we could be more | dean winchester | 2
Tumblr media
Summary: Ivonne Rainer was practically a trained killing machine. Stripped to the bone then built back up by her father in order to become one of the best, like he was. She was forced into hunting when she was nineteen, having developed powers that couldn’t be explained. That is, until she was paid a visit by Azazel’s lackey. Her powers were gone, she needed help, and that’s when she found her father’s journal. Pointing to Sam and Dean Winchester.
SERIES MASTERLIST
EVERYBODY LOVES A CLOWN
NOW PLAYING: TEARS OF A CLOWN - IRON MAIDEN
I walked up to Sam and Dean, smiling sadly. “I’m sorry ‘bout your dad. I’ve got my clothes in here, so I’ll change quickly.”
“Alright.” Dean opened the door to my car, giving me a wink. “Sam and I’ll block the windows.” I climbed into it, putting on a black dress and heels before getting out.
Dean whistled. “Lookin’ pretty, Beanie.”
“Beanie?” I raised an eyebrow, and so did Sam.
“She wears a beanie. Beanies are adorable and so is she. So I’m callin’ her Beanie.”
“I can’t win.” I groaned. “Let’s just go, you don’t want to be late.”
“Yeah, we don’t.” Sam scowled at Dean as we got back into the car, Dean punished by sitting in the backseat while I rode shotgun.
“I can’t help but feel like this is my fault. Like I’m some bad omen.” I frowned, but was waved off by Sam.
“No, no. If anything, you helped.”
“You saved my life, Beanie, I owe you a lot for that.” Dean piped up.
“Will you stop calling me Beanie?” I asked, hopeful.
“No chance.”
“Worth a shot.” We spent the rest of the road in silence until we pulled up at a location with everyone dressed in black, and there was a funeral pyre. This was John Winchester’s funeral. I, at first, insisted on not going, but Sam and Dean insisted that I’d come along. I stood in silence, thanking the stars that the second funeral I’d been to had been without my empathic abilities. I couldn’t feel anything, and it was bliss.
“Before he.. before, did he say anything to you? About anything?” Sam asked Dean, who looked down.
“No.. no. Nothing.” He replied monotonously, and I looked between the two before enjoying the absence of overwhelming emotions.
Sam nudged me, taking me out of my thoughts. “You okay?”
“Yeah, just in thought.” I replied quietly, watching the pyre burn.
“I-I can’t take much more of this.” Dean groaned, walking off. We followed him to the Impala, where he handed me my clothes, so I went to the nearest bathroom and changed, coming back out while fixing my scarf.
“Alright, what now?” I asked, fixing my hair.
“Home?” Dean shrugged. “Though I need to get my Impala.”
“Let’s take my car, then, and spend a bit at my place before we get your car.” I offered. “Then we can tow the Impala out to my house. I’ve got quite a few tools there you can use.”
“Sounds like a privilege, Beanie.” Dean grinned to Sam, going shotgun. “See? I knew we should’ve kept her with us.”
“Thanks, Ivonne.” Sam whispered in my ear, and I patted his shoulder.
“Please.” I scoffed. “You two are helping me live. Lunch is an understatement.” I opened my car door, getting in. “There’s a good cafe where I can get us lunch. Wanna make a pit stop there?”
“That would be good, yeah.” Sam nodded. I put my foot down on the pedal, playing music while I drove.
“Got some water?” Dean asked, so I gave him a fresh bottle from the side pocket. He sipped it intently. “I love a girl who can drive-“
”Drink your water.” I laughed, turning the wheel while Sam snickered in the back.
“Tell him, Ivonne.” He grinned. “He needs it.”
“Sammy, be nice.” Dean chastised playfully, then turned to me. “When did you start hunting?”
”As soon as I developed magic abilities, which was at 19.” I replied. “Roommate of mine had a vengeful spirit after them. Conveniently, they showed up so I could destroy it.”
“Sounds like a ride.” Sam commented.
“You have no idea.” I laughed. I pulled up at a cafe, parking quickly. I checked myself in the mirror quickly, arranging my hair to look, well, better.
“Who’re you preening for?” Dean scoffed, re-popping his collar and sorting out his hair.
“Who’re you preening for?” I retorted.
“I asked first. Is there a guy in there?”
“Hot barista.” I grinned, taking out a lip gloss and applying it. “He went to my high school.” I opened the car door, getting out and both of them following suit.
“So you’re taken?” Dean joked.
“Dean.” Sam groaned.
“It’s a serious question!”
“Hopefully I will be.” I teased. “Maybe then you’ll get off my back.”
“Kind of hard to do, sweetheart.” Dean winked, giving me the fifth once-over of the day. We went into the cafe, and the barista at the counter smirked once he saw me. His name was Alex, and he had messy brown hair with startling blue eyes, and he was visibly well-built. I walked over to the counter, and he chuckled.
“Ivonne… Hazel… Rainer.” He laughed. “It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen you.”
“Alex Wilde.” I smiled. “I could say the same for you.”
I heard some movement behind me, and Alex’s eyes flickered to Dean and Sam. “Who’re these two? Bodyguards?”
He hit the nail on the head. I giggled, shaking my head. “I wish I was famous enough for bodyguards. This is Sam and Dean.”
“Nice to meet you.” Sam shook Alex’s hand. “I’m Sam.”
“And I’m Dean.” Dean also shook Alex’s hand, a small smirk on his face.
“Alex.” Alex grinned, then turned to me. “Your usual?”
“You know it.” I smiled.
“And you guys?”
“I’ll take a latte.” Sam spoke up.
“I’ll have what the lady’s having.” Dean nodded to me, flashing his signature smirk again.
“Alright, I’ll get that to y’all.” Alex nodded, and we sat down. Dean raised an eyebrow, scoffing as he nodded towards Alex.
“Him? Really?”
“Yes, him.” I shot back.
“He seems nice.” Sam contradicted.
“Exactly!”
“Seems like a wimp.” Dean rolled his eyes.
“Dean, be nice.” Sam chastised.
“I’m saying that Beanie can do better than a barista.”
“A hot barista.” I retorted.
“You can’t argue with that logic.” Sam whistled.
Dean just shook his head.
Tumblr media
I opened the door to my house, letting the boys in and taking off my shoes.
“Sweet joint.” Dean praised while Sam picked up salt from the edge of the room.
“This is where you got your powers taken from you, right?” He deduced, and I nodded, then turned to Dean, who was about to head to the kitchen. I snapped my fingers.
“Hey, ay, ay!” I called, getting his attention. “Shoes off past that point.”
“Really?” He groaned, turning to me.
“Shoes. Off.” I glared at him for a moment, then he conceded, taking his shoes off. Sam did too for good measure, both of them lining it up neatly. I took a piece of paper, writing on it then sticking it above the doorway.
SHOES OFF PAST THIS POINT IF YOU WANNA LIVE :)
- Ivy
”Really, Beanie?” Dean grimaced. “It’s that necessary?”
“My house, my rules.”
“My shoes, my rules.”
“My house is bigger and more expensive.” I mimicked a mic drop, “I’ve got two spare bedrooms so you boys don’t have to suffer sharing the same bed. Settle down, and after a week we’ll go to the impound.”
“Who put you in charge?” Dean argued.
“Common sense did.” I replied smoothly as I walked into the kitchen.
”I gotta say,” Sam quipped, “I agree with common sense.” Dean narrowed his eyes.
“Which side are you on?!”
Tumblr media
We were forward a week, and we’d reached the impound where Dean’s car was stationed. It looked, well, better than before, and Sam was awkwardly standing over him. I think that the prospect of John’s death really hit Dean like a bullet train, because he got grumpier and grumpier as the week went. I guess the momentary laughs were just denial.
“How's the car coming along?” Sam asked, looking down on Dean’s legs, which were the only thing you could see with his torso under the car.
“Slow.” Dean replied coldly. Ouch.
”Yeah? Need any help?”
“What?” He laughed. “You, under a hood? I’ll pass.”
“Need anything else, then?”
“Stop it, Sam.” Dean pushed himself out from under the car, looking agitated. Something seemed to pull a nerve there.
”Stop what?” Sam asked, looking confused.
“Stop asking if I need anything, stop asking if I'm okay. I'm okay. Really. I promise.”
“All right, Dean, it's just... We've been at Ivonne’s for over a week now and you haven't brought up Dad once.”
”You know what? You're right. Come here. I'm gonna lay my head gently on your shoulder. Maybe we can cry, hug, and maybe even slow dance.” Dean scoffed. I frowned, folding my arms.
“Don't patronise me, Dean, Dad is dead. The Colt is gone, and it seems pretty damn likely that the demon is behind all of this, and you're acting like nothing happened.” Sam pleaded.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Say something, all right? Hell, say anything! Aren't you angry? Don't you want revenge? But all you do is sit out here all day long buried underneath this damn car.”
“Revenge, huh?” Dean nodded sceptically, jaw ticking.
“Yeah.”
“Sounds good. You got any leads on where the demon is? Making heads or tails of any of Dad's research? Because I sure ain't. But you know, if we do finally find it - oh. No, wait, like you said. The Colt's gone. But I'm sure you've figured out another way to kill it. We've got nothing, Sam. Nothing, okay? So you know the only thing I can do? Is I can work on the car-“
“Just shut the hell up!” I burst out, slapping my forehead. “I’ve had enough of this, I really have. The tension here is thick enough for me to take a knife and stab right through it. Sam, reflect. Dean, we need to talk.” I took Dean by the collar, dragging him away from Sam while he feebly protested.
“Hey, hey, watch the collar!” He finally swatted my hand away, popping his collar again and then folding his arms. “What?”
“You need to cut the attitude, cause you’re acting like a douche.” I frowned, folding my own. “Your dad died-“
“Yeah, my dad died. What about it?”
“You’re acting strong, Dean.” I sighed. “You’re a stubborn person, I know that, but it doesn’t change the fact that you’re hurting. But so is your brother.”
Dean scoffed, “I’m not hurting-“
“Yes, you are.” I insisted, raising my eyebrows. “It’s so obvious and I know it’s hard to deal, but you can’t shut Sam out like that. He needs your help, even if you don’t realise it.”
“You sound like you’re speaking from experience.” Dean’s eyes narrowed and suddenly I had no voice. I looked down, remaining silent, and he gently took my shoulders, bending down and trying to get me to look at him. “Who died, Ivonne? Talk to me.”
“It’s not important.” I muttered, then turned and walked over to Sam. “He’s gonna be better, I think.”
“Thanks, Ivonne, I…” Sam paused for a moment, “I’ve just never seen him like this and it’s scaring me a bit.”
“I don’t blame you.” I sighed. “He’s acting up and it’s not okay, but he’s visibly hurt by this. I’m gonna try and be there for him and so should you. Even if he doesn’t let you.”
“Makes sense.”
“So,” I spread my arms, “bring it in.” He hugged me tightly, and I patted his back. “It’s gonna be ok, Sam.” We detached, “Now show me whatcha got.”
“This is one of dad's old phones.” He took out a battered phone. “Took me a while, but I cracked his voicemail code. Listen to this.”
“Wait-“ I turned, “DEAN! GET YOUR BUTT OVER HERE!” Dean walked over, and Sam played the voicemail.
‘John, it's Ellen. Again. Look, don't be stubborn, you know I can help you. Call me.’
“That message is four months old.” Sam frowned.
“Dad saved that chick's message for four months?” Dean blinked.
“Yeah.”
”Well, who's Ellen, for starters?” I asked. “Any mention of her in John’s journal?”
“No. But I ran a trace on her phone number and I got an address.”
“Let’s take my car.” I offered, holding up my keys.
“Sounds like a plan.” Dean agreed.
Tumblr media
We approached the Roadhouse Saloon, with Dean at the wheel this time, and he smoothly parked in front. We got out, looking around cautiously.
“Hello?” Sam called, “Anybody here?”
”They will be here soon.” I hissed.
“Just checking!”
“Hey. You bring the, uh…” Dean held out his hand, and Sam searched his pockets.
“Yeah.” He tossed a pickpocketing tool to Dean, who quickly opened the door to the saloon. We crept in, eyes darting around. A light bulb blew out, and there was a man passed out at the bar.
“Hey, buddy?” Sam whispered, and I chuckled.
“I’m guessing that’s not Ellen.” I quipped with a smirk. I went behind the bar, searching for someone. Then I heard a click, a smack and Dean calling out for help.
“Sam! Sammy! I need some help!”
“My hands are tied too.” Sam replied, and I pulled out my gun, flicking down the safety pin. I raised it, moving into the room behind the woman holding a gun to Sam’s head.
“Mine aren’t.” I growled, alerting both the attackers. “Drop your guns and let them go or you’ll both be on the floor faster than you can say ‘hands up’.”
“Wait…” Dean’s attacker popped out from behind him, her eyes widening when she saw me. She had long blonde hair, brown eyes and the most recognisable style I have ever seen. Nobody wears a green tank top and mom jeans and pulls it off that well. “Ivvy?”
“Jo?” I half-laughed, half-exhaled as we both realised who we were dealing with. We stored our guns in our pockets, hugging each other tightly.
“I’m so glad you’re here!”
”I’m so glad I’m here, trust me.”
“I’m confused.” Dean whispered.
“They know each other, Dean.” Sam hissed.
”Should have done a degree in stating the obvious, Sammy.”
”Sam? Dean? Winchester?” Ellen questioned, looking between the two.
“Yeah.” Dean nodded.
“Son of a…”
“Mom, do you know these guys?” Jo asked, detaching herself from me.
“I think these are John Winchester’s boys.”
“They are.” I nodded.
Ellen laughed, lowing her handgun. “Hey, I'm Ellen. This is my daughter Jo.”
Dean flashed his signature smirk at Jo, who smiled back. “Hey.” He grinned.
“Hey.” She replied, looking bashful.
“You’re not gonna hit me again, are you?”
”Here you go.” Ellen offered Dean a towel with ice, which he accepted.
“Thanks.”
“Good one. I’ve been waiting to do that.” I whispered to Jo, who giggled.
”You called our dad, said you could help. Help with what?”
“Well, the demon, of course. I heard he was closing in on it.” Ellen said candidly.
“What, was there an article in the Demon Hunters Quarterly that I missed?” Dean scoffed. “I mean, who-who are you? How do you know about all this?”
”Hey, I just run a saloon. But hunters have been known to pass through now and again. Including your dad a long time ago. John was like family once.”
“Oh yeah? How come he never mentioned you?”
“You’d have to ask him that.”
“So why exactly do we need your help?”
“Hey, don't do me any favors. Look, if you don't want my help, fine. Don't let the door smack your butt on the way out. But John wouldn't have sent you if...” She trailed off, eyes widening, “he didn’t send you. He's all right, isn't he?“
“No. No, he isn't. It was the demon, we think.” Sam stammered. “It, um, it just got him before he got it, I guess.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“It’s ok. We’re ok.” Dean coughed.
“No, he is not.” I muttered.
”Really? I know how close you and your dad were.”
“Really, lady, we’re fine.” Dean growled through gritted teeth.
“‘Course you are.” I tutted.
“Ivonne.”
“So look, if you can help, we could use all the help we can get.” Sam pleaded.
“Well, we can't.” Ellen stated. “But Ash will.”
“Who’s Ash?” I blinked.
“ASH!” The sleeping man at the bar woke up, flailing his arms.
“I’m up, I’m up! Is it closing time?” Ash slurred.
“That’s Ash?” Sam coughed.
“Delightful.” I grimaced.
”Mhmm. He’s a genius.” Jo convinced, but I wasn’t as much as she was. She started pouring glasses of water, while Ellen slapped a folder on the table. Sam sat down, leaving Dean and I to stand.
“You've gotta be kidding me, this guy's no genius.” Dean groaned. “He's a Lynyrd Skynyrd roadie.”
“Shut your pie hole.” I snapped.
“I like you.” Ash chuckled, pointing to me.
”Thanks.”
“Just give him a chance.” Jo sighed. Dean resigned, sitting down.
“All right.” Dean cleared his throat. “This stuff's about a year's worth of our dad's work, so uh, let's see what you make of it.”
“Come on. This stuff ain't real.” Ash scoffed. “There ain't nobody can track a demon like this.”
“Their dad could.” I retorted.
“There are non-parametrics, statistical overviews, prospects and correlations, I mean.. damn!” Ash exclaimed. “They're signs. Omens. Uh, if you can track 'em, you can track this demon. You know, like crop failures, electrical storms... You ever been struck by lightning? It ain't fun.”
“Can you track it or not?” Sam groaned.
“Yeah, with this, I think so. But it's gonna take time, uh, give me…” Ash clicked his tongue, “fifty one hours.” He then got up to leave.
”Hey, man?” Dean piped up.
“Yeah?”
“I, uh, dig the haircut.” It was an odd haircut, I’ll give him that.
“All business up front, party in the back.” He left, and I turned to Ellen.
“It’s nice to see you again, Ivvy.” Ellen smiled, passing me a beer.
“Same to you, El.” I grinned. “Haven’t felt this at home in ages.”
“How’re you feeling after Danny?” She asked, and I kissed my teeth, thinking.
“Better than I was. Until the Devil took my powers.”
“He did what?!” She slammed the table. “Evil little son of a-“
“Ok, ok!” I chuckled, “It’s fine. I’m survivin’.”
“He shouldn’t.” Ellen growled. “I remember when you were just a girl. Sweetest thing I’ve ever met. These powers corrupted you, but that demon’s going to do worse.”
“Yeah, I get that.” I sighed, looking down.
“I think Jo’s free from Dean, go catch up.” I immediately got up, going over to Jo and hugging her again.
“What’s this about your powers gone?” She asked, and I showed her the rune.
“Gone until the demon dies or I find a ‘drop of love’.” I scoffed.
“What’s that?”
“That’s what I’m trying to figure out.”
“I’m sure you will.” She patted my shoulder. “By the way, this Dean pal of yours was flirting with me.”
“Pay no attention to him.” I laughed. “He does that with me too. He puts on a Jerry Maguire act for nothing.”
“He’s that kind of guy, got it.” She giggled.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t mess with him if I were you.” I joked.
”Hey, Beanie!” Dean called, and I whipped around.
“What?” I snapped back.
“Beanie?” Jo whisper-giggled.
”Short story.”
“C’mere!” Dean yelled again, and I walked over to the two.
“Whaddya want from me?” I groaned, sitting down.
“Very courteous, Beanie.”
“Forgive me, Your Majesty.” I drawled. “Sammy, what’re we doing?”
“Murders, not far from here.” Sam replied, showing me the file.
“Well, we should probably check that out.” I clicked my tongue.
“That’s what I told Ellen we’d do.”
Tumblr media
“You've gotta be kidding me. A killer clown?” Dean groaned as he drove my Chevrolet Corvette, Sam in the back with me with the case.
“Yeah. He left the daughter unharmed and killed the parents. Ripped them to pieces, actually.” Sam exhaled sharply.
“And this family was at some carnival that night?”
“Right, right. Uh, the Cooper Carnivals.”
“So how do you know we're not dealing with some psycho carnie in a clown suit?”
“Well, the cops have no viable leads, and all the employees were tearing down shop.” I explained, looking through sheafs of evidence. “Alibis all around. Plus this girl said she saw a clown vanish into thin air. Cops are saying trauma, of course.”
“Well, I know what you're thinking, Sam.” Dean smirked. “Why did it have to be clowns?”
”Oh, give me a break.” Sam groaned.
“You didn't think I'd remember, did you? I mean, come on, you still burst out crying whenever you see Ronald McDonald on the television.”
“At least I’m not afraid of flying.”
“Planes crash!”
“And apparently clowns kill!”
“And so will I in a second!” I cut in, silencing them both.
“I’d rather take the plane.” Dean gulped.
“And me the clown.” Sam whispered.
“Thank you.” I smiled briefly. “So these types of murders, did they ever happen before?”
“Uh, a-according to the file, 1981, the Bunker Brothers Circus, same M.O. It happened three times, three different locales.” Sam stammered.
“It's weird, though, I'm mean if it is a spirit it's usually bound to a specific locale, you know, a house, or a town.” Dean frowned, so I pulled a book out of my satchel, flicking through.
“So how’s this one travelling?”
“Cursed object, perhaps.” I shrugged, “Spirit attaches itself to something and the carnival carries it around with them. Unlikely, but plausible.”
”Great, paranormal scavenger hunt.” Sam grimaced.
“Well, this case was your idea.” Dean retorted. “By the way, why is that? You were awfully quick to jump on this job.”
”So?”
“It's just... not like you, that's all. I thought you were hell-bent for leather on the demon hunt.”
”I don't know, I just think, this job, it's what Dad would have wanted us to do.”
“What Dad would’ve wanted?”
“Yeah? So?” Sam sassed.
“Nothin’.”
Geez.
Tumblr media
We pulled up at the carnival, where the police already were.
“Watch out.” Dean whistled. “Five-o’s.”
”You’ll be fine.” I assured. “Don’t make a scene, keep your head down and keep walking.”
”Knowing Dean, that’s not gonna happen.” Sam grimaced as we all got out of the car.
“Ever since she came, you two have been ganging up on me.” Dean grumped.
“That’s cause I finally get to have a conversation with someone who has common sense.”
”I’m proud not to have common sense, Sammy. I own my flaws.”
”Never say that again.” I laughed.
“Try me, Beanie.” Dean smirked, whipping my beanie off my head and jamming it onto his own. Sam ran his fingers through my hair a bit, tidying it up, and I gave him a small smile, combing my fingers in the same direction. A three-foot tall clown went by, and Sam stared at it, nervous, and she stared back as well before walking into the distance. “Did you get her number?”
Sam scowled, looking like a six year old. “More murders?”
“Twice recently.” I explained. “Ripped to shreds, and a little boy survived, and he was with them.”
“Who fingered a clown.” Sam finished, getting a weird look from Dean. “What?”
“So, a clown who just apparently vanished into thin air.” Dean raised an eyebrow.
“Dean, you know, looking for a cursed object is like trying to find a needle in a stack of needles. They could be anything.”
“It’s going to give off EMF.” I mused.
“So we’ll just scan everything.” Dean added optimistically.
“Oh, good, that's nice and... inconspicuous.” Sam sighed.
“We can blend in.” I smirked, gesturing to the ‘Help Wanted’ sign conveniently placed near us. We ventured inside, spotting a man with sunglasses throwing knives on a target, but they didn’t quite hit bullseye.
“Excuse me, we're looking for a Mr. Cooper, have you seen him around?” Dean asked him, and the man turned around.
“Is that some kinda joke?” He took off his sunglasses, and his eyes had cataracts. Oh damn, he was blind.
”Oh. God, I'm-I'm sorry.”
“You think I wouldn't give my eyeteeth to see Mr. Cooper? Or a sunset, or anything at all?” The blind man growled.
“Wanna give me some help here?” Dean whispered to Sam.
“No, not really.” Sam whispered back.
“Hey man, is there a problem?” A short guy appeared, looking up at Dean with a suspicious expression.
Trouble’s coming.
I draped my hair over one shoulder, undid a few of my top buttons, took a tube of lip gloss and touched up my makeup. I dumped my scarf on Sam, who gave me a questioning look.
“Yeah, this guy hates blind people.” The blind man grumbled.
”Do you have a problem?” The man asked Dean.
Dean chuckled nervously. “No, it’s just a little misunderstanding.”
“Little?! Son of a-“
“Come on, boys, let’s not fight.” I interrupted, gaining the three men’s attention.
“Who’s she?” Blind man barked. “She sounds pretty.”
“She is pretty.” Short man replied with a smirk.
“I’m flattered.” I laughed, faking it. God, this was demeaning. “Now, my friends and I don’t want any trouble. We’re just looking for Mr Cooper. D’you know where to find him?”
“Follow me, sweetheart.” We followed the short man, and Dean regrouped with Sam and I.
“What the hell?” Dean whispered. “I’m trying to make amends for accidentally offending someone and you just pout your lips?”
“Perks of being a woman.” I smirked, patting Dean’s shoulder. “It’s easy to charm a man who hasn’t known a woman’s touch in ages.”
“That was genius.” Sam chuckled.
“I know.” We reached the door to Mr Cooper’s office, and we were let in.
“Mr Cooper?” The short man asked. “You got three new recruits.” We walked in and saw Mr Cooper at his desk. There were three chairs, and one with a clown painted on it. Sam sat down gingerly, while Dean sat looking smug.
“You boys, and lady, picked a hell of a time to join up.” Cooper grunted.  “We've got all kinds of local trouble.”
“What do you mean?” Dean frowned.
“Oh, a couple of folks got themselves murdered.” He waved his hand. “Cops always seem to start here first. So, you two ever worked the circuit before?”
“Yes sir, last year through Texas and Arkansas.”
“Doing what? Ride jockies? Butcher? ANS men?”
“Just a little bit of everything, I guess.” Sam shrugged.
“You lot have never done a show in your lives, have you?”
“No, we have not, sir.” I admitted. “But my brothers and I do need the money.” I saw a twitch of surprise in Dean’s face, but he masked it pretty well.
“You see that picture? That's my daddy.” Cooper pointed to a picture.
“You look just like him, Mr Cooper.”
“He was in the business. Ran a freakshow. Till they outlawed them, most places. Apparently displaying the deformed isn't dignified. So most of the performers went from honest work to rotting in hospitals and asylums. That's progress. I guess. You see, this place, it's a refuge for outcasts. Always has been. For folks that don't fit in nowhere else. But you two? You should go to school. Find a couple of girls. Have two point five kids. Live regular.” Cooper turned to me, “And you, little lady, should build a life of your own. You three’re no outcasts.”
