Cat! So i have heard about the new agenda..... Cuddle the dog??? What a delightful idea!!! Do you have any tips about what are dog's favourite ways to be treated well? What kind of things will make him feel warm and happy and loved??? If dog is having a bad day, what could his friends - maybe a certain werewolf - do to make the dog feel better?? Any fluffy scenarios or headcanons you would love to share? 😍

Bat!!! So happy that you asked about this important agenda!!!

The dog grew up not getting any cuddles, so when he meets his new best friend, the stag, it takes him a while to understand that cuddle the dog could even be an agenda. He grew up mostly knowing the ignore the dog, kick the dog, break the dog's will, scream at the dog, belittle the dog, compare the dog to the dog's brother, tell the dog he will never fulfill his potential, tell the dog he is a disgrace to his family,... agendas, so this new cuddle the dog agenda makes him very uneasy at first, he even goes out of his way to avoid it. He gives the shortest, stiffest hugs, but living with the stag, the wolf and the rat makes it sort of unavoidable to get (accidentally) cuddled sometimes, huddling together under the invisibility cloak, the four of them sitting together on a common room sofa meant for two, the wolf accidentally falling asleep in the dog's bed, the stag having no concept of other people's personal space and regularly giving the dog big crushing hugs after quidditch victories or if the doe only rolls her eyes at him instead of hexes him.

Eventually the stag notices how uneasy the dog is with the whole cuddle the dog or even just hug the dog briefly agenda and they talk about it. The dog never felt at ease with physical affection but the stag makes it all seem so easy, the dog wants to try and enjoy it, he just never learnt how to. He reluctantly admits that he likes how the stag doesn't hold back his affection, and can openly and loudly admit to loving his friends as well as hug them whenever he feels like it. The dog is both bad at expressing his feelings verbally and physically, but the stag doesn't mind, he knows and loves the dog and tells the dog he doesn't need to change in order to be loved. The dog cries a little and reluctantly leans into the stag who's sitting beside him on his bed, and puts his arm around the dog and lets him have a good cry.

The dog starts to very shyly hug back whenever the stag (or, on rare occasions, the rat or even rarer, the wolf) hugs him. After the dog manages his first transformation into his true dog form he actually initiates his very first hug, so happy that he and the stag and the rat can now help the wolf.

When they show the wolf their animal forms, the wolf starts crying and the dog is again the first one to start a hug that all four of them participate in, ending up with the wolf on the floor, three very excited boys on top of him, all crying and laughing, and the dog realizes how far he has come, that he can now have this, three best friends who love him, who he loves, who he can cry and laugh with and who he would absolutely die for, no questions asked.

Later the dog has to learn all about the ways in which the wolf likes to be cuddled and taken care of, and the wolf learns all about the ways he can make the dog feel so, so loved, how to cuddle the dog, how to show up and be there for the dog and how to show the dog how much love he deserves. Both the dog and the wolf struggle with this, so it doesn't come as easy to them as it does to the stag, but they learn from and with each other, and find so many small moments of joy in each other's company, creating a perfect little world full of cuddles and love that's just for the two of them.

The dog spends many years yearning for that perfect world, mourning the life he has lost and cursing the decisions that led to him losing that glimpse of a perfect life that was way too short, filled with memories that are now forever tainted by what happened with the rat and the stag.

So when the wolf and the dog reunite, the dog has once again forgotten that he is deserving of love, deserving of cuddles, deserving of anything good really. The wolf and the dog embrace like brothers puppies but now both of their embraces have a certain air of desperation, they are both so lost and trying to cling to each other in a desperate attempt at finding their way back to themselves. The hard part isn't learning to trust each other again, that comes surprisingly easy, considering the circumstances. No, the hard part is letting the other one close again, and not getting overwhelmed by all the memories and the history, of everything they have lost and everything they could have had. The hard part is being seen, fully and with nowhere to hide. The dog often hides in his animal form, and the wolf understands. Cuddling the dog in his animal form comes so naturally to the wolf, sometimes he is secretly glad of the dog being more comfortable like that. But the dog also misses the wolf's human touch on his own human body, only it seems both of them have forgotten how to do that, and now there is no stag, no youthful ignorance and excitement, no naive and wonderful hope for the future left to help them and guide them along the way, to make things easier.

