... ⋅˚₊‧ Yandere Damian Wayne ‧₊˚ ⋅ | Family Yandere ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Damian Wayne (Yandere) x Family — + Reader  Genre: Headcanon
Summary: My delusional mind just told me that he would be like this.
My masterlist + IDK + Why do you still in this line?
Next headcanon ⟶ + all of them together.
English is not my first language and, no, I'm not one of those who say that and give you the best fanfic ever. Don't expect too much, please. Thank you anyway for reading this thing.
Tumblr media
By definition, “Yandere” means and is a portmanteau of two Japanese words. The first is yanderu, which means “to be sick,” and the second is deredere, used here for “love struck.” A yandere is often sweet, caring, and innocent before switching into someone who displays an extreme, often violent or psychotic, level of devotion to a love interest.
But if we put this on our actual advantaged, extensive and powerful knowledge about them (fanfics), we're only going to let them talk about yanderes with romantic obsessions, not in their total power or in their other kinds of freak ways to let the heart talk.
You're probably thinking: How does Damian fit in that description? Or just have the answer on the tip of your tongue. Since he already acts like one—without the obsession by love. Damian doesn’t involve himself just romantically. Swiping from two... no, actually, it turns out to be three kinds of yandere.
And they’re: the family yandere, the friendship yandere, and the worst of them: the lovesick yandere.
The family yandere type is where he literally knows every single part of the relatives around him—biological and chosen—just to make sure that he’s in control of gods-know-what, that he knows everything about his father, mother, brothers, sisters, siblings, and any kind of family interaction and papers that the Waynes and Al Ghuls can share in his life, to protect them or just be aware of what happens with them.
“It’s none of your business!” vs. “Yes, it is—Damian Wayne.”.
He doesn’t try to control everything in their lives or overprotect them just because “he loves them.” No, not at all. He does it because they’re HIS family, a real and important part of him, like his wolf pack. I know, calling them that sounds dumb and cliché—maybe even silly—but that’s just how it is.
And you’re probably like, “Just this? I thought that you would tell how he mistreats them, hurts them physically and mentally, tries to manipulate, and is on purpose a bitch devil teenager who is still trying to ruin their lives when they don’t do what he wants.” Yeah, he totally is, but we don’t need to expose him in that way. We don’t need to say out loud that he had put tracks in them, that he uses a tracker in their phones to clone the same, that he even knows their other relations—friendship, romantic, any shit that he can find—and, if they don’t hit his standards or just approve them, he makes sure that he’s able to end them before even having a chance to start.
What happens a lot, if you allow me to say.
Damian may not act like a sweet, caring, and innocent boy around his family, because they know exactly what he is—and what he’s capable of. So, he doesn’t need to be such a phoney in his house, but he’s still acting, calculating, manipulating all-the-time. Never being himself, never allowing himself to feel, to really live, his whole life made him be like this, like a trained dog. it's hard to leave old habits, like killing.
You must be thinking: “And where am I in this headcanon?”, and my answer is right here. But we have a “depend” situation, since he has a lot of ways to define which kind of Damian you’re going to see.
Tumblr media
The first option is where he really hates you, I don’t know why. I really don’t know how you managed to attract so much of his rage to yourself—Tim is so grateful for you right for this (you saved him from his most horrible bully), but at what cost?  You’re in devil trouble now.
He’s making sure that your life is pitiful in this family, making everyday more horrible. So… good luck.
He’s putting your things in the water, so, what are you going to do now? Your favorite clothes disappeared? Not him, he was… with some good alibi (Jon), then it’s not him. Your mug was full of something strange that you noticed before drinking? Obviously he’s not the one who did put laxative on it, why are you still accusing him? Just because Bruce suddenly found you breaking some rule? Well, this one was actually Bruce, but he helped you to do something wrong that you didn’t know was wrong before.
And then, he’s your favorite hater. Your days at school are shitty and painful. But at the manor? Worse.
No one controls him.
No one.
But you have salvation, your last wish that you didn’t know that you would need: someone else was stupid enough to do the same thing that he does to you in front of him, or just… someone told him what the other idiot did.
And, really, he can hate you, be the biggest jerk that you ever experienced, but he's not a monster with his family (we know that it's a lie, yes, he is a monster when he wants to—but that's not the point).
So, to show that he's the only who can do that, he made the life of the “gods-know-who” the most horrible shit, worse than yours, just because they did the same that he does. Summarizing: He protected you and made them stop, isn’t like he was caring about you at all.
He didn't let you breathe after this.
You're weak. You can’t protect yourself. And now? Now you’re 'a Wayne'...", he doesn't want to show that someone around him, around his family, doesn't have the common 'fam' protection (no, he doesn't care that Timothee is also without that), always making everyone afraid of hurting your body or feelings.
It lasted some weeks.
Until he noticed what most everyone did: now you're his soft spot. Just like Jon and Dick (I can't take Richard's "name" seriously).
Like, he finally noticed that.
That isn't normal to: watch you as you sleep because he's... concerned, that you can die with your stupid way to sleep like a dog. To make sure that you're eating enough, drinking enough, caring for your body, any healthy shit that Dick makes him do when he comes to the family. Ok, normal things, but, who clones your phone and puts a tracker on your body just to know where you are? "All the batfam?" Fair point.
Ok, ok, normal stuff, but he cares about you, you even showed that you could forgive his mistakes and gave some sort of affection. He cried a little after you slept, because no one could do that to him and leave alive and... he strangely liked your touch and warmth. Reminds him home. Not the place, but the warm feeling of the sun on his skin.
So, yeah, you needed to accept him right now. If you want to stay alive and breathing with eyes open. And, well, he's helping you, not doing so many bad things with you—at last, not like before—and he's obviously not making you need him and only him around you because he likes to feel the love that you share with others. Ok?
(... I'm gonna make a part two about this part one if you guys want to.)
The second option is the one where you are the most loving member of the bat-family, like, everyone loves you. You're the glue savior of this family.
Someone needs help with their homework? You can help it! Alfred doesn't let the others get in the kitchen because of what they have made? No worries, you can take the cookies from the cabinet and give it to them.
How could they have lived without you all this time? And, on the other hand, we have Damian.
That's enough, right? I don't need to say anything else, byeeeee—ok, my bad.
Damian is clumsy (in family relationships and, any kind of relation), weird, freak, scary, a monster, acts like a puppeteer, wears like a devil and it's a devil. Do you get it? Everything about him screams "GET AWAY FROM HIM, I BEG YOU-" that was your angel telling you to be away.
And you heard it? Of course not, you're dumb, you think that everyone needs a second chance.
That's the reason "why are on the couch as Alfred helps you with your bloody arm".
Damian stabbed you right on the triceps brachii. Yes, you lost a lot of blood and he made a perfect line. Like, how the hell he jumped on you from the other side of the table just because you were talking (a lot as always) with everyone to do some Wayne stuff and relax after so many cases that the bat-family had solved?
Is he a maniac???? (yes, no, maybe?)
You didn't even feel the stabbing. He just made it because Bruce wasn't here, we don't really know, just Damian being Damian, right...?
The scene was chaotic, like in Naruto (classic) where the senseis holded Neji when he was going to really kill Hinata. And you know who stopped him, since some of them were just a little shocked or laughing because their trauma just made them fall apart.
So, yeah, you’re in quarantine as he is still a threat to your safety.
And he noticed, you’re loved. He wanted this kind of love too, because when he hurted you, everyone was around you because he did it again and again, like, how the hell they care about someone so stinky (your perfume is perfectly fine and you too!), so ugly (just his opinion) and so dumb… Well, they like Stephanie and Tim too, so he can understand that part. Helping the ones with an intelligence deficit, charity for the brainless—his opinion, not mine.
Then he decided he needed to “be good” with you to have the same attention and love that you have. It worked? Kind of. But, with this closeness, he noticed why everyone loves you.
Your voice is loveable. Your eyes are shiny even when they’re dark—it’s so strange, how can something that's sometimes is empty as a black board, turn into the most bright night star? Your smell makes him remember about the most horrible nightmare = a beautiful day in a garden, playing with Titus and eating some of the best Alfred cookies at the same time (how?????).
Everyone knows what happened after it, right?
He fell “in love” with you, not the incestuous kind, but, really, he can't go another day without looking at you. His day only begins when he sees you. But yours? It's normal without him.
You even found it strange at first, but then you accepted it, because somehow the universe began to create the strangest situations for you to be together. Seriously. The “universe” knows your schedules and plans without looking twice.
It really knows you.
Damian lays his head on your thighs, look up to see your face as you’re almost sleeping, your beautiful dizzy almost-closed eyes, just to know that you and him are made to each other (not in that way, I guess, I don’t know, it’s you, not me, you decide it). Just to turn aggressive with the other ones of the family when they get too close to you, they don't see that you’re just like him? That you two are now identical?? That you do prefer him above all the others??? You may ask, “why is he so sure about that?”, well, you said that he was better than any other bat-fam member, it was YOUR WORD, not his.
Not really, he dreamed that, but he doesn’t get so many good dreams, so this may be true, right? Let the boy dream.
He’ll do anything for you, anything, and you kinda like it, but not how he presses your breathing just to show that he might love you and kill the whole world for you, but you’re his, so stop being so close to others. He would accept to come back to the A.L. just for you, but don’t press his buttons. He is still a danger.
Tumblr media
I guess I got a little too harsh in the “brainless” part, I’ll change that anyways. Sorry if you felt disrespected at any moment. I’m going to review and improve the points in the future.

Muzan Kibutsuji x Nezuko Kamado’s Twin-sister! Muggle-born! Slytherin! Reader (feat. Severus Snape)
Angel of Darkness
Tumblr media
Warnings: Mentions of Death, child neglect, Snake bite, venom, Muzan is a bit ooc and spoilers of the end of the Demon Slayer manga.
Soulmate Au
(A/n: Y/n is older than Harry and Draco by a year.)
Y/n Snape or originally called Y/n Kamado. She was Nezuko Kamado’s forgotten twin. Y/n was originally a very nice girl but she was often insulted and ignored by everyone in her home village. Having enough of this treatment. She ran away from home and ended in another dimension. She was adopted in 1984 by Severus Snape at the age of 5 years old. Because of the treatment she endured through her real family; she became resentful of towards them when Severus treated her with love and care. The caring and kind girl became cold, calm, stoic, and sarcastic like her father. She had been taught different potions, spells, wandless magic, and of course later on unsupported flight. Y/n has a resentment towards Harry Potter and the Boy-Who-Lived hates her. However, she hates him for how his father bullied hers when they were their age. Like her father, she was in Slytherin despite being a Muggle-born. She has a lot of friends within her house and she was also friends with Draco Malfoy.
In the year of 1997....
Y/n watches as her father kills Dumbledore Albus Dumbledore. However, she doesn't show it but she knew that he doesn't want to kill the Headmaster and could tell he was hesitant. “Do you think is this going to work?” A male voice asks before the Slytherin girl then looks at him. ‘I am sure.... Muzan...’ she says through their thoughts. Muzan Kibutsuji, was the Demon King and the progenitor of the Demon race. At her 18th birthday, he was her soulmate. After he died at the hands of the Demon Slayers mainly in Tanjiro Kamado’s hands (Y/n’s biological older brother). Muzan’s soul has merge with hers.
Dumbledore fell from the Astronomy towards his death. Harry Potter, the boy Y/n hated so much because of the rivalries between both of their families. The Slytherin girl watches as the Death Eaters including Severus leave. Before he left, her father gave her a look that she could tell before leaving immediately.
The Boy-Who-Lived then goes after the Death Eaters but Y/n on the other hand decides not to follow before looking around in the Astronomy tower. “Y/n....” the former Demon King calls out making the Slytherin girl then looks at him. “You gave me a reason to resent your siblings.” he says as that made Y/n growl at the thought of Tanjiro and Nezuko. “I have no concern towards both of them because of how everyone treated me back in our dimension.” she then says as she can speak to him outloud without anyone disturbing them. “I really don't care about you killing my mother and my other siblings. I believe they deserved it.” she then adds to her lover.
“You’re alright that I killed them?” Muzan asks as the Slytherin girl then gives an evil smile. “Yes, I am. They didn't treated me decently so they deserve it.” she then says. Y/n smirks. “I could see their reactions once they find out. You are my soulmate, Muzan." She says as she starts to smirk at the thought. Muzan then gives an evil smile. The form he is seen in his spirit form was the way he was in the final battle.
The Slytherin girl then decides to leave the Astronomy Tower. She already has her hands on her father's copy of the Advanced Potions making text book. She was surprised that it ended up in the possession of the Boy-Who-Lived, but she was able to get it back so anyone wouldn't get hurt again. She found out that Potter used the Sectumsempra spell her father created against Draco.
Muzan on the other hand, well after, he found out that she is actually Nezuko Kamado’s twin-sister but she looks older than her twin. The way time works on this dimension is different from theirs. He really wants Tanjiro to continue his dream but the boy managed to break free from his control. Y/n pretty much scoff at his attempt to control her brother and told him not to waste his time on her biological family.
The Slytherin girl was currently near the walk ways outside Hogwarts. She sighs. The war begins with Dumbledore dead.
Time skip to 1998 the Battle of Hogwarts...
Y/n was fighting for her school and she wants that Dark Lord. As her father and Draco's parents can't break off the arranged marriage unless if the Dark Lord was killed. Of course, the former Demon King was disgusted with it but they both maintain appearances to avoid suspension. She secretly helps the students under the instructions of her father. She knew that in order for both of them to come out alive was to, well, do bad things to survive. Many thought of her to be loyal to the Dark Lord but no she's loyal to Severus Snape and will always be.
Back to the present, while attacking and dodging attacks of a few Death Eaters. She then Harry giving a look to follow him and his friends. They made their way to the Shrieking Shack. When they made it there, Snape wasn't alone the Dark Lord is there as well.
Y/n listens to their conversation. She's not surprised on why the Elder wand doesn't work on him. Of course, Draco disarmed Dumbledore that night at the Astronomy so it won't work. That had her and Muzan wandering on why he called her father.
Things happened quickly. Voldemort commanded Nagini his snake to attack Severus to which Harry cover Y/n’s mouth to prevent her from screaming. As her tears pour down her cheeks she heard the hissing sound of the Dark Lord's snake as it attacks the poor Potion Master's neck.
“I regret this...” Voldemort mutters before disapperating of course Nagini left. Afterwards she along with the Trio then ran in the shack. The Slytherin girl's eyes widen in horror while Muzan in spirit form looks surprise on what he's seeing. Y/n immediately made her way towards her father before taking out something from the pocket of her robes. “Here, father. Drink this." She says as Severus looks at her before he decides to do so. Y/n help him in drinking the potion.
The Slytherin girl then wraps something around her father's neck. Severus then looks at his daughter as a tear fell from his left eye before he gently places his hand on her head before gently patting it.
Harry then made his way towards their former Potions Professor. The two (mainly three) then look up to see Potter as he knelt down in front of Severus. As Severus looks at Harry, he gestures to his lone tear. “Take it, take it” he pleads. Harry immediately looks at Hermione, Ron, and Y/n. “Quick, give me a flask! Anything!” the boy begs. Hermione hands him a vial.
As Harry takes the offered vial, he hurries up with filling it with Severus’ tear. Once it’s filled, Severus looks at Harry again. “Look at me” he demands rather gently. The boy does as he says as the former Potions Master looks into his green eyes, reminded of Lily Potter. “You have your mother’s eyes” Severus’ tells him. He feels sorrow as he thinks of his former friend.
The Slytherin girl then gives her father a look of sympathy as she has feeling that he's thinking about Potter's mother. Y/n then looks at Harry. “Potter, don't let the lives that were lose tonight in vain...” she tells him to which the Gryffindor teen thought for a moment before he nods his head. He and his friends then left the Shrieking Shack leaving the Slytherin girl (and Muzan) with her father.
“Y/n” Severus calls out in a weak tone. “Ye-Yes Dad?” She says giving her full attention on her beloved father. “Ple-Please take care of yourself...” He says in a weak yet low voice. The Slytherin girl then gives a sorrowful look. She managed to give the anti-vemon to him onto time before it starts to kill him. “T-thank you, Dad..... Thank you for taking me in when my real family and everyone in my home dimension ignore my existence.” she says as she wraps her arms around him. She felt Severus wrap his arms around in his embrace.
Muzan in spirit form was watching the interaction between his soulmate and her father. He really felt bad for Y/n as she was treated as the so-called black sheep in by her biological family. The same family he killed but unknowingly didn't know someone survive of him injecting his blood. Y/n’s twin-sister; Nezuko Kamado. Although, time works differently so the Slytherin girl is older than her living siblings by 3-4 years.
Hours later after the Battle of Hogwarts....
The Slytherin girl is in the Hospital Wing looking at her father. She was relieved that she managed to save him on time.
She was then snap out of her thoughts when she hears a familiar voice. “Snape....” she then turns around to see the Boy-Who-Lived as he seems rather nervous before he takes a deep breath. “You know, I think we should clear the misunderstanding between both of our families. I am so ashamed of how my father bullied yours when they were students. He was one of the reason why your father ended up following the path of becoming a Death Eater besides your grandfather.” he then says before Y/n growl at the mention of her grandfather Tobias Snape. “Of course, I hate him for what he did to my father.” she then replies. “He’s already dead, Y/n. You don't have to worry about him anymore.” Muzan in spirit form tries comforting her. The Slytherin girl then sighs.
Harry then gives her a sympathetic look. “Hey, I felt sorry for you that your real family didn't treated you like the way Snape treated you.” he says as Y/n (and Muzan) were surprised on how he knew that. The Slytherin girl then gives him a serious look. “Not a word to anyone, Potter.” she says. “Don’t worry. I can understand my aunt mistreated me growing up so I can understand.” the Boy-Who-Lived then says as Y/n widen slightly at that.
The Slytherin girl then shook her head immediately. “*sighs* Yes, it's true. I'm not from this dimension but from another. However, I left a long time ago.” she says before looking at her father. “He was the first person who treat me with kindness.” she says with such emotion in her voice. Harry justs nod. “You know, I was wrong about both of you. You both show that there's more between both of you.” he says which made Y/n look at him. “I really hated how much of a jerk my father was and my mother was originally friends with yours until their sixth year. Now, I couldn't blame your father for hating me because I reminded him his own bully and rival.” he says as he looks at her. “I never thought he really didn't want to kill Dumbledore.” he adds as Y/n sighs. “He never wanted to but he has no choice in order for the Dark Lord to trust him completely.” she says. Harry then looks at Severus. “I hope he wakes up.” he says as the Slytherin girl nod in agreement.
An hour later....
Y/n had to leave the Hospital Wing to get something to eat as she made a promise to take care of herself. After she left, the former Potions Master’s finger start to move. Severus starts to groan before he slowly starts to open his eyes. When he completely opens them, he looks around his eyes widen that he's in the Hospital Wing.
When the Slytherin girl came back. Her eyes widen before she immediately made her way towards him. “D-Dad?” she then asks trying her best not to let the tears fall from her eyes. The former Potion Master slowly gives his daughter a hug as she cries on his shoulder. “I'm glad that you're awake..” She sobs out making Severus sigh and rub a circle around her back “It’s okay now. I'm fine now” He says.
Muzan in his spirit form smiles but it was a genuine smile. He had grown to care for Y/n. He then notices someone it was Minerva McGonagall. “Y/n, someone is here.” he then says as the Slytherin girl then looks surprise at her lover's words before looking up. It was Professor McGonagall. The former Potions Master then notices this as well. “M-Minerva?!” he asks completely surprise to see his friend and colleague. Severus flinch as he thinks she was angry at him for the things he done. Y/n immediately move away from her father allowing her professor to hug him but careful not to hurt his neck. “Y-you are not mad at me?” the former Potions Master then asks looking surprise.
At that Harry came to the room to see that Severus is awake. “I’m not, you dunderhead.” McGonagall says to him as the Boy-Who-Lived then approach. “You were a hero. You saved us.” he says which made the former Potions Master then roll his eyes.
They then started to explain what happened. They never left out that the Dark Lord's gone. Severus sighs in relief, finally he's gone. He can finally take a break. “I think I need to retire from teaching being a spy took a toll on me.” The former Potions Master then informs as the other three (more like four) nod in understanding. He then looks at his daughter. “Did Kibutsuji kill anyone when you let him took control?” he asks as he wants to know if Muzan killed any innocent. Muzan in spirit form then sweat drop. He did kill innocent people but seeing things through Y/n, he stopped doing it. The Slytherin girl then laughs nervously.
“U-Uh...” The Slytherin stutter before giving her father a nod. “That's good to hear...” Severus says in relief “I didn't wanted to use you over his personal needs...” He adds making the former Demon King grit his teeth. “How dare you think that I'm going to hurt innocent people?!” he thought. “Don't worry, Dad. I can handle him” The Slytherin girl confirm making Severus nod again. “That's good, sweetheart.” He says.
Harry then looks at Y/n confused. “So Kibutsuji is your soulmate? I found out through the pensieve.” he asks making the Slytherin girl nod in confirmation. “Yes, he is, Potter. He was from the dimension I came from. However, after he was killed his soul sort of got stuck to me.” she says. The Boy-Who-Lived just nod. “I notice when he takes control your eyes turn red.” he says. The Slytherin girl then decides not to talk about it. So she remains silent. Muzan on the other hand stood there in his spirit form quiet as usual. Since Y/n zone out of the conversation. The former Demon King didn't and payed attention.
Months later....
The Malfoys were pardoned thanks to Harry and the Snape family. Of course, Severus was pardoned thanks to the Boy-Who-Lived and his daughter. He was given galleons for saving the entire Wizarding community. However, the was used to only renovate the inside of Severus and Y/n’s home in Spinner's End. The Slytherin girl then decides to persue her path on becoming a Potioneer. Muzan was really happy for as it was something she wanted to do.
