it all started in bio lecture last semester. there she is, pretty girl sayu w her huge ass winter coat on. i sit down in my seat and he used to sit one seat away so there was always a seat between us (prolly bc it would’ve been awkward???? to sit directly next to someone you don’t know) anyway, every time i used to take my jacket off, i’d accidentally hit his arm or laptop w it and i’d be like omg sorry blah every . time .

and in this lecture there would be clicker questions so since he was next to me, we’d work on them together and then before exams started he asked if we could study together since we were p good at explaining to each other and bc i’m funny and had a Personality (so we ended up reviewing a bit after lecture in the lounge until it was time for our next classes) he also ended up sitting in the seat right next to me and was kinda touchy touchy w his shoulder :///

skip forward to him bringing me coffee when i was studying alone n he was in the same library. and then he left and i was like ☹️☹️ sad. but don’t worry bffs!!! bc after exams were over, he texted me one night to come outside my dorm building at like midnight and i was scared bc WHY?? but it was actually cute he asked me on a date :(??.! but this was the first time i was ever asked out by a boy and i could tell we were both equally nervous it was just v cute :(

a couple dates go by and now it’s winter break :( we go home and we live in different states (like 5 hours apart) and he told me he had plans to come to the city i live in to visit and i was like oh cool i can show you around if you want !!! but he ended up visiting for a few days and on the first day here, we went on a date (?) idk if it was considered a date but we got coffee n cake from a bakery and went to park that overlooked a bridge and city skyline and he asked me to be his gf 😟 and i was like !!! ofc !!! nothing else really happened except some good ol hand holding and some nice warm hugs in the freezing cold weather <3333

and now we’re up to date, approaching our 1 month together. i met his family over facetime bc they were celebrating lunar new year and i got to meet his lil sisters and cousins and it was all fun n cute :(((

anyway, we have a class together this semester and he looks real cute on zoom but once classes are in-person again, we’re gonna be bothering each other in bio lecture once again <33333 he also has a class w my sister and i make it awkward for them <3

did it ever feel weird at first when you started going by Gus? im starting to come out but am v v anxious about asking my loved ones to call me by a different name

it still feels weird and i'm still starting. honestly, w my fam they all know i go by gus but they don't call me gus. my little nephew does but he's also too small to talk. so. i'm actually waiting for them to just. call me gus? god idk it's so fucked it's not a good system.

so i work at this grocery store and everyone there calls me gus and they're all very nice and good to me and on the application it was just like: "preferred name?" so i put gus and everyone was fine w that my manager goes by tavo when his name is george so there's already the precedent. nobody knows i'm trans they think i just go by my middle name which, the truth? i guess?

once my sister came by and called me by my first name and then they called me by my first name for a bit until i told them not to bc i go by my middle name and then they stopped? but that wasn't a fun day.

my sister today called me gus without prompting for the first time ever today so i hope everyone just gets the message and does it without asking. i don't wanna have to ask for it which i know is dumb. i just want them to do it. but they've asked me a lot if i want them to and i've told them it's fine which isn't an answer so i can't fault them for not reading my mind.

my gf has always called me gus, and my friends all called me gus. that one took quite a bit of bravery and a little bit of weed, but i eventually told them what i needed or what i really did was let them know i was now going by gus w new people and that i would let them know when i was ready. and then i texted our gc being like "gus time <3" when i was high and they got the message.

whenever i run into a friend who doesn't know i'll usually just be like "it's gus now" and they'll be like, "okay, pronouns?" and i'll be like ":(" and they'll be like "???" and i'll be like ":////" and then i start talking about my girlfriend or this new pancake recipe i'm messing with. the first couple times it was really really hard. like. impossibly hard. i'm hanging out with a straight friend of mine soon who doesn't know. i've known her since kindergarten and i'm terrified of telling her. but i'm gonna, bc i've known her since kindergarten. i'm hanging out w a very christian friend of mine soon too and we haven't seen each other in three years bc she's been in germany and then texas for school and i'm really nervous about that too. but i will bc ride or die, yk?

listen, sometimes i'm really nervous about the name gus. but my old name wasn't working. and it's okay if it doesn't feel right bc nothing feels right and that's okay.

my cis friend the other day was like: "when are you gonna change your email, it still uses your old name and it's really confusing in my head to email you things."

and i was like: "more confusing in my head babey. when are you gonna take the harry potter stickers off your laptop case"

and like, that's cis priviledge right there. they aren't confused about their names or pronouns so if they're confused about mine it's just something they have to deal with. on the other end of that, however, is me giving them grace for not knowing the answers to questions i have barely begun to ask myself.

i think another piece of it is that our genders aren't stagnant, you know? like i can have a name in college and shed my skin and grow into a new person with a new name whenever i want. it's my name.

I lost someone close to me and they had so much in common with me and i so badly wanted to sit with them and talk to them on a street curb and figure it out with them and they put a bullet in their head so maybe i didn't know them that well how did they even get a gun.

i wish i could just say my name is gus and not worry about so many things but i am filled with anxiety it rattles around in my fingertips and types out this missive to you and the answer you're looking for is yes. i am nervous. i feel weird.

Soos looked down at his can of Pitt soda kinda gloomy like. He should be really happy right now, and generally he was, but he was also… he couldn’t pinpoint it.

Abuelita was happy in the armchair in front of the TV. She liked the “dusty, dirty” shack that needed a “lady’s touch”, so during the day she kept busy vacuuming everything and tidying up the house, and at night she enjoyed the additional channels Mr. Pines was willing to pay for so he wasn’t stuck with Gravity Falls public-access TV. She was enjoying her afternoon cup of coffee in front of the TV right now, in fact, and Soos should probably go join her, but he was trying to finish an idea for tomorrow’s tours in the gift shop, but his inspiration was gone and the rainy day didn’t help his mood improve.

Soos drained the rest of his can of soda in one gulp and adjusted his tie. He smiled down at his suit-covered body and could feel himself straighten up with pride. Still, he was… lonely. Yeah, that was it. Mr. Pines and Dr. Pines left two days ago, and from what Soos could tell they were both super happy, and Dipper and Mabel were back home in California now. Wendy still hung around some, but school had just started back and classes were kinda busy right now, so it would be a few weeks until things cooled down and even then she wouldn’t be working as much as she did over the summer (which, let’s be honest, it’s not like she worked much to begin with).

