This drama is wild in the way only jdramas can be.

Because FL has come to commit suicide on the roof only to be followed by the school's youngest, most disrespected teacher who tries to talk her out of it.

(She is planning to commit suicide ostensibly over her love confession to a fellow student being rejected but the clear underpinning is her utter loneliness - she has no family interaction, no friends, not even friendly acquaintances, this was her one hope of escape from loneliness and it failed.)

But it's a jdrama - we don't get therapy or anything - we get this:

It's pretty clear that the main reason he's saying this is to keep her from jumping because he's not a trained shrink or anything but a really fucked up dude not because he really wants into her pants BUT this is also a jdrama and they love their teacher x student romance so this isn't 100% a lie and even if it isn't truth now it's gonna be.

And she's all "ugh you are SO uncool, I am SO turned off" but she's no longer jumping.

You know what I love about jdramas? How they very much march to the beat of their own drummer. They make whatever the makers want and whatever domestic audiences want. They don't give a hoot about netflix or whatever other international audience - they don't cater to the West or China or whoever in terms of their narratives or topics or style or ANYTHING. You may like it or not but they did not make it for you (unless you are a person in Japan.) And I love that.

That means you can have a drama about the intricacies of bean desserts or kabuki or mid-century steel industry; love stories involving teacher-student, incest or some other taboo topic with a happy ending for the couple; or hell, a drama about talking deer trying to prevent destruction of Japan (real drama, I promise, and a good one) and you get what you get and you don't get upset. Or you get very upset, they don't care.

Lately, Ding Yuxi has trended in weibo for his phenomenal acting in Love Game in Eastern Fantasy and people have started calling it "jinjiang style acting" for being able to portray the fancy and wordy description or narration jinjiang (JJWXC) novel authors use. For context, jjwxc is a chinese website for publishing novels.
