He got to work the very next day with some difficulty, because now that Nicole could speak, she could direct her words to either of them. So when she saw her father walk around with his uniform, she stretched her little arms with the saddest ‘dada’ leaving her lips.

It was a blessing and a curse, because that tore at his heartstrings. He just dropped everything to pick her up “Oh my baby girl,it’s okay, Dada will be home soon.” Her eyes were shining with tears “Aw man,don’t do this to me,Nikki,” he chuckles sadly, rubbing her tiny hand before bringing it to his lips, kissing those minuscule knuckles over and over as Nicole calmed down.

Beatrice walked out of the kitchen to meet the two, smiling softly, “She’ll be okay,Roos.” she says as her husband just bounces Nikki in his arms, “We are going out today since there’s no more rain and I’ll leave her with my parents later, I just gotta help Penny-” she smiles more when Rooster lifts Nikki up then brings her down to kiss her cheek, “And we’ll go see Marcus and check how the collection is going.”

“Oh,right.” Rooster murmurs on Nikki’s neck,”It’s in December,right?”

“Yeah,Marcus wants to do a launch party of sorts and…well,we were invited. It’s not for long, it’s just so we can see the collection.”

“That’s alright.” Rooster smiles at Nikki, kissing each of her fingers, “It’ll be fun,right? Yeah,it’ll be fun- then we gotta think about Virginia,gorgeous. After Christmas,yea?’

“Hmhm,Nikki needs to have her first Christmas around family.” she says, “Hey,why don’t we invite Mav to the Christmas party? My parents won’t mind.”

Rooster looks from Nicole to Beatrice and there’s something in his eyes that makes him pause. The last time he actually spend a holiday with his godfather…was when he was about twelve? Maybe, his mother invited Mav over and that was…the last time. He wanted to but at the same time he was nervous about it.

Him and Mav were still rekindling their relationship.

Literal baby steps.

But the little Bradley, the one that loved his uncle and wanted him close at all times, wanted Maverick close by. He wanted his uncle to enjoy some time with him and Bea - and her family. Of course he now had Penny but, maybe he just wanted to relive that, “I can talk to him.”

“Yeah?”

‘Yeah, check if he’s going to stay around for Christmas and…if we aren’t deployed, he can say yes.”

Beatrice’s gaze softened, “You sound nervous.”

He laughs awkwardly, holding Nicole close to his lips so he could kiss her head, “A little.” He confesses with his cheek dimpling a bit “I haven’t spent holidays with Mav in so long. And while we are talking again it’s still…fresh you know?”

Beatrice steps closer to him to gently touch his arm, then kiss his jawline once she stands on her her tiptoes “I know,handsome. “ she rubs his jaw with her thumb, feeling the muscle there tense up as he clenches his teeth “It’s up to you,okay? Would you want to have Mav close during the holidays?”

He hesitates, opening and closing his mouth only to nod in silence, nuzzling Nicole’s soft shirt “Okay, if you are sure talk to him. I have a feeling he’ll love it.” And her fingers comb some of the sandy brown strands back, leaning up to kiss his cheek and keep her lips there “It’s your choice, babe.”

“Yeah,”he inhales “I know, gorgeous. I know.”

And after prying Nikki out of him, with some difficulty, he managed to leave. That didn’t mean it was easy for him to approach his uncle and ask if he wanted to join their Christmas party at Beas parents. He kept looking over at Maverick whenever he walked close, his uncle smiling and offering him a two finger wave before walking away.

Rooster chews the inside of his mouth as he thinks on how to approach this, he had to think a bit because he…wanted Mav to say yes but he was also nervous if he said yes. Did Mav even liked Christmas anymore? He didn’t seem to be into the holidays no more from what he’d seen from when they got back to talking…

He better do it now before he chickens out completely.

“Mav!” his uncle stops walking to turn towards him, a clipboard under his arm, “Hey uh, what’s that?”

“Well,” Mav smirks, flipping through the papers, “I’m going to instruct some new pilots and I had to take notes. So I won’t forget things.” he chuckles looking over to his nephew, “Don’t worry you guy were my favorite group.”

Rooster, while happy to hear that, just cleared his throat, “So uh, Christmas. Are you and Penny going somewhere?”

“Not really. Nothing planned.” Mav looks up at his tall nephew, “Why?”

Rooster propped his hands on his hips and pursed his lips a bit, then crossed his arms because he felt too exposed, “Do you…want to spend Christmas with us at Bea’s parents? You,Penny, Amelia…I mean, if you want to. We’d be really happy to have you.” he pauses, “I…I’d be really happy to have you there.”

The older pilot’s gaze was unreadable but something in his light eyes shone, surprise? Happiness?

Confusion?

All that at once?

Maverick opened his mouth to speak, letting out a surprised laugh, “Really?” he asks his nephew who in turn nods, smiling just a little bit. Maverick taps the corner of the clipboard to his palm to fill the surprised silence that surrounded them, “I…I…yeah,yeah I can do that.”

“Really?”

For a split second,Pete saw ten years old Bradley who’d barely reached his stomach, looking up at him during one of his many visits, asking him to stay for Christmas. Carole often approved of it, in fact he thought she wanted him to stay just to give Rooster a sense of familiarity for a little while. “Yeah,really.”

