he’s neutral about this. there’s no denying that he does have feminine traits like long silky hair but he has nothing against it.

in fact, he absolutely adores when you call him princess. like when you’re teasing him with, “okay, princess.” he smiles to himself a little and avoids eye contact because he’s so shy.

he likes when you play around with his name, it’s entertaining and you always come up with the cutest names. this is his contact name in your phone.

rensuke kunigami:

;; jist of everything is that minori "rinrin" starts composing to improve her abilities in idol auditions (don't question it), then (in order) airi "riri" gets roped in as the mv maker, then shizuku "rook" as the artist and after a whole lotta plot and sekai shenanigans, haruka "ruka" as the lyricist.

;; their personalities and whatnot are mostly the same. minori is super energetic and hopeful, for all except three hours of the day where she's the opposite (luckily she's usually asleep), haruka is haruka except sleep deprived and the guilt complex is worse, talking to airi is a 50/50 on whether she'll glare at you or walk away and shizuku... we'll get to that.

;; their sekai is the fairytale sekai and it's basically a massive forest, except for the one massive clearing that has a stage. except the stage is not in good condition..

;; each vocaloid is based off of a different fairytale thing. miku (princess) and luka (witch) are their starting vocaloids, but (in order) rin (some sorta forest spirit-esque thing) shows up in colour of myself, meiko (mythical creature tamer) shows up in you deserve it! break time!, kaito (royalty) shows up for worldwide wander and len (also some sorta forest spirit-esque thing) shows up at some other point that i haven't decided.

;; the order of events is slightly shuffled, only because colour of myself needs to be first. because colour of myself is the "shizuku quit your job" event. did i mention that she didn't quit during the main story? yeah she never gets the push she needs to quit and stays there. -> because the cloverdamned turning point quote is haruai

;; which leads back to the "and shizuku... we'll get to that." comment. yeah she's not doing well. she's been balancing work and these meetings (one of which she enjoys and finds comfort in. hint: it isn't the one involving her groupmates who hate her) so she's stressed, dealing with perfectionism and all that.

;; at some point in colour of myself, minori gets really sick and shizuku is very iffy about it. (her and rin were witness to minori starting her "sekai research", part one of which was to eat plants in the sekai. something bad happened.) that's the most random fact anyway continuing on

;; minori solves her problems in every event by getting a whole lot of sugar in her system, acting like 'normal' then sugar crashing at about four am. which is when she sleeps for three hours or just cries for no discernable reason. then she repeats this at seven am.

;; group relationship wise is funny because. minori is more chill about being in a group with the other three (having worked out their identities way before they all worked out each others and having time to process that).

;; so minoharu is along the lines of "ruka-chan responds to my kindness with trust issues. what do i do"

;; minoai is airi daring minori to do dumb stuff and minori doing it then airi getting incredibly concerned as she injures herself in more and more unhinged ways

;; shizuai is shizuai. airi is the main encourager for shizuku getting out of cheerful*days and shizuku is the number one fan of airi.

;; all of them are clingy, in very different ways. minori just needs to be able to hear them over call or see them and she's happy. shizuku will just grab onto people (airi or minori usually). airi and haruka act like they aren't clingy but panic if they haven't heard anything from one of their groupmates in a day.

Is there any adaptation where SWK does stay happy with his love interest?

There is surprisingly not a LACK of SOs that do end up with a Wukong but just that you have to be willing to accept it as "Wukong" so to speak.

But otherwise, it is very rare that there is a universe Wukong ends up with a love interest… mostly cause a lot of adaptations are based in the middle of the journey, they are Retellings, hence the return to the status quo is only to be expected, or that it is afterward, where Wukong becomes Victorious Fighting Buddha.

In most circumstances, adaptions that would have Wukong with an SO and have the circumstances where they are able to get together are without a doubt going to be more Alternative Universes where the setting is completely different or Appropriations where they are more character-inspired than anything else.

This is all the one that I am AWARE of at the moment but as you can see a lot more Retellings/Continuations are where Wukong's SO dies and this is mostly for the case of keeping the status quo and moving on with the original plot. They are more like additions of the OG story that let Wukong have his character moment.

It is far more with Alternatives Universes or with other Continuations that there are more 'alive at least' SOs, some in the case of reincarnation or being in a different setting for the plot otherwise. Some of them don't even end up WITH WUKONG (most likely save their lives).

Just depends on what you are watching but traditionally Wukong does not have alive SOs for the sake of the plot/character development, while in other he has them alive where he is less Sun Wukong or is it taken out of the xiyouji context.

If you have any more please let me know cause a lot of plot summaries just DONT include any mention of a romance subplot. I can only imagine WHY.

[Series Review] Trillion Game (2023) - an exhilaring fun ride from start to finish

I watched like four Japanese series in 2023 so I'm not sure I'm qualified to rank anything but for me personally, Trillion Game is the BEST Japanese series of 2023. The story and solutions felt cheesy at times but pacing, acting/cast, music, rewatch value. 10/10. I am so happy I decided on a whim to watch this after being in a slump of not being able to truly enjoy any series after I finished another drama which I considered my favorite series of 2023.

