they go to such great lengths either if they're looking for a cheap buck. Like why spend time and money making them good clothes, wigs, and makeup? With that amount of effort, you could probably make a simple legit plastic bjd instead.

Plus at this point, those full sets cost the same amount or more as a legit doll from many chinese companies (ESPECIALLY during chinese new year sales). I think the main way to combat recasts for newbies is to promote these afforable legit companies like myou, truelove, asleep eidolon, huajing doll, xaga, doll leaves, etc. After all, the only inexpensive legit company I see recommended is usually resinsoul. There's nothing wrong with resinsoul, and it's a great option for fantasy parts/colors, but most newbies that want a minifee chloe probably won't enjoy resinsoul's sculpts and faceups...

It saddens me, but I kinda see why Resinsoul dolls may not be as appealing as other dolls for newbies on a budget. You see these beautiful dolls on other companies sites with gorgeous clothes and face ups and when you get to Resinsoul and see the dolls wearing cheap wigs and clothing (or they are just naked lol) with the most "meh" face up, I can see why they may not feel as good. It's a real shame because some of the most gorgeous dolls I've ever seen are Resinsouls, I feel like a lot of people who buy them are super creative with their face ups (I guess because the company offer a lot of customization options that attract people who want to make more unique dolls). I really wish Resinsoul stepped their photo game up, if affordable companies like Mystic Kids and Myou Doll have these cute pictures of their dolls, I don't see why Resinsoul can't do the same.

I haven't updated my incomings in forever as I procrastinated on getting bodies for all the obtained heads but .... I now got a ton of bodies, but also got two more pumpkins and needed more bodies (started buying bodies in August and just added a bit more the last days as a preorder I hoped to join didn't turn out... therfore bodies it was)

I have one full doll on my list, but that one will be 2024 I guess, I just want to even out the head/body ratio again.

In the last months I didn't really have the mind to work on dolls, mainly bc stuff wasn't arriving or me in general being fed up of the hobby to a certain degree.

My goal is to start on at least Lavi's wig soon and then paint Adam & him to have them prepared for everything else.

Then I will start sewig for Allen first I guess. Yes of course his outfit need the upgrade and I need to make another wig for him as his hair is short now :') that's a reason I need the other head, I will not risk scratching the current face up.

Oh and snatched those fun resin blobs from Frappzilla.

I repainted my MYOU Doll DouDou in 1/6 scale again, as I didn’t like how messy her last Faceup was, and she claimed a different wig I tried on a whim on her. Purple hair with orange eyebrows just wasn’t working for me.

She is a full set, but I changed the eyes, Faceup, and wig, because even though the default Faceup was cute, I need to paint my dolls myself to bond with them.

I'll need to take better pictures soon, but I finally got my first actual BJD♥️♥️♥️. She's Daisy from Myou; 44cm two jointed torso, large bust, with a different wig. She's a bit tightly strung in my inexpert opinion, but I am extremely satisfied. I ordered her in February and was starting to get a little antsy lol.

My full set Myou Vieruodis was delivered last night! She is so pretty and so tiny. While I love the outfit and shoes she came with, I’m not a big fan of the wig and will probably replace it at some point. I do like the color and length but the wig quality isnt great. There’s a lot thinning on the top of the wig. I guess the headdress covers it but I don’t plan on displaying her always in this outfit. Also the wig covers her cute elf ears! Unfortunately, it may be hard to find a good wig in her size that can show them off but I’m going to keep looking. Overall though I’m very happy with her!!

I repainted my fan-art Ken Kaneki (MYou Bettina male) for the second time. I had enhanced the 1st face up I gave him previously. However, I decided to attempt painting him the way I learned to do 1:6 sculpts, form that one (15 episodes) tutorial I watched. I was impatient however, which I regret to no tomorrow. So, I was able to get most of the pigmented skin texture on there with mostly acrylics. Then I grew impatient, because I was taking too long (it was dumb of me, terribly so!). 

I am still super happy with how he looks despite using pastels and ruining the beautiful subtleness I had going on. I did take progress photos, but they ar more awful than these. I am of course heavily disappointed in my hair strokes -- my eyebrows and eyelashes are horrid. However, I am happy with how much more mature he appears, due to the heavy dark brows, so I’ll probably be keeping them for a while (before I start obsessing and repaint him again!). 

I need to get a new pointy brush, because I managed to already ruin the one I was using to paint my Sephiroth and Leon 1:6 head sculpts. Bettina has much, much larger eyes, and I was still not able to get not-so-clean, but kind of sharp lines like on Sephy. I wasn’t able to do a better job on Leon either, but he has tinier eyes and they were sculpted way off, so I kind of have to cheat with the way I shade his lower eyelid to make it look like they are a more accurate shape. Leaving me to having to pain the lashes on an area that is hard to do so (and yes, I also suck, so there’s that too!). 

Still, I am super happy with my Kaneki fan-art doll so far. I wish he had broader shoulders, and overall, more lean-young-male body proportions, like Kaneki has in the anime. Instead of noodle arms and child-bearing-hips. Besides the proportions, I am in-love with this tiny face! He’s so pretty and has great lips, as he as intended to be female, but can be a very versatile sculpt! (: Now I just need to start making some actual Kaneki inspired clothes and maybe a more accurate wig, as painful as that will be. I was thinking of this wig as his default one, but it makes him look cone-headed. Lol! DX