“You’d be surprised.” I laughed.
Sam leaned forward, serious. “Sir? We don't want to go to school. And we don't want regular. We want this.”
Tumblr media
“You got assistant manager?” Dean scoffed, picking up rubbish. “How?”
“Perks of being a woman. And downsides of being a man who hasn’t known a woman’s touch in many decades.” I winked. We both got a phone call, so we picked up. “Hello?”
‘Hey, guys.’
“What’s up, Sammy? You sound like you saw a clown.” Dean frowned.
‘Very funny. Skeleton, actually.’
“Are we talking real human bones?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.
‘In the funhouse. Listen, I was thinking. What if the spirit isn't attached to a cursed object -- what if it's attached to its own remains?’
”Does it give off EMF?” Dean and I asked at the same time.
‘Well, no, but-’
“We’ll check it out anyway.” I nodded.
“We’re coming to you, Sammy.” Dean said before cutting the call. “Did you have to say that at the same time?”
“Not my fault we think the same way.” I grinned, taking my beanie off Dean and ruffling his hair before pulling it over my head.
“Bug off.”
“Make me.” I teased before walking off. I reached Sam, tapping him on the shoulder. “Whatcha got?”
”Nothing.” He shoved his hands in his pockets. “Nothing gives off EMF yet.”
“It will.” I assured. “Just gotta keep your patience.”
“Easy for you to say.”
“Hey! It’s hard work, being hit on by a short man!”
“Fine, fine.” Dean approached us, looking grumpy. “What took you so long?”
“Long story.”
”Mommy, look at the clown!” We heard a little girl giggle, pointing to nowhere.
“What clown?” Her mother asked, looking around, then she took the girl’s hand. “Come on, sweetie.”
We exchanged a look; something was up.
Tumblr media
”What I want to know,” I whispered angrily, “is why you told Papazian about the killer ghost clown.” We were on a stakeout at the girl’s house, just waiting.
“I told him an urban legend about a homicidal phantom clown. I never said it was real.” Dean shrugged. He cocked a gun, but Sam slapped it down.
”Keep that down!” Sam hissed.
“Oh, and get this. I mentioned the Bunker Brother's Circus in '81 and their, uh, evil clown apocalypse? Guess what.”
“What?”
“Before Mr. Cooper owned Cooper Carnival, he worked for Bunker Brothers. He was their lot manager.”
“So Cooper brought the spirit with him?” I mused.
”Something like that.” Dean shook his head, sighing. “I can't believe we keep talking about clowns.”
“Nobody can.” I grimaced. “Alright, let’s keep watch. Nobody close their eyes.”
Dean fell asleep.
At around midnight, we saw the girl go over to the door, opening it. “Wanna come and play?” The clown entered with her, and we jolted Dean awake, dragging him with us. We broke in, waiting in the hallway. “Wanna see Mommy and Daddy? They're upstairs.” As soon as the clown and the girl came in sight, I rushed forward, taking her out of the clown’s grip. She started screaming, but I loosened my grip.
“I’m not going to hurt you.” I whispered. She quietened down, but then Dean shot the clown and she hugged me, crying.
“Dean, watch out!” Sam yelled, and the clown escaped.
“I’ve got you.” I murmured, stroking the girl’s back. “Don’t worry.”
”What's going on here?” The father ran down the stairs, his eyes widening when he saw his daughter hugging me. “Get away from my-“
Her mother ran down too, gasping. “Oh my god, what are you doing to my daughter?!”
“Who the hell are you? Get out! Get out of my house!” Sam and Dean fled, but I breathed shakily, frozen for a moment.
“Mommy, Daddy, the man shot my clown!” The girl cried, then pointed to me. “She saved me!”
“You saved my daughter.” The mother sobbed, hugging me. “Thank you.”
“How can we repay you?” The dad asked, picking his daughter up.
“I- you don’t n-need to.” I stammered. “I know what it’s like to not be protected when you need it. My parents weren’t exactly there, so she’s lucky to have you.”
“We’re lucky that you were there.” The mother smiled.
Tumblr media
And that’s how I ended up leaving with food.
I trudged over to the car, where Dean and Sam were waiting.
“Where were you?” Sam sighed in relief upon seeing me, unfolding his arms.
“We couldn’t get in cause you have the keys!” Dean grumped.
“Can I console you with food?” I held up the food, and they stared at me.
“Uh… how? Why?”
“The little girl told her parents that I saved her from you two.” I chuckled nervously. “They asked me how they could repay me and I told them they didn’t have to, but they sent me with food and a large flask of cocoa.”
“Beanie, I’ve never appreciated you so much until this day.” Dean grinned.
“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?”
“Do you think they got the plate?” Dean asked while munching on a sandwich.
“Nope.” I smirked. “Covered the plate when we got here. Then I whipped it off before we left, so it’s unlikely they saw anything. But I’ve been thinking. One thing's for sure.”
“What is?” Sam asked, also eating a sandwich.
”We're not dealing with a spirit. I mean, that rock salt hit something solid.”
“Yeah, a person? Or maybe a creature that can make itself invisible?”
“Yeah, and dresses up like a clown for kicks?” Dean scoffed. “Did it say anything in Dad's journal?”
Sam flicked through it, eyebrows furrowed. “Nope.”
I pulled out my phone, dialling a number and holding it to my ear.
“Who’re you callin’?” Dean asked.
“Jo.” I replied, getting out of the car, then she picked the call up.
‘Hello?’
“Hey, Jo, it’s Ivvy.”
‘Oh, hey! Whatcha need?’
”The boys and I just finished a stakeout at a girl’s house because she came into contact with the clown. Dean shot it, but it was solid. Is Ash back with his evidence?”
‘Yeah. Lemme pass the phone to him.’
’Hey, pretty lady.’
’Ash!’
’I’m kidding! Anyway, I think what you’re lookin’ for is called a Rakshasa. An ancient demon from Hindu mythology. It takes on a human form, feeds on human flesh and can’t enter a home unless invited. They sleep on a bed of dead insects and wake up around every twenty to thirty years. Sounds accurate.’
“How do you kill it?”
‘Blade made of pure brass. That’s our best guess.’ Ellen cut in. ‘If it’s right, you’re welcome; if it’s wrong, see you on the other side.’
“I’ll make sure to tell you if it worked.” I laughed. “Alright, see you guys.”
‘Bye!’ I cut the call, climbing back in. Dean and Sam looked grumpier, and I raised my eyebrow.
“Did you two fight again?”
“No.” Dean grumbled, and I turned to Sam.
“Sammy?”
“No.” He replied a lot more civilly.
“The moment I leave.” I grimaced.
”What did Ellen say?” Sam asked.
“What we’re looking for, they said, might be a Rakshasa. Ellen's best guess. It's a race of ancient Hindu creatures. They appear in human form, they feed on human flesh, they can make themselves invisible, and they cannot enter a home without first being invited.“
“So they dress up like clowns, and the children invite 'em in.” Dean mused.
“Pretty much sums it up.”
“Why don't they just munch on the kids?”
“Not enough meat on the bones?” Sam theorised.
“What else did you find out?”
“A Rakshasa sleeps on a bed of dead insects and wakes up to feed every twenty to thirty years.”
“Well, that makes sense.” Dean nodded. “I mean, the Carnival today, the Bunker Brothers in '81.”
“Probably more before that.” Sam breathed.
“Who do we know that worked both shows, boys?” I smirked.
“Cooper.”
“Cooper.” Dean added.
“You know, that picture of his father, that looked just like him.”
“What if it is him?”
“Can’t rule it out.” I shrugged. “Who knows how old he is?”
“Ellen say how to kill him?”
“Legend says a dagger made of pure brass.”
“I know where to get one of those.”
”Well, before we go stabbing things into Cooper, we're going to want to make damn sure it's him.” Sam frowned.
“You’re such a stickler for details, Sammy.” Dean teased, making Sam smile. “All right, I'll round up the blade, Beanie, you’ll keep watch and you go check if Cooper's got bedbugs.”
“Sounds like a plan.” I grinned, patting them on the shoulders.
“Let’s do this.”
Tumblr media
I waited outside, one hand on the gun in my jacket, maybe as reassurance that it was still there.
“Look, Mommy, it’s her!” I heard, and the little girl ran up to me, paired with her parents.
“Hey, uh, didn’t expect to see you guys again.” I chuckled nervously, raising my hand.
“And we never got your name.” Her mother smiled while I shook her father’s hand.
“My name’s, um, Lily.” I lied, thinking quickly. “Lily Carter.”
“I’m Audrey Teyman.” She introduced. “This is my husband James, and this little girl is also Lily.” My breath caught in my throat, but I stomached it, bending down to Lily.
“You’re a Lily too, huh?” I smiled.
”Yeah!” She giggled. “You’re just like me.”
“Yeah, I’m just like you.” I heard some yelling, so I had to think quickly again. “Tell you what?” I pulled out some money and gave it to her. “Spend it on anything you want. But not too much sweets, you get me?”
“Yeah!”
“Pinky promise?” I held out my little finger and she wrapped hers around mine before giving me a hug. I stood up to face her parents.
“You’re too generous.” James smiled.
“It’s nothin’.” I shook my head. “Now you go, Lily, and spend that money right, okay?”
“Okay!” Lily gave me a toothy grin.
“We’d better get going. It was lovely meeting you again, Miss Carter.” They left, and I immediately ran to the source of the commotion.
“Dean!” I yelled, trying the door handle.
“Beanie, thank god!” Dean shouted from the inside, and I shot the door handle, opening it just in time for Dean to tumble out.
“Are you ok?!”
“I wouldn’t be if you hadn’t stepped in.” He leaned his forehead against mine, a relieved grin on his face, but his eyes were closed.
“Dean! Ivonne!” Sam ran up to us, and we both got up, walking over.
“Sammy!”
”So, Cooper thinks I'm a Peeping Tom, but it's not him.”
“We’ve figured that part out. It’s the blind guy. He's here somewhere.”
“Did you get the brass blades?”
“No, no, it’s been one of those days.”
“We can’t have one of those days.” I grimaced. “We’re probably now on the Rakshasa’s most wanted list. We have to kill it.”
“I’ve got an idea.” Sam nodded, “Follow me.” We ran to the funhouse, and when we were there I pulled out my gun. “Dean, Ivonne, find the maze, now!” We ran in, my gun held up while I heard every single sound around me.
“Can you stop walking so loud?!” I whispered to Dean, who stopped.
“I’m heavy footed!” He argued quietly.
“Our lives are on the line here!”
“Fine!” We found the maze and came back to Sam.
“Where is it?” Sam asked frantically.
“I don’t know.” Dean fretted. “Will we see its clothes when it’s walking around, or..?”
“Probably not.” I frowned, then a knife flew past Dean, pinning his sleeve to the wall. Another pinned his wrist to the wall.
“Sam!” Sam pulled the pipe off the wall, stalking around slowly. Then a knife almost chipped him in the head, but he dodged in time.
“Dean, where is it?” Sam called.
“I don’t know!” A knife flew through the air, and I felt a sharp pain in my stomach, followed by my body reacting to absorb the shock. I held my hand to my stomach, and when I drew it back, I saw blood.
A knife was in my stomach.
“Beanie!” Dean yelled, then pulled a lever, making steam gush out of the organ and show the outline of the body.
“Over here!” I held up my hand and caught the pipe, sticking it as far as I could into the Rakshasa. It bled, and slowly disappeared, while I collapsed onto the floor and sat against the wall, leaning my head against it. Dean got the knives off his sleeves and rushed over to me, both brothers kneeling down.
“Don’t you close your eyes, Ivonne.” Dean ordered, tilting my head up to face him. “Don’t you dare.”
”We’ll get you an ambulance.” Sam fretted, trying to assess the wound.
“Im not closing my eyes anytime soon.” I coughed, wincing a little at the pain. “I’ll be damned and given a one way ticket to hell if I do.”
“You’re not going there.” Dean assured. “I ain’t gonna let you.”
”So considerate.” I smirked.
“So mouthy, even with a knife in you.”
”Knife wounds won’t stop me from getting a dig in.”
Tumblr media
”I was kind of hopin’ that you’d stay back.” Jo smiled giving me a once over. “Are you gonna be okay?”
“Of course.” I chuckled. “I’ve got these two knuckleheads.”
“Those two knuckleheads couldn’t save you from a flying knife.”
“One was trapped by one, the other dodging one. I can only blame my reflexes.”
“Just be careful out there.” Ellen chastised, handing me some bandages. “I wouldn’t want a knife to hit your heart next time.”
“I guarantee you, Ellen, there’s no way in hell I’d let that happen.”
“But we’re not in hell.” She frowned. “I’ve known you since you were a newborn, Ivonne. What happened to your family was terrible, and it could happen again.”
“I think this time is different.” I smiled. “If not, I know who to call.”
“You better.” Jo hugged me. “I’ll be waiting everyday. If you won’t call me for a while, I’m busting down your door and I’m gonna kill those two myself.”
“Jo, that’s my job.” I joked, inciting a laugh. “I’ll be fine.”
“Oh, I’ve got something to give you.” Ellen hurried to her drawer, taking out a necklace. “It was your father’s gift to your mother when they didn’t start becoming so… distant. I think it’d look wonderful on you.” I took it, admiring the shimmering green stone.
“It would. Thanks, Ellen.”
”No problem.”
Tumblr media
A day later, I was told that I’d be fine, so we were back at my house. Dean and Sam insisted that I stayed in bed while they brought me food and breakfast, but I did have to get in some walking.
“Knock knock.” Sam grinned.
“Hey, Sammy.” I smiled, sitting up a bit. “C’mon in.”
Sam sat down next to me, looking intently. “How have you been?”
”I could be worse.” I chuckled. “Dude was good at his craft.”
”He was.” Pause. “But there’s something else.”
“What is it?” I frowned.
”What you said to Dean stuck with me. I’m not closing my eyes anytime soon. I’ll be damned and given a one-way ticket to hell if I do.” He repeated. “It seemed so genuine. Did something happen to you or someone in your family?”
”That’s a story for another day.” I refused politely. “For now, all I can say is that it’s my fault.”
”I don’t think it was.” Sam smiled, then kissed me on the forehead. “G’night, Ivonne.”
”Call me Ivy, Sammy.” I offered.
”G’night, Ivy.”

A Good Day for Death (Book 1) Chapter Five
Wednesday Addams x Reaper! Reader
Chapter Five: A Good Day for Strategy
Summary: Wednesday sneaks around Rowan's dorm, Enid faces a crisis with her Poe Cup team, and (Y/N) does their best to help.
While (Y/N) needed to finish homework, Wednesday was determined to further her investigation. She hadn’t managed to figure anything out about Rowan from Xavier, so now she needed to go to the next possible source: their dorm. Hopefully, the book was there. She waited outside the window until Xavier walked into the restroom for a post-exercise shower and then slipped inside.
Thing rummaged through Rowan’s items, and Wednesday thumbed through Xavier’s belongings as well in case Rowan had tried to hide it where people would last suspect, someone else’s possessions. Wednesday ended on Xavier’s sketchbook and found that not only did Xavier have a sketch of the exact gargoyle that nearly killed her and (Y/N), but there was a sketch of her. Wednesday frowned but turned away. She turned out the lights and scanned a blacklight over Rowan’s stripped bed. If she could find blood or strange chemicals, it would prove that something was off about the situation.
Crouching down, she scanned beneath the bed and found fingerprints. Tracing their direction, she found a board in the floor that could be opened. Wednesday pulled it up and pulled out a mask. It wasn’t what she was looking for, but a strange feathered mask was promising of something happening.
“Rowan’s full of surprises,” she said. Her eyes snapped to the bathroom door as the doorknob turned and a knock sounded at the door. Wednesday dove under Xavier’s bed as he exited in a t-shirt and sweats and opened the door to reveal Bianca.
“You’re not supposed to be up here,” said Xavier, pulling Bianca into his dorm.
“Good to see you too,” huffed Bianca.
“How’d you get past the Housemaster? Use your siren powers?” asked Xavier.
“Not while wearing this,” said Bianca, gesturing to her pendant that dampened her abilities to nearly nil. “Would it kill you to not think the worst of me for once?”
“What do you want, Bianca?” sighed Xavier, sitting down on his bed as Wednesday listened from beneath.
“To see how you’re doing,” said Bianca. “I’m sorry about Rowan. I know you guys used to be close.”
“Since when did you give a damn about Rowan?” scoffed Xavier.
“You were the one afraid he’d do something to (Y/N) and Wednesday,” said Bianca.  “Is that why you’ve been following Wednesday like a lost puppy? Or is there something more?” she questioned. “Seriously, what do you see in her? You have a thing for tragic goth girls with funeral-parlor fashion sense? I hardly think (Y/N) is a reason you’d get so involved. Sure, they’re…sweet, for a literal bad omen, but they’re nothing special.”
“Maybe it’s because Wednesday hasn’t tried to manipulate me,” said Xavier coldly.
“I make one mistake, and you can’t forgive me,” scoffed Bianca. “She treats you like crap; you can’t get enough.”
“Why are you fixated on Wednesday?” questioned Xavier.
“Because she thinks she’s better than everyone else!” cried Bianca.
Wednesday couldn’t deny she did indeed believe that she was better than Bianca. She thought that was obvious.
“I can’t wait to crush Ophelia Hall tomorrow and watch the werewolf roommate crumble. The look on her face seeing me a winner will be priceless.” Bianca shrugged with a smirk. “And I guess seeing (Y/N) disappointed will be a fun, too. Wipe the smile off their face. It’s going to be a Poe Cup to remember.”
“I hate to think what you’ve got planned,” said Xavier.
“My game’s already started,” said Bianca proudly. “I like to win. Is that so wrong?”
Wednesday and Thing looked at each other. Wednesday admired a certain amount of cunning, but Bianca enjoyed beating Wednesday too much. She couldn’t have Bianca succeed here.
“And you wonder why I broke up with you,” said Xavier.
“You used to love my killer instinct,” said Bianca. She linked their hands. “We were good together, Xavier.”
“Were we?” questioned Xavier. “Or is that just how you wanted me to feel?”
Bianca frowned and stepped back. “Trust me, Wednesday Addams is not the girl of your dreams. She’s the stuff of your nightmares.”
And Wednesday was quite proud of that. In fact, she was going to become Bianca’s nightmare.
She was going to enjoy this.
l
“I’m sure you’ll figure something out and win against Bianca,” said (Y/N), trying to comfort Enid, who was crying on her bed.
“What’s happened this time?” asked Wednesday as she pushed open the window and entered only to be accosted with tears.
“Yoko’s in the infirmary!” cried Enid despairingly. “And so is Elise! Garlic bread incident at dinner.” She buried herself in her pile of squishmallows.
(Y/N) nodded and looked at Wednesday. “They got pretty bad allergic reactions and can’t compete tomorrow in the Poe Cup. Enid doesn’t know what to do. She doesn’t have a copilot and is missing another rower.”
“It wasn’t an accident,” said Wednesday. “Bianca’s behind it.”
“How do you know?” asked (Y/N). They suspected she had been sneaking around, but they were curious on how she managed to spy on Bianca.
“Doesn’t matter,” said Wednesday. “We’re going to take her down tomorrow.”
Enid jumped up from her bed. “You’re joining the Black Cats?! You’re willing to do that.” She stepped towards Wednesday happily, but Wednesday stepped backwards. “For me?”
“I want to humiliate Bianca so badly that the bitter taste of defeat burns in her throat,” said Wednesday darkly.
“Yeah, but mostly you’re doing it because we’re friends, right?” asked Enid. Wednesday didn’t reply, and Enid sighed. “Fine. Okay. So I have a copilot. Now I just need a rower.”
“(Y/N),” said Wednesday. “Bianca insulted you.”
“She does that to a lot of people,” said (Y/N), shrugging.
“She wants to wipe the smile off your face and said you were nothing special, just a bad omen,” quoted Wednesday.
“That’s incredibly specific,” muttered (Y/N), uncomfortable with their insecurities being pointed out so cruelly by Bianca even behind their back.
“Are you going to let her get away with that?” questioned Wednesday.
(Y/N) bit their lip and finally sighed. “I did say it was time to take her down a few pegs. So let’s stick it to Bianca.”
Enid cheered. “Yes! Both my roommates are breaking out of their shells!”
(Y/N) smiled. “I’ll try to be bad luck for the other team.”
“We don’t need luck. We’re going to beat Bianca at her own game,” said Wednesday. She looked intently at Enid and (Y/N). “Tell me how she keeps winning.”
Enid shrugged. “It’s a real brain cramp. The past two years, no other boat has made it across and back without sinking.”
“Sounds like sabotage,” said Wednesday as she considered her options.
“No such thing as cheating in Poe Cup,” pointed out (Y/N). “Anything goes as long as it doesn’t kill other players. Not to mention, Bianca has the advantage since we’re on water and she’s a siren.”
Wednesday narrowed her eyes. “Then we have to play to our strengths as well. We’re going to need claws.” She looked at (Y/N). “And we need your bad luck.”
(Y/N) considered. “I could ruin my reputation as being careful all for a win against Bianca.” They grinned. “Sounds like a pretty good exchange.”
Wednesday nodded sharply. “Good.” She looked at Enid. “Get your team. We have some work to do.”
Enid nearly jumped up and down in excitement as she ran to the door. “I can’t wait to shove this in Bianca’s face!”
“We better win. We’ll never hear the end of it if we lose now,” said (Y/N). “And it’ll be fun to win against Bianca.”
“It’s high time for her to see who she’s dealing with,” said Wednesday with fierce determination.
“You sure you can trust me not to drain anything?” asked (Y/N).
            “I’m counting on it.”
l
(Y/N) finished pulling on their Black Cats costume and ears before ducking out of the tent. “We all set?” they asked Enid and Wednesday, both in their outfits as well.
“One moment!” Enid pulled out eyeliner and grabbed (Y/N)’s face with friendly aggression. She traced whiskers onto (Y/N) cheeks and grinned before pulling back. “You are purr-fect!” she chirped.
“Thanks,” said (Y/N), touching their sore cheeks gingerly. They grinned at Wednesday. “You get away without it?”
“That particular cat would have lost a life if she tried that with me,” said Wednesday.
(Y/N) grinned, entertained by the answer. Enid huffed playfully. “If you two are done ganging up on me, let’s get down to the canoes. It’s time for the race to start.” Seeing Wednesday’s piercing gaze, Enid continued, “Don’t worry, everything’s ready.”
            Wednesday nodded. “Thing’s in position.”
“I practiced slowly draining some roses earlier,” said (Y/N). “It wasn’t great, but I did my best.”
            “Focus on weakening,” said Wednesday.
(Y/N) nodded. Enid might be the pilot, but Wednesday is in charge. I don’t mind, though. Wednesday knows what she’s doing.
“Let’s go,” said Wednesday.
They walked down to the canoe and got in. (Y/N) took a deep breath and picked up their oar. Some of the sirens, because, of course, Bianca had chosen other girls from her dorm that would do well on water, hissed at them, but (Y/N) did their best impression of a deadly Wednesday-glare to get them to back off. Enid waved at her near-boyfriend.
            “Focus,” reminded Wednesday sharply.
From the same boat as Ajax, Xavier looked over at Wednesday. She caught his eye and focused back on the water before them.
“What do we have here?” jeered Bianca, deciding to speak up herself. “The runt of the litter and the bad luck charm.”
“For the record, I don’t believe I’m better than everyone else. Just that I’m better than you,” said Wednesday pointedly.
“And the only bad luck you have to worry about is the one I’m bringing to your team,” added (Y/N), smirking.
Bianca furrowed her brow in confusion. She had no idea how the pair knew the exact words she had used against them the night before. But it did make her more intent on beating them.
On the green lawn of Nevermore, Weems cleared her throat and spoke into the microphone. “I want to welcome you all to the Edgar Allan Poe Cup. This is one of Nevermore’s proudest annual traditions, dating back 125 years,” announced Weems. “Each team must row across to Raven Island, pull a flag from Crackstone’s Crypt, and hustle back without sinking or being sunk. First team to cross the finish line with their flag wins the cup and bragging rights for a year, as well as some special privileges.” She raised the starting gun into the air. “Let the Poe Cup begin!”
The shot rang out through the air, and the canoes were off.

A leadership camp was the absolute last place that Jamie wanted to spend any part of her summer. She and Sirius had made plans to go white water rafting, concert hoping, castle hiking, dive bar hunting and he’d even promised to attend a total of four sperate ballets with her. She did not have time to spend a week in the middle of the Scottish hills singing camp songs with a bunch of people that she didn’t know.
She didn’t need a leadership camp. She was, as almost every single one of her teachers and professors had said, a natural born leader. Some of her teachers had said this with admiration coloring their tone, and others had said it in a ‘your daughter really needs to stop getting the entire class to break into song in the middle of third period’ kind of way, but either way, they had all been in agreement.
She took the bus to camp so she would be less inclined to run off in the middle of it, and she went to the main building to sign in, which she was informed would be hence forth called ‘command center.’ She refrained from rolling her eyes.
She accepted her key and went off to find her dorm with her yellow duffle bag resting on her hip. Since they were all adults, they weren’t making them sleep in groups of twenty or so, and were instead grouped into fours. Jamie’s cabin was number five, which was her lucky number, and so far the only good omen she had gotten from this place.
She knocked before she pushed the cabin door open. Two of her three bunkmates were already there, setting up their beds. A redhead with striking green eyes and a petite brunette with springy hair and a gorgeous smattering of freckles. Jamie smiled at the two of them and they smiled back.
