a key bit there is that he is a "despicable human being". the whole point it that yes, he is an awful person but the book humanises him (NOT by creating sympathy for him, by the way) in the sense that it provides a motive for him.

snow doesn't start off as an 18 year old sadist who enjoys suffering and is inherently evil.

no, he starts off as an 18 year old determined to protect his reputation and his family name and willing to do whatever it takes to get there. self-preservation is everything to him. that is what fuels him.

he starts off as a young man unable to drag his eyes away from the glinting gem of power, and any morals he has or could have had dissolve in his pursuit of it. he is not inherently evil - but he becomes willing to perform evil acts because of his thirst for power and control and his unshakeable willingness to obtain them.

and the whole point of the "romance" is not only to highlight how his brain works, but also why he treats the katniss the way he does.

his "romance" with lucy gray ends because he cannot truly love her without the all-important elements of, once again, power and control. he only begins to love her because he can control her, but when he realises that love, and loving her, are stripping him of his control, he leaves it behind because he cannot be vulnerable.

love for him was a power play (even going on to marry simply whoever would not stand in his way, completely disregarding 'love'), and he treats katniss and peeta the way he does because he would weaponise love, as katniss and peeta do in their 1st games. he just can't imagine that someone like katniss, willing to use love as a tool, could allow herself to actually fall in love. he wants, effectively, to prove that he wasn't the problem, that love is doomed to fail.

seriously, way too many people drastically underestimate the power of suzanne collins's mind. she has thought this through. she knows these characters, and she's telling you about them in every action, every line. listen.

Anyway it's been three years since the book came out and if you dont like the way its written that's no problem but it's always bothered me that people wrote off the book because of the "romance" and the fact that it's from Snow's perspective and "oh no he's hot" but if you read past the fucking tropes maybe you'd understand that we're not meant to like him. He's a despicable human being in a despicable society and he's written as such and I hope the movie does that justice.

Okay, let's finally talk about EPIC's Apollo

I feel very compelled to say, first of all, that I do not dislike Epic. In fact, I am very fond of Epic and have been following its production and status very eagerly! I attend all the launch streams, I watch all of Herrans' update videos; I am, at the end of the day, a fan and I want it to be known that my words are spoken out of love and passion as much as they are spoken from a place of critique.

So really, what my problem with Epic's Apollo?

In the briefest possible terms; the choice to have Apollo be defined by his musical aspect in God Games is thematically strange. And not in the 'oh well in the Odyssey, Apollo was important to Odysseus and his family so it's weird that that wasn't kept in Epic' strange, strange in the sense that Odysseus' character arc since My Goodbye has been getting more and more obviously Apollonian and so it is positively bizarre that when we get to meet Apollo, the god seems entirely disinterested in him and his affairs. So much so that he is not even defined by any station that would indicate that he has been watching over and protecting Odysseus and his family.

What do I mean by 'Odysseus has been following an Apollonian arc'? I'm so glad you asked!

Remember Them is the last song in which Odysseus explicitly uses his sword until Mutiny where he must use it to defend himself against Eurylochus' blade. He uses it to help enact the plan to conquer Polyphemus and, due to Polites dying in that battle, Polites who wished for Odysseus to put the blade down entirely and embrace a post-war life, Odysseus also retires his sword. This is an action that symbolically separates him from Athena - and the image of Odysseus as a traditional warrior set for him in Horse and Infant - as much as My Goodbye physically separates him from the goddess and her war-ways - from this point onwards, Odysseus will no longer be leaning on Athena's wisdom or methods to solve his problems. Likewise, he will no longer be able to rely on her protection.

Odysseus thusly solves most of his upcoming problems through diplomacy and avoidance. He approaches Aeolus - a strange and ambiguous god (both in gender and in motivation) and appeals to them for help. Circe too, he approaches not with wishes to conquer or for revenge, but for the safe returning of his men and an alternate way forward. In all of these scenarios, there is some Apollonian element which is subtly interweaved alongside the influence of other gods; it is with a bow and arrows that Polyphemus' sheep is slain (and thus it is this Apollonian element which is at the root of Odysseus' spat with Poseidon), it is a vision of Penelope that warns Odysseus that his men are about to open Aeolus' wind-bag, Circe's peace offering to Odysseus is to refer him to a prophet of Apollo who has since died.