Bradley’s smile widened, his cheeks getting fuller and his eyes shining, “...that’s…great. Thank you,Mav.” he was giddy, like memories of his past were coming back, memories of him and Mav sharing eggnog as his mom cleaned the table after dinner or the two of them sitting together, with Mav trying to build the train tracks he got from his aunt when he was too young to build them.

And maybe he just wanted to revive that moment because he felt like he could. He had a daughter now, he wanted Maverick to be part of her life as well but he had to deal with his own trauma with his uncle along the way. They came a long way from the first time they spoke, but there are still things that happened, distances that were kept.

The little Bradley in him wanted his uncle back.

The grown Bradley did too but had to deal with his own anxieties and traumas.

“Are you going to let me know where her parents live?”

“Yeah, it’s um,” he clears his throat, “It’s in Little Italy, I’ll send you a map and everything too. It…it’ll be fun,right?”

Maverick,whose eyes were still on Bradley, only nodded with a smile, “Yes, it will be fun Brad.” he looks down at his watch, “Oh, shit. Okay,I gotta go.” he gives his nephew a quick hug, backing away from where they stood, gesturing at him with his index finger, “You gonna call me,right?”

“Yeah, I will.”

“Good,oh! By the way, send me a list of things Nicole can play with, I can figure something out to give her in the meantime.”

“I will Mav.” he waves to his uncle, “Don’t worry.”

His uncle smiled more, saluting him again - this time Rooster reciprocate the gesture - and walked away from there, leaving the tall lieutenant alone and staring at nothing for a couple seconds.

That…was pretty good.

Rooster could relax, he told himself to relax and relieve the tension on his shoulders before turning back around to his office. “That was good.” he murmured, “I’m going to tell Beatrice about it, she’s going to love it.” he is loving it, he’s loving it more than he thought he would. He was really nervous about it, he had to admit it, but now that he got a positive response from his uncle?

Well, now he was more than okay it worked.

And…he had to think about what he could give Mav. What could he give Mav? He knew his uncle but giving him gifts was hard because his interests went from zero to one hundred in a matter of seconds. Again he should talk with Beatrice about it, but he’d only be able to message her around lunchtime and he still had…two hours left. “I can handle it.” he murmured to himself, closing the door in his office “I can handle it. I can handle not messaging Bea. I can do that.”

Even if his fingers twitched and itched to grab the phone, even if he just wanted to talk to her now he held back. Rooster inhales to control himself, rolling his neck and shoulders to ease the tension, remembering he had things to do and even if he wanted to talk to Beatrice, he couldn’t.

Not yet.

Thankfully time passed fast and he could finally check his phone after grabbing something to eat at the cafeteria. There was one message from Beatrice.

Bea (10:23)

Hi Roos! I didn’t mean to send you a message this early but someone wants to talk to you!:) 

He sat down on his usual spot, Maverick not there yet, to press play. It was a video of Nikki, being carried by Beatrice as they walked through the house “Okay,okay, I know you miss him.” his wife laughs, moving the camera close to Nikki whose light eyes immediately focus on her image.

She stills for a second, tapping her little hand on the screen before Beatrice speaks again, “Do you wanna tell dada what you were doing?” Nicole looked over at Beatrice and smiled “Yes,what were you doing before? What were you doing with mama?”

Nicole proceeded then, without breaking eye contact, to let out a long ‘dadadadadadadadadadada’ that changed intonations every now and again, in fact it only got louder when Beatrice brought her closer to their wedding picture hanging on the wall, “Yes,that’s dada. You miss him a lot,right?”

“Dada! Dada!” one single slap on his picture, “Dada?”

“Daddy is at work, we’ll see him in a few hours.” Beatrice wipes Nicole’s face with her hand, kissing the little girl’s cheek as she walks away from the picture, much for their daughter’s disappointed noise “Daddy’s girl,what did I say?” the camera then shows Beatrice’s smiling face “Anyway,I hope you like the surprise,Roos. She’s been talking nonstop since you left…I love you and I’ll talk to you around lunchtime okay? Oh,one more thing.”

The video ended with Beatrice blowing a kiss to the camera then looking at Nikki, “Can you blow daddy a kiss?” Nicole just blinked, another ‘dada’ leaving her lips so Beatrice had to maneuver her hand to show Nicole what she meant. Nikki did try her best to blow a kiss, but it just looked like she tapped her mouth and smiled at him “Yaay, that’s great Nikki! Say bye dada! See you soon! Bye! Buh-bye!”

And it was over… and Rooster was melting. He was tapping his boots on the floor with his face touching the screen, hiding his absolutely melting smile and the way his cheeks were flushed. He was so happy, he couldn’t be happier. If there was any way to write what he felt he wasn’t sure if he’d know the words.

He composed himself the best he could, messaging Beatrice with the same giddy smile on his face

Roos (12:13)

Baby <333 you are killing me here! She’s so cute, you are so cute. I want to kiss you so bad but I’m not home ugh! That’s evil.