“Hey! My name is Lily,” The redhead held out her hand, bold and assertive. Jamie didn’t think she was in much need of a leadership camp either. “This here is my best friend, Mary.”
“Lily and Mary, it’s nice to meet you both. I’m Jamie.” She pulled her duffle off her shoulder and claimed the open bottom bunk. “Are you best mates in the camp sense, or have you met before today?”
Mary laughed, “Best friends since we were eleven. I dragged Lily along to this camp because I’m incapable of leaving home without her.”
“And it sounded like fun!” Lily added, looking back at her curly haired friend. “Did you know that this camp has a ropes course?” She asked, turning back to Jamie.
“A rope course? And that sounds like fun to you?”
“Of course, it does!”
“Wait until we’re actually on the ropes course,” Mary chuckled, “Lily is afraid of heights.” She tilted her head toward Jamie and raised her brows.
“I’m not afraid of heights,” Lily argued. “I simply… do not… like them.”
“Right.” Mary laughed.
Rooming with best friends might not be the best case scenario, as they already had someone to pair off with for all the group activities they were bound to do over the next week. They had a fourth roommate yet, so Jamie would reserve her pessimistic judgment until then. In the meantime, Lily and Mary seemed like nice people who she could eat meals with if nothing else.
“There’s also a lake,” Lily apparently still found the need to explain why she thought this camp would be fun. “And the weather is supposed to be brilliant this week. Sunny and warm!”
“I’m here for the seminars and workshops, not for the lake.” Mary said.
“You can be here for both.” Lily shrugged. “And, as much as I love you, I’m here for the arts and crafts, camp food and fun activities.”
“Arts and crafts is an activity. And this is a camp for adults, do you really think-“
Lily cut Mary off with a scoff. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. “If you think I didn’t check before I agreed to come, then you have another thing coming, MacDonald.” She turned her phone out so it was facing Mary, and Jamie a bit. Jamie was able to see colorful pictures of string bracelets, painted pottery, and she couldn’t tell what else.
“Well then,” Mary shook her head. “I hope you get to live out your summer camp dreams.”
“Thank you.” Lily nodded, looking rather smug. It was a look that worked for Lily. Her cheeks took on a dusting of pink, her green eyes grew brighter, and she sat up taller. Jamie turned to her duffle to avoid being caught ogling.
There was a knock on the door and the three girls turned in unison.
“Hello, I’m Emma Vanity. I guess I’m your fourth.” She gave a sharp wave and then looked at the three taken beds before her eyes fell onto the unclaimed top bunk above Jamie.
“I’m Mary and this is Lily,” Mary pointed at Lily, who offered a bright smile.
“And I’m Jamie Potter.”
“Potter?” Emma’s brow shot up. “As in Potions by Potter? Are your parents Fleamont and Euphemia Potter?”
“It’s a fairly common last name,” Jamie shrugged. She wouldn’t have added her last name if she had thought someone would recognize it.
“Right,” Emma laughed and dropped her bag to the ground. “Well, either way, I’m sure that you are a greatperson to share a bunk with.” She knew who Jamie was, that was clear.
“Mary’s mother was a circus performer if that interests anyone.” Lily had pulled out a bag of jelly candies and tore one in half with her front teeth. Jamie smiled at her appreciatively.
“Does she still perform?”
“No, she retired when I started school.” Mary said. “But she does teach trapeze classes down at the local leisure center.”
“They’re great fun.” Lily nodded. “Should we go and find ourselves some lunch?”
“I hope you know that they aren’t going to serve bad camp food.” Mary pushed herself off Lily’s bed. “Are you two coming with us?”
Emma looked at Jamie, and since Jamie had no desire to be alone with Emma just then, she smiled at Lily and nodded. “Sure. I’m always ready to eat.”
“I’ll come too,” Emma nodded. “I’ve already memorized the layout of the camp, so you can all follow me.” And then she was walking back toward the door.
Lily, who had just proven herself to be very familiar with the camp, was looking at Emma’s retreating figure with raised brows, but she didn’t say anything and just hopped off her bed.
“Off we go then,” Mary bit her bottom lip and followed Lily. Jamie closed the door behind them.
The sun was out, and it was warm, which Jamie hadn’t fully appreciated before Lily had told her that they could expect this weather to last all week. And she hadn’t known there was a lake. That hadn’t been on her list of fun summer activities she wanted to do with Sirius, but she hadn’t been a beach in a while, and while she was sure the beach on this random camp lake wasn’t brilliant, it would be nice.
Especially if Lily was also there to talk it up.
oOo
Jamie gravitated toward Lily over the next couple of days. At first she thought it was because the other girl’s positive attitude was contagious, and while it was, that wasn’t the sole reason.
Jamie had developed a little bit of a crush.
Except not really, because Jamie had never once developed a ‘little’ crush in her life. It took exactly one day for her to realize that she was already deciding how the two of them would find time for each other after they left camp. Two days in and she had decided that their first pet would be a short haired cat named Mr. Tums, preferable all black.
Three days in and she was almost certain that she was in love.
Not in love in love, she understood that was ridiculous.
No, on day three, she was simply falling in love.
It would be a few more days until she was actually in love.
Lily had her shoulder length hair in twin braids today. Whisps of baby hairs framing her face and she kept reaching up to brush them away from her eyes, which only drew more attention to her eyes and her hair and all the other parts of her face that Jamie couldn’t stop staring at.
And at the moment, she was wearing a bloody bikini as she sat on the towel next to Jamie’s on the small beach the camp had to offer. A bikini.
Jamie was doing everything she could to ignore the bikini, but it was there, and showing off every soft curve and gentle swoop of Lily Evans’ body. Jamie was in a t-shirt and boardshorts, because she couldn’t possibly exist in the space next to Lily Evans wearing anything less than this and keep the ability to speak.
Not that her ability to speak was getting her far. Lily was doing most of the talking.
“What do you think?” Lily reached out and nudged Jamie on the shoulder, her bubblegum pink nails scraping lightly on the sleeve of Jamie’s t-shirt.
The quirk in Lily’s brow let Jamie know that she had missed something. Keeping her clothes on may have left her with the ability to speak, but Lily wearing that bikini had hindered her ability to listen. She’d been so focused on not staring at Lily that she hadn’t remembered to pay attention to what she was saying.
“What do I think about what again?” Jamie asked, not bothering to pretend that she had heard Lily. The knowing smile on Lily’s face should have made Jamie a bit self-conscious, but she liked how smug Lily looked knowing the effect she had on Jamie. She also wanted Lily to know that she liked her, especially since Lily had not acted as though knowing made her even the slightest bit uncomfortable.
“I was asking for your opinion one what we should do this evening. I want to watch the sunset over the lake, but I don’t think I can stay down here until then. I’ll fry. So should we go to the craft cabin and make some more bracelets,” She held up her rope bracelet covered wrist and shook it, “Or should we have an early dinner?”
“Don’t we have a class to go to before dinner?” Jamie asked, looking out at the water after briefly glancing in Lily’s direction.
“I didn’t sign up for anything. Did you?”
“Probably not.” Jamie shrugged. “Mary isn’t upset with you for ditching her?”
Lily snorted. “I’m hardly ditching her. Besides, she knew I wasn’t going to be signing up for anything that wasn’t required. I came for the crafts and the beach. And to share a bunk with her.” She was smiling at Jamie, she could feel it aimed at the side of her head.
“Alright, well then, I think we should stay down here for a while longer and then go and get some dinner. I didn’t really enjoy the bracelet making.”
“You’re just upset that I’m better at it than you.”
“No.” Jamie shook her head. “I can honestly say that I’m not upset because you’re better than me. I’m upset because I can not figure out how to do it at all. All five attempts turned into a tangled knot of colorful string and heartbreak.”
“You picked out great colors,” Lily had her lips pressed together when Jamie mustered up the fortitude needed to face her. She used all the strength she had to keep her gaze on Lily’s face and then let out a huff and laid back on her towel.
“Thanks a million.”
“Of course.” She reached out and patted the back of Jamie’s hand, her bubblegum pink nails drawing Jamie’s eye. “If we’re going to stay for a while more, I should put on more sunscreen.”
Jamie reached for the bag on her right and handed it to Lily and then shut her eyes. She couldn’t watch Lily put on sunscreen. She knew that she wouldn’t handle that well. Especially not when Lily seemed to be in a mind to tease the shit out of Jamie. Which Jamie knew she deserved after the entirely unsubtle way she had told Lily and Mary about her ex-girlfriend. She had blushed immediately after saying it and then muttered about needing a restroom.
Lily hadn’t brought up any exes at all, but she had followed Jamie on Instagram the first night, and it didn’t take a whole lot of work to figure out that Lily also represented a letter or two from the alphabet.
Jamie bit down on the tip of her tongue and wondered how long she would need to keep her eyes closed before it would be safe to open them.
She heard the cap of the sunscreen pop open and started counting, figuring three minutes to be ample time. She took the time to take a few deep breaths, have a few imaginary conversations with Sirius where he called her a dumbass, whacked her over the head and told her to make her move, and then tried to clear her head of any and all nonsense.
“Where do you head back to after this week?” Lily asked, and Jamie almost opened her eyes.
“Winchester. My brother and I are staying with our parents for the summer, and we have a lot of plans. This camp actually threw a bit of a wrench in our plans, but da wanted me to come here.”
“He didn’t want your brother to come?”
Jamie snorted. “Can you imagine? I mean, da did ask him if he wanted to, but Sirius is very… anti-group activities.”
“What plans were ruined?” Jamie turned her head and opened her eyes, figuring the sun screening was done with now.
It was not.
Lily was rubbing it into her shoulders, her hands moving slowly and her nails contrasting sharply with the pale tone of her skin.
Jamie’s mouth went dry and she tried to swallow.
Lily’s brow went up and Jamie cleared her throat. “Ballet.”
“What?”
“The ballet. I got Sirius to agree to go to a few different shows with me, which he never does, and I’m missing one of them to be here.”
The tip of Lily’s pink tongue peeked out from between her lips and Jamie bit down on her own tongue. What was it about this girl that had Jamie acting like a randy, seventeen-year-old, boy?
“The ballet? I didn’t picture you-“
“I’m actually a ballerina.”
Lily blinked her big green eyes and brought her shoulder up to her chin.
“I mean, I saw the pictures of you with your dance bag, but I guess I just…” Jamie hadn’t posted any recent pics of her in anything dance related, and so she smirked at the knowledge that Lily had been snooping.
“You didn’t picture me as a ballerina? What kind of dancer did you think I was?”
“Honestly? I thought you were a theater dancer.”
Jamie chuckled. “I mean, I have dabbled in the theater.”
“Dabbled? I think it’s you use of words like ‘dabbled’ that made me think theater actually.”
“Dabbled is a normal word.”
“Sure, and it made me think ‘theater kid.’” Lily turned back to the bottle of sunscreen and picked it up, squeezing some onto her hand before she angled one of her legs and started rubbing her hands together. The point of her toe, the angle of her head, it was all deliberate. Jamie knew that it was all deliberate, but she didn’t care. She watched on bated breath as Lily started working the sunscreen into her leg. She started at her upper thigh and worked her way down to the ankle, slowly, making sure to cover every inch of skin.
“How long have you been a ballerina?”
Jamie had to unclench her jaw to answer. “Since I was about five.”
“And when did you dabble in the theater?” Lily’s voice was even and normal, like she wasn’t currently putting on a show for Jamie. She should have kept her eyes shut. She should close her eyes right now, but she knew that she wasn’t going to.
“Um… I think the first musical I was in, I was eight? Mum was helping out with…” She trailed off as Lily angled her other leg and started on that thigh. “Mum was helping with costumes. It was just a small local production.”
“Of what?”
“Fiddler on the Roof.” Jamie hoped that she was answering Lily’s questions, but she really wasn’t paying attention to what either of them were saying. For the first time since she’d seen Lily in this stupid bikini, she was allowing herself to look at her. She was drinking it in.
Jamie was pretty sure that Lily said something else, and half of her brain heard it, though it took a while to get it all pieced together. “I’ve seen Fiddler on the Roof. Mary was a theater kid, so I’ve actually seen a lot of musicals.”
“Good.” Jamie nodded, even though she knew that wasn’t really a top notch response.
Lily picked up the bottle of sunscreen and popped the cap open again, and Jamie could feel the pop in the back of her teeth. She watched Lily tighten her hand around the bottle, squeezing more onto her open palm.
“I might need your help with my back-“
About two seconds before Jamie would have had a heart attack and passed away right there on the small camp beach in the middle of nowhere, the top of the bottle came off and, with Lily still squeezing the bottle, the sunscreen went everywhere. It splattered all over Lily’s lap, chest and towel. It got on Jamie too, a large glob landing on the lens of her glasses.
They both froze for a minute before Jamie looked up at Lily from her one clear lens. Lily’s cheeks were bright red and she was looking at the still dripping bottle as though it had purposefully ruined her plans to send Jamie to an early grave.
The building tension crumbled like a saltine cracker.
“That’s what you get,” Jamie said, reaching over and wiping a large glob off of Lily’s nose. Then she started laughing as Lily turned to look at her. Her cheeks stayed red, but she cracked a grin. “That was totally deserved!”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Lily shook her head and dropped the offending bottle. She started smearing and wiping at all the excess sunscreen, wiping her hands on her towel to get it off. “I wasn’t doing anything.”
Jamie started laughing harder. “You’re a liar.”
Lily bit down on her bottom lip, still shaking her head. “I don’t know what you mean.”
“You most certainly do know what I mean, and now you’ve made a mess of yourself.”
“The cap broke! I don’t know why you’re telling me I deserve it.”
Jamie reached over and swiped at another glob at Lily’s shoulder. “Sure, Evans.” She whipped her hand so it landed somewhere in the grass and then got another glob from Lily’s hair. “So that’s just how you normally put on sunscreen?”
“Of course it is.”
“I can’t wait to see how your normally put on your pajamas tonight.”
Lily’s face went a shade or two darker and Jamie laughed again.
“You know what, if I was putting it on… a certain sort of way, it was only because you were looking at me-“
“I hadn’t been looking at you!” Jamie took her glasses off and carefully went about cleaning them. “I had very deliberately not been looking at you. You waited until I was looking at you.”
Lily was quiet until Jamie looked over at her, having to squint in order to see the look on her face. She put her glasses back on to confirm that she was looking smug. She was. “Okay, but then you couldn’t take your eyes off me.”
“Have you ever heard the phrase, in for a penny, in for a pound?”
Lily narrowed her brow in confusion. “I have.”
“I’ve only ever had fancied three people in my life, including yourself,” Lily sat up straighter and Jamie felt her cheeks heat but shook her head. Lily had already known that Jamie fancied her. “Yes, go and head a preen over it.”
“I am flattered,” Lily, still covered in globs of sunscreen, waved her hair back over her shoulder with one of her hands. Then she looked at Jamie expectantly.
Jamie sucked in a sharp breath through her nose and released it all at once. “Where do you live, Evans? And how far is it from Winchester?”
“And why do you ask?”
“Because I’ve a feeling that we’ll have some unfinished business come Friday.”
And then Lily laughed, and Jamie felt it all the way to the tips of her toes.

Hi Vy! 📚🌻 Here!
How are you? I was at my brother's girlfriend's house, so I didn't had the time to send you more words challenges, please forgive me.
I hope you have been taking care of yourself and enjoying the present time and it's gift's. Today's words are: travel, vlog and fangs
Omg hun please don't apologize, I'm so glad you've been spending time with people who are important to you, I hope you've been having fun over there!
And thank you for the three new words. Here comes a fic for the Winters sisters ~ Enjoy 💕
Enough Said
Pairing: Rose Winters & Sister OC (Gwen Winters)
Warnings: Swearing (maybe XD)
Genre: Sibling Fluff, Humor
Following a long period of Gwen going off to missions and spending time at different BSAA bases, Rose has finally decided to take matters into her own hands when it comes to her sister spending time with her. While Gwen is still technically on duty this very moment, Rose is satisfied to be getting at least a this much time and attention from her.
Oh, and by ‘this very moment’ I mean the car ride they’re currently having, singing their hearts out to songs Rose puts on, acting as the car’s DJ. This travel was meant to be Gwen’s only, seeing as how she was called into one of the secret testing bases to get the regular tests that make sure everything in her body is orderly despite the quirks and issues the experiments done on her in Raccoon City.
Even though she wanted to keep this whole procedure a secret, she simply couldn’t say no to her sister’s begging any longer so that’s how Rose is now in the car with her. And boy is she glad she didn’t reject her.
“Hey Gwen, can I record the trip? You know, like one of those travel vlogs?“ Rose asks suddenly while she’s between songs and the car is only filled with the noises of the engine and the tires scraping the road pavement.
Gwen’s brows furrow but she keeps her eyes on the road, “We’re literally going to a BSAA base at an undisclosed location and you want to record that?” She pauses briefly before chuckling and adding: “And really? You watch travel vlogs?”
Rose is quick to get defensive and frown, glaring at her sister’s profile, “Says you who watches cooking shows at 2 AM!”
“It’s not my fault I can’t sleep!“ Gwen laughs, “They’re boring enough to make me dose off.“
Testing the waters and growing cautious, Rose now feels confident enough to nudge a different, significantly more delicate subject, “You know you wouldn’t have such a hard time if you weren’t so on-edge all the time.“
Gwen is seemingly unbothered by the comment which is relieving for Rose to see, “That’s hard when an entire corporation wants you either dead or in captivity and you leave alone.” The older girl says matter-of-factly as though it’s the most casual thing to address - an illegal bio-weapon-creating corporation wanting to do experiments on you.
“Well, you don’t HAVE to live alone...“ Rose attempts sending her message across subtly one more time, hoping her sister finally catches the hint she’s throwing.
This times she might just have just hit a nerve because her sister lets out a sigh, “Rose, you know I can’t come and live with you guys. It’d put you all in a lot more danger than you’re already in. I’m a walking target. A bad omen basically as Piers calls me as a joke.”
The younger girl scoffs, “That’s not what I meant, Gwen! I’m talking about getting a roommate.” She notices the other girl already preparing to complain so she quickly continues, “I don’t mean just some random stranger...”
“You mean Chris, which is even worse, Rose.“ Gwen cuts her off with a rather displeased expression but not yet angry or frustrated, “You think I don’t know why you wanted to come with me on this trip?“
The jig is up, Rose admits to herself, deciding to finally reveal the whole truth, “To spend time with your busy ass, of course! That and to protect Chris from your fangs.”
This caught Gwen so off-guard she even briefly turned her head to face her sister, “Fangs? What’s that supposed to mean?”
Rose rolls her eyes, “You know, fangs, horns, claws - all metaphors for the bitchiness you exhibit when around him.”
Surprisingly enough, Gwen laughs at that, “Good one, not gonna lie, I appreciate that. But be fair here, sis - he’s the same with me.”
Rose shrugs like she already knows what to say in response - because she does, “He’s matching your energy. What, you expect him to be nice and sweet while you are being distant, mean, reserved and downright a bitch?“
The younger girl is more than thrown off to see a smile on her sister's face but her confusion doesn't stick around for long - it disappears the second she looks through the windshield to see the BSAA issued terrain truck belonging to none other than the Alpha himself who is leaning on its side, shooting the black-haired girl a smile much like the one she's giving him in return.
Before Rose could say anything though, Gwen speaks up, her eyes never leaving Chris' form as he climbs into the truck to lead them to their destination, helping them navigate the rest of the way, "Oh sis, if you could only get a glimpse in this head of mine..." she pauses for a second, letting out a sigh, "On second thought, I'm glad you can't."
Enough said, Gwen - Rose thinks to herself, a smile forming on her face as well - Enough said

Finding the Time to Study Fic 2 [Day 34]
Here is my starting post for today’s study break stories session. See this post for more details and feel free to send me asks to keep me going! It’s been a lot of fun so far! I will reblog this post with the story as I write them today. I’ll be constantly looking for ideas of times and places for Janus to have missions, so feel free to send in any you can think of at any point!
If you are a new follower or just don’t want all of these posts clogging your dash, please feel free to block the tag “study break stories” as all posts and voting about it will go there. You can still see the finished product of the story even if you are blocking that tag as I will not tag the edited chapters with “study break stories” but with the tag “folds in paper.” See edited chapters below. None edited chapters are under the cut.
My Masterpost Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
I also have a playlist on youtube (because Spotify didn’t have one of the songs I wanted). It’s short, and not really for serious listening, but I had fun with it.
Just going to be casually researching today since I finally have my head above water when it comes to school! Yay!
Chapter 13
The room stopped shaking after a moment. “Ow,” Pat said. He seemed a bit stunned but was still moving at least. He carefully maneuvered himself into a seating position. “Ouch. Owie.” He reached up to poke his own nose. “Ow!” Janus slapped his hand away when he got there. A bit of blood was already trickling from his nose and there was a small cut over his eye, but it wasn’t bleeding too much.
Janus pushed him so he was leaning slightly forward and produced a pack of time appropriate tissues from his pocket. He pulled one out of the package and offered it to him.
He took it and pressed it up against his nose to try to stop the bleeding. He seemed mostly alright though Janus imagined he’d have plenty of bruises down the line. The power in the museum flickered and Janus looked up. Now that he was listening, he could hear people panicking in and out of the museum.
“We should probably get off of the stairs,” he suggested.
“Yeah,” Pat agreed. Janus helped him to his feet, and they climbed back up the steps. Janus looked around and found an employees only sign a few feet away. Usually he’d not risk that as it could get him into trouble he didn’t want to be in, but considering the earthquake that had just happened, he could probably play it off as panic.
He ushered Pat into a small room and found a chair and table. He had Pat sit in the chair and pulled out another one of the tissues to dab at the blood coming from the cut over his eyes. “Here,” he said. “Hold that there. I’m going to go see if there are any bandages about.”
Pat took the tissue with the hand not already holding one to his nose. “Thanks,” he said.
Janus nodded and got to his feet. The lights flickered once again but didn’t stay off for now. He didn’t know how long that would last.
He couldn’t see anything that might hold bandages in this room, but there was a second door. “I’ll be right back,” he told Pat, exiting through it.
The lights flickered once more as the door closed behind him and he cursed. When they came back up Janus’s eyes immediately fell on a man. They both froze.
“Remus!” Janus hissed the second their eyes met. “What are you doing here?”
Remus blinked at him for a moment. “Hi. Janus,” he said. “I… come to France for… tea sometimes?”
“There isn’t any tea back here.”
“So, there isn’t…” he said. There was a moment of silence. “Uh, so I actually cannot talk to you right now.”
“What do you mean?” Janus asked. Remus grimaced in a way Janus had never seen from him before. It immediately set off alarm bells in Janus’s head. “Oh my god,” Janus said. “Oh my god. You’re not from the same time as me.”
“Oh, you have no idea,” Remus mumbled.
“Holy shit, you’re looping?!”
“It’s… not looping if I wasn’t here the first time.”
“Remus, we spend more than 12 hours a day together most of the time. The only thing worse than this is if I looped back to this time myself.”
“…Yeah. Anyway, I need to leave now.”
“Please do.”
He turned to go, but then stopped. “Oh, and,” he reached into his pocket and tossed something at Janus. Janus caught it.
It was Band-Aids.
“Oh, shit,” Janus spat at the clear use of foreknowledge. “I hate this. I hate you. I’m going to kill you the next time you see me.”
“Sure, Jan.”
“Go.”
He did, slipping into the next room while Janus took a deep breath and then turned back to the door behind him. He schooled his face before Pat looked up. “I found some Band-Aids.”
Pat nodded and Janus came over to squat next to him.
Janus opened the box and Pat looked down. His eyes lit up with sudden joy so intense that Janus felt like he’d just gotten a punch to the gut. “Kitty Band-Aids!” he exclaimed. Janus bothered to actually look at the design on the container, only to note the cartoon cats on the front. Pat was almost vibrating off his seat. “Look they’re all so cute!” He grabbed the container from him to inspect the different designs printed on the back with glee even as a bit of blood was still trickling from his nose.
Janus took the box back gently and guided the wad of bloody Kleenexes back to his nose.
“Which would you like?” Janus asked.
“Oh, they are all so cute,” Pat cooed. “Um, how about that one!” he pointed. “Or that one! Or that one!”
“Pat you only have one cut.”
“But they’re all so cute!” Pat said, tongue tucking into his cheek. He contemplated the box again. “Let’s do the black one,” he finally settled on.
Janus selected one of the Band-Aids with a black cat wrapped around a pink ball of yarn and staring back at them with wide green eyes. The think looked like it had partaken in one two many doses of catnip, but Janus didn’t mention that.
Instead, he just carefully unstuck the backing from the Band-Aid and motioned for Pat to remove the tissue from his forehead. He smiled at Janus as he drew back.
Janus cleared his throat. “How’s the nose.”
“It’s slowing down,” Pat replied. “Thanks.”
“No problem,” Janus replied. They met eyes for a second before Pat looked away back at the box of Band-Aids.
“Oh,” Pat said. “There’s a grey one. I didn’t notice.” He pointed to it. “I should have used that one.”
“Do you like grey cats?” Janus asked.
“I like all kitties,” he said, “but one of my roommates loves grey cats. He had one when he was a kid and thinks of them as good omens. Seeing one always brightens up his day.”
“A friend of mine has a grey cat,” Janus said. “She’s much more tolerable than him.”
Pat laughed a bit. “Don’t be mean,” he said.
“Oh, he deserves it, don’t worry.” Janus considered him for a moment. “Here,” he said, pulling out one of the Band-Aids with the grey cat on it. It did, actually, look a lot like Diesel Fuel.