While Soos was beyond happy to be running the Mystery Shack, to have his lifelong dream come true, the old cabin was now way too quiet and way too empty. Maybe once tourists came back and the money started to roll in and business kept him busy, he’d be okay. Still, as of today, Soos was just a little sad and lonely, and that was okay.

The gift shop was open, so Soos shouldn’t have been surprised when the door opened with a chime. He looked up and was way more surprised to find a pretty girl with light-brown hair tied back with a scrunchie and a purple rain-jacket standing in his shop. “Hi, Soos!”

“Melody!” Soos gasped and ran to her to hug her. She hugged him back around his neck and he could feel all his sadness just melt away like cheese on a greasy pizza. He let her go to stare at her and make sure she was really here. “What are you doing here?! How are you here?! Someone pinch me, dude, cuz I gotta be dreaming!”

Melody laughed and shook her head. “Nope! I told you I was only in Portland for a few weeks. A few weeks is over.”

“So you’re staying?!” Soos dared to hope.

Melody nodded. “Yup! I’m staying!”

“This is great!” Soos punched the air and gestured for the “employees only” door. “C’mon in, dude. Meet my grandma and have a soda.”

“Sure, I’d love to.” Melody said as she shed her rain-jacket and followed Soos through the house.

“Abuelita, I got someone I’d like you to meet.” Soos called as they went to the living room. “This is Melody.”

“Si, si, you are even more beautiful up close.” The old lady complimented.

“Uh, thanks.” Melody said and shook her hand.

“Sit, niña, and tell me about yourself.”

Soos pulled out a chair for Melody from the card table and sat on the dino-skull end table to listen to Melody talk about herself and what she was doing in Portland.

“So… uh, hey.” Soos said as he sat on a park bench next to Melody a few days after she came back to Gravity Falls. “You know I really like Wendy and I’m never gonna fire here, but… but she’s really busy with school and friends and… I thought it’d be a good idea to hire another cashier.”

“I think that’s a great idea.” Melody supported, thinking he just needed a little encouragement that he was making a good business decision.

“Yeah, but… but I don’t just want anyone, you know?” Soos was starting to sweat a little more than normal. “Someone I can trust and think is pretty cool. Someone really pretty and smart and caring and… I dunno, you wouldn’t be interested, would you?”

Melody stared at the cute guy with an anime t-shirt in front of him and a ball cap, blushing adorably with his little awkwardly-growing whiskers. “What? You mean, work at the Mystery Shack? With you?”

“‘Course, I thought you wouldn’t want to, I get it if it’d be awkward for you, and I know you like extreme lunch meats, so…”

“Are you kidding, I’d love to work at the Mystery Shack with you!” Melody said and took his hand with excitement, her eyes twinkling beautifully and her cheeks round and rosy with joy. “It’d be so much fun and I love the Shack! I’d get to where those cute t-shirts and help kids find stuff they like and give out good deals…”

“Not too good deals, though.” Soos said with a smile and pointed out, “Remember, we put the fun in no refunds.”

“I know, but what if we raise the prices a bit.” Melody offered. “We could do it steadily and carefully so no one would notice, but eventually the price would be so high that we could put crazy good deals on them and still make a profit, making the customers think they’re getting a steal.”

Soos stared at her like she was an awesome warrior princess. “You are the smartest girl I know.”

Melody just smiled with pride and happily shook Soos’s extended hand to accept the new job.

“DIPPER! Hurry up!”

“Coming!” Dipper ran into their room, plopped down on his beanbag, and Mabel clicked on Soos’ icon on the laptop to start the video-call. It only rang once or twice before the pair of twins were faced with their favorite handyman-turned-business-owner and his newest employee. “SOOS!”

“What’s up, hambones?!” Soos called and waved. 

“Hey, guys, how’s it going?” Melody asked as she wiggled her fingers.

“Great!” Mabel said. “Guess who made it into the Hall of Fame at the art show?”

“That’s amazing, Mabel!” Soos cheered. “We’re both super proud of you.”

“Totally!” Melody agreed.

“Thanks, guys.”

“So, what’s new with you two?” Dipper asked.

The two exchanged looks and then Soos burst with happy news. “We’re officially boyfriend and girlfriend, dudes!”

“Hey, that’s great!” Dipper congratulated.

“ECK!” Mabel squealed. “All of my dreams are coming true! I’m so happy for you guys!”

“Thanks.” Melody giggled. “Soos was so sweet. Had this beautiful picnic set up and asked me to be his girlfriend, honestly I would've said yes a long time ago.”

“Aw, couple goals!” Mabel cooed.

Stan and Ford arrived at the Mystery Shack a week before Dipper and Mabel were supposed to come back for the summer. Right off the bat, Melody happy shook both of their hands as Soos introduced her to the famous Mr. Pines and Dr. Pines. They were surprised to find her, not in an employee’s uniform, but a suit and she borrowed the fez and an eight-ball cane. She kissed Soos’ cheek before hurrying off to run a tour.

“Soos, what’s all that about?” Stan asked, pointing at Melody’s get-up.

“Oh, right. Well, I haven’t found a handyman quite right for the job, so sometimes I gotta make repairs instead of giving tours, so on those days Wendy runs the register and Melody runs the tours as the miraculous Mrs. Mystery! She’s a natural!”

“And over to your left you’ll see our amazing Box of Mystery. If you put your credit cards in, they mysteriously disappear.” Melody said and the gullible tourists put their credit cards in the little mail slot.

Stan patted Soos’ shoulder. “Yup. She’s a keeper.”

Melody proved to not only be as sweet as sugar and as sharp as a knife, but also as tough as nails when in a pinch. Of course, anyone who saw her beat up creepy animatronic robots at a pizza joint with a chair knew this, but it became even more apparent when she beat eyebats out of the shack with a broom, carried five huge crates full of merchandise by herself, and could hang Dipper from one arm and Mabel from the other arm.