Bea (12:13)

Hi Roos! I’m sorry handsome. She just started doing it and I couldn’t help myself…but I can work on the kisses when you get home :3c promise you that <3

I did gorgeous. He said yes. So now we have to find something to give him as a gift, I have no idea what it’d be though.

We’ll figure something out :) how are you feeling though? Did the nervousness pass?

Rooster’s thumbs hover over the small device as he thinks about how to reply, licking his lips once he found the words

Roos (12:17)

It did. Yeah,it’s dumb gorgeous. I shouldn’t feel like this, you know? Not anymore.

Bea (12:19)

Roos,honey, you need to understand that these thoughts are normal. You spent a good chunk of your life not talking to Mav, it’s okay to be nervous and scared. I know you love him, I know you want him back in your life and now in Nikki’s life…but certain things your brain can’t really filter and you have a hard time figuring out how to deal with it. You two made a lot of progress in the short time you got back to talking…so please don’t think it’s bad <3 

He was going to kiss her so hard when he gets home

I do try, Roos. I want you to be okay. <3 I love you and your health - physical and mental - is so important to me.

Sorry! But you know,I’m glad it helped. I really am,Roos. I’ll tell my parents :) Is Mav allergic to anything? No,right?

Roos (12:22)

Nothing that I know of,but I can ask him.

A presence, alongside a tray holding food settles itself in front of him and he looks up to see Mav with his sunglasses up to his hair and looking older than he was, “...must’ve been fun.” he smirks, “Good class?”

Rooster stops messaging Beatrice to meet his eyes, furrowing his brows a bit and…well,his uncle seemed like he wanted him to say yes. Perhaps because he wanted his company? Because he wanted someone he knew close by? He couldn’t answer, “Your fanboys are there too,” Mav said, “I’m sure they’d love to see you there.”

Bradley chews his lower lip, would he go there, just once? Just to talk to them? “...well…if you– uh, sure.” he says, part of him wants to but the other part…is nervous. 

He should talk to Bea when he gets home.

It was a big shock for Yuri to be defeated and shot in the left shoulder in the battle against H-01. In addition, while there was an abundance of information in Judicial Bureau, he was puzzled that he could not analyse the mysterious situation that originated from the false accusations against Kotetsu (due to Maverick's handiwork).

TN: While trying to find the actual kanji they're using to describe Scarf-Tan, I found some of these other nicknames for her:

So my guess for "Bad Luck Girl" is 「不運な少女」 (there are two ways of pronouncing this combination that could mean bad luck: "fuun" and "fuguu")

My father was picked by a computer in 1964 to become a candidate for a new position, called the reconnaissance systems officer in the new SR-71.

He was picked because of his outstanding bomb record in the B-58. He was the first man interviewed by Doug Nelson at Little Rock Air Force Base home of the 43rd wing of the B-58 because he had walking pneumonia; Colonel Nelson interviewed him first, took him into a small closet, and asked him these questions: would you be willing to fly over Russia or China and are you a volunteer?

The Sheffield family was the first SR 71 family to arrive at Beale Air Force Base March of 1965. My Dad was picked not because he knew someone important. He didn’t know anyone. He came from a small town in Ohio called Rootstown. His father worked at the Goodyear rubber plant in Akron, Ohio. The first group were all like Dad, and they knew what an honor it was to be selected. This was a noble calling. They put the love of their country first in their life. These men were sincere, and their word was so honorable that you knew it was a solemn promise that they would rather die before they revealed it. You could just feel feel the goodness of these men trust honor, faithful, noble, confident, and humility. The tradition of selecting, the very best was continued throughout the whole program.

I would go to basketball and baseball games to watch my Dad and his coworkers play. I was shocked at how aggressive Daddy was. He didn’t act like that at home. They were all aggressive men .

These men knew how to handle social situations expertly. I would go to the officers club with my parents occasionally. Who could turn down a colored TV in the lobby near the bar at the Beale Air Force Base officers club with all the Shirley Temples (7-Up with grenadine ) with cherries on top that I could possibly drink. My friends lived near by they were mostly SR 71 pilots and RSO‘s children. I spent a lot of time eating dinner with them, watching TV , going to the bowling alley, going on picnics, running down the street to Ryan Park. Stopping by the Vicks, the Jarvis’s, the McCallum’s and Payne’s last, but not least I practically lived at Janet Payne’s house.

When I was a teenager, I hung out with Kent and Sherry Collins I would babysat for the younger kids in family. I didn’t know that their father Ken Collins’s was an A-12 pilot turned SR-71 pilot until many years later. I’m sure the postman was confused as an another Collins lived across the street. Charles “Pete” Collins SR-71 Pilot and his wife Shirley and kids Petey, Kim and Kathy they moved back after being away for a year, and now lived across the street from us.

The neighbors and my parents all came around with bottles of liquor. It was getting kind of late and they were getting rather noisy. I thought it would be funny to call the police on them. Just to see what they would do. I had my friend Jeff Anderson, deepen his voice and call the police from my kitchen. The police quickly came. I didn’t know that the phones were bugged. The base police assumed that the call came from my father not from one of his daughter’s friends . Jeff and I and a few other friends that had stopped by were hiding behind the bushes . The police said I heard there was a disturbance up here. As the two young police officers looked at the sidewalk with spilled liquor and bottles everywhere and four couples sitting in the grass !