“But I don’t…”
Janus just shrugged and stuck it on his cheek where there was no wound. Pat giggled and touched it with a finger. Janus stood back up.
“Can I have another tissue?” Pat asked.
“Sure.” Janus handed a tissue over to him and he crumpled up the bloody ones in his hand.
“I think I’m good to keep going,” Pat said, putting the new tissue under his nose. “The nose will stop soon.”
Pat got out his iPhone and directed him back out of the room. They checked the second floor and didn’t find anything and so went to the third floor. The second they arrived in the room that Pat’s phone was directing them too, Janus knew that it must be right. There was a strange, distorted whirling sound and the entire room was shaking slightly like they were standing next to a railroad track.
“I’m guessing this is it,” Pat said.
Janus nodded and looked over his shoulder at the screen. They both cautiously walked towards where the little dot was on the phone.
“Is that it?” Pat asked, pointing at a small device on the center column in the room. Janus reached forward to flip the switch on it. The whirling stopped and the room settled. Janus’s time piece vibrated as it came back online. They waited for a few moments. “I assumed… time distortions would be more…”
“They are,” Janus said. “This one is artificial.”
“What does that mean?”
“It’s a simulation,” Janus said. “It causes similar symptoms to a time distortion, but it’s not actually fracturing time at all.”
“That’s good, isn’t it?” Pat asked.
“I don’t know,” Janus said. He took the piece of tech of the wall and carefully stored it in his pocket, “but someone’s trying to get our attention.”
 Chapter 14
Janus didn’t feel comfortable leaving France 2027 just yet, still weirded out by the strange turn of events. So, he and Pat ended up sticking around for a couple of hours. They looked through the art museum for a bit, but Janus was having trouble focusing on the pieces, and Pat eventually suggested they get some air. Janus agreed considering the museum would close for the night soon anyway.
They wandered around the downtown for a bit. The people seemed to jump back from the strange weather and earthquake that afternoon rather quickly, and there were plenty still about to blend into.
Pat was snapping photos every so often like a tourist which Janus shook his head at but allowed because even with the outdated phone it almost made them blend in even more. It also might stop any questions about Pat’s weird way of speaking French. They could just say he was an overeager tourist who watched too many old movies.
“Ooo!” Pat said. “We should get crepes.”
“Why?”
“You can’t go to France and not eat crepes.”
“I assure you, you can,” Janus said dryly.
Pat shot a pout at him and the next thing he knew he was in a small crepe shop.
For Janus, choosing something was easy. He just ordered the first thing he found on the menu which seemed to be a standard one with ham and eggs. Pat on the other hand seemed to be struggling greatly, and Janus had to gently push him to the side to let some other customers order first.
“What should I get!?” Pat asked. “They all look so good! I could do strawberry preserves or maple syrup or just sugar!”
“Or you could get one that is actually food,” Janus suggested mildly. “I don’t think you need any more sugar judging by how you are acting.”
Pat rolled his eyes. “You sound like Lo.”
Janus made a note of the name ‘Lo’ even though it surely was a nickname.
“But, since you’re insisting, I’ll get something healthy. I’ll have the strawberry one. That’s a fruit!”
“It comes with a cream cheese filling,” Janus pointed out.
“And it’s fruit!”
Janus shook his head and stepped up to the counter. “One ham and cheese and one strawberry preserve, please,” he said to the cashier as he was not allowing Pat to order in French and accidently say something stupid. He forked over some euros.
“You don’t have to pay for me,” Pat protested when he saw that.
Janus glanced back at him. “I was afraid you’d try to pay in francs,” he said dryly.
It looked like Pat was about to stick his tongue out at him, remembered that Janus had criticized him for that earlier, and then just scrunched up his face in displeasure as though that was any less childish.
They waited for their crepes to be finished and then went to eat them outside near a water fountain.
“I can pay you back for the crepe,” Pat said after they sat down. “I do actually have euros.”
Janus waved him off. “It wasn’t that expensive.”
Pat hummed. “Well, in that case. I insist on paying for a wish for you.” Janus raised an eyebrow. “In the fountain!” Pat clarified.
Pat set aside his crepe to dig in his pocket for a couple of coins. “Here!” he said handing one over.
Janus glanced over at the fountain. “No.”
“Oh, come on,” Pat beseeched. “You have to want something. I’ll even throw it in for you, but you have to make a wish first!”
“No.”
“Please!”
Janus sighed. “Fine.” He popped the rest of his crepe in his mouth. “I wish for a crepe,” he said after swallowing.
“You just had a crepe, silly.”
“But I liked it, so I want another one.”
“We can go back and get you another crepe.”
“Ah, but I’m not hungry anymore.”
Pat crossed his arms. “You’re just being difficult on purpose.”
“Not me,” Janus said putting hand over his heart. “I would never do something like that.”
Pat glared at him, but then snatched the coin out of his hand. “Fine!” he said. “One crepe wish coming right up.” He hopped up with the two coins and darted over to the water fountain. Janus turned to watch him go but then happened to catch sight of something out of the corner of his eyes.
Pat’s phone.
He didn’t pause in his movement, completing the turn, but as he watched Pat close his eyes, presumably to focus on his own wish, Janus snuck a hand out and grabbed the phone without looking. He slipped it into his own pocket.
Pat came back over after throwing both coins in the fountain and didn’t even seem to notice that his phone was missing, picking up his crepe to take another bite. Just to make sure, though Janus decided to distract him. “What do you think of your crepe?” Janus asked.
“I like it! It’s sweet, but not too sweet. There was a crepe place across the street from my apartment in college, but they always put a bit too much sugar in the dough, I think. I’d still eat them, but these are much better.”
Janus nodded and kept up the light conversation until Pat was finished.
21088
“Well,” he said then, getting to his feet. “It seems that nothing else is going to happen regarding the time distortion. I should be getting back.”
Pat hummed. “I should too. It’s movie night!”
“I probably should arrest you,” Janus noted.
“In the middle of all of these people?” Pat asked mildly.
“Touché,” Janus said.
Pat gasped and pointed at him. “Pun!” he said. Janus blinked at him. “Because we’re in France! That’s French!”
“…Goodbye Pat,” Janus said, turning to walk away from him.
“Goodbye… wait I still don’t know your name!”
Janus stopped to look back at him for a moment. “Like I said,” he replied. “Elvis.”
“Fine,” Pat said. “Au revoir, mon chéri.”
“You never stop, do you?” Janus asked.
Pat giggled. “Considering I don’t know what you mean, I imagine I’m just getting started.”
Janus actually left then, walking off towards the alley he’d first arrived in. In some ways, the mission had been a bust, but in others it had gone very well.
He felt for the weight of the phone in his pocket before pulling up the display screen on his timepiece to go back to the TPI.
It had gone very well indeed.
 Chapter 15
The first thing Janus had done when he’d returned to the TPI was hand over the timebomb to Khalid who sent it to forensics. Within the hour, forensics got back to them that it was the same timebomb as 2999 and that it had never exploded, but simply been diffused. Which meant, blessings on blessings, everyone got to go home that night.
Not that Janus went home, no, he ended up falling asleep on his desk somewhere between 3 and 4am, but at least he wasn’t sharing his space with anyone. He’d been trying to hack the cell phone all night to see if it had anything he could use, but he honestly had no idea what he was doing. All it seemed he could do was play some annoying song over and over again about never giving someone up. At around 2am, he’d finally broken and sent off an email, though, he’d continued to try to mess with it after that.
He got woken up by Lena coming into the office at 7am, and noticed he already had an email response asking when Janus wanted to come in.
“Now?” he sent back.
“…Do you sleep?” was the immediate response. “And yes.”
His wrist buzzed as an appointment in 5 seconds downloaded to his timepiece. He selected the coordinates and landed at Cultural Outreach. The receptionist blinked up at him and then back down at the screen on his desk. “Oh!” he said. “I didn’t see this appointment. I think Professor Eran is in his office.”
He didn’t stand to escort Janus this time, so Janus went ahead and went down the hall to Virgil’s office himself.
He knocked on the door and while he was waiting for Virgil to open it, the infernal contraption once again started to play the same stupid song.
“I didn’t even touch you!” he spat, getting it out and tapping on the screen.
“Jonas Brothers dude again?” Virgil asked causally upon opening the door.
Janus shoved it at him. “Make it stop.”
Virgil took it and fiddled with it for a few moments before it stopped with the song. “Oh my gosh,” he said scrolling through something on the screen.
“What.”
“What maniac sets a custom alarm for every 30-60 minutes for a week that just plays ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’? Oh, and one ‘It’s Not Unusual’ on Saturday. He’s mixing memes at an alarming rate.”
“Can you. Just. Make it not happen. Anymore?”
Virgil smirked at him. “Maybe.” He turned around to go back into his office.
“Virgil,” Janus growled following him in.
Virgil just laughed. “What do you want to know about it?” he asked. “Just a fair warning… the song means he… likely was aware someone would steal it.”
“Of course, he was,” Janus groaned.
“But I’m sure we can still get something out of it.” Virgil started tapping at the screen again. “Okay, let’s see. It’s an iPhone 5, and someone jailbroke it.”
“What does that mean?”
“Tampered with it so they could install non-company approved software,” Virgil explained.
“Well I figured that since he was using Google Maps to track time distortions,” Janus grumbled.
“I think I have something,” Virgil said to himself while digging through his desk. “Ah ha!” He held up some sort of cord. “This will let me hook it up to my integrator.” He slotted the cord into the bottom of the iPhone and then crawled under his desk to fiddle around with some other things. “There we go,” Virgil said popping back up. “It might take a few minutes. Running the program any faster might overheat the phone.”
Janus nodded and sat back to wait. Virgil grabbed the phone and started to play around with it a bit even as it uploaded all of its information to his computer.
“Weird,” Virgil said after a moment.
“What?” Janus asked, sitting up straighter.
“There are exactly two contacts. Fewer than I’d anticipate for a regular phone from the 2010s. More than I would expect from one clearly not being used as a phone.
Virgil glanced to the side, and it must have finished the download because he unhooked it from the computer. “I have a 21st century phone network adapter,” Virgil said. “It transfers call back to whatever date the phone says. Do you want to try calling one?”
“It’s worth a shot,” Janus replied.
Virgil dug back into his desk for a small device that he plugged into the same port he’d plugged the earlier cord. “Okay, which contact do you want to try first?” he asked. “One has ‘Ro’ with a crown, red heart, and a gold star emoji. The other has “Lo” with a book, blue heart, and Milky Way emoji.”
“He mentioned a Lo,” Janus said. “So, try him first.”
Virgil nodded. “I’ll put it on speaker.” He pressed some buttons before setting the phone on the desk between them.
The phone rang three times before with a bit of a crackle, it was answered. “Salutations,” a voice said, voice sounding a bit scratchy as though he had only just gotten up.
Virgil motioned with his head for Janus to speak. “Are you ‘Lo’?” he asked.
The man hummed. “To some people.”
Janus… didn’t quite know what to say to that, or even what questions he should ask.
“I’m assuming you’re the man that stole my associate’s phone.”
 “Your associate?” Janus fished.
The man made an amused hum. “I believe you were calling him ‘Pat’ on your last adventure.” Janus could hear something being placed down on the other end of the phone. Before Janus could respond, he heard what sounded like an old keyboard being typed on. “Now,” Lo said. “I have to admit, I am surprised you were willing to oblige me so thoroughly by plugging the phone into your system. Let’s see…”
The screen on Virgil’s lit up bright blue all of a sudden. “…shit,” said Virgil.
“Well,” Lo said, “it seems you were clever enough not to plug it into the TPI system, which is disappointing, but…”
There was more clicking on the other end. “Hmm, interesting music tastes for the 4000s,” he said.
“I’m an anthropologist,” Virgil spoke up.
“Ah, yes, I can see that,” Lo replied. “Virgil Eran, senior professor at Silver Mountain University, a vetted member of the Cultural Outreach program, and searched the phrase ‘How to eat sushi without making a cultural blunder and making everyone hate you and losing your job because what kind of shit anthropologist doesn’t know how to eat raw fish right’ which you then shortened to ‘How to eat sushi’ and proceeded to search 52 times in the last 48 hours.”
Virgil went a bit scarlet around the ears. “Dude, did you really have to out me like that?” he hissed at the phone.
“My apologies,” Lo responded. “From my personal experience, don’t dip the rice parts in soy sauce, and don’t add too much wasabi. Overall, most people will be understanding of mistakes, and you will certainly not be fired or ostracized for handling food incorrectly. As long as you are not acting intentionally disrespectful, and I image you will not be considering your clear anxiety over whatever outing you are planning to attend, you will be fine.”
“Okay,” Virgil said. “Good point, but counterpoint, what if you’re wrong and everyone hates me forever?”
“Is it the lunch meeting today at 11:30am?” Lo asked, “because I can see that a Professor Boris Laden has attended the event multiple years in a row. Considering he is a philosophy instructor, has no Japanese heritage that I can see, and I have found a photo of last year’s event wherein he has placed his chopsticks vertically in his rice, and he has yet to be fired or ostracized, I would postulate that your fears are unfounded.”
“Yeah but… okay, I really don’t have an argument for that one, except maybe I’m a piece of shit and everyone is looking for a reason to hate me.”
“Considering your many impressive accolades in your field, I would argue that ‘a piece of shit’ is not a good descriptor of you. Not to mention the fact that you are often a highly requested member for different committees in your department and outside of it.”
“Oh, but is that because people like me or because I’m an anxious mess and make sure events go off without a hitch?”
“From experience, disorder with people you enjoy the company of is far more tolerable than order with people you do not. Which explains my current living situation and the lack of finished dishes in my sink. Therefore, I would assume the former.”
22735
“A lot of assumptions,” Virgil commented, but he was smiling slightly.
“Assumptions based on data,” Lo argued back lightly.
“You really came in here, hacked into my computer and smacked my anxiety in the face, huh?”
“Glad to have helped.”
“Y-”
“Are the two of you finished?” Janus interrupted, finally getting sick of the two of them.
“Not nearly,” Lo said. “I have gained access to an entire network of a very large university and will be sorting through the data for a long time.”
“Ugh, right,” Virgil groaned, “and you got access through my integrator.”
“I doubt they’ll be able to trace it back to you if you don’t tell them.”
“Nice try,” Virgil said dryly, “but not likely. I’m telling them about you immediately so they can work to kick you out.”
Lo laughed. “Fair enough, but I’ve already gotten plenty of information at this point. Including the fact that you work with the TPI and scheduled an appointment with an Agent Janus Picani this morning set to start a few minutes before this phone call. So, hello Janus.”
“Bastard,” Janus shot back.
“And goodbye Professor Eran. It was a pleasure.” He hung up.
Virgil sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “This is going to be fun to explain to both of our bosses.”
Arc II What We Do to Each Other
Chapter 16:
As it would turn out, Janus and Virgil did not get in trouble for hooking up the old phone to Virgil’s integrator, mostly because it wasn’t really a mistake on their part. The phone cleared all virus checks that the tech people both from the university and the TPI ran on it. The phone should have been clean and should not have caused an issue.
In fact, they were still trying to pin down the code on the general university server. They could tell that something was mucking about on the system but what or how was a mystery. This also meant that there was no telling what information had been compromised and considering how many things Silver Mountain had its hands in, that was… a bit worrying.
Another worrying thing was there was suddenly more activity of late at the TPI. There were more time distortions popping up every day. Usually they would be few and far in between. There had been 3 total recorded the year before, but over 12 in the last week. Some of them were fake like the one Janus had investigated, but some of them were real. It painted a distressing picture and also was a drain on their resources. Khalid was actually looking to advertise positions to hire new recruits which was something she rarely did as she liked to keep appointments to the TPI in house.
They’d even loosed the number of field agents needed for each mission and Janus and Remus had been splitting up just to get everything done. Today, he and Remus had thankfully only two missions scheduled for the day.
“Are we going together or separate today?” Janus asked Remus.
“Think they’ll burn me at the stake for being a witch if I go alone to either of them?” Remus asked.
“I don’t know. Probably. I think we’re getting a bit late into the 1700s for that in Cuba, but I have no idea about Mesopotamia.”
“Let’s just go together. I did not like almost drowning yesterday because I was the only stranger in town when the weather was going wonky.”
“Surely it isn’t because you opened your mouth. Ever.” Janus said dryly.
“How was I supposed to know he was the local clergyman’s son?”
Janus rolled his eyes. “On second thought,” he said, pushing a button on his desk to choose Cuba as he next mission, and standing up. “I don’t want you coming with me.” Yet, he did not protest when Remus also signed up for the Cuba mission and he waited for him by the office door before going to talk to Rhi.
Rhi was a bit frazzled when which meant quite a bit as she was usually incredibly put together. Remus didn’t even seem inclined to tease her today.
“Okay,” she said once they’d closed the door behind them. She flipped through some documents on her desk. “Picani and Clockson. Camaguey Cuba 1755. Do you know Cuba?”
 “Uh,” Janus said. “Yeah?”
“Like you’re reading the things, right? I don’t have to babysit you, right? You got it? The Seven Year War was happening, but it won’t affect you much as it hasn’t really hit Cuba. It’s the middle of the Camaguey Carnival. Everyone will be everywhere and there will be chaos so as long as you don’t really fuck up you should be fine. Um…apparent races.” She looked up at them and studied them each for a moment as thought looking at them for the first time despite having known them for years. “It’ll work. Go to costuming.”
“Shouldn’t we…” Janus said, “sign things?”
“…Yep,” she said, fiddling with her desktop and then sending documents over to their side to sign.
Janus and Remus both did before sending them back.
“Great. Good.” She stood and grabbed some things from behind her. “You can go.” She sat back down as they took their things and Janus noticed a message pop up on her desk. She looked up at Remus looking exhausted. “What?” she asked.
“Just open it,” Remus said.
Rhi tapped it and a photo opened.
“I got her a new mouse toy!” Remus said happily as Rhi looked at the picture of Diesel Fuel attacking a cloth mouse.
“That is… appreciated Agent Clockson,” Rhi said. “Now get out.”
They did, leaving to get their costumes on and checked. Costuming was just as busy and frazzled as Rhi had been and they actually had to wait for decon because there’d been a mix up with the agents leaving before them. They landed in Cuba without issue. Janus could already hear the festival in full swing outside the small building they’d were in. Remy was standing there with a very not time appropriate mug of coffee.
“Sue me,” Remy said when Janus raised an eyebrow at it. “Please just… get in and out without causing trouble. Seriously. I don’t want to have to deal with that on top of everything else.”
“We’ll do our best,” Janus assured.
Remy pulled his sunglasses down to look at him. He looked exhausted. “God please do more than your best.”
Janus nodded tightly. “We’ll be in and out,” he said, already glancing at his timepiece. It had been disguised as a golden bracelet which made it a bit harder to actually use, but wrist watches wouldn’t be invented for more than a century, so they’d have to make do. “The time distortion, if that’s what it is, should be in the middle of town. Let’s go.”
He and Remus exited the building onto the packed city street.
Janus was immediately bombarded with all types of sights, sounds, and smells. There were many colorful articles of clothing and costumes as people went every which way along the street talking to other members of their community, playing instruments, and dancing. There was the sound of people speaking Spanish, still mostly almost pure Castilian Spanish with perhaps a bit of influence from Taino as the Haitian revolution had yet to push the Creole language over to Cuba. People must have been hard at work cooking different dishes for the carnival as many different spices wafted through the air. It was sticky hot considering it was the middle of June in the tropics and Janus was immediately sweating despite the temperature appropriate clothing he’d been outfitted with.
He glanced around their immediate area, just scoping out the crowds. His eyes were immediately drawn to one person near them.
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” he said out loud when he saw Pat. Remus looked in the direction Janus was.
Even if Janus didn’t recognize him the moment he laid eyes on him, he probably still would have ended up staring as he was the only person in the area who clearly did not know how to do the dance he was attempting.
Remus snorted and Janus shook his head in secondhand embarrassment. “Well, would you look whose boyfriend’s here,” he said to Janus. Make that firsthand embarrassment. “Has anyone told him the Mambo wasn’t invented until the 1900s and also that’s not how you do it?”
 Chapter 17
Pat stopped dancing the moment he saw Janus approaching him, but he still bobbed cheerfully ( and unrhythmically) to the music. “Hi Janus,” he said pleasantly.
“You just have to rub it in, huh?”
There was a flash of confusion across his face, but then he smiled. “Well, I know where in our relationship you are. How was France?”
“You’re a bastard.”
“You stole the phone,” he laughed.
“You stole the bomb,” Janus countered, “and you wanted me to steal the phone. You booby trapped it.”
“No,” Pat correct, putting a finger up. “We have security on my phone because in high school I once forgot it in the school locker room and long story short, the three of us ended up in a lake. So, then Lo made sure I always had some sort of tracker on it. When I started time traveling, he updated it and when I met you we updated it again in case there was ever an opportunity like that. Lo calls it using our weaknesses to our advantage.”
“He’s a bastard too,” Janus growled.
Pat just laughed.
“Is someone talking about me?” Remus asked, stepping over to them. Janus rolled his eyes.
“Oh,” Pat said, blinking at Janus’s partner for a moment. “Remus.” He hesitated slightly. “How are you doing?”
“Me?” Remus asked. “Uh, I’m doing good. A little stressed out with work, but fine.”
“Good,” Pat said with just a little too much heartfulness to it.
“What?” Janus asked, eyes narrowed at Pat. “What is that?”
“What is what?” Pat asked. He met Janus’s eyes briefly and it made panic surge up Janus’s spine because the look Pat was sending him wasn’t one that said he was playing dumb. It was a warning.
Oh, Janus did not like this. That look told Janus Pat had some foreknowledge that he absolutely could not tell Janus about without messing up the timeline spectacularly. This was why this mess the two of them were mixed up in was so bad, but it seemed Janus did not have much of a choice when it came to Pat.
Despite how bad of an idea he knew it was, he still wanted to push, because whatever Pat was hiding could be very, very bad and it had to do with Remus. There were so many reasons Pat could be acting like that around Remus, but the worst ones were definitely the ones on his mind. Death, injury, illness. They were all possible especially in their line of work and especially with how time was being screwed with right now. And Pat knew. He knew exactly what the answer was, and oh did Janus want to push.
Experience knowing what worse things could come out of having foreknowledge made Janus bite his tongue.
“So, what are you two doing here,” Pat asked, and Janus unhappily let him change the subject.
“Oh, like you don’t know,” Janus replied.
“I don’t know,” Pat said innocently.
“There’s another time distortion,” Janus said, “and while you didn’t know what it was the last time I saw you, I’m pretty sure you do now.”
“Oh, I didn’t know there was a time distortion here. I can help you if you like,” he offered sweetly.
“Oh, yeah, sure. Then why are you here?”
“I wanted to see if I could find the Flying Dutchman,” Pat told him.
“And so you went to Camaguey?”
“Uh huh.”
“One of the farthest places from the ocean in Cuba?”
 “Is it?”
“I don’t trust you.”
Pat just shrugged. “Well, if you don’t want my help finding the time distortion, I’ll just be on my way then.”
“Wait,” he said when Pat went to turn away. Pat paused. Janus turned to Remus. “Remus, do you think he’s bullshitting me so I let him wander off and do whatever the hell he’s doing, or do you think he’s bullshitting me into letting him come with us.”
“Hmm,” Remus said, looking Pat up and down. Janus could immediately tell he wasn’t going to get any helpful answer. “Well, if we’re going with the how much do I get to see his, admittedly very sexy, ass criteria.” Janus pinched the bridge of his nose. “Letting him leave now means instant gratification and a nice full image when he turns away. However, letting him go with us means many more opportunities to get a glimpse, but they’d probably just be glimpses. So, yeah that’s a tough call.”
“You didn’t even bother to give me an actual hidden suggestion with that bullshit,” Janus groaned. He glanced at Pat only to see him hiding his very red face in his hands. Janus blinked. “Oh,” he said. “You got him, Remus.” Janus was surprised. He’d expected a bit more tenacity for someone with Pat’s personality. Of course, Janus was used to Remus, so that perhaps had some effect. Pat made a muffled distressed sound behind his hands and Janus raised an eyebrow. “You really got him.”
Pat flapped one hand around while still using the other to completely hide his face. “It’s just. His face. Saying that. Is weird.”
Janus could not say that he didn’t feel a slight spark of joy at seeing Pat flustered. After all, Pat’s weapon of choice had often been flirting with Janus in the past. However, he still smacked Remus on the shoulder when it looked like he was about to continue with something likely far more inappropriate. “We are here for a reason,” he reminded. He turned to consider Pat and squinted at him. “You’re coming with us, I’ve decided. I don’t want to let you out of my sights. Don’t,” he said empathically turning to Remus as the man opened his mouth once more.
Pat had mostly recovered, though his cheeks were just a bit pink still. “Yeah,” he said. “I’ll go with you. Where do we start?”
Janus glanced at his timepiece. “It’s not showing up on our trackers yet.”
“It messed with your tracker last time,” Pat pointed out.
“I know,” Janus said. “Which means it could be another fake one or whatever is causing it hasn’t started yet. If things start going wrong, but it still doesn’t show on our radar, it’s almost certainly a fake one, but some of the fake ones haven’t blocked our technology.”
“Here, I can check,” Pat said.
“Please don’t pull out an iPhone,” Janus begged.
Pat stuck out his tongue at him, and then smiled. He reached for the bracelet on his wrist and twisted it back and forth a few times before pressing his palms together. He glanced around them quickly to make sure no one around them was watching and then peeled apart his palms like he was miming reading a book.
