...okay, so I suppose Christmas in 1995 was on a Monday and if the winter break is generally two weeks long and starts on the weekend before Christmas, then maybe the first Occlumency lesson (on a Monday evening) was on the 8th of January and Severus Snape was not yet 36 years old, but, ah, time is wobbly etc.
Has Severus taken the role of "Godmother" faster than Harry has managed to adapt to Sirius' revelation/declaration? Maybe, yes, probably. Does Voldy demand student drama and gossip from Severus? Yes.
Part Two
#Severus Snape#Harry Potter#Severitus adjacent#self-indulgent AU#bisexual harry potter#Is the text legible? For some reason the image looks blurry... I'll upload a larger version on Ao3 later#my art#...Ginny might have some opinions about the suggestion of being attracted to books...

charginny headcanons (pt. 1/?)
(a few may or may not be my lady ginny adjacent but dw abt it)
she kissed him first
he said 'i love you' first
refers to her often as 'my lady'
he's just a big huge simp in every way
charlie's mom loveeesss ginny. she calls her 'the daughter she never had'
they go to the lake together every summer
ginny doesn't technically smoke but she always shares charlie's cigarettes with him when he does
she constantly steals his coats (primarily his welton one) which always fit length-wise because they're almost the same height
he writes poems for her alotttt
and plays the sax (duh)
he's the only one who can get away with calling her virginia
charlie always helps her rehearse for plays (and is an absolute ham about it)
he hates being fussed over (hair being fixed, tie being tied, dirt/tears being wiped off, etc.) and ginny is the only exception for it (aside from his mother)
ginny is obsessed with that stupid smirk he does (it can let him get away with just about anything)
she always has a comeback for his jokes (and it drives him crazy)
pda. pda. pda.
charlie is sooo insanely clingy (especially when drunk) and ginny pretends she hates it (she doesn't)
ginny was his first kiss (she knew this) but he doesn't tell her until they've been together for at least a year.

thoughts on Ginny and Harry as a couple?
There are a lot of people who find their romance in HBP forced. I don't think it's forced so much as underwritten, and the books don't get the chemistry quite right (though the movies certainly don't, either). There's potential, but they just don't get enough actual scenes of substance (besides Harry thinking she's pretty or feeling jealous of Dean) for a lot of readers to buy that they're not only in love, but deeply enough in love to break up, get back together, and wind up married.
That's not to say I don't see the appeal. There's a very cool scene in Book 5 where Harry's doing a woe-is-me-Chosen-One act, and Ginny effortlessly puts him in his place about it by reminding him that she was possessed by Voldemort at eleven, which is a rare glimpse into her character and also a great synecdoche for their relationship — Ginny is a grounding presence who, like Ron and Hermione, isn't going to be awed by his past adventures because she knew him before they happened. In that respect, Ginny's probably one of the few women Harry could feasibly wind up with, because he only ever seems comfortable around people (let alone girls) who can see past the Chosen-One schtick and treat him like a normo (see: Ron, Hermione, the Weasleys, Luna, Hagrid). True to type, he doesn't get interested in Ginny at all until she's ditched her celebrity crush and ceased to view him as an idol, because in his heart of hearts, Harry wants to be a normal boy, and it's stressed over and over that part of what he likes about his relationship with Ginny is how normal it feels. He kind of has a horribly supercharged version the celebrity dating problem: after the Battle of Hogwarts, anyone he meets is going to know him first as Harry Potter, Chosen One, Boy Who Lived, and Actually Fucking Resurrected Messiah of the Wizarding World, which is... I mean, it's possible that there are witches out there who could get over that, but Harry's not an extroverted guy, and I'm not sure how he'd go about finding them. Ginny's the one who's been there since the beginning, doesn't need anything about him or his past explained to her, and actually likes him for who he is.
When you look at it that way, it's not surprising he married his high school girlfriend. She's one of the few people still alive who doesn't see him as a demigod.
#in general I was never one to ship harry with anybody#what I wanted for him was a long quiet life and plenty of therapy#maybe some dogs. i think harry needs dogs and deserves them#The other obvious solution ftr — though not one I think Harry would take — is for him to marry a muggle#though again. you'd run into the problem of how you explain All That#which harry doesn't like to talk about and probably would want to talk about even less as an adult#plus also: harry loves magic. like he loves it loves it#the muggle world for harry is permanently connected with the dursleys and it would take years to break that association#which I just don't think he's going to invest#Harry post-BOH is moving to Hogsmeade or wizarding London or some other magical neighborhood and staying there forever#by the way this post is not anti Harry and Ginny! no hate on the ship I've seen versions of it that are very cute#but I just think their love story needed Sauce#there are also some really interesting posts I've found in Deep Fandom crackship blogs about h/g as Harry's sublimated desire for Ron#now I don't necessarily buy that reading. I don't think Harry is in love with Ron in the original text#I do think he LOVES ron and projects that love onto the Weasleys very quickly ginny included#and I think Ron is his soulmate platonic or otherwise in every universe#so marrying Ginny has like. Implications. vis-a-vis Harry's status as a Weasley and adoptive brother[in law] of Ron#like it's a full-circle moment where he becomes officially legally a member of Ron's family#which I do believe JKR had in mind. even though that basically means ginny's wedding becomes kinda... actually... about her brother...#it's weird basically. my final verdict is I wish H/G had been written by an author who was more interested in Ginny for Ginny's sake.#greenteacup asks