Ken Collins quickly gets up approach the police car I said “You can move on now we took care of it.” I waited about 25 years before I told my mother that I was the one that instigated the call to the police. I think she was still thinking about putting me on restriction. Linda Sheffield

michael dupont was born in manchester, england to an english socialite for a mother and a french hotel mogul of a father. as their only son, his father had dreams of him taking over the family business after he passed, but mikey was never interested. a rebellious boy - he hated rules and school and anyone telling him what to do and dreamed of being someone that never had to be tied down or obligated to anyone. he was his father’s biggest disappointment and he had no problem letting him know that often. so, when he was sixteen years old, he decided that he was going to become a rockstar. he packed one bag, made his way to america at just sixteen years old and never looked back.

stefanie josephina moreno was born in havana, cuba to a single mother and a father that she never knew. growing up, she was simply known for being the most beautiful girl in havana and helped her mother pay rent by singing on the street for money. she spent her nights curled up by the little radio that her and her mother had in their tiny little apartment, listening to music and dreaming of being one of those girls on the radio. and her mother knew this dream of hers and knew that her voice was one that the world needed to hear. so she saved every penny she could, even going without food sometimes, and gifted the money to stefania on her sixteenth birthday - enough money for a ticket to america. she promised her she was going to become a star. she packed one bag, made her way to america at just sixteen years old and never looked back.

woodstock, 1969. it was the end of the sixties and while jimmy hendrix was shredding on the guitar, their eyes met in the crowd and that was the start of it all. if there was a textbook definition of ‘love at first sight’, it would have been the moment that they met. after the festival, they moved in together and began creating music, alongside a few friends they met along the way, formed a band called steffy jo and the six and almost overnight, became world wide rock and roll sensations. however, it wasn’t as glamorous as it seemed. because while they pumped out hit after hit and sold out tour after sold out tour, fame and fortune got to steffy and mikey’s heads in the worst ways - they were constantly at each other’s throats - whether it was creative differences or because steffy walked in on mikey with another girl...or girls or because mikey caught steffy kissing the drummer. their relationship was drug fueled, alcohol induced and incredibly toxic. but that didn’t stop them from marrying and playing the role of happy and in love when they were on stage together.

when steffy jo and mikey dupont were 45 years old in 1997, they already had 20 years of fame, scandals, sex, drugs and rock and roll under their belts. they had been touring with their band since the 70′s, traveling the world, selling out stadiums and living the true rockstar dream. they answered to no one and did whatever they wanted and even in their mid 40′s, they were just as messy as they were when they first started out. however, all of that came to a screeching halt when steffy jo found out she was pregnant.

steffy jo never wanted to be a mother and wanted to terminate the pregnancy as soon as she found out. but mikey was adamant that she keep the baby - that this baby was going to be proof that despite all of their make ups and breakups, that they were going to make it. and steffy was too much of a whimsical dreamer for her own good, and she believed every lie that mikey threw her way. steffy’s pregnancy was probably the only time that the couple was stable and on a cold and snowy evening, while their tour bus was driving through new york city after steffy jo and the six had played yet another sold out show at madison square garden, felicity stefanie dupont was born on the back of their tour bus, wrapped up in her mother’s infamous stage scarf until they made it to the hospital.

steffy jo went into shock shortly after felicity was born. the motherly instincts didn’t kick in and instead, she felt nothing but resentment for her little baby girl that had her eyes and couldn’t even stand to hold her, let alone look at her. it was then that she started turning to hard drugs to deal with what was obviously a severe case of post partum depression that she didn’t want to acknowledge or get treated. both she and mikey kept living their life as if felicity didn’t exist - pawning her off on nannies and whatever help was around instead of taking care of her themselves and simply using her as a prop when necessary to paint this false picture of a happy family in paparazzi pictures or magazine spreads. 

 throughout her entire childhood, felicity was raised on the road. however, the reality of what being a parent was something that the dupont’s never understood. they simply hired nanny after nanny to stay on the tour bus and in hotels with their young girl and they went back to their regularly scheduled programming of debauchery and fame, the promises that mikey had made to steffy about them being this perfect little family came crumbling down almost immediately. steffy never wanted to be a mother and if mikey was allowed to enjoy his freedom, so was she. felicity was too young to understand what was going on. her nanny would tell her tales of her parents being international superstars and that they were busy sharing their music with the world and she admired them for it, wanted to be just like them. in their rare sober moments, they’d take felicity to the studio and teach her all about music. the girl knew every instrument and had a voice that mirrored her mother’s. and her view of her parents was just as skewed as the view the rest of the world had of them. she adored them and wanted to be just like them, even though she spent her nights being locked away in the back of the tour bus by her nanny covering her ears so she didn't hear the sounds of them screaming and glass shattering.