In this way, Apollo is walking alongside Odysseus for all of his journey after Athena departs - even in the Underworld, he is guiding him. It is Tiresias' proclamation that is the last straw for Odysseus, it is by the power of a mouthpiece of Apollo that Odysseus decides to embrace his ruthlessness. It is with the bow and arrow that Odysseus subdues the siren who sought to trick him, likewise, Odysseus does not attempt to undermine or escape the fate of paying Scylla's passage price - he knows of the doom about to befall the six men and quite unlike the rest of the journey until this point, he does not fight against it. This all comes to a head on Thrinacia where it is a blade which sacrifices the sun god's cow and brings destruction upon the crew once more.

My point with all of this is that when I heard the teasers for God Games years ago, it made perfect sense to me that Apollo would be Round One - he is not Odysseus' adversary and has no reason to oppose Athena's wish to free him. From other teasers about what will happen in the climax of Epic, Apollo will still be walking alongside Odysseus - it is Apollo's bow that Penelope will give the suitors to string. Likewise, it is Apollo's bow that will prove Odysseus' legitimacy and identity. That bow will be the power by which Odysseus hunts his adversaries and cleans out his palace - it is Apollo who is the avatar of Odysseus' ruthlessness, not Athena.

So tell me, truly, what was the point of having Apollo raise a non-argument in God Games? Why have him appear unconcerned, aloof and slightly oblivious? Why have him appear in his capacity as the Lord of Music at all?? And if the intention was never to make Apollo an active player in Odysseus' life like he was in the Odyssey, why keep Odysseus as a primary archer?

The answer of course is that Apollo is inextricable from the fabric of the Odyssey - his influence and favour exudes from Odysseus just as much as Athena's. In Athena's ten year sulk, it would have been Apollo who kept Telemachus and Penelope safe. It would have been Apollo protecting Odysseus from Poseidon's gaze as he travelled the seas (according to the Odyssey anyway)

Forgive me for not being excited about something that I thought was being purposefully set up. I was extremely ecstatic about all of the little Apollonian details that litter the sagas because I know where this story ends up (loosely) but all God Games did was reveal that maybe those Apollonian details were not intentional at all, but merely the ghost of the Apollo who persistently haunts those he favours, even if he cannot explicitly come to their aide in an adaptation.

I've drawn Marcille with the idea of her being a deer/elk as a chimera, that's also based off of her dungeon lord outfit, but then a goat appealed to me and it makes a LOT more sense. An animal often sacrificed, but could also be the one who is sacrificed to. In a way Marcille used herself as a goat reviving Falin, and yada yada-- I think this is going somewhere. Mithrun would go apeshit, no doubt. But I love doomed yuri, love it a bunch, so a pheonix is such an interesting choice because I already have a sad little intricate plot in my head with it in mind

Got the chance to meet the absolutely LOVELY @chrisrin at The Crane Wives' concert. Ngl inner fangirled at bit, and screeched when I got to hear Curses live. Truly an amazing experience. Aaaand! Was given a little gift!

Shoutout to Chris for being the coolest ever (I got a good laugh out of hearing the fangirls screech when they found out it was you while we were all waiting for the gates lol) and I must say. 10/10 for my first concert experience! I will DEFINITELY be making the trip again if they return to the area.

- Being alone (Eddie not having any news of anyone and not even seeing anyone outside (which is interesting as the story says that Sally was up in a tree near his home and saw him fret over having nothing to do), Wally saying it's so quiet during Homewarming and it's just he and Home for a while (potentially the show putting out a christmas special and then being on break? can a show do that?), and in the normal website material, the end of "An ode to hibernation", Frank saying "Where all that's left is me", the "me" being a "...me?")

- Welcome Home being used to sell stuff (cigarettes, medicine, eggnog, cereals, and the cookbook lists ingredients that are a specific brand)

so I can't really make sense yet of all the food stuff. Maybe there are cultural elements/expressions I don't know that explains it? But I still find it very interesting how fucking unhinged that cookbook is yet the commercial and the website treat it normally. The cookbook is overall extremely interesting, because some of the recipes seem to actually be written by the characters; Barnaby who only presents you weird hot dog dressings with pictures but no recipe (and all jokes), Frank who lists not just the ingredients but also the material, and overexplain each steps (at least overexplain compared to the other recipes. it's actually interesting to know why you do x or y), and Julie who turns her recipe into a game at the end, and felt a bit harder to follow? anyway.

The cookbook, the Homewarming tradition of hanging a ham in the tree, Santy Claus being said sometimes instead of Santa, the ham for Santa? Once again, the christmas commercials being so casual about some of the weird stuff it says and presents? This almost feels like an alien who only has a blurry grasp of Christmas and what humans enjoy made the cookbook and the live commercial.