“What the fuck is that, and how do I get one?” Remus asked immediately. It was innocuous, whatever it was. If someone from this time caught a glimpse of the display, they’d likely assume it was a trick of the light, but staring right at it, Janus could tell it was a map of the surrounding areas with a softly glowing blue light marking their current location. Janus could see no screen or origin of a hologram. It looked like the image was drawn onto the man’s palms, but as he watched, the image shifted to zoom out.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything major yet,” Pat said wiggling his fingers a bit. The display changed slightly to some sort of colorful overlay Janus did not understand. Pat hummed. “Did you two come from that building recently?” he asked nodding at it.
“Yes,” Janus replied. “How do you know?”
“There’s sometimes a slight temperature change when people time travel,” Pat explained. “I can read it on here.” He tilted his head. “There also seems to be a big enough temperature change in a church a few blocks away that could indicate time travel. Want to check it out?”
“We might as well,” Janus agreed.
“And if it’s nothing, we can get drunk on the communion wine!”
“He’s going to get immediately struck by lightning,” Janus said.
 Chapter 18
“If we see anyone,” Janus said as they entered the church. “You keep your mouth shut. Do you understand me? Remus, do you understand me?”
Remus immediately turned to Pat. “You know, I didn’t grow up Catholic,” he said to Pat who looked at him in confusion. “So the first time I ever entered a Catholic church, you can’t blame me for being a little confused about the whole cabinet thing with a wall between them. After all, everyone was singing about glory to god and what not. So I…”
Janus slapped him. “This is why you were almost burned at the stake yesterday.”
“Excuse you,” Remus said, putting his hand over his heart. “I was almost drowned.”
“You were almost drowned?” Pat asked, his voice seeming legitimately distressed.
Remus shrugged a smile on his face that caused a Pavlovian migraine to start up behind Janus’s eyes. “It’s one of the hazards of the jobs, and really it would have all been worth it if I’d actually gotten to drown in that man’s…”
“We’re in a church!” Janus cut him off switching from Spanish to Swahili in the hopes that no random passersby would be able to understand him in this time and place. “Don’t talk about lewd sex things. Don’t talk about sex at all. It’s a Catholic church!”
Remus continued to speak in Spanish with no regard for anything. “But not talking about lewd sex things takes away 3/4ths of my personality,” he pouted.
“More like 9/10th,” Janus grumbled, “and the other 1/10th is just normal stupid.”
“Hey, you shouldn’t be mean,” Pat scolded, in fucking English for some reason, “but Remus, honey, you probably shouldn’t be saying things like that right now.”
“No, no, he has a point,” Remus said switching to English.
“He’s my partner, I have the right to call him stupid,” Janus insisted.
“And I love you too!” Remus said in Greek because he was really, truly, stupid.
Pat looked between the two, but then seemed to accept it, dropping the concerned expression for a slightly amused one. “If you say so.”
“Can I… help you?” A voice asked. All three of them whipped around to see a young boy looking at them and seeming very confused. Which was fair considering that to his ears, they’d just been speaking nonsense.
“We’re here to pray!” Remus claimed, then he turned to wink at Pat and said under his breath in Swahili, “to that ass.” Pat went immediately bright red again, which was doubtlessly Remus’s aim. Janus subtlety stepped on his foot while smiling at the boy.
“Oh,” the boy said. “Okay.” Thankfully, he didn’t seem interested in questioning the random strangers in front of him further. “I’m going to go back to the celebration now.”
Janus smiled at him. “Have fun,” he said. He waited for the boy to leave through the front door before slapping Remus on the back of the head.
“Ow!” he whined sounding far too pained for how hard Janus had actually hit him.
Janus rolled his eyes. “Let’s just start investigating,” he said.
“Sure, sure, you never let me have any fun,” Remus said, pulling up his wrist and spinning the golden bracelets on his arm. “Hmm…” he said.
 “What?” asked Pat.
“Either I put on the wrong jewelry this morning… or my timepiece isn’t working.”
“Well, then I’m guessing we’re in the right place,” Janus said. He turned to Pat. “Your stuff still working?”
Pat brought up whatever device was on his hands. “Yeah,” he said, “and it looks like something is just starting.” Just as he said it, there was a violent crash of thunder.
“Well,” Janus said. “We should probably find the source and soon. Which way?”
Patton glanced around himself and then motioned with his wrist. Suddenly there was a 3D display of the church in front of them.
Janus could see immediately where the problem had to originate. There was a swirling mass of some sort of energy centered at the top of the bell tower of the church. As he watched, he saw the picture of the church glitch out a bit. He had a bad feeling about that.
“Is there something wrong with your display?” he asked, or more hoped.
Pat shook his head slowly. “I don’t think so…” The room seemed to shift suddenly underneath their feet. It felt a bit like time travel, but also wrong. The picture on the display flickered harder, part of the building fracturing and dissolving before appearing back in place. The room settled after a moment, but Janus’s stomach did not.
“Whatever is going on,” Janus said, “We need to stop it right now.”
Pat nodded. “The quickest way up would be that way,” Pat said pointing. The display closed as he did.
“Then, let’s go,” Janus said.
The world was eerily calm as they all started off in the direction Patton had pointed out. In fact, it was almost too quiet.
“Where’s the nearest window?” Janus asked when they came out on the second floor.
Pat glanced at his hand. “There should be a couple a few feet that way.” Janus nodded and left them standing there. When he glanced out of the first window he came to, it appeared to be night. Yet, when he walked to the next window, he saw daylight.
26606
“Time is fracturing,” Janus informed them. “We need to be careful.” This time distortion was much more intense than any of the other ones the agency had been tracking down over the last few months. It had also come on much faster. Usually there was some time between when the time distortion began and it started having extreme effects on the environment. He was suddenly very glad that he and Remus had not split up today. He was even glad for Pat’s company, no matter how aggravating he may be sometimes. Not to mention, he was glad for the man’s technology that seemed to circumvent whatever was blocking Janus and Remus’s timepieces.
He backed away from the windows and returned to the others.
“Whatever you do,” Janus said. “Don’t let anyone be in a room alone.”
“I know what time fractures are this time,” Pat promised.
“It was as much for the idiot as it was for you,” Janus said.
“You accidently bring a bubonic plague infested rat to 900BC one time and you never live it down.”
“I’d say I should put a leash on you, but you’d twist it into something disgusting.”
“Probably,” Remus agreed.
“Where next?” Janus asked, ignoring him.
“That way,” Pat said.
They walked together to the door he’d indicated. “Please don’t be bullshit,” Janus prayed. He opened the door and immediately got bowled over by a stream of salt water.

I WATCHED GOOD OMENS IN FRENCH SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO
and it wasn’t that bad. Here are my thoughts, barely edited as I wrote most of them while watching the show.
EP 1
OK i like god’s voice so far
possibilité d’embarras gastrique is a good formulation, I wonder if it’s the same in the book ( I think I kinda need to read it in french now...)
aghghdhgs « primo-délinquants »
of course subtitles don’t match the audio for a variety of technical reasons but when you get things that have very different underlying meanings i find it… not good This one about Crowley being evil / a demon : subtitles : « c’est ton travail » - « it’s your job » audio : « c’est dans ta nature » - « it’s in your nature » i mean dang
crowley sounds like a little shit asking az about his sword
« T’AS FAIT QUOUA » - he just loses his shit (kinda giving me some le coeur a ses raisons vibe)
ok crowley sounds very nerdy when he tries to explain that he took down the phone network, i think i actually like this voice acting
ligur sounds… very suave (im a little ill at ease)
crowley getting called mon chou by satan freddie mercury is a thumb up from me
i see the part where aziraphale speaks japanese wasn’t dubbed over and we can still hear michael sheen. it’s a bit disturbing considering french aziraphale has a higher pitched voice (and he sounds soooo much more anxious than sheen, give this angel a xanax )
“sandwich bœuf cresson” ( beef and cress sandwich ) deirdre really who makes this kind of sandwiches
im being reminded that the chattering nuns prepared little cut outs for their explanation about the antichrist switch… such dedication to useless crafts (it made me laugh on my first viewing and it’s still funny to imagine that some of them either ordered or built these things themselves just so they could make this two minutes long presentation for the most important act of their satanic nun careers)
retire-toi vil démon infernal, créature des abysses XD i swear az doesn’t sound even remotely convinced when he is saying the « get thee behind me foul fiend » line in french, it’s just too over the top for credibility, it sounds like it’s straight out of some super intense dnd session
they still can’t say bouillabaisse (which, like, weird because french, but still valid). nice touch is crowley couldn’t say soupe de poisson (fish stew) either and said poupe de soisson (sish ftew)
warlock mah boy how can you be a teenager and not like dinosaurs
c’est un dinosaure un nullosaure plutôt - apply burn heal
La façon dont warlock s’est exclamé « C’EST NUL » m’a fait penser au nain de naheulbeuk
the english version has nothing on french speaking aziraphale for the second hand embarrassement during the magic tour. it’s over 9000 i literally hid my head in my jumper when he was presenting harry the bunny. Horrible experience, 0/20, would not recommend
EP 2
oooh agnes has a lovely voice !
why is young newton having such a quality dub for the three sentences he has to say
dick turpin’s name is jesse james (tbf dick turpin is not known AT ALL in france, i discovered him reading good omens)
shadwell is pure chaos (as expected). No particular accent for him though, the chaotic energy was probably enough. Would have made me laugh if he had like, a chti or a marseilles accent.
aziraphale is so fucking stressed out by crowley’s driving i thought he was gonna explode
« tu es un gentil garçon » => « you’re a nice boy » said az to crowley DANG THAT’S SO INFANTILIZING AZIRAPHALE YOU’RE TALKING TO A DEMON FROM HELL NOT TO PINOCCHIO
ARGH FIRST MON ANGE OF THE SERIES i’m hit straight in the heart
anathema’s mom doesn’t have a spanish / latino accent at all when talking in spanish…. why...
dog being called toutou is definitely adorable (it’s basically « doggy » but way cuter imo)
tickety-boo has become ça gaze. that’s valid. it’s corny but i still use it unironically from time to time so ... i stan
EP 3
« je répands la fomentation » « i’m here spreading foment » « quoi tu fais des crêpes au froment ?????? »  « what you’re making crêpes with wheat ??? » love the fact that we shoehorned in one more ref to crêpes
az called crowley mon cher camarade, unintentionnal communist propaganda ftw
« pas de repos pour les… bah, pour les bons » « no rest for the… good »  – az was so deflated about the ineptitude he realized he was saying, he felt zero percent commited to his sentence
i was wondering how they would play aziraphale not being able to speak french in the bastille and they opted to have him stutter a bit and say to his executionner « excuse me i’m anxious » XD
« vous êtes le 999e aristo à mourir par mes soins. Mais vous êtes le premier en costume beige » « you’re the 999th aristocrat I’m going to kill, but the first one in beige attire » yeah i guess now that az isn’t english anymore his most noticeable feature is his cream aesthetic
« c’est au cas où ça tournerait en eau de boudin » « j’ADORE le boudin » => « in case it all goes pear shape » - the literal translation featuring food in french is « turning into black sausage water ». I don’t know what pear shaped inspires to english native speakers but the mere mention of boudin always make me giggle, it’s such a funny word and such a funny food
OH !!! no terrence rampa for the tv series, we’ve got anthony J. rampa. Rip terrence petit démon parti trop tôt :’(
« tu roules trop vite pour moi rampa » SERIOUSLY i know we can still infer « rouler » (here as in driving, but literally rolling) as a metaphor for their relationship but you could have said TU VAS TROP VITE that would have been so much better argh
has anathema got an emergency stock of potteries to break in case of emotionnal crisis ?
« Rampa, un démon très futé, il m’oblige à redoubler d’effort » « crowley, a very clever demon, he forces me to make double the amount of effort » oh so admitting you’re making an effort there aziraphale ? :))))))
dang i really want to know how shadwell said that major milk bottle died because not only did he die in combat but aziraphale’s reaction is a bit intense, it must have been quite a tale (this could be a crack fic prompt : «The Epic Tale of the Death Of Major Witchfinder Milk Bottle, by Sargent Witchfinder Shadwell» )
des sorcières et des phénomènes sorciéreux x)
CROWLEY CALLED AZIRAPHALE DUCON ?????? EXCUSE ME ????? #NotMyCrowley #CrowleyWouldNeverDoThat  #CancelAnthonyJRampa2K20  => ducon would be an insult, the gathering of du and con, con being a very nasty but common swear word, and associating it with du- makes it extremely patronizing. it’s like « absolute pathetic digraceful moron +++ ». thanks i hate it *frowny face *
EP 4
l’apocalypse c’est pour aujourd’hui juste après le goûter : it could be translated as « apocalypse is scheduled for today right after tea time » except that « goûter » is not quite tea time but rather the little sugary snack kids take when they come back from school and that most adults drop out of (i haven’t and i’m sure az hasn’t either). thanks aziraphale for having exclusively food related notion of the time because tbh same
ligur has no right to be this sexy between ariyon bakare and his french voice actor that’s just not allowed
radio crowley’s voice vs french ligur’s voice, who has the sexiest voice : FIGHT
(jk french agnes nutter’s voice is by far the sexiest)
gender neutral doesn’t ‘quite’ exist in french but pollution has been assigned a female voice actress and masculine pronouns (i’m saying it doesn’t quite exist because officially we have no gender neutral, but it’s a serious wip among lgbt+ circles to the point where it’s started being used in a few medias)
hastur « en attendant qu’un plombier vienne » / « while waiting for a plumber to come » does hell have a special plumber unit or do demons have to call on human plumbers for their pipes damages ? Dang hastur having to call a human plumber for hell’s plumbery is another damn good writing prompt for a crack fic
Michael is called Michel in the subtitles but Michael in the audio *shrug emoji*
EP 5
to get a wiggle on has become « il faut qu’on se remue les fesses », literally « we need to shake our butts » like, yes, se remuer les fesses is a common expression to say « we need to act in order to get things done » but it really casts the image of people shaking their booty to some music and obviously crowley thinks the same Weirdly enough I have almost nothing to say for that episode. Sorry. But we’ve discovered most voice actors and actresses so far and no bit of dialogue really struck me as worth discussing or pointing fingers to mock it.
EP 6
« on va BROUTER quelques derrières » - « we’re gonna lick some butts » OK THIS IS UNQUESTIONNABLY FAR SUPERIOR IN FRENCH THAN IN ENGLISH you thought LICKING butts was good ??? you really thought that ???? AZIRAPHALE HERE SUGGESTS TO GRAZE BUTTS. TO NIBBLE THEM. TO EAT THEM. TO. MUNCH. ON. THOSE. BUTTS!!!! not just licking, guys. This is as serious step beyond licking. (oh yeah he should have said « botter » instead of brouter btw, which is really just kicking, fyi)
« moi je crois en la paix, pétasse ! » wow, language, pepper (fyi i think « pétasse » is far far worse than « bitch » even if it means roughly the same, pétasse is almost never used while bitch is rather common, so it’s a swear word +++)
Dagon sounds like she’s got a nasty cold. #GetDagonIbuprofen2K20
I can confirm that Crowley offers Aziraphale to not just stay at his place, but to move in with him. « tu peux t’installer chez moi si tu veux ». omg they were roommates.
Bad translation strikes again : i don’t know why, but the french dub doesn’t have the « tickety-boo » / « ça gaze » being referenced as Rampa / Aziraphale is being knocked down, which is… a real mistep. It was narratively significant and I’m quite mad the translators missed it.
The Jesse James explanation from Newt has become very nonsensical, instead of the neat and to the point pun « wherever I go I hold up trafic » we’re getting a circonvoluted « because it’s a crime to mechanic’s diligence ». I’m not judging that one too hard, I have no idea how to make it better, and that’s probably how it was translated in the book as well thirty years ago, but it definitely doesn’t have the same impact. On the other hand, it definitely IS a very bad joke that doesn’t even deserve a chuckle, so Anathema’s embarassement really matches the audience’s (aka mine).
OVERALL :
I wasn’t convinced by Crowley… I mean, Rampa’s voice at first, but as the nerdiness showed up it really grew on me. I still think that french dubs have often problems with some voice inflexions every here and there, and for instance in Rampa’s case it was when he was annoyed or frustrated ( at the Globe when complaining about horses and Shakespeare’s plays that aren’t comedies, and also when discussing Azirphale’s magic tricks, it’s like… there is a step between having the right amount of grumpy complaining and overdoing it that is overlooked. It’s overacted, it should have been a bit quieter imo. I don’t mean to criticize voice actors too hard either but as an audience watching french dubs this is a very recurring problem and it always feels off to me. It’s actually one of the main reasons I avoid french dubs whenever possible.)
I have a hard time judging Aziraphale’s voice dub because it clashes so much with both the idea I had formed with it when I read the book and Sheen’s delivery that I just… kinda filtered it. It was too high pitched for me, and too anxious (though for this last point I must admit it could be funny at times, but I’m not fond of this character portrayal). The rest of the cast was rather good, nothing to complain about. There wasn’t anything stellar either, but everything that needed to be conveyed was and it was professionnal. It was also very homogeneous, no voice really struck me as being way too bad or way too good compared to the others, so it was really consistant.
So I don’t have much to complain about overall despite a few wonky translations here and there, BUT there is one thing I felt very robbed of : Crowley calling Aziraphale « mon ange » happens only once, when giving a lift to Anathema, and I’m almost certain they translated it that way because otherwise the joke about Anathama mistaking them for a couple wouldn’t work. So, they were forced to make it that way. The rest of the time Crowley calls Aziraphale « l’angelot », and despite being literally translated by « little angel », it feels sarcastic more than anything else ( the « L’ » in front of « angelot » is part of the reason why, it creates some distance, the other reason being that this word in itself has a very corny vibe and people being affectionnate to each other wouldn’t use it as a term of endearment). So, that’s a shame.
I like the English dub much much MUCH better than the French, but the french wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. The voice actors and actresses were quite good, the dialogues mostly faithful and endearing despite a few really missed steps. It really had its moments. Props to brouter des derrières, that one was fantastic.

A/N: Hey everybody, Omens here. This series is part of my series for the (Y/N)’s. These works are here to establish the backgrounds, personalities, and such of each of my (Y/N)’s, as they’re all separate characters and not a blank slate.
So far, I’m doing my three most popular requested ones which are; Hanzo, Mcree, and Genji. This is Mcree’s. I’m sure these works will have about 3-4 chapters each, with the first being the beginning of their life, to the last being present time. That being said, you don’t have to default to these (Y/N)’s either. If you have a request that’s specific like
‘Mcree with an S/O who has a body like Genji?’. I will easily do that. These (Y/N)’s are just the default if you request something vague such as ‘Mcree goes on a date with (Y/N).’ and such.
However, I do have placeholder names for each of these characters. If you would like a request with this specific (Y/N) you can use (Y/N)!Ambrose. Sorry if this was confusing but :)
                            |  Chapter 2 -  Dirty Shoes|
Chapter Summary: They say your childhood flies by faster than your adulthood. That is true. They say that you should do the things you enjoy while your young. That is also true.
They also say that there’s no such thing as monsters under your bed. That’s not true.
!WARNING! This work contains graphic depictions of violence, foul language, and other sensitive topics. Reader discretion is advised.

Your entire life, you had spent it being common. You had a 'common' sob story of losing your parents in the omnic crisis. You had the 'common' new blood mark. You wanted to be special, you wanted people to notice you. You didn't know that this wish would cost your humanity, however.
!WARNING! This chapter contains blood, violence, and death. Please proceed with caution.

It was 9:30 at night when you had received the call from Holland. You had just gotten home to your small apartment which you shared with your (crappy) roommate. The familiar made you pull the phone from your pocket immediately.
"Yeah?"
"Hey (Y/N)! It's been a while, huh?"
You chuckle, twirling your car keys on your ring finger. "Yeah." You began, leaning against the door. "College has been busy, how have you been?" You ask, recognizing the voice immediately, your day improving instantly from this call.
"Ah, I've been better," Holland says. "I've been so busy, so I figured I wanted to go down to a bar to loosen up a little. Wanna come?"
"Sure, which one?"
"Lilac Gardens."
"The one that opened up two months ago?"
"Hell yeah, a lot of people are saying their food is good, and apparently most of their staff are nice to look at too."
You roll your eyes, turning around and grabbing the door handle.
You're halfway out the door when you ask; "I'm guessing you want to go now?"
"Hell yeah I do, I wanna pick up some chicks."
You fake a gagging noise, locking the door behind you. "Don't ever say that again, please."
"So, you want me to meet you there?"
"I bet I can beat you." You say.
Holland laughs.
"You're forgetting I can walk really fast."
"And you're forgetting that I own a car." You retort as Holland sputters over the phone before hanging up.
                                                                _
Just as you expected, you showed up at the bar before Holland did. Not that he minded, of course, it would be fun to tease Holland for being late.
Soon, you see a bus roll up across the street, various passengers coming off. There, you see Holland in all his glory, just as you expected.
Same pale skin, with freckles littering his face, same round eyes, flushed cheeks, and bright cyan hair. He's wearing a nice jean jacket, a white and black striped shirt, with jeans and Adidas. His face immediately brightens as he crosses the street and sees you.
"Since when did you drive?" He asks as he wraps an arm around your shoulders.
"Since I got my driver's license back sophomore year of college." You reply, rustling his hair.
You two enter the rustic bar, taking a seat as Holland orders two drinks.
"So, has college been pummeling you into the ground?" Holland asks.
You shrug. "Well...kinda. Speaking in front of the class still makes me nervous...but I'm gonna have to do it if I wanna be an art history teacher."
Holland leans back in the chair, sighing.
"Hm, the exact opposite of me then," He muses. "I've been buried in work, might as well dig my own grave with the papers I still have to finish."
You shake your head as the glasses are passed to you two.
You down the drink in one gulp, as Holland, mimics you. The two of you slam your glasses on the counter, as Holland chuckles.
"So, other than college kicking us in the ass, how have you been?"
You shrug.
"Pretty good I guess. Roommate's nice."
Holland frowns.
"Okay, he sucks ass, but he helps pay rent so, y'know. He stays."
"Thank god he does. If he didn't I would've hauled his ass into the nearest dumpster."
You snort.
"He's three times your size."
"So? No man is safe from a kick in the balls."
This time, you laugh, throwing your head back in the process.
"Have you called your moms yet?"
Holland scoffs. "Have I? No, have they? Yes, every day."
Holland shakes his head.
"I love them really, it's mainly just them showing me their dog doing stupid stuff like barking at the wall." Holland pauses. "What about yours?"
There's hesitance. Holland raises an eyebrow.
"(Y/N)?"
Your face contorts. "It's just...Mrs.Parkiston is in the hospital."
Holland's eyes widen. "Oh god. I'm sorry (Y/N). Why didn't you tell me?"
You shrug. "Didn't wanna bother you. She'll be fine, she's tough as nails."
Holland frowns. "Are you sure...you don't wanna talk about it?"
You nod slightly, swirl your drink around in your hand, watching the ice swim in circles.
Holland nods his head slowly and asks for a refill.
"Woah there, don't wanna make yourself drunk, Holls."
"Hey now, I'm a grown man. I can handle a drink or two."
This time, it's you who shakes your head.
                                                          _
"Damn, it's almost midnight," Holland mutters, gesturing to his watch. "Think we should call it a night?"
"Depends. Do you have classes tomorrow?"
"Only one, but it's at 5ish."
"Ha! I have no classes, so why don't we go somewhere else?"
"Like a movie?"
"With you and your loud mouth? We'd get kicked out during the movie trailers." You tease, and Holland huffs. You place your card on the counter, and spin around, surveying the rest of the bar. It's mostly empty, minus the small frail woman on the couch in the far corner of the room.
You raise an eyebrow, upon seeing the woman being approached by a man. Your nose crinkles as the man practically forces the woman to her feet and begins to walk out the door with the man.
\You pause, as the man turns to you, and for a second you feel your heart drop to your stomach, your skin turning cold. The man's eyes are wide, the lighting surely makes them red, and the blood veins are bright as ever. The minute this man looks away, that feeling is gone.
"Hey Holland, are you done yet?" You ask, trying to not stumble over your words, as you take your card back from the barista.
Holland turns to you. "Yeah, why?"
"Did that woman enter the bar with anyone?"
Holland pauses, as you gesture to the woman who's giggling and nearly falling to her feet, just outside the door.
"Uh...No?"
The woman is pulled away and the two begin to walk down the street, past the window. Holland turns to you.
"I know that look (Y/N)."
You're already out the door as Holland races to catch up with you, as you walk down the street, eyes peeled.
"(Y/N), she probably called someone to pick her up-"
"I don't know, Holland. That guy looked at me, and his eyes were all...all bloodshot! I felt so cold, you don't get like that looking at somebody-"
"(Y/N), you're probably just a bit tipsy-"
"I had two drinks-"
The two of you pause before you hear a shout escape through the air. Holland freezes, exchanging a look with you.
"Don't you dare-!"
Before he finishes you take off running towards the sound of the scream. Holland is shouting behind you, but you don't hear it as you slide to a stop on the outside of the alleyway.
You feel your jaw become slacked, your gaze fixated on the black heels on a woman's legs. The legs twitch once. The figure above the body making smacking noises as they lay hunched over her upper body.
"H-hey!" You shout.
The man turns around, and your eyes go wide. Red drips down the man's mouth, and you know damn well that the man's teeth is much longer than normal. His eyes are beet red, pupils blown wide, and his skin is so pale, it's practically white and glittering off of the flickering street light above you.