The kids loved her as much as they loved Soos, and though she had her own apartment, she was always over at the Shack. Jokingly, towards the end of that summer, Stan laughed, “Honestly, you’re here so much, you should just move in.”

Soos turned bright red. He had planned on offering Melody to move in with him when everyone left after summer, but when Melody’s cheeks turned bright red and she giggled nervously, he couldn’t help but stutter, “I-I-If y-y-you w-want to, dude, y-y-you c-can.”

Melody smiled and kissed his cheek to try to ease any worry he might have. “I’d really like that.”

No amount of eye-rolling could hide the smile on Stan’s face, which Ford quickly pointed out and teased his twin for.

If it was somehow possible, Stan’s hair became a paler gray over the years, but he wasn’t that old yet! Ford’s hair was a little paler, too, but he still had that lighter stripe. Mabel, now a sixteen-year-old, stood in a beautiful maid-of-honor’s dress. Stan tugged at his suit as he watched Soos and Melody dance, their first dance as a married couple, on the dancefloor just outside the Mystery Shack. 

It had been a beautiful summer wedding in the early afternoon. The sun was setting and soon the dangling lanterns and buzzing fireflies would make excellent sources of light. The cake was half-eaten and the party was still going strong, but this one quiet moment was surreal for everyone. Stan just stood there and happily watched his best employee holding someone he loved and swaying to the soft music.

“Aw, Grunkle Stan,” Mabel cooed quietly. “You’re crying.”

Stan blinked and finally noticed that his eyes were a little wet. He scrubbed at his eyes and hissed, “No I’m not.”

“Stanley, you always were a sap for romance.” Ford joined in the picking of his younger brother.

“I said I ain’t crying!” Stan said firmly, but his eyes were soon wet again and all he could do was grumble as he watched the newlyweds dance.

So! After typing up the last blog post, it was like… 6 am, or some shit like that. And so I finally went to sleep, very very very tired.

Silly and I had planned for me to have the buffalo chicken dip ready before she got home form work, but I… fucked that up, and slept until like 630 pm. She didn’t seem to be upset by it, but I kind of was so. Anyway!

I started on the dip, and she came home, I welcomed her (I love welcoming her home. It makes me look forward to being here long-term). Dip didn’t get started in the crockpot until like 730, 8 (I had to heat freezer chicken so it was cuttable and not frozen, I used the stove) (normally I use regular raw chicken, but I got nervous while shopping with silly’s mom so I like. Just got freezer chicken.) It turned out pretty well actually! The freezer chicken tasted very good on its own, and I’m just now realizing that after a couple days in the fridge the chicken starts breaking down in the dip anyway (I didn’t realize this until silly pointed it out, cuz I’m a [not stupid, but I don’t pay very much attention to things around me])

On that note, me and silly have started, like. Trying to be mean to ourselves less. It started cuz she. Is very mean to herself, but I then realized I still am too, so we’re! trying to do that less. It’s neat I guess. I like it. Kindness is good.

Don’t remember what was eaten for dinner that night. Something? Went upstairs to watch something while the dip cooked.

The dip was good! Silly says it was good, and that makes me very very happy. I added like. A good amount of buffalo sauce after it was done cooking, cuz it still needed some more kick. Ya know? Some  kick? (I’m typing this on my laptop so I’m like. Kind of zoning out while I’m typing it. Dw about it)

Around then I realized that silly might have problems eating that as a meal bc chips are carbs are sugar, so… bleh. Still, *I’ll* eat it as meals, nyeh. I think I’ll ocntinue using raw chicken for the dip at home, it’s nice to have the leftovers from it to put into spaghetti. Chicken spaghetti.

That night I resolved to just not sleep and stay up and eat breakfast with silly before she went to work, because that seemed very fun and nice ya know? Watched a lot of adventure time, I think I’m up to like. Season 5 now (the long one)

But… around an hour before she was scheduled to wake p I was like “oh well I mean it’ll be fine if I just… sleep for an hour and wake up with her…”

Long story short I slept until about 530 pm, and was startled to wake to an empty bed. Apparently I sleepily said I loved her before she left, though, so I guess that’s not a total loss.

So! Later that night, silly comes home all excited, and like. “Hey we should buy an xbox one”

And you know I am nothing if not someone who is willing to make very expensive decisions for like no reason. So long story short we go to gamestop, and make a delightful purchase of Halo: master chief collection, two controllers, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and NO t-shirts that say gamer girl >>>:(

Ate a place in town that is apparently The Local Wing Place. I got. Mild wings, which honestly were barely even hot. I guess I shoulda heeded the menu bit that said the mild was mostly butter. A fool am I. The fried pickles were spears not slices so they were like! Still good, EXTREMELY hot but still good.

Came home, set up the xbox. Halo requires downloading of all the games (because of course). It’s like. 70 GB, but we reduce this by setting Halo 3 to higher priority and disabling Halo 4.

Playing 3 with silly was very fun. She’s way way better at it than me, mostly bc she is smart and stays back whereas I, dumbo raised on normal difficulty that I am, rush in and die quickly in heroic.

She spent like. An hour and a half or something updating her old xbox account. Her new xbox avatar looks way better, and is extremely cool (like her). She says it feels really nice updating all of that to her new self. I can understand the feeling: ridding the wolrd of another footprint of a you that’s a lie is. Very nice, I think.

So we played more halo! No highlights, I think, but it was really nice. And fun. I’m a girl and I’m gay now and I love jesus, but I still love halo C:

I ALSO brought fable 2 along, and played it while silly slept. Gotdamn I fucking love fable 2. Silly says I’m cute when I’m really excited about something. I was REALLY excited about fable 2. I think this is the first time I’ve ever done a run that’s (hopefully) gonna be mostly strength, and possibly I’m gonna use a hammer, where before I always ALWAYS used a katana. But. I just unlocked third level shock (oo) and a very pretty steel cleaver (ooo), so… ….. hopin’ I’ll be a good bastard.

Next day. Went with silly to work, as it was Friday and Time For The Magic Commander (Commeownder, in the local parlance). I only played commander a little bit, though, before silly called me over “hey do you wanna join the draft so that there are 5 rounds and everyone suffers” (my words not hers), and of course yes, that sounds so fun.