However, one day while helping her father gather Potion ingredients as he's out of it particularly for personal use. They (along with the former Demon King) found a passage way but Y/n immediately recognize it as the same one that took her from hers and Muzan’s home dimension. The Slytherin girl got in first with her father follow behind her. When they got through, they both look around. Y/n narrows her eyes while Severus was following behind her(and the former Demon King). They were in the mountains but the ones in her old home. Y/n then growls being around her again while her father notices his daughter's discomfort. Severus held his daughter's hand. “What's the matter, my dear?” he asks in a worried tone.“Thi-This place..” she says as she wanders her eyes around. “What is this place?” The Potion Master asks.
They were both snap out of their thoughts when they notice somebody. The first one was a boy with burgundy hair, he has bright a red while the other was blind, has a scar on his forehead, fair skin but his left arm is wrinkled, and of course he wears Hanafuda earrings. This was Tanjiro Kamado; Y/n’s biological older brother. The other was a girl who is identical to Y/n but younger due to how time works differently in the Wizarding World. She has black hair like the Slytherin girl, identical pink eyes, and pale skin. This girl was Nezuko Kamado; Y/n’s biological older twin-sister. The Slytherin girl then narrows her eyes while she could hear Muzan growl.
Tanjiro then smells a familiar scent that he hasn't smelled in a very long time. He then turns his attention to where it lead to before his eyes widen in shock. “Y/n...?” he whispers in disbelief. Hearing this Nezuko look up before her eyes widen in shock to see her own twin-sister. The one they ignored and barely paid any attention to. “Hello, Tanjiro, Nezuko...” Y/n says in a monotone similar to Severus’. While her father narrows his eyes at his daughter's living biological siblings.
Before the two Kamado’s could say anything they were interrupted when their were people were calling out to them. Pretty much, 8 other people came around. “Who the hell are they!?” the one who wears a boar mask asks. “No way!!! She's so identical to you, Nezuko-chan!!” A guy with blonde hair screech making the two Snapes roll their eyes at that. “Who are these people, Tanjiro?” A guy with white hair who has scars on his face asks while the remaining five look confused. Y/n then narrows her eyes. “I’m not surprised that you two didn't even tell them about me, Tanjiro, Nezuko.” she says as she looks at the friends of her two biological siblings. “Allow me to introduce myself.” she then informs making the others who were confused look at her. “My name is Y/n Snape but my real name is Y/n Kamado. I am Nezuko’s younger but forgotten twin-sister. Mostly known as the so-called black sheep in our family.” she reveals to the friends of the Kamado siblings making them look surprise. “You had another sister, Tanjiro-san?” One of them who has black hair and blue eyes then asks. “I thought Nezuko-chan was the only sister you have living.” The blonde-haired guy then says. The Slytherin girl then glares at both if her biological siblings. “Idiotic dunderheads. You really think I would consider you both as my siblings? No, because you're nothing but strangers to me now. I had found out about what happened to our mother and siblings but it doesn't concern me." She then says having no amount sadness in her voice making the friends of her siblings look at in her surprise. “After all they deserve it for your incompetence and ignoring my existence.” she then adds.
“Y/n, we-” Tanjiro was then cut off when his sister interrupt him. Y/n narrows her eyes. “Don’t Y/n me, brother. I'm no longer the same kind girl you and the rest of our family knew a long time ago. I already had enough because everybody here hates me but all I wanted was to help.” she rants as she tries her best not to let the tears fall from her eyes. “You were all focus on Nezuko and not me?!!! Do you have any idea that I've been suffering on the inside, do you?!” she then asks as her brother remain silent as the realization hit him hard. The Slytherin girl then looks at her twin but they don't look like twins anymore because she looks a bit older. “What about you, Nezuko? Have you even bothered to know what I feel? No, because you all just ignore me.” She then adds making Nezuko look down in shame. “That’s why a long time ago I ran away and left our dimension. I became Y/n Snape, the daughter of Severus Snape.” she then finishes as her father step forward as he stood next to her.
Muzan has the urge to take control and mock Y/n’s brother pretty much whom he thought he can pass his ideals to him when he's about to be defeated months prior in this world but in the Wizarding World it was about 2 years.
Severus then glares at his daughter’s biological siblings. “Idiot, ignorant, and selfish dunderheads. You two really thought things would go your way. Especially you.” He says as he looks at the older Kamado sibling. “You and your other siblings ignore Y/n. Took the things she done for granted but never bothered thanking her. People like you, get what they deserved in the end.” the former Potions Master then scowls. Seeing this Y/n then let the former Demon King take control as her eyes turn red. She then smiles wickedly. “What a shame.... I really thought about letting you to rule the world and continue my goals. However, now I think it wasn't worth it.” Muzan spoke through the Slytherin girl shocking Tanjiro, Nezuko, and their friends. The burgundy hair boy then forward his eyebrows. “Muzan Kibutsuji?!! You've survived?! And why are you controlling my sister?!!” he then demands making the former Demon King laugh darkly. “Control, her? Well, I didn't. She allowed me to take control.” she then says as the Kamado siblings and the others look surprise. “What?” Tanjiro asks not believing what he's hearing. “Don’t call Y/n your sister as just as she said before you are nothing but strangers to her now.” Muzan then informs. The former Potions Master then decides to speak. “Unfortunately, it escaped your notice but life is unfair and also cruel. As punishment because of what you did of ignoring the existence of my daughter. Kibutsuji’s soul merge with Y/n’s soul. My daughter's soul mark is the Blue Spider Lily which means he was the soulmate to my daughter.” He then reveals as the former Demon King while having control of Y/n’s body smirk while looking amuse by the others’ reaction.
“Y/n, for-forgive me...” Tanjiro says as he feels embarrass for what he had done to his beloved little sister. “No, it's too late for you to say those things to her...” She says, bitterly. “She's happy now. She's happy without you both anymore....” The former Demon King spoke through Y/n. “Yes, that's right in the dimension she currently lives with me. Of course, she has people she cared about in comparison to you dunderheads. If you treated her decently none of this would happen.” Severus then scowls.
‘Do you want me to kill them, my love?’ Muzan asks Y/n through their thoughts. The Slytherin girl then places her hand under her chin before she then starts speaking. “No, but keep them alive. I want them to suffer in misery and regret for what they did to me.” she then says making the former Demon King groan in annoyance but he decides not to argue. Muzan then looks at the burgundy-haired boy. “You’re lucky she told me not to kill you. Even though, I want to.” She then says as he and their friends get into combat position. The former Demon King then scowls. “I have no intention on killing you as it's just a waste of time.” she then says as Y/n’s eyes turn back to normal. She then takes out her wand pointing it out her brother, sister, and their friends. “Take one step or I'll hex you.” she then warns.
The two Kamado siblings want to approach their sister but with her pointing that stick at them and the look she's giving tells them she's no longer the same girl they knew. “Y/n.” Nezuko calls out but her twin just ignore her with her eyes narrowed.
Severus places a hand on his daughter’s shoulder making her look at him. “We should head back....” he says making the Slytherin girl then smile. “I would love that very much, Dad.” she then says in a soft tone before her stoic yet unreadable expression cross her face once more when she looks at her biological siblings. She just scowls before she and her father then flew away in black smoke. Tanjiro drop down to his knees as tears start falling from his eyes. The younger Kamado then kneels beside him as they both cried feeling regret for the things they did to their younger sister.
With the Snape family...
They find themselves in the passage way. The Slytherin girl then feels satisfied for the truth she said to her biological siblings. Y/n has a satisfied smirk which made her lover amuse as she gave them hurtful yet truthful things. Well, Muzan being her soulmate wa what shock and horrified them more. The former Potions Master then approaches his daughter as he holds his hand out in which she gladly took. To which they got through the portal. When the got through, they found themselves back in the woods on while they were gathering Potion ingredients. They then continue doing so.
Later back in Spinner's End in Y/n’s room....
Y/n was reading her father's copy of Advanced Potions Making. While her lover was watching her as she looks cute on how she's concentrated. Most of her behavior were planted on her by her father even though they weren't biologically related by blood. Y/n has people who cared about her. Her father, Muzan Kibutsuji; her lover, Draco Malfoy, Pansy Parkinson, Blaise Zabini, Mariam Nott; Theodore’s sister, Narcissa Malfoy; her Godmother, Lucius Malfoy; her Godfather, Professor McGonagall, and the late Headmaster Dumbledore. The Slytherin girl was satisfied with the life she has in the Wizarding World as she then let's go off her life back in her home dimension. She doesn't care about what happened to Tanjiro and Nezuko. It didn't matter to her. She then continues on her path to become a Potioneer.
End of this one-shot
Behind the scenes of this one-shot (play music feature on this one):
Y/n is seen dancing with her boyfriend who is pretty much Muzan in his final form from the Kimetsu no Yaiba Manga. She then giggles. “You know I like it when you look like this.” she then admits making her boyfriend chuckle. “You do, huh, my love?” Muzan says as he keep his arms around his girlfriend. They both keep dancing in the music. Y/n then looks at her boyfriend in the eye. “Are you okay about dancing without wearing shoes?” she asks worriedly as he chuckles. “Don’t worry, I can handle it. You knew I've been a part of a lot of dancing competition when I was back in High School.” he then says as they continue dancing with his girlfriend.
Muzan then carefully twirls Y/n around making her giggle. He then smiles softly. His girlfriend was surprised that he's able to continue dancing without slipping when he's not wearing shoes because his character’s final form doesn't wear any so he's barefooted.
The young actor slowly spin his girlfriend around making her yelp in surprise. “Calm down, love.. I won't let you go...” He assure his girlfriend. “You better..” She mumbles. Muzan continue dancing with her while they were looking at each other. After the music stop, the young actor then looks at his girlfriend. “You were a great dancer, my love.” he then compliments making Y/n blush. “I’ve had dance lessons when I was back in middle school.” she then admits. The young actor then pulls her close to him. “You were incredible, Y/n.” he then says as he felt her place her head against his bare chest. His girlfriend then looks at him. “They would at least let you appear in your character’s normal form not the final form.” she then mutters.
Muzan then immediately knew what she was feeling. After shooting scenes with him in this appearance. She seem to be very clingy when other people stare at him. The young actor could tell she was jealous. Muzan then carefully places his hand under her chin careful not to hurt Y/n with his fake long finger nails. “Are you jealous?” He asks carefully making his girlfriend look at him surprise. How did he knew?
“Why would I be jealous?” She ask innocently making Muzan to let out a breathy laugh. “Well, my love, it's pretty obvious that you are.” He says. Y/n rolls her eyes out and shove her boyfriend away a little. “Meanie...” She says along with a pout “Sorry. Sorry. ” The young actor replies before making his way to his beloved girlfriend. When he approach, Y/n let her hand go through the wig white he was wearing on his head for his character’s final form. Muzan gently grab her hand with his as he then took it to his before gently kissing it. “No need to be jealous, Y/n. I am yours and yours alone.” he says before moving Y/n’s hand to his chest. “Just as much you are mine.” he then adds.
The young actress blush at her boyfriend’s action. “M-Muzan, I-” she was interrupted when her boyfriend then kisses her. Muzan then wrap his arms around her waist. He then felt her wrap her arms around his neck.
They both then pull away but the young actor kept his arms around his girlfriend. They two then look at each other's eyes. After moments of silence, Y/n then sighs. “Fine, maybe I was a bit jealous. It's because we have to shoot when you look like this. I couldn't stand any other women staring at you in this appearance.” she says referring to where he was shirtless. Muzan then wrap his arm around her as he then places a kiss on her forehead. The young actor then looks at his girlfriend. “I know, my love, I noticed.” he then says before he then caresses her hair.
The young actress looks down as she was flustered for what her boyfriend said. “Oh, stop it.” She mumbles making her boyfriend chuckle. “You're so cute” He comments making the young actress even more flustered. “Muzan!” She whine before burying her face against the young actor's chest. Muzan then smiles softly. “This is one of the reasons on why I love you. You're so adorable when you look so flustered.” he then says.
The young actor then carefully caresses her hair with his fake long. “My feelings for you will never change. I am yours and yours alone.” He reassures his girlfriend. Hearing those words, Y/n then wrap her arms him. Muzan then wrap his arms around her. She is the only one he ever love so it would never changed.

Taking Chances Chapter Five: Paris Revealed (Stories/Memories)
Prev
AO3
Marinette flinches back as the room erupts in shouting. The younger boy, who was definitely younger than her and yet almost (if not definitely) taller than her, was fiercely glaring while he screamed at Mr. Wayne in….was that Arabic? The man that walked in with him was waving around the knife in his hand while Dick yelled at Mr. Wayne, his face filled with confusion instead of fury. Glancing around for a way out, Marinette makes eye contact with Alfred who nods behind him. Sneaking away from the group of angry men, Marinette follows Alfred into the kitchen and instantly feels at home. And much calmer.
“I’m sorry.” She mumbles, breathing deeply to avoid spiraling again. Alfred simply hands her a cookie before turning around and putting water in a kettle.
“There is no need to apologize, Miss Marinette. It seems Master Bruce has forgotten all sense today and is instead insistent on acting like a fool. It was wrong of him to announce you like that, without preparing you or the boys beforehand. I do hope that his atrocious display of proper manners doesn’t make you want to leave.” Alfred says, and Marinette’s eyebrows shoot upwards. Was he? Was Alfred actually blaming this situation on Mr. Wayne? Was it Mr. Wayne’s fault? Did he not actually hate her? Did he just make a mistake?
“I- what?” Marinette says, unsure of herself.
“You, my dear, are not at fault. Your father didn’t tell any of his sons that you were coming to the manor today, or that you existed in general. And judging by your face, you weren’t prepared for the boys to be here either.” Alfred clarifies.
“Oh. No, I wasn’t. Mr. Wayne just said that he wanted to get to know me, and he knew I wanted to get to know him. I- my birth mother passed away. But my Maman knew her, so I can find out from her how I’m similar to Bridgette. But neither of my parents knew Mr. Wayne, and I just wanted to know if I was like him, I guess. I didn’t even know who he was until two days ago.” Marinette admits.
“As in you found out Bruce Wayne was your birth father two days ago or-” Alfred trails off, waiting for her to clarify.
“Oh no. I found out the name of my birth father awhile ago. It’s just- I really don’t pay attention to celebrities. The only ones I really know are designers. So I didn’t put two and two together, and I didn’t even know about Bruce Wayne and Wayne Enterprises until a few days ago. My friend Adrien made me google him and that’s when I found out about...the boys.” She says, stopping herself from saying her brothers as she was still unsure if Mr. Wayne actually wanted her like he wanted the others.
“Well I’m certain that things will start to calm down shortly. In the meantime, would you care for some tea?” Alfred asks, holding up the kettle. Marinette nods gratefully, trying hard to stop her inner spiral from drowning her.
---
“What do you mean daughter?” Damian snarls, finally switching to English. Bruce blinks at the boy before sighing.
“I mean, you have a biological sister.” He says, tired and wishing he had been able to convince Marinette to go somewhere else. Not that he didn’t want her to meet her siblings. But it definitely wasn’t the laid back first meeting that he wanted.
“You mean half-sister.” Damian spits out, crossing his arms and sticking his nose into the air.
“Shut up, Demon Spawn. She’s our sister, get over it. Where’d the kid come from? Her mom drop her off?” Jason asks, obviously trying to actually understand the situation.
“No. I first met her at the Museum and had my suspicions. She’s in Gotham on a class trip, and before you ask, yes. We had a DNA test done and yes, I am her father.” Bruce says, frowning when he sees Dick’s hurt expression morph into one of excitement.
“Wait, wait, wait! Was she the girl who was sassing the Joker?” He asks quietly, practically buzzing with excitement. When Bruce nods, Dick cheers and runs from the room. Okay then.
“Wait, she met the Joker?” Jason asks, his expression turning dark. Bruce watches his son’s face morph into one of disgust when he puts it together. “She’s the French kid he had at gunpoint, isn’t she?”
“Yes. Which is one of the reasons why we both thought the manor would be a more appropriate meeting place rather than somewhere public.” Bruce says, sighing as Damian once again starts screaming. This was not what he had planned.
---
After just a few minutes with Alfred, Marinette already felt calmer. Calm enough to giggle at another story about something that one of the boys- one of her brothers- did. Calm enough to let her guard down. And mess up.
“If you wanna see something ridiculous, you should look up the 26th time Monsieur Ramier was akumatized into Monsieur Pigeon. He made all the buildings turn into bird cages and all the food turned into bird seed. Luckily it didn’t last long, but seeing the Mayor of Paris stuck inside a giant bird cage was kind of hilarious.” Marinette rambles, giggling at the memory. It was definitely a needed akuma, situated right between two super destructive akumas. Monsieur Pigeon was, while a nuisance, always a breath of fresh air. His akumatized form was brought on by his fierce protectiveness of the pigeons, which luckily never led to death for civilians.
“Pardon me, Miss Marinette, but could I ask what you mean by ‘akumatized’?” Alfred asks, his posture suddenly stiff. Marinette’s eyes widen as she realizes what she just did. She told someone outside of Paris about the situation happening in Paris. Well crap. Normal Parisians didn’t know about the media block that she had set up with the help of the Mayor and Max. But after her calls to the Justice League were ignored, and she realized how disastrous it would be for a member of the League to be akumatized, the media block was the best choice. Time to act clueless.
“Akumatized, as in, a person is possessed by an akuma? Surely you’ve heard of it. It’s been happening in Paris for almost two years.” She says, hoping he doesn’t ask to see any evidence. This isn’t good, this is awful, this-
“And what is an akuma?” Alfred asks. Okay, this isn’t too bad.
“It’s an evil butterfly sent out by the villain, Hawkmoth.” Marinette says, giving out more information than she’s really comfortable with. Okay, time to change the subject, no more questions about heroes or villains or-
“Marinette!” A new voice calls, sliding into the kitchen, almost immediately falling over.
“Master Dick, have you forgotten about your ban on the kitchen?” Alfred asks, his lips quirking up in amusement.
“Awww, Alfred, I just wanted to talk to Marinette. I feel bad for all of us overwhelming her back there.” Dick says with a pout that somehow doesn’t look ridiculous on him. Despite obviously being at least ten years older than her.
“Don’t feel bad. It was just...a lot all at once.” Marinette says with a small smile.
“So I have to ask, are you the one who sassed the Joker at the Museum the other day?” He asks, a wide grin on his face as he sits on one of the stools. Marinette’s eyes widen and she blinks. How?
“Oh, uh, yeah, I guess. It wasn’t a big deal though. He thought I was a Wayne- well, I guess he figured it out before I did- but I think he just wanted to scare my class.” She says, waving her hand to brush off the topic. She really didn’t want to talk about the Joker. Because she was sure it would turn into-
“I apologize for asking, but have you been caught up in the villain attacks in Paris before?” Alfred asks, Marinette instantly panicking. Sure, she’d been caught up in almost every single akuma battle as Ladybug. But there were a few on record where she was targeted as Marinette, and even a few battles that she assisted as Marinette. And then there was Kwami Buster…
“Well, a few. But basically everyone in Paris has dealt with it at some point. That’s just what happens when there’s an attack so often, you know? And my school seems to be a hotspot but that makes sense because teenagers are full of negative emotions and-” Marinette cuts off her rambling, cursing herself on the inside. Great job, Mari. Now they’re going to be worried or they’re going to think you’re a freak or-
“What do you mean negative emotions? Why would that matter?” Dick asks, his previous cheerful smile replaced with a look that clearly meant business.
“That’s how the villain chooses his targets. Negative emotion. If someone is having a bad enough day, he can take control of them and give them powers and basically destroy the city trying to get to Ladybug and Chat Noir, who are our heroes. I only know what’s been posted on official sites like the Ladyblog or miraculousparis.org.” Marinette says, smiling apologetically and hoping that this conversation can be over.
“Have you ever been akumatized?” Dick asks, tension suddenly filling the room.
“No, thankfully. I’ve found ways to manage my negative emotions so that they can’t take me over. I don’t blame anyone who has been akumatized, it’s hard not to be. But, I also don’t think I’d be able to forgive myself if I was akumatized.” Because then her family would be a target. Because Hawkmoth would know her identity. And if Hawkmoth’s insistence on her being akumatized was anything to go on, she’d be a devastating akuma. And if Ladybug wasn’t fighting in the battle….would the cure even work?
“That is a lot of pressure, Miss Marinette.” Alfred says softly after a moment of tense silence. Marinette grins brightly.
“I can handle it, don’t worry!” She says, hoping no one can tell how hard it actually is. How hard it is constantly being strong. Never truly feeling a negative emotion.
---
Bruce winces at the faux cheerfulness in his daughter’s voice. He had only found out about the Paris situation a few days ago, but he was determined to fix it. Find a solution. Do something to help the city and by extension, his daughter. She’d be going back there soon. Back to a city that was being held hostage by an emotional terrorist. Bruce would fix this. He had to.

“I’m SO Fired”
Spencer Reid x Reader
Summary: Spencer falls in love with Dave Rossi’s adopted daughter
Word Count: 2038
Warnings: canon-typical violence, mentions of brutal case, mentions of death of parents, that’s it. it’s mostly fluff
Tumblr media
“Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” -Anton Chekhov
~
Spencer was leaning over Emily’s desk, helping her with some details of her paperwork. He glanced up and noticed a beautiful woman briefly talking to Anderson before entering through the glass doors.
“Reid. Reid!” Emily said, snapping her fingers to get his attention.
“What? Oh, sorry.”
Emily shook her head. “And just like that, 187 gets slashed to 60.”
The woman walked over to the desk with the two. “Uh, hi,” you said. “Is Dave Rossi here?”
“Oh, um, he should be here. Did you- do you have a meeting with him?” Spencer asked.