The wolf and the dog have to learn slowly, reluctantly and very carefully how to be close again, how to cuddle again without letting the fear of losing everything, the fear or breaking themselves and each other overwhelm them. The dog loves it when the wolf washes and brushes his hair, and the wolf is happy to help the dog, it seems like a safe way for them to learn how to touch each other as humans again. The wolf hates it when people coddle him after he transforms into a different wolf once a month, but the dog remembers how he used to take care of the wolf, and he tries to gently touch him like he did when they were young and happy, and those touches remind the wolf of all the things they had and all the things they could still have, if they find their way back. It takes time for them to both remember how they liked to be touched and find out all the ways in which they have changed, things they liked that they now hate or don't care for and things they never cared for but that suddenly give them comfort. Both the wolf and the dog find joy in those quiet explorations, in finding new ways to show the other one how much they are loved and how much love is still there, after all these years, after everything that has happened.

"I guess tonight's going to be fun,"  - you thought to yourself. the evening was going great, your new friends were sharing secrets about the city and giving you tips on the best places to visit. you drank - a lot. later, your favorite song started playing: chase atlantic's "die for me." the whole club erupted in excitement, and your group decided to hit the dance floor.

as you entered the dance area, you realized that those five cocktails had done their job. everything around you became brighter, and for the first time in days, you let go and just started to have fun. you and the girls danced together, while the guys occasionally joined in, watching you with hungry eyes. moments like these made your confidence skyrocket. you loved the attention.

someone in your group kept handing out cocktails, and only now did you realize you had forgotten to eat. drinking on an empty stomach wasn’t the best idea. you told your friends you’d be right back and headed to the restroom to freshen up. the walk to the bathroom was difficult, you held onto the wall, laughing to yourself about how much fun you were having.

after splashing your face with cold water, you looked at yourself in the mirror. “yeah, I'm hot, Vi definitely noticed that,” - you said to yourself in a tipsy voice. “she has no idea what I'm capable of.”

smiling at your reflection, you came up with a little game. taking out your phone from your purse, you found Vi's number in your contacts. “you don’t want to talk to me, then you flirt? let's see how you handle this.”

a second later, the call went through, and on the other end, you heard Vi's sleepy voice, “cupcake?”

“what’s up with that nickname anyway? if I had bought cookies instead that day, would I be 'cookie'?” - you laughed at your own joke, as if it were the funniest thing you'd ever said.

“are you okay? I can barely hear you,” Vi replied in her usual cold tone.

“I'm calling to let you know that your flirting doesn't work on me. in fact, I'm at a club right now,” - you said, then lowered your voice to a sultry whisper, “I’m planning to take off my panties and dance till dawn. have a good night, Vi.”

smiling to yourself, you ended the call. you felt proud. “that's how it’s done.”

you returned to the dance floor with your friends, and they immediately handed you another drink. you started dancing again, feeling someone's hands on your waist, pulling you closer from behind. you danced like that through a few tracks before your classmate turned you to face him, your hands resting on his shoulders while his hands gripped your waist and wandered over your body.

suddenly, you felt someone pull you away from your dance partner. your eyes went wide in surprise. “Vi?”

“we're going home, say goodbye to your friends,” - she said, pulling you toward the exit. you barely remembered the way back home, but Vi held onto your elbow firmly the whole time. she practically shoved you into the apartment when you got there.

“what do you think you're doing? I was having a good time. what right do you have to drag me away in the middle of the party?” - your head was spinning, and the apartment was dark, making you feel disoriented.

“go to bed, cupcake,” - Vi replied coldly.

“no way, I’m going back to my friends. I'm going to dance, and you can keep smoking your weed here in your loneliness. you can hug your punching bag while I have fun with real people.”

suddenly, you felt yourself being pinned against the wall. Vi's body pressed against yours, her grip on your waist so tight that a pained moan escaped your lips.

“you want to act like a little slut? go ahead. just don't call me in the middle of the night and tell me how you plan to rub up against your classmates on the dance floor without panties," - she said through gritted teeth, her heavy breath almost touching your lips.

you licked your dry lips. "I totally forgot about that call."

“Vi, I...”

“like the attention, huh? maybe I’ll give you the attention you’re so desperate for,” - she said, gripping your neck, making you let out a moan. “think you can tease me? I don't think so.”

“don't provoke me, cupcake. you have no idea what I want to do to you right now,” - Vi said, her grip on your waist tightening as she seemed to enjoy the little moans that escaped you with each touch.

“make me,” - you said sharply, locking eyes with Vi, whose gaze darkened at your words.

a moment later, Vi's strong hand shoved you into your room. she closed the door behind her and, with one swift move, threw you onto the bed. for a brief moment, she studied your body, barely covered by that piece of fabric you called a dress. she was above you in an instant, pressing her body against yours on the bed.

her hand grabbed your neck again, the grip was strong, but it aroused you so much that you moaned against her lips.