Siblings Anthem Check!<3
Hi, I am the oldest, I'm the leader of the pack and all my other siblings just be riding on my back. I'm basically the parent, I keep everyone in line. I've never had a hand-me-down, my shoes they always shine

Hi, we are the middles and we're always overlooked, rules were made for us to break, which leaves our siblings shook. Hand-me-downs are all we know, nothing's ever new. You hate us 'cause you ain't us, but trust us it's the truth.

Hi, I am the youngest, I'm my family's pride and joy. My siblings were irrelevant the day that I was born. I walk into the room, all the attention goes to me. I get anything I want with just a "mommy, daddy, please."

Hey remember that ask I had where they asked me about my favorite Sagas from Epic: The Musical? And I listed certain songs that hold a lock on my brain?
Can...can we add The Horse and the Infant, Just a Man, Full Speed Ahead, Little Wolf, and Legendary to that list?
(I might actually have to rank the sagas soon, there are just some sagas where the style of music makes it hard to get into for me...especially if it's a slow song. Give me a good animatic or someone lip-syncing to the song, I might have a better chance to get into it)
#epic the musical#ginnyrules27#ginny apologizes for the delay in fics updating#however her mental health has been held hostage since September by very attractive men throwing a ball around trying to earn more points#than the other team of other somewhat attractive men#Epic has been helping not send me into a spiral of nerves and fear over something that in no way impacts my life#oh wow we really do have our own version of bread and circuses here in the US don't we?

I remember back when I was in middle school and it was normal for fandom girlies to only ship gay pairings and people were constantly joking about how only gay ships were normal there was this general consensus that even the most heterophobic of girls has at least one str8 otp, including me. But going back and reading/watching the medias that birthed the only str8 ships I liked has been so eye opening....Like when I went on my tangent about mcd the other day. I loved garmau so much that I found out what wattpad and fanfiction was because I was so desperate for garmau content, but like I've said before I was super surprised to rewatch diaries and realize how entitled and whiny Garroth was. But I had a similar experience a few months ago that I also would've complained about if this account existed then. I grew out of my garmau phase in about a year but two str8 ships that I absolutely obsessed over was Jake and Amy from b99 and Percy and Annabeth from pjo/hoo. Back when I was in middle school I found Jake's manchildishness to be funny and a little endearing, but now that I'm older....pairing him with Amy is like pairing the nice, quiet girl in class with the noisy shithead boy who her teacher made her sit by as a buffer. Out of the three I still love percabeth, I reread pjo last year and I was just as in love with the series as I was back then, and honestly, I still think they're the perfect couple, I'm just super pissed that Percy had the audacity to have a flirtationship with Rachel in the middle of his and Annabeth's 5 year slow burn romance
#the pyre#realizing that despite calling myself a misandrist since middle school I actually hate men now than I did then#from the v beginning I didn't like too many str8 pairings#besides these 3 the only ones I can remember that I actually liked#was Dipper and Pacifica from gravity falls#which is crazy to me bc idk if I've mentioned this on this account yet but I love the mean girl trope#I love p much every mean girls I've come acrossed and#I always hc them as lesbians which I do now for Pacifica so it's weird to remember#that there is a version of me that wanted her to be with...him#I also loved hinny I think I read every Harry x Ginny fic on wattpad#but when I made the switch to ao3 and saw that there were 100x more drarry pairings I got so pissed I stopped liking it T-T#I've always hated draco and his ship with harry so yes seeing how popular it was pissed me off sm that I dropped my hinny obsession#bc I didnt even want to brush shoulders with these ppl

