Today my husband told me he had someone in an interview tell him that they "get really stressed when asked to do more than one thing at a time."

Me: "Did they WANT a job?"

Him: "I wanted to say 'maybe food service isn't for you' but I didn't."

So hey guys, you don't have to tell the truth. If you tell them a good reason not to hire you, they're not gonna hire you.

Hey guys, friendly reminder that job interviews are psychological mind games and you should not be truthful and instead arm yourself with Important but Not Easily Verifiable Lies and practice delivering them until they're off the cuff.

- If someone asks for weaknesses, they're not really looking for weaknesses! They're looking for a combination of self-awareness and indications of self-improvement. Don't say "I'm bad at time management" and just leave it there. Imply that's in the past tense and talk about all the stuff you did to get good at it. Follow up each weakness with some bs answer on what you're doing to address it

- When I say like, Not Easily Verifiable Lies, I mean like, obviously don't make up shit wholesale, but like. If someone asks you your 5 year plan, they can't PROVE you're lying if you say "Oh I want to be the head of my own department, I want to be supervising my own team, etc" other corporate ladder shit. What they don't wanna hear is "Uhhhh idk" EVEN IF IT'S TRUE AND VALID. They can't disprove that you love working with customers to find cost effective solutions. What they CAN do is feel suspicious about how much you mean what you say, which is why practicing until you can make that shit sound natural is important

- (With that specific example of where you wanna be though, be careful lmao. If they think you plan on using them as a stepping stone before moving on, they might question the value of hiring you since they'd just have to start the process over again. Try to strike the right tone of "I want to succeed and grow with the tools you give me, of which there is surely an abundance")

- I can see when you are reading off another screen. It's very visible. If you're gonna do chatgpt shit to come up with answers at least do me the courtesy of keeping the window leveled wherever my face would be on the screen so it looks like you're staring at me the whole time

- Do not talk about how your last company sucked. It's a company. Of course it sucked. This company you're applying for probably sucks just as much if not much worse. Even if you're leaving your company because your boss spends every day attacking you with throwing stars, make up a different reason. Preferably something about seeking growth or some shit

- If you can't think of a reason as to why you'd be excited to join a particular company (and let's be real. Why the fuck would you literally ever), find something else to feign excitement over. "I saw that this new role has X responsibility which I never got to do, but always wanted to learn" or "I saw that you were planning on opening two new branches and I've always wanted to be involved in the growth of blahblahblah vomit". It doesn't have to be true, man. On that note

- Google the company. Look up what they do. Look in the news. You don't have to be able to recite a complete company history or anything but it helps to kow What They Do. "This one seems really obv--" YOU'D BE SURPRISED. If they don't ask you outright what you know about the company, bring up something you learned when it's time for you to ask your questions.

- Have questions to ask, btw. But these are not mere questions of curiosity! Because, again, who could possibly give a shit about their practices and whatnot!! These are instead opportunities for you to show off how diligent you are and tell more anecdotes about what a great employee you would be. "Oh, I had a follow up question about the software you use! When I was training my coworkers how to use this, I came across this issue a number of times, how did you guys deal with that? I did X but that solution probably wouldn't scale for a department your size" <- Okay stop yawning and look. See how nobody gives a shit but now you can brag about knowing it so well you taught others, identified solutions, and recognized the limitations of those solutions? Bragging opportunity.

- You know that archetype of person who only ever talks about themselves and how great they are and everything you bring up only serves as a platform for them to talk about themselves? That is kind of what a job interview is.

"This sounds miserable!" It is!!! People who do this well are worms who have gained extensive experience in stuffing their faces into the excrement of hiring managers. If you're having a good time you're doing it wrong or YOU'RE WEIRD

"But even after doing all that work, I still might not even get the job?" Yes!!!!!! It sucks!!!!!! The goal is to minimize what qualms a person may have and present yourself as a specialized tool for their problems, which is why it helps to know what those problems are. "But that sucks!" NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROCESS DOESN'T SUCK, INCLUDING SUCCESS

By the way, you can still get COVID shots. Because of RFK Jr.'s bullshit, there's uncertainty about when the next boosters will be available, who will be able to get them right away, if/when they'll be available for everyone, etc. But, the vaccines that were already made and approved are still being given out. I just double-checked with the pharmacist at my local CVS and yes, they're still giving out the shots, and if you're concerned about COVID and also concerned about potentially waiting a while for a new booster, getting boosted with the shots we already have is better than nothing! Because I work face-to-face with a lot of people, I plan on getting boosted soon before the fall hits.