when felicity was only eight years old, a years long affair that her father was having with a model was revealed, and the iconic mikey and steffy broke up for good and steffy jo and the six was no longer. mikey went on and basically completely abandoned felicity and steffy, starting his own solo career that was an immediate success, but steffy struggled. she attempted her own solo career, but drugs and depression completely took her over and she could barely even function and she didn’t want to, not even for the sake of her daughter because at the end of the day, felicity was the daughter that she never wanted. and through her drug fueled rage and nights of anger, she always made it be known to the girl that she was in fact, never wanted. she never showed her daughter any kind of warmth or empathy and she was always someone felicity feared. she dreaded moments that she was left alone with her because it meant that she had to take care of her - had to drag her off the floor and into bed or hold her hair as she threw up after a rough night out or force water down her throat when she was having a bad trip. and through all of this, felicity held onto the hope that one day, her mother would thank her, or even just love her a little bit. but she never did. and she never failed to make felicity feel like it was her fault that mikey left them.

it only took five years for steffy to succumb to her addiction. felicity found her dead in the motel they were living in at the time in 2010. she was out with her nanny that day and when they returned and found steffy jo unresponsive on the floor, felicity didn't even shed a single tear. she realized then and there that the woman she had hoped she'd become was just something she made up in her head and that her mother's love was something she'd never have and that she'd have no choice but to live the rest of her life with this giant hole in her heart that no one would be able to fill. felicity was sent off to live with her father. however, mikey wasn’t greeted with the big eyed little girl with flowers in her hair who loved music just as much as her parents, he was greeted with a girl who had nothing but hate in her heart for what her parents had put her through and a girl who had blamed him for all of it.

by fourteen years old, felicity had emancipated from her father and was living under the guardianship of her manager. she let go of any dreams that she had of music, not wanting to be anything like her parents and pursued a career in acting, wanting to prove to the world that she wasn't going to be a giant fuck up like them. it’s been eleven years since felicity has spoken to or seen her father but now that the man is 70 years old and he’s slowing down, he’s starting to feel the immensity of regret for everything he’s done. however, he can’t face felicity. because he had hurt her too much and looking at her reminds him of her mother, who’s death he blames himself for. so, he watches her from afar, wishing he would’ve done things differently.

as far as how felicity feels about her parents, she can’t imagine looking at a child and not wanting to give them anything but the best possible life. she has no empathy towards her father and while she used to feel the same about her mother, as she’s gotten older and has gone through similar substance abuse issues and the downfall of her own reputation after spending the first half of her career with a pristine image, she feels like she’s just starting to understand the woman she’ll never get to ask ‘why’ to. but perhaps some things are better left unknown.

My Music for March 2023

Dear Tumblr,

They don’t call it March Madness for no reason, believe me this month was complete and utter madness. I went through a whirlwind of emotions. It was really the passing of my grandma that caught my family and me off guard. No one thought she would be taken out from under us, in a brief moment it happened so fast and at that moment her heart gave out. I couldn't believe it and I’m still in shock. My grandma was very dear to me and I’ve been grieving and going through the motions of her loss. The music I have been listening to has been very therapeutic and has brought that healing feeling I’ve been aligning to. I wasn’t joking when I mentioned in a previous blog that the leading ladies were back at it again. With Kali Uchis and Lana Del Rey both dropping their albums in March, the Top Songs for 3.2023 playlist on Spotify is lit and jammed packed with new music that was released this month among other songs I fell in love with while listening to my Spotify Discover Weekly.  Shout out to Kali Uchis for putting her whole love and couchie in Red moon In Venus. Shout out to Princess Nokia for “i love you but this is goodbye” the album that brought closure to that situation that you didn’t think you needed. Last but not least, shout out to the Queen and mother to us all Lana Del Rey. The song Grants couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. The lyrics hit close to home. The lyric in particular, “My grandmother’s last smile I’m gonna take that too with me It’s a beautiful life” It’s these music synchronicities that tell me everything is going to be okay. The reason why I take time to share the music is important because you don’t know how impactful a song can be to a person who can relate to the music or feel understood in the poetry of that artist. Movie Diary 2022

And here's my movie diary for 2022. Once again, these are the movies that I watched for the first time this year - no rewatches. And despite seeing Top Gun: Maverick a total of 17 times this year, I managed to see 113 other movies (3 more than 2021!). As always, my favorites are bolded.

Shells was her best friend, Shells was the first person to bring her to this world where she and Rooster met, she had a lot to thank her…except of course, the several thoughts in her head. Beatrice looked…annoyed and nervous, she didn’t know why exactly, she knew Rooster would tell her that they should wait a few months or a few years before thinking about having another child.

Beatrice huffed softly while chewing the side of her thumb, Nicole happily babbling on her bouncer with the dogs surrounding her as her mother leans against the kitchen sink, too lost in her own thoughts to hear the Bronco entering the garage. Nicole however, tried to look beyond the bouncer towards the door her father always walked through, the dogs too turning towards the same direction.

“Babe?” he calls as he steps inside, letting out a delighted gasp when he sees just the edge of Nicole’s face peeking from the bouncer, her light green eyes squinting as she smiled, “Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh look at my baby girl!” he tosses everything he had in his hands to make his way over. The sudden noises snap Beatrice out of her thoughts, blinking to see Rooster greeting the dogs and then leaning down to pick Nicole up, “Hi, birdie! Hi!’ He kisses her cheeks repeatedly, complimenting her outfit and playfully sniffing her, just to make her giggle.