STORY

We follow Haru (Meguro Ren), an extremely charming communicator and Gaku (Sano Hayato), a brilliant IT engineer as they encounter obstacles on their start-up journey together. It is VERY fast paced drama with each episode following a certain formula that you'll figure out by the second episode. For the majority of the series, each episode starts with present Gaku, CEO of Trillion Game, reminiscing his and Haru's past adventures in the early days of their start-up business. While each episodes may seem formulaic, the stories are never boring and I found myself binging everything from start to finish, not being able to stop for a second. We've seen the unhinged genius x sane down-to-earth duo a bazillion times before but I think what makes this particular story so charming is the characterization of Haru who is self-proclaimed "the most selfish man in the world" but all his actions are completely contradictory, always self-less and putting everyone's needs above his. I love Haru so much. I don't know what they laced in the series but I am down bad for Tennoji Haru and I get why Princess Kiri wants Haru so bad as well, like same here sis.

ACTING/CAST

Meguro Ren and Imada Mio are just the most enigmatic actors, truly powerhouses. From edits on Youtube on Tiktok, you'd think these two have a lot of screen time together but they DON'T. Regardless, even when acting separately, they are bringing everything to the table and when they get scenes together, the chemistry is CHEMISTRYING. The sizzling tension between Haru and Princess Kiri are just top-notch. Sano Hayato and Fukumoto Riko are also just the most adorable nerds as Gaku and Rinrin. I love our four main leads so damn much. There's this one scene from Episode 2 where the first thing Haru does after receiving their initial 30 million yen investment is to bath in money and I remember thinking this is so nonsensical but at the same time found myself with the stupidest grin on my face watching Haru pushing Gaku out of his comfort zone to do all these insane things with him. I LOVE THEM. Meguro Ren is truly an enigmatic powerhouse in this one. I have only seen Meme in like three other dramas but Haru is definitely my top favorite Meguro Ren role ever.

MUSIC

The score is so energetic and fun. I love the main theme song of the series which is Dangerholic by Snow Man. The song is SAUR good I haven't skipped single outtro of any episode just to listen to this song. I watched a lot of series this year but Dangerholic is probably taking the crown as my favorite OST of 2023 in this very last minute race. As previously mentioned , Trillon Game has very exciting and energizing score and I'd argue that many business/office scenes are hard-carried by the score and excellent editing.

REWATCH VALUE

This series get a 100000000 for rewatch value because I just finished it and I'm already considering for another rewatch just because of how much fun I had watching it. But also because each episodes are so self-contained, Trillion Game will be fairly easy to rewatch any random episode in this series because you don't really need to the past episode to enjoy one, a recap at the beginning of each episode will do just fine. The tension between Haru and Princess Kiri is so insane even though there's no explicit romance going on. I think I need to rewatch it just for THEM.

PRODUCTION

This was definitely a low budget drama but TBS definitely made do with what they got. I understand if Princess Kiri's wardrobe alone was where most budget was allocated to. Like deserved! Trillion Game's strength lies more in the acting and story department so I wouldn't say this was a high value production but I will say I love all the rooftop scenes between Haru and Gaku. Those rooftop conversation scenes between them are just beautiful and heart-warming.

OVERALL

I love Haru with my entire heart. WATCH TRILLION GAME FOR HARU PLEASE.

Rindou wasn’t used to people celebrating his birthday, it had always been him and his brother growing up. Granted Ran, always gave him something maybe a cupcake. But as far as other people, they just overlooked it. That’s what he was used to, so he never thought of a reason to celebrate it. It was nothing special. In fact, when people wished him a Happy Birthday he would scoff and roll his eyes. 

That was until he met you, he wanted you to acknowledge his existence. Wish him a happy birthday, or give him a hug. The truth was he always looked for validation from you and you alone. Even his brother knew this but Ran never said anything. 

Rindou was currently looking for you, but it was like you have been avoiding him. He hated that feeling, all he wanted was for you to wish him a happy birthday. His brother already gave him a whole cake and a gift. And others had wished him one except for you. Granted you weren’t obligated by any means, but it would have meant a lot coming from you. After all, he had a huge crush on you. Ever since you joined Bonten as the official doctor, he always kept a close eye on you. Mainly to make sure Ran or no one else was getting too close to you. 

Everyone knew of his feelings for you and swore that maybe you had feelings for him too. But if that was the case where were you? Why were you avoiding him, on his supposed special day? 

He was about to give up until he received a text message from you.

He ignored the extra text message that you sent and rushed to your house. His heart was racing and he could barely keep a smile off of his face. Once he arrived at your small apartment, he knocked on the door a few times. 

“Coming~” 

He fixed his hair, as you opened the door and flashed him a wide smile. You stepped aside to allow him in which he gladly did. 

