there is nothing on earth that i hate more than woke feminism. makes my blood boil actually! i also hate how terfs and radfems are so intrinsically linked. i don't want to hear anything about 'oh well if you're a radfem you MUST be transphobic they're the same thing!!' they are not! that's why the term 'trans exclusionary radical feminist' exists. because regular radical feminists are not trans exclusionary. however pointing out the differences between trans issues and cis issues is 100% important to radical feminism. just because we're acknowledging that trans women do not face all of the same issues as cis women do does not mean trans women aren't women. for example, there are certain experiences i will never face as a white woman - i can empathize and do my best to listen to my peers - but i will never fully understand the things women of colour are put through, because i am not one. however just because we haven't had the exact same experiences as eachother does not make either of us 'less of a woman' than the other. trans women will never go through certain experiences that cis women do and it is important for us to talk about that. however, we still share a lot of the same issues and pretending like we both go through life experiencing the exact same biases is willfully ignorant.

not to mention!! being a woman is not just about the suffering we go through. and terfs that claim trans women aren't real women clearly view the idea of womanhood as nothing more than an inconvenience when at the end of the day it's truly a beautiful thing.

I have a little rant lol.

In general, the entire acotar fandom is immature and toxic (I honestly think its gotten so bad since nesta's book came out). Most of these people are grown women and men arguing back and forth about characters and ships. It's bad enough that its been going on for years that its sad. "I'll laugh at the elriels or gwnyriels or the eluciens if their ship isnt endgame" Do the people who say that realize how embarrassing they are? Many people are going to have good and terrible theories but bashing people and harassing people over fictional characters is just immature. I also hate when they say "its that [insert ship] the one who is being the most toxic and weird" NO. its all of you. None of us know who is going to be endgame no matter the theories you have or anything. YOU DONT KNOW. So, please, can we stop this already? its getting annoying and weird. This fandom has made it incredibly difficult to know who the next book is going to be about when its right in front of their eyes. Sarah has not made it impossible to know who the next will be about and I think thats why shes been so quiet about because everyone is being so aggressive about this ship war. I just know the moment she announces the couple, she'll get a ton of hate when its not even her fault because people love to twist her words on paper and thinks she's probably doing that but it could mean a whole other thing. Yall have let theories get to your head and twisted words so much that I think it's incredibly unhealthy for all of you to be acting this way. Stick with who you ship or love and of course, you can have beautiful theories, but toxicity is not necessary. No need to go back and forth about who is the real "endgame".

But there are people - and you're right they are from both sides, as I have also said multiple times on my blog -that go out of their way to start a fight on posts they know aren't meant for them.

These are the people that are making this fandom so toxic. Like I understand, no one person can be responsible for a fandom's collective behavior, but you can be responsible for yourself at the very least.

I have always made it clear what i believe acceptable behavior for discourse in this fandom is and isn't. It's not something I can personally enforce for others, but I can follow myself.

It really is crazy how out of hand this fandom has gotten because other people can't control themselves. If I see an anti Elriel post I don't like (and I don't follow any tags, actually, so I see ALL the ships posting), I have the self control to ignore it and keep scrolling.

This fandom has been overrun by childish adults, intent on being louder than the rest. It's crazy how many disgusting things have been said over just fictional characters, it makes me wonder what these people are like in real life.

At the end of the day - there's going to be a book and one side is going to be proven right. It's not worth all these vitriol that's been spewed across all sides just to "be right". I at least, would be perfectly fine to read an Elucien book. If Elriel does happen, I'm certainly not going to lord it over anyone's head and laugh.

Review of Soledad Brother, the Prison Letters of George Jackson

Oof yall are about to get a DISSERTATION on this one. I’ve got a glass of wine and 10 pages dog-earred with quotes. 

George Jackson was imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit (stealing $70 from a gas station) when he was eighteen. He remained in prison until his death at 30, for a total of 12 years. The first two thirds of these letters are to his family, the last third are two various other characters in his life. In his time in prison, he became one of the leading scholars for radical theory within the United States. He wrote a wonderful book, called Blood in my Eye, that I read in a college book club. He is considered to be a modern communist scholar, and many US radicals really dote on his work and his theory.

The first two thirds of the letters, mostly to his family, are, frankly, a little insane. There are manic shifts in mood, between calling his parents wonderful and telling them that they are failing at everything and that they’ll never understand him and are race traitors and whatnot. He also spends pages upon pages of these prison letters detailing the ways in which he feels women are fundamentally inferior to men, and how they need to be cared for by men. 

“As a woman I can undeerstand your being naturally disposed to servitude. I can understand your feelings by what I can’t understand is ehy you would have me feel the same, considering that I am a man. Why have you always attempted to implant womanly ideas into my character.” — july 28, 1967

“ Women and vhildren enjoy and need a strong hand poised above them. They need direction and someone to show concern for them “- sept 24, 1967

“as a woman, you do not(and I guess never will) undersand what it means to be a man in this particular situation here in the US. Women don’t suffer the mental moritifacation of defeat and emasculation that we men do” - oct 1, 1967

I mean, the quotes really speak for themselves. One thing that is so frustrating about them is that Angela Davis really rode for him. Assata Shakur too. Yet, in his private messages, this is what he was writing. It also I think really gets to the sentiment that a lot of radical women feel- which is, no matter how left wing a man can be, he is still going to hate women somewhere deep down. I can’t tell you how many expereicnes my friends and I have had with men who are communists or left wing. they fucking suck and are entitiled sociopaths who use women and then at the mere suggestion that they are upholding patriarchial values they combust and get SO defensive. I think publishing some of this writing in the same work where his theory is being published only normalizes that culture. 