So! What draft is is each table (of I think eight people?) opens a pack of cards for each person there. You pick out the card you want from that pack, and pass it on to the next person. Then pick a card from the new pack, then the next, then so on and on. It was very fun, and I fell kinda quickly into running a Golgari (green and black) deck, which went well for me I think? (Also I just. Like golgari. They’re cool, and not annoying like blue). I had a lot of undergrowth effects, which depended on how many creatures I had in my graveyard. MEANING, that I had a lot of creatures in my deck, and enough land to keep them flowing. So, at one point, I had a, I think, 13/13 or 16/16 (idr) Rhizome lurker (gains +1/1 for each creature in graveyard), so that was… cool? Neat?

I won my first match of the draft, largely due to my opponent offering me a lot of tips cuz I was new (the boyfriend (boyfriend, right? They’re not married?) of the person silly had an encounter with a couple months ago. I think that was before we were dating. But that guy was my first opponent, and it went well?) largely due to his help, I won te first game of the match, then the second game timed out.

Second match was against F, who everyone silly knows apparently has a crush on (I also have a crush on them (they/them)), they were very very sweet and I enjoyed my game with them a lot even though they kicked the love of god out of my ass. But they also like. Told jokes during it, so whatevs. (turns out a deck of flyers will kick a goglari deck with no reach/flying in the ass.) they also helped me edit my deck, so that was very very kind of them, and I very much appreciate it.

Uh… other highlights… uh, I played silly’s ex (they dated for like. I think a month? But still. He’s not nearly as big as silly described him), and apparently hurt his feelings because I am a. very very mean and abrasive person if you take the things I say seriously. I. feel bad about that. And I spent the rest of the night noting to please not take the things I said seriously. I ended the night with 1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses, but that’s? very very much better than I expected, tbh. I guess using a deck I actually had a hand in the creation of helps a lottttt. So that’s cool! Silly said my deck was good, but that as after F edited it, so idk if it counts?

Silly says she’s glad I actually enjoy magic and I’m not just humoring her. I do very much enjoy it! I don’t think I want to get to the level she is at (due to cost, if nothing else), it at the very least will be added to my long list of “things I have or had an interest in, that I have a dabbling or casual knowledge of that is beyond the average person by a degree ranging from slight to significant, but still pales in comparison to the knowledge of an actual practitioner”.  … this list is much much longer than the list of things I actually know things about. ;;

Spent like 30 minutes after the draft talking with silly and two regulars. I was annoying and unkind, and felt very unhappy with myself following. I also had to actually leave the store after it closed, since that’s like. The Rules. Silence and isolation (waiting in the car) are not conducive to recovery from self hatred, so that festered a little bit. I was fine eventually, though. Uh… yeah! Had to make a mark in my calendar.

Tried to stay up and play fable, but ended up falling asleep like 10 minutes after silly (I am a fucking scourge and I fail regularly to sleep at the same time as her. I am a Night Bitch)

Oh, also I was unmedicated for the entirety of the draft night, so that’de, like… that’s why I was so fucking annoying all day. That just kinda happens when I’m off it long enough, I guess.

I don’t remember more from that night, so let’s move on.

Got up w silly the next day, ate cereal, went up to the store. Woo!

Sat down with silly’s ex, some other dude. Started reading the book gf gave me about Learning Magic Good And Shit, it was actually real neat and cool! Apparently that’s what he wanted for Christmas, so it was. Slightly awkward!

I read that for a while, then joined in on a magic game. Players: one of the regulars talked to last night before closing, some girl I’d never seen called E (who was very sweet, I now love her), and some dude I don’t remember at all.

We had two games, I only remember that in the second one I ran Estrid The Masked as commander, and that was a. Long Fucking Game. Partially because I had like 11 enchantments on the board at one point, and kept using Estrid and Oath Of Terezi (planeswalkers do TWO things on a turn). Uh…

Highlights:

I had “every time someone casts a spell, make them pay an extra mana or else you can draw another card”, which I then doubled with Estrid’s invocation (at least until I had too many cards to know what to do with, so I put some enchantments in the graveyard before I ulted with estrid) I ulted Estrid like 2-3 times, lmao At one point between ults, I had “all enchantments are creatures” on the field, and then E played “destroy all creatures that aren’t pirates”, so I. lost. Uh. All my motherfucking creatures, except Estrid (not a creature), and a God (had a mask). And ALL my fucking enchantments. WARB- anyway next turn I ulted estrid again and got them all back. Lmfao. at the end of the game it cost about 14 mana / creature to attack me, it was AMAZING, the guy who made fucktons of tokens couldn’t TOUCH me so anyway. I used sacred mesa, plus like 48 mana (untapping all my enchanted lands is GREAT) to create 24 pegasi, which then became 24 4/4 flying angels (Divine Visitation), which was GREAT holy DAMN

I lost in the end, got milled by regular dude for like. 55 cards in one turn.

I coulda prevented this by exiling the creatures he used to mill me, but I just… didn’t. Ever. :C because I’m a foollllllll I also could’ve prevented this by swinging angels at him at the same time I killed the other player (E left before then, I guess she had work or something), but I just. Didn’t do that, because I was scared something would happen to them? It was an eminently foolish thing to not do, especially since I could make So Fucking Many angels. Always. Jesus I could make so many angels.

Meanwhile, silly was moving a shitton of boxes for the Big Fuckhuge Sale the next day. I felt bad that I couldn’t help, but I couldn’t bc if I got injured I could sue. Fair, I guess, but doesn’t make it easier to just sit on the sidelines. At least I brought ibuprofen from home.

Said quick goodbye to regulars who were chill, and who I played my first couple of games with.

Silly got told to just. Go home when her shift ended yesterday, which was upsetting bc she’d been looking forward to playing magic like. The whole day. Not quite the same, but we did play a few games when we got home. So that was nice C:

I ate dip for dinner, silly ate chicken buffalo. She is so. SO bad at eating all the meat on the bones. She says it’s cuz gristle is gross, but like .it’s. it’s MEAT. Eat the meat. So I ate all the gristle off the end of her wings while she said I was disgusting.