“Thank you for coming…” 

“No problem, is everything okay?” He asked and you nodded your head as he removed his shoes. You wrapped your arms around him in a tight hug and he felt a blush creep up his cheeks. 

“Princess?” 

“Happy Birthday RinRin… I have something for you.” You were about to let go, but he quickly wrapped his arms around you to hold you there for a few more moments. 

“Hold on, let me just stay like this for a moment.” He mumbled. You felt your own cheeks heat up and nod your head. 

You both stayed in each other’s embrace for a few minutes before finally parting. You pull him to the living room and sat him on the couch.

“You probably already received a cake, but I made you one today as well.” You said to remove the cover. It was his favorite flavor and it was beautifully decorated. He smiled looking at you. 

“I prefer yours over my brother’s,” he admitted and you laughed. You also handed him a small box. He opened it and saw a brand new watch in there. It was customized with your and his picture in it. He blinked and looked over at you, and you were playing with your fingers. 

“Uhm, also I really like you… a lot. So I thought maybe… as a way to confess I would that as well,” you referred to the watch. He blinked several times as he took in the words you had said. 

“You like me?” 

“Yeah, a lot. I understand if you don’t. I can always exchange the w~” he cut you off with his lips on yours. He placed the watch on the table and tangled his hands into your hair before sighing softly. After a few moments, you both pulled away and you looked up at him surprised. He leaned his forehead against yours with his eyes closed.

“You don’t understand how long I have waited to do that.” 

“Why didn’t you?” You asked in a teasing manner and he shot you a soft glare before letting a small smile.

“You tend to avoid me when it matters.” 

“Not true~” 

“Definitely true,” he mumbled. He pecked your lips before pulling you into his lap and burying his face into your neck.

“Are you going to eat your cake?”

“Not right now, I want to hold you for a bit.” 

“I didn’t realize you were so clingy~”

“Shut it, you won’t be getting this in public so accept it.”

“Alright~ geez.”

Uh so

Idk if you know Spy x Family...there's a scene there in one of the early episodes that the family roleplayed a scene from bondman(a series in the anime) because anya want it- so Remember when (the witch - Yor's role) Yor battled (bondman - loid's role) Loid there because she thinks he's stealing Anya aka the princess away from her (she was drunk)

So uh

Imagine The darlings dolls wanted to make a scene similar to that (but mayoi doesn't want to but has no choice but be the princess of the show)- you pick which is the person who's gonna be in loid's position. MC is the witch ofc and drunk 💀- so ya MC is like "WHO DARES TAKE AWAY MY MAYOI" and I can HIGHLY see MC has some moves 😩👆 but I wanna think since the person playing as bondman is a doll of theirs, idk why I see MC after almost making them pass out is like "oh it's y-you! *Hic* l-l-look *hic* someone is stealing away my m-mayoi from me and I need your h-help *hic* *cries*" or just pass out

Aha small fun fact about My MC: she's strong and lil Buffy so I kinda see her as that

"woah spy x family is really good. HOW L-O-V-E-L-Y!!" aira commented after a long marathon of watching spy x family. They started at afternoon now it's almost late at night. They repeated it many times.

"Ye, yor really a dupe assassin!" Kohaku nodded his head as he like to see show with cool assassin in it. Through the theme is not as dark as usual show with such character, it's pretty fun to watch.

"LOID AND YOR FIGHT IS SO COOL! I WANNA SEE IT IN REAL LIFE!" aira eyes sparkle at the thought of seeing fighting scene like that.

"Hmm! Hmm! Ya, me too!" Kohaku can't agree more. "Hmm, maybe we should play it! Like role play! But who would our cast be?" Aira stare at everyone, seeing no one is willing to take part of it. He sigh in disappointment--

"I swear rinrin... I'm not going to d-drag your ass home n-next time-- *hic.." from the front door, two drunk people walk in.

"yup! We were watching spy x family! We wanna see it in real life. LOID vs yor!" Aira who offer you some water.

"T-thanks..." You mumble as you drink it. But still drunk in your system. "I can play Yor if you want." You giggle.

"Ehh... But I wanna play Yor. Cause assassin..." Kohaku mumble with a pout.

"Sure~ you wanna wear a dress and heels too?" You giggle at the thought of double kohaku wearing dress.

"i--.... I'll play Loid instead then." Hearing the drawback of the casting of yor. Kohaku decided to be the one who'll play bondman.

"Ahaha... Mk... Then mayoi could be princess ùwú." You point at the floating upside down mayoi.

Feeling the familiar liquor down your throat, you look at the glass and realized those two just offer you an alcohol.

"DO YOU THINK YOU COULD GET THE PRINCESS THAT EASILY?!" Aira who is beside mayoi with a princess crown says. Wide smile on his face as he felt happy playing a scene from the anime.

"YOU WILL HAVE TO FACE THE DOLLMAKER WHOS TOO OBSESSED WITH DOLLS--MC!"