Beatrice still has the thumb in her mouth when Rooster meets her eyes, that handsome face only making her knees weaker, “Hey, gorgeous wife of mine.” he coos, walking towards Beatrice with Nicole still in his grasp. Her nerves melted into a smile as he leaned closer, kissing her lips sweetly, “Hmm, you got new lip gloss?”

She laughs against his mouth, ‘Yes, it’s blueberry flavored.”

“Ohh, I like it.” he smirks, pecking her a few more times before he pulls back to kiss her forehead, “You didn’t hear me calling?”

Beatrice just blinked at him, looking like a child that just got caught with her hand in the cookie jar, “I…no, not really.I’m sorry,I was just too busy with my thoughts,Roos.” her husband makes a face, clearly worried about what those thoughts were about, “I’m fine though– what’s that?”

She was looking behind him, which made him look as well, towards the glittery gift bag on the floor, “Oh, that. That’s a gift from the boys, you know how they said they wanted to give Nikki something?”

Her face softened and she smiled, “Oh, they didn’t have to.” she walks around Rooster towards the gift bag, her husband following while bouncing Nicole in his arms - kissing the baby’s cheeks with a grin whenever she gurgles a laugh - “This is a lovely gift bag too.” Beatrice murmured, “I might save it up for future projects or something.”

“I knew you’d like it.” Rooster smirked, kissing Nicole one more time, fixing the tiny bow on her head, “By the way what got you thinking?”

“Huh?”

“What got you thinking?” he repeats “You only get like that when there’s something off,gorgeous.”

Beatrice fidgets with the gift bag, unsure how to reply because she wasn’t sure if ‘Shells is bothering me about popping a new baby out’ would be a good idea. But this was Rooster, her husband and the man who was always there for her no matter what, “Oh um, just,” she shrugs, running her fingers on the edge of the bag, “Well…when I was out with the girls.”

“Yeah?”

“Shells asked me something.”

“Okay?”

Beatrice licks her lips, smiling nervously, “Just,stupid stuff really…she asked um, if we planned on having more kids- which is really weird considering that Nikki isn’t even one year old yet!” she was so focused on her hands that she didn’t see Rooster’s eyes stare at her, “I-I told her we aren’t thinking about it yet. Um and that,well, we ah…we have to wait until Nikki is a bit older.”

But she’s greeted with silence that nears uncomfortable.

So she refused to look at him, chewing the inside of her lip before she felt his warmth hovering by her side, followed by his lips kissing the top of her head, “Baby, look at me.” she does so, slowly, furrowing her brows only to meet his sweet smile, “Why are you nervous telling me that?”

Because she didn’t want him to think she’s forcing him to have more kids? Because she doesn’t want to put more pressure on him just yet? Because she overreacts? “I dunno.” she shrugs.

Rooster chuckles softly, “You are too cute,” he coos, kissing her head again, “And to answer your unasked question,I don’t mind thinking about more kids.”

Oh.

“You don’t?”

“I mean,” he shrugs, “The more the merrier…but I also worry because of you. I don’t want to make you stressed or too tired, I don’t want you being scared thinking about more kids. I’ve always wanted to have a big family.” and those words hit her like a punch to the heart, “But I also don’t want you to think I’m using you to pop more babies out. I’m in no hurry,I don’t mind waiting a year or more. We can plan it better.” 

And Beatrice’s shoulders relaxed as she sighed, arms immediately wrapping around his middle as she buried her face in his uniform, “God,Roos.I love you so much.”

“I love you too,pretty girl.”

Beatrice’s smile was so big she felt like her cheeks would split open, “I mean it though.” she says, kissing his lips a few more times, “Anyway! I’m going to wash this and then put this in Nikki’s room.” Beatrice walks to the sink so give it a good clean up, laughing softly once she was done, “Oh my God,Rooster,look!” she giggles, her humor already better just by his words.

He turns around to see her coming back “Oh this is so cute,look Nikki!” Nicole just stared at the bright colorful monkey - made of rubber of course - with one of her hands still holding on to Rooster's uniform, “Look!It’s a little monkey!” with huge eyes, almost similar to Nicole’s expression right now.

The little girl blinked, then let out a quiet ‘ah’ as she reached for it, a soft tinkling sound coming from inside the monkey. Nicole looked down at it for a few seconds, keeping it within her grasp before giggling happily, shaking the new toy hard to make the tinkling noise again only louder. “Aaa!!” she was so happy and so excited she couldn’t stop.

“Oh,Mav is going to love this monkey.” Rooster smirks, “Are you going to show it to grandpa Mav? Yes you are, shake as hard as you can,birdie.” he holds her little arm and shakes a bit faster, enough to make the sound appear almost unbearable to hear but Nicole loved it. Laughing even harder, that adorable baby laugh that made people melt that came from within. 