That’s another critique I have of some of his earlier letters- he fully believes he knows everything. He beleives he is some prophet. And yes, he is an incredibly smart man. He has firsthand experience with the carceral system that makes him the perfect person to delve deep into theory and analyze it from his own perspective. But reading some of his letters to his family, he is kinda a pompous ass. That really set me thinking though because I do think you need to have a bit of an ego.

Ok, now all the parts that I loved. The last 1/3 of the letters, most of them from 1970, to his lawyer, Angela Davis, and some other advocates for him, were wonderful. They were art and theory in their purest forms. He starts a letter to his lawyer with

“ Dear Fay,

Slavery is an economic condition. … The New Slavery, the modern varitey of chattel slavery updated to disguse itself, places the fictim in a factory or in the case of most Blacks in support roles inside and around the factor system (service trades), working for a wage.”

And that’s just a sentence. There are pages upon pages of that. It is truly beautiful. Its also amazing that he was able to produce theory this thoroughly researched while incarcerated in incredibly strict conditions. He details his life in prison as a Black man in the 1970s- “ We’re have no past, no future, no goal other than the next meal. We’re afraid, confused, and confounded by a world we know that we did not make, that we feel we cannot change.” This look into the prison system through his letters is horiffic. An interesting point about that is that, the letters that we saw were all ones that passed through prison censorship. He speaks in his letters of all of the other letters that got stopped. We were only getting diluted information about his political views and the conditions that he was experiencing, and it is frightening to think about what more we would know about the carceral system had his other letters made it through. 

This book is an absolute must-read. BUT, I would recommend focusing on the letters from 1970 and to his lawyers and advocates. I also recommend Blood in my Eye- that book is more theory focused.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but this is pseudoscience. Snopes has broken the article down here, but brief explanation from a psych graduate who hasnt done this stuff in detail for a few years:

for one, you cant test for tetrachromacy with this test.

the resolution of the colour spectrum will never be good enough on a phone or computer to test for it.

also, this just isnt how you test for tetrachromacy.

for two, so much of this is worthless fluff.

how you see colour can affect how you dress but not to the extent this article suggests. it vastly understates autonomy.

just because you can see the "full range" of colours doesnt mean you hate yellow. thats just stupid.

for three, these percentages are bullshit.

we dont have a fixed percentages for how many tetrachromats; percentages vary wildly from 15% to 50% of (cis) women and 8% of (cis) men. other percentages ive seen are 2% or 12%.

the most favoured theory for why someone is born with four cones in their eyes is that they are born with XX chromosomes to a colourblind parent with XY chromosomes. i dont feel like i could effectively translate the science behind it so if youre interested, i think this paper explains it well.

also all of this is before we distinguish between functional and non-functional tetrachromats. the vast vast vast vast majority of people with four cones do not experience colour differently to trichromats.

i can pretty much guarantee that anyone reading this is not a functional tetrachromat or a "true tetrachromat"

10 Anti LO Asks

1. im sorry, yall cant tell me RS is some peak of writing when she can't even keep a tone consistent in a single episode. one second its a horrific sequence of violence and abuse for shock value, then the next second theyre making slapstick "jokes" and making goofy expressions. its good to have moments of comedy and lighter episodes to break up the tension, but those tonal whiplashes cant be forced together in nearly every episode. it just gives away rachel doesn't know what she's doing.

2. IDK why RS sounds so angry in her break post? Yeah it's very obvious it was Webtoons making her to do it but them finally showing some care for their creators to not burn out isn't a bad thing? I doubt the writing will improve or the art will go back to its former standard once it comes back, its too late for that now and her former style has been gone since 2019, but having a break isn't a bad idea. I know she isn't used to actually being told what to do by Webtoons is right in this scenario.

From OP: So, from another webtoon creator on twitter, the Remarried Empress creator went on break and only got like 1/10 of their income when they came back. Other webtoon creators were also saying that while on break, their income is basically non-existent. This might not be the reason RS wouldn’t want a break but this is a pretty understandable reason, especially since it’ll affect her livelihood.

I don't think an asexually budded kid would have hades lusting after them, i think it would be bad in the fact hades clearly only sees family through biological means. the bad dynamic would be in he wouldnt accept the child because theyre not what he wants because theyre not from him physically. if that wasnt the case he would have doted after young thanatos like a prince since he would be the child he never had, not mistreat and abuse him like how hades actually treated him as a literal child.

6. tbh if LO started out with the more simple style there would still be art critique but not to such a degree now. we saw how much effort it used to have, so to see such a stark decline since then opens it up way more to criticism for it, because we do know what it once was, and it seems both pure laziness and burn out has caused it to entirely go away. even rs' non lo art now is all in the more current rushed style, so its safe to say that old style is just not coming back, sorry to say :(

7. i feel like a lot of the stans dont get that a lot of frustration at LO is the fact its a very subpar product, especially now, made by an entitled white woman who constantly whines about "haters" who gets everything handed to her for her mediocre work (which is often the work of her underpaid team), meanwhile many more talented, hardworking, and diverse creators (like her own co-workers) who are making so much better products are left in the dirt. How is that not frustrating?

8. I feel like the anon who likes Thanatos and Minthe being likeable and the anon talking about Persephone never being able to stand up for herself/ never being punished go well together.

Minthe and Thanatos do face consequences for their actions. Hermes doing more souls behind Hades back made Thaantos look worse on paper and Hades chewed his ass out for it. Thanatos went to Helios and was burned. We even see Thanatos get nervous when Daphne talks about a Persephone. He’s aware of his actions and what may happen.