We finished halo 3 last night. I felt like. Stupid and bad because I was bein a failure at it, but god that was like. Soooo stupid. Lmfao. I shouldn’t have done that!

I finally managed to log in to my Microsoft account. Apparently my fucking username was staffgripper36, and I have no goddamned clue why that is my username for that.

But I made an avatar and she’s like. Cool af and she has a sundress so I guess I can’t really complain too much, can I?

We also started ODST! It is Neat, and I really like it thus far. I can’t remember ever seeing that intro cutscene in my life, but I guess that’s cuz I was an impatient 12 year old at the time, lmfao.

Then I played fable 2 til 7 am while silly slept. I. Don’t know why I fucking did that. I did get married, though. To marion the bookshop owner. We live in the corner house of the bowerstone market, just like the one playthrough of fable wherein I remember the name of my wife to this day (Hannah the Traveller) That house is my Home, you got me?

Finally onto today! 2520 words in. If words were feet, this journal entry would be a half-mile.

Alright… it has now been more than a full week since I started this journal entry. I’m back in Texas, and I… feel bad for that. I fear how much has been lost.

So! Next morning, I get up with silly and we go to The Work Place. The Big Fucking Sale is going on. I still wished I could help more, but unfortunately that is… not a possibility…

Wandered around the store for a while. Picked up: 4000 AD, a very old-looking game that seems neat. Mostly bought it cuz it looked old and aged as shit founders of gloomhaven, a game I got cuz it reminded me of marielda Anime Chess, that’s not the real name but silly said she’d been thinking about buying it for like. A While, so I bought it because I hate her an AD&D character sheets book, that still had some old character sheets in it (fuckin score) some VERY old vampire the masquerade stuff, including what I’m guessing is probably the first book that offered playing a hunter rather than a vampire? Also the sourcebook as of like 1992. More is the same than is different, though I guess that’s also cuz I barely know modern world of darkness

Sat around and read the hunter book for like. Basically a couple hours or something? Idk. Talked a little bit with some of the regulars, T and her boyfriend.

Eventually, left and went to the ice cream store across the street, ate Goat Cheese Ice Cream Oh Boy, and started writing this journal.

I wrote school’s motto on the chalkboard there, and later heard someone say “I… don’t know what that means. Should I know what that means?

Was surprised by the entrance of Silly. Goodness me I love her so much.

We then went home and like. Chilled.

She made alfredo/lentil pasta (so she doesn’t die from carbs) and fish. I, meanwhile, attempted to make raspberry cheesecake.

I got kinda stressed by the cheesecake process, cuz I was trying to multitask but still didn’t feel like I was going fast enough. I started doing that dumb anxiety over-done stuff thing that I do sometimes.

I then proceeded to open a very-fizzed dr pepper and just kinda. Break down a lil bit. I managed to keep it together until I had the cheesecake done, at least, I’m kinda proud of myself for that!

But yeah. Then I started crying or something, I don’t fully remember. I remember I accidentally made silly cry because I am an idiot, and also I was feeling bad because I felt helpless and pathetic, and typical consolation doesn’t really help with that. I’m sorry for that, darlin.

Anyway. She’s a really good fucking cook, like she’s better than my mom and dad both. Like not to be the kinda person who overpraises ther significant, but :eyes: !!! who knew that adding spices and not cooking from a box improved things??? @mom

I don’t really remember the rest of the night, nothing interesting I suppose. We probably played halo odst or something, and cuddled.

The cheesecake was… not to my taste, personally. Silly claims to kinda like it, but personally it fell into the “this isn’t really that good at all, why do I keep wantng to eat it”, probably my favorite part was the pre-baked crust.

Yeah! Stuf like that.

We got up the next morning. Busy day!!! The next 3 days, silly had em off and we were gonna make this day fuckin WORK for us

There was a cat! And also I bought some magic card boosters. No news. Why the fuck was there a shitton of pathfinder corebooks on the Shelf O’ Unloved Games. Rude.

Had a fun conversation at a pet store

The game store near where silly worked had some things. She got halo 5, meaning she had The Complete Collection, not that it matters cuz everything after reach sucks. But anyway. She also got an application for there! So that’s really good, yay! Woo!

The nearby hobby shop was very neat, it had a shitton of gundam stuff, and like. Model trains! Wow! Apparently model rockets don’t fuckin come with the engine or anything.g that seems a little silly to me. Also they had some 3-d printing stations, but they’re apparently out for now. Idk whassup there.

Got some jingle bells at the nearby craft store, or whatever. Ran into a coworker of silly’s. she revealed that she almost named herself Katherine, and would’ve shortened it to Cat, meaning we fucking skated THIS close to me just absolutely refusing to talk to her in that alternate timeline.

I made some very VERY nice discoveries. Oh HO, how delightful… some nice mugs, that I decided not to get on account of I was already transporting 3 of the things back home. But uhhh…. I got some cute skirts I think, basically just some bottoms, from the first store. Learned that my feet are not made for thrift store women’s heels. Sob.

Thrift shop two I found some very VERY nice things, including BASEBALL MOM SHIRT, and also a shirt for a basketball team for the immaculate conception high school, or some shit. I’m so excited to reveal that one. Also some things that were actually women’s tops, that might actually fit me or some shit (spoiler, they will not once I retry them on) (lol)

I uh… THINK after that we went home? And made tacos!!!!!! Holy shit silly makes such good fucking tacos oh my god. Like. I used to hate taco night at home, cuz that meant like. Dry hamburger meat with Taco Seasoning from HEB, in a hard taco shell.

But. I have discovered the truth of mixing a bit of salsa, corn, and beans into the meat, and getting it all moist, and also applying sour cream to the tacos. God they were so good holy fuck. Holy fuck. What a goddess.

We then proceeded to, I think, finish halo odst. What absolute heroines we are. I think we also watched all of otgw. I gushed about, like. The painfully o bvious metaphors and stuff that I knew about, and silly thought I was dumb I’m sure. But she did cry at the end, bc it’s very good and also because I was crying.