Sometimes, Welcome Home feels like it never actually aired and produced things, but we're making it retroactively exist. Something is making it exist. Like a retcon of the universe, "What do you mean you never heard of Welcome Home? No, of course it always existed and was very popular, look at all this old material we find!"

So maybe whatever is making it exist doesn't fully get humans and accidentally creates things that are weird to prove its existence. Like a cookbook that tells you a single pea in a buttered plate is a classic meal, or that of course you give Santa ham on Homewarming! (tbh almost getting an AI weirdness feel)

But in total contrary, in its story, Welcome Home also feels like it always existed, but got somehow completely wiped from people's mind, as something caused its sudden stop, and its characters gained consciousness of what they are and their world. As an existential dread fell on them one after the other, slowly realizing something isn't right. As Eddie felt anxiety and nervousness over no one being there or contacting him, to then having the story acts lightheartedly about it, the narrator saying things have been solved but he doesn't feel it, and suddenly Home is staring at him.

Both "It never existed but the universe is being retcon into it existing" and "it existed but something terrible happened that erased it from peoples mind" seem plausible. If two theories contradict each other, that means there's a third one that needs to be found.

Maybe it existed. Maybe it truly was popular, but something corrupted it, leading to its disappearance. A disappearance so big it stopped to exist. And now the thing that corrupted it is trying to crawl back, make it exist again, but it's making it come back completely off.

Anyway.

Also, I think the show may have been on hold during the Holiday season, "hibernating", and the character who got some self awareness realized that something was off. They're alone because there's nothing new, so no one is there bringing life to the neighborhood.

Oh man, I just saw that post you made about showing Moon Christmas lights and it reminded me of one of my own ideas (warning, this gets LONG, turn back now if you don't want to read multiple paragraphs of delusion)

SO, obviously you gotta show Sun and Moon all the beautiful sights associated with the day and night respectively, but what if you also decided to show them the opposite? I mean, back in the daycare even just seeing the outside world was probably considered wishful thinking, it's possible they'd never even thought about experiencing the other time of day.

Sun's easy, just gotta find a lantern or some other thing bright enough for his sensors. Then you can take him into a wide open meadow to gaze at all the different sights the night can bring. Fireflies, northern lights, shooting stars, honestly, even normal stars would probably leave him speechless. Just showing him how peaceful and beautiful the world can be at night. And Christmas lights. Strolling through a neighborhood on a chilly December night, admiring all the displays, until he stops at one in particular. One with light-up candy canes, and icicles, and decorated trees in the yard, and those statues of reindeer and snowmen, and even a Christmas tree in the window. Sure, he knew Christmas lights were beautiful, but he never truly realized just how beautiful. Then it starts gently snowing but the sky's so dark that when he looks up it looks like the snow is just spawned out of the darkness. And he stays like that, until you squeeze his hand, pull him a little closer, and you both continue onto the next house.

Moon's a little harder but for delusion's sake you do somehow find some sort of umbrella that blocks enough sunlight that Moon stays Moon. There's a whole lot more to see during the day but I like the idea of taking Moon to a flower garden, one that has all different types and colours and just showing him what they look like when they're awake. Or having a picnic in the park, setting everything up beneath a big tree, and bringing a really dark tent that he can sit inside when it starts getting too bright or he doesn't want to talk anymore. The two of you can just sit there and watch all the different people come though the park, a young couple holding hands, some joggers, people playing with their dogs, a bunch of kids on the swingset that's a little off to the side. Just showing Moon what the world looks like when it's most alive.

Obviously, Sun would always prefer the day and Moon the night. But maybe they'd start to appreciate the other side of the coin and these little excursions start to be part of your life. Hearing that there's gonna be a bunch of shooting starts and bringing the lantern along so Sun can make some wishes of his own. Or there's a festival that's only open during the day that Moon's interested in so you decide to make a big day of attending it. Showing these guys the whole world and not just the side of it they were designed to see.

(Making time for both of them) So, of course, I have thought a lot about how you can better improvise it There was someone on tiktok a loong while back (I don't remember who now augh </3) who had a very cool system for sun/moon's light sensors!! I'll put a visual here to help, but imagine that sun/moon have a few major sensor points all across their body. If the MAJORITY of those senors are lit up, Sun will be allowed out, if the majority are darkened out Moon will be allowed out

Think something like this ^^^ Ofc I don't follow this to a exactly BUT, using this you could theoretically get away with having Moon out during the day if he wears a hoodie and maybe pull the hood up!!! So I think it is totally possible to bring him out for a picnic hehehehe I LOVE UR IDEAS THO RAAAHH!!! Having Moon get to appreciate a park in the daylight, watching folks walk around and watching the sun filter through leaves.