Favourite things about Ned Long:
Calling him Neddyyyyyyy
That he played faz percent of his debut game (faz also played that percent of the game for Carlton)
Pretending he's Ned Flanders or something
The fact that Alex Fasolo presented him his jumper and told him to always have a shot and never pass it off
#i hope to add to the list in the coming weeks/months/etc#no idk but i hope he becomes really good for us#stay tuned for later: a list on everything good about Harvey Harrison#and then the up late version: everything good about Harvey Weinstein---- wait no I'm sorry#Tumblr i want to Collingwood more but it's hard they're just so stupid#also there's no Trent and no Ginni and#no fazzy#i walked past Mel yesterday aw man it was nice to see her again#i didn't see her at any of the pies at the pubs last year#anyway#i should go visit my Nana#i feel weird though like i feel fine but there's so much covid and rsv and pneumonia around like sure she's had the covid but the rest?????#is pneumonia contagious#I'm not saying i have it but i mean it's hard like I've had a little breathing difficulty since before covid but no test has shown why#but now every cough and inability to deep breath just sends me worried about all this RSV stuff#plus doesn't help that at the football so many people cough#hmm

Please can the male character of a fantasy show/shonen anime not end with a female character for once? Stop with the heteronormativity dear God.
Give the main male character more female friends instead of giving him female love interests. Male characters deserve to have female friends. They don't have to be always romantically involved! I'm tired of people always wanting to ship a girl and a boy without any other option. They could be just friends! (and this feels very close to me because I had a best male friend in high school and people ALWAYS saw us as lovers and it WASN'T true at all! It was so irritating I swear. "You look good together" "You are a good couple" "Are you two together?" Why can't you leave us alone??? He was just my friend). Because YES, a girl and a boy can be friends without feeling romantic love for each other.
Annabeth could have been Percy Jackson's first female friend and she could have been the first girl who cared about him, just like a "female version of Grover" and just a friend- but no, they had to end up together because God forbid a main male character not being the boyfriend of a girl (and the same happens with Hiccstrid, Jlaire and Anidala, they could also just have been friends)
Naruto and Hinata could have been besties instead of lovers but no- they had to make Hinata a girl whose life was only centered in "How do I make Naruto-kun love me?" (and the same happened to Iris West. She could have been more important to the plot and Barry's best female friend- but instead she was just his love interests and her development was null. And the same happened with Allura. At first she was a good character, but then she was only there to be Lance love interest, what he should have been overcome. And btw Allura's romantic love towards Lance felt very rushed. As well as Hinny was so bad developed in the movies and Ginny's development didn't exist).
Seriously people stop with these things. Stop reducing a female character to a love interest. Don't make the main male character end up with a female character because that "it's better for the plot" "it's better for the world" "people won't accept the male character dating another male character" "people won't accept the male character not dating anyone". Not everything has to be a straight couple. Actually, not everything has to be a couple! All relationships in the book/show/movie/anime could be platonic and it wouldn't be a big deal! (Although personally I like romance, but aroace people also exist and they deserve to be represented in media).