You slowly peer down at the woman's face, your heart pounding in your chest. Two holes are in the woman's neck, more blood pooling down the wounds and onto the concrete below. Her eyes are wide and glossed over.
"W-what the hell did you do!" You shout, the man doesn't move.
You hear footsteps behind you.
"(Y/N)? Seriously, just-Holy shit!"
Holland stumbles at the scene before you. As the man slowly stands up.
He's muttering under his breath as Holland grips your shoulder.
"Y-Y/N, we should...we should get outta here-!"
The man screeches before launching at you two. One hand coming forward to grasp your plaid shirt, and the other grabbing Holland by his hair. The two of you are thrown into the alleyway, and Holland screeches as he lands on the woman's body.
He scrambles, practically on top of you.
"Oh god, we're gonna die...(Y/N) we're gonna die-" Holland trembled.
"We're not gonna die, Holland." You hiss.
The man, who has blood dripping onto his t-shirt, hisses.
You shove Holland to the side, and the man slams face-first into the dumpster. There are two holes where his teeth were, and you look around the area.
Your hands dart across the ground, scrambling to find something of use, and your fingertips brush against something. You pull out a....bag...from under the dumpster?
"Look out-!"
The man screeches and dives at Holland this time, Holland cries out as he's wrestled onto the floor. His legs kick out, and all over the place, trying to kick the man off. Holland has his arms on the man's shoulders, who lashes out and snaps at him like a dog.
"Call the cops (Y/N) holy shit!"
You reach into your pocket, but don't feel your phone nor your car keys. "They're gone!"
"What-"
Holland screams as the man snaps at his face.
"Then just do something!" Holland yells.
You tear open the bag and with that, your eyes widen.
"What the hell..." You mutter, grabbing the piece of wood and grasping it in your hand. There's a strange symbol on the top of it. You don't recognize any of it.
The man stops, snapping his head towards you so harshly that you hear it. You make eye contact with the man, but this time you don't freeze. The wood feels hot in your hand, almost driving away the cold, and your entire body seems to get a rush from this.
The man jumps at you, your eyes flicker to the wood.
You're slammed into the wall by the man, who shouts when you plunge the wood directly into his shoulder. You pull it out again as he staggers back. His eyes go fully red, and you hear cracking noises.
"Holl-"
The man- no, this thing attacks you again, grabbing your wrist and twisting.
You shout out as the wood drops from your hands, and the man wrestles you to the ground. Jaw snapping.
"Ah! Holland do something!"
There isn't a response from Holland at first, but the man pauses for a second, sputtering. You cry out as you see the pierced end of the stake go through the man's chest, forcing blood onto your clothes.
You shove the man's body off of you. This thing sputters, his eyes slowly meeting your own.
He reaches a frail hand out before you hear the blood drip onto the concrete, and his bloody hands smear finger marks on your cheek. The man collapses onto the ground.
Holland breathes out heavily.
"Holy...did...did I just kill that guy!"
"You...You didn't mean to! Right?"
"Of-of course not! He kept moving too much and I just went for it I-" Holland grabs fistfuls of his hair. "Holy fuck (Y/N)! Now we're screwed, we're so screwed!"
For a moment, you're stunned. There's blood on you, you know there's blood on you.
"We...We should call someone." You quavered, feeling your body tremble as you step back into the wall.
"And tell them what? 'Hey my friend and I just got back from a bar and killed a guy who killed a woman! Ooh! And we also killed him with a fucking stake from Home Depot!"
You make a face at Holland, who gestures wildly at the wood.
"I don't know (Y/N)! I could go to jail for this, we're ruined-! So ruined-"
"Holland calm down."
"Calm down!" Holland roars. "Don't you dare tell me to calm down-!"
Holland pauses, the anger turning to shock, eyes going wide.
"(Y/N)?"
You raise an eyebrow and slowly turn towards the bodies. The man's body slowly becomes bright, before it fades to dust, leaving his destroyed clothes behind. Just as the man's body disappears, the woman does as well. Not leaving any trace of evidence behind. The concrete is clean of any blood.
"What. the. Fuck." Holland mutters. "This is some supernatural type shit."
There's a tense silence shared between you two. You grab the stake, and the bag, and swing it over your shoulder.
"C'mon."
"What-"
"We're leaving, now."
Holland's eyes widen.
"Holland, let's go!"
You harshly grab his wrist as you two run down the street, you see Holland's gaze never leave the alleyway as you two run. Before he faces the ground, his lower lip is bitten. If you didn't know any better, you'd say he was on the verge of tears.
                                                       _
You slam the front door to your apartment, and let out heavy breaths.
"Now...now what." Holland whispers. "Are we going insane or something? Maybe...Maybe we had too much to drink?"
While Holland tries to rationalize what just happened, you sigh and shut your eyes.
You softly guide Holland to the couch right to the door. He sits down, hands over his mouth, eyes flicking left and right.
You place the bag on the coffee table before you.
Holland puts his head in his hands as you turn to the bag. Curiosity gets the better of you, and you slowly unzip the bag.
"Jesus, what the hell is all of this?" You ask, slowly grabbing the large wooden cross with your left hand, and a smaller stake with your right.
Holland slowly uncovers his face.
Holland shoves past you, whilst you shout out a 'Hey!'. You reach into the bag and pull out a white bottle, as well as a rolled-up piece of paper.
"Holy water?" Holland mutters, as he places it on the coffee table and unravels the paper.
He snickers. "Jeez, d&d nerd much?"
He nudges you in the side, as you raise an eyebrow.
"Why is that guy on a wanted poster."
You crinkle your nose. "Jeez, they really did him wrong. Look at his nose."
Holland smiles. "look...his teeth too."
"Cain Soloman." Holland reads. "Vampire lord....19 grand for live...capture..."
Holland tosses the paper onto the coffee table.
"I'd say that was a load o' bull, but...you know I'd be lying."
You place the stake and the cross down.
"Is there anything else in there?" Holland began. You shrug, opening the bag wide.
"Nope, that's it."
Holland shakes his head.
"Who would leave a backpack with all of this stuff under a dumpster anyways though?"
"It's not a backpack."
"Then why does it look like one?"
You let out an exasperated sigh.
"Do you...really think that thing was a vampire?" You ask, hesitantly.
"Probably." Holland leans back, head aimed towards the ceiling. "Makes sense. The eyes, teeth, super strength, dead woman with the two holes in her neck."
"But Holland-"
"He turned into dust after you stabbed him, that woman disappeared too, blood and all!" Holland adds. "Holy crap we're in deep!"
"I always wanted to be a sorcerer when I was a kid and fight monsters, but I didn't think that'd actually happen," Holland mutters.
Holland groans and puts his hands on his face again, as you turn to the bag. You pick it up and zip it up again, fingers lightly brushing the stitched symbol on the top.
"Hey, Holland. Recognize this?"
Holland sits up and stares at the golden stitch and shrugs. "I'm a doctor (Y/N). Isn't this up to your alley?"
You scoff.
"I was just asking for a second opinion," You reply. "It's not Egyptian. I can tell you that. Definitely not kanji either."
"Then what the hell is it?"
You analyze for a moment, your eyes going wide.
"Latin maybe?"
"It looks like a really straight 'M'."
You pout as Holland throws his hands in front of his chest.
"What! It does?"
You shake your head, opening the bag again.
"C'mon, let's put this stuff away."
"And then what?"
"I'll just toss it in the trash tomorrow."
"Alright." Holland whispers. "Then what?"
You sigh.
"I...we should just pretend it didn't happen?"
There's a silence shared between the two of you, as Holland fidgets, but slowly nods his head.
"yeah...I...I guess so."
Silence again.
"You uh...wanna stay over?" You ask, hesitantly.
"Yeah, I...I'd like that. Don't wanna get attacked by any uh..vengeful vampires right?"
"...right..."
"Right."
                                                          _
It's about 6:50 in the morning, and you still haven't gotten any sleep. You hear Holland tossing and turning in the sleeping bag on the floor next to your bed. You aren't sure if he's asleep or not, but don't want to bother him and risk waking him up if you do ask.
Instead, you stare at the ceiling, eyes never leaving the fan that blows a soft, cool breeze onto your face.
You put a hand over your eyes as the sun peaks through the cracks of your curtains. It seems that sleep is escaping you tonight. So, you sit up, stretch and swear you hear your back crack as you do so.
You carefully roll out of bed, tip-toeing over Holland. Making your way towards the bathroom, you turn the light on.
You make eye contact with yourself in the mirror before letting out a shout and stumbling backward.
Holland bursts upright as you make contact with the floor.
"Wh-what! I'm up!"
"Why do I have a tattoo?"
"What are you talking about-HOLY SHIT!"
Holland makes eye contact with your chest, seeing the three large, black rings plastered on your left pec.
"Uh, okay then," Holland mutters. "Did you have...have that last night?"
"No." You cry out, sitting up and turning to him. "And I- oh Jesus you have one too-!"
"I'm sorry wh-holy hell I do-!"
You gesture to the very large eye tattoo on Holland's shoulder.
"Did-did you feel anything strange before you went to bed?" Holland mutters.
"No! No I didn't...did you?"
"No! I fell right asleep!"
Your fingers softly trace the eye on Holland's shoulder.
"This...could this be from last night?"
"Unless there's a boogeyman who likes to give random strangers weird tattoos while they're sleeping, I-"
The two of you freeze as you hear the doorbell ring. You make eye contact as you scramble to get to your feet. You pull on a pair of sweatpants and an undershirt, while Holland looks out the window.
"Oh shit, are those the cops."
Your eyes widen.
"Oh fuck me! Those are the cops!" Holland yells. "Well, it's been nice knowing you, pal. Hopefully, we'll be roommates in prison!"
You roll your eyes as you open the bedroom door, and make your way down the stairs. You hear another set of footsteps behind you.
However, as your hand ghosts over the doorknob, you see Holland in the hallway, hands over his mouth. He motions for you to go forward as he hides behind the wall further.
You scoff, muttering 'pussy' under your breath before you open the door.
The man and the woman turn to you, eyes widen.
"You're (Y/N) Parkinston? Correct?"
You nod. "Yes, I am."
"Good...Good. Can we come in?"
You step aside, letting the two enter the apartment.
The woman smiles.
"Ah! There's your bag!" She chippers as she races towards the bag and lifts it up.
She then pauses.
"Who opened this?"
You freeze, as the two people turn to you.
"I...uh...I-"
"I did it!" Holland calls out. "He-he had nothing to do with it I swear!"
The man and woman pause. The woman opens the bag and immediately pulls out the stake, eyes widening at the dried blood on the tip.
"You did this?"
Holland hesitantly nods, before the man narrows his gaze at Holland.
The woman turns to the man. "I can't find the contract."
"Means it's been completed. By civilians nonetheless."
The woman scoffs. "This is gonna be a tone of paperwork, Jason."
Jason grins.
The woman frowns.
"Jason. No."
"What? He's got a marking anyways."
The woman pauses, turning to Holland, and nearly drops the bag in shock. She shoves past you, rather rudely at that, and you narrow your gaze at this.
She grabs Holland by the arms and examines the eye tattoo.
"This is! This is the eye! Oh my gosh, it's been so long since I've seen a new blood with one of these!"
Holland raises an eyebrow.
The woman turns to you.
"Did you...get one by any chance?"
You hesitantly nod, pulling your undershirt down to show the rings. However, the woman frowns.
"Aw." But her grin comes back again.
"New bloods! It's been so long since there have been new bloods?"
Holland raises an eyebrow as you fidget.
"New...bloods?"
The woman giggles. "You see, we are monster hunters!"
Silence goes through the apartment.
"And...?"
Jason groans. "And, whenever a new monster hunter or hunters, in this case, is chosen, they are given a marking that explains their best abilities."
He gestures to Holland. "You, have the eye symbol. It means your powerful, confident, independent. It's rare to see a new blood be gifted one of those."
He then turns to you. You fidget slightly.y
"You have the rings. Fairly common, typically means teamwork, marriage, and all that jazz."
"Wait wait wait. Backup a minute." You interrupt. "So, monsters are real?"
"Yes," Tassy said.
"And we just killed one. So that makes us monster hunters."
Jason nods.
"Holy crap." You mutter.
"Congratulations! Pack your stuff boys, and make sure to travel lightly, because it's safer for you to stay on base!"
"Why's that?"
"You could get mauled by a werewolf...sacrificed to a vengeful god by an evil cult...made into a thrall by a vampire, the list goes on and on," Tassy says.
"Jesus Christ," Holland mutters.

Creep- FFVII Biggs X Reader Chapter 10/?
summary: you get on the bad side of one of Don Corneo’s men and now you have a target on your back.
Warnings: sexual harassment
A/N: Sorry this chapter is late! hopefully that extra chapter made up for it though. on a side note - I feel so gross writing this level of fluff
Tumblr media
Staying at Jessie's was surprisingly less stressful than you thought. Since she had to finish the bomb for tomorrow's mission, she was much more no-nonsense then usual. It was a weird side of her to see, her only making jokes and teasing half as often as usual, and even then, she didn't carry anything on. It was both nice, since you and Biggs have been her main targets recently, and a little unsettling. Maybe something was wrong with her?
As soon as you had got to her house, (and after she flirted with the mercenary) she heated up a quick little meal for the both of you, though you insisted you weren't that hungry as her mother had just done the same. She didn't listen, and you couldn't complain; it was really good. She definitely got that skill from her mother.
After that, she got her room ready for the two of you to sleep in. Once Biggs found out that the two of you would share her bed instead of one of her roommates' beds, he tried to argue his way onto the couch. He didn't think it was right to take her bed, and it just made more sense for you and her to share it instead of you and him. You knew from the previous night not to argue about it, though you did feel guilty taking her bed too. Jessie stayed firm. "Because you're my guests!" She said, but you could see that devious little smirk on her face.
She made sure to acquaint you with her room, bathroom, and kitchen, since she would need to concentrate that night and didn't want to be disturbed with an onslaught of questions. With that, she permitted you to use anything of hers you needed. Then, she gave you both a pair of clean clothes to wear to bed (Biggs recieved an ex's old clothes) and she would later wash your dirty clothes for tomorrow's mission.
After all that was done, and in lightning speed since she had work to do, she sat down at her kitchen table, readying supplies to finish the bomb. Biggs observed this, watching her carefully until she noticed his not-too-subtle gaze.
"I'm going to finish making this bad-boy, and then I'm going to bed," she started, "You two should get some sleep, too. You've got an early morning ahead of you."
"That's a good idea," you replied, turning on your heels to get ready for bed. Biggs, on the other hand, kept his eyes glued her hands as they fiddled with the wiring.
"Do you need any help?" He asked her, and she stared at him a moment before giving him a quizzical look.
"I appreciate the offer, but... do you actually know anything about bomb making?"
"Well... no," he said. You couldn't help but notice how strange he was acting.
"Biggs," you said, and he finally turned to you. His eyes were filled to the brim with worry, about tomorrow's mission no doubt. His overthinking was no secret to anyone, though he only ever showed it when it got really bad. Now was one of those times. You placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to ease some of his nervous tension, "We should probably get some sleep. If we want to do our best on the mission tomorrow, we need to get some rest."
"Yeah, Y/N's right. I think I can handle this alone, but thanks for the offer."
He stared into your eyes, and then looked back at Jessie, before nodding silently. You held onto his arm as the two of you entered Jessie's room, closing the door behind you.
"You're worried about tomorrow, aren't you?" You asked. He stayed silent for a moment, taking a seat on the bed and taking a deep breath. You followed him to the bed.
"Y/N, do you believe in omens?" He asked. You were taken aback by the question.
"Well... I don't know," you sat down beside him, "I'm guessing you do?"
"I don't know," he said, and you laughed softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. It was still so tense.
"Then you shouldn't have to worry."
"Just... so many things have gone wrong recently, I can't help but feel like it's a sign for something worse to come. I don't want anything to happen on tomorrow's mission."
"There's only so much in our control. We can try our best to prepare but we can't change the inevitable," you brought your hand down onto one of his own, squeezing slightly, "but I guess that won't stop you from trying, right?"
"It hasn't before," he said, eyes glancing down at you hand over his own. And he was silent for a moment more, no doubt battling the thoughts in his head, "It'll probably be fine. I did plan it, after all."
"Humble," you laughed, then there was a pause. Both of you needed to get some sleep, but both of you smelled pretty bad, too. The two of you had worked up a real sweat on Jessie's mission, "I know what'll make you feel better: a hot shower. Besides, you need one. You smell like ass."
"You don't smell too hot yourself," he replied, and finally there was a smile on his face.
"I know, I'll get one after you."
So Biggs took his shower, which did help him feel better, and then you took one next. Jessie's bathroom was surprisingly nice for a bathroom in the slums. She had a lot of expensive products, gifts from her mother, apparently. And she said you could use any of them you wanted, you smiled, she may regret that later.
In the end, though, you felt too guilty to abuse the privilege, only using what was necessary. Her shampoo and conditioner quickly became your favorite. They were salon brand, and after the shower you could really tell the difference. Too bad they were so expensive, or else you'd buy your own bottles. After that, you put on a set of clothes Jessie let you borrow and then blow dried you hair.
Then, you picked up one of the new, sealed toothbrushes Jessie had picked up for you and Biggs before the mission. After opening the package, you wet the brush under the sink. Picking up the toothpaste, you squeezed some onto the brush. There was a knock on the door.
"What do you need?" You asked.
"It's Jessie. I've got to take off my makeup."
You opened the door, stepping back so that she could have access to the sink while you brushed your teeth.
"Have fun on the mission tonight?" She asked, taking out her makeup remover and cotton pads from behind the mirror.
"Yeah, almost dying was a real blast," you said dryly.
"C'mon you didn't almost die," she shot a look back at you.
"Yes I did."
"When?"
"When I was thrown off the bike,"
"Oh... yeah, sorry about that," she wet the cotton pad and then placed it over her eye, "how's your hip?"
"It still hurts," you mumbled, mouth filled with foam.  There was a beat of silence.
"Thanks for going with me," she said, another beat of silence, "I didn't want a repeat of the last mission... I don't want any more blood on my hands."
You moved to the sink to spit the froth out of your mouth.
"We share that blood, Jessie."
"But I made the bomb," she said, trying to say it as monotone as she could, as if it weren't hurting her, but you could tell it was.
"You didn't know the explosion was gonna be that big. You didn't want all of our work to go to waste."
She didn't say anything, instead taking out another cotton pad, wetting it with the makeup remover, and working to massage the eyeshadow away.
"Jessie,"
"Let's talk about something less depressing," she said, "so, you and Biggs?"
She plastered on a mischievous smile, but even her pro-acting skills couldn't hide that it was fake.
"This is eating away at you, isn't it?" You asked,  she took the cotton pad off of her eye and threw it away.
"Is it not eating away at you?"
"Well..." you thought about it a moment, "I've been blocking it out for a little while now."
"I've tried that... it hasn't worked."
You wrapped your arms around her from behind, and for few moments, she just stared at the scene in the mirror. Then her hand grasped around your forearm, which was around her shoulders.
"Gosh, Y/N, when did you become such a sap?" She said, halfway grinning through her words. You laughed, "You've been hanging around Tifa too much, she's rubbing off on you."
"Is that a bad thing?"
"No, no it's not."
You let go of her, but stayed in the bathroom to keep her company. After putting up her makeup remover, she pulled out a few more skincare products from her behind her mirror.
"I know I tease you a lot, but I want you to know that I really care about you, Y/N." She said, completely unprompted.
"I know, Jessie. I care about you too."
"Sap."
—————————————————————
As you entered Jessie's room, you noticed Biggs was fooling with the alarm clock on the bedside table, trying to set it to 6:00 am. Oh, how fun it was gonna be to wake up that early.
You slid into bed as he did that, waiting for him to turn off his light. You couldn't help but be reminded of last night, and though you enjoyed the feeling of being wrapped in his arms, you did NOT want to seem to eager. So you kept your distance, and soon the light turned off and Biggs got comfortable on his side of the bed too.
You stared up at the ceiling for a while, your mind replaying all that had happened recently. The past two days had been the most chaotic days you've ever lived. From the mission to the creep and his friends, the debacle with roche, and breaking into the Shinra warehouse, you've aged 10 years in a measly 48 hours.
That guy... the man you could only call "creep" or "pervert." You didn't know anything about him, but he knew your name and where you lived. He could be outside the house right now, getting ready to break in. You didn't want to think about it, so you pushed to to the corner of your mind. Besides, you had two of your best friends with you and they swore to protect you. You just hoped you could protect them, too.
The last 48 hours left you exhausted, and even though chaos and fear spread through every aspect of your life, creeping into every corner and crevice of your mind, you fell into a deep sleep as soon as you closed your eyes.
They were surrounding you, all of your harrasser's men, smiling and circling in on their prey. Then came the onslaught of profanities, obscenities more like, hurled at you. Just like this morning. Except this time, you were all alone.
But your friends promised they wouldn't leave your side. They promised, and yet they weren't here. You stood there, like a poor, defenseless sheep surrounded by a pack of wolves. The darkness only made it worse, as you couldn't make out the faces of your harassers, only their shadows. You were all alone.
You tried to scream for help, to call out the names of your friends, but it fell on deaf ears.
"Hey sweet cheeks, miss me?" A low, husky voice whispered into your ear. You jumped, turning around quick. He chuckled at your response. It was him, the creep from the train, "I thought you said you weren't scared of me?"
"I'm not," you said, though not convincing. He only laughed louder, taking a few methodical steps towards you. What has he doing? You took a few steps back to keep distance.
Then he rushed forward, grabbing your arms. You desperately tried to escape his strong grip, but failed.
"Don't touch me!" You screamed, still struggling in his grasp. Tears were falling down your cheeks now, so much for not showing fear. He let out another obnoxious laugh when he saw them.
"Wake up," he said, a large grin on his face. You furrowed your brows, still trying to tear away from him. What the hell did he just say?
"Don't touch me!" You screamed again, louder this time.
"Wake up," he repeated, and you still didn't understand what he meant. You managed to pry away one arm from his grasp.
"No! Get away from me!"
"Y/N, Wake up!" It wasn't the creep's voice this time. Your eyes shot open, and immediately sat up, breathing heavily. A hand fell on your arm and you jumped, quickly pulling away. Still surrounded by darkness, couldn't tell where you were, "Hey, it's ok, it's me."
You turned to the voice, eyes finally adjusting enough to where you could see a face in the darkness. It was Biggs. He reached out to touch you again, this time slowly as he watched for your reaction.
"It was just a dream, you're safe," He said, and once you finally realized that it was in fact a dream, and you were safe, you couldn't help the tears welling up in your eyes, "Come here."
Your cried into his chest, arms wrapped tightly around his body as you make sure he didn't disappear, that you weren't alone again. He held just as tight, his hand rubbing up and down your back as he whispered comforting words.
The door opened and the light to the room turned on. And then there was another pair of arms wrapped around you. Breath quickening again, you stiffened up in this person's grasp.
"It's just me, Y/N, it's Jessie," she whispered into your hair. You relaxed a bit once you realized it was just her.
"I-I can't live like this any more. It's gonna drive me crazy!" You admitted between sobs, "I've got to do something. I've got to end it."
"I'll kill him. I swear I'll kill him." Jessie said, and by the tone of her voice, she meant every word.
And you were so grateful to have your friends in that moment. They weren't going to ever leave you alone. You would never have to deal with that creep, or anything else for that matter, on your own. They had your back.
The three of you stayed that way for a while, Biggs rubbing circles into your back and Jessie brushing her fingers through your hair. They've never seen you so vulnerable before, almost no one has. And yet, even though your instincts told you to be ashamed, to be embarrassed even, you weren't. You trusted them, and that's what mattered.
Jessie and Biggs shared a look with each other over your shoulder, a look of fear, pain, but mostly rage at the man who made you like this. And though Biggs never said any words, his gaze told Jessie exactly what he was thinking. 'I'll kill him, too.'
Eventually, once you had calmed down enough and were no longer crying, Jessie took another glance at Biggs, he nodded to her. She slowly moved away from you, giving one more squeeze to your arm before heading back to her living room.
There was another moment's pause between you and him. Your face was still in his chest, as you weren't ready to leave his comfort just yet. He wasn't rushing you, though, his arms were still wrapped around you.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked.
"Not really."
"It might help."
You took a deep breath before moving away from his chest and looking him in the eyes. You were sure your own were still red and puffy.
"You already know what it's about."
"Humor me," he said, laying his back against the headboard. You moved to do the same, bringing your knees up to your chest.
"It was like what happened this morning, except it was dark and," you stopped, letting out a shaky breath. He wrapped his arm around your shoulder, "and I was all alone. It was just me and all those men, circling me like I was their prey.... I hate to think what's gonna happen if they catch me. I mean, killing me is one thing, but.... I think he wants to do worse."
Biggs' grip around your body grew even tighter, his jaw clenching at the mere thought. If that man did lay a finger on you, he'd kill him. No hesitation and no remorse.
"That's not ever gonna happen, and you're not alone. I'm not gonna leave your side until this is over, and I don't think Jessie, Tifa, Wedge, or Barrett will either," his hand rubbed up and down your arm reassuringly, "Not to mention all the guys in the neighborhood watch. They'd escort you everywhere if they found out about this, and knowing Barrett, they probably will. There's a lot of people that little pervert would have to kill in order to get to you."
"That's what I'm afraid of," you said, almost so quiet he couldn't hear it, "What if they hurt someone I care about? I couldn't live with it. All because I couldn't control myself on that train."