Minthe is also aware of her faults actions etc. after she slaps hades she says she needs to apologize, she knows what she did was wrong to Persephone when she sees it on the camera and freaks out. She even wonders why Persephone hasn’t ratted her out yet until it’s used as black mail. Minthe apologizes to hades right before she knows they’re gonna fight about the break up. She even sulks after her fight with Thetis but doesn’t blame anyone else but herself. I’m excluding when Hades fires her because Hades brought her as an employee first into his life girlfriend second and treated her as disposable and tried to smooth things over by just throwing money at her(I’ll pay for your schooling if you never try to bring up the fact I dumped you for a 19 year old, no hard feelings right?;)

But Persephone the worst she is aware is that she’s bad at her job that she doesn’t even do any more. Persephone is just a cloud in the sky not aware of her own actions but that’s fine since they have no consequences and if there’s almost consequences don’t worry hades will throw money at the problem.

I wouldn’t say Minthe and Thanatos are likeable because they face consequences but they’re more rounded out characters with flaws, power in their narrative, overcoming and hiding faults.

Daphne and the nymphs are just said “to be like sisters��� to Persephone but we see no actual proof of this. There’s no good mother and daughter relationships with Demeter, Métis, Leto, even Hera to her own children. The only decent mother relationship is towards Rhea and her SON Hades. Minthe and Thetis were horribly toxic with Thetis especially taking advantage of Minthe. Artemis and Persephone aren’t friends at all, Persephone is instead closer to a guy who had her kidnapped and basically forced her to admit she was SA’d to him! Hera only likes Echo because she’s “one of the good ones” and it’s a gross repeat of HxP being a boss lusting after their worker, but it’s a #diversity win because it’s between two women? I suppose the only “ok” female relationship is Athena and Hestia, but that also comes with the fact they’re the only confirmed LGBTQ+ rep used to oppress the poor straight couple, are still hyper gendered in their designs, and from Rachel’s own mouth is deeply ace-phobic and a horrible depiction of actual gay relationships. For something claiming to be about women and female empowerment, it fails on every front to even show women as anything other than props for the mens’ consumption and benefit.

many cis gay men are really not all that fixated on their partner’s dick. in fact, i’ve had sex with several who weren’t even very fixated on their OWN dick, due to desensitization or something else making it difficult for them to climax witth other people. many are fixated on asses, many are fixated on chests, and many just want to make out. many are focused far more on body contact, pleasing the other guy, and intimacy in general than any body part.

Jiro flashes Mina her phone as she sips iced coffee in the blessed air conditioning of the cafe.

"That's never a good sign." She comments, moon bright eyes glued to the phone as she thinks. 

"What's not a good sign?" Uraraka asks from across the table, the two girls fill her in. 

"Oh." She racks her brain on what that could be, "Okay well I'm dying to know, now."

Jiro's text sent a surge of excitement through Kaminari. It was exactly what he needed after three hours of begging and bribing Bakugou to allow the sorority in or at least invite them. His fingers fly across the screen setting up a date and time for a "meeting over lunch" to discuss the proposition in further detail.  

Meanwhile across campus, you huff, eyes narrowed as a rare emotion is pulled from your fingertips in the form of deadly ice. Pulling the moisture from the air to freeze it or pulling any water towards you to keep your flank safe as your opponent rushes you at breakneck speeds. 

You hated this fucking guy, cocky, brash, so God damn arrogant in the way he held himself, in the way he spoke. It made you nauseous just thinking of him.Had you known he was the male star of this university you wouldn't have transferred, yet you still needed to transfer didn't you? Anything to get out from under the shadow of a certain Todoroki. 

No one cared to admit or to notice, that your quirk was different from Shoto's. You could manipulate water towards you to freeze, and manipulate whatever was already frozen. Your ice was denser and more durable than his and dare you say it colder than his too. Yet no one gave a shit, his was ice AND fire. You were just a one trick pony and a trick they already saw. Your opponent's taunting doesn't help matters much.

"I've already seen this before Ice Brat. Did ya forget where I fucking went to high school?" His hand heats the ice as he activates his quirk before three deafening blasts ring out. 

As you allow him to break down the ice you act on pure rage, securing some revenge from the first time he signed your hair. Pointed icicles lie in wait and once the wall is fully down you give him a nasty smirk before sending the straight his way. 

You're supposed to melt your weapons before they hit your opponent, neither of you are supposed to go all out per the professor's and college's strict rules in the athletics department but Bakugou always does. Somehow his big stupid mouth spews something that eggs you on. As if someone were shoving bamboo skewers beneath your skin, under your nails, sending you into an unheard of rage. 

Normally you were as your quirk, icy, unbothered by the world but Bakugou, God you could wring his neck. Freeze his hot blood as you watch him turn into slush beneath your feet. 

He expects you to abide by the rules, to splash him with glacier water but he realizes it too late. That you won't he let's off a quick blast, shattering two of the four deadly points. One grazes his cheek as he just barely dodges while the other lodges itself into his arm. 

You have half a mind to twist it. You pull at his blood bringing it into your arsenal. Blood red needles and bullets surround Bakugou. 

"I don't think you've seen this before.." You say darkly ready to release your hold and shred him into, give him a taste of his own medicine. Maybe he would see how bitter and nauseating he was. He smirks, opening his mouth to retort but you send your ice his way aiming for non vital spots although the ice creeps closer to your heart begging it to hit something vital. The inside of your ice palace begins to reek of burning sugar and spice, he plans to let out an explosion to bring this whole place down from the inside out. 

Just as he is about to detonate and just as the blood and ice are about to pierce skin the professor bursts into the gym.  

"I step out for five minutes and this is what happens?!"