Beatrice just watched the two of them feeling her heart thrumming inside her chest, she couldn’t wish for anything better. He was such a good dad, he was so open and he was so honest and…and she shouldn’t be surprised by anything else Rooster says anymore, she really couldn’t, “Gosh you have the cutest laugh!” Rooster coos, kissing their daughter’s cheek as she keeps shaking the noisy toy, “Yes you do, yes you do!”

Rooster moves his eyes from Nicole to Beatrice, smiling at her soft look, “Baby,” he says gently, kissing her forehead and snapping her off her dreamy state, “You gotta shower, don’t you?”

“Huh?” she blinks, “Oh, the bar!You are right!” she places the bag gently one the kitchen table, hurrying her way back to Rooster to kiss his lips quickly, “I’ll be right back,I promise, then you can shower.”

“I know gorgeous.” he smirks, playfully tapping her ass, “Go on,girl. Get squeaky clean.”

Beatrice laughs, swatting his hand when he tries to slap her ass again, quickly running up the stairs leaving her husband, daughter and their daughter’s new friend: the monkey. Nicole was so entertained she hadn’t stopped looking at it, at the bright colors, the noises it made, even only turning her head to show it to her father, “Yes,it’s your monkey.” she shakes her hand a bit, still looking at him, “What do you want,birdie?” she slaps the toy on his chest, vocalizing something.

And then he figures out she wanted him to shake the toy again.

“Oh my God you just as cute as your mother.”

Nicole babbles something, keeping her eyes on him and laughing loudly when he shakes the toy again, her laughter only dying down when she drops her head on his shoulder, hugging his neck. He kisses her forehead, smiling as the soft wisps of hair touching his nose, “You are so cute, yes you are.”

He adjusts her in his arm before he walks up the stairs, smiling at the very talkative baby in his hold who just kept shaking her new toy with soft giggles escaping her. He kisses her forehead again, “Come on, let’s see mommy.” he knew how to time Beatrice’s showers so when he entered the room he wasn’t surprised to see her wearing a robe while placing her clothes on the bed.

She runs her fingers through her tangled damp hair before she meets his eyes, “Hi! You two got here quickly!” she laughs, holding up two shirts for him to see, “Which one do you think? Fleetwood Mac or Janis?” 

“Hmmm…” he squints his eyes, then points to the burnt pink colored one, “Janis. I’ve never seen you wear that one.” she seemed pleased by his suggestion, hugging the chosen shirt and pants to disappear back into the bathroom, leaving him and Nicole alone in the bedroom. He rocks the little girl in his arms for a little bit longer, seeing those light eyes flick from the toy to him.

“Ah?” she holds up the toy to his face.

“What? You want me to shake it again?” Parents are weird, they know babies can’t answer and yet they ask things all the same. Nicole blinked, shaking the toy a bit more and placing it flat on his chest “Oh you are giving it to me. Thank you,Nikki, you are so nice.” she couldn’t understand her father but she smiled every time that he did.

Rooster blinks when Nicole suddenly starts to climb on his shoulder, those little legs pushing against his ribs and her arms grabbing on his collar as she kept vocalizing, “Woah, okay little monkey, okay, Don’t get inspired!” he laughs, “Bea! She’s climbing on me!”

“What?”

“Nikki!” he has to hold their daughter by her middle and pull her back, little legs still moving in the air and hands clutching his wrists as she giggles, “She started to climb on me!” He had read that babies start doing a lot at the five to six months mark, but he wasn’t sure if he ever saw a baby that likes to climb her father at such an early stage.

Beatrice walks out of the room putting her earrings on and grinning at the scene, “Well, that’s new!” Nicole looks around trying to find her mother, finally meeting the green eyes with a cute grin, “You are full of surprises Nikki!”

And their daughter blew a raspberry, which in turn created little spit bubbles that popped when she laughed.

“God,she’s such a happy little baby.” he says as he tickles Nicole under her jaw, grinning when their daughter just scrunched her little face and tries to escape, “Aw man…you know,can we call your parents? I can stay with Nikki tonight.”

Beatrice chuckles softly, kissing his chin, “I can call them and let them know,Roos. Do you want me to?”

“Yes, please.”

He nodded his head like a little boy and Beatrice just smiled even more. Her heart felt so full because of his love it was like she couldn’t even comprehend it. Rooster was one in a million, she told him that many many times, but it was still relevant…there was no one like him in this world, if there was, she never found them.

Especially after their conversation in the kitchen  moments before. She just smiled at him as he played with their daughter, then stood on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek, “I’ll give them a call,I’m sure they won’t mind.” she says, “Are you going to take me?”

“And pick you up, you are leaving earlier tonight,right?”

“Yep!”

“Good, then me and Nikki can see you.” he smiles at the little girl, kissing her cherub like cheeks again and Beatrice couldn’t imagine herself being any more in love with him. She nods then, grabbing Nicole from his arms so he could take a shower, laughing when the little girl immediately latched herself to her mother’s neck with the monkey held tightly in her hand. “I’ll be right back.” 

“No worries.” she tries to play off that she’s not staring at his ass when he walks away, those pants were so tight she was sure she could see the line of his boxer briefs. Rooster turns his torso briefly to meet her wandering gaze, chuckling to himself, “I’m just watching you go.”