want your midnights | george f. weasley

summary: you teach george about some muggle traditions word count: 1.6k masterlist
“This Muggle tradition… what exactly is it?” Arthur Weasley asked, his curiosity alight as the Christmas festivities at the Burrow wound down.
“It’s a way to celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another,” Hermione explained patiently. “It usually involves singing, dancing, and other festivities. People stay up until midnight and count down the seconds. Then they shoot off fireworks.”
At the mention of fireworks, you could almost feel the sharp turn of Fred and George’s gazes toward Hermione. Mr. Weasley’s face lit up with intrigue, his trademark fascination with all things Muggle clearly piqued.
This little discussion had only started because of a casual comment you’d made to Hermione earlier.
Growing up, you’d loved celebrating the holidays with your family—filled with traditions and superstitions that were magical in their own way, even without wands or spells. But now you were older, and though you cherished these memories, you’d started spending the holidays with friends instead. It made sense, but it didn’t make this year any easier—it was your first without your family.
“Finally, a Muggle invention I can get behind,” Fred declared, his voice breaking through your thoughts as he approached with his characteristic grin.
“Seems they weren’t as boring as one might’ve thought,” George added, sidling up beside Hermione. Unlike Fred, though, his gaze was focused on you.
“So, do tell us, Mine,” Fred said, leaning in conspiratorially. “How does one go about celebrating this so-called Muggle tradition?”
Before Hermione could answer, Mrs. Weasley appeared, tea towel in hand, her expression a mix of suspicion and exasperation. “I beg you, Hermione, don’t give them any ideas,” she warned.
Fred and George exchanged a grin that spoke volumes. Whatever ideas were brewing in their minds, they were likely more explosive than Hermione’s explanation.
The talk of New Year’s Eve made you nostalgic, memories of past celebrations with your family surfacing. The pang of longing was sharper than you cared to admit, and perhaps that was why you decided to join the conversation.
“My favorite part has always been the New Year’s resolutions,” you offered quietly.
“What’s that, then?” Arthur asked, his attention swinging to you with the eagerness of a child opening presents.
Before you could answer, Hermione interjected, her tone brisk. “It’s just people setting goals because the calendar changes. Honestly, I think real progress comes from working toward something year-round—not just because it’s January 1st.”
She glanced at you apologetically, realizing too late that her practicality might’ve come across as dismissive. You returned her gaze with a small, reassuring smile. You knew she hadn’t meant any harm—it was just Hermione being Hermione.
“These resolutions,” you explained, “are like promises people make to themselves at the start of the year. It’s a way to mark a fresh start—a chance to become a better version of yourself. I think it’s a beautiful tradition.” A faint smile tugged at your lips.
“Me too,” George said softly, surprising you. His agreement, simple as it was, felt oddly significant.
“What do you think, love?” Arthur asked, turning to Molly with a hopeful smile.
“No Firewhiskey!” she declared firmly, cutting through any mischief before it could take root.
And just like that, plans for a New Year’s Eve party at the Burrow began to take shape—with you and Hermione at the helm.
The Burrow was a flurry of activity. Strings of fairy lights had been charmed to hang themselves across the living room, glowing softly in the dim light. Plates of finger foods hovered over the table, and laughter echoed as Fred and George attempted to enchant a Muggle disco ball.
“You’ll blind someone with that thing!” Ginny hollered from the sofa, shielding her eyes dramatically as the ball emitted a cascade of multicolored sparks.
“Don’t be jealous of our craftsmanship, Gin,” Fred retorted, smirking.
“You mean your craftsmanship. This is clearly my genius,” George corrected, giving the disco ball a smug pat before it spiraled out of control.
Mrs. Weasley bustled past, muttering under her breath as she righted the ball with a quick flick of her wand. “I swear, if anything explodes tonight—”
“We’ll take full responsibility!” Fred called after her, earning a sigh in response.
Despite the chaos, the atmosphere was warm, filled with the kind of energy only the Weasleys could create. Friends filtered in as the night went on, and soon the living room was packed with chatter, music, and the clinking of glasses.
You found yourself weaving through the crowd, smiling at familiar faces but searching for a quieter corner. The noise was wonderful, but it left a small ache in your chest—a reminder of home and your family traditions.
That’s when you spotted George slipping out the back door, his tall frame silhouetted against the moonlit garden. Curiosity tugged at you, and before you realized it, you were following him.