The ice and blood return to liquid splashing across Bakugou as his skin pops. The professor takes in the damage from your ice and his explosions, still better controlled than most of his other students quirks. 

"I gotta stop pairing these two together." He murmurs to himself before dismissing class. With a flick of your wrist the ice fortress melts, returning to the reservoir below the gym floor, ignoring the molten glare that is sent your way.

"You're such a bitch." Bakugou growls as you pass, flinging blood from his fingers as he wipes at his face. You offer him a fake pitying smile before heading into the women's locker room. 

"Fucking asshole." You hiss, forcing the sight of his garnet gaze out of your mind. Instead turning your attention to your buzzing phone in your locker. It's a few missed calls and some texts in the girl's group chat. Briefly you wonder if you ever should have joined that stupid sorority, it was small, non toxic, and would look good should you need to transfer again. 

Not only did you somehow get elected the president but you also became friends with the three other ladies despite your best efforts not too. 

Mins: Prez we might have a way to save the sorority...lunch after you're done with training? 

IceQueen ❄: Hope it's good, the Dean already put the house up for sale. Let me get ready and I'll be there shortly. 

Mina presents her phone to the crowd around her, Kirishima, Denki, Sero, Jiro and Uraraka do a small celebration. Denki more so than anyone else, he knows the combined car washes will be more than enough to fix up the house, he also recently learned that you had the power of negotiation on your side. Having just listened to Mina retell the story of how you got free food for a month from a bar for yourself and your friends. And not from some sleaze who wanted to sleep with you either, no it was from the owner himself. 

Denki is hopeful and so are the ladies indicating that this may be his best idea yet. 

You arrive at the small bistro early, spying your party on the front patio. The three men had seen you in person before, they knew you were easy on the eyes but up close you were breathtaking. Manicured nails but nothing gaudy, normally nude or soft shades, light makeup, mascara at most as far as they could tell and your outfit was well put together. You were what the world called plus size but everyone else called thiccc. Your confidence oozing in your light blouse tucked into your black skinny jeans, uncaring that you had a pouch. 

You needed that extra fat to keep from freezing by your own quirk. The only thing you needed society to worry about was your intelligence and your power. 

Both were SSR ranked so what did you fucking care that your body was ranked lower. They were stupid in thinking you'd skimp power in the name of vanity. 

You recognize everyone at the table and internalize the dread you're feeling. Scheming is afoot and you're the last to arrive. You can tell by their half finished drinks and picked over appetizer, still you sit and act unaware. Denki goes to hold out his hand first for a formal introduction causing a sly cat smile to settle over your glossy lips. 

"No need, I'm aware of who the three of you are. Sero we share our lingual class, Denki, our chemistry class, and Kirishima we share two classes, world studies and villain hero theory. Truly a pleasure." You tell then your name before ordering something to drink from the lingering waitress. Sitting stick straight with your shoulders backs has the men mirroring you. 

"Well ladies I take it the plan to save the sorority involves these fine gentlemen." You ask coolly and they nod. After a moment of silence Mina and Denki go to speak. Awkwardly encouraging the other to speak until Minai clears her throat. 

"As you know they are a newly formed frat with Sero as their president. They moved into their house about a month ago and they say it is quite large. So they have invited us to move in." 

"How do you propose we ask the college to have a co-ed house? What does this fraternity home even look like?" They knew you would be quick to ask questions Mina answers the first while Denki provides the answer to the second. 

"Union and Diversity. Forming close relationships now to carry over into our hero careers." 

"The house needs some work but looks a lot better than what it did." Denki shows you before and after pictures as you gesture for his phone. He passes you his electric yellow case with nervous hope tingling beneath his skin. You swipe through the photos. 

"You boys did a great job on the outside. Inside needs a lot of work. Hardwoods will be easy to fix, they are original but don't seen to be damaged, a good scrub will spruce them up. Wait, are those?" You zoom in on the photo of the living room, "Are those foldable camping chairs and a VHS tv?" 

They gulp loudly as they nod, your purse your lips in disapproval. 

"I can fix that." You pass Denki back his phone, assuming that all the roommates will be present, "I see the main focus was the kitchen but some of the appliances seem to be on their last legs. I can fix that as well." 

"Soooo….So it's a yes?" Jiro asks, feeling relief for the first time in months since they received the letter of eviction. 

"Gotta get the college to agree first." You think on it a moment, "But I'm sure we can arrange that. Uraraka can you draft an email to the Dean requesting an official meeting regarding our sorority? Be sure to explain in detail our situation, how we are being forced to disband by their account and the solution we have. Make sure it's an afternoon meeting too. The dean hates to miss golf with our rival university's dean." 

With the plan set in motion all of you return to your evening classes. Jiro nudges Denki in the ribs, listening to his heart race from their closeness. 

"When are we going to tell her about Bakugou?" She throws her almost lover a look that he seems to wither beneath. His jaw tics before he retorts. 

"I think we should wait to see if this even works first." 

After a week the important meeting arrives and as you thought the Dean is already exhibiting signs of impatience. He is more than ready to wrap this up and you already know his answer is going to be no. Already trying to get it out before the four of you can even have a seat. 

Still you weren't the Ice Queen on campus for nothing. You saunter into the room, mineola folder filled with your copies of counterpoints pressed firmly to your chest, you can already see he doesn't have the copies you sent him. You place the folder down and open it, leafing through the pages as you speak. 