Stayed up later than silly did. Cried a little bit before I went to sleep because I. love her so much. Dear fuck I love her.

Ate breakfast the next morning. Returned from showering to find that silly was shooting me with a nerf gun. The fucker. We had a nerf gun fight and I’m PRETTY sure I got the better of her, because I’m very good and also extremely cool. :3 side note but she’s so amazing and I love her so much. NOT tearing up a little bit about how I am so extremely blessed to have met her. Jesus.

But uh. After that it was time to start packing, kind of. There was a not-small amount of crying. And divvying up of stuff, since I like. Did NOT have space for all of my things. Three piles: taking with me, hopefully to have mailed back to me (seriously, I need some of that stuff please. :C ), and Giving to silly because I love her and I love giving her things.

In that last group was: my first fountain pen (idk if that one or the one leye gave me was the first one I owned. But hey. Meh.) (I’m just gonna pronounce that as Ley-yey for the rest of my life. For anyone who’s not me, though, it’s like lye). She used it to write poetry on the piece of paper I used to demonstrate how to use it, and to get the ink going, and stuff. She then folded it up to look like a heart, because she’s the biggest dork on earth and also my favorite person ever to live. She did this while she was, in her words, “picking stuff out of the downstairs laundry baskets”, which is why I walked in on her doig this. The second time a ploy like this was foiled by my walking downstairs. What a loser. And yes I cried a LOT on reading that poetry, because, just… jesus. How could I not. my tentacle skirt. Please take care of it, it’s important! Hopefully I have found suitable replacements for it… probably some other stuff? I don’t fully remember… sorry….

She gave me the shirt for the now-defunct electric company owned by the Shithead dad of her childhood friend. Holy FUCK the perfect gift for me. Wow. I love artifacts!!! (we are both magpies lmao)

Never did find that pair of compression shorts she gave me last time I was down. I hope those turn up sometime, they were super handy.

Uh… so yeah. We packed up. Got most of my stuff sorted out, and figured out an outfit for the next day. I think here was where we watched otgw, actually. But yeah! Uh…

I don’t really remember much more, except hugging each other and crying. And remembering that soon I would be apart from her and feeling a deep, yawning sense of loss. And a longing to graduate so I can join her up north.

I tried to go to sleep with her, but I failed. I ended up closing my eyes for a little while, then stealing the 8.5x11 boarding pass I printed and gave to her (we each got one of the boarding passes, and one of the like. Ticket printed things? Of when I went up there. Even), and wrote her a letter on it with my/her fountain pen. I don’t remember much of what it said, beyond that I loved her in a way I never thought possible.

Went to the airport. Cried a little bit on the way there. Focused more on keeping intact for both of our sakes, since we were going on the Frightening route to the airport. I started to break down as I started getting close, thugh. Cried into her arms a little more as I got out of the car and left her behind for another few months. God,  Ihate it so much.

Writing these journals this far after the fact is bad both because I don’t remember as much, and also because I start missing her all over again. :C:C:C:C:C

But uh… yeah,  Ithink that’s it. Became emotionally dead as I went through the airport. Had to rush to make my first flight. Cuz… wanted to spend as much time as possible with my beautiful girlfriend before we had to go to the accursed birds’ nest. The TSA saw me as a girl. That was cool, but then they patted me down real fuckin thoroughly. Ate a biscuit after getting through. Basically slept through the rest of the thing.

Only started crying again once I got home.

Alright. We’re done here I think. I know I forgot a lot and that *hurts* me, but it’ll be alright. Honk.

These journals will likely get less detailed as time goes on. But as their number is yet small I think it’s okay.

Three Minutes to Eternity: My ESC 250 (#120-111)

#120: Iveta Mukuchyan -- Lovewave (Armenia 2016)

“Without even a single warning I’m not who I was before A chain reaction with no returning Now watch me craving for more”

Lovewave is definitely experimental in more ways than one—not only in how the song builds up with the jet take off, but also with the mix of Armenian elements and artpop. A contemplation on the ecstasy of love and how much it opens up a person, the lyrics bring out the sensation too, in an unorthodox structure including a spoken word beginning and a lack of a proper chorus.

And then we have that staging—if we're judging these only on presentation, this is one of the, if not the, best ones ever. A mix of fire, camera angles (which actually makes it more enjoyable for the audience at home, as it adds to the sensation which the live audience wouldn't otherwise get) and holograms bring up the intensity with Iveta at the center—she owns the stage as an absolute showstopper.

#119: Gina G -- Ooh, Aah, Just a Little Bit (United Kingdom 1996)

“Like a child, but it's more than a phase Could act the angel, but it wouldn't be true”

When the eighth-place song does better commercially than the winner of its year, then things have gotten really wrong in Eurovision. By the 1996 contest, most of the songs were low-energy, with some New Age and/or Celtic influences in between. While it doesn't mean it was bad, it did mean it didn't configure well with the pop charts.

And Ooh, Aah, Just a Little Bit was that song; it stormed through the charts and got nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. While it's an ordinary dance track, it still induces a jolt of energy and it's just so bubbly and fun. The harp and strings, while very slight, add some nice touches to the song too. Sure, Gina misses a few notes here and there, but I was too busy dancing to notice it, as well as staring at that pretty dress (which was supposed to be for Cher, but it was scrapped!)

However, those vocals also cost the UK a bit, as they placed 3rd in the pre-qualifying round, but dropped to eighth on the night. Considering the state of Eurovision during the time, this might be the song that triggered the televote.

#118: Şebnem Paker - Beşinci Mevsim (Turkey 1996)

"Kapandı son kapım, vuruldum bilmeden, Sakın o sen misin giden, Soyundu dallarım, delindi gökyüzü, Kaçıncı sonbahar bugün,”

“My last door has closed, I have been hit without knowing, Are you leaving me My branches are naked, my sky is darker Which autumn is today?”

The opening lines, along with the violin solo, set the stage for this gloomy, melancholic song from Sebnem Paker (the first of two, actually!) I like the autumnal feeling of this, as if one could walk across a boulevard on an overcast day, thinking about what has gone wrong in a relationship. The accordion especially helps here; I keep thinking of a street scene in Paris here. I also like humming this on my spare time; it could work out as an "on hold" tone for the telephone. It's actually quite relaxing.