“just look at that - little slut likes it when I use force. do you think you can fool me with that A+ student look?” she whispered into your ear, grabbing your thigh in a way that made your legs spread open instantly. I’m going to preface this by saying that I also got annoyed about a similar phenomenon around my favorite character in C2 (Caleb) so I don’t think this is just an Imogen problem but:

I’m increasingly frustrated with the way a lot of the fandom talks about Imogen and especially how other characters interact with her. There’s a lot of super uncritical “how could you be mean to my poor baby” that crops up even when she might kind of need to hear some hard-to-swallow truths and be questioned.

It ends up creating a fan environment around a character where it seems like some of the most vocal “fans” act like she’s so fragile she needs to be protected from any challenge or hardship or confrontation of her own fears - and what makes this frustrating is that the context of this character is that she’s in a D&D game. Challenge is the thing that will move and progress the character in that medium.

So I’d like to offer an alternative to the framing of that moment with Imogen, Orym, and Laudna I keep seeing. Yes, Orym was blunt, but he wasn’t exactly providing new information, just a reminder of the stakes and their job. “I’m pushing everyone” - I mean, of course! At this stage, why wouldn’t you if people faltered? In contrast I see Laudna’s clinging to soothing and comfort and “you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to” to be a depiction of how sometimes that kind of expression of love isn’t actually helpful and merely allows for continued indecision and stagnation. Imogen may end up disagreeing on a course of action with Orym, sure, but trying to stop her from even considering or engaging with alternatives is a smothering affection also borne of fear that doesn’t allow Imogen agency.

The interesting contrast with Caleb is that it was Nott, his ride or die pal, who was often the one pushing and challenging him to grow. And don’t get me wrong, the similar fandom problem I noted at the top with Caleb absolutely targeted Nott and later very strongly Veth for daring to tell him blunt or uncomfortable truths. But Imogen’s ride or die girl isn’t pushing her, she’s doing the opposite and trying to cocoon her. Which I guess the fandom “protect my poor precious fave” impulse agrees with and doesn’t read as its own kind of interpersonal issue.

Imogen does need to be challenged if only so she can decide, truly, what she wants to achieve out of being on Ruidus and how far she’s willing to go. She’s a deeply conflicted character who has a lot of fascinating conflicting agendas she’s struggling with. If she is never pushed or never pushes herself she may not take the time to actually consider where her personal line is. Someone constantly agreeing with and shielding someone can be a problem in its own right.

This Richard Hanania piece was quite good for crystallizing some thoughts I had around the toxic nature of the electoral college. Obviously the electoral college is dumb - it is undemocratic in an arbitrary way, just randomly rewarding certain voters. I think idea of a system empowering "rural voters" would be really bad, but if that is your goal fair enough; it is telling that so many defenders of the EC will do so on grounds like that, but it doesn't do that! It just randomly empowers people in Pennsylvania, agonistic of density of living.

But more than it being undemocratic, it results in pernicious political dynamics - national elections being decided by tiny slivers of voters such that their hobbyhorse topics get undue preference. It twists the policy agenda, yes, but it also twists the parties themselves, who have to exist in its world. As someone who is far more of a Democrat, I think about it in terms of the Democratic Party; but Hanania is right to note it has been far more destructive to the Republican Party. The Republican Party has a much larger "anti-establishment" element that the Democratic party does, and they are concentrated in swing states. As I have said before, there are more Republicans in California than there are in Texas; but the voice of those Republicans doesn't matter. Everything gets bent around catering to that swing state slice. A Republican party staffed by its members in NYC and Los Angeles would still not be my fave party or anything, but it would be far better than the status quo.

The post reminds me of similar things around primaries; the US primaries are currently built very badly. US political parties just aren't democratic institutions, they don't really make sense to be that way and do not function that way, but we sort of pantomime it with this weird, staggered "race to drop out last" that rewards factional posturing over clear governance & electoral agendas. But as annoying as the democrats have been under it, the Republicans have suffered far worse! A complete outsider who disagreed with a third of the party's stated agenda and was deeply unpopular with the median voter exploited razor-thin majority-of-a-majorities in "elections" with maybe 25% voter turnout to seize the nomination twice. These conditions are "unfortunate" in a certain sense, it is bad that a solid ~1/10th of the US population are ride-or-die nativists for whom "immigration" is their only concern and are, to be frank, too poorly informed to understand the policy issues they care so much about. But something like that will always be true; these systems make every election a dice roll to dodge unlucky alignments, and when you hit them your coalition warps to match them and becomes sticky.