Outside, the crisp air bit at your skin, but it was refreshing after the heat of the crowded living room. George leaned against the railing of the porch, gazing up at the stars with a thoughtful expression.
“Escaping your own party?” you teased as you approached.
He turned, startled for a moment before his lips curved into a small smile. “Needed a breather. You?”
“Same.” You joined him at the railing, the sounds of the celebration muffled behind you. For a moment, neither of you spoke, content to share the quiet.
George broke the silence first. “What’s your New Year’s resolution?”
You tilted your head, pretending to consider your answer. “I can’t tell you, or it won’t happen.”
He raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in his eyes. “That’s not how it works. Resolutions aren’t like wishes.”
“Oh, and you’re an expert on Muggle traditions now?” you teased, giving him a pointed look.
“Well, no,” he admitted, scratching the back of his neck. “But I don’t think you’re supposed to keep me in suspense.” He kept quiet for a moment, before asking, “How about another tradition instead?”
You smiled, leaning slightly closer as you explained. “Alright, here’s one for you: kissing someone at midnight means you’ll be with them for the rest of the year.”
George blinked, and for a moment, the only sound was the faint rustling of the wind. Then, his lips curled into a sly grin. “Just the year?”
“Just the year,” you confirmed, though your heart beat a little faster when his eyes didn’t leave yours.
“Well then,” he murmured, voice low and warm, “I suppose I’ll have to do that every year, won’t I?”
You laughed, though it was softer than usual, your cheeks warming against the cold. His expression was teasing, but the sincerity in his gaze lingered long after the moment passed.
“What about you?” you asked, shifting the focus away from yourself. “What’s your resolution?”
George hesitated, the playful air around him faltering for just a second. “Can’t tell you, or it won’t happen,” he mimicked, grinning.
You rolled your eyes, nudging his arm lightly. “Touché.”
The two of you stayed out there for a while longer, talking about everything and nothing. Eventually, the cold drove you both back inside, where the party was in full swing. But as the countdown to midnight crept closer, you couldn’t help but wonder if George’s resolution had something to do with the way he’d looked at you under the stars.
The living room was alive with anticipation as everyone gathered near the clock, the air crackling with excitement. The enchanted disco ball spun lazily overhead, casting shimmering lights across the room. Plates clinked, conversations hummed, and the countdown loomed closer.
“Alright, everyone!” Fred called out, standing on a chair like he was addressing an assembly. “It’s time! Ten seconds to go—don’t mess it up now!”
The room erupted in laughter and shouts of excitement. You found yourself squeezed between Ginny and Hermione, your eyes flicking through the crowd in search of George.
But he was nowhere to be seen.
“Ten!” the group began, voices blending in chaotic unison.
Your heart started to race. Had he slipped outside again?
“Nine!”
You craned your neck, trying to catch a glimpse of his tall frame, but all you could see were the swaying heads of everyone else.
“Eight!”
The disco ball flickered, and you felt Hermione tug on your arm, smiling at you as she yelled the next number. You managed a half-hearted smile in return.
“Seven!”
Where was he?
“Six!”
Your stomach sank a little. You told yourself it was fine—after all, it wasn’t like he had to be there. It wasn’t a big deal.
“Five!”
But maybe it was.
“Four!”
A hand brushed your elbow, and you turned so quickly you nearly collided with him. George stood there, his hair slightly disheveled and cheeks flushed, grinning at you like he’d just pulled off the greatest prank in the world.
“Three!”
“Where were you?” you blurted, trying to sound annoyed but failing miserably.
“Had to grab something,” he said cryptically, slipping his hands behind his back.
“Two!”
Your heart jumped into your throat. “George, what—”
“One!”
Before you could finish, he moved faster than you thought possible, dipping his head to capture your lips in a kiss. It wasn’t hurried or awkward—it was soft and warm, full of a quiet kind of confidence that left your knees a little wobbly.
Cheers and whistles erupted around you as everyone shouted, “Happy New Year!”
When George finally pulled back, his grin was nothing short of triumphant. “What were you saying?”
You blinked at him, flustered. “I—what—what did you grab?”
He stepped back just enough to reveal a small, sparkling firework in his hand, the kind that shot out glittery sparks. With a quick flick of his wand, it lit up, fizzling into the shape of a heart before fading away.
“That,” he said simply, his voice soft but his eyes gleaming with mischief. “Happy New Year, love.”