An interesting thing is despite getting a better result ten years earlier, Beşinci Mevsim scored more points for Turkey in the 100% jury era, with 59 points. And Sebnem would go on to improve on that the following year. While I do look highly on that one like others (and it will eventually come soon) I’d like to think of her first entry as an underrated masterpiece.

#117: Danijela Martinovic -- Neka mi ne Svane (Croatia 1998)

“Neka mi ne svane Nek’ me nema, nek’ me ne bude Neka me bez tebe ne probude”

“May the dawn never rise May I disappear, may I cease to exist May I not wake up without you”

One eccentricity about 1998 is that it begins and ends on a similar note--they can't stop the dawn! Ne zori, zoro (#163) does so through a dim, melancholic note by going through the struggles of a man on the edge, whereas Neka mi ne svane does so through a dainty, yet no less sad, melody about loss.

The way Daniejla sings this line is a highlight with the song, as she vocalizes each syllable with her sweet voice. She mourns for a lost love, desiring for him to come back and refusing to live on. I also love the orchestration; it adds to the magical feel and creates a sense of grandeur. And with a single swipe of hand, one of the most effective gimmicks in Eurovision history as she removes her dark cloak to reveal a white gown.

Apparently, to some commenters, this is the best Balkan Ballad ever. While I find it really beautiful, considering none of Zejlko Joksimovic's compositions are on this list yet, it's doesn't hold much of a candle for what is too come.

Final Impressions on Croatia: A comment on all their entries describes Croatia at Eurovision as the "reverse of character development"; in the 1990s, they were quite strong, with a number of entries that could've won in their year. They had a good streak in the 2000s, though their last top-ten was in 2001, before basically torpedoing in the 2010s. It's quite sad to see a potential powerhouse withering like that.

But weren't those really good entries, really good? And if it weren't for the Slovak jury giving those points in Kvalificacija za Millstreet...

#116: Pierre Rapsat -- Judy et cie (Belgium 1976)

Have you ever been one of those kids who was rejected from everything in school and had no friends? Reading the lyrics to “Judy et cie” reminds me of that, as everyone else was so cool with their friends and status, and Judy just wants to feel accepted . With my spin, it feels like it get dark at the end, because Judy becomes so desperate to get attention, she turns to either selling herself to others or doing drugs.

Combined with Pierre’s composition, it just works so well. Not unlike with Somewhere in Europe (#126), it feels like a Billy Joel song with its instrumentation and depth. Relistening to the orchestration, it really works in conveying the overall feeling. We feel that loneliness and hope for better things for Judy, though we know that won’t ever come to light for her.

Final Impressions on 1976: 1976 feels like a filler year, and at the same time, it's quite good song-wise. The production feels a bit bland; we don't have anything interesting, though the changing stage was definitely a neat innovation. The songs are solid; the top two are among the highest-scoring songs by percentage, but there's a mix of boppy and dark. More of the sullen songs makes my top 250.

#115: Anna Maria Jopek -- Ale Jestem (Poland 1997)

Around 100 entries ago, I told you about Sama, one of Poland's most eccentric entries. And now we have another Polish entry here, though this is the end of their journey.

Watching Ale Jestem's live performance, one first is immersed into the orchestration, with the variant colors springs to life on the Point Theatre stage. The following three minutes remains folkloric but a bit delicate, the pre-chorus (shown in the lyrics) build up to quite the crescendos as it feels like dancing through a meadow of flowers. Anna Maria keeps up with the sweet vocals, and she has a bit of a mischievous gaze towards the audience!

Both poetic and strong, Ale Jestem relishes in one’s existence, while imploring us we have to make the most of what we’ve got. The instrumentation makes this the ultimate spring song; the strings add a wall of sound that pulls you in (if it's a bit "messy", it's because it's in 12/8 time, though it gets easy to adjust!). It inspires joy and life, and it’s just all kinds of beautiful.

#114: Evridiki -- Teriazoume (Cyprus 1992)

“I give you my lips, and into my existence With every cell of mine I wrap you”

Terry Wogan famously warned the audience that Evridiki's performance will "smolder your television set". While it may not have made your TV (or these days, laptop or phone) melt until it functions with a melted screen, Teriazoume is so sensual!

It definitely lit a spark in the dull 1992 field, which didn’t exactly translate to points, though it has won my heart. From the way Evridiki moves to the way the microphone stand shakes, you’re on a wire as she tries to seduce you. (I've actually spent quite a bit of time trying to learn the handography in the bridge) The strings also add to that feeling with their sudden starts and stops--at one point, the audience clapped before the song was over!

George Theopanous (the songwriter as well as the conductor) does a good job in using imagery in the lyrics to accompany the melody, and the result is akin to a strip tease with beautiful silk clothes and lacy underwear. And in my opinion, this has more sex appeal in two seconds than Fuego has in three minutes. You can't change my mind.

#113: Monica Aspelund -- Lapponia (Finland 1977)

Apparently, Monica disowned the Finnish lyrics of Lapponia because they mentioned witches, which is a pity because it tells a fantastic story! (And in other linguistic fun, the song was meant to be performed in Swedish, but the language rule prevented Monica from doing so. It would take another thirteen years for a Finnish entry to be performed in Swedish. In addition, there was a Dutch version only used for a commercial)

The instrumental is bright and enjoyable despite the cold land of Lapponia, and Monica’s vocals sings clearly and with joy. The clapping is enough to get one up and going, and it nullifies the repetitiveness of the "nananas". And of course, her high note at the bridge absolutely nailed it!

Along with a solid result, Lapponia got Finland’s first top score (and only one until 2006--see #140 for that), but it certainly deserved more. (Why did It's Nice to Be in Love Again have to complete the top three?)

#112: Anna Vissi -- Everything (Greece 2006)

“I can hear my heart breaking as I open the door I can feel the tears on my face burn like fire...”

I've honestly wavered between this and another Greek personal runner-up for this one. Both of them are fantastic, but neither would've challenged my winners of their respective years. After watching both of their performances, I turned to my gut, and this lost out.