Many Republicans will mention these hazy ideas that "without the EC we will never win", and this is the least accurate idea of all. I actually remember a Richard Hanania post I blogged about a long time ago, about how so many Republican ideas are actually very popular and have gotten more popular over time. School choice, parts of immigration, taxes, law & order, etc, are all winning issues. Sans the EC the party woulds shift, as it always had, to a new equilibrium. And I bet you could do it within one term, voters have no long term memory, like at all. If in two years Nikki Haley is campaigning on Compassionate Conservatism and expanded Medicare, she would do just fine.

Ofc the issue now is that the Republican Party - while filled to the brim with hucksters, for sure - are true believers enough that they wouldn't want that. Because the EC alignments are sticky, as mentioned, it is part of why it's so toxic. Which is very sad because, despite probably being a lifelong Democrat voter, I really want a better Republican party. Because they are going to win elections! It is a democracy, of course they will, and they probably "should", I don't want a unipolar state and god knows the Democrats have their own brand of bullshit that electoral defeat has gotta discipline to keep them sane. Even if it means a Republican party that wins more elections, if they are saner it is worth it. They have some good ideas after all, if only they had a chance to breathe.

Since I don't think Republicans will consider it, I do think it is something Dems should pursue harder. But I'll admit the capacity to execute here is bleak - do your best with the State Compact I guess.

Remus invites the twink over for "dinner with him and his husband", it seems like the twink really enjoys Sirius and his company, and maybe he doesn't have a good father figure at home so Remus is happy to step up and become the new Fleamont Potter, taking in strays. Remus also loves how much the twink seems to adore Sirius, always giving him compliments and innocent touches, and he can't blame him, his husband is hot and he wants everyone to appreciate what a dilf Sirius is. Sirius deserves the attention, after all! He doesn't really get why these young men sometimes behave so oddly though, like when the twink starts undressing in their living room while Remus is setting the table for dinner, but then again, it's a really hot summer day so he can't blame the guy for not wanting to wear a lot of clothes.

it (the thieving) would start before they get together and he would get caught a little while after they get together. like hey. not that i think that you think im stupid. but um. for like two years my shirts would disappear when u came over. like. after a couple of months it stops being a coincidence. so like. explain urself maybe?? and its definitely like a New feeling for gus, who is generally regarded as a dom (albeit a sweet one) to feel bashful about this but like in timid way that doesnt usually come naturally to him LOL. and i like the idea of peppino being an anxious little freak about soooo many things including sex, but when he gets more comfy w someone hes way more of a dick and blunt asshole (affectionate) and he absolutely would bully gus about this.

Ooh okay I love giving recs.

saiki kusuo vs the homiesexual agenda by chamomileflowers is probably my fave Saiki fic of all time. It's a group chat fic that is genuinely hilarious, and while it isn't specifically a Kubokai fic, their relationship is a big part of it.

Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right (but half a dozen may) by WhirlZing: This one is a WIP, but it's really, really good. Lots of cute moments between Kaidou and Kuboyasu, and Kaidou's overall characterization is amazing.

The Road Ahead of Us by LilacNoctua is a beefy but fantastic one-shot. It's well written and follows Kaidou and Kuboyasu on a road trip turned snowed-in cabin stay. Feel good, getting together type fic.

Ten Seconds to Pretend by oculix: Short and sweet one-shot that takes place at a New Year's Eve party. I just love it.

to spend my winter with you by crowgazing: An established relationship, winter fun Kubokai one-shot. Also very cute.

You know what the OFMD fandom experience reminds me of?

My Hannibal fandom experience.

A show I really, deeply love, but reading other fans meta takes on it made me want to fucking throw things.

Hannibal fandom was the reason I joined tumblr in 2013, and I left six months later in a fit of rage when tumblr decided the show was homophobic for having a queer woman (not lesbian, unspecifically queer) sleep with a man once in order to get pregnant. Also when they pretended to kill a female character and people were ranting about the show's misogyny and I was like you idiots she's gonna be alive next week and then she was, cause that happens like 20 times in that show.

I spent the rest of the show's run on twitter, following only cast and crew accounts and like 2 RL friends and only using twitter to liveblog the show.

The way it shook out was all the inane discourse topics of Hannibal fandom were forgotten after the show was finished mostly because people didn't need to make up things to be angry about for a week between episodes and could just focus on fic and stuff. And the angry people moved on to some other show, probably.

And that's what ofmd fandom feels like for me. Do you know how tired I am reading about who is really to blame for Izzy's toe being cut off: him or the man who did it? How tired I am of arguments about morality that totally ignore that the characters under discussion are pirates who have killed like, a lot of people? The arguments with clear ax grinding agendas?