Just wanted to put this out there, because there's a lot of confusion out there right now about if you can still get vaccinated (and that confusion is by design, from the Republican-approved lunatic running HHS, but anyway.)

I do think one of the things that made me saddest about Veilguard was the sheer lack of continuity. And I'm not even talking about worldstates.

Where are the Varterral? Why is Arlathan forest guarded by magical robots instead?

Where are the merchant princes of Antiva? You know, the people who really run Antiva? Not the king, not the Crows?

Why does the Lighthouse exist? Wasn't it implied in the last game that Skyhold was Solas’s fortress? The place where the sky is held back?

Why was Emmrich never a member of a Circle? Why have we forgotten that Nevarra had Circles (although presumably those who managed to become Mortalitasi had much greater freedom than mages elsewhere, they would presumably also all be Harrowed mages from the Circles in Nevarra originally)? Why have we forgotten that Cumberland was home to the College of Enchanters?

Where is the Felicisima Armada? That Isabela was part of? Why does the timeline of Taash's storyline and their mother's work with the Lords clash completely with the Kirkwall timeline?

What do you mean, the Titans are done? Then what was going on with the Titan in the Descent? The one that woke up and started moving around and got soothed by reconnecting itself with Valta? It seems like that Titan was very much alive and well, where are the others? Given that lyrium is alive and the Titan's blood, I can only assume that anyplace where you have actively growing lyrium, you have a living Titan? Why can't the dwarves reconnect with them?

A lot of these are little things...but they all add up. This, combined with the fact that quite a lot of the characters don't seem particularly integrated into the world of Thedas either...

I remain a little skeptical about how they're framing all of this. However there are bits I'm excited about like apparently we're getting the subway/gas game from the manga which is one of the best. I'm also more than a little concerned by how they're going to end this season based on some of this...

Also reminded that I probably should rewatch S2 because my memories of manga and show have blurred some.

I'm a little disappointed they're not straight up giving us the game from Retry, from what I can see, cause I really enjoyed that one.

The more I think about it the more I have to say, much as I love the show the manga is just SO GOOD that you really need to read it if you haven't if you enjoy the show.

Like y’all, please I know you mean well, but I’m going to have to ask you to look within and rectify your own systemic problems before you tell people to come on over like you’re offering pristine salvation. My tumblr Queue is about to run out, for the first time in YEARS.

I've been really busy the last couple weeks, with my birthday, friend birthday dinner, dnd, concert, and bookbinding meetup.

And also it's a combination of not being online as much and also not really being super fandom active for anything that crosses my dash RN. So when I AM on tumblr, I'm not queuing stuff that often.

Anyway, I'm still here and all is actually going really well. I'm about to finally get the payout for my accident so I'm going to be working on various projects/tasks that have been put off like home and car repairs and dental work. And I'm still in the process of making my living room over into the ultimate crafting workshop. Currently I'm waiting to get rid of my couch.

And also ow I am in pain because I went to a rock show in Houston and then a renegade meetup in Austin in 4 days and my back doesn't like that at all.

Oh and I'm also working on a pretty large bookbinding project that I have to have done by the end of the month.

Other things I've found extremely "refilling"

Experience good art. Splurge on your soul and go see a concert, an opera, a museum. Watch that anime or read that fanfiction. Art is a big purpose in living for a lot of people and it can remind you of what humans can do.

Spend time around people. Make extra time to be with friends. Host a regular pot luck dinner. Go to gatherings of people in your hobbies. Have a regular game/dnd night. Just being around people who are excited about the same things as you is super refreshing. It's especially good if you can just have fun with other people once in a while.

Improve your environment. It feels small and self-focused but sometimes you need to clean your home or reorganize things or plant some plants or whatever. Make a visible and tangible difference in your surroundings to remind yourself that you CAN change things and make them better.

Give people little gifts/make things for them/bake/whatever. Making someone else's day a little brighter for no reason can really make YOUR day as well when you see how much they appreciate it.