“Kind of,” you said with a small laugh that made Spencer’s stomach flutter. “I’m-”
“(Y/N)!” Hotch said when he saw you.
“Aaron!”
Emily and Spencer exchanged glances as you gave Aaron a brief hug.
“Are you here to see your dad?” he asked you.
“Yeah, is he here?”
“He should be in his office. How long are you in town?”
“Just the weekend,” you said. “But I’m coming back in June for vacation.”
“Well, I’ll let you go see your dad,” Hotch said. As you walked up the stairs, he turned to see Spencer gawking at you. Emily looked at Hotch apologetically. Hotch sighed and said, “Reid, focus on your paperwork, not (Y/N) Rossi.”
~
You knocked on the office door, waiting to hear your father’s voice.
“Come in!” You pushed open the door and your adoptive father’s face lit up. “Tesorina!” he said, getting up to kiss your cheeks. “I was wondering when you were getting in. How’s work? And what about that boyfriend of yours? Anything-”
“Dad,” you said, cutting him off. “I’ll tell you everything you want to know at dinner. But you promised you’d introduce me to your team the next time I was in town.”
“I did promise that, didn’t I?” he said, pushing up from his desk. He slung his arm around your shoulder and steered you out of his office. The team was gathered in the bullpen, and they all turned to face Rossi when he cleared his throat. “Guys, this is my daughter, (Y/N).” He then introduced each team member to you, save for Aaron.
“Wow, Rossi, I didn’t know you even had a daughter,” Morgan said.
“Gee, Dad, you don’t talk about me to your coworkers? I’m hurt,” you said, pressing your hand over your heart.
Rossi rolled his eyes. “Drama queen.”
“So, you’re a Rossi?” Emily asked you.
“Not biologically. Dave adopted me when I was five,” you explained.
“Initially, I was just fostering her for a little while, but I fell in love with this little rascal,” he said, ruffling your hair.
You set about fixing your hair. “Well, I gotta run. See you at the house for dinner?”
“Yeah, I should be done around 6. Don’t get into trouble.”
“Me, get into trouble? When have I ever been known to do that?” You shot a wink at the man you now knew to be Dr. Reid before leaving the BAU.
Spencer’s cheeks turned pink and he felt Rossi’s eyes on him. He looked down at his desk, busying himself with organizing his pen cup. When he heard Rossi’s office door close, he let out a breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding.
Derek rolled his chair over to Spencer’s desk. “You’re looking a little flushed there, Pretty Boy. That wouldn’t have anything to do with Ms. Rossi, would it?”
“Shut up, Morgan,” he muttered, focusing on folding a small piece of paper on his desk into even smaller squares.
~
Dave walked into his house (mansion) to the smell of garlic bread and tomato sauce. He smiled and set his coat on the rack by the door.
“You know, I would have cooked!” he called as he made his way to the kitchen. You were setting the table for the both of you.
“Yes, but how often do you actually cook?” you asked him as you poured two glasses of red wine. “You’re always away on cases, I know how much fast food and takeout you eat. Now shut up and enjoy my carbonara.”
Dave chuckled and sat down at the table across from you. “So, how’s work going?” he asked you.
You shrugged. “You know, there’s good days and bad days. We had a brother and his little sister get adopted together this week, which is always one of the big wins for us.”
He nodded. “What about that boyfriend of yours, Chad?”
“Oh, we broke up,” you said. “About a month ago.”
“Good, I didn’t really like him.”
“Dad, you say that about every guy I date.”
“And it’s true, I haven’t liked any of the guys you’ve dated.”
“Yeah, the only guys you’ve liked have been the ones you’ve tried to set me up with.”
“That’s not true!”
“Dad, remember Stephen?”
“I thought you would be a good match, honest. And before you say it, it’s not just because I’m overly protective.”
“So, we can admit you’re overprotective of me?” you said.
“Of course I am. And can you blame me?”
“I guess not,” you said with a shrug. “And you could be worse. I could still be living here.”
“Oh, come on. Would that be so bad, having a huge house mostly to yourself?”
“Well, no, but I like living in Pennsylvania,” you said. “And I like having an apartment.” Your father gave you a skeptical look. “Stop profiling me.”
“Sorry, it’s hard to turn it off.” He took a sip of his wine. “You’re planning to go to the cemetery tomorrow, aren’t you?”
“I do every year, you know that.”
“Yeah. They’d be so proud of you, you know.”
You smiled down at your plate and pushed the pasta around. “I know. I, uh, I don’t have many memories of them anymore,” you said. “But the one I’ve been trying to get rid of is still there.”
Dave reached across the table and grabbed your hand. “Hey. Your parents loved you, so much. That’s all you need to remember, okay? They loved you so much that they sacrificed themselves for you.”
“Yeah.”
You lost your parents when you were five. There was a serial killer in the Greater DC Area, a family annihilator. He’d called himself the Orphan Maker. The man would seek out young families with kids no older than 8 and kill the parents first, in front of the children. Then he would kill the children.
Rossi had been on that case, and had found that your family was the next target. Unfortunately, they did not get to your family before the man killed your parents. But fortunately, they caught him before he could get you.
Rossi felt guilty they didn’t make it in time. When the law officers found that you didn’t have any family to take you in, Dave offered to bring you home. The plan was to originally just be a foster parent to you until CPS found a place for you to stay officially. But he fell in love with you. You were a little spitfire, a little troublemaker. Dave adopted you and dedicated the rest of his life to taking care of you and protecting you.
~
“Hey, Rossi!” Morgan said as he met the man in the kitchen to get coffee. “How was your weekend with (Y/N)?”
Rossi noticed Reid’s back straighten at the mention of (Y/N)’s name. He smiled to himself, a plan forming in his head. It was a bit of a convoluted plan, but it would work out for everyone in the end.
“Oh, it was fine. She made me watch an episode of that show Reid and Garcia like.” He glanced over at Spencer’s desk and noticed he was listening intently. “I agreed since she’s still recovering from a recent breakup.”
“Is she okay?” Derek asked. “I know breakups can really suck.”
“She’ll be okay, she bounces back quick. I didn’t like the guy anyway. He was a meathead jock who thought being the high school quarterback was his entire personality. I want her to find a guy who’s smart and kind, someone I like.” He walked out of the kitchenette and passed Reid’s desk. He clapped his shoulder. “Morning, Reid.”
~
You were back in the area for a week-long vacation, and Dave had promised to go sight-seeing in DC with you.
You walked into the bullpen and were greeted by Penelope, who had quickly become your friend. She wrapped you in a hug before Rossi made his way over to you.
“Hey, Dad. You ready to go?” you asked after giving him a hug.
“Um, actually, I have to work late. But, you know, Dr. Reid here,” Spencer’s head snapped up from where he was packing his bag at the mention of his name, “knows more about the area than anyone I know. He can show you around. Right, Reid?”
Spencer looked like a deer caught in the headlights. He cleared his throat. “Uh, yeah. Yeah, sure.”
You smiled at him and Spencer felt the butterflies that were already in his stomach go crazy. The two of you walked out of the office, Spencer nervously gripping the strap of his bag while you walked alongside him.
Penelope looked at Rossi narrowing her eyes. “You don’t have to work late.”
Rossi smiled. “No.”
Penelope gasped. “You’re trying to set them up, aren’t you?”
“I will neither confirm nor deny,” Rossi said before walking back to his office.
~
“So, Dr. Reid,” you said as the two of you walked out of the FBI building, “I heard you’re a huge Doctor Who fan.”
Spencer turned to look at you, losing his footing and tripping on the sidewalk. He straightened himself up and cleared his throat. “You, uh, you can call me Spencer. And yeah, I’m-I’m a fan.”
You smiled and Spencer thought the sun had come out again with the brightness you radiated. “Who’s your favorite? Personally, I’m a Tennent girl, but Baker is a close second.” Spencer was staring at you, his jaw dropped. “What?”
“You might be the hottest girl I’ve ever met.”
~
When Spencer woke up, the first thing he noticed was the beautiful woman asleep next to him, her head on his bare chest. He smiled and ran his hand through your hair as you started stirring.
“Morning,” he said as you looked up at him, resting her chin on his chest.
“Morning, Pretty Boy.” You saw his smile falter and his eyes go wide. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m so fired,” he said. “I slept with my boss’s daughter. I’m so fired. No, I’m more than fired. I’m dead. Rossi is going to kill me.”
“Hey. Spence, breathe,” you said, cupping his face in your hands. “He’s not going to do anything to you. And if he tries, he’ll face my wrath.”
Spencer chuckled. “Well, after that guy drove through that puddle and splashed you last night, I believe it.” He was silent for a moment as the two of you sat up in the bed. Spencer wrapped his arms around you, pulling your back to his chest. “What are you going to tell him when you go home?”
You shrugged, leaning your head back. “The truth. I got to know a sweet guy last night and I stayed the night at his place.”
Spencer smiled and gave you a soft kiss.
~
You slipped into the Rossi Manor, feeling like a teenager missing curfew again. You got about halfway through the kitchen before hearing Dave clear his throat. You spun around to see him standing by the kitchen island with a cup of coffee.
“Oh, uh, morning, Dad.”
“So, you were out all night.”
“Yep.”
“And you’re wearing the same clothes.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Who is he?” When you didn’t answer, he said, “Spencer?”
Your face paled. “How did-”
“You didn’t really think you could hide that from an old profiler, did you?” He handed you the mug. “Don’t worry, I approve. I’d be more than happy to have Spencer as a son.”
“Dad!”

Part 2 to the supernatural MBAV crossover ✌️ Also this is on crack so I’m sorry in advance. Lol.
“Oh my gosh, Jack! We’ve been living here for two weeks! Do you know what that means?! We actually live here.” Y/N said excitedly.
“Yeah. I like it here I hope we stay awhile.”
“I have a boyfriend now! Do you know how cool that is?”
“You what?!” Dean exclaimed.
“Don’t eavesdrop! It’s none of your concern.”
“Yes it is. I’m your dad!”
“Moms handle the boys and the periods, and she promised me she’d visit sometime this week, so therefore, it’s none of your concern.”
“Since when have you had contact with Amara?”
“Since like a month ago. Uncle Chuck taught her about the world of cellphones. She promised she’d drop by for at least an hour. You don’t think she’s going to flake on me do you?” Tears welled up in her eyes. Dean held his arms out for a hug.
“Hey, come here, kid. Your mom has done a lot of bad things, but if there’s one thing I know for sure about her, it’s that she never says something unless she means it. Now about the boyfriend thing…”
“His name is Benny, he likes Star Wars, and he’s a calculus nerd. Good enough?”
“Come on Dean. Calculus nerd? You have nothing to worry about.” Sam chimed in.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right, Sammy.”
“Does that mean that me and Jack can go hang out with him and our other friends tonight?” Y/N asked hopefully, putting on the puppy eyes she had inherited from her uncle.
“Fine, but don’t be out any later than 1 am okay?”
“Got it. Would you be mad if we left right now?”
“No. It’s fine. Go ahead, but Jack she is not to be left in a room alone with this punk. Got it? Good.”
Y/N rolled her eyes. “Drama queen.” She muttered.
“I heard that!”
“Good!”
All of their friends had already arrived by the time they got there. The only thing missing was pizza.
“Dude the delivery guy was so slow last time though. Someone should just go get it. I’m starving.” Ethan complained.
“Not it.” Y/N and Erica said at the same time. Benny and Jack both looked at Sarah.
“Um…don’t look at me. I’m babysitting.” She gestured to Jane who was sitting peacefully watching Dusk.
“I’ll go.” Jack volunteered. Y/N tossed him the keys to the Jeep.
“Don’t wreck my baby.” She said sternly, laying on the floor beside Jane.
“Careful. You sound like your dad.” Jack joked. Y/N threw a pillow at him.
“Okay. Okay. I’m going.”
“So this Dusk thing, what is it even about?” Y/N asked. Erica immediately jumped in.
“Oh my god. It is so good. You’ve never seen Dusk? It’s about a human who falls in love with a vampire and vice versa, but there’s also this werewolf that’s in love with the girl, but she ends up choosing the vampire because, duh, she’s in love with him, but anyways it’s so good and you have to watch all of them with me some time.”
“I’ve seen the Vampire Diaries but I’ve never watched this.”
“Oh my God. Don’t you just love the Salvatore brothers?”
“I love Damon, but I’m not huge on Stefan. Oh and Katherine is so hot, but my favorites are Kol and Kai.”
“You have a thing for murderers with sociopath tendencies and you’re dating Benny?” Erica asked.
“Okay, just leave me alone. Kai is hot and he had reason to murder his entire family.” Literally the entire room was just looking back and forth between them in confusion.
“Remind me to never leave you two alone.” Sarah said.
“Did you just say murdered his entire family casually in a sentence?” Benny asked.
“Yes. If you guys watched the show you would totally get it. Although Jack doesn’t and I made him watch it but then again his biological dad is literally satan-“
“Wait. Wait. Wait. First of all, Castiel isn’t his biological dad? Second of all what is his biological father a serial killer or something?” Ethan asked.
That was when Y/N registered what she had said. “It’s not my place to tell you guys about his biological dad, so like please don’t tell him I told you anything.”
Everyone agreed and dropped it. Soon after Jack came back with the pizza. “Who’s hungry?”
“I am.” Erica whispered passive aggressively under her breath. Sarah elbowed her and gave her a look, mouthing the words shut up.
Benny, Ethan, Jack, and Jane all grabbed a slice.
“Want one?” Benny asked.
“No I’m fine. Thanks though.” Y/N said. Her mood had noticeably dropped, and it was because she was thinking of her mother. What if she didn’t come like she’d promised? Well, at least her cousin Gabriel promised a visit soon, despite her father’s protest.
“Hey what’s wrong?” Sarah asked her.
“It’s stupid. My mom told me that she was going to visit me sometime this week, but I’m worried she won’t show up.” At that very moment Amara appeared in the room. Now there was a lot of explaining to be done.
“Holy shit! Who are you and how did you do that?!” Ethan exclaimed.
“Wow. Gorgeous alert.” Erica said, ignoring the fact that a woman she didn’t know had just appeared out of nowhere. Y/N immediately jumped up and hugged her.
“I missed you, mom.” She muttered into her hair.
“Mom?!” They all asked at once.
“Woah. Woah. Woah. So what are you then?” Benny asked.
“Why are you guys not very freaked out about this?” Jack asked.
“We know about the supernatural, but nothing like this.” Ethan said still in shock.
“So, you made friends? I’m proud of you. How’s your dad doing?” Amara said.
“Same old. Same old. Sad, confused, protective.”
“Wait how do you guys know about the supernatural?” Jack asked ignoring the side conversation.
“That depends. How do you feel about vampires, warlocks, and seers?” Benny asked.
“Wait! You’re vampires?!” Y/N exclaimed suddenly.
“Not all of us. Just Erica and Sarah.” Ethan said.
“You guys haven’t even the ones killing people have you, because that would suck because then I’d have to kill you.”
“No, but really?! Kill us?!” Sarah exclaimed.
“My family hunts the supernatural! You guys have got to stay on the downlow or my dad and my uncle will straight up kill you and not think twice, please be careful!”
“Are warlocks on that list?” Benny asked.
“Wait, you’re a waflock and you didn’t tell me?!”
“We still don’t know what you two are and I think I speak for everyone when I say I would like to know!”
Y/N sighed. This would be a long conversation. She took in a deep breath. “So, my dad is the vessel of the archangel Michael aka the person Michael needed to possess to win the apocalypse which already happened by the way. My dad kind of saved the world. My Uncle Sam on the other hand is the vessel of Lucifer who is Jack’s biological dad which makes Jack a nephilim, and by the way Lucifer is actually pretty chill. But that’s beside the point. This is Amara my mom aka the darkness aka god’s sister which kind of makes me a Demigod which makes god aka Chuck my uncle and Lucifer, Michael and Gabriel my cousins which makes Jack my second cousin and also by the way Castiel is an angel too. Oh and also my dad is kind of gay for Cas but neither of them will admit but you know, subtext.”
They all looked at her with wide eyes. “If you plan on sticking with me welcome to my dysfunctional family.” She announced.
“Are they okay?” Amara whispered.
“Maybe. I don’t know.” Y/N whispered back.
“Ya know what? Cool. Also can we just talk about how Y/N has hot parents? MILF alert. Like it finally makes sense why she is so pretty.” Erica said casually.
“What’s a MILF?” Amara asked her. Y/N face palmed.
“It’s good. It’s a compliment, but don’t say it to anyone , ever.” Y/N tried to explain.
“Anyways…I guess I’m gonna go and let you all process this interaction. Benny, call me. Bye!” They all left, and Y/N insisted that they take the Jeep and not just teleport.
When they got back to the house everyone kind of just looked at each other awkwardly. “Mom and I are gonna go…what do normal teenage girls do with their non supernatural mothers? Paint their nails? We’ll go do that. See you soon.”
Dean looked at Jack waiting for an explanation. “I’ve got…homework. Yeah. Anyways bye.”
“What just happened?” Sam asked.
Dean shrugged. “Don’t know. Don’t care.”

Where There Is Change
Overprotection

~~~~~~~~~~
One week.
One week without her brother is all it took to break her patience.
No, she didn’t break away from her story with the press release that happened literally two days after she started school.
No, what finally broke her was what the students did to her brother, specifically this group of five that were intentionally seeking out places she was that in order to talk about her family.
Sure, she understood why they talked about Damian, he is Gotham's Ice Prince, the person you do not want to get on the bad side of.
But moments that she wasn’t with him, people spoke awfully about him. And mostly about how he was born as a bastard child.
She pretty much assumes that when she’s not around they speak the same about her.
Both of them were conceived without his knowledge, until years later. Sure, it hurts to hear them talk about her dad like that.
But she also understands it to an extent.
Brucie Wayne, is an act he puts up. Brucie Wayne is a playboy the longer someone plays the playboy people, will come to the conclusion of him having several unknown children.
However, she also knows Brucie Wayne is a cover for her father, in the past twenty years or so since the time he pretty much became Batman, Brucie Wayne has been a cover. So much so that even the media plays into.
But what she can’t stand are the remarks her 'peers' make about her little brother, about all her siblings.
The remarks that, she is technically the older biological child. But that she still deserves a chair in the company. She is so mad that they are dismissing all of Tim's work he's put into the company. That they are dismissing her brothers just because she is the first-born biological child, that she should be the next C.E.O. People talk over him as if he isn’t there.
They talk about Jason, how he is the troubled child. That he ruins their father's name.
That Dick is just a novelty for Bruce. The first child he decide to adopt. That he’s no more than that, Bruce Wayne’s first ward.
She hates that they call Cassandra a basket case because she won’t talk.
Or how Duke is yet another charity case, simply because of his skin color.
They forget about her because she looks so American, so white, so European.
They forget that she is part Chinese, because she has such big blue eyes, fair skin, and dark black hair just like her father.
---
So back to school.
Damian was on assignment with the Teen Titans, so she was going to school alone. They said something about Damian getting an awful constant 103 fever, they didn’t want to risk anyone else to catch what he had.
So, she did what she usually did, she went outside like usual during lunch. When all of a sudden, the group of five kids in her year 'seemed' to be strolling past.
She thinks it’s still hasn’t sunk in that there’s a new Wayne. Or that they know but want to haze her. Because they are openly bashing her little brother.
"I’m sorry, but what did you just say." She stood up and looked at them.
"Well not that it’s any of your business, but Damian is such a menace, he is practically a terrorist." One of the boys started.
"Have you seen how angry he gets, I swear he could blow up the school, and he’ll still get let back in." A girl butt in.
"He’s already been expelled twice, but they keep letting him back in because he’s Bruce Wayne’s son." The final boy spoke rolling his eyes and she lost it.
She grabbed him, pulled him towards her, gave him a quick punch in the nose. Forcing him to reel back stumbling away from her.
"Let’s get one thing straight." She spoke, hands clenched in fists. "My baby brother isn’t a terrorist. He may be a menace, but he’s not a terrorist. Can any of you actually tell me the reasons why he got expelled."
Silence, pure silence was heard from the entire group.
"No, you can’t. Because like you said it’s none of your goddamn fucking business." At this point her French accent was slipping into her words, because she was getting really mad. She had to physically dig her nails into her palms to stop her magic from exploding.
"So why don’t you all just mind your own fucking business and maybe pay attention who you’re talking about, around who."
The entire group turned and ran, their tails between their legs and they scrambled to get away from her. She may have been known as the approachable Wayne between the two twins, but they messed with her brother. And they really didn’t know what they were talking about.
As soon as, the bell rang to end lunch her name came across the intercom. She grabbed her things and walked to the office knowing full well what was about to happen.
What she didn’t expect that out of all the people that would have been called the person who showed up was Jason.
If she had to cover the ever-growing grin on her face, or else the adults may have figured out that this was the wrong brother to call.
"We are so sorry to have called you today Mr. Todd-Wayne, but we have to discuss your sister’s behavior." The principal spoke as both of them sat down.
"Ok I'll hear you out, but after you explain what happened she will. And neither of you guys can interrupt the other got it. So, go." He pointed at the principle.
"Your sister has been accused of physical assault of another student."
"Is this true?" He turned to her.
"Yes." She answered.
"Why?" Jason asked as he rubbed his hands down his face.
She knows he has a shit eating grin that was slowly going to be spreading across his face, because his aura was almost giddy.
"You see they’ve not only been talking shit about Damian but Tim, Duke, Cass, Dick, and even you. If you want, I have several forms of video tape and audio proof if you’d like to see those."
"But let’s get back on point. We believe that you may have broken his nose."
"Okay, but I am not going to apologize, seeing as I was protecting my little brother, who is not here to defend himself."
She looked over to her brother and the ass had a shit eating grin plastered across his face.