I'm dreading the discussions that are coming and to some extent already happening. I feel like we need a trigger warning for arguing about who is Evil Actually In This Situation. #toegate?

But I'm far too invested in tumblr to ragequit again. And fuck twitter. It's not better there, even if I don't follow anyone.

But yeah, morally complicated shows have shitty meta discussion. And that's too bad because that's what I ENJOY. I desperately wanted people to analyze Hannibal with because god there was so much to talk about, but then people would just pull out some shit like "that queer female character is homophobic because she's too pretty." Yes this is a take I read.

Hannibal is also the fandom where I learned about the curse of S2 in fandom, where fandom declares a new show PERFECTION based on S1 and then S2 comes along and doesn't live up the the perfection they've built up in their mind and then they get mad and tear it apart for everything they can possibly twist into a flaw.

If anything I have a little hope that that won't exactly happen with ofmd because of how toxic the fandom has already been in variously attacking most main characters for their Low Moral Fiber or whatever. Just gotta hope no one's unproblematic faves get complicated, though, or the hell to pay will be epic.

Farscape rewatch: Look at the Princess Part 2, 2x12

Farscape summed up:

This ep has one of my favorite scenes: Crichton in space, out-crazing Scorpius, and rescuing himself through sheer insanity. He goes full-on unhinged, using the fact that yes, he is willing to die rather than submit, than be tortured and experimented on.

He takes this and runs with it...and it’s probably the most unhinged we’ve seen him so far tho not as unhinged as he’s going to get and just...

The whole scene is miles more unhinged than my few caps can do it justice but also, only Farscape can get away with rotating between dark despair and pure unhinged hilarity at the speed of light - I mean here is John forcing Braca’s gun towards his right hand yelling “kill my sex life!” UMMM god this show!

PS They are literally gonna have this as ep title later.

Also, yet another instance where dark humor is his lifeline and coping/defense  mechanism. He never loses it, this is how he keeps semi-sane.

This is the first time he hears the chip, isn’t it? That scene is amazing, and heroic, and all sorts of heart-breaking. Because it saves him now but also this is a small appetizer of what it will be like for John to have the voice of his torturer control him, to remove volition. Crichton’s will is extreme, can-move-mountains kind of quality and the chip will strip it from him, just as it will force him to go against all his instincts and feelings and it’s going to be a horror.

Of course, what Scorpius, who has notably recognized John as another individual by now, even if that recognition is in shape of wanting to triumph over him, it’s still a step up from ‘lab rat’ view of the rest of the world, what Scorpius isn’t reckoning with, yet, that Crichton would rather die, literally, than surrender himself, so he better find some other lever, because threatening his life would never work. He eventually does, in s4, Aeryn, and I always found it telling that Grayza, overall nowhere near as brilliant as Scorpius, figures that lever out faster because Scorpius is hampered by his considering any genuine emotion as not worthy of consideration.

But yeah, this really does put Crichton through a ringer and I really love that his falling apart does not make him weak, it makes him human and makes any triumph all the more worthy.

I find myself both understanding Aeryn in this ep, and being very frustrated by her. She wants all these things from Crichton, but she won’t give an inch, or a hint, or a hope in return. The only reason this marriage bugs her is because she loves him because from every other vantage point, it’s a good good thing, and it’s not as if she is from species which believes you can’t marry without romantic love. And Crichton can fight even when broken, as he proves over and over, but he needs something to fight for and now he doesn’t have anything and she is not willing to provide it. The scene where he wants something - some hint that she will return his feelings and she can’t give it to him due to her own demons gets me. He is at a low point and he has nothing to cling to and she can’t give him that something because she herself is not sure she can survive giving any piece of her heart away.

I do love her ‘diplomacy’ with Katralla and Jenovia:

And the awesome putdown line to Casanova guy of ‘it’s not you, it’s me. I don’t like you.’ Heh.

But she didn’t even show up at the wedding. Oh Aeryn. So brave in battle, so good at running away emotionally. And D’Argo is being an awesome friend in this one - willing to back up John in whatever,no agendas (unlike Rygel and Aeryn, tho those two have them for different reasons) and his ‘good news/bad news’ cracks is one of my fave things ever but also really does leave John on a happy note going into a crazy situation:

and John bitchslapping Prince Clavor and the story with Zhaan and Moya and Pilot that makes me cry in the sheer defenseless peace and resignation of the ship and pilot and righteous rage of Zhaan.

In conclusion. Yeah, it’s Farscape all right.
