“I shall think about you.”

Those were the last words she’d said to him, and the ones she now repeated like a prayer as she knelt before the executioner’s block. Jane had hoped her death would have spared Guildford, yet Mary’s wretchedness and hatred for Ethians wouldn’t allow for that.

“I shall think about you.”

In the next instant she opened her eyes and found herself in a meadow, with tall beds of wildflowers and grass, the sunlight warming her skin.

“I hoped I’d find you here,” she heard from behind her. Tears welling in her eyes at the sound.

“Guildford,” she whispered as she turned to face him. It was not lost on her that this was the first time she was seeing him in the daylight; he looked unburdened, free with the way the sunlight danced across his features.

He smiled, though she could also see sadness and guilt reflected in his eyes. “Though, I’d rather it have been some years from now.”

“That couldn’t have been helped.” She took a deep breath. “I prayed that you would be at peace.”

He took her hand and pulled her toward him, flush against his chest, he placed one hand on her waist while the other gently stroked her cheek. “I am now.”

As he lowered his head to press his lips to hers Jane knew she too had found peace.

the thinggg about formulaic television cop dramas medical shows etc. is that there is always an inherent tension between Character and Message because these shows are like. more platonic dialogues than actual character and plot driven stories. you watch an episode of Law & Order and you immediately understand what the larger message about society and the state of the criminal justice system they’re trying to send is. and the best of them balance and interweave character with message to create fantastic TV but that tension between entertainment and morality play is so universal and so FAMILIAR and so deeply human that i will always love these shows. it’s the charm in the heavyhanded christmas play your grandma’s church puts on every winter. it’s the anxieties and questions of the amorphous collective consciousness embodied and reflected back at you and it ALWAYS hits.

for some time already i wanted to imagine in words perspective of uno, nico and rock at things that were thrown at us it the manga ending

bear with me, there definitely would be misspellings and grammar errors

so uno, nico and rock killed jyugo on one point or at least were direct cause of his death, intentional or not

they each met jyugo separately before, jyugo being like catalyst for their escaping prisons shenanigans but they weren't team or particularly close to jyugo

they never killed someone before, at least nico and rock for sure, so three of them flee in fear in different directions with no intention to meet again

but shortly after hiiro finds them and propose a "choice": never to be free ever again or to play pretend being friends with person they just killed and said person is somehow alive and have memory loss about all what happened before

my brain can't comprehend what kind of psychological sadism is this but there we have it

out fear and guilt uno, nico and rock agreed to hiiro's plan

at first I imagine them being really awkward with jyugo but jyugo didn't know how human interactions should be like anyways so they go through

after awhile they basically gaslight themselves into thinking that entirety of it is fine, that they all can make it work, that they might help jyugo like this, they can make him more human and so starting to view their friendship as real dismissing common sense about whole situation, fake it till you make it type of shit, they fell for their own made up illusion of happiness

in process they find bits of information about elf, about togabito but never the full picture

but after several loops of jyugo breaking his shackles, the main timeline we see in the story, they started to realize things not gonna get better, nor for jyugo nor for them (I think there should be at least two of this loops, first being outside of nanba, b4 chapters timeline and so after first they were transferred to nanba prison but how many loops they got through in nanba is ambiguous)

and that's where story ends rn, they want to tell jyugo the truth despite hiiro's orders and threats but they were too late to realize how wrong they have been