"Why don’t I sign my sister out for the rest of the day, you know what, what about the whole
week, because I'm assuming suspension is an option?"
The principal however didn’t know how to react to Jason, so he absentmindedly pushed a stack of papers towards Jason and pointing to where he was to sign and initial. And then allowed them to leave.
"We’re not telling Bruce, are we?" She asked quietly.
"Not unless you want to deal with that right now?"
"No."
"Then let’s see how far we can get from Gotham."
"Yes please." She enthusiastically nodded her head, as they left the city.
“Are you paw-sitive this is alright?” Selina half-purred half-asked. The slender cat thief was dressed casually— for her, anyway— in a floor length amethyst purple gown that swept just barely above the floor, accentuating her curves and coming down in a deep V neck that was just barely within the constraints of being acceptable for public appearances. Her companion, almost half a foot shorter even in her short heels, was a stark contrast. It was as if all the two women had in common was their hair color, a rich deep black that shimmered blue in the right lighting.
Marinette, with her hair done up in two buns and wearing a sensible pink-and-white cheongsam top with apple blossom embroidery paired with an ankle-length denim skirt that had a knee-high slit in the front, nodded even as she eyed her friend’s choice of outfit with a small frown.
“Of course. Bruce is in the media’s eye all the time, and he knows I don’t have a care for the spotlight. But you do,” Marinette stopped talking for a second, snapping her fingers and reaching into her purse. She pulled out a gorgeous inch-thick collar necklace that was made entirely of thick panels of flawless silver and high-quality diamond. At the very center of the collar necklace, where it would hang right in the center of Selina’s collarbone, was a diamond-and-obsidian cat face. “I knew I was forgetting something! Bourgeois owed me a favor for doing the outfit for her last magazine cover pro bono, so I asked for this as payment. It’s exactly what your outfit is missing.”
Just because Marinette didn’t like revealing clothing didn’t mean she couldn’t appreciate someone else wearing one well, after all. And Selina wore her dress perfectly.
Selina quirked an eyebrow, eyeing the necklace with her expert gaze. Gently, she trailed her fingertips over the tops of the diamonds in the thick bands of the collar as a small smile flicked over her lips. She raised her eyes up to Marinette’s, light green eyes sparkling with mischief and knowing.
“You got this as a bribe for me, didn’t you kitten?”
Marinette smiled unashamedly. “I know you’re a proud lesbian, but would you mind playing the role of Bruce’s girlfriend, just for the media? And only while you’re single, of course. If you ever want out, you only have to say the word. Bruce already agreed, but he also doesn’t mind continuing to play the careless bachelor if you aren’t willing.”
Selina scoffed, rolling her eyes and grabbing the necklace. Effortlessly, she swung it around her neck and clasped it in place. “Please, darling. You and I both know it drives you up a wall when Brucie is hounded by gold diggers every time he steps foot out of that mansion of his. I’ll play the camera-girlfriend, but only for a maximum of a year. And you two can only call on me one a week at most, a girl’s gotta have some time to herself.”
Marinette nodded eagerly. “That’s fine! We probably won’t even call on you that much, Bruce is planning to play the ‘we want to keep our relationship pretty low-key’ card for now. Just an appearance once a month or two ought to satisfy those vampiric paparazzi.”
Selina just smiled. She had practically adopted Marinette years previous, during a trip to Paris where she had found out she apparently had a male doppelgänger. Now the two were sisters in all but official (Not-forged) legal documents. And because of that, Bruce had somehow become her brother.
Which Bruce later found out, meant that Selina would relentlessly tease him every time she needed to appear as his “girlfriend.”
Relentlessly.
But Marinette and Bruce had a Plan. She wasn’t quite ready to make a public appearance as his real girlfriend, mostly because of loose ends that still had to be tied back in France. She was making so many trips back and forth between the two countries that they couldn’t see each other in person much to begin with, so they also didn’t want their few in-person meetings tainted by greedy D-rate journalists.
But yes, they had a Plan. One year was the perfect time frame for the last stretch of said plan. Marinette would tie up the last few things she had to do in Paris, start an official branch of her fashion company in Gotham, and they would stage an entire break-up with Selina, a three-month “break” to “recover” and then a suitably dramatic, romantic “meet-cute” between the two of them to start what the media would see as a love-at-first-sight, fairytale relationship.
Nobody needed to know about Marinette and Bruce’s five-year pining session, or their one-year fumble through figuring out how to date one another before actually getting it right, or the most recent three-years of dealing with the fact that they were both highly experienced hero/vigilantes, the leaders of their own hero teams, and highly accomplished business people.
It was a hard relationship utterly riddled with drama, but they had finally reached the stable point where they were ready to commit. Sort of. They just needed Selina to fake-date Bruce in the public eye for a couple months, and then everything would be fine.
—*—*—*—*—*
One year and three months later.
Marinette shifted her purse on her shoulder. This would be her first time in over five years actually setting foot inside the Wayne Manor. She was excited to see Alfred again, and to hash out the last details for her and Bruce’s public “meet-cute.” But Alfred didn’t open the door this time, a short green-eyed boy with an all-too-familiar frown on his face did.
And once again, Marinette knew that Selina was not the mother. Her pseudo-sister was, as she had said so long ago, a very proud lesbian. But Marinette did know of a past fling of Bruce’s who did possess the proper genes to help create a child of this age.
Marinette smiled, pushing her inner rage at the thought of Talia Al Ghul out of her mind. She was still pissed beyond all rational thought when she heard about what Talia had done to Bruce. But this child was not at fault for any of it, only an innocent by-product.
“Hello. My name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Would you mind telling Alfred I’m here?”
“Tt. Why should I?” The apparently bratty boy asked, crossing his arms and glaring straight at her. Marinette felt her eye twitch.
“I am a close friend of Bruce— Would I be correct in assuming he’s your biological father?” Immediately upon her question, the boy’s eyes widened ever so slightly in shock before his glare intensified. Marinette chuckled. “He didn’t tell me that he adopted any new children, and he always tells me when he adopts. Which means he didn’t have to adopt you, suggesting you are related to him directly. You can’t be a cousin or nephew, he has no living blood family. And all his pseudo-siblings are alive and fine, so you weren’t left to his care in anybody’s will,” she deduced out loud for him. “Plus, the green eyes and tan skin— I know of exactly one of Bruce’s past… suitors… who happens to fit the timeframe and features necessary.”
The boy raised an eyebrow. “Most assume that I am that harlot Selina Kyle’s spawn,” he snapped, but it lacked the same heat this time around. He was now analyzing her face closely, and Marinette noticed. She was careful to keep her eagerness toned down. She really just wanted to see Bruce and be able to hug and cuddle him for the first time in almost a year, and this child was her only obstacle at the moment. A very stubborn one.
Marinette sighed. “Selina is like a sibling to me, don’t call her a harlot. If Selina was ever pregnant, I would have known. Hell, Selina would have given me her baby to raise because she doesn’t have any interest in being a mother. Now, the polite thing to do when someone introduces themselves is so introduce yourself back. Not interrogate or intimidate them.”
The boy huffed, straightening his emerald turtleneck and rolling his shoulders back. “I am Damian Wayne,” he replied imperiously. “And Father has never mentioned a friend by the name Marinette. Which leads me to believe you are yet another no good hopeful suitor, and Father is still recovering after he and Kyle finally split up for good.”
Marinette froze, and slowly her eyes narrowed. “He never mentioned my name? Ever?”
“Tt. I already said no.”
Finally, the shape of Alfred Pennyworth came into view behind Damian. He had obviously heard the last bit of the conversation, because he just sighed and shared a long suffering look with Marinette. It was that look that made Marinette’s eye twitch a second time.
“Alfred,” she said slowly. “Has he mentioned me at all to any of his kids?”
“He has not,” Alfred replied. “And furthermore, Miss Selina would not stop giving him a hard time whenever he had to call her out for an appearance. It seems all of the children mistook their relationship for actually being of a romantic nature.”
Damian spun to the butler, eyes wide and swimming with a multitude of emotions. “What do you mean, ‘actually’, Alfred?”
“He means,” Marinette began before Alfred had the chance. Her eyes were narrowed, matching storms of dark, furious blue. “That Selina was only pretending to be Bruce’s girlfriend so that the press and gold-diggers would leave him alone. And apparently I need to beat some sense into my stupid, idiotic boyfriend, who I should have known would do something like this,” she looked up at Alfred, jaw clenching. “That man would never be able to pass for a functioning human without either you or me keeping his head screwed on. Where is he?”
“Not at the manor currently, Mademoiselle Marinette.”
“Alfred.”
The butler gave Marinette a rather mischievous little grin. “Master Bruce has forbade me from telling you where he is currently, he wanted you to stay at the manor and sleep the jet lag off until he got back. But I can tell you that he is not currently on Earth or on a mission.”
“Alfred!” Damian hissed, shocked that the man would say something so revealing. Alfred was the perfect secret keeper, why would he tell someone Bruce had never mentioned something so telling?”
“Oh, calm yourself Master Damian,” Alfred soothed. “Marinette has known about Master Bruce’s nighttime activities since before you were born. If anything, I believe he rightfully deserves the wake up call he is about to receive.”
Marinette nodded, eyes still stormy and determined. “Alright, so he’s at the Watchtower. The Zeta tunes are still in the Batcave, right?” When Alfred nodded, Marinette wasted no time. She easily slid around Damian and stormed into the manor, finding her way to the Batcave on pure muscle memory and rage.
“Wait, Alfred! I demand an explanation!” Damian’s loud voice slowly grew quieter as Marinette stormed down into the cave, ignoring how Alfred began to calmly explain the situation to the boy. She just slid right in to the Zeta tube, and commanded the computer to send her to the Watchtower.
“P-001, codename LADYBUG, recognized.”
—*—*—*—*—*
Batman pinched his nose from where he stood at the head of the meeting room in the watchtower. The briefing was supposed to start over an hour ago, but Hal Jordan had been twenty minutes late. No surprise there. But still, SuperMan had insisted that they wait until everyone arrived. And really, normally Batman would too. Except that his long time girlfriend was going to be landing in Gotham any minute now, and he would rather be back at the manor to greet her.
And the asinine argument that had been going on for the past forty minutes was finally going to end, even if Bruce had to hogtie every last one of his insufferable coworkers himself and force them through the rest of the meeting strapped to their chairs.
“Okay, can we PLEASE begin the meeting now, or so help me I will break out my kryptonite restraints,” he threatened darkly. He might have only mentioned Kryptonite, but everyone knew that that threat was actually aimed at all of them. Batman knew every last one of their weaknesses and was not above being petty when they strained his last nerve.
Quickly getting the hint, the entire room rushed to fill their seats and at least fake at paying attention. But of course, nothing goes quite right in the life of Bruce Wayne. Right as he turned on the slideshow he had prepared and began the meeting, the sound of an enraged woman’s voice echoed down the hallway in a deafening roar.
“BRUCE THOMAS WAYNE, YOU ARE IN SOOOO MUCH TROUBLE!”
Batman felt as if someone had just shoved him into a cryogenic freezer, a harsh shiver of dread running down his spine. There was exactly one person who could terrify him with a single word, and it just so happened to be the woman he was hiding a wedding ring from.
For the past eight years, but that’s neither here nor there.
“Oh shit,” Bruce breathed, but found he was unable to move from his spot. Yes, he wanted to see Marinette so badly that it hurt. But he also would like to stay alive.
SuperMan leaned forward, not really concerned since Batman would have reacted much differently had the voice been coming from a real threat. Instead, the man leveled his old friend with a very teasing smirk.
“Why is your heart suddenly racing?”
Bruce could only glare daggers at Clark before the door to the meeting room swung open, a tiny French woman standing there in a long, formal white-and-pink knee-length gown with a cheongsam neckline and one of her leaf-green heels held in each hand threateningly.
“You absolute idiot! When I said I wanted to keep our relationship out of the public eye, I didn’t mean to keep me a secret from EVERYBODY!”
“But darling—“ Bruce cut himself off as he was forced to dodge one deadly-accurate piece of flying footwear. “You don’t understand. The boys cannot keep a secret to save their life.”
“They have secret identities, don’t they?” She slipped her other shoe back on. She had known that her shoe never had a chance of hitting, and with Bruce in full Batman gear, even if it had hit him the high heel would have felt like she had only thrown a pillow. Had it been otherwise, she wouldn’t have even joked about throwing her shoes at him. But as it stood, she knew none of the normal things she had on her would be able to so much as make Bruce say “ow.”
Marinette placed both of her fists on her hips, marching up to Batman and pulling him down the full foot it took for him to be able to look her in the eye. His resulting gulp was clearly audible, and visible, to everyone else in the room. “You absolute, emotionally dense moron,” her voice had dropped from a yell to a mildly fond, but still very annoyed, grumble. “Your kids are mostly adults now, you know. And you never told me about Damian either. Did you honestly think I’d be mad?” Bruce looked away from her, which was honestly all the answer she needed. Marinette sighed, letting him go and softening her voice. “You need to trust your kids more, Bruce. I never wanted you to keep me a secret from your family, or even your close friends. Just the annoying ass paparazzi. And trust me a little bit more, yeah? I know it isn’t exactly your strong suit, but I’ve known you long enough that you should know I’m not gonna run for the hills just because you have a biological kid that wasn’t with me.” Marinette risked giving him a slightly vulnerable, lopsided smile. And Bruce immediately deciphered what it meant. His shoulders slumped.
The cost of using the Ladybug Miraculous for so long was that Marinette had to give up her fertility. She could never have children of her own, and Bruce had felt guilty that he had had a biological child, even though he hadn’t exactly consented to it, without her. But now he could see where he went wrong.
Marinette was just happy to have another piece of him to take care of. She never would have resented him for what had happened with Talia. And, seeing all of those facts written on her face now, he felt more than a little blind.
“... sorry.”
Marinette just huffed out a short, soft laugh before grabbing Bruce by the bicep. She turned to look at the other heroes still in the room, half of them uncomfortable with seeing such an emotional display while the others looked like they were incredibly invested in a good soap opera. She shot them a grin.
“I’m stealing him for the next few days, okay? Don’t worry, I’m sure you can make do with making Diana read the slideshow. I know from experience that it has everything you guys need to know and more. Don’t call us, I’ll field all your contact to Agent A!!” With that, she dragged Bruce by the arm out of the room.
To be fair, he wasn’t exactly resisting. Even if the reunion was far from ideal, just having this little bit of contact was extremely relaxing for the vigilante. When they reached the Zeta Tubes, he stopped Marinette and pulled her in for a kiss.
When they inevitably pulled away for breath, he smiled at her. “As soon as we get back, I’ll call everyone in and explain the situation,” he promised. “And then, we can spend the rest of the night doing whatever you want.”
Marinette smiled back, shoving him into the Zeta Tube. “Then get ready, because I wanna sleep off this damn jet lag and I plan on cuddling you like a koala the whole time. No escape.”
“B-001, Codename BATMAN. Recognized.”
“Can’t wait,” he replied right before he was whisked off. The sound of the love of his life laughing followed him through until he reached the other end of the teleportation.
Ok so this is my first time requesting so please be patient with me. Could you please do a teen!reader where they are the youngest child of the Whitly family, and Malcolm is very protective over them because he doesn't want them to be hurt like he has? And when they meet Martin for the first time, Martin is asking personal questions towards the reader and Malcolm just cranks the over protectiveness to 100. Sorry if that didn't make much sense, but thank you for taking the time to read this :)
Haha, I feel like I should be asking you to be patient with me! Anyways I liked this idea and I hope it turned out okay...
“Y/n, stop messing with your food!” Jessica said for the fourth time.
“This is so boring, why can’t we eat?” Slouching in her seat, Y/n moved her fork in between their fingers.
“We are still waiting on Malcolm.” Ainsley pipped in.
Rolling her eyes, she picked up her fork and started eating.
“Y/n!”
“What? It’s not like he’s going to be on time, he never is. I say we start eating now.”
“She’s got a point.” Ainsley shrugged, taking a bite from the plate herself.
Just then all three heard the door open and slam shut, Malcolm walked in the dinning room, quickly taking a seat next to Y/n. “Sorry, I got caught up with a case.” Malcolm loosen his tie.
“Big surprise.” Y/n mumbled under her breathe, making Ainsley crack a smiled from across the table.
“You’re here now, that’s all that matters.” Jessica smiled at her son. “Let’s eat shall we.”
Everyone started eating, leaving an awkward silence. Nobody seemed to have a topic of conversation.
“So, Y/n. How’s school going?” Malcolm started, not seeming to like the tension in the room.
“Fine.”
“Yeah, Y/n. How is school?” Ainsley dragged out, her voice was teasing.
“Don’t make me come across this table Ainsley, I said it was fine.” Y/n gritted their teeth, already annoyed by what she was trying to do.
Since Y/n never saw Malcolm as much as Ainsley, she knew more about what went on in her daily life. Although, according to Y/n it was more like being nosy then anything else.
This comment had sparked an interest in Malcolm, of course picking up on Y/n defensive behavior. “What’s happening here?” Malcolm asked.
“Nothing.”
“Y/n has a crush.”
Shooting a glare at Ainsley, Y/n tried kicking her knee from across the table. “Stop being nosy.”
“Is this true?”
Y/n turned to Malcolm, instantly recognizing the look on his face. His protective nature was coming out, looking rather annoyed at the lack of response.
“Whatever, even if I did. It’s not yours or Ainsley’s business.” Y/n shrugged, taking another bite of food, hoping someone would change the topic.
“Y/n, you know I could just find out, Dani is really good at-“
“Absolutely not, don’t even try to go there! You keep to your life and I’ll keep to mine.” Y/n got up from her chair, grabbing her plate she walked up to her room.
“Well, that wasn’t so surprising.” Jessica casually stated, taking another sip of her wine.
“Did you know?” Malcolm turned to his mother now.
“Of course I knew Malcolm.” Jessica proceeded to drink her wine. “It probably wasn’t a good idea to say your police friends would get involved though.”
Malcolm sighed. “They don’t tell me anything, I barely get to see them, and when I do it’s always one sided.”
“Malcolm, have you ever thought that maybe you being gone all the time is the reason you don’t get told anything in the first place?” Ainsley pipped in.
Malcolm leaned back, taking a bigger sip of his wine. “I’m not gone that much.”
Just then Malcolms phone started ringing. Gil. “I gotta go.” Getting up from his chair, he proceeded to make his way to the front door. His hand was on the handle when-
“I wanna meet dad.”
Malcolm stopped dead in his tracks. “What?”
“You heard me.”
“What- Why would you wanna meet Dr Whitly? Where is this coming from?”
Y/n shrugged. “You see dad all the time, Ainsley herself did a whole interview with him! But anytime I even try suggesting to mom about seeing him, she freaks out. I wanna meet him.”
Malcolm shook his head. “No, absolutely not, that is a horrible idea. You don’t need to meet him.”
“Look. I get it. You wanna be all protective older brother. But you fail to realize that I’m asking you to meet dad, I could’ve just waited and gone myself. Instead I’m asking you so you can come with me.” Y/n leaned against the wall, messing with the hem of their shirt. “I love you enough to tell you I wanna see him, but when the day comes and I’m aloud to see him myself, I will go alone.
Malcolm sighed, walking over he pulled her in for a hug. “I just don’t want you to get hurt. You got out lucky being so young when everything happened. I would hate to see that crumble.”
“You can’t protect me from him my whole life. I gotta face him at some point. Besides you’ve already done so much, even the whole change the last name.” Y/n teased.
“Alright fine. But you can’t tell mom. She would not only kill me but might lock you in your room forever.” Malcolm said.
“You got yourself a deal Bright!” Y/n took out their hand.
Malcolm smiled. “And a deal yourself, Bright.” Shaking on it, Malcolm left to go meet up with Gil.
A few hours later, Malcolm texted Y/n saying he was outside. When the car pulled up, Malcolm started his rules on things to say and things not to say. Meeting Mr. David was a treat, he was super nice and welcoming. However Malcolm kept going on and on, until they finally got to the front door of the room.
“Malcolm. It’s okay, I get it.” He nodded, but he couldn’t stop his hand from tremoring.
Taking a hold of his hand, Y/n smiled reassuring at Malcolm. “Don’t worry, you’ll be there. You always got my back.”
Taking a breath Malcolm nodded to Mr. David. Giving him the okay to open the door, they both walked in, hearing the loud clank of it shutting behind them.
Martin was looking though a couple of his medical books. He didn’t look up, but he knew they were there.
“Malcolm my boy! You know how I love unexpected visits! I saw the news, quite an interesting turn of events on the case. Please tell me how I can assist.” Martin swivel in his chair. When he turned around he stopped when he realized there were two individuals.
“Why hello there, who’s this?”
Y/n tried not to let that comment get to them. It would only make sense that Martin wouldn’t know who they were. The last time Martin saw them was when he got arrested, and that was years ago.
“This is-“
“I’m Y/n Whitly!” Jumping in before Malcolm could respond.
Martin looked shock, his eyes looking up and down until he settled on Malcolm. “This is little Y/n? My baby?” Martin asked.
Malcolm sighed. “Yes, this is Y/n. Y/n Bright. Not Whitly.”
Y/n rolled their eyes. “Hi, uh, sorry. It’s just- well I’ve never really thought of what I was going to say, I just thought I could make it up as I got here.”
“Oh my sweet child! You have no idea how happy I am to see you!” Martin walked closer to the line.
Malcolm still was holding Y/n hand, which then began to tighten. Instead of moving closer to Malcolm, Y/n walked closer to Martin, standing in front of Malcolm now.
“Really? I mean- it’s been so long, I just thought maybe you forgot about me?” Y/n shrugged.
“Oh, no!” Martin protest. “My sweet child, I never forgot about you! I’ve always kept you in my mind with your brother and sister, it’s just so overwhelming to see you all grown up. I’ve really missed a lot haven’t I?” Before Y/n could say anything he continued.