(Perhaps controversial) theories on Harry Potter first drafts/story structure
I've been reading some more old Harry Potter meta (critique) (damn I miss those LiveJournal esque communities) and after some of the theories I've read I'm now 90% sure that Deathly Hallows was actually the third, or maybe even second book that Joanne started writing.
I love deconstruction and I am a writer, so this kind of thing interests me on a personal level as a high-profile reference that a lot of people might be familiar with, even as generally I have strong critiques for Joanne both as a person, and as what I consider to be something of an impostor in the fantasy genre, as a writer who both openly (at the start of her career) disavowed fantasy classics as beneath her, claimed not to be writing fantasy, and in my opinion, heavily plagiarised works of other authors within the genre and then played ignorant when called out on it by people who by that point had less power and industry clout than she did.
This is going to be critical of JKR, so for those not interested in that, maybe don't read on below the cut. It's not my intention to make anyone feel negative about something that's special or sacred to them.
Some members of the LJ community noted that Deathly Hallows (DH) has many, many recurring references and callbacks to the first book, Philosopher's Stone (PS), with certain characters even seeming to regress to those versions of them in terms of their behaviors, motivations, and what they centrally held as important.
After considering it again I've also come to the conclusion that that's one aspect that throws so many readers off DH as a conclusion to the series, a series that has 'grown up with' the reader and consciously shifted from children's lit to YA; and from a series of fantasy holiday movies helmed by Chris Columbus to a fantasy adventure series with gruesome monsters and wands becoming essentially the ranged weapon variant of lightsabers or the conduit for MCU-esque superhero abilities... that in terms of the writing, the morals, and the overarching themes, actually DH goes backward in that regard to the Roald Dahl-inspired simple morality of the first book where violence was cartoonish, monsters were existential rather than grounded, and Harry and friends were essentially young children trying their best to solve a mystery; rather than the adults the world has contextually by now established them to be.
Joanne has boasted that she had written the Epilogue very early on. What if she had in fact written out a lot of DH very early on?
She knew the books were going to cover (at least) seven school years. I think she decided after the first one, she would write (most of) the end of the series, and then if she needed to, she could write more than 5 other books in between.
DH takes place when Harry isn't in school. But nothing about the story means it has to take place when Harry should be in school.
Thematic and character-based parallels-wise, it might have actually made a lot of sense for Harry to be the same age that his parents were when they passed away, in Deathly Hallows, to make the walk through to the forest with his parents' ghosts, back the same age as they were when he first saw them in the Mirror of Erised more of an exact parallel tearjerker.
And a lot of the criticisms that DH faces - "why didn't we see inside Hogwarts during Snape's regime, and what happened to Neville, Luna and Ginny and the rest of the kids in Harry's year?" - would be nixed if this story was never meant to take place in Harry's final school year.
I suspect that what happened at some point during the height of her fame and blowup is that Joanne realised that a) she was so successful already she wouldn't have to write as many books as she had originally planned; especially because b) movies were now also in the works or being released, and the actors would only be believable as teenagers for a certain duration, but this led to c) now she had a smaller total possible number of books in which to fit all of her vague ideas of where the story would end up going and what the big setpieces were planned to be. (Hence the lengths started to balloon)
I might end up writing a part 2 to this because (ironically) I don't want to make this post so long, but as a starting point I would theorize her original outline may have gone something like the following:
Book 1, Harry Potter and the Philsopher's Stone. Establishes our characters and the main setpieces; Harry Potter, Ron-and-Hermione (who essentially function as a two-headed sidekick machine), Snape, Dumbledore, Voldemort, James-and-Lily-Potter
X number of books, as-yet undefined, at least one per school year, but potentially many more, like most contemporaries to her went in to their careers expecting to write, that expand on the young characters' relationships in small ways, with Draco Malfoy, his foil friends to HRH, and his family, as minor antagonists to drag out the series as long as possible - and never intended as more than that, while Dumbledore and Snape bubble away in the background
Harry's final year of school, in which Dumbledore is killed by Snape in front of Harry at the climax of the year, is buried in the school grounds, and Snape ascends to the Headmaster role
Only then at some point, Voldemort is resurrected and takes pride of place as the main villain, pushing Snape down into the secondary villain/antihero role
The final book in which Harry returns to Hogwarts a la Lord of the Rings/The Empire Strikes back, too late to have a confrontation with Snape (a classic tragic beat) and instead has his showdown with Voldemort, finishing his parents' legacy and completing what they themselves could not do.
I genuinely believe that all of the following were late additions to the story that ended up taking on a life of their own with the fandom, that Joanne never planned for, never really anticipated, and - because we know that she is both stubborn to change in general, and sees herself as a visionary above steer or critique - refused to meaningfully update or edit around in the final version of the last book:
Sirius Black existing at all
Remus Lupin existing at all
Peter Pettigrew existing at all
Fudge, Umbridge, and the Ministry-vs-Dumbledore/Harry sideplot - which, knowing that Joanne is a woman of faith, reeks of a 'skeptical nonbelievers vs true Christians of faith' plot
Luna
Everything about the Triwizard Tournament
Everything about the Yule Ball
Everything about the World Cup (I would go as far as proposing these were originally planned as three episodic books that she ended up blending together)
Spotlight Death Eaters like Barty Crouch and Bellatrix Lestrange
The Founders, the Basilisk, and the Sword of Gryffindor
The Horcruxes
Anything about magical creatures, aside from as episodic flavor to provide a one-off background character
International characters like Fleur, Krum and Madame Maxime
Most fight scenes, including everything with the Dept of Mysteries
Grimmauld Place and Kreacher
And perhaps controversially, most of the racist/blood war elements of the conflict in the books. Because, in DH, apart from flavor description of what the Death Eaters etc. are doing...
The conflict described seems, as it did in PS, to be primarily a personal one, with Voldemort's vendetta being against Harry specifically, and as a proxy, Dumbledore's followers, and people who believed in him and his ideals.
And maybe that's why Harry, the character, never seems to end up caring that much about the foundational principles of why they are fighting the war, and who it is actually there to protect, besides his personal connection with Voldemort as his personal nemesis...
Because Joanne never originally wrote it that way. Voldemort dies, and "all was well."