"h-hey dat aren't the line--" kohaku mumble before you walk in front of him. "Hihi..*hic... "You greeted him, forgetting your in a role play for some reason.

"..." Aira realize that you seems to forget your line.

"Oh no... MC seems m-more drunk... Ah.... I felt slowly becoming ...d-drunk too..." Mayoi mumble as he look at you in worry before his vision become dizzy...

"OH NO! MC BONDMAN DID SOMETHING BAD TO MAYOI! AND HE WANT TO STEAL MAYOI FROM YOU!!" aira knowing your buttons, use the opportunity to make you fight kohaku.

'sorry kohakuchi' he thought excitedly at the next scene.

"S-STEAL...?!" your eyes is seeing red when you hear that world.

"n-noimnot--"

"mayoi-san don't ruined the play please." Aira shut up mayoi before he can stop you from fighting.

"WHO'S GOING TO STEAL MAYOI FROM ME!!!???"you yelled in anger as you look at the bondman with pink hair. "IS IT YOU?*HIC..." You questioned.

"yes Its me--'" before kohaku could say more you already send a hand chop at his nape but since his a doll, he don't have a pressure point, hence he cannot be unconscious like usual human.

"???!!!!" But he show felt your pressure and strength on him when you attack.

"... Oh." Your eyes turn dark. When you realize the bondman won't get knock out in simple attack. "Only dolls would be like this..." You mumble

"cause I am one--"kohaku sarcastically says as the play went down hill yet the two of you still play along but with your own twist.

He then disappear in front of you to run toward where aira and Mayoi is, to get the so called princess and end this play.

"shall I cut your threads?" You chuckle darkly as you pull out scissors from your pocket. Your mind is both drunk and not in the right thought. You turn slowly at kohaku who pause as he look at you in worry.

"Kokoko... Let's see if ya can do so mchan.." interested to see of your fighting style with so called upper hand of yours. He smiled awaiting your next move.

You grip hold of your scissor before you smirk and run toward kohaku, having the scissors in a stabbing position toward the upper shoulder where one of knot(DD pressure point) is, you went for a dislocation of thread connected of both shoulder and arms.

But kohaku manage to dodge in the last moment by dropping down and rolling to the side, he then send a kick to your side but you grip on his leg, you giggle looking down at kohaku.

"You should learn more than do such seen through move..." You raise your hand holding the scissor and was about to remove the knot in the knee cup.

"ya are open!" He twist his body to send his free leg to kick you instead, unable to see such move you were hit in the side.

"Agh... *Hic..." You hiccups as you felt your side being hurt. But still holding on kohaku other leg.

"MCAREYOUOK?!" The princess run toward you in worry but he seems to unable to handle the lace of sharing of drunk state from you, he tripped out of nothing.

"...*sob..." He cried in embarrassment. 'so uncool' he thought.

"...WHO MADE MAYOI CRY!??!" you forget the pain and throw kohaku like a doll to the sofa where Rinne is before running toward mayoi.

"guhh... Agh... What the hell.." rinne mumble as he felt something is thrown at him. "K-kohakuchi!?" aira looks surprised to see kohaku somehow return to his doll form.

"Man... MC-Han that's not fair!" If kohaku is in his human form, he could be seen pouting but he only cross his doll limbs in sadge state.

Since your kohaku's dollmaker, you could always make them turn back to being dolls, you never did this to any of the dolls you made but seeing Mayoi crying state made you lost your reasoning (as if there's one) and ended the fight by turning the opponent to someone unable to continue.

"m-mc..." Mayoi bashfully look at you as you check any injuries from him before laying his head to your chest as you comfort him. The two for you now Seats in the floor.

"No worry MC would protect you." You promise. "mcimsupposedtosaythatinstead... *Hic... " He cried but felt comfort in your arms.

"IsMcOk..." He question as he checks on your side. Feeling depress and angry your hurt cause of just a silly roleplay, gone wrong...

"Oww... Yes M-MC is fine..." You lied through groaning pain as he poke your hurting side.

"*Hic... MC is a liar." You hear mayoi whimpers as he lay his head to your shoulder.

Your back is facing the sofa which means you cannot see the expression of Aira who look scared at mayoi while holding doll kohaku who too felt jolt of fear.

The phantom blue eyes darken as he stare at the cause of the mess, somehow the princess is not someone in distress at all.

maybe the princess is keep away to not cause harm to others when they see his mad state if something bad happened to his dearest.

'uwaahhh... Mayoi looks so angry...' aira thought as he back away unconsciously, he felt his own shadows entangle around his own feet like threads, that means harm than good.

'h-hu...h... Why do I s-suddenly... felt sleepy...' aira don't know what's happening as he slowly fallen asleep on the sofa, through he passes it tiredness later on as he did watch anime back to back.

But the moment he lost conscious, he turn back to his doll form. He usually doesn't need too as his an idol now yet somehow it still happened.

Not realizing the cause, the threads that seems to leech him out in his shadows disappear and went back to where it come from...

the phantom who hold your painful side one that been hurt earlier, massaging it softly.