“I mean, there’s so much to catch up on! How’s school going? Do you have any interest? Oh! Let’s start off easy. What’s your favorite color? Favorite food? How about a boyfriend or girlfriend-“
“Enough!” Malcolm cut in. He pulled Y/n back by her hand to try and put distance between them and Martin. “This is their visit, they can take all the time in the world to catch up.”
“Malcolm-“ Y/n hissed.
“No, your brother is right. I’m sorry.” Martin smiled brightly. “Go ahead, you go first. What would you like to know? Or perhaps tell me?”
Y/n stood there for a moment, knowing there was so much to ask but not enough time for the whole day. They could start with a favorite color, or food, but that was just meaningless things. Instead wanting to ask something a bit more meaningful.
Looking back to Martin who was waiting patiently for something to be said. “Was there ever a moment when you thought you could stop?”
Both Martin and Malcolm taken back by this, but they continued anyway. “Like- did you ever think that you would get caught one day, end up in here, miss out on everything, and never see your family again.”
Martin sighed. “I’ve thought it once or twice, but I never thought I would get caught, or rather... ratted out.” He started to walk around his side of the room, his chains dragging. “I’m so sorry I missed out on your life Y/n, but who’s to say I can’t catch up now!”
“But you wouldn’t have stopped, would you... I mean Malcolm knew what you were doing, and you were going to kill Gil that night anyway.” Y/n stated.
“Maybe, but Y/n you have to realize, it wasn’t my plan to come here, your brother-“
“Did an amazing job.” Y/n cut him off. “My brother did everything that should’ve been your job, and he did it great.”
Martin looked a bit nervous now, fidgeting with his handcuffs. “Y/n, my sweet-“
“I’m not your child.” Y/n stated. “And, biologically speaking you are my father, but Malcolm is my dad, my brother, my best friend. He made sure I was okay... even when I ignore him.” Looking to Malcolm, Y/n smiled  apologetically. “I thought coming here to meet you would help fill this hole of not having a father, maybe see if there was a chance that we could have had something. I see now that I was wrong, and if you would have never got caught, I would most definitely been worse off.”
“I know you are going though a lot of mixed feelings right now, but I assure you, I could be there for you. Give me a call, come by and visit, and you’ll see there is still a chance for us! We can still make this work Y/n. I can still be your father!” Martin encouraged.
“Maybe, but you’ll never live up to what Malcolms already given me.” Turning around towards the door, Y/n tugged Malcolm gently with her. “It was really nice to meet you Dr. Whitly. Maybe one day, we can form some type of relationship. Perhaps I’ll be proud enough to call myself a Whitly again, but for now, I think Bright suits me better.”
Walking towards the door, Mr. David opened it, moving to let them both pass.
“Don’t you worry Y/n! You’ll be proud to call me dad one day! I promise! Can’t wait until next time! Call me anytime! I’m always here for you!” Martin shouted from behind. Y/n didn’t say anything until they heard the metal door close.
Taking a breathe, Y/n leaned against the hallway wall. Their hands on the knees, thinking over what just happened. Malcolm squatted down in front of Y/n, taking their hands in his, he started to move circles with his thumbs.
“Are you okay?” Malcolm asked.
Nodding, Y/n looked up to him smiling. “Thanks for letting me come. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on much.”
Even though it was supposed to be sarcastic, there was still truth to what Y/n said. Malcolm leaned forward, kissing the top of their head. He pulled back and stood up straight, taking their hand in his. “Come on, let’s get home.”
Walking toward the exit Malcolm wrapped his arm around Y/n shoulder. “Did you really mean what you said? About me being like your dad? Also me doing amazing? Because sometimes I feel like I’m failing.”
“I know I give you a hard time, but I’m really glad to have you as my brother. I wouldn’t trade you for anything. You made sure I was always okay, sometimes too much, but I knew the love was always there. Thank you Bright.” Y/n smirked.
Smiling, Malcolm ruffled their hair. “Anytime Bright.”
Chapter 20
Steve was dozing when one of the babies started to cry.  He was up and out of bed as the second one’s cries joined the first and you and Bucky stirred and sat up.  He’d slept lightly - his mind full of thoughts about Geo, Gal, and his daughter.  He had juggled all the options as he’d seen them.  Lying and saying Gal was his.  Trying to adopt him legally.  Finding his family and returning them.  He considered the best-case scenarios and the worst-case ones.  That with the lingering worry about keeping you and Geo safe, and expunging all records of you from any databases they might have left, did not lend itself to a good night’s sleep.  Steve picked up the little boy first, he was crying louder and his face was screwed up and changing color.  “Hey little one,” he soothed, bouncing him a little.  “I bet you don’t know what’s what.”
Bucky moved beside him and picked up his daughter.  “Guess we change them and try to feed them?”
“Gal might need a bottle,” you said as Steve took the infant to the changing table.  “I don’t know if I should breastfeed him or not… I mean people do that right?  Wet nurses used to be a thing.  But then… my milk hasn’t come in yet, and he’d already be having milk, and I’m barely making colostrum.”
“Don’t worry, sweetheart,” Steve assured you.  “I’ll get one of the staff to bring in a bottle.  FRIDAY?”
“It’s on its way,” the AI confirmed.
Bucky finished changing the girl and brought her over to you.  You adjusted the back of the bed so that you could lean on it while sitting up and put a pillow in your lap before taking her from Bucky.  Geo grumbled and tried to readjust.  The babies had well and truly woken him, but he seemed to be trying to ignore that the world existed anywhere else except tucked into your side, safe-and-sound.
As you attempted to get the baby to latch a nurse came in with a bottle.  “Here you are, Captain Rogers,” she said, handing it over.   She turned her attention to you and began to fuss around you.  “Do you need help?”
“Yes, please,” you agreed.  “It’s been a while.”
The nurse helped you to get the infant latched as Steve sat down and began to feed Gal his bottle.  When she left again Steve looked over to you.
“We have some things we need to arrange,” he said.
You looked over at him, the alarm you were feeling was written all over your face.  “She asked me to take care of him.”
“I know, sweetheart,” Steve said.  “I know, and we will.  But I’ve been thinking about it, and as much as lying and saying you had twins sounds like a quick fix, it’s something that is easily disproved, and it takes his history away from him.  You were worried about taking John’s connection away from Geo.  Shouldn’t we let Gal grow up knowing as much about his background as he can know his parents too?  His mom died trying to protect you all.  She should be honored and remembered too.”
You frowned and looked over at the little boy in Steve’s arms.  “What if they take him from us?”
Steve looked down at the baby in his arms and frowned slightly.  The worst-case scenario in his head was that they took him and ended up accidentally giving him straight to HYDRA.  He would do what he needed to, to prevent that from happening, but he wanted to trust the system to trust him given he had given so much of himself to protect it.  “Sweetheart,” he said gently.  “If you and Bucky decide that we should lie and say he’s biologically ours - that you gave birth to twins - I won’t fight it.  I’ll do whatever I can to protect that secret.  But if this little boy has family, they have a right to know about him, and maybe - maybe, keeping him safe means letting him be raised by them.”
You frowned and caressed your daughter's cheek, as you seemed to process the words.  You looked over to Bucky who was sitting quietly watching you both.  “What do you think, Buck?”
“I think…” he said slowly.  “I think Steve makes some good points.  There’s definitely a risk, but if we do lie and they find out, we could lose all the kids.”
“Alright,” you agreed and shifted the baby to the other breast.  “We need to make sure he’s safe, no matter what.”
“We will.  If the worst-case happens, and the powers that be decide we aren’t a suitable home, we’ll make sure the family that takes him is vetted by Wanda, and no record of where he came from follows him to where he goes.”
You frowned and nodded.  “Okay.  Well, how do we do this?”
“We sometimes work with a lawyer,” Steve said.  “He’s a defense attorney but he understands the position we’re in and is pretty good at arguing it in court.  He might be able to help with this a little or at least recommend someone who can.  In the meantime, I’ve had FRIDAY looking into this little guy’s family.”  He sits Gal up and puts his empty bottle to the side and while he supports his head, he gently rubbed the infant’s back until he burped.  “At least then we know where we stand.”
“Right,” you said, putting your breast away.  Bucky got up and took the baby from your arms and you began cuddling Geo.  “Okay.  I guess we better do that.”
“FRIDAY?”  Steve said, looking up.  “Have you found anything?”
“I am still checking all possible leads,” she said.  “But from my searching of the files we obtained from HYDRA, participants were selected in the initial trial based on a lack of family ties.  From what I gather the child’s biological father was raised in foster care and changed homes at least a dozen times.”
You furrowed your brow and Steve looked over at you.  “Is that true?  Is that why you never spoke about your family?”
“I didn’t know about the others.  I know John was an only child whose parents died in a car accident when he was seventeen.   And I was raised by my grandparents.  My grandpa died when I was twelve, and my grandma when I was nineteen.  I don’t know who my father even is, and my mother is around, but I don’t speak to her,” you explained.  “I guess the difference was enough to not draw the link.”
“It makes sense,” Bucky said.  “They were doing some pretty intense human trials.  If something went wrong, then they good make you disappear and no one would be there to ask questions.”
“If Gal has no family, that might make it easier,” Steve said.  “We’ll keep looking into things, but we’ll do this the right way.  We need to lodge a birth certificate for him, which isn’t going to be easy either.”
The three of you fell silent for a little while.  It was a weighty silence, full of anxiety and unspoken worries.  This was Steve’s family now and as much as he wanted to protect them, he was beginning to fear he wouldn’t be able to.
“There’s something else we need to decide,” Bucky said, cutting through the heavy silence.
You and Steve both looked over at him curiously and Bucky smiled down at the little girl in his arms.  “We still haven’t picked her name.”
“We were tossing up Rebecca or Sarah,” you said.  “Does she look like one more than the other?”
Steve moved and sat on the edge of the bed beside you and Geo.  He rubbed the boy's back gently.  “What do you think, Geo?  What does she look more like to you?”
Geo poked his head out from your side for the first time and looked over at Bucky with the baby.  He furrowed his brow like he was really considering it.  “Ember.”
“Ember?”  Steve asked.
“We didn’t even consider that one,” you added.
Geo’s lip began to quiver and he hid back in your side.  The stress of everything obviously making it too hard for him to be questioned.
“Hey, it’s okay,” Steve said.  “We didn’t say no, we’re just thinking about it.”
“It might be good for her to have her own name, without the burden of living up to anyone,” Bucky said.
“I kinda like how it’s related to fire,” you said.  “Geo is earth, Ember is fire.”
Steve smiled and rubbed Geo’s side.  “That is a nice theme.  Gal doesn’t really fit it though.”
“What does Gal mean?”  Bucky asked.
“Gal is a Hebrew name meaning ‘wave’,” FRIDAY responded.  “As in waves in the ocean.”
The three of you looked at each other with your jaws dropped open.  “That feels like fate,” you said.
As much as Steve resisted the idea of fate, there were too many things that had happened to him that let him ignore it.  The fact that he and the boy he had grown up loving were both sitting here in a relationship when they should both dead and buried was one huge example of it.  He wasn’t going to ignore it now.
“I think you’re right, Geo,” Steve said.  “I think she’s an Ember too.”
Geo sat up and smiled looking over at his sister.
“Ember sounds a little better with Rebecca than Sarah,” you added.  “Is that okay with both of you?”
Bucky’s face lit up and that alone sold Steve on the name.  “Sounds perfect,” he said.  “Ember Rebecca Barnes-Rogers.”
You leaned over and kissed him gently, your lips softly grazing over his.  He vowed in that moment, that no one would ever threaten his family again.  He’d personally make sure of it.
Masterlist // Previous chapter // Next chapter
I think I should thank the universe that my daughter is here, because otherwise I would’ve murdered Wesley right now, after throwing my hot chocolate in his face. After seven plus years of not seeing him and resisting the urge of not going online to check what he is up to nowadays, looking at him in real life sure brings back a whole lot of emotions. He is basically the same, only he lost a bit of weight, especially around his face.
I don’t think he looks necessarily good and maybe it’s his conscious eating him alive inside.
Just as he deserves. Motherfucker.
I see him looking at my daughter and Vanessa has no problem staring back at him. She has a frown between her brows and I know she is thinking about all the questions she can ask the man that left her before she was even born. The man that didn’t want her, before he even got to know her.
I stand up from the table and grab his arm, dragging him away from the table. Dragging him away from my family. ‘What the hell do you think you’re doing?’
‘She looks an awful lot like you,’ he notes. ‘What’s her name?’
‘What the fuck is that suppose to mean?’ I ask him. He wants to look over his shoulder again, right at my daughter but my mom reflexes and mom voice are no joke. ‘Wesley, don’t you dare look at her. Look at me.’
He does what I ask him to do. ‘Who is that man?’
It’s beyond me where Wesley has got the nerves to answer my questions with his own questions, but after having Vanessa, I’m able to play along just fine. ‘What are you doing here?’ I ask him. ‘Why do you all of the sudden care about her? You certainly didn’t give a shit when I was pregnant with her.’
‘I’m a changed man, Livi.’
That nickname brings me back to a time where I was so in love with him. A time where I knew I would marry this man, but after spending a few months with Henry, I realized that it was a blessing that he broke up with me. He treated me okay, but never in the way Henry does.
‘It’s Olivia for you,’ I tell him, ‘and you honestly want me to believe that you are a changed man?’ I can’t help but laugh out of pity. ‘Well, you are quite something, Wesley, I have to give you that.’
‘I’m serious,’ he says and he actually looks like he means it. He gestures to his right, my left and when I follow where he is pointing towards, I see a woman sitting, who stares at me with daggers. She places her hand protectively on her pregnant belly and right next to her, I see a young boy sitting, who actually looks pretty cute. ‘That’s Ria,’ he says, ‘and our son Kevin.’
Our son Kevin? I don’t see Wesley for the type of saint that would adopt someone else’s kid (I mean, he is no Henry and no matter what kind of changed man he is, he’ll never reach that level of maturity), so I clear my throat, before I ask: ‘How old is Kevin?’
‘He is six.’
Wesley could’ve stabbed me in my stomach and that wouldn’t have hurt or shocked me, as I am now. ‘He is six?’ I ask him, trying so hard not to raise my voice. ‘You knocked someone up right after you left me?’
Wesley doesn’t say a word.
‘Oh my God,’ I say in utter disbelieve, running my fingers through my hair. ‘You are un-fucking-believable. You left me, let me figure this whole parenting thing out all on my own, while you start a family? Wesley, what the fuck is wrong with you? I can’t believe this. You leave me, my whole family leaves me, because I got pregnant. Have you any idea in what kind of fucking situation you put me through?’
‘I want to get to know her.’
It’s admirable that Wesley has some guts, I have to give him that. ‘No,’ I chuckle. ‘You fucking can’t. You walked out of both of our lives when I gave you the chance to be a dad. You can’t just barge in, because you saw us sitting there. You and your precious new family stay out of our lives and I’ll gladly stay out of yours.’
I want to walk past him, right back to my table, but he grabs my arm. ‘Wait,’ he says and for some weird reason I do wait. ‘Here is my number.’ He hands me a card and I can’t help but stare at this.
‘Since when are you the type of person that has a card?’ I ask, grabbing it out of his hand. ‘Oh look at that. You somehow finished college and you’re a real estate agent now. I’ll be damned.’ I almost want to rip the card apart, but I know that my daughter is looking at me, so I can’t act stupid now.
‘Please, if you change your mind, let me know. I want to make up for the years I wasn’t there for you two.’
I don’t even look at him, I can’t even look at him, so I walk back to my table. ‘We’re leaving,’ I say to Vanessa and Henry. Vanessa wants to look at Wesley, but I block her view. ‘Don’t look at him,’ I tell her and nearly drag her with me outside. Vanessa doesn’t say anything, nor does Henry.
I help her in her carseat and the first five minutes of our drive go by in complete silence. ‘Mommy,’ Vanessa finally says and I admire her for having the balls to open her mouth. ‘Was that my real dad?’
‘He is your biological dad, yes.’
‘What does that mean?’
‘When two people make a baby, you have a bit of both in you. So, Henry and all his brothers have a bit of both Marianne and Colin in them.’
Vanessa mhms. ‘Why were you mad at him?’
‘Because he wants to be part of your life.’
‘Oh.’
It’s quiet for a few seconds, before I finally snap again. ‘That idiot honestly thought that he could just barge right back into my life, after everything he didn’t do for me?’ I ask myself out loud. ‘That bastard had the guts, the guts, to hand me over his card, so I could call him if we change our minds about it. Did you know he has a new lady, who is pregnant and already gave birth to a kid of him? That kid is six. Six! While I’m struggling with my job, with my new baby all by myself, he is out there, impregnating this other woman…’
‘Mommy, what is impregnating?’
‘… having kids with her and being a loyal loving family man. What the hell is wrong with him? Now I finally,  finally have the life that I wanted for both myself and Vanessa and he has the nerves to just walk into my life again? Thinking he can do that? Why are men such big fat pigs? Who has the audacity to look around in a restaurant, see his ex girlfriend with her daughter and obviously her new boyfriend and just walk up to them to ask: ‘Is this her?’. Like he knows Vanessa. Like he was there for her when she was just born!’
I let out a frustrated breath, as I cross my arms and stare out of the window. Henry gently places his hand on my thigh and lean my head back against the head rest of the seat.
‘Mommy, his new kid,’ Vanessa says, ‘does he have a part of that man in him?’
‘Yes, he does, so technically he is your half brother and the child inside the belly of the other woman is your half sister or another half brother.’ I look at Henry and say softly: ‘If that woman didn’t stray of course.’
Henry doesn’t say anything and the rest of the car ride continues in silence. This is crazy, I think to myself. That Wesley left my subconscious a long time ago and now he is all my entire family can think about.
When we’re back inside our house, I keep pacing around the living room, while Henry and Vanessa plop on the couch, carefully watching my moves.
‘Mom, can I meet him?’
I nearly collapse. ‘Excuse me, what?’ I ask, in a lot harsher tone than I usually talk to her, even when I’m angry with her. ‘Why on earth would you want to meet him?’
‘Olivia,’ Henry says, shaking his head, telling me non verbally that I need to tone it down a notch.
‘Because… I want to get to know him.’
I sigh deeply. ‘Sweetheart, he left you, before you were born. I think that is all you need to know about him. Besides, you have a great dad now.’
She nods. ‘I know, but I want to ask him something.’
‘What do you wanna ask him?’
‘Why he left.’
Oh my God, I’m going to cry and never stop. She wants to ask him that question, that is too pure and too sweet and it makes me want to kill Wesley even more. She looks so vulnerable.
‘Oh,’ I say. Who am I to stop her from doing this? Whether I like it or not, that man, that lousy piece of shit, is still her biological father. If she wants to see him, to get to know him, why should I stop her? Simply because I have personal vendetta against him, hate his guts and wouldn’t cry a single moment if he accidentally got under a bus? ‘On one condition,’ I tell her. ‘I am there every single second.’
Vanessa nods. ‘I want Henry there too.’ She looks up at him and says: ‘But only if you want to, of course.’
My daughter is so considerate and I love her for that. God, I did such a good job with raising her by myself. Where is the standing ovation I deserve?
‘I want to,’ Henry says. ‘For you I’d do anything. Maybe you should hug your mom. She looks like she needs it.’
Vanessa jumps off the couch and walks up to me. ‘I love you, mommy,’ she says.
‘Oh, sweetheart, I love you too. I’m sorry I was so hard on you.’
She shakes her head. ‘I get it, you are really angry. You really don’t like what he did, because you never got this mad at me.’
I chuckle. ‘No, that’s true. I’ll send him a text.’
≫≫≪≪
So tomorrow we are going to meet up with Wesley at a cafe. I chose a public place, because otherwise I’m tempted to kill him if we are somewhere more private. After I called Belle and vented for a good half an hour before I let her speak, she told me I was doing the right and mature thing. She also told me that after we met up, we should hang out, so we can talk about this, because it would probably be better for my blood pressure to immediately talk about the meeting.
And all of the sudden I’m in desperate need for some motherly advice, but counting on my own mother is out of the window. So with Vanessa and Henry we go to the Cavill residence and thankfully Charlie is there, so he and Colin can take Vanessa with them, to play some stupid games, walk around the house, while I can have a heart to heart talk with Marianne, Henry close by.
I haven’t spoken to him really since Vanessa asked me to see her biological father. The only thing he did was giving me tight hugs so I would stop pacing, give me a kiss every now and then and simply whisper that I was doing the right thing.
Sitting at the kitchen table, Henry right next to me and Marianne across from me, is weirdly calming. ‘You are doing the right thing,’ Marianne also says. ‘So, your friend Belle and Henry are right.’
I place my elbows on the hard surface, before I bury my face in my hands. ‘It was my grand idea to have some hot chocolate afterwards,’ I mumble. ‘Hadn’t I done that, we wouldn’t have run into him.’
‘Maybe we were suppose to run into him,’ Henry says, placing his arm around my shoulders. ‘Sweetheart, whether you like it or not, he is Vanessa’s real dad. She deserves to get to know him.’
‘But what if she likes him more?’ I ask and I realize that was my fear all along. ‘I tried so hard for her and what if she meets him and thinks: oh, that man, I like him a lot more than I like my mom and the entire family she gave me.’
‘No, no, no,’ Henry says, ‘you know that is not going to happen. Because of your honesty to her all these previous years, she is well aware of what he did to both you and her. It’s always her biggest fear that I’m leaving after she did something that she shouldn’t do. I think she just wants some answers, so she can think about it.’