"This request is going to be approved and here are the reasons why. An example of sexism could be made that a new fraternity was approved housing, new housing, after a decades old sorority was deemed "too small" both parties are similar in count. Second funding and donations are easily influenced with letters to alumni and especially by attendees to this university. My transfer from YAU has brought in revenue of roughly 2.6 million dollars, increasing your diversity for women when this is normally a male dominated school. I am aware that my transfer had even encouraged other students from YAU to transfer here. Which I'm sure is one of your favorite bragging points to tell Dean Fraunk during your weekly golf trips isn't it? So it would truly be a shame if these points would come to light in the investigation of my return to YUA just months before the university sports festival. I do look amazing in Ice Blue you know. Matches my quirk a lot better than Maroon." You put the ball in his court, he is visibly upset, eyes flying to the facts that you've presented. All important, viable facts. You were right MMU was known to be a male dominated school and the media would have a field day if they uncovered a mistake he happened to look over. Not to mention you were his main bragging point, Dean Yuzi always talked about how he had stolen you, the female star of rising heroes, from YUA.  The silence in the room is amplified by the ticking of the clock, seconds accumulating into minutes as it counts down his T time with his old college buddy and rival. He gulps nervously, knowing what he has to do in order to keep both his bragging rights and a law suit under wraps. He looks up to you as you wear your stone cold face, making him think of a loan shark who hasn't been getting their payments on time. He is fearful for your future boss.  

"I believe I have no choice but to approve." 

"Correct." You respond, "Now we have a bit more to discuss. I noticed that classrooms 456 and 215 are being remodeled. Those gently used flat screens will be given to our house since it is technically college property. Common space 3 and 1 are being renovated in dorms A and B. We will accept the leather arm chairs as they are in good shape but we demand a new couch. I know it is in the budget as I help plan the budget. I also believe it is time for an allowance for our hybrid house." The Dean shrinks away from your tenacity, nodding as that is all he can do.  

"Well this is a generous offer and should cover most of the basic necessities such as a new fridge and mattress. The aesthetic we will be raising funds for. Kindly spread the word, we don't want to take up more of your time and be late with your 'meeting' with Dean Fraunk." You place a flyer on his desk as you turn on your heel. The rest of the sorority, mouth agape following suit. Yuzi looks down at the flyer, head hung in a mixture of disbelief and shame as he reads over the neon paper advertising a co-ed car wash. 

He just hopes you and Bakugou are worth the trouble.

ok i know yall know of the ty lee is an air nomad theory, but all that takes into account is her eye and hair color, heavy spirituality and fighting style. so i just had the biggest fucking brainwave of all time. if yall look at pictures of aang and ty lees outfits from their first introduction they look very similar: 

as you can see, they both have:

a tight under shirt of a lighter color, with sleeves that end, or are tightened at the elbow, they both flare at the end

 a light colored baggy pants that are secured slightly below the knee

a waistband that sits at a slightly dropped waist, of a darker color

a sort of popped collar that is attached to the undershirt.

an overshirt type thing of a darker color.

pretty shapeless shoes. 

this is in comparison to fire nation clothing like the gaang in book 3:

they have:

pointy or toeless shoes,

formless or slightly bagged pants 

the popped collar as decoration, not as an undershirt, they also seem to be much thicker 

there are seams or closures down the front that are not included in air nomad clothing

no flared sleeves, also the sleeves end mostly at the shoulder

TY LEE’S CLOTHES ARE AIRBENDER OR AIRBENDER INSPIRED

not to mention her hair, there are no braided hairstyles seen on fire nation women, whereas airbender women seen in flashbacks seem to keep their hair up in ponytail or braided styles like ty lees. 

Also their hair is kept much longer than mai or azula’s hair, azula seems to have mid length hair while ty lees hair while up and braided reaches her waist. 

All of ty lees style choices seem to be based off of airbender culture, which she would have no access to. the fact that she strayed so far from mainstream firebender fashion.

Another thing to add is her sisters style, they all wear braided hair like ty lees. It seems to be a family thing that ty lee doesnt deviate from even when trying to be very different from her sisters. She mentions in the beach episode that she hates being part of a matched set so why does she wear her hair the same way as her sisters? it might be because the hairstyle is significant, a tradition passed down from her ancestors to keep airbender pride and tradition alive. ok edit because i just had another brainwave:

ty lees fashion and hair are just acceptable versions of fire nation ones, the survivors of the air nomad genocide were surely baited into communities that resembled air nomad lifestyles and killed, ty lees ancestors must have been very smart to conceal their lineage to the fire nation. So heres my new theory, ty lee’s fashion is just an assimilated version of fire nation fashion. 

if you look at her overshirt it looks like the fire nation like (shoulder pads?) that the soldiers and other fire nation residents are seen wearing:

if you look at her oufit you can see the triangular shaped overshirt and slits in the overskirt, which looks very much like ty lees overshirt and overskirt. 

another thing to note is her signature hairstyle is also an assimilated version of azulas hairstyle. If you go back to avatar yangchens hair, you see a braided hairstyle. But if you notice other air nomad women have low hairstyles such as this woman:

this was something that kind of refuted my theory about ty lee as she has a high ponytail, but if you look at azula and other firebender’s hair it is in a bun at the top of the head, so if you combine airbender hair with fire nation you see ty lees high braided ponytail. 

She and her ancestors had to keep everything inconspicious as to not get caught and killed, and honestly the detail of the fashion makes this theory so much more layered and more believable to me. More so than the eyes and hair color theory. If we ever get more comics i would really love to see more of ty lees family because it could open up so much about how they escaped the genocide.

You're the first person to acknowledge I'm an ex radfem, though to be fair, I hate noting that as well.