"That's not going to happen. Everything's going to be fine, I promise," he said, moving down to rest his head on the pillow again.
"I'm holding you to that," you said. He laughed, that familiar sound making your heart skip a beat. You slid down into bed, too, pulling the covers up to your chest.
"We should probably get some more sleep," he said, "Think you can after that?"
"I don't know..." you admitted.
"Come here." And just like last night, he welcomed you into his arms.
Your mind was still racing, but the gentle rhythm of Biggs' breath along with the patterns he drew on your back calmed your nervous system. He always made you feel less scared, less alone. And the promise he just made, you knew he would keep.
The nightmare had left you more exhausted than before you went to sleep, and soon your eyelids started to droop. You let them closed, and just before you surrendered to sleep, there was a kiss placed on the top of your head. You froze at the contact, and underneath, you felt him freeze too.
"I'm sorry, I hope I didn't cross a boundary just then," he whispered. You took a breath, finally relaxing back into his hold
"It's ok... It was sweet," you admitted. And after that, the both of you fell back into the same pattern. You fell asleep, and soon after, he did too.
—————————————————————
The alarm blared through Jessie's small room. Biggs gave the device a big smack over the top and fought his instinct to stay in bed. You were rousing too, but just barely. And you were too out of it to realize what situation you were currently in. All you knew was the the alarm was loud but the surface below you was warm, too warm to get up from.
Biggs looked down at your form, so peaceful he didn't want to wake you. But he had to. The mission was the most important thing right now, though whether he would ever get to hold you like that again was a close second.
There was a hand on your back, softly shaking and trying to rouse you. But you wouldn't get up, no, because you were so tired, and the surface below you was so warm.
"Wake up," a voice said, but your brain was functioning so slow; you hadn't registered the owner of the voice yet.
"No," you moaned, curling up further into the warm object. And then you recognized the voice, it was Biggs' voice. And the warmth was him too. And you just curled up into it.
You shot up, face going red when you realized what you had done. Your wide eyes met with his, just for a moment, before you turned away out of embarrassment. He let out a warm chuckle.
"I'm sorry, I-" you laughed nervously, "wow, this is so embarrassing..."
"Hey, don't sweat it," he said, placing a hand on your shoulder and squeezing, before getting up and heading towards the door, "besides, it was cute."
A small smile found its way on your lips; he called you cute.
And as he left the room to go get ready, he couldn't help but replay that moment in his head. Every time, his stomach fluttered.
Biggs handed you your clothes from the dryer and the two of you got ready in tandem. He changed in her room while you changed int he bathroom. Then he joined you in the cramped bathroom as both of you made yourselves presentable to leave the house. All the while, you kept quiet as not to disturb Jessie. She still had a while before she was needed for the mission.
What you didn't expect was to see her sitting at her kitchen table drinking a large mug of coffee. Her hair and makeup had already been done as well, giving her a very awake and alert look. It was just 6:30, why was she up this early?
"Hey guys!" She said, and you and Biggs stared at her a second longer, "I wanted to wish you two off. Y'know, incase I never see you again."
"Jessie!" The both of you said, accidentally in unison.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding," she laughed.
"You better be!" Biggs said, placing an arm on his hip.
"I did want to say goodbye though, and good luck. You're leaving pretty soon, right?"
"Yeah, we're just about to."
"Then get over here quick!" She said. The two of you approached her, and she went to Biggs first, hugging him around the neck. He slowly patted the girl's back in surprise. And then she turned to you, pulling you into an even longer hug than Biggs'.
"You two better make it back," she whispered in your ear before pulling away.
"That's the plan," you replied.
And after another quick goodbye, the two of you left for the sector 5 plate.

____________________________________________
Ben walked into the apartment, keys in hand and his coat in the other. He was just about to announce his presence when he saw her on the couch. She was sleeping, a blanket pulled up to her chin, an episode of Good Omen’s playing softly on the tv with her chest lifting and falling softly with her breath.  She was so beautiful. Even sleeping with drool coming out of her mouth and her hair scattered over her face she was still beautiful. And she was his roommate, and best friend.
He’d known her since middle school. During class one day, she’d gotten up to write something on the board and there was a red stain on the back of her shorts. The class started to giggle, and her face turned so red. When she hurried to sit back down, Ben slid off his jacket and handed it to her with a smile. And they’d been inseparably since.
Through high school, she’d gone to every rugby game and he went to all of her shows. Then, when he injured himself and was told he couldn’t play rugby competitively again, she stood by him and helped him through his anger and sadness. Through college, they were there for each other through every stressful final, heartbreak, and achievement. Now they shared a lease and a dog.
Friends were supposed to be there for each other. Through thick and thin. Friends weren’t supposed to be head over heels in love with heir best friend. They weren’t supposed to notice the way their eyes crinkled when they smiled, how their laugh made him feel like he was flying, how she completed every part of him that was incomplete.
He sighed to himself as she started to stir, moving to place his keys on the table. She blinked her eyes open and smiled at him.
“Hey, killer.” Her voice was heavy with sleep and she rubbed her eyes. “Is it snowing yet?”
She loved the snow, loved it more than anything. And it had yet to snow, leaving her feeling a little sad. But they lived in London, it would snow eventually.
“Hey, sleepyhead. How’re you feeling?” he returned, picking up her feet so he could sit next to her. “And no, it’s not.”
She sat up, wiggling her feet in his lap. “Better, how was your audition?”
He shrugged, giving a noncommittal grunt. He wasn’t really interested in the part, just another stupid jock role who’s only purpose was to look hot and not talk. But work was work and that was something he needed desperately.  She gave him a sad smile and rubbed his arm. Her touch sent shock waves down his arm and he had to try desperately not to react.
“You’ll find something, I know you will,” she told him. “But right now, I need to get ready.”
He leaned his head back against the couch. Looking at her with his head hanging upside down.
“You goin’ out tonight?” he asked.
She smiled at him and winked. “Yeah, remember Daniel from my work?”
             “Yeah.”
“Finally asked me out! I can’t wait!” she squealed.
Ben frowned, picking his head up from off the couch. “Oh… that’s great!”
She mirrored his frown, looking at the back of his head, her movements stilling.
“What?” Her voice lost its excitement and it sent a pang to his heart. He didn’t have any claim to her, and he shouldn’t take her happiness away from her. He hopped up off the couch and walked into the kitchen, grabbing an apple.
“Nothing! Just tired I guess,” he explained with a smile. “What time are you leaving?” She clearly didn’t believe him, but she also didn’t seem to want to press the subject.
“7, he’s taking me to that nice Italian place down the block. You know the one that…”
He let her voice fade out as he watched her talk. Her face was so active every emotion crossing her face as she talked. He loved how emotive she was, her hands always moving and her eyes telling him every thought.
“Anyways, would you help me choose my outfit.” She asked, prompting him  to raise his eyebrows at her request. She continued, explaining. “You always have great style and look so handsome…” His chest tightened. “So maybe you’d help me.”
He pursed his lips, trying not to show how much this was killing him. “Yeah, sure, yeah.”
“Great! Let me go put on my first idea!” she squealed in excitement. She placed a kiss on his cheek and hurried off towards her room. He groaned, bringing his face into his hands, rubbing over his hair.
The whole time she tried on different clothes, he had to force a smile and enthusiasm. She looked amazing in everything. And she looked so excited. She always talked to him about these daydreams she had. Daydreams of celebrities coming to take her away or characters from movies or tv shows. She was waiting for the day that someone came and swept her off her feet. He wanted to be that for her. But he was scared that she would reject him. Then he would lose not only his love but his best friend as well.
“So, which one you think?” she questioned, smoothing out the dress and spinning around.
He blinked at her, trying to come up with something to say. “Uh, I like the blue top with that black skirt.”
“Me too! Yay!” she agreed, running into her bathroom.
He sat with her as she told him about her day; putting up decorations since tomorrow was Christmas eve, watching Good Omens, as always, and listening to Queen whenever she could. Then she told him about Daniel. This guy who was coming to sweep her off her feet. He probably couldn’t care less but he wanted her to be excited. Her smile was the brightest thing in the world. Then the doorbell rang.
“Ah! That’ll be him,” she squealed, smiling brightly. She grabbed her purse and walked out of her room, turning back quickly. “I’ll probably be out late, so… see you tomorrow!” Then she was gone.
Ben spent the night as he always did when he was alone. Bowl of popcorn in his hand and a Parks and Rec marathon going. It hadn’t been more than an hour or two when the door opened up and (Y/N) came flying into the house.  He sat up and opened his mouth to greet her, but she just walked past him, sniffling softly. His eyebrows furrowed as he realized she was crying. He heard her door slam and sighed.
He paused the TV and stood, going to her door and leaning against the frame. He could hear her sniffling still and it broke his heart. He knocked softly on the door.
             “Go away, Ben,” you croaked.
“I’m not leaving until you tell me what happened,” he returned, crossing his arms.
There was silence for a moment and Ben was afraid he was going to have to stand there all night. But then the door opened. She glared up at him, her make up smeared down her face and face red from the cold outside. But to him, she still looked amazing.
             I hate you,” she muttered.
“No, you don’t,” he hmphed, reaching his arm out to rub her arm. “Now tell me what happened.
She looked up and away before turning around and sitting on her bed. She reached a wrist up and wiped away the tears in her eyes then she sighed, looking at her hands in her lap.
“He just…” She struggled to find words. “He didn’t really want to get dinner.” Ben cocked his head in question. “He was coming onto me the whole time.” She explained. Ben’s eyebrows raised. “And when I told him to stop… he told me he just asked me out because he thought…” She started to get choked up again. “He thought I was easy… and apparently, people at work think I fucked my boss to get my job.”
That sent Ben. He knew how hard she worked. All throughout college she worked her ass off to be top of the class; she got internships, pulled all-nighters, and I did anything she could to be the best. Once she got her first job at this company, she worked even harder to move up in the chain.
“Oh, love.” He wrapped his arms around her and brought her into his chest. She grabbed onto his shirt and let it all out. He rubbed up and down her back, letting her cry into his chest. “I’m so sorry.”
She leaned back and wiped her face again, then she let out a soft laughed. “Ben, I got make up all over your shirt.”
“Love, you can get make up on all my shirts if it’ll make you smile,” he told her.
She smiled at him, but it didn’t last. She turned away from him and put her elbows on her knees, resting her head on her hands.
“I don’t understand…” she murmured. “How can I be so unlovable.”
Ben shook his head. “No, you’re not. They’re just wankers. All of them.”
“But Ben… that doesn’t help me,” she complained. “Why do I attract people who I love but who never love me. I guess I’m just destined to be alone.”
“(Y/N), you don’t know how wrong you are,” Ben said, lowering his voice.
“But I’m not! My whole life, I’ve been in crappy relationships with guys who only want to fuck me or guys who don’t care about me like I care about him. And I put myself in these fantasies where someone who doesn’t know I exist comes and sweeps me off my feet but none of it is real. And I just want something to be real.”
He looked at her, wanting to take all her pain away. He wanted to tell her everything she meant to him. So, he did.
“(Y/N), you don’t know how wrong you are because…” He took a breath. “Because I’m in love with you.”
She snapped her head over at him, looking more hurt than surprised. “Ben, don’t lie to me to make me feel better.”
“I’m not lying! I would never…” He ran a hand through his hair. “I’ve been in love with you since the seventh grade.”
             “Ben--“
“No, let me tell you how much I love you.” He grabbed her hands and held them in his, rubbing his thumbs over the back of her hands. “I love your smile.” He reached up and brushed your hair back. “I love your hair.” He smiles at her. “I love how you can always make me laugh, and how you have always been by my side. Through everything I’ve been through you’ve been there.” He looks down at her as she furrowed her eyebrows. “I love how you’re so passionate about so many things. Like Christmas and Queen and standing up for what’s right.” He brushed his thumb over her cheek. “I… I’m so sorry that anyone would treat you wrongly. You deserve the world and more. And I genuinely love you, so much…”
He waited for her reply. But she just sat there, her eyebrows furrowed and her eyes darting back and forth. Ben bit his bottom lip and brought his thumb up to clasp around her chin.
“Can I show you?” he aske softly.
She looked up at him, eyes big and wondering. But she nodded and smiled. He reached down and pressed his lips to her, pouring every ounce of love and comfort into the kiss. She reached up and wrapped her hand around his neck, tugging on the curls near the nape. He groaned and pressed her down onto the bed, helping her lift her legs underneath him. He kissed down your jaw, wanting to cover every exposed inch of skin with his lips.
And once he had her there under him, he kept her there for the rest of the night. Then two times before 6:00am. He made her feel love in every possible way. Specifically, with his mouth, fingers and eventually his cock.  He let her know everything he felt for her. And then he fell asleep with her in his arms.
The next morning when you woke up, you were warm. Much warmer than normal. You shifted slightly then realized something was wrapped around your waist. More like someone was. Then the memories of the night before came back to you. And a dull ache between your thighs helped jog your memories. You turned slightly, Ben’s chin falling on your shoulder. You couldn’t help the smile growing on your face. You’d never felt anything like that before.
Who would’ve thought that your stupid dork hunk of a roommate could have the same feelings you did? The feelings that you’d shoved away years ago. Feelings that reached a peak last night. Several times. But what did this mean now? Would things change now that you’d slept together?
You let your lips trail along his forehead, your fingers intertwining with his. But that was for another day. It was Christmas eve and you were in the arms of the warmest man in the world and there was literally no where else you’d want to be.
Just as you were settling into him further, he started shifting next to you, his hand tightening around your waist. He pressed his lips into your shoulder, then blinked his eyes open looking at you. A smirk washed over his face and he pressed up to place his lips on yours again.
“Morning, love.” His voice was thick with sleep, almost a growl in the morning. “How are you feeling.”
“Amazing,” you murmured back. “I feel amazing.”
His smile was so bright, and he nuzzled his face into your neck. You reached a hand up to wrap around his head, turning back onto your side. You looked out the window and tapped your finger against his cheek to get him to look up.
“Ben, look,” you whispered. He rested his chin on your chest. “It’s snowing.”

Caroline part 3
The big finale.....school started for everyone and we talked on the phone as much as possible.  This was long distance and not free so it wasn’t daily.  But a few times a week.  I’d call and then she’d call to split the cost.  Whatever.  I remember thinking she’d probably find somebody and we would never get back together but then I remembered how good a girl she was in high school.  Loyal to a boy who lived hours away.  And she confessed her love to me.  And she pursued me.  I was kinda...conflicted.  I didn’t blame her because I never stopped railing you...and still fucked Amber often but that was winding down because she still had a couple of years of high school.  I guess I planned on fucking Amber as long as possible but knew I wouldn’t be around to bump into her anymore.  So I wasn’t exactly “worried” that Caroline would find somebody else.  But definitely didn’t want her to.  Hypocritical, I am.
Anyway, she invites me to come down that weekend.  There was the first football game and she wanted to know what kind of liquor I wanted.  I didn’t care because I wasn’t a huge drinker.  Just said whatever.  The plan was for me to pick up her roommate who had to come home for something and take her back.  Deal.  Little did I know that I would end up in another girls bed (not like that) and she would end up in another boys bed (exactly like that)
I pick up the roommate and she rides with me down there.  We were cool.  She was hilarious and pretty and we had kissed a couple of times a long time before.  But she had a steady and that was in the past.  We were really good friends.  But something was off on that car ride.  She was throwing this weird vibe.  Was she mad at me?  Why would she be mad at me?  We were very cool.  Had the dynamic changed since I had started railing Caroline?  Was it weird that I was going down there to fuck her?  Did it change something in our circle of friends?  She wasn’t mean at all.  It was like something was troubling her.  Maybe she had a fight with her boyfriend?  I still don’t know.  But I remember it being like a bad omen.  It wasn’t terrible...just different.
So we get there and I can’t find Caroline.  She gone.  Lots of people coming and going and I’m hanging out with Becky from your class and her roommate from my class.  They are cool.  We have a good time.  I don’t particularly want to drink but have a few sips to be polite.  Caroline comes in from somewhere and we hug and its different.  Hmmm.....but she invited me down right?  She wants me here?  Anyway, we’re talking and she seems distant.  She doesn’t seem to want to be alone with me.  I’m not pissed at all.  Just kinda....weird feeling.  I think I follow her into Becky’s room and we have a short kiss but she politely has to go do something in the other room.  Hmmm.  Night goes on...I see less of her and its mostly Becky and the other 2 girls and me and some other random people.  I drink and drink and start getting semi-pissed.  Nobody knows where she is...had to run to the store?  The feeling gets stronger and I get drunker.  Not used to hard liquor but there I was.  I don’t remember anything else about the nighttime.
Daytime....I wake up in a bed with somebody curled up next to me.  I see the back of her head.  We aren’t cuddling...its just a tiny ass bed with 2 people passed out in it.  I think its Becky?  I look around the room and its definitely her bedroom.  Pictures of her and her sister on the dresser.  WTF?  What time is it?  I don’t remember getting here at all.  Had I ever messed around with Becky?  Maybe kissed twice?  Three times?  No groping, no second base, just a few kisses over the year.  That didn’t cross my mind.  Just some history.  All I could think about was why we were here.  I knew it wasn’t like the movies where people pass out and don’t remember sex and how this person got here.  I knew nothing happened.  I also wasn’t really hung over.  I just went from the living room to the bed and no time had passed.  But several hours had passed, apparently.  Her ass was pressed against me but it was more of a lack of space than sexual.  She had on sleep shorts and a tee shirt.  I still had on yesterdays clothes.  I slip out of bed trying not to wake her up...she was pretty out of it.  But she woke up.  I apologize.  I ask her how this happened?  Why we were sharing her little ass bed?  She tells me she found me in her bathroom laying on the floor.  Well, that’s embarassing.  I ask her if I had thrown up and she says no.  But they weren’t going to leave me there all night.  She says her and somebody got my stupid ass in the bed and when she got in...she tried to sleep with her head at the bottom but the covers made that a problem.  And she wasn’t going to sleep on the couch because I was an idiot so she just went to sleep next to me.  I told her that made sense.  And apologized for being an idiot.  And thanked her for getting my stupid ass out of the floor.
Then I asked the obvious.  She didn’t know.  Promised she hadn’t seen her.  I was tired of this shit and ready to go home but wanted to find her before I did.  Went down to her apartment...knock knock...nobody home.  Hmmm.  Went back to Becky’s and told her I needed my keys and all the shit at Carolines.  She couldn’t help and I knew she felt sorry for me.  That and having her pick me up out of the floor was pretty humiliating.  Anyway, Becky’s roommate was up by now and I was like WTF?  And she told me she knew where Caroline was but I shouldn’t go down there.  It was like 3 doors down.  Was I pissed?  Yeah, not that she was fucking somebody else...but that she called me down here.  Anyway, the door was unlocked, some asshole is sitting on the couch.  I tell him I need to get my keys from Caroline and he points to the back.  I knock on the door and open it and she’s still asleep on some dude.  Not like I slept with Becky.  No shirt on, he had no shirt on.  I assume they had nothing on. But I could only see the upper half.  Both her titties with those big pink nipples exposed.  She looked at me and just went pale.  I played it off like I was just an acquaintance needing her apartment keys.  She pointed at her purse.  I thanked her, left and went home.  She called later to apologize.  Said she wanted to sleep with me that night but I had passed out.  Which was untrue.  She was unavailable all night.  Anyway, I was pissed but not furious.
I even went back down there a few months later.  Not alone and not because she personally asked me.  It was a big group of us going to visit all of them.  I even slept in her bed but she sat at the desk all night studying.  Yeah, right.  She had a pretty major medical emergency around Christmas of that year and spent several nights in hospital.  I called her on New Year’s Eve to see how she was feeling.  She was better.  Her parents had gone out and she was home all alone and watching tv.  I foolishly asked her if I could just come over and see her...maybe ring in the new year together.  I don’t think I even meant to go over and fuck her senseless after what had happened health-wise.  Pretty sure i just meant to kiss her at midnight and kinda clean the page.  She said no.  I knew she’d say no, but that was my last effort.
5 years later she was getting ready to marry somebody from our school.  Not the first dude, not me but somebody else that was older.  He’s a nice enough guy.  I was leaving the store one day and she pulls in right behind me and blocks me in.  She was still driving the same white car from high school.  She comes up and I get out and she says I thought that was you.  I confirm it was me.  I sarcastically tell her thanks for the wedding invite.  Other people got one, not me.  She looks sad for a minute and said she didn’t think it would be fair to her fiance to invite me.  Because of our history.  I told her I understood.  She looked really sad.  I tell her I hope they are really happy together...she says they are.  She just apologized again for the way things went down.  Said it always bothered her.  I told her it bothered me too but that I didn’t blame her.  That situation was destined to blow up and I’m glad that summer happened.  Not the fall...but the summer.  She hugged me and told me she loved me and I said the same.
Didn’t see her for a while.  Saw her at the 10 year reunion.  Not going to say she flirted with me.  But she may have flirted with me.  Grabbed my arm when we talked.  Didn’t see her for a while...facebook came along....our kids are similar ages and she’s involved in several things so I see her pretty often.  She looks as good now as she did then.  Same round ass....titties even bigger.  She always smiles and its like the old days before the hookup.  Saw her a couple of weeks ago in a school parking lot.  She was there on official business.  There were no kids around.  She was carrying a bag.  I roll down the window and pull up beside her and ask her if she’s still hanging out in school parking lots after hours.  She turns and laughs and leans into my window and we talk for a while.  Nothing flirtatious.  About general random kid-related stuff.  But I know she thinks about it and knows I still remember her big pink nipples and voluptuous ass and choking on my dick.

Hi there!
My name is Nin and I am the founder of Crushzone Cinema Theater. 📽 🍿
🎬 THE BASICS
Age: 23
Birthday: December 24th
Pronoun: She/her
Education: Graduated with a dual degree in Film and Global History
Occupation: Is currently a film freelancer in the camera department, who desperately needs money to pay rent every month lol.
Likes:
- The sound of rain tapping on my window
- Watching my plants rise and droop to the moving sun
- Cooking and experimenting with different cuisines; Japanese, Thai and Chinese are some of my favorites.
- Giving my husband and my cat their head rubs every night.
- Drawing, painting, and photography. (Here’s some of my works!)
- The feeling of accomplishment after you’ve gone through SO much for a project with your peers. To work on your own movie or short film, and finally seeing it done, is such a rewarding experience.
- To eat my Mac and Cheese with ketchup, nutritional yeast, and steamed broccoli. (Fight me lol. 🦖 )
- Eating chips with chopsticks.
- Medjool dates with a spoonful of crunchy peanut butter 😋
-Wearing oversized clothes, especially hoodies.
- Sitting at my reading nook, with my cat next to me on the chair.
Tumblr media
Dislikes:
- The buzzing sound bees make when they fly.
- Slipping on my own chunk of hair on the ground; I have a lot of hair and I shed a lot.
- The heat, I may be from Thailand, but I am very much done with the blaring heat. One second I’ll look real cute with my face all done up, but the moment I step out, it’s already melting from my face.
- Going to sleep; there’s SO much more I could be doing right now!
- When my bangs desperately need a trim and is poking my eyes.
- Poor lighting, doesn’t matter if it is real life, just light it like you’re IN a film!! It’s so much more dramatic that way! (For real, come to my house, every corner is lit with some sort of a look/mood 😏)
- Loud noises; when people are yelling all the time, or something is loud, I get nervous when I can’t hear my own thoughts.
- People with bad attitude, a temper, or is just kind of mean in general. There is absolutely no excuse for you to be that way, and nothing productive comes out of it. Nuh-uh.
🎬 FUN FACTS
My parents hired a piano teacher when I was in elementary school, but because I didn’t enjoy her company (for some reason), I refused to absorb information. Little did I know, it would backfire me and would have absolutely no effect to her pay.
I’m that kid who always has 4 spare pencils and 5 erasers to lend out to my peers.
Will serenade to my cat every morning and night, so if you are ever my roommate, I apologize for my horrible singings.
Performed as a cave and pot in my high school production, and lemme tell ya, it is more difficult than it sounds.
Has no problem doing laundry in the morning, but the moment the sun falls, I will be too afraid to go down into my basement to do it. Some may say that it is an excuse for me to put laundry off for the next day, but I always tell my husband that there’s a “Babadook” in there. 👀
One time I stepped on a millipede, and I cried for 2 days because I felt really bad for it.
I’m actually VERY shy most of the times, so if you see me laughing a lot like a hyena, then it’s likely that it’s just me being awkward. OR I may just be having a good time, who knows.
I’m awful around kids, I am SO awkward and will stiff up like a rock (if you see me doing that, pls come safe me). One time this kid asked me why I laugh so much, so I simply just laughed some more while backing out of the room slowly. 🤦‍♀️
🎬 SOME FUN QUESTIONS!
What is something you wish you were gifted at doing?
I wish I could sing. My husband is a musician, and it looks like he’s having so much fun. There’s just something so freeing about it, as if it’s another language that takes time to become fluent in, but when you are, it’s so captivating and expressive. I don’t think I’m an awful singer, but is just too incredibly shy to sing in front of others.
What is the first movie you remember seeing in theater?
It may had been Disney’s Dinosaur (2000), not sure. All I remember was that there were a bunch of dinosaurs on screen, may had even been 3D with those glasses.
At one point, a tiger jumped at the screen, and I started crying. My mom and brother wanted to finish the movie, so my dad had to sit outside with me, until it was over. It was chill tho, my dad was teaching me different dinosaur names. 👶 🦖 🦕
What is the first thing you do when you get home?