‘You raised a smart and intelligent girl, Olivia,’ Marianne says. ‘So I have an idea. Tomorrow the three of you go straight to us, you bring your friend Belle along too and we can have a nice long talk, to process this. It’s scary, my dear, I know that, but it’s nothing you can’t handle. You are a whole lot tougher than you think you are.’
I let out a sigh. ‘Yeah, you are right.’
Marianne asks me if I want some more tea and I think I want to. While she walks off to the kitchen, Henry presses a kiss on my temple. ‘How are you, love?’ he asks.
‘When we’re home, I think I’m going to take a long hot shower. You mind?’
‘Of course not,’ he says. ‘Vanessa and I can start on dinner, how about that?’ Henry has a smile on his face when he sees me nod. ‘I am proud of you.’ He leans in and gives me a long kiss. ‘I’m so happy that I can get to call you my girlfriend.’
‘You’re not scared?’
He nods. ‘I am, very much so, but I also have a lot of faith in your daughter.’
‘Our daughter,’ I correct him.
Henry blushes a bit and I pull him into a hug. I bury my face in his neck and let out a content sigh, for the first time in a few hours. ‘I love you,’ he whispers.
‘I love you too, Henry,’ I say. ‘And I trust our daughter too. Just promise me that if I have to go to the clinic, or to the bathroom, you keep an eye on them. Don’t leave him with her for a single second, okay?’
‘I was going to ask you the same thing too,’ he chuckles. ‘We’ll be alright, darling. I guarantee.’
≫≫≪≪
I’m surprised Wesley is early. He was always late when we dated. Maybe he did change, a little bit. Before we walk into the cafe, I stop Vanessa in her tracks and I say: ‘You can ask him anything you want. If there is something he says that you don’t like, you can tell him that. If you want to leave, you can just ask me or Henry and we’ll leave right away. Remember, you don’t owe him anything.’
Vanessa nods. ‘I know, mommy, you told five times already this morning.’
‘Don’t be a smart ass now,’ I say to her.
Henry places his heavy hands on her shoulders and says: ‘You have to cut your mom some slack, she doesn’t mean it like that. She is just still a bit mad.’
Vanessa chuckles. ‘I know. Mommy, it will all be fine. You are here, daddy is here.’
‘I’m sorry, you’re right.’ I give her a big kiss and say: ‘You are a good kid.’
The three of us walk into the cafe and Wesley stands up from his spot. Vanessa walks over to him and holds out her hand. ‘Hello,’ she says, ‘my name is Vanessa.’
Wesley takes her hand in his, while he keeps standing up. I don’t want to compare (but I’m still gonna), but all the insanely tall Cavills crouch down when they talk to her. ‘Hi Vanessa, I’m Wesley.’
‘I know who you are, my mommy told me all about you.’
You go, girl. I’m so proud of her already and I can’t believe that my daughter is handling this situation a whole lot better than I am.
Wesley nods and looks at Henry. ‘Aren’t you the actor?’ he asks. ‘Henry Cavill?’
‘I certainly am,’ Henry says, shaking my ex boyfriends hand.
We all sit down, order something to drink. While I am in the desperate mood for some vodka, I decide to go with a cappuccino, just to be safe. I ordered Henry not to break the silence, because Wesley wanted to meet Vanessa so badly, so he should keep up the conversation.
Vanessa takes a sip of her apple juice and looks at Wesley. ‘Can I ask you a question?’
I think Wesley is grateful that she decided to break the silence, because he nods. ‘Of course.’
‘Why did you leave my mommy?’
‘Because I was scared,’ he says. ‘I thought I wasn’t ready to be a dad yet.’
There is so much I want to say to him. You think I was ready to become a mother? You think I wasn’t scared?
Vanessa sighs and I see her bottom lip tremble. God, this is too much for me to handle and I want to jump up, hoist her up in my arms and while I walk out of this cafe, punch Wesley right in the nose. ‘Why didn’t you want to love me?’
I look at Henry, who places a comforting hand on my leg. It might be uncomfortable now, but I know that this will be good for Vanessa and for me for that matter.
Wesley doesn’t know what to say.
‘Am I that unloveable?’ she continues to ask.
Now I can’t keep my mouth shut, because now she is doubting herself and as a mother I can’t let that happen. ‘No,’ I say to her. ‘You are not unloveable, don’t you ever think like that again.’
Vanessa frowns. ‘But he didn’t love me.’
‘He didn’t even want to love you. He didn’t even try,’ I say, not caring he is there and can totally hear this. ‘Remember sweetheart, he walked out on you and me, not the other way around.’
‘I was scared,’ Wesley tells me.
‘Don’t you think I was?’ I ask him, absolutely dumbfounded. I turn to Vanessa again and ask her: ‘Remember what I always tell you? About fear?’
She nods. ‘That you are allowed to be scared, but that it should never stop you in life.’
‘That’s right. But sweetheart, you were talking to Wesley, I’m sorry I interrupted.’
Vanessa shakes her head. ‘That’s okay, mommy. You can always interrupt me.’
Suck that up, Wesley, I think to myself. My daughter is fucking polite and I did that all by myself.
‘You know,’ Vanessa continues, ‘I always wondered why I didn’t have a dad. Kids in my class have one and I wanted one too.’
‘I understand,’ Wesley says, though he grows more uncomfortable with the second. I bet he underestimated my daughter and her communication skills and now he should deal with the consequences of that easy thinking of his.
‘And then my mommy met Henry,’ she says with a beaming smile. ‘He is a real daddy, you know. He bought me my first bike, my first Christmas tree and he took my out on a Valentines date two days ago.’
Yes, honey, please rub it in.
Wesley takes a sip of his coffee and he actually is trying to leave, I can totally see it in his body language. ‘Where do you think you’re going?’ Henry asks, picking up on those signs as well. ‘You sit down now. Vanessa is talking to you and you better listen to it.’
This isn’t the moment to think about hot and passionate sex with Henry, but tomorrow I’m off work a little bit earlier than usual and you bet your ass I’m going to spoil him in a whole lot of nasty ways before we have to pick Vanessa up.
‘Please, Vanessa, continue,’ Henry says to her with a loving smile.
Vanessa nods. ‘He is going to adopt me soon,’ she continues, eyes shining bright with excitement. ‘And then we are officially a family.’
‘Right.’
‘My mommy cried a lot because of you. She didn’t know I saw her, but usually at night she would cry on the couch. I heard her talking to my auntie Belle about you and that I don’t have a daddy. That’s your fault.’
Henry and I exchange glances and he seems to be impressed by our daughter.
‘Vanessa,’ Wesley says, ‘I don’t want to have this conversation with you.’
She seems a bit shocked. ‘Why not?’ she asks.
‘Yeah, Wesley, why not?’ I ask him, crossing my arms in front of my chest. ‘Tell her why not.’
‘This is a grown up conversation.’
‘No, it’s not,’ I retort. ‘It’s about her, so she should have a conversation with you and if you are intimidated by a seven year old, then you are really even less of a man than I figured you were.’
Henry clears his throat. ‘You keep your ass on that chair and if you don’t do that, I have no problems at all forcing you onto that seat. You listen to Vanessa and you have a conversation with her. Right here and right now.’
Wesley is getting more and more frustrated right now, but I’m not cutting him slack. No, he wanted this. He ruined my perfect day by forcing himself basically into our lives.
‘So, you have a son and almost a new baby, right?’ Vanessa asks.
‘Mhm.’
‘Do you love them?’
‘I do,’ Wesley says.
She thinks about her next move long and hard. ‘Cool.’ Vanessa simply stares at him and even tilts her head. ‘I don’t like you.’
My mouth falls open and I can’t help but feel so proud of her.
‘Excuse me, what?’ Wesley asks.
‘I don’t like you,’ she repeats, rolling her eyes and I can almost hear her thinking: Are you deaf? ‘You made me sad, because you walked out before I was born. You made my mommy sad and very angry yesterday and I don’t like it when that happens. I am happy that I saw you, because now I know that you… Mommy, can I say this?’
‘Go for it.’
‘Now I know that you really are an idiot.’ She looks at Henry. ‘Right, daddy?’
Henry nods. ‘You’re totally right, sunshine.’
‘You allow this?’ Wesley asks me. ‘You allow this kind of talk?’
‘I didn’t know you had the right to give an opinion about my parenting skills,’ I say to him.
‘I wanted a second chance, but with what you are telling her about me…’
‘Is the truth, buddy,’ Henry says. ‘What did you think would happen? That they waited seven years for you to come back? Of course not. You left them and Olivia made the brave choice of raising her daughter with the upmost honesty and respect, something that you obviously lack.’
‘And you think you can just barge into their lives and be the savior?’ Wesley retorts.
‘Excuse me?’ Henry asks. ‘I’ve been acting more like a dad to Vanessa in one day than you have been your entire life. I think you should be grateful that I swooped in and give her the dad she deserves to have.’
‘Wesley,’ Vanessa says and he looks at her. ‘I hope you love your new kids, because they deserve a dad.’
That’s more maturity than I could ever have. Did I raise this girl?
‘I have to go,’ Wesley says.
‘No, you’re not. I didn’t hear Vanessa was finished,’ Henry says, clearly getting more and more frustrated with Wesley. ‘Sunshine, you finished?’
‘Almost.’
‘Listen to the young lady,’ Henry says, his eyes not leaving Wesley once.
Vanessa clears her throat and says: ‘I don’t want to see you ever again.’
‘Well, make two of that, sweetheart,’ I say.
‘Three,’ Henry mumbles.
‘Now you can go. I finished my apple juice.’
Wesley looks at me, jaw clenched and ready to murder me. Honestly, I don’t even blame him. If I were a coward and in his shoes, I’d kill me too.
‘You know, sweetheart, we’ll go instead,’ I say to her. I get up from the chair and say to Wesley: ‘I bet you wished you didn’t walk up to us now, didn’t you?’
I grab Vanessa’s hand and with Henry we walk outside of the cafe. The second we are outside, I lift her up in my arms. ‘I am so proud of you, baby.’ I press tons of kisses on her faces, causing her to squeal. ‘You are the biggest bad ass I’ve ever met in my entire life!’
Vanessa hugs me tightly. ‘I’m happy he left you, mommy.’
‘That was the biggest blessing ever.’
Henry gives Vanessa a kiss on her cheek and says: ‘I’m so proud of you, sunshine. He is indeed a big idiot.’
The door of the cafe opens. ‘What the fuck was that?’ Wesley fumes.
‘Language,’ I tell him sternly, like it’s going to work. The word ‘fuck’ slipped my lips multiple times and thankfully Vanessa understands she can never repeat that word.
For now, at least. When she is a teenager, I sure hope she starts to use it then.
‘You totally set this kid up,’ he continues. ‘Talking bad about me behind my back.’
‘Well, I would’ve talked bad about you right in your face, but you walked out of my life, remember?’
I feel like Wesley is about to attack me, but Henry steps in between us. ‘I would suggest you leave. Vanessa told you she doesn’t want to see you anymore and I think you should respect that. We have your number and will call you if she changes her mind.’
‘And you,’ he spits, ‘you honestly think you can waltz into their lives?’
‘I do, actually and I did waltz into their lives. Turned out to be amazing. Honestly, Wesley, you don’t know what you’re missing. Vanessa is such a bright and intelligent and well spoken girl and Olivia is fascinating on her own and an amazing mother.’
Wesley doesn’t have any control over himself anymore, because he launches forward, planning on hitting Henry, who doesn’t seem impressed one single second. Henry grabs my lousy ex boyfriend by his collar and pushes him against the wall. ‘What was that?’ he asks unbothered.
God, he is sexy and this is totally doing things to my panties right now.
‘Let go of me.’
‘Only if you promise us you stay out of our lives and we never see you again, unless we had some sort of aneurism and weirdly enough want to see you.’
‘Fuck you.’
‘Language,’ Vanessa and I yell at the same time.
Henry chuckles. ‘It’s very simple. Just say you promise and I’ll let you go.’
Wesley clenches his jaw. ‘I promise.’
‘Easy, wasn’t it?’ I could’ve known that Henry wasn’t going to just let him go. He throws Wesley to the ground and says: ‘You big piece of shit.’
‘Mister Cavill,’ I say with a smile when he walks up to us again. ‘That was quite something.’
He gives me a long kiss and despite the desperation I can feel, he is holding himself in not to slip his tongue inside my mouth. ‘I love you, darling,’ he mumbles against my mouth. ‘And I sure hope that we never see this idiot ever again.’
‘I think you took care of that.’ I look at Wesley, who pushes himself up and walks away, without looking over his shoulder once.
‘You are truly Superman, daddy,’ Vanessa says with a smile. ‘We are really tough, aren’t we?’
‘We are, sunshine.’ He presses a kiss on her cheek. ‘We promised grandma Marianne we would go to her after meeting Wesley. How about we bring something sweet to her place?’
‘Like what?’ Vanessa asks.
‘I was thinking some cake, you agree?’
‘Yes, I agree!’
The Cavill and Tran family groupchat
Piers: I already told you guys, but I am proud that you told that idiot off and please tell me what Vanessa wants. I want to buy her a present for being such a total bad ass.
Charlie: I swear, if I ever run into him, I’m going to throw him accidentally in front of the bus. What a fucking idiot.
Mom: Charlie!
Charlie: What? You said the exact same thing!
Mom: But with you, I never know if you mean it. I don’t want any of my kids in jail, even if I agree with your actions.
Dad: I’ll do it then. I’m old anyways. I have nothing to lose.
Mom: Colin!
Niki: Yeah, you go dad. You go throw that fucking moron in front of the bus.
Henry: I support you, dad.
Olivia: Not to be that kind of person, but I’d rather you spend time with Vanessa than in jail. Please leave the idiot alone.
Mom: Finally some common sense in this group chat. I’m glad we added you, Olivia, because it can be hard being a woman alone with these guys.
Dad: So I can’t throw him in front of the bus?
Olivia: No, I’m sorry. I can tell you this though: resisting the urge to kill him, will get easier over time.
Henry: I hope you are right, love.
Simon: Not to be that guy, but Olivia, can you give me Belle’s number?
Dad Snipe AU (because I can)
Okay, listen. Just...just give me a second to explain myself, okay? Great, thanks.
So I love parental All Might stories, and stories where Aizawa becomes a dadzawa for his problem child (which leads to Present Mic also becoming a paternal figure for Izuku, which is a blessed idea), and all of those. But you know what I love even more?
If all of that happens, but Izuku’s dad is actually Snipe. Yes, Snipe.
Let me explain the story in my head, because it’s a doozy.
-So, to start, let me explain how I got the idea. It’s simple, really- canon hasn’t given me a reason not to get the idea. I mean, we’ve yet to find out Snipe’s real name, so it’s fair game to call him Hisashi Midoriya until Horikoshi himself rips this idea out of my cold, hopefully not dead hands.
-We also never see his face, and the dreadlocks could either 1. Be a wig or 2. Just be his hair, but the blue-ish shade is what caused the darker coloration for Izuku’s hair. Who knows anymore, the world these heroes live in is a really weird one.
-Now, Snipe may not breathe fire, but shhh. Maybe Inko was lying to the doctor or something, because if she said, “My husband can control the trajectory of any and all of the bullets he shoots”, well, that could’ve given away the identity of her husband! Maybe the Midoriya family doesn’t want to broadcast who Hisashi is.
-Also, having a father with such a Quirk could explain why Izuku is Quirkless (or, in this case, potentially ‘Quirkless’). It’s not like Inko would just let little Izuku play with a gun to see if he could shoot as well as his dad, or anything! So boom, the little joint test is enough, brush it aside, Dad!Snipe explanation over.
Got it? Great! Now, onto the bullshit story idea I came up with, or as I like to call it:
How Snipe Accidentally Ghosted his Family for a Decade, because He is Too Goddamn Dumb Sometimes.
Buckle up folks, and hold your horses a little tighter, because we’re going for a ride.
-So Snipe goes to Texas when Izuku is just a small boy, just barely a toddler. He’s really serious about his whole cowboy aesthetic, and pulls an All Might by working abroad for what he plans to be a few years, but might become five or six if he finds a good agency to work with in the meanwhile.
-Lo and behold, he does!! Nice, nice, Snipe relays the message to his dear wife Inko, lets her know that he’ll be gone for a while- but it’s okay, he plans to call her every chance he gets, make sure she’s doing well with their little boy, and life will be good.
-Things, uh...don’t go as planned.
-Snipe blames it all on a snake. A goddamn snake that decided to hide in his goddamn boot. There was a snake in his boot, what was he expected to do?
Probably not throwing his phone at the thing, breaking it, but uh...Snipe panicked. A lot.
-No problem, right? He’s a Pro Hero, he makes plenty of money, he can just get a new phone, plug in his old number, and all of that stuff. Easy as can be.
-Haha...no.
-Because Snipe is a fool. A fool who can’t remember any of his passwords for his phone, or the answers to any backup questions.
-He’s a great hero, he’s excellent at marksmanship...but the man just can’t remember these things to save his life.
-He can’t even remember his wife’s phone number to call her about it (and beg for the passwords because he just can not manage to recall them)
-Snipe is just glad that Inko is the one who set up his bank accounts so he’d automatically send money to their shared account, or else he’d feel awful.
-Figuring that the best thing to do in this situation is to just keep on truckin’ along, Snipe continues working at the Texas agency until it’s time for him to head back home.
But the fun doesn’t stop here, because…
-By the time Snipe yeehaws his way back to Japan, that man realizes that he can’t even recall what his address was.
-He ends up working at Yuuei, because he was aimlessly wandering around, trying to find Musutafu.
-By the time Nedzu finds him, he’s so embarrassed that he just...can’t bring himself to admit that he forgot literally everything he needed to get back to his house.
-The conversation for the job starts a little like this…
Nedzu: Why were you wandering around Yuuei for over forty minutes?
Snipe, unwilling to admit that he couldn’t remember if he had to go east or west to reach his house: I saw a little doggie. Very cute.
Nedzu: That was probably me, but I digress.
(For the record, Snipe had to go south to start his route home…)
-Some good news: After working at Yuuei for a few years, he finally sees his boy again!!
-Some bad news: it's the USJ attack
-Snipe bursts into the USJ, sees that green haired silhouette and just knows it is his boy, even if it’s been somewhere around a decade since he saw his little sprout and his boy is now stronger and taller.
Snipe, seeing Shigaraki about to hit his child: Villain, you just yeed your last haw
Snipe: shoots Shigaraki in the hand.
-After USJ, we have more fun, with some lovely dialogue I came up with like:
Snipe, sitting with Aizawa: So, hypothetically of course, if I was to say something like, I don’t know… ‘You’re in charge of my long lost child, who I couldn’t get in contact with ‘cause I couldn’t remember mah wife’s phone number’...how would you recommend starting the conversation with him?
Aizawa, mummified, tired, and already realizing that this child is the problem childTM: I need a drink.
Snipe, a fool: Are...are ya sure I should start off with that?
-Despite this totally hypothetical conversation, it isn’t until finals that Snipe brings it up.
-Nedzu pits Snipe against Izuku and Todoroki, and it’s beautiful.
-Snipe pulls an ‘I am your father’ moment like in Star Wars, both Izuku and Todoroki promptly flip their shit.
Snipe: Izuku, I am your father.
Izuku: I thought you were dead!
Todoroki: I thought you were All Might’s child!
-Needless to say, the fight ends quickly, because Izuku goes a little feral.
Izuku, pinning Snipe to the ground: What excuse do you have for ghosting mom for years, huh?
Snipe, sobbing: I forgot my phone number!
-Izuku drags Snipe back to the house once finals are over.
-Inko...isn’t even surprised when she hears what happened.
-She just sighs and goes, “Do I need to tattoo my number onto you, Hisashi?”
-Snipe wonders if it’s worth the potential security risk, he doesn’t want her getting tracked down and hurt after all.
-There’s a long conversation about microchipping Snipe, so if he disappears again, Izuku can just hunt him down and drag him back home again.
-And voila! Snipe is reunited with his family, the dad fluff can commence.
Snipe: I’mma give him a gun.
Inko, tired: At least he’ll be hurting others instead of himself for once.
-1-A is horrified.
Their precious green bean, wielding a gun?!?!?!?
-It’s made worse when he’s a natural at it, just going feral and having fun with his dad.
-Finally, because I promised more parental figures along with actual, biological Snipe, please consider:
-All Might getting upset because Snipe is stealing ‘his boy’.
Aizawa, trying to be reasonable: All Might, Midoriya is literally Snipe’s child.
All Might, petulantly: But...but he’s my boy.
-For extra humor, make Aizawa also feel like the problem child is his problem child for extra parental jealousy.
-Need more chaos??? Yamada thought he and Aizawa were adopting Izuku for some reason.
Don’t ask how Yamada came to this conclusion, but he is heartbroken when he finds out his almost completed adoption forms were for nothing.
Yamada, sadly: I thought Inko was his older sister...and he didn’t even have a dad!
-Just...Izuku having a dumbass dad and the other potential dads being put off by the realization that Snipe, Snipe, gets actual Dad Rights but somehow lost contact for like...10 entire years.
-Okay rant over, bye.
Healing Gotham | Part 3
Prologue | Part 1 | Part 2
Bruce knew that wrangling his children an hour before Marin Etta’s arrival was going to be messing. First, they had to save the Gotham Airport from Clayface and that took a long minute. Bruce just hopes that it wouldn’t put a delay in his sister’s plans as he knows how much Marin Etta loves to be on schedule—little did know.
“Boys! Clean up that mess.” He shouts pointing to the couch that is upside down on the floor along with the throw pillows, the coffee table is sitting right side up clearing meant to be out of the way. While next to the grandfather clock, Damian is fighting Dick with a katana in hand. Dick is clearly trying to take the weapon away. Jason, Cass, and Steph watch on the sidelines clearly entertained by the battle before them. Tim was nursing a fresh cup of coffee this late in the day.