I never had a peak trans moment - or rather, I was that moment, I guess? I couldn't accept that I wasn't only a woman or only a man, and spent years struggling to force myself into one box or the other and failing. In exhaustion I turned to the people who promised to make the whole entire question go away permanently. I spent most of my time in the detransitioner circle, because that was where I felt most comfortable. But as I spent years with radfems, reading and reciting their views, questions started to arise.

If dysphoria could be cured by ignoring it, why were the facebook groups constantly full of posts of people on the verge of killing themselves in misery? Why did none of them get better like what they promised?

If males are innately evil and females are innately weak, what is the point of feminism? Radical feminism is built on the concept nothing can change and the only way to be safe is to hide away and shun.

Who is this 'average woman' and why does every radfem insist on limiting themselves to her capabilities? Every time anything was brought up, like lifting weights, I'd get tons of replies that the 'average woman' can not do that, despite statistics like that not even being meant to be used in that context! Its supposed to track trends!

If sex is so solid, why does science keep showing how a lot of women have 'male' traits and vice versa. Back when I was around the radfems of this site rejected the sexed brain theory, but just a casual scan shows ya'll accept it now? Even today I keep finding new studied showing how our bodies are basically the exact same, just with different parts active due to hormones.

I'm not sure if yall still do this, but back in my day there used to be these lists of physical features only males and females have, and I became so insecure because my skull was male-coded! And that was with me being too white to understand the other racist undertones to those lists.

If you can not identify into an experience that is not your own, why is one of the base tenants of radical feminism political lesbianism?

All the books and essays write real pretty - but the only thing they do is take trauma response and spread them further, convincing you your fear response isn't paranoia, but a legitimate threat response, to the point a lot of radfems I knew on a one to one basis were afraid to leave their house.

All of the things I remember radfems screaming for is happening now, and just like trans people tried to warn them, it has led to awful things for everybody, to the point we now live in a fascist country. No I'm not saying radfems solely caused project 2025 and all that, I'm saying they worked real, real hard on adding to the fire that led to all this.

Honestly, despite this, I still stuck around far long than I should have. The breaking point was when I joined spinster and left the cozy little cache of tumblr rad feminism. See, here, yall are still somewhat seated in reality, and those who start to become extreme are ran out of the community. You reject polilesbianism and still try to be open to everybody (except trans people....). But elsewhere, that is far from the truth. I became somewhat known on spinster, which allowed me to see all of the community that had gathered there at once, and it terrified me. The transvestigators on twitter screaming how everybody around them is trans and personally out to get her and writing big long diagrams to show Marilyn Monroe was born a man? THAT is late stage radical feminism. That is what all of the people here are headed for if they don't get out. And the sheer vile hatred towards everyone was overwhelming. Those radical feminists were gloves off about how they thought detransitioners were disgusting mutilated freaks, how actual lesbians were predators who were basically men because they were attracted to women physically instead of it being a political movement, even the mobs against women who dared to have sons. There were women bragging about having nazi friends because they supported her transphobia.

I left 5 years ago. A lot of my initial post is aimed at the fears and doubts I had walking away, that I would be alone and shunned and considered tainted by anyone I met. I was used to the treatment already from radfems for not being a gold star lesbian and they had done everything they could to convince me the outside world hated me, only they would ever tolerate my presence, and I believed them. And to be fair, even when I got out, with my obligatory thread about how I was actually innately evil, a spy, not really a radfem, a male this whole time!, all the favourite mental disorders that every exiting radfem gets saddled with, I was still half rabid and not fit for civilization. I did not leave to go become a trans ally or whatever, but to just get away before I was permanently broken too. It took a lot of time for me to pull all those fears and self hatred and ignorance out of my head, and ironically, it took an abusive relationship to make me realize how far I had fallen as a person. Before radfeminism, I prided myself in how I was never afraid to step up and even physically fight anybody who tried to hurt me, considering myself immune to abuse because of that. But as one of the radfem's pet detransitioners, I had became small, meek, and afraid, and since she too was a radfem, she was good at tearing me down in ways I was still raw about. Even though I saw what was happening to me, I still reacted the way i had been trained to in my time in this community, slicing parts off of me and trying desperately to force myself into the shape she demanded I be so she'd stop hurting me, and it just grew worst and worst. She finally abandoned me after I stopped being fun to emotionally kick around, and then I felt as alone as I had feared I would be.

But. . . it was then, separated completely from the radfem sphere, with only myself and my beloved brother to pick me up, was I able to start to heal. Without the constant feedback of be afraid be afraid be afraid and going out and having good interactions, I began to relax. I found that my obnoxious judgements of people based off something as stupid as a misspeak on their part or not matching MY political purity or even their sex was stopping me from getting friends, so I dropped them. I gave them room to be people around me, and I found I loved them, and in return they loved me, and through their eyes, I came to love myself in a way I never had before. And when I approached people as people, instead of just the labels I was taught to straddle them with, I learned and it expanded my world so much. I truly hadn't realized how tiny and grey my world had become, how isolated and shut in I was. And now I'm engaged, I have things I do every week with my friends, I'm greeted when I go out and am invited to things. Hell, the depression I was convinced was chronic hasn't popped up in almost 2 years now? Turns out it was situational, and I just never managed to get out of the Situations long enough to figure it out before, haha. I finally got over my internalized transphobia and accepted I'm both man and woman, and its okay. All of the mental strain and distress I had put myself under resolved immediately and I'm so much healthier now. And that was before I found out I'm intersex and physically both too. I embraced my transness and in that other trans people found me and became my friends, even when I admitted my past mistakes, because they see how I strive constantly to be better and to make up for them. The people who knew me as a terf and now tell me I'm a completely different person. Even the really bad misogny I had picked up from radical feminism because it puts womanhood on a too high to reach pillar then punishes anybody who can't reach it disappeared. By seeing women as people first and foremost instead of just their sex, I let go off the weird assumptions I was trying to hold them too. That makes me a million times the feminist I pretended to be back then. In short, I finally grew up emotionally.