Pants off, baby!! I don’t usually wear a bra, but if do, then I guess it’s bra’s off first. Then I instantly hop into my plaid boxer shorts hehee. 🤭
What has been the hardest thing for you to face or learn?
That people go through different stages of their life at different paces, and that is totally okay. When I was younger, I would always overwork, and as a result, I don’t really have a lot of time for myself. I did that, mostly, because I wanted to get a head start at everything, especially at my career. Now that I am 23-24, and had just graduated from Class of 2019, I’ve been getting film gigs since I was a sophomore, and is now a full time freelancer.
Yet, I was not satisfied, because I got to work with a 21 y/o in a position that was under her, and it made me feel momentarily incompetent; like I wasn’t doing well enough. But it will never be enough if that’s the mindset; I never considered that she skipped university and went straight into film, so circumstances were entirely different.
Meanwhile, there’s someone 10+ years older than me who is struggling to get the work I’d get, and that is okay too. What I should’ve done is feel happy for her, and use that to motivate myself to improve.  As long as I never give up, and continue to do my best with a good attitude, everything will be just fine.
If you could give your younger self any advice what would it be?
That it’s okay to take a break sometimes, live life a little, and cherish all the happiness, sadness, heartbreak, and struggles that you are going through right now. Every tear will make you stronger, and genuine every smile will eventually pull you through.
Time goes by very quickly, and every stage in your life is a part of you, so make sure you remember how you get to where you are well.
Do you see the glass as half empty or half full?
Half full, just grateful that there’s any liquid in the glass at all, and is excited to acquire more with all the space I’ve got on top, ya know? 🤷‍♀️
What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?
That if you whistle at night, the ghosts will come find you. Or if you play hide and seek at night, then you’ve opened up some kind of portal that the ghosts will kidnap you away from this dimension forever.
Tbh, I think my grandma was just sick of me trying to learn how to whistle when I was in elementary school and of me running around the house at night, so she made these omen up lol.
What time do you usually get up in the morning?
Used to wake up at 13:00-14:00 all the time, but since I married an early bird, I’ve been up at 6:30-7:00 lately.
What time is your usual bed time?
Heeheee 1:00-2:00 in the morning, oops.
How has your birth order/characteristics of siblings affected you?
I have the loveliest older brother in the world, he’s 4 years older, and is very smart, diligent, athletic, and funny. Me being the only daughter, my parents are incredibly protective, so they’d always have my brother do everything for me.
It was a relief when I was younger, but as I enter high school, it became a little frustrating; I felt like I was living under his shadows and can never be considered independent. They’d also spend a lot more time training with him cuz he’s a national competitive swimmer.
Because of that, I had a lot of time to myself, so I experimented with my own interests and grew in my own way. As I’ve grown, I can definitely say that it’s made me a lot more independent and introverted haha. I absolutely dislike depending on anyone (Will be my last resort), but it’s also nice to know that whenever either of us fall, we’ll always have each other’s back.

The Healer: Critical Role
[ warning: here follows a long rambling story of feelings about losing a fandom and finding new love and happiness in an unexpected way ]
Here’s a little personal story about how some fandoms hurt and some heal. It goes from Fillory to Exandria. (It feels really right when I say it that way.)
I wasn’t ready for the healing that I got, but it’s here now. Thank Sarenrae.
Everyone loves that thunderstruck feeling when you fall in love with a fandom. It’s literally like all the tropes about falling in love. You meet and sometimes there’s just a spark.
That was me with The Magicians. I spent a year immersed in a welcoming fandom in a show that made me feel seen and whole. I had friends in the fandom as well as the friends irl who were into the show. I got to dive into it when I really needed a fandom to help carry me a little through a hard time.
It was heaven. Until it wasn’t.
In April of 2019, The Magicians broke my heart. Again, just like all the tropes about love. Just like a bad breakup, there’s things about it that I really enjoyed, but at the end of the day, I can’t go back to the way things were with that fandom. No matter how welcoming the fandom remained, I couldn’t go back because the show had cut me so deeply.
Then through 2019 and into 2020, I drifted through some new loves and lived in my love of some of my oldest fandoms. Lots of Star Wars. New excitement from Good Omens, The Dragon Prince, and The Old Guard. It’s not to say that I don’t love these things, but at least two of my new favs are, for the time being anyway, done. And, though Star Wars (and in the same breath my other love Marvel) are never really done, I like loving them in a bubble because as anyone in those fandoms knows it can be a complicated relationship.
Also in late 2019, my buddy @wittynamehere1443 decided she wanted to try and run a D&D campaign for our family of misfits. I hadn’t played since high school (D&D 3.5) and was super excited to get back into it. I picked up quite a bit while prepping to play from a mix of reading, remembering old things, and watching some tutorials and stuff on ye ol’ YouTube. I had dabbled in tabletop, but never thought I’d go charging back in, but once I started I couldn’t stop.
I immersed myself in as much as I could, but I’m really a visual & kinesthetic learner, so eventually I was going to have to supplement my book-learning with some real-play to really understand. I played as much as I could as I delved deeper, but even as I dove, I realized I wanted to do more. I started to write my own campaign setting and adventures. I suddenly found myself needing to just know how D&D worked without having to always have the books open.
Now, I had been lightly introduced to some real-play before I really understood what it was. A buddy of mine had shown me a clip of Critical Role out of context quite some time ago and I really didn’t understand how so many people I knew and shared a lot of crossover interests with could be so obsessed with watching 8 people play D&D.
My buddy who was now my DM had consumed all of The Adventure Zone and had very lovely things to say about it and I had the lingering curiosity about Critical Role form the many people who had recommended it to me as well as the complete mystery attached to why people loved it so. And me, being a big lover of visuals and being at home because of COVID, dipped my toe into real-play with the first episode of Critical Role back in late June.
I did it completely on my own at first, which is rare given that most things I watch, I watch them with my best friend and roommate, @hawkeyekate.
( Also, as a weird note, I’ve managed to deftly avoid most spoilers about Critical Role up to this point and I’m not completely sure how. I know one big one in Campaign 2, but until yesterday (when I watched the first episode of Campaign 2) I didn’t even know the classes of 1/2 of the Mighty Nein. I didn’t even know Sam played Nott until about three weeks ago. That bubble has come in very handy. )
I immediately began to get out of it what I was originally there for: great real-play with explanations of rules (especially vs. house rules and the whys of everything). Watching the cast fumble through transitioning from Pathfinder to D&D 5e was very helpful to me because I had some similar questions from the figments of memory I had from 3.5 as well as my other random tabletop experience. I was completely inspired and found myself cranking through pages upon pages of my own world and campaigns as well as delving deeper into my characters that I’d been honing already.
I quickly noticed that I was worrying less about the rules when I played and was getting to enjoy my character for who he is. I was starting to craft interesting mechanics and not just story in my adventures I was writing.
Lightning had struck and suddenly I was in love in a way I hadn’t been in a long time.
As I was watching Critical Role, I definitely wasn’t just learning to be a stronger DM and a better player. I found myself able to tell the twins apart. I was invested in the mysteries as they unraveled in Exandria. I hung on Mercer’s every word.
Then without warning, when the party said goodbye to Pike in Vasselheim, I found myself in tears. I don’t know why but I remember being so struck by that moment. I knew it was partly because Ashley was leaving for New York, but the story for Vox Machina hit a soft spot for me. I was no longer just watching 9 people play D&D. I was invested in the story, the characters, and the world.
I was suddenly a Critter.
I think notoriously at this point, when I fall for a fandom, its often connected to a character. I saw in Vax’ildan a lot of things that really sucked me in from the beginning. He is at the same time like many of my favorite characters of my youth and like many of my favorite characters as an adult. I feel like he’s my heartstrings manifest in a lot of ways, complete with many of the flaws in that.
Then what was a slow crawl accelerated. I would occasionally ramble to @hawkeyekate about the adventures of Vox Machina and it would be on when she was around, but she wasn’t exactly watching it with me. Then at some point during “The Trial of the Take”, she was suddenly sitting with me to watch. She was asking me to pause when she had to go do something - and wait for her.
We were watching together.
We were acutely aware of how the twins echoed things in us and that often we are referred to in the same sentence in the same way. I had my Vex’ahlia.
Only a little over a month later, we’ve battled Briarwoods and now we’re hunting Vestiges and gathering allies. It is a rare day that we don’t watch a little Critical Role. I sport my “Gilmore’s Glorious Goods” shirt. I’ve read Vox Machina: Origins and am making plans for two cosplays already.
I’ve also DM’d six sessions of my first adventure-turned-campaign in my own world I’ve built, Perlen. I play tabletop two-to-three days a week with my friends via the internet. I hoard dice.
I’ve fallen in love again and this time it feels safe.
I know good and bad things will come for Vox Machina ahead. I know the same can be said for The Mighty Nein in my future as well, but the Critters in my life have been so welcoming and it’s been so nice to have something new to talk to my friends about. And I trust the cast of Critical Role not to destroy things just because they made them like The Magicians creators did, a trust I didn’t think I would grow back any time soon. I know that some of the pains in Critical Role aren’t just scripted but are actually to chance, which gives me comfort, too. People live and die by the dice in tabletop and I can abide that. It doesn’t mean I won’t cry and ache every time something bad happens to them because I love them all.
So I will go running through Tal’dorei and look forward to Wildemount while I carve out the mountains and seas of my world of Perlen. I’ll cry when they hurt and smile every time Pike and Grog talk. I’ll be healed the way that stories can in ways I didn’t expect, which has now happened much more than once.
I’m here now and I love it.
[ special shout-out to the Critters in my life that have been so welcoming. Especially my super-enabler, @oniumbra. ]

Hospital
Just a little logicality fic that I wrote late at night. I hope you enjoy it. I would love to post a part two or more. If I do I’ll link to it here.
Inspiration for this post
Patton had been getting better until his condition took a turn for the worst. He was born with a rare blood disorder and was certain he was going to die around the age of two. But now, as a fourteen year old, he was the most optimistic person, likely to ever live.
He had been in and out of the hospital for all his life and hadn’t been there for six or so months when he had fallen extremely ill. Being rushed to the hospital was a rush that he sadly knew all to well and was no longer scared by the sirens of the ambulance or the musings of his mother in her attempts to soothe him. Instead, Patton found this whole ordeal rather annoying. His breathing mask was a little crooked and the straps around his ears were itchy.
They arrived at the hospital and Patton was placed in a room he had been in many times before. Doctor Marcie came in and out, checking one thing then leaving to attend to another patient before returning, only to leave yet again. There were no children’s hospitals nearby so the child section of the St. James hospital was often understaffed and over filled.
Patton waited patiently, though he had his iPad to help with that. Soon he was told that he would have to stay overnight for a while and was sent to an empty room. There were two beds, though the other had no patient. Two TVs and a curtain separating the room in two. Patton was put in the bed farthest from the door and was left with his mother and older sibling Talyn.
“Oh, Pat, don’t worry.” His sweet mother assured him.
“I’m not worried momma!” He giggled.
You’re so brave.” She cooed.
“Momma, he’s been here so many times, I think he’s used to it by now.” Talyn stated.
“Talyn!”
“Momma, they’re right.” Patton said. He grasped his Mother’s hand and smiled.
“Oh hun, you are perfect.” She sighed.
“No I’m not momma.”
“Pat, you know this isn’t the time to argue with her.” Talyn reminded their small sibling.
“Yeah.” He replied grinning up at his sibling.
As the night drew closer Patton’s mother and sibling had to leave. It was a bit tearful for the older woman but Talyn helped their mother out and soon Patton was left in the room. Alone.
Oh, he hated being alone. No one to talk to, no one to smile at, nothing but silence.
Luckily, he had his iPad and the room had a TV. Patton began absently flipping through stations until he found reruns of The Office. Using that as background noise he started scrolling through Instagram, liking posts and watching makeup tutorials and satisfying videos.
Then, around eight pm, another kid was rolled into the room and put in the other bed. He too, had glasses and Patton desperately wanted to point out that fact.
However, he knew that many kids didn’t want to talk with their ‘roommate’ right away. So he kept quiet.
After assuring the other kid was comfortable in his bed all but one nurse left. She walked over to Patton and began checking on him.
“How are you doing Pat?” She asked.
“I’m doing good Nora.” Patton smiles. Nurse Nora was Patton’s favorite. She was often his nurse while he was at the hospital and she never looked at him with pity and sadness like all the others. He wondered if her eyes were always filled with hope.
“You’re lookin’ alright. Everything seems fine. Other than you being sick that is.” She made Patton giggle.
“When is Emile coming?”
“He’ll be here to see you in morning Honeybee.” Nora told Patton.
“Yay! Oh, I have to ask him Remy!” Patton exclaimed.
“I’m sure Dr. Picani will be happy to tell you all about it.” Nora said looking at the chart.
She set down the chart and turned to Patton.
“Pat, this is Logan. He’s gonna be here for a while like you.” She told him.
“M’kay.” He replied side-eyeing the boy quickly.
Nora gave him a small ‘bap’ on the head and turned to leave.
“I’ll be back in to check on you again around eleven Honeybee.” She called.
Nora left the room and Patton felt his face ease out of the bright grin he had and into a smaller, more comfy smile. Patton lowered the volume on his tv as another episode of The Office began. He laid back his pillow and watched intently at the screen. Well, at least he was trying to watch intently. Instead he was sneaking glances at the other boy in the room. Logan, as Patton now knew, had his glasses off and his nose in a book. In fact, it appeared he had been left with a rather large stack of books.
Patton particularly liked how the boy’s facial expression shifted as he read. Logan’s small smile turned to shock, then his eyebrows creased into an angry look, then he softened and stared at the page in endearment. At one point Patton thought he had caught Logan re-reading the same paragraph several times. He was chewing on the inside of his lip in nervousness, but his eyes betrayed that action. Logan’s eyes were shimmering with a glow Patton knew only as love. He must be reading something he loved.
Logan flipped the page and that glimmer of love in his eyes faded away. Patton felt his own face waver as he saw this.
Patton then realized he had likely been looking at Logan long enough for it to be considered rude and turned away. After not being able to fully focus on the show Patton decided to turn off the TV and play on his iPad. The WiFi at the hospital was horrid but Patton had time to waste. While one particular game was loading Patton decided to take another glance at Logan.
The boy had somehow fallen asleep. The book rested on his chest that rose and fell and his hair was tossed carelessly around his face. Patton felt a grin grow on his face as he saw how content Logan was. The other kids that Patton had shared a room with in the past weren't usually content. Those kids slept with a permanent look of pain. Their eyes were so full of sadness. Some had tear stains on their cheeks that Patton didn't know how long were there or how long would last. Seeing a boy so peaceful like Logan made Patton so simply happy.
Logan then turned on his side toward Patton, the book falling to the floor. When the sound didn't wake Logan up Patton grabbed the IV on the side of his bed and got on his knees so he could wheel it around the bed. He got it to the left of him and attempted to quietly get off the bed. Once his feet were safely on the cold floor, Patton walked to the book and picked it up. Good Omens, Patton read. The cover was a simple sketch of a man with angel wings reading a red book in front of a black background. The font was funny looking and Patton made a mental note to try and read it once he was out of the hospital.
He went to place it on Logan's dresser when he heard a sudden intake of air next to him. Patton looked over and saw Logan suddenly sitting up in the bed, staring at him, clearly startled.
"Uh, sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." Patton rushed to say. "It's just, your book fell while you were sleeping and I didn't want it to be on the dirty floor."
"Oh." Logan seemed to calm once given the explanation, his shoulders relaxed. "Thank you."
"Of course." Patton squinted as he ginned. He placed the book on the stand next to Logan's bed and walked, his IV in hand, over to the right side of his bed before sitting down cross-legged on the soft blue blanket his mother had left.
It was quiet. Patton decided he didn't enjoy the quiet and perhaps this was the time to talk to Logan. He looked over at the boy who had put his glasses on and was fixing up his hair a little. Patton felt a giggle rise from his throat. His glasses were crooked. Not enough that Logan could tell but Patton sure could.
"Um, Logan?" Patton asked.
"Yes?" He looked over at Patton.
"Your glasses are crooked." Patton told him.
"Oh." He began his attempts to fix them. After several tries where he would look to Patton for assurance that they were level and get a 'no' as a response Patton decided to simply fix it for him.
Once again pulled his IV to the other side of the bed, Patton walked over to Logan and adjusted the glasses on his face. He smiled at Logan once done and the boy smiled back, though Logan's was, a smaller simpler smile.
"You seem to know the hospital staff very well." Logan pointed out as Patton sat back down on his bed.
"Yea, I've got a blood disorder so I'm in and out of here a lot." Patton explained.
"Hm." Logan appeared to be assessing Patton's expression, though Pat couldn't tell what he was looking for. "Why did the nurse call you Honeybee."
"Uh, well," Patton felt embarrassment creep into his cheeks. "Nurse Nora was one of the very first nurses that I had on the regular rotation and when I first met her, I was obsessed with this stuffed animal. It was a bee with a little pot of honey on top. So, she started calling me Honeybee. Only a few people call me honeybee around here. Nora, Dr. Picani, Dr. Bollis, the secretary at the front desk, her name is Virginia, and the pastry chef down at the cafeteria, Mr. Thomas."
Logan nodded along as Patton gave him unasked for information. He didn't mind however. There wasn't much else to do.
Once it seemed like Patton was finished Logan decided to speak up. "I suppose I should tell you about my condition, seeing as you told me yours."
"Oh, you don't have to Logan! I understand if it makes you uncomfortable to talk about."
"Really?" Logan tilted his head.
"Yea!" Patton gave him another toothy grin.
"Thank you." Logan reciprocated.
"I never would want to make you uncomfortable. A lot of kids here don't like to talk about why they have to be in the hospital." Patton told him. "It's normal."
"I've heard you mention a Doctor Picani, who is that?" Logan asked.
"He's the child therapist at the hospital. He comes to visit all the kids at least once when they're here over night." Patton explained.
"Ah." Logan nodded in understanding.
The two continued to chat for a while. Patton would explain something about the hospital to Logan and Logan would ask some more questions until Patton had a question of his own.
"What is your book about?"
"Sorry?" Logan looked at his other bespectacled friend.
"Your book, I think it was called Good Omens. It had funny font and an angel on the cover." Patton clarified.
"You want to know about my book?" Logan asked.
"Well, yeah, that's why I asked silly!" Patton giggled.
"Oh, uh, well, it's about this angel and demon, both were sent to Earth to observe human evolution and perform miracles, that's the angel's job, or create mischief, the demon's job." Logan began to tell. "After a few thousand years the angel, who's name is Aziraphale, and the demon, who's name is Crowley, realize that whenever one does something beneficial the other just counteracts it with a bad deed."
Patton looked at Logan intently as he explained away the book. "Eventually they become good friends and both live in central London. Aziraphale owns and runs a bookshop while Crowley has a Bentley, you know the old car."
Patton nodded, reading the excitement and glee plastered all over Logan's face.
"Then the Antichrist is born, and he's supposed to bring about the end of the world. However, neither Crowley or Aziraphale want that so they attempt to stop the end of the world on the Antichrist's eleventh birthday. So they-" Logan looked Patton directly in the eyes. "are you planning on reading the book?"
"Oh, uh, I suppose so." Patton shrugged.
"Then, I guess I shouldn't tell you what happens. People tend to not like it when I explain in detail the plots of the books I'm reading." Logan looked down.
"No! No, no, keep going. Though I know how it ends that doesn't mean I won't want to read it." Patton assured him.
"Really?" Logan asked. Patton nodded quickly and Logan continued.
He explained every event in the book in great detail and would even draw Patton a diagram of confusing plot points so he could better understand it. Patton tried very hard to focus on everything Logan was saying but he found that when the boy was joyfully going on about something he's passionate about, Logan is hard to look away from. At some point Logan had walked over to sit on Patton's bed with him and was giddily showing Patton the diagram he had drawn up though at this point Patton had completely given up on paying attention to Logan's musings. Instead he had zoned out, his mind racing, never stopping to think about one thought or another too quickly. Though he somehow always tied his thoughts back to the boy sitting next to him, Patton decided to not unpack all of that at the moment. Besides, what real harm was being done if his absent-minded staring just so happened to be in the general area where Logan sat next to him.
"Patton."
"Ya-huh?" Patton's eyes came back into focus as once Logan got his attention.
"Oh, uh, I was just making sure you understood what I was saying." Logan gave a small smile before turning back to the "evidence" he had laid out on the bed.
"Yep." Patton continued to stare in Logan's general area as the smart boy went on.
"So, as I was saying I think-" Logan turned his head to the right and looked at Patton realizing the cheery boy was staring at Logan's hair. Logan exhaled and lightly took Patton's chin in his fingers, tilting the other boy's head back to the diagrams on the bed. This time assuring that he could fully understand what Logan was saying.
Patton pursed his lips and visibly pouted a little but didn't complain. He did however sneak one last look at Logan who had just the lightest hue of pink dusting his ears.
As Logan drew to a close on his lecture about his the current book he was reading he transferred back to his bed and was organizing his belongings.
"Thank you for listening to me Patton. I usually can't find anyone willing to listen to me talk about my interests."
"Oh of course, to be fully honest I spaced out a little, but a book about an Angel and a Demon falling in love," Patton laid back in his bed, a dreamy look on his face. "what's not to be interested with?"
"What?" Logan looked at his curly haired friend, flabbergasted. "They're best friends, they're not in love."
"Yeah ok." Patton raised his eyebrows and chuckled.
"They aren't." Logan stated.
"Oh, please." Patton sat up, turning to look Logan directly in the eye. "Logan, I have been in and out of this hospital my entire life. I have memorized almost every facial expression there is. I can tell how someone is feeling just by how they walk. I can see past every faked smile and forced laugh. I know what eyes filled with pity or pain look like better than, I dare say, anyone. People's actions portray their feelings more than they know. And from simply all you have told me about Crowley and Aziraphale, I can tell you with complete certainty. They are in love." Patton punctuated the last four words forcefully.
Logan looked at Patton with a small amount of shock. That however, faded quickly. Replaced instead by a content resting face. "Well, I guess it is a possibility." He mumbled.
"It's essentially a fact." Patton once again laid back.
It was quiet for the first time in a while. Though, the silence wasn't awkward as Patton had become used too. Instead, it was an easy silence. Logan, though Patton couldn't see very well, was going over the notes he had made, clearly searching for something to disprove Patton's conjecture. Patton felt a smug smile reach his lips as he closed his eyes. Enjoying the silence. That is until Logan gives a frustrated grunt and slammed his note book shut. Patton sat up, concerned. This wasn't the outcome he had expected.
"Hey, uh, Logan." Patton tentatively began. "Your voice is really nice."
"What?" Logan jerked his head up, his voice breaking a little.
"Your voice. I liked listening to you talk about the book, but your voice is very calming." Patton continued explaining. "You see, my older sibling Talyn has a friend, Virgil, he's read those H. P. Lovecraft books and he loves talking about them. I usually tune it out, which sounds rude but sometimes I just cannot continue hearing him vent about such yucky topics. However, I loved listening to you talk about Good Omens. Though the book itself isn't as gross as Lovecraft I also think your voice is part of the reason why I was so interested."
"Oh, well," Logan took a shaky in take of breath. "Thank you."
Patton smiled as a response and let his head rest on the pillow behind him. The minutes ticked on. It was slow but Patton turned on his TV and the two watched reruns of whatever shows they could find that was somewhat enjoyable. At some point the clock had struck eleven and Nora came back in. Checking both boys vitals before turning off the TV and wishing them a goodnight.
The dark room was once again plunged into silence that neither boy seemed to enjoy. Patton found he could not sleep for the life of him and figured Logan had drifted off at that point. So, when Logan shifted in his bed and spoke Patton jumped just a little.
“Patton, are you still awake?” He whispered.
“No.” Patton admitted. Opening his eyes and allowing them to adjust.
“I cannot seem to rest.” Logan sighed.
“Neither can I.” Patton giggled.
It was quiet for a beat too long.
“I feel I should admit something to you.” Logan whispered, his voice full of hesitation.
“Shoot.” Patton assured his friend.
“Earlier. When I initially awoke from my nap.” Logan began. “You told me my glasses were crooked. I purposely never fixed them correctly.”
It was quiet.
“Wow.” Patton began a soft giggle that grew. You are a lot more subtle than I am.”
“Oh?”
“Very much so.” Patton continued his giggle. “That was a pretty smooth move there.”
“My friends would have called it desperate.” Logan admitted. Patton pursed his lips.”However, I’m not good with emotions at all. I’m not the best at, well, anything of the sort. I can’t just tell you I think you’re cute now can I?”
“Why not?” Patton asked, completely dodging the fact that this adorable boy had called him cute.
“Well, for one you could be straight.” Logan pointed out.
“Me? I’m as gay as everyone’s first impression of Aziraphale, Logan.” Patton chided.
Logan chuckled. Patton too laughed at his own comment. It was quiet. Though he couldn’t see any colors other than dark grey and black Patton could feel the red on Logan’s ears. Or perhaps that was just Patton’s hope that Logan’s face felt as hot as his did.
"I love sleepovers." He sighed.
"Patton, I don't believe this counts as a sleepover."
"I'm in a nightgown aren't I?" Patton said as though this was an argument.
"It's a hospital gown and attire doesn't really make it a sleepover." Logan countered.
"Truth or dare?" Patton asked, turning on his side toward Logan.
Logan was quiet. Clearly searching Patton's face once again, this time likely for a sign that he was joking. After some time Logan looked away.
"Dare." He sighed.
