thoughts on joy of life s2 episode 17/18, in which fan xian tries to fight the future ancient china equivalent of the anti-dei movement

fan xian is the most nepo baby to ever nepo baby who is also very genuinely against nepotism

in case anyone wasn't sure, by "character" minister guo definitely means "class" as in "how much money and power does your daddy have"

also in case anyone wasn't sure, that look was fan xian imagining different ways to dismember minister guo

"they should be treated as humans" and that, friends and strangers, is the core motivation of this character and the thing no one will ever be able to change about him no matter how hard they try to grind him down

i am never sure which bits of crown prince acting a buffoon are him being an evil mastermind and which are genuine (i am referring specifically to the water wheel)

fan xian's dinner with the scholars is actually making me cry

there might not actually be that much happening in these episodes compared to the previous ones, but they're so quotable. there are no wasted scenes in this drama. even if they're not exciting, they're laying groundwork and giving incredibly important character insights and growth