I don't have any radical feminism beliefs anymore, and will never have any of them ever again, because they don't mesh with material reality.

The woods thing isn't related to paganism, but both a reference to the female only radfem camping trips that used to happen yearly up in California and a weird message I got on Spinster inviting me out into some woods close to me in order to (I always forget the exact word she used! I wish i remembered) center my feminity, reconnect with Womanhood, something like that. Is the camping trips cancelled? To be fair, a lot of the rad fems I hung around and knew by name were Californian for some reason lol.

Really, I wrote this post as a love letter to the me that existed 5 years ago. I wish I hadn't started with a sarcastic meme joke, but when I started that post I figured I'd delete it and it wouldn't matter, but then decided what the hell. Radfems can't hurt me anymore, and who knows, maybe something I write there will resonate with other people wanting out but hasn't mustered the courage yet.

18. What’s something that you wish they would have done differently this season?

Honestly I didn't like Devi's apology after starting the rumor about Aneesa's eating disorder. Was it in character to get up on a table and shout a public apology with the rest of the student body watching? Yes. But the proper apology would have been in an one-on-one, intimate setting. I also feel like the implications of gossiping about anorexia so flippantly should have been discussed in more detail. NHIE has the perfect platform to bring awareness to that problem. I'm glad they linked the wannatalkaboutit resource at the end, and I don't think they handled the issue super poorly, but there could have been a trigger warning before the relay episode (I personally didn't see one, lmk if yall did!) or discussion from a professional's POV of how the rumor was fucked up. At the same time, I've never experienced an eating disorder so the show's handling of the issue is not mine to judge, but those who have been affected by one.

I also just hated how Devi tried to cover up the rumor by launching a student investigation. Yes it was in character and ultimately she confessed but I would love to see her take better accountability for her actions.

I also would have been fine with Aneesa not accepting Devi's apology and Devi learning that it's not people's job to accept her apologies (because I think that's a huge issue with her) I think it's a valuable lesson that sometimes if you fuck up, people won't forgive you, or at least take more than a few episodes too (I've heard this happens in BoJack Horseman and happened a bit in Crazy Ex Girlfriend too)

Smaller opinion: I also thought Fabiola and Dr. Jamie Ryan were ROBBED of screen time. They should have been in there more!

Okay, multiple things. Can we like, give Ben Gross some friends? Like he has no friends besides Malcolm, who sucks ass so he doesn't really count.

Also, I'm hoping the show pulls a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and fully diagnoses Devi's mental health problems so she can adequately seek out more intensive therapy and medication if she needs. I really want her to be her best self, she definitely has had character development but she still lacks the ability to self-regulate emotions and actions. I hope season 3 gives her a lot more therapy than this one did (though I adored the scene where she broke down to Dr. Jamie Ryan. Again, I'm in love with Dr. Jamie Ryan)

Also I hated how Sasha (Eve's friend) constantly insulted Fabiola and no one completely stood up to her. It was rude as fuck and I did not like her. Justice for Fabiola!

20. What are your hopes/theories for season three?

Okay I have a few theories. I think that Nirmala or Aneesa will end having the individual episode. I hope that Nirmala and Devi forge a bond and Devi will realize appreciate the connection she has to her dad through her.

In general, I hope that Devi will learn to overcome her internalized racism/misogyny and appreciate Kamala and not see other Indian women as competition. I think this season was a step in that direction after her encounter with Aneesa, but I would love to see her talk that out in therapy. (wow all my headcanons include therapy)

I hope that Eleanor goes back to dating Oliver because I actually loved him and think he's hilarious and sweet. I also am hoping for more Sharon and Mr. Wong because they are the best and totally under appreciated.

I think that Ben will end up being Paxton's boyfriend tutor and I'm hoping they forge a friendship! Paxton will ultimately realize that Ben knows and cares about her better than anyone and chaos will unfold heehee

I'm hoping Paxton continues to grow and develop as a character and grow more confident in his ability to be intelligent. My biggest fear is that Paxton is afraid he isn't smart enough for Devi, and her leaving him for Ben would only reinforce those ideals. I hope they ultimately realize that Ben is a better fit for her, or they break up for other reasons.

Honestly, at the end of season 3 I just want Devi to be happy and mentally stable. Again, my hope for her is that she receives a diagnosis for her mental health problems and ultimately gains the proper treatment she needs (because I don't think therapy once a week is enough for her) I absolutely love Ben and Devi together and I'll be so so so happy if season 3 culminates with a confession of love, as long as Devi has grown into the person she wants to be. I think that she and Ben need to cultivate that trust and security in their relationship again that was lost after dating other people, and she needs to show up as her best self for Ben as well (because let's be real she has screwed him over and he doesn't deserve that) I would love if season 4 ended with a big romantic gesture of Devi to Ben because the sweet boy deserves it!

first of all, this is hard for me to answer because I genuinely cannot read a book through to the end if I don't like it. I won't go past fifty pages if it's annoying me. So there are only a handful of books I can say I hated because I wasted time reading them, and even those I didn't finish.

But there are two, and one of them I actually talk about it all the time

First of all, fuck you, Flaubert. Fuck Emma Bovary. Fuck that book. Not only financial compensation, but emotional of some sort, cause you go through the 7 stages of grief reading that piece of garbage. Not after, during.