Bruce swears that between them all he will be gray before the age of 50 and that is saying a lot. “Alfred will be any minute with Marin and I refuse to show her this mayhem.” No one was listening to the man of the manor, though that title kind of belongs to Alfred.
“He started it.” Dick and Damian shout at the same time before glaring at one another. Bruce expected this with Jason and Damian (or even with Tim) but not Dick and Damian. He wonders what his youngest did to be tackle by Dick.
“Father, I refuse to allow this harlot, you call my aunt, to live with us,” Damian states causing Bruce to face-palm not even acknowledging that Damian had called his sister a harlot, but Jason did which then caused Jason to join the battle.
“That’s it, Demon Spawn, you’re going down,” Jason growls as Damian swings his sword to block Jason’s incoming attack. thus continuing the battle onto the floor.
“Why can’t you three be more like your sisters.” A migraine was growing, and it didn’t help by looking at the clock to see that Alfred would most likely be here any minute. “Cass stop recording your brothers and go help them.”
Cass shrugs and turns to Steph, who was holding in her laughter. “Send that to Barb.” She whispers in between snickers. Cass nods and stops recording the video.
“I am gone for less than an hour and the manor is a mess…not that this isn’t normal.” The voice of the butler freezes everyone. Bruce’s eyes widen in shock and disappointment. Shock because Alfred is back so soon, and disappointment because this was not how he wanted to greet his sister. Behind Alfred is the one person that holds him together looking more and more like their mother every day.
“Well, I wasn’t expecting this. Is that Dickie on the floor?” Marinette asks before walking over to Bruce, “Hello Brucie.” She greets with a smile. Bruce wasn’t sure what to do, so he wraps his arms around her and pulls her closer.
“I miss you, Sunbeam.” He whispers holding in his emotions. Behind them, the fighting between the three brothers had stop and Dick was bouncing in place. Jason look like he was about to pass out while Damian was glaring at the scene before him.
“Sunshine, you’re back! Now I have a real acrobatic partner to work with.” Dick exclaims rushing forward to embrace Marinette just as Bruce steps away. Alfred leaves the scene to go get some refreshments as dinner was only hours away.
“Hi Dickie, but before we could catch up, I believe there are some people that I should meet?” Marinette despite her small figure tries to look over Dick’s shoulder as she pats his back missing her first nephew as well. Bruce now appearing behind everyone’s back takes Damian’s katana and place it behind the couch. Damian elbows him in the gut, but Bruce makes no noise. He just wasn’t sure how Marinette would react to his youngest holding a sword.
“Yes. Mari, I like you to meet Cass…Steph…Tim…and my youngest Damian.” Bruce points to each and every one of them with breathing room for them to wave, send a smile, and nod (or in Damian’s case, glare) at Marinette. He purposely makes sure not to introduce Jason to Marinette kind of wondering if his plan will work. While doing the introductions, Alfred returns with a tray of refreshments, he too notices the lack of Jason’s introduction.
“It’s so nice to meet you,” Marinette’s smile sends a wave of something unknown down their spines. Everyone san from Bruce, Alfred, Dick, and Jason felt that way. “Tim, I hear that you’re currently one of the CEO for Wayne Enterprise, I guess we’ll be spending a lot of time together. Cass, you don’t seem like a people person, perhaps a game of chess might help us bond, and Steph, I’m sure you and I will get along great.” Marinette turns to Damian, unsure what to think of her brother’s biological child. He was practically identical to her brother when he was that age (that’s from all the photos she had viewed) and the only difference was his skin was few shades darker.  She can also tell by default that he had a troubling childhood, something that was not inflicted by her brother or his siblings (her nieces and nephews). His mother perhaps? Keeping her wanting to squeal down, she sends Damian a curt nod ending their moment to which Damian huffs and looks away from.
When she turns to Jason, all hell freezes over. Squinting her eyes, she instinctively caresses her hand over his cheek. She could feel a large amount of darkness surrounding the male, but the look in his eyes said a different story. Marinette knew those blue eyes from anywhere. They were always much different from Dickie’s in her mind.
“Jay-Jay?” She whispers, her voice cracking never preventing the tears that were slowly forming in her eyes.
“Hi Pixie, it’s me.”  Those words solidify everything that Marinette secretly hoped to be true, but now she just wonders for how long? Embrace the taller male, she doesn’t want to let go.
Finally getting past her reintroduction to Jason, someone she thought of like a son she turns her head to look over her shoulder, her eyes narrow at her brother and oldest nephew.
For Bruce and Dick, they could feel that their lives were in danger. Alfred watches off to the side and straightens out his tie. “Run.” Immediately, Dick takes off running first. Marinette had fully turned around with a shining star of evil in her eyes. Bruce couldn’t breathe, it felt like his tie was constricting his neck. It didn’t take long before he too follows the same procedures as his oldest. Marinette was quick to chase after them shouting in a series of French some of which are curses.
Jason was breathing heavily his entire being was being questioned. To his remaining siblings, it was odd to see the person that tried to kill them act as if he was on the verge of a panic attack.
“Well, now that… is a family reunion.” Steph laughs before taking off to film the whole ordeal. Damian tsk and walks away mutter how unfit Marinette was to the family. Cass, on the other hand, turns to Jason.
“She’ll be the one to bring the light to Gotham. You wanna spar?” Jason wasn’t sure how to answer Cass’s request. He, himself, couldn’t breathe.
“Master Jason, maybe you should go lay down. I know this is a lot for you to take in.” Alfred suggests as the butler could see that Jason was internally battling himself.
Jason doesn’t answer either of them as he walks out of the room in deep thought.
Miraculous Flash Forward part 4: Emelie Agreste
A Miraculous Fan-fic
Written by
AJ Dunn
Adrien made his way through the hospital to the private wing. He hadn’t slept as he rushed out of his apartment with nothing but an overnight bag. Which, he was now carrying because he couldn’t be bothered to stop at the Graham De Vanily manor before seeing his mother. How long had she been in a coma? He was still wearing his Loashi uniform, his yi-fu.
“Adrien,” Amelie called from the hall. “She’s been slipping in and out. The doctors want to try an experimental procedure but you have to be the one to agree to it.” She rushed her words as Adrien took a minute to process them.
“They think they can flush her bloodstream with your blood.” Felix stepped in. he maintained his calm demeanor as Amelie babbled on frantically. “They say there is some sort of… pollutant in her system and they might be able to but we needed you here being her biological son and all.” Adrien gulped.
“Is she awake now.” he peeked through the crack in the partially opened door. He could hear the beeping of the heart monitor and the pumping of the tubes pumping air into her lungs.
“No, she came alert only a few times since I called you.” Felix stiffened as the doctor stepped up behind Adrien.
“Let me take your bags, honey.” Amelie snatched his bag and went to sit down in the room.
“Mr. Agreste?” the doctor asked
“Adrien,” He corrected “I don’t care my father’s name.” he hoped his mother couldn’t hear him. She had no idea what has been going on since she went into a coma. The things her husband did. A stone of emotions hardened in his heart.
We would like to take a blood sample to make sure you are a match.” The doctor said looking confused as his eyes switched between him and Felix. “And you two are twins right?” Adrien let out a small chuckle in his throat.
“Cousins,” Felix said flatly
“Let’s get a sample from each of you, it’s possible because your mothers are identical twins, that you two could have reverse DNA.” Felix lifted an eyebrow. “This is very complicated but the simple explanation is, your mothers each share 100% of your grandparents’ DNA. Amelie doesn’t have the same blood type as Emelie, but they both carry the same genes, meaning you could have either or. Emelie has B, Amelia has A.”
“So you’re saying, that even though she is my mother, I might now be a match but Felix might.” Adrien fumed.
“Or you both might be.” He looked, “You two look more alike than Amalie and Emelie.” he seemed amused at the striking resemblance between the cousins. “Come with me, I’ll take you to the lab. Adrien hated needles but at least he didn’t nearly have to strip for the phlebotomist to have access to his veins as did the sharp-dressed three-piece suit Felix. He chuckled to himself as he watches his cousin buttoning up the shirt and restoring the tie to its proper fit. It would have been so much easier if his shirt would have been a bit looser he could have lifted one sleeve up over his elbow, but no, Felix demanded his shirts to fit nearly skin tight.
“You might as well be wearing a Cat Noir suit with how tight your suit is.” Adrien laughed
“Shut up.” Felix fastened the sleeve buttons. “I left that at home.” He lifted a smirk to his cousin who, he knew hadn’t gotten one yet as they weren’t yet on the market. Adrien’s face fell.
“How.” He demanded.
“Apparently Luka and I have the same measurements, I have the model one.” He smirked walking past Adrien. Wait that means him and Luka as well. Adrien was a bit more muscular now than his cousin, so he might not be the same size anymore.
They walked back to the room in silence. Just outside the door, he grabbed Felix by the arm.
“What do I say to her?” he asked his cousin. Felix wasn’t run on his emotions as Adrien was. He had a more practical mind and Adrien needed that right now. Felix put his hands on Adrien’s shoulders.
“If she wakes up, you say nothing about Gabriel,” he demanded. “He was on another business trip and we were unable to reach him.” that sounded just like him too. They walked into the room. The hum of the machines and the dimly lit room felt ominous to Adrien. His heart stalled in his chest as he watched hers rise and fall. Her frail frame lay under a thin blanket with her hands crossed peacefully over her waist. With an IV in her right arm.
He walked closer to her sitting in the chair to her left he rested his head on the edge of the mattress. It seemed like forever as they sat there in silence before a noise came from Amalie.
“Well, you look…” Amelie smiled as Adrien looked up at her. “Nice in that what is it called?”
“Yi-fu.” he told her. “I have been made a Laoshi, a teacher.” he rested his head back down.
“What do you teach?” She continued. Amelie never was one to sit in silence for long. It made her nervous.
“Kung Fu.” Adrien sat upright in his chair knowing more questions would come.
“Ah, I see.” She looked up at him then shifted her eyes away. “You look like you have filled out in the shoulders, you must have built up some muscles.” Indeed he had. “I bet your teacher is very proud of you.” She smiled. Adrien hadn’t even told Felix yet.
“He died. Yesterday, as I sat by his bedside.” he looked down at his mother laying so cold beside him. He missed his mother, though he didn’t remember much about her except her kindness and care for him. Amelie got up and left the room after another long stretch of silence.
“It’s been hard on her,” Felix said. “After years of believing her sister dead, only to find out…” he stopped himself knowing the direction this conversation would lead.
“Do you think she can hear?” Adrien asked. “Do you think she knows what he did to her?”
“If she can hear us now, then she could hear him then,” he said coldly. “So no Adrien, I don’t think she knows. Otherwise, she would have died of heartbreak years ago.” Hours passed in silence before the doctor returned.
“May I speak with you two privately?” they both followed him to a small empty waiting room. “There’s no easy way to say this. But you have the right to know. You are twins.” the words came out but they felt foreign as Adrien and Felix exchanged confused and shocked glances. “Your DNA is identical and you are identical twins, and I compared your DNA to Amelie and Emelie and…”
“What are you saying, Doctor?” Felix demanded. “Amelie is your mother, both…”
“I can explain.” A shattered voice came from behind them as Amelie stepped into the room. “I…” tears began to fall down her face. “I never wanted you to find out like this.”
“I’ll excuse you for a moment.” the doctor turned to leave before Adrien grabbed his wrist.
“My mother.” He said sharply. “Emelie, are we a match?” the doctor nodded. “Then get everything ready.” The doctor left the room. Amelie took a seat on the couch as both boys took seats in front of her. Felix weaved his fingers together as he sat upright and stiff. Adrien slouched forward his face dropping to his hands before looking up at her again.
“You see Adrien, my husband was never home.” Her voice trembled in her throat. “Emelie wanted a child and so did I.”  Tears began to well up in her as she dabbed a hanky to her eyes. “I didn’t want to do it but because Emelie was the face of the Agreste brand he would never allow her to carry a child.” Adrien nodded as he recalled how his father controlled everything about Adrien’s life ensuring he was the picture of perfection. “So she came up with a plan because we were so good at switching places.” Adrien felt his jaw tighten. He sensed the unease in Felix as well.
“Enough mother, we don’t need the details.” Felix snapped. He sounded more and more like Gabriel and now they both knew why. “You are telling me that my father is that man who terrorized the world for his own selfish maniacal means?” Felix’s words slapped like a cold wet hand on his face. His eyes shot up to his cousin. Felix bore a look of utter horror as he realized what he had said. Adrien pursed his lips and nodded, they both shared the emotion.
“We agreed that if it was twins, we would each take one. Or try again for another one. But we were sure, we would have twins.” right the Graham De Vanily twin curse. Every generation bore twins. Adrien hung his head. Felix froze in disbelief.
“Why did you wait until now to tell us mother!” Felix snapped. “Were you ever planning on telling us?”
“Yes, until…”
“Until father was arrested?” Adrien snapped up. His words stolen from Felix’s own mouth. They both huffed.
“You two have always been so much alike even now, I see so much of myself and Gabriel in you…
“ENOUGH!” Felix stood up. “I don’t want to hear another word about that monster.” He stormed to the door. He caught himself at the doorway and cast a look back to Adrien, who looked up at him. “I’m sorry, you knew him better than I did, I am sure this hurts you just as much as it does me.” then he left.
“Adrien,” she reached a hand out placing it on his knee. He pulled away from her. “I never wanted you two to find out like this.”
“As soon as they perform the procedure, I will return to Shanhai.” Adrien said coldly. “Don’t concern yourself with me anymore.” He stood and left the room hoping to catch up with the doctor to rush this plan of his.
The good news was, since both the boys were a match for Emelie, the doctor could take equal amounts from each boy rather than draggin the process out over time. Taking more than a quart of blood from one patient wasn’t done. Plus, he could return and Felix could offer more in a month or so.
“I’ll be returning to Paris in the morning.” Felix said after he once again had to remove his shirt. They sat side by side in the lab as two technicians worked on them.
“I’ll be heading back to Shanghai tonight.”
“So soon?” Felix sounded surprised. “I figured we could use a night out.” weird it wasn’t like Felix to consider a night out.
“A night out?” Adrien asked curious about his thought process.
“We’ve never gotten drinks together and well.” Adrien could hear him inhale air sharply as the needle penetrated his arm. “Frankly after today, I feel like getting messed up.”
“So you’ll need someone to carry you home.” Adrien teased.
“That’s just it, I don’t want to go home.” Adrien couldn’t blame him, he didn’t want to go there either. “It wouldn’t be wise to get a flight while drunk Adrien, so join me.” Adrien smiled at him and nodded.
They found a small pub and slipped inside. It wasn’t a high ranking spot, but it had beer on tap and annoying music playing off key. Adrien noticed why immediately, it was a karaoke bar. A group of girls were on stage singing an old Spice Girls song. The 5 girls sung and danced to a song about lovers and friends. Something about it reminded him of Marinette and their mutual friends from class.
They took a table where they could see the singers and the bar, but was in the darkest corner they could find. A barmaid came around and took their orders. They had never gone into a bar like this before and had no idea what to order, so they asked for the most popular drink the house sold.
“And some fish and chips.” Adrien called after. He felt a sudden jab in his side as he stood up. He was still wearing his Yi-fu. He went into the bathroom and locked the door.
“You can’t drink.” Plagg said, “If you don’ you won’t be able to transform”
“I wasn’t planning on it.” Adrien said.
“Drink? Or Transform?” Plagg floated in the air near him with his hands on his hips.
“Either.” He said. “Come on, we can’t leave him out there by himself in his condition.” they were brought a pitcher of beer and two drinks. Great. Felix finished off his first drink as Adrien pretended to sip on his. He waited for his cousin to not be looking then switched cups with him and poured more in.
The waitress caught him one time while Felix was in the bathroom.
“Should I be concerned for your brother?” she said wryly.
“He needs to drink, I don’t, but he doesn’t want to drink alone.” Adrien smiled. “I’ll cut him off before I have to carry him.”
“What’s with the outfit.”
“It’s a long story.” He smiled again as Felix returned to his seat. The waitress took the pictures and left to refill it. By the time the bartender made the last call of the night, it was two in the morning. Felix had drunk, danced and even attempted to sing an Elton John song. Adrien had to get up and help him with it lest he fall off the stage. He even turned Felix’s mic off so no one would hear him burping. To his surprised he must have sung circle of life rather nicely as the whole bar cheered when they were done. It was a weird choice of song but Felix was in a weird mood.
Adrien nearly carried his brother up the stairs of the hotel to the room he rented for them. He tried to keep as low of a profile as possible. Imagine the scandal of carrying an incapacited CEO into a shady motel. He dropped him onto one bed then set his carry bag on the other bed. He pulled out a pair of shorts and went into the bedroom to change.
The next morning Felix was already awake when Adrien scrambled out of bed.
“What did you do?” Felix scowled before Adrien could even through back the blankets. He looked up at him confused. “We are in a shady motel. I hope to tell no one saw us come in here.” Felix was livid, but Adrien laughed.
“I was careful, remember I don’t want to be seen in public either.”
“That’s right, Adrien Agreste doesn’t exist, so he can’t be seen dragging a man into a motel. Never mind the scandal.”
“Would you ratherr I had taken you home?” Adrien asked standing up. Felix’s eyes froze on him.
“Damn put a shirt on. What are you trying to do give me a complex?” Felix darted his eyes way suddening aware of the toned ab muscles Adrien had mastered in his time with Chao Sifu.
“Come to Shanghai, I’ll whip you into shape in no time.” He laughed.
“I have far to much to do,” Felix snapped. “Remember who does all the work in this family?”
“I work too.” Adrien pouted.
“Occasionally participating in fashion competitions doesn’t count.”
“Hey you still need to get Marinette to make me a costume.”
“She’d need your measurements.” Felix’s mouth contorted into a hethanous smile. “And an address where to send it.” This gave Adrien an idea. He picked up his phone and dialed up Cheng Sifu.
“Mr. Graham,” Cheng only called him that when Marinette was nearby.
“Can you ask Marinette for a favor,” he stalled a minute, “Say a secret admirer of her work wants to commission something for her.” He filled Cheng in on the details. He agreed to ask her and let him know.
“Really are you going to start sending her flowers too.”
“Not a bad idea cousin.” He smirked.
“Funny I thought we were brothers.” Felix tossed the cold hard truth at him. It was the first time either one had acknowledged it. Adrien’s eyebrows narrowed as he thought.
“We’re still cousins too.” He snorted.
“Considering we shared the same womb, I think that trumps cousin any day.”
“You do have a point. Brother.” Adrien dropped a hand on his brothers shoulder, “Should we schedule a press conference?” Felix stiffened with anxiety at the idea of yet another Agreste based scandal. “That’s what I thought. Let’s stick to cousin unless these thin walls have ears.” he left Felix to dress in the bathroom. He put on a plain pair of blue jeans and black t-shirt with a Red short sleeve button down that he left open in the front. It was one of his favorite shirts as he had Chao order it for him from Marinette’s online store.
He couldnt’ use Chao Sifu anymore, so Cheng was his only other friend in China. He brushed his teeth as he heard the front door open and close. Fine, it was best they not be seen leaving the hotel just incase people get the wrong idea. He checked his phone for the return flight time. He had missed the earlier flight but he could get on the next one. He quickly booked and grabbed his bags.
“Forgetting something?” Plagg groaned. It must have been a long night for him. Despite Adien smuggling fries for him off the table. It still wasn’t cheese.
“We’ll check the market at the airport for snacks.” Adrien hurried out the door leaving the hotel key on the table and secured the door behind him. The housekeepers were already making their rounds as he rushed down the stairs to the street to catch a cab.
“Hey, isn’t that Adrien Agreste.” Someone called down the street. He quickly pulled the hoodie from the short sleeve button down over his face in case they were inclined to snap a picture. He slid into the cab closing the door just in time for the fan girls to catch up demanding a photo and answers.
“Where have you been.”
“Why are you here.”
“What happened with your father.”
“The air port please.” He said but the cab didn’t move. The driver got out of the car and Adrien tried to look without lifting his head as he locked his door.
“Get off my car, I don’t know who you think is in my car, but get off.” The cabby was yelling at fan girls who, in an attempt to keep him from leaving had actually climbed on the hood trying to get a view of his face.
“It’s Adrien Agreste.”
“No, it’s not, I gave Adrien Agreste a ride earlier and he was no where near this dump.” the man yelled. He got back in and put the car into drive.
“Thank you.” Adrien whispered.
“Your brother asked me to come get you, told me to lie if anyone saw you.” the man offered back. “He also told me you’d be going to the air port and prepaid your fair.”
“Thanks again.”
“If’ it’s not too bold, can I ask why you two lied about Adrien Agreste being nothing but an alias for Felix Graham De Vanily?”
“You heard about that?”
“Of course, Paris’ Sunshine boy disappears after his fathers arrest.  Only for some identical slick haired pretty boy to take his place.” He scoffed. “My teenagers were mad with rage when they watched the press release.” Adrien felt a little bad for his fans who couldn’t understand.
“I had to do it.” Adrien sulked
“I know, it must have been hard for you in those earlier days after the incident.” If only he knew. They pulled up to the air port and Adrien got out, giving the man a smile and bid him farewell.
The flight back to Shanghai felt like going home. It wasn’t his permanent home, but it felt right, for now.
Note
I have a post TWK prompt Jude meets her mother’s wealthy parents and they try to set her up for an arranged marriage, And Cardan rescues her
Edit:
I definitely did not base everything off of Gilmore Girls.
“We have grandparents?” Anger fumed through me while Taryn stood in shock. “And you chose to keep this a secret for how long?”
“Jude, I didn’t tell you for many reasons but now that you seem to be, well nearing the end of your peak you must get some family if you’re not willing to settle down,” Madoc leaned back into his chair.