The contrast between Anna’s questioning of the relationship and desire to get back together plays well into the lyrics, even though they don’t necessarily stand out. That doesn’t compare with the music and Anna’s performance on the night, which was an intense experience. Compared to Mono i agapi (#239) twenty-four years earlier, Anna is a but rougher on the edges, but still gives her all on the stage.

Everything about her makes her look like a rock-star; the Jean-Paul Gaultier ensemble goes down as one of my all-time favorite performance outfits, and the crowd singing along is a highlight of the 2006 contest. The climax featured an awesome knee-drop at the end, and you could see how much vocal control she had. That’s how you do a minimally-staged performance!

#111: Boaz Maauda -- The Fire in Your Eyes (Israel 2008)

Also known as the other good Israeli Eurovision entry from the 2000s, The Fire in Your Eyes stands out as one of the more serious, yet beautiful songs from the class of 2008, which goes up and down in terms of quality.

Who would've thought that Dana International could write such a song? It’s so beautiful, with good use of Eastern elements to add a sense of mysticism and melancholy to it. I also like the clear vocal lines from Boaz (albeit with a crack at the end); his talent show pedigree really shows here. And the staging was quite pretty, though the backing vocalists' dancing does feel a bit jarring compared to the minimalistic lighting.

Ultimately, the lyrics stand out the most to me. They're really sweet and calm, with a serenity in the longing. I like the added touches of Yemenite Hebrew in the introduction, which adds more substance to the song.

I think it’s time I reveal things about myself. I am sorry in advance that I have let many people down. I am sorry to everyone I have hurt in the past and to those I have been resentful to.

It’s been 7 years and counting. In the past I have made a bunch of posts after my break up and I kept blaming others but myself. It is time I wake up and reveal my troubled past. This is going to be the hardest thing for me to do since my mind is scrambling and I can’t put my thoughts together.

I made so many mistakes in the past. Some have helped me grow into a better person but there are some mistakes that actually effects me as a person. During high school, I used to pop pills a lot. I did really bad in school and got transferred all over the place. I hated my mom so much when she tried to commit suicide and yelled at me for letting my dad leave. I shouldn’t have let that get to me because I ended up failing so many classes in high school that I barely graduated with independent studies.

Oh I also found out I’m a mistake baby :’) I mean it was obvious since I was born 10 years apart from my siblings and my mom didn’t know she was pregnant with me until 6 months in.

WARNING THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG STORY.

This is where I will reveal what kind of person I was in the past. March 13th, 2011, I asked out the girl that I had feelings for. We started dating and everything was going fine until I ended up screwing up. I ended up feeling infatuated with a friend so I told my gf at the time about it. My friend and I decided to keep our distance so I can work things out. I am fairly new to long distance relationships at the time so I already started screwing up.

Things didn’t get any better. I ended up moving to my sister’s place and I had a lot of issues due to the fact that I was trapped inside a house with two kids that can’t be left alone. I couldn’t find a job since we had no babysitter for my niece and nephew. Our internet was cut off for three months but those three months I always talked to my gf. I was able to get a seasonal job later on so I was able to make enough money to pay someone to get us internet. Things were looking better since now I can play games with my gf again.

When I got my internet back, we were super happy for a short moment until... something bad happened. Late night my gf was caught fooling around with me and her parents took away her laptop and phone. We struggled to communicate. We started spending less time together. Things got even harder and I got scared due to her parents threatening to call the police on me. 

Another friend from the past came back and we were talking about my relationship problems on how I couldn’t talk to my gf due to her laptop being taken away. Our only form of talking was through emails. I regret sending one email where I told my gf she was being bitchy. (I fucking hate myself for that. I still do to this day) 

That girl and I started having this flirtation-ship and I ended up cheating on my gf. It went on for about a month and a half I think and I wanted to break it off because I felt guilty and knew what I was doing was extremely wrong.. I wanted the attention and didn’t want to feel scared of someone calling the police on me but I truly fucked up. My gf found out when she logged onto my Skype and saw the messages. She had every single right to have left me that day but she chose to stay with me. I broke things off with that girl and since then I created an aftermath of real unfortunate events. We kept fighting more and more. I took things for granted. Girls kept talking to me and I wouldn't see harm in it but I should have known it would make her very uncomfortable especially with that incident. I should of respected her wishes.

We ended up getting caught again by her parents later on and her family was cold to her. I felt... like I was cancer. I hated myself so much that I didn't know what she saw in me. I couldn't handle the fact that I was the one ruining her life. She deserved so much fucking better that she made sacrifices for me when I couldn't even do the same. She spent money on me when I was too poor to even get her a decent gift. I was so pathetic back then lol. We both threaten to kill ourselves a lot but I am sure I was the first to do that.

These mistakes eventually carried onto me to my next relationships. I didn’t feel much for them. I couldn’t really tell them that I liked them or loved them. I felt so dull that maybe this is my atonement. I am not going to lie, one of them did cheat on me twice by sleeping with others and it didn’t even do anything to me. That’s how you know I was really fucked up in the head lol. I can’t feel anything anymore.

ANYWAYS... If you ever see this, I am sorry for manipulating you into thinking we would be happy. I am sorry for threatening to kill myself in the past. I am sorry that you almost left this world because of me.I am sorry that I didn’t give us a chance to be friends after our break up. I am sorry for flirting with all those girls when we were together. I am sorry for the past resentful posts I made about you. Most of all, I am sorry for taking you for granted. I shouldn’t have cheated on you. I should have showed you more appreciation. I should have been there for you when you needed me the most.

Truthfully if I had to, I would give everything up just to start over as a friend. I’ll be on discord/skype or w/e if you ever need someone to talk to. For anyone that is feeling like they are in the dark, I am here to listen.

I'm almost 17 and I'm hoping to learn to drive and buy a car, I was looking on some comparison sites to see what the insurance might be on some possible cars (ford KA, fiat sciento, nothing too fancy) but the quotes were ridiculously high? I know being 17 will mean expensive insurance but this was really expensive, they said the cheapest was around 6000 for third party. This is really high because I know loads of people who drive at 17 and their insurance ranges from 1800-3000.