Like, every time I try to explain why I hate Madame Bovary so much I tell this little anecdote about my life. It was probably 2AM, I was still living with my mom, and I was in the living room. Back then, the History Channel---before it became exclusively devoted to Aliens, Hitler, and World War II---had a super interesting show called, I believe it was, Great Books. I caught only a few episodes, there was one on Janes Austen, another on Dostoevsky---and yes, one for Madame Bovary. Which was the one I saw that night.

And on that night, I was just chilling on my ass, and there was this expert on Flaubert explaining how the guy came up with the idea for the book. This woman had a PhD in literature. She studied Flaubert's life and history down to the letters and his intimacy. And I chuckled to myself, completely alone---and listen, you're free to believe whatever the hell yall want, but I swear on my cat this shit is true---and said to myself: "I bet this guy ran away to a cabin and dressed himself as woman to write this book." In fact, I hate Madame Bovary SO MUCH I've making this joke for YEARS, and it's why I call that pile of regurgitated french trash "literary transvesty" because it is literally a man playing dress up with no counter-balance to the absolute derailment of this woman's down-spiral. It's just the story of Emma Bovary going off her rockers, and there's no point where there might a slight indication of societal criticism. She's just a piece of shit. You know, at LEAST Tolstoi gave us Kittie and Levine as a counter-point. At LEAST Tolstoi built-up an immense backdrop with Stepane's adultery to understand the horrid treatment Anna is subjected to. At LEAST we are given a good characterisation of Karenine enough, whereas Charles Bovary is limper than a soggy sock. The only Ken doll I owned as a child had more charisma, and that bitch had no clothes.

And AT THAT POINT in the documentary, that lady expert with a whole PhD says something to this effect: APPARENTLY, Flaubert DID run off into a cabin in the fucking woods or some shit, and he did so with a locket, and what was in that locket? The hairs of his lover. Like, oh my God, I hate you so fucking much.

What I hate THE MOST about Madame Bovary is that despite being a shit book and shit story, and having been written by a guy who purposefully isolated himself from the woman he loved in the ass of the world, with a piece of her hair, as he dead ass attempted to "become a woman", whatever the hell that meant (but then again, so did every romantic writer back in the 19th century), this motherfucker was trialled in a court of law for this book (because adultery, women are frail, scandal, blah blah blah), and his defense was so amazing he actually coined a very important term in writing called Indirect Free Speech. Like, I genuinely hate this motherfucker but this absolute genius final take on his shit book just makes me hate him more. (For reference, this is where I learned this, Hans Robert Jauss explains this in his book Reception Theory)

The second book I think I deserve financial compensation for wasting the like, 3 days I wasted reading those first 100 pages or so, was Juliet Marillier's Daughter of the Forest. Oh my God. Listen, back in the day, like every teenage girl in the early/late 2000s, I was discovering paganism and that kind of crap, so I had a lot of wiccan friends. And there was Charmed. Not the rebooted crap, the OG Charmed, when Rose McGowan was closeted terf and we believed she was cool. Everyone loved Charmed. And everyone who bought into the new-pagan stuff and wiccan stuff, they were all introduced by one of two ways: either it was Charmed, or The Mists of Avalon. Either or. No other way. At least around my circle, that is.

So I had a lot of friends squealing over this one book from Marillier. I was absolutely obsessed with Arthuriana because of Mists of Avalon, and my wiccan/goth friends were all over me telling me "OH you GOTTA read Daughter of the Forest if you love Mists of Avalon". It's comforting to know the one wiccan friend who persisted with that crap went wacko and literally vanished into the horizon because I wanted to smack her in the face with that stupid book.

Basically, at the time, I was balls deep into Irish Mythology. And as I read it, I thought it was EERILY SIMILAR to the Children of Lir. Evil stepmother transforming her step-children into swans? Hm? The one thing that threw me off was that, in the story, the hero had to sew these shirts from some godawful plant that fucked up her hands, and that ISN'T in the original Children of Lir story. Then again, Children of Lir is genuinely not a compelling story. Of all Irish myths, it might be the least compelling.

However, I recently learned that IT IS the same tale, despite what Marillier sold as being "inspired by the Brother Grimm". It turns out the Children of Lir is a tale known throughout Europe, spanning from Spain to Ireland, with some variations, and it exists in Germany, where the sewing of the shirts with that weird plant is a plot point. So I guess that was a determent, considering the story is set in Ireland. Also, you can tell the story was written by a herbalist because, oh my god she goes off about plants all the time.

I basically stopped reading because the heroine is a bit obnoxious and it felt like the plot was going nowhere. And at some point, it was literally a book about plants. Like, Marion Zimmer Bradley's books can be boring (take the Forst House, which is one of my favourites, there's gotta be like 100 pages in there about Eilan's boring life picking flowers, but it builds up to her character, at least). But this one, it was going nowhere, while at the same time, Bretons were landing in Ireland? What? My anger came from when I checked the wikipedia page before I gave up because I wanted to see if there was something redeemable in that shit, like, come on, motivate me. And when I read that there's a fucking rape plot thrown in there that bears no relevance for no other reason than... I don't know, fear of men? I gave up. That was definitely when I stopped reading and decided to set it aside. It's weird cause, from what I remember, I think the author wanted to write it in pagan Ireland, but I don't remember a single mention of a pagan god? It was so convoluted, man.

And why the Children of Lir??? I 100% share the opinion of Sorcha Hegarty from Candlelit Tales regarding the Children of Lir: it is THE LEAST interesting tale in Irish Myth, and also---and these are her words, not mine---the least Irish lmao

Honourable mention: Thérèse Raquin by Zola is another one that made me SO FUCKING PISSED OFF that piece of shit book REQUIRES psychological counseling. Like, financial compensation isn't even enough to go through that crap.