"Don't worry.. pain we'll go away..." He says as familiar shadow threads that are invisible in naked eyes appeared from his shadow to your side.

Things it absorb from the DD is use to make the pain go away. What kind of sorcery he does, its better not to know. But he did it just for you ~ ♡' mayoi thought as he finish his work. Happy that he could lessen such pain.

"Hmm? It's fine through." You who's oblivious as you felt somewhat not drunk now and your side isn't hurting like it is before.

"that's weird." You were lying being fine earlier. Now it's truthful fine now. You don't think much of it as you hug Mayoi, he gasp at your sudden affection but slowly hugs you back.

"I will not allow anyone steal you away." You swear and promise. "Mayoi is my family, my very precious darling...." You added.

He felt his heart flattering as blush cover his face, not out of drunk stare but because of you and your words.

"If it's a human, the world won't notice one missing person. If it's a doll... Someone gonna be lock in a box for a while." You jokingly says with a sweet smile and promise.

"M-MC...!" He hugged you tighter, a sick grin and swirling madness in his eyes lovesick of love.

The voices in his head can't help but squeal at your degenerate sweet words of twisted love.

He can't help but giggle as his mind is full of the thought of his MC being possessive for him, even given him more important and love than other dolls.

If you could see the shadow threads you would notice how it all form a shape of heart as their owner can't help but felt intense affection, it's too much yet he cannot get enough of it!

"I... I won't allow you to be hurt by other people... And by your own reckless behavior." He began. As far he is concerned the only people who can harm you is you being reckless since you manage to live a life of solitary and living Ina thread in social status.

"I will protect you, I will take care of you, my mc..." He promise as he look at your (color) eyes, the distance between you two are almost non existent. As if time slowly stop and inch away your lips part.

HiMERU step on the threads, he glare at the phantom who try to harm his brother out of jealousy. The strings beneath his feet get cut off a bit. That one time the phantom able to use his powers on him, he refuse to be control by someone even if it's the phantom.

He pat his head and continue to glare at the phantom who slowly approaches You without you noticing because your looking at a black-blue butterfly that just enter the house, late at night and flatter into your finger.

"The color remind me of Mayoi eyes and hair." You mumble looking at the beautiful butterfly, it felt odd as if it can understand you and you giggle and give the nice butterfly a pat in the head with your pinky.

Mayoi who's already behind you cover your gaze before you can look directly to the illusion eyes and his threads grab hold of the butterfly and try to crumble it.

He knows that butterfly isn't a normal one, his blue eyes harden as he glare at the butterfly as it flow away, as it manage to escape it's attempt.

“Merry Christmas lovebirds!” a cacophony of voices yell from outside.

You sit upright in Rin’s bed and look around. There are a multitude of voices from the other side of your locked door, but as you look around the room you see a few menaces that have scaled the cabin to climb on the fucking balcony.

“Oh my God!” you yell, “You idiots!” you throw off the duvet and run to let them in.

Rin grumbles furiously as they jump on top of him and start jumping on the bed.

“C’mon Rinrin, it’s Christmas!” Ryusei laughs, or cackles more like as he watches Rin roll over and cover his head with his pillow. You haven’t heard Ryusei call him that in a while, you’re surprised he hasn’t said it since you’ve been here.

It’s just as well, really, since he hates it.

You unlock the door and laugh harder as the rest of the guys jump onto the bed to harass Rin. All except Chigiri, anyway, who smiles as he watches on from the doorway. But he soon sets his sights on you, curling his finger as he beckons you to follow him.

“C’mon lover girl, need to talk to you.” he grins, walking away before you can object.

“And we need to talk to you, lover boy.” Ryusei laughs.

“Is that what we’re doing?” Rin grimaces, finally sitting upright in bed as he watches you leave.

You give him a small wave before you chase after your best friend. He leads you to your shared bedroom and hands you a gift. You go to open it, before he quickly stops you.

“It’s your CD for Rin!” he informs you. “We’re gonna eat and then do presents afterwards.”

“Oh, thank you! I totally forgot to wrap it.” you smile and give him a tight hug. He hugs back, even tighter, and it makes you a little nervous. You pull back to look him in the eye, and he doesn’t seem quite himself. Your eyes squint as you eye him up suspiciously, waiting to see if he’ll spill. But of course, he doesn’t. “Is something wrong?” you wonder.

“No,” he shakes his head. “I’m trying to decide what you should wear.”

“… We aren’t just wearing comfy PJs today?”

“No,” he tells you. “We’re getting suited and booted! So, let’s make you Rin’s pretty princess.” he smiles, guiding you over to the dressing table with the intention of doing your hair.

“I don’t know what I’m wearing or how I’m doing my makeup!” you remind him, only to be met with a harsh shushing sound. “You can’t do my hair until—”

“Do you know how long it takes to cook for eight people?” Hyoma asks, and you have nothing to say in return. “We’ve got time, that’s all I’m saying.”

