FFXIV update, Coils edition (I actually did this before I finished ARR, but hadn't posted on it)

We teamed up as Alisaie's sword to investigate Dalagab fragments and find out the truth of the calamity.... and I teamed up with the usual squad to carry me through it cause its not on roulette (everything died by looking at it LOL but we were here for story)

Yuugao gladly goes along with her, as it means she can see Allagan technology firsthand, she's especially interested in the biotech. (And I'm told that one of the enemies there actually was made by Amon or something?? So all the more interesting to her with how she idolizes him)

We saw the wings and claws of Bahamut and at last the head and heart, still alive... what did that mean for Louisoix's sacrifice then? And he himself was there...! We retreated for the moment though...

Urianger is helping with the investigation too... With some help from the Saint Coinach Foundation, we learn the devices we saw were used to restrain Bahamut, the core of Dalagab's solar collection device, as well as prevent Bahamut from dying... in a state neither alive nor dead...

In the next part, we encounter Nael, the "Ominous Silver Bird" and one of the masterminds behind the calamity... though she's now under the control of Bahamut, taking the name Nael Deus Darnus

Yuugao would be quite interested in those Allagan chimeras...

Her helmet gets blown off, and OH NO SHES HOT!!! And a woman!!

And since EN made it confusing and tried to change canon lol, I'll bring it up again, the Nael in-game has always been a woman, even before being revived in the aether body under the control of Bahamut. I have not played 1.0 myself, but even in the recap quest about the mission to stop her, I don't remember her gender ever being stated, and its especially easy to keep it ambiguous in Japanese, since "he" and "she" don't get used all that often... also here she refers to her younger self as the "weak girl" she once was. Apparently the books say that she DID have a brother who died early on, and she took over his place, but its always been her! Anyway, I'm now a fan cause holy shit she's so cool...... and did terrible things yay!

The irony of being used by Bahamut... Also! She uses the first person pronoun 余, which I've only ever seen emperor-y characters use (Nero fate series, and the Empress in Ciel Nosurge come to mind) so she sounds commanding....

And she dies reaching for her red moon....

And then... we encounter Louisoix himself, but something is off.. he's telling us not to mess with the binding coils, despite the lengths he went to defeat Bahamut...? Is he being used too? Either way, Alisaie is pissed off at that, understandably so...

We can't seem to find a way to the last two, but Urianger ends up pulling Alphinaud into this, since it does involve both their grandfather, and he finds a way to transport us in (and promises not to bring politics into it, he actually agrees it would only cause chaos.... which uh. Alph. Whatever you may criticize your sister for being too attached to the past or whatever, she DOES end up helping Eorzea, and you uh. Made a PMC that lead to an assassination.)

In the next part, we find a bunch of dragons trapped there.... it turns out the Allagans were keeping Bahamut manifested by using them, the wishes of those poor dragons, trapped in a state between life and death... so shutting down the system would free them as well (YSAYLE WAS RIGHT)

And we encounter Louisoix again... who also speaks of the horrible treatment of the dragons by people, claiming their resentment will never die so long as they exist..... Alphinaud realizes there's something more here going on, its not that he's just controlled by Bahamut, but in fact has become part primal himself- phoenix.

Upon defeating him, he's back to the man the twins once knew... and talks about the fight against Bahamut, and how the prayers of the people and his own wishes ended up transforming him, but he let go of that power afterwards, to restore the land, as well as so he wouldn't completely transform... but Bahamut wasn't quite dead, and took him in before he could finish, and the coils started the resurrection process, leading to the current situation...

And the twins get to say a proper goodbye, as he asks them to find something irreplaceable to them they wish to protect....

There's one last fight of course.... the twins clear a path to the heart, and we entered... the atmosphere was incredible, with Answers playing the entire time...! (We cheesed too fast the first time so we went back again to see some more of the fight)

Finally it was all over... the truth of the land's rebirth was with Phoenix.... but if people were to know of it, they would pray and create a new primal, so they decided to keep this truth a secret. Alphinaud's line here actually echos one from one of the first scenes with the twins (which is absent in EN lmaoooo) about how keys aren't just for opening doors, but for closing them as well- and this time we would close the door on Bahamut and Louisoix.

Their paths are different, but they’re aiming for the same goal (and your sister is doing a better job Alph, oooof....)

The truth doesn't change even if its not recorded...

And Alisaie offers a flower to her grandfather, Nael, the dragons of Meracydia, and everyone else who was lost in the calamity....

And so she goes off to find the Eorzea she wishes to protect, instead of simply chasing after her grandfather's will... and protect this land in her own way. And she already has one thing- me (Yuugao is not the kind of person you should be hanging around but- well, she got to mess around with Allagan biotech so she did appreciate that)

Listening to Xenosaga music always makes me yearn for it, I gotta replay the whole series again, still my favorites, and I know we will never get anything like them again, certainly not from monolith...