“What do you mean settle down? What? I’d marry some random monster like Locke? I’d rather die than ever marry anyone that I don’t care about,” I spoke the truth right now. Something I rarely did with Madoc.
“Taryn?” He moved off of me trying to figure out what his other daughter was feeling. It took a lot to get me to agree to meet with Madoc but it was even more difficult to get me to be in here with Taryn. I’m only doing it in case they try to kill Cardan or something but right now it doesn’t look like it.
“Where do they live?” Taryn finally spoke.
“Right outside Elfhame, in a large house by the country. They have many connections and you can easily go back and forth in case you’d like to form a connection which I’d rather you not do,” For someone so against us meeting them he’s telling us an awful lot about it. “Look, if you guys want you can see them, but you don’t need to, I was just doing my job,” He stood and began to make his way out of the room.
“You’re a little too late,” I called after him.
“At least he told us,” It’s typical of Taryn to do that. Agree with the one who caused us the most pain. This is exactly why she’s known as the optimist and why I’m the pessimist.
“Wow! It’s so great that he finally told us! Madoc is such a good person because he told us about our only biological family still alive that can possibly help up a decade after he kidnapped us!” Sarcasm erupted, it’s something I try not to do with her but right now she was really getting on my nerves.
“Jude,” She began, “I’m sorry. I understand why you’re so angry but please, let’s go see them.”
I narrowed my eyes, “you can go see them. But I’m not ruining their lives on top of what they already went through.”
“Excuse me?” Was she really this stupid?
“Don’t be so naive. They obviously had to go through the death of their daughter after she ran away. What do you think they went through after mom came here? And then after like 30 years we show up at their doorstep claiming to be their daughter’s kids? They probably haven’t even gotten over her death. Maybe you didn’t love our parents like me but I still mourn them,” I knew the last part wasn’t needed but sometimes she really made me feel like that. Taryn moved on so much faster. Vivi remembered them very vividly and had a good reason because of that but I never did. They just said I was being difficult for no reason when I was forced to live among monsters after I saw my own mother and father die by the hands of the man who’s been taking care of me.
“You really think that? I hope you know that I grieve them just like you and Vivi do. The only difference is I can hide it better unlike you two. Jude, deal with it. You’re not the only one with traumatic events who’s empathetic towards other people who lost their family. Don’t you think it’d make them feel better to know that they still have a piece of mom left?” How could she be so optimistic? If I was in their place I’d wish to forget everything, I’d wish to die in peace knowing that no one else would need to go through the pain I felt. Maybe something was just wrong with me.
“Fine, I’ll go but if everything goes wrong don’t blame me.”
She smiled sweetly, “Thank you.”
Vivi drove us to mom’s parent’s house. Well, technically our grandparents but I’m not sure if it’s okay to call them that yet. Vivi had called them earlier and made sure they knew we were coming, she said they’re sweet.
“Alright, we’re here,” Vivi didn’t leave the car, she didn’t follow us to the doorstep. She was related to them yet she didn’t come with us.
“Are you not coming?” I asked.
“Why? You guys deserve an actual family, I don’t want to see any more. They’ll just ruin my life again,” Every word she spoke made me feel more normal. I didn’t want more people to interfere when I was doing what I wanted. I was so close to getting a higher place on court.
“Alright then, Jude we better get going,” Taryn pushed us away from the car before I changed my mind. The house was gigantic, it was like a mansion, much bigger than a regular family-sized house. It was like Locke’s estate but more homely. It had a beautiful garden with a large driveway. It was in an ‘u’ shape. The house looked newer than the estates in Elfhame but it was still very grand and kept well for its age. I heard that most houses get very old here and start to crack but this one was taken care of.
“I don’t want to go,” I stated flatly as we reached the front doors. The door has a gold knob with a glass window but there were designs on it to keep people from outside to look inside. It was like a privacy barrier but it worked very well because I didn’t see the owners my grandparents walk up to the door and open it. I jumped a little, I wasn’t expecting that but Taryn was very ready with her gigantic smile.
“Hello girls!” The woman grinned widely while looking between the two of us. It was as if she was picking apart everything in our face and bodies, but we were identical so I’m not sure why her head went back and forth.
“Come in, please,” The man pushed his wife away a little and welcomed us inside. He was tall, and wore spectacles. They had a thin metal frame and were small for his face. They were circle shaped and he wore them a little done on his nose, it definitely made him look old. The woman had a short blackish Gray shirt and she wore a red pantsuit.
“Thank you,” Taryn was the first to speak between us and I could tell this was how most of the trip would end up going. They’d ask a question and Taryn would answer, and I’d just nod along. And like usual, I was completely right, an hour in and somehow the only thing I said was “thank you”. The man had introduced himself as Richard and the woman had said her name was Emily. They seemed like lovely people who wanted to get to know their grandchildren but we were all definitely uncomfortable and I was definitely a huge reason behind it.
“So, Jude, how are you?” Emily said it directly to me so Taryn couldn’t answer for me.
“I’m fine, how are you?” I would’ve used her name but I wasn’t sure if she’d like that.
“I’m great, so what are you two doing? School? I assume you’re around 17?”
“Uh, well I did go to school,” I started not sure how to explain to her that my foster father killed the prince during his coronation which made him a traitor and then the person who I thought cared about me actually loved my sister. Then, I made my enemy the king so that my little brother wouldn’t need to be on the throne and so that my foster father wouldn’t be given any power and now I’m the high king’s seneschal.
“We did but we graduated,” Taryn interrupts us so that I wouldn’t say anything stupid. That’s a great way to put it.
“That’s nice, so are you guys going to college?” Richard asked.
“Yes, well not exactly but we have jobs,” Another lie. Taryn is really going all out today with the lies.
“Is college even a thing there?” Emily looked at me.
“Where?” I wasn’t sure if they knew about Faerie but I couldn’t risk it.
“That place, the one which stole our daughter from us, the one which caused her death,” Emily said in such a sweet voice you wouldn’t be able to feel her rage unless you were looking directly at her eyes.
“Yes, we live there. College isn’t a thing and honestly the only thing we can do is either become a knight, a member of the court, or just get married,” I explained.
“So where are you two on the list? I’ve heard that girls get married around your age and we have a couple of boys that we’d love to set you two up with. They can also get you to very high places on the list, almost near the top with the king,” Richard jumped in.
“Well, you can’t help Taryn, she’s already found a place,” I felt their eyes on me and I had to get it off.
“Oh! Are you-?” Emily began.
“I’m betrothed,” Taryn finished with a glare that was shot in my direction.
“That’s great! Is he a good man? Will you be protected? Do you truly love him?” A ton of questions spilled out of Emily and all I could see in her face was grief. She missed mom and all of her questions gave away her intentions. She wanted to make sure we were safe, she wanted to make sure we weren’t going to make the same mistakes. I don’t think they’re that bad anymore. They’re trying to save me from Faerie. Something that only one other person has done and that’s Vivi.
“Yes, I really do. He makes me feel like I’m flying,” She gushed.
“Well that’s great, but please be careful, think it over before you say ‘I do’,” Richard looked at her sternly.
“I will, I promise,” Taryn said looking down at her hand where a small gold ring laid on her ring finger.
“What about you dear?” Emily’s attention turned back to me. Now, I really don’t have anymore saves.
“I’m not planning on marrying anyone there,” I heard a snort come from Taryn but moved on. I could tell she was thinking about my relationship with Cardan which was very simple. “I have a place in the court, I’m not sure for how long I can secure it but I’m happy with where I am,” I didn’t want to give too much away.
“Really? Are you a knight?” Richard leaned forward interested, to know how I got a place without a mans
“No,” I laughed, it was my dream but I was definitely not a knight and I’m not sure if I could be trusted to be a knight anymore. Cardan would choose me to be a part of his personal guard just to annoy me and I’d probably end up going to the tower of forgetting to kill him. “I’m actually connected to the high King,” I wasn’t sure how much I could say but my wording was really bad and I could tell the second they left my mouth. Richard looked surprised while Emily looked disgusted for a split second. She covered it up but it was there. “Oh! No, not like that! I am definitely not connected to him like that! I’m just his seneschal,” I scramble to get the words out.
“Oh, that’s a lot better,” Richard recovers a lot faster than Emily. “Alright, well it is time for me to get back to work but Emily, you’ll be here with the girls?”
“Yes, don’t worry I’ll still be here and if you guys do decide to leave, please do think of coming here,” Emily does seem very sweet and honestly it’d be a lot better to live here than in the tiny apartment with Vivi and Heather, oh and of course Oak.
“Yes, don’t worry if I ever do plan on leaving I know where I’m going,” I grinned hoping they know that I’m trying to accept them. Taryn doesn’t say a word, it’s obvious she doesn’t like them. You couldn’t tell at first but now she’s not being as friendly. Maybe because of the way they talked about her marriage but I’d say the exact same thing if we were still on better terms but now we barely even acknowledge each other.
“Now, Jude, I really do think we could set you up with someone. We could at least throw you a coming out party! Oh, please Jude! It was my favorite thing to do with your mother! Please?” She seemed so excited and I know I should’ve said no but what’s the worst that could happen? I’d just say I’m better off with no one and they of all people should understand that.
“Okay, I’ll do it.”
“What?” Taryn asked, not expecting that.
“Great! Alright I’ll get started on it and you two should sleep here for the night, tomorrow evening you will have the best party ever!” Emily stood up excitedly as a maid came in to show us to our rooms.
“Actually I have to go home. Locke is expecting me,” Taryn escaped, leaving me alone. Right before I was planning on going to sleep a short lady walked inside. She had a straight cut that went up to her chin and she had black cat-eye glasses on.
“Hello, stand up straight please,” There was a hint of Russian in her accent. She walked up to me and began to measure me. My waist, my hips, my bust, she measured every curve on my body. “That’ll be all, a dress will be ready for you tomorrow,”
“Thanks,” I didn’t understand exactly what happened but I think I have a dress now. It was a sleepless night, thoughts filled my head but it wasn’t the worst night of sleep due to the bed I had. I don’t even have anything to compare it to. Somehow I didn’t think about Cardan once throughout the trip. I was afraid of leaving for a day like this, I told him I may be out for up to a couple of days since I kind of wanted to stay with Vivi and Oak for a day but I didn’t realize that I would like Emily and Richard so much that I’d be okay with spending a night.
The party started out great, over time the garden was filled with men who all fought to get to know me. I didn’t enjoy the fact that I was actually missing Cardan right now. Usually right now he’d say something to give me something to overthink, laugh, or mostly panic about but right now I was stuck with a bunch of boys who all wanted my hand. As if they really expected me to choose and on top of it, Emily was very keen on me choosing. She had told me she had about 5 batches so I can have a party each night of the week. It wasn’t that I didn’t like her or anything but, I just could not deal with a room filled with rich people like this. I know I’m supposed to be happy that there’s a room full of people ready to marry me at any second but right now all I wanted to do was run all the way back to the palace. To bicker with Cardan and fight with Madoc at council meetings. I finally found an empty area , a couch in the corner of the garden, somehow no one was to be found. I sat as politely as I could incase anyone was watching but I ended up leaning back and closing my eyes trying to process every person who’s introduced themself. Within minutes later I felt a thud next to me on the couch, I tried my best not to groan and turned my head. I attempted to have a sweet smile but I’m pretty sure it was a glare from the moment I looked over.
“Why the face?” The boy had a sly grin on his face as my eyes widened.
“Cardan!” I hissed. “What are you doing here?” How did he even know about this party?
“Taryn told Locke and Locke told me about it,” He replied coolly while he took a bite
out of something he was holding.
“Who’s at the throne? Oh my god, is it Madoc? He’s going to kill everyone,” I started to panic thinking about what was happening in Elfhame with Cardan and I back here.
“Don’t worry Lo-“
I cut him off, “Locke! You put Locke in charge? He’s going to kill everyone and lock us out!” I almost stood up with even more panic spread throughout me. At least Madoc was logical, Locke thinks everything is a stupid game.
“Locke called for the court of shadows and now they’re doing whatever it is that you do,” Cardan finished.
I took a deep breath, “Oh thank God.”
“So, what did you do to get a party for yourself? I doubt you’re actually planning on choosing someone,” I could tell he didn’t like the idea of me marrying someone just for the sake of it.
“After Locke, I don’t think I’ll ever rush into love at all,” I forgot who I was talking to for a second, I let my guard down stupidly. I could tell Cardan didn’t like the fact that I said Locke but he let me continue before I stopped talking, “I’m just doing this because they miss my mother and Em- she pleaded. How could I refuse a stupid party that caused her more excitement than to know that she had a piece of her daughter left.”
He smirked, “Well, I know something that’d cause her even more excitement.”
“What?” I could already tell this would end with a dirty joke.
“Oh, don’t be like that. I was just going to say that if you chose me, you could pretend you’d live with me for a while,” His idea was great except for the fact that she’d freak out to know that I planned on running away with a boy that she doesn’t even know.
“I think she’d have a heart attack.”
He snorted, “Well, we won’t know until we do it.”
“Cardan!” I gasped.
“Also, who’s ‘she’?” I realized I never actually explained to him who my grandparents were.
“The woman who gave birth to my mom.”
“So ‘he’ is the dad who caused his wife pleasure and pain so that your mother would come out of ‘she’?” He could make even the stupidest things sexual.
“Yes Cardan, please talk about the way that my mom was conceived. Please, I’d love to know more,” sarcasm filled my voice.
“I’d love to but ‘she’, is coming down here’,” my heart stopped for a second. Was she going to recognize him? He did glamour himself so hopefully she wouldn’t, and she probably didn’t know how the new king looked anyway.
“I see you’ve made a friend,” Emily winked at me.
“Yes, I did, but I think it’s time w-“ I stop myself quickly, “I go back home.” I smile as naturally as I can but I can tell it looks too artificial.
“Yes, well I’d like to get to know him a bit before you go,” Emily looks at him. “Have we met before?” She’s catching on.
“I’m not sure, maybe you knew my father?” Cardan played along but maybe he wasn’t. He sounded serious, was he actually asking my mortal grandmother whether or not she knew the old high king?
“Where’s Richard?” I blurted, hoping that she doesn’t figure out who Cardan is.
“Yes, I’m not sure where he is, but Jude. If you ever do feel comfortable, I’d love for you to call me your grandmother. And the same goes for Richard,” This was it. The conversation I least wanted to have and on top of it we were doing it in front of the boy I hate.
“Well, I hope you wouldn’t be calling him grandmother,” His laugh echoed through my body.
“Oh Yes! My wording was not that great,” Emily began to laugh. I’m surprised she didn’t snap at him but again, I think I’m just one who has no filter when it comes to Cardan.
“Emily, dear. Oh, hello. Jude, did you find someone interesting?” Richard inquired as he walked up to the trio.
“Yes, I did, now I really must get going,” I just wanted to leave and Cardan was not helping at all. I glared at him hoping he’d catch the hint.
“Well, it was great meeting you two but, I too must get going and well, I would just love to give Jude a ride back to her house,” Cardan stood up.
“Jude, will have to go her own way,” Emily interrupted. I wasn’t sure whether or not these people knew I was from Faerie.
“Yes, I hope I can see you another time,” I knew if I didn’t go with him I’d be stuck here for at least another day. My eyes burned hoping he’d come up with something else, anything else.
“I don’t think you understand, I know of Jude’s home very well and am offering to take her with me. I’d love to see where she live as I live there too,” Cardan said again. His voice was commanding, just like how it is when he’s in the court.
“Y-yes, of course, you may definitely take her with you,” Richard stammered. He was definitely afraid but I’m not sure what he was afraid of. I looked over and Cardan looked like his normal glamoured self. Emily stood there, as if she was struck by lightning.
“Emily, you’ll walk them out?” Richard looked over to his frozen wife.
“Yes,” She began to walk next to me while Cardan was a step in front of me. Once we reached the front door I began to say goodbye. I hugged her first, I kissed her lightly on her cheek as I saw everyone else do. She did the same to me but lingered a little longer. She whispered into my ear, “You could’ve just said no. You did not need to drag him here to save yourself. The next time you come here, I expect you to leave him there.” Her words were stern and I could tell she wasn’t joking around. She was right, I could’ve just said no but I did not bring him here. He came himself but there was no point in arguing. I wasn’t sure if she knew he was king but I could tell they knew he wasn’t mortal.
“Good bye,” Emily said quietly as we began to step outside the door, “and farewell, your majesty.” The last part made me freeze for a second. Cardan kept moving but he grabbed my arm quickly. Emily definitely saw it, she knew she was right.
“What did you do?” I asked once we were out of sigh.
“Nothing, just unglamored myself for
a second so they saw my crown,” Cardan shrugged as we continued to move.
“You did what?” I froze.
“Well, what did you want me to do?” He grabbed my arm again and forced me to start walking again.
“Anything other than that!” I couldn’t believe him.
“Hey, you needed rescuing so I rescued you.” He brought me to the horse he came here on.
“Thank you,” I said as I threw myself over it.
“You’re welcome, just make sure the next time you plan on getting married,” I turned my head to look at him as he talked, “Make sure it’s to me.” And with that, we started. I didn’t say a word on the the ride back not sure whether or not he was joking. But even if he wasn’t, it didn’t matter because that’s not my priority. We reached Elfhame by dawn and I made a decision. That was the first and last time I’d ever go back to their house.
She kills my self control - Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Even when I loved Nicasia, I never considered anything past a strategic marriage. I am not sure I am even capable of … loving that way. Unconditionally. There was never much of that in my family, either.
Chapter 6. A lot of wonder going through my head
"My door," I drawl as I approach Hollow Hall.
"My Prince," my door replies.
"Is my brother home?"
The last few days have been quiet for me, thankfully. Balekin is away more than usual, trying to get in our father's good grace. It was never officially announced who would be crowned, but we all know it will be Dain. That does not mean Balekin and Elowyn will not try harder than usual to appease the High King. It does mean, unfortunately for me, that my eldest brother tends to be in a bad mood when he is home. Consequently, I have made a habit of asking the door before entering, must I find some other place to be.
"No, my prince."
When I get in, a human boy takes my coat to hang. He looks no older than 14, is he new? I cannot tell. We cycle through so many servants that I have long stopped trying to tell them apart. We tend to keep twenty servants around at any given time. The turnover is quite high, as Balekin has a tendency for neglect and a penchant for torture. Some of them also mysteriously find their way back to the Mortal Realm with pockets full of gold.
Seeing the dazed boy does give me an idea. Since my brother is away, I can check on the servants and see if he already replaced the girl I sent back last week. So, I count. I walk the hallways, counting servants as I go.
Eighteen.
I know for a fact that there were twenty last week before I freed the girl. Another one is missing. I survey the house again to see if I miscounted. Still eighteen.
As I stand in front of a set of closed doors, I realize there is a room I have not checked.
I stare at the doors leading to the basement. I have only been down there a handful of times, when Balekin wanted to see if I had ‘toughened up’. The horrors that he did, that  I  did, still haunted my dreams. I put a hand on the door and breathe in deeply, gathering the courage to open it. The phantom smell of mildew and bodily fluids awaiting me in the crypt floods my senses.
If the missing servant is down there, I would rather not know.
A coward through and through.
None of the servants pay me any mind as I walk to my room and close the door behind me. On a mannequin in the corner, I see the outfit I had commissioned for myself for the coronation.
The image of the dress I pictured for Jude flashes in my mind again. How well it would match with my own. I sigh at the unwelcome thought. I can hear Balekin's voice in my head, Romantic fool. You're a disgrace.
Still, I rummage through my drawers. I find the sketchbook the tailor has left for me to decide which outfit I preferred. In it, I find some unfinished sketches for dresses probably meant for my sisters. I grab paper and ink, then trace the general shape of one of them on the new sheet.
I am no artist, but with the help of the sketchbook, I manage to draw a half-decent sketch of what I have in mind. An ombré dress, dark blue to white, with the silhouette of a forest stitches around the skirt, climbing up a form-fitting bodice with a plunging neckline.
I order a servant to call for the tailor, not trusting anyone to deliver the message and not leak the information. If the information was to get to either of my brothers, I would never hear the end of it.
I sit at my desk, twirling my quill around my fingers as I wait. As Fae royalty, I grew up being told that human females are for breeding. Vessels to carry Fae children, since we are so unlikely to conceive. However, I was never one to think about children: why produce heirs if I will never ascend to the throne? I would rather be free of the responsibility of raising them (not that my parents did much of that). Even when I loved Nicasia, I never considered anything past a strategic marriage. I am not sure I am even capable of … loving that way. Unconditionally. There was never much of that in my family, either. Still, could this explain why I seem to lose all control where Jude is concerned? A biological need to find a human to keep the bloodline going. Is this why her sinful curves have been keeping me up every night since the everapple incident? Why I am unable to take other females to bed without thinking of her?
A knock at my door makes me jump and brings me back to reality. I look down at my desk and realize I have been writing as I daydreamed.
Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude. Jude.
I quickly crumple the sheet of paper, aware that the fresh ink is going to stain my fingers, and call for the visitor to come in. The tailor enters and bows deeply.
“You asked to see me, Your Highness.”
This is stupid.
Why did I do this?
She will not even wear it.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
You are too far down this path to back down.
I take my drawing and hand it to the dressmaker, trying my best to look overconfident.
“I would like to have this made for the coronation.”
She looks at the drawing and her brows rise slightly, but she catches herself quickly. “Yes, of course,” she puts the paper in her bag, “Shall I have it sent here?”
No. Absolutely not. “Send it to Madoc’s stronghold,” I pause for a moment, thinking of how dead I would be if Madoc (or Jude, for that matter) knew it came from me, “For Jude. Do not write who it came from.”
“Y-Your Highness, the general’s family already ordered their outfits,” she says, panicking, “I do not have the time to make two outfits.”
“Figure it out," I say as I wave her away. I cannot give myself time to second guess this.