You go down to eat breakfast in Rin’s clothes, deciding that it’s better to eat in his sleepwear than risk making a mess of the outfit you chose. Or, Hyoma chose, rather.

Everyone smiles when they see you dressed so casually in comparison to themselves. Hyoma wasn’t kidding. Each of the guys are wearing expensive looking suits, your best friend included. And they all look so handsome.

None more so than Rin, however.

You run to him, wrapping your arms around his neck to give him a kiss. You hear a few of the guys shout ‘wooooooo’ flirtatiously as you kiss, so you can’t stop yourself from smiling into it.

“Everyone hurry up and eat, I want to do presents!” Karasu announces, sitting down at the kitchen island after serving everyone. “And you, princess, better not take forever to get changed.” he warns you, playfully mocking Rin’s sweet nickname for you.

“Okay I won’t!” you smile, digging into your food.

Once you’re done, you kiss Rin on the cheek and rush up the stairs. Everyone else gathers by the fire in the lounge with their gifts in hand. Rin follows you, though, hurrying after you to help you into your outfit.

“YOU BETTER NOT FUCK UP THERE!” Tabito warns you both.

You giggle as Rin helps you out of your clothes, kissing you all over as he does. As much as you’d love to have a quickie with him, you aren’t sure you’re prepared to face Karasu’s wrath if he keeps you waiting for too long.

“What are you wearing, baby?” he wonders. You point to the white strapless mini dress that Chigiri chose for you and the matching white fur trimmed gloves. He looks at the outfit, sceptically, before looking back at you. “You’re wearing gloves inside?”

“Yeah,” you tell him. You grab them and hold them against your arms. The fur trim passes your elbows, and it makes your little dress look more exciting. It looks plain without them. “Why, don’t you like them?”

“Are they thin?” he asks.

“Why?”

“Because… we’ll be sitting by the fire and you’ll probably be too warm.” he explains. You put on the glove you’re holding and swivel your wrist around as you try and determine whether they’ll be too hot for you to wear. He holds your hand, his thumbs massage your thumb as he feels the material. “Oh they’re skintight, huh? Okay.” he smiles.

“Okay weirdo.” you laugh, putting on the other glove. You stand with nought covering you but the white material on your arms, looking at him with sweet doe eyes as you parade your body like you’re so sweet and an innocent. “Wanna help me get dressed?”

He nods, kissing your cheek as he grabs your little white dress. He slips it on you and zips you into it, admiring how perfectly it fits your body. His fingers delicately trace over your exposed skin, and you mewl softly. His touch is so sensitive as he smooths the pads of his fingers between your shoulder blades.

“You look so beautiful, baby.” he tells you, kissing the nape of your neck before dropping down on one knee. He picks up one of your shoes and slides your foot into it, quickly tying it with ease. “It’s like nothing has changed.” he smirks. He does the same with your other foot. You balance yourself on the nearest surface as he pulls your foot up a little higher, bending down to kiss atop skin between the white straps. He lets go, standing up and kissing your cheek carefully.

“Thank you, Rinnie.”

“Of course,” he smiles, “Let’s go.” he takes your hand, leading you back to the others.

Everyone claps and cheers when you finally come back with your pretty outfit on. You grip onto the banister so you don’t trip in your heels. But Rin wouldn’t let you fall, not when he has such a tight grip on your hand.

“Our gorgeous princess.” Oliver winks as you reach the bottom, earning a sea of praise and compliments as everyone carries on playfully teasing Rin’s nickname. He ignores them, easily, more concerned with how happy he is that he can call you his again.

“Did you start yet?” you ask, everyone shakes their head. “Who’s going first?”

“I will.” Karasu smiles, handing three gifts to Ryusei. Everyone laughs as he unwraps them to see a dirty magazine, some lube and a box of tissues. “Enjoy, loser.”

Ryusei playfully punches him in the arm and then grabs his gift, handing back to Karasu. “Weird coincidence.” he laughs, watching his friend unwrap his gift. The size of his gift is large, and it makes it even funnier when he opens it.

“Okay, I know you’re messing around, but where the fuck has this been all of my life?” everyone laughs with Karasu as he admires the enormous tub of hair gel Ryusei had bought him. “This is amazing, thank you.”

Otoya decides to go next, holding up a roll of condoms and handing them over to Oliver.

“Dude.” Oliver replies, grabbing the exact same brand of condoms for him and passing them back to Eita. “My present already came wrapped!”

“Oh fuck!” Eita laughs as they exchange them. “This is useless, I’m never gonna use these.”

“Me neither!” Oliver laughs.

Chigiri finishes laughing at the duo before grabbing his gift for Sae. He huffs, handing it over uncomfortably. “I have no idea what’s in here. I was meant to give you the Taxi Driver DVD.” he explains.

“Let’s see…” Sae smiles, taking the wrapping paper off carefully. “Bratz Kidz Sleepover Adventure, how thoughtful.” he laughs, tossing it down onto the coffee table for everyone to look at.

