This is based off one of the most popular JTTW movies to ever come to light A Chinese Odyssey which is something I have talked about before.

The woman in the picture is Zixia, a candlestick of heaven, who's performance in the movie was so popular that she even made an appearance in nearly 10 other movies. She is without a doubt a fan favorite considering that even nearly 30 years later she is considered the BLUEPRINT to Wukong romantic interests.

This is legit the movie that made Wukong Romance movies a THING she was so popular. Before the 1995 most JTTW movies were action/adventure which was great but this was the movie that made Wukong a tragic hero. He experiences heart break and lead a whole generation of new JTTW fans adoring him and even learning to Bio of Wukong which lead to Immortal Demon Slayer which lead to Black Myth Wukong.

Zixia grew up as the child of Chinese immigrants, having moved to the United States a couple years before her birth. Her father, the leading perfectionist of the family and lawyer at heart, her mother the woman who’d left a life dictated by her family behind in order to start anew with her husband in the States. The girl followed in her parents footsteps, holding onto their desire for her to make something of herself although it became obvious quite early on that despite the ever flowing perfectionism, Zixia herself had more of a creative outlet and less of a drive to become a lawyer like her father.

Still, the girl grew into a teenager that put effort into her studies and eventually was accepted into Harvard Business School. It was during her time there that Zixia came across the events and venues that eventually would allow her to consider turning her soon be done business degree into something the young woman would use to build her own business; the planning of weddings and events. While perhaps a seemingly small goal, it worked perfectly with her wish for the idealistic path.

Her mother passed away soon after she graduated from Harvard and her Dad ended up being the one encouraging her to take her ideas to New York; seeing it as a perfect place to start a Wedding and Event planning business. She set out for the world; nothing was the limit and her business soon took off. During one of the events set up by her, a wedding no less, it would be that she’d meet her future husband, Joshua. Joshua seemed like the sweetest gentleman but much like Zixia, he was a workaholic at heart and over time it became an issue.

Two and a half years into their marriage, Zixia discovered that he was cheating with another, coinciding with the death of her father around the same time. Missing her best friend, struggling with the grief and finding herself in the middle of a divorce, Zixia struggled to find the motivation to keep going. On top she still had to manage her business, trying her very best not to let private matters keep her from performing at peak condition. It took its toll on her and soon she could feel the exhaustion, nearing a point of burnout.

Knowing she had to get out, finally she took the chance, made the choice to leave her old life behind. Too much pain, too many sad memories held in New York for her to consider staying in the US. Years after her friend had moved, the need for a fresh start brought Zixia to Las Rio, having seen the beautiful sights and venues during the times when she’d visited her friend, Zixia found a new home in Canada, finally allowing herself the rest she had needed so badly while building up her new business. Despite the perfectionism, this time around she was determined to get it right.

Is there any adaptation where SWK does stay happy with his love interest?

There is surprisingly not a LACK of SOs that do end up with a Wukong but just that you have to be willing to accept it as "Wukong" so to speak.

But otherwise, it is very rare that there is a universe Wukong ends up with a love interest… mostly cause a lot of adaptations are based in the middle of the journey, they are Retellings, hence the return to the status quo is only to be expected, or that it is afterward, where Wukong becomes Victorious Fighting Buddha.

In most circumstances, adaptions that would have Wukong with an SO and have the circumstances where they are able to get together are without a doubt going to be more Alternative Universes where the setting is completely different or Appropriations where they are more character-inspired than anything else.

This is all the one that I am AWARE of at the moment but as you can see a lot more Retellings/Continuations are where Wukong's SO dies and this is mostly for the case of keeping the status quo and moving on with the original plot. They are more like additions of the OG story that let Wukong have his character moment.

It is far more with Alternatives Universes or with other Continuations that there are more 'alive at least' SOs, some in the case of reincarnation or being in a different setting for the plot otherwise. Some of them don't even end up WITH WUKONG (most likely save their lives).

Just depends on what you are watching but traditionally Wukong does not have alive SOs for the sake of the plot/character development, while in other he has them alive where he is less Sun Wukong or is it taken out of the xiyouji context.

If you have any more please let me know cause a lot of plot summaries just DONT include any mention of a romance subplot. I can only imagine WHY.

But it was still hilarious to think Wukong was getting SO’s because it wasn’t him at all. The true imposter syndrome.

I don’t know if you are aware of Chinese odyssey 3, it was kind of like a extra sequel to the series that no one really asked for because it was like a decade later it was made.

But funny thing about the Six Eared Macaque in that one…

So the movie kind of like rewrites the entire story where Six Eared is the “Wukong” at the start of the movie that tried to kill Sanzang, but wait, it was all just a cover-up made by the Jade emperor cause he made a mistake in like the book of destiny or whatever that real Sun Wukong doesn’t exist and instead there is only Joker who was born 500 years later, and he is supposed to go back in time to be Sun Wukong and finish the journey.

Six Eared agreed to play “Wukong” until real Wukong came for the Jade Emperor until he got betrayed himself and was going to be killed because the Jade Emperor didn’t want anyone to know he made a mistake. A lot of bullshit happens that doesn’t matter but the point being Jade Emperor needed Six Eared help again to pretend to be Wukong and bribes him with the knowledge that he has a son with one of his ex girlfriends (terrible knowledge but also got with White Bone Demon and Princess Iron Fan while he was “Wukong”) and his Candle Stick ex girlfriend gave birth to a baby… who is Sanzang in the movie…

I don’t think that movie was well received, because they original series was so well beloved… but it was a fucking wild ride