You’re inconsolable as you start laughing thinking back to yesterday again. Chigri knows how much you love Bratz movies so he couldn’t resist when you were shopping. But if he’d have known this would happen, he wouldn’t have bothered.

You fan your face as you try and keep your tears of laughter from ruining your makeup. Rin kisses your shoulder, smiling up at you while you’re sitting on his lap.

“Here you go Chigiri.” Sae speaks, handing his gift to him. “Something tells me there’s been some name exchanges because this worked out too nicely.”

Hyoma looks at you quickly before looking back down at the present in his hand. He unwraps it, trying to be as patient and calm as Sae has been when opening his.

“Rin told me he remembered you enjoying reading novels, so I picked one up in an old bookstore I found.” Sae explains as Chigiri looks down at the preloved book in his hands.

“Oh, wow, thank you.” Hyoma smiles at him. It’s silent for a while as everyone admires their gifts, forgetting you and Rin haven’t exchanged yours yet.

“Did you trade?” Rin asks you, and you nod.

“I swapped with Chigiri,” you confess. “What about you?” you wonder.

“I didn’t trade.” he kisses your shoulder again. “Since I didn’t cheat, I want my present first.” he tells you. The idea of cheating at Secret Santa makes you giggle, but you hand the CD that Chigiri beautifully wrapped for you over to him.

You watch him with so much love in your eyes as he opens it. Part of you worries he won’t remember, but you see the memories come flooding back to him as he sees the cover and reads over the track list on the back.

“I can’t believe you found this here.” he smiles. “It’s… fate, right? Or is that stupid?”

“I said the same thing!” you giggle. He bounces you on his lap until you fall slightly forward, pressing a kiss to your gloss covered lips. You pull away, excited for your gift, finally. “My turn!” you smile.

“You’re gonna be disappointed, I couldn’t find anything.” he tells you, handing you a rectangular shaped gift. You open it quickly, seeing he’d bought you your favourite chocolate. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay!” you assure him, giving him yet another sweet kiss. “It’s the thought that counts. You just don’t have the knack for finding gifts in obscure places like me~!” you tease him, squealing when he tickles into your sides.

“Yo, now that we’re done with gifts,” Otoya speaks, standing up so everyone pays attention to him. “Since we’re all dressed up, we should get a group picture in front of the cabin while it’s snowing.” he announces.

Everyone stands up, and you’ve never been so thankful to own a pair of gloves. You can only hope pictures won’t take too long while you’re in such a skimpy outfit. The breeze already begins to bite at your legs when Oliver opens the door.

Rin puts his arm around your shoulders as you walk out together. Chigiri stands on the porch and leans over the wooden railing as everyone else descends the stairs. You look at him, curiously, but he holds his phone up to his ear and begins speaking.

You stop walking as Rin turns to face you, and you don’t notice how all of the other guys flee the scene from around you. The snow drops down lightly, and it sticks to both of your hairs and clothes as you look at one another.

“It’s freezing.” you giggle, teeth chattering as you look up at him. “I hope this doesn’t take too long.”

“Sorry for dragging you out here.” he smirks. “It’s pretty romantic though.”

“Yeah, it really is.” your voice softens as you speak to him, not wanting the freezing temperature to distract you from how happy you are to be with him again. Though you can’t help but look towards the guys, seeing them all huddled for warmth underneath the roof of the cabin where Chigiri was taking a phone call. But you notice him holding his phone horizontally as you look at him, the device is no longer held to his ear.

You pull an incredulous face before looking back at Rin, noticing he’s no longer towering above you.

He’s down on one knee.

“Oh my God.” you gasp, your hands fly to your mouth as you see him holding his grandmother’s ring. You start to blubber, looking at the guys who were in on this and yelling at them in disbelief. “I can’t believe nobody told me! And you haven’t even asked me to be your girlfriend again yet!” you laugh, unable to fight back tears as you look at him.

“I don’t want you to be my girlfriend, princess.” he explains. “I want you to be my wife.”

You sniffle nodding before he even asks the question.

“Will you marry me?” he wonders.

“Yes!” you bawl, dropping down to your knees to hug him.

You both fall in the snow as you hold each other. Everyone shouts with excitement as they run down the stairs to join you, congratulating you both in the process. The snow covers you all completely, but you’ve never felt warmer surrounded by your friends.

Rin slips the ring on your finger over your glove, kissing you deeply when it fully sinks in that you’re back on track and destined to make it work this time.

You giggle again as you admire the ring on your finger. “Is this why you were asking about the gloves?”

“Yes, baby.” he laughs back. “Would have been embarrassing if the ring didn’t fit.”

“Is it too early for champagne?” Sae wonders, ruffling his little brother’s hair before retreating into the house. “Maybe we can watch my DVD while we celebrate.”

“Don’t joke about that.” Chigiri rolls his eyes, following him inside.

Rin picks you up with ease and carries you back inside. You’ve made some great memories since you got here, and if champagne is involved, you’re sure that even on your last day here you’re going to make many more.

The snow falling outside makes the cabin feel so much cosier. You smile for the camera as everyone is eager to take group photos to remember the occasion. The champagne is beautiful, as expected from the Itoshi family supply. Though in the arms of your lover, your fiancé again, you don’t think you could find fault with anything in the world.

You came here single, missing him dearly. But tomorrow, you’ll be leaving with him as your future husband.

He hugs you from behind as you admire your ring yet again. He lets you take a sip of champagne before whispering in your ear.

“I can’t wait to marry you, but you’re already my wife.” he says.

“Yeah?” you smile sweetly, melting into his arms. “I can’t wait to marry you, too.”

“You’re my wife in everything but name, princess.” he tells you, kissing your cheek repeatedly so that you fall further into his loving hold. He holds your delicate hand, kissing atop the glove that’s wearing your ring. There’s only one thought on your mind as he holds you so sweetly. How lucky you are to have received that invitation from Sae.

Thank God you didn’t spend Christmas with your parents.

how common is it for adaptations to give stone monkey a (usually female) friend on flowerfruit mountain? i've noticed it in a couple adaptations and wonder if it comes from a specific adaptation

Funny enough YES!

At least I think we can all think of one man in particular for the common grey-fur monkey companion that Shihou/Wukong has...

And that is Tezuka Osamu!

I think it starts with his manga My SonGoku ぼくの孫悟空.

This was first published in 1952 and has been quite influential in Japanese interpretations of Sun Wukong.

He was actually influenced by Tessen Koshu who made the Princess Iron Fan cartoon 铁扇公主 in 1941 with that kind of rubber hose kind of art style.

Anyway, the main point is that this guy made a certain character at the start of his manga before Wukong left for his training.

"While Biko, a monkey born from a stone, starts as a shy crybaby, he becomes the king of the monkeys with the encouragement of a gentle sister monkey, LinLin. He learns Senjutsu, becomes Son Goku, and goes on a rampage in Heaven...

Otherwise known as RinRin depending on how you translate it. Or even DeeDee or Reina. Depends on what you are looking at.

"RinRin-chan" The tomboyish monkey to the main character. She names the stone monkey Biko and takes care of him as an older sister."

I haven't read the manga (I don't know Japanese) nor do I understand how manga history in how this is both a "Hitomi" (Akita Shoten) 1960 serialization but I do know she is credited to Tezuka Osamu. And her influence has been in serial more of a couple of Japanese Xiyouji iterations.

Her next appearance being in ALAKAZAN THE GREAT Saiyuki ぼくの孫悟空 which was made in 1960. This was written by Baku Yumemakura who was a fan of Tezuka Osamu's works where she goes by RinRin. A pretty one-to-one look from what she looked like in the manga

This is also some inspiration in the 1967 Goku's Great Adventures 悟空の大冒険 but any female side character was replaced with a fairy-like person Tatsuko. She isn't Rinrin of course but I think that since this was also credited to Tezuka Osamu that having a pink-themed older sister character was what inspired her.

There was also a female monkey by the name of Fanya from the 1999 Magic Monkey モンキーマジックTV series that is more well-known for its video game. Not named Rinrin at all but... look at her. She gets TWO flowers in her hair and a pink theme. I know flowers and pink aren't the most creative choice for a girl monkey but that is a clear inspiration.

She wasn't really seen by name until the 2003 movie, My Son Goku ぼくの孫悟空 where she was brought back by where she goes by Reina in the eng subs! Here her name is slightly different but I think that this might be my favorite version of her thus far! She is such a caring person and while he isn't in the movie that long she plays such an impactful role!

These are mostly Japanese interpretations because of their tie with the My SonGoku manga but there are a few more giving Wukong a grey monkey friend in his Shihou phase in Chinese interpretations.

The only one I can think of that can be a real nod of acknowledgment is really 1999 Legends of the Monkey King 西游记 with an unnamed girl monkey (if she does have a name please let me know I've never learned it!) Love the change from pink to yellow, we are getting creative here.

These are all the examples I can think of at least in the media I've personally seen!

The only grey-furred sidekick thus far was LiuEr Mihou from Monkey King 2009 美猴王. I think this one might be more coincidental with the grey fur and the pink theme but that would be hilarious if it was to fit the 'childhood best friend' card that Rinrin, a completely different character, has set.

I do find some comments on how LiuEr in this version took RINRIN'S place as the childhood best friend trope. Like that idea of Wukong in his Stone Monkey phase of life having a Best friend is now tied to the image of Rinrin! It is funny to think that out of all the interactions of giving Wukong sidekicks, this one seems to be a re-occurring one consistently. Sadly I haven't seen another version in nearly 20 years!! We've been deprived!

Will we see this character again soon? Hard to say considering it's been so long but I love that in at least 3 different Japanese Xiyouji interactions and a general nod in acknowledgment in 2 as well.