“I know you are.” he laughs, “I know you are.”

Nicole was sitting on his chest, actually sitting on his chest as she kept on playing with her new toy. Her father’s vision was a bit obscured because of her back against his face, but he wasn’t complaining. He kept her up with one of his hands against her body to keep her upright while the other gently scratched Eleanor’s head as the white dog lies close to the couch.

“Aaa!” Nicole vocalizes, bouncing a bit on his chest and making him cough quietly.

“Nikki,easy on the jumping.” he holds her still, “Daddy has to breathe.” Nicole looks around for a bit before meeting his face and smiling, “Hi,cutie.” she waves her monkey again, blabbering something that he just nodded along and obviously agreed with her, “Yes,yes I know, it’s really good.”

Nicole’s body leans back on its own, making her little eyes wide and her arms move back as if she wanted to balance herself. Rooster’s face is smashed by a tiny baby body as she tumbles back, making a little noise of surprise because she just fell on his nose, “Ow.” he chuckles, gently helping her back to a sitting position, “Birdie, you lost your balance. Are you okay?” she was, of course she was, she didn’t fall on something hard like the floor.

Nicole, who looked surprised, immediately started giggling, looking back at her father only to slowly, slowly lean back until she touched his face again. Rooster only laughs because his daughter was the cutest baby in the universe, “Look at you learning trust falls!” Nicole only laughs harder and he’s suddenly reminded of Beatrice’s laugh.

They had similar laughs, of course Beatrice’s was of a grown woman, but it was the same soft sound that made his heart beat faster. He sighed, kissing his daughter’s head gently before he looked up at the ceiling, “You know Nikki,I wouldn’t mind giving you a little sibling.” his daughter was busy tapping the colorful lines on his Elvis t-shirt, “It’d be nice…maybe two. Maybe two more kids? Would you be okay with that?”

Her answer was ‘buh-buh-buh-’ followed by another raspberry.

“Yes I knew you’d like it.”

He smiles as he stares back at the tv, his daughter still enthused by his shirt. He closes his eyes briefly, maybe when Nicole turns two years old? That’d be a good time, if he talked to Beatrice about it he was sure she’d be okay with that. He looks down at his watch and then back at Nicole, “Okay,birdie.” he picks her up under the armpits and kisses her cheek soundly, “Time to pick mommy up, you ready?”

She gurgles a laugh,kicking her little legs, “Me too,come on.” 

He was really happy that Beatrice was getting home earlier, not only because he missed her a lot but also because he could bring Nikki with him…and if there was one thing the people in the Hard Deck - i.e. his friends - loved the most was seeing Nicole. She just wriggled her legs when he latched her on the seat, kissing her forehead and handing her the monkey, “Alright.” he began, “Time to go,birdie. Ready?”

Rooster looks back at the three dogs standing on the door frame, “Keep an eye on everything,guys.” He points towards them before closing the door - after giving each of them a good pet - making his way towards the Bronco.

He checks his phone, only to see Bea’s little message letting him know she was waiting for him already. He looks back at Nicole once he latches the belt closed, seeing that she was still very awake, vocal and happy. She looked at the garage disappearing from her view as the car got onto the road, vocalizing more when her father turned the car and it made Nicole tilt to the left.

She just laughed more, waving her little fists in the air, “Oh you are so cute, my God. I’m not being biased because you are my daughter either.” he chuckles, watching the lights go by as he drives to the Hard Deck, “When you are older we are going to bring you into the bar,I promise. We can’t now, obviously, I think you know why.” more babbling from Nicole, whose eyes are now looking at the several lights they drive past, her little legs still moving excitedly on her seat. Nicole’s eyes widen when they approach the Hard Deck and she can see more lights surrounding them.

Well, that and Beatrice…and her Navy uncles and aunts.

The Dagger Squad surround the car, when they heard that Nicole was coming they couldn’t help it, and Beatrice smiles at Rooster who just unlocks the back door. Coyote is the closest one, “Hi pretty one!” he coos, unlatching Nicole from her seat to hug her, “Hi! Oh you look so nice!” cue to the row of compliments and gentle talking from the officers.

Rooster allowed, because they were his friends, and walked out of the car to greet Beatrice, “Hi,gorgeous.” he smiles, leaning down to kiss her lips sweetly, taking the bag from her hands, “Good night at work?”

“Yes, very good.” she smiles, looking over at the squad only to see that Fanboy was holding Nicole now, bouncing her a bit in his arms, “How was your night though?”

“Pretty fun, we napped,” he begins, tossing the back on the backseat’s floor, “Then we had dinner, then we napped again and then Nicole discovered the wonders of trust falling.”

“Huh?”

“I’ll tell you when we get home- um, excuse me,” he clears his throat, looking at his friends, “That’s my daughter, thank you very much, please hand her over.”

It was Phoenix who picked Nicole up, smiling down at her honorary niece, “There you go, go to mommy.” Nicole’s little arms reach towards Beatrice who immediately grabs her, kissing her cheek, “She’s so cute.”

“She is.” Beatrice grins as she sees Nicole looking back at the squad - giggling because Payback and Fanboy were playing peek-a-boo from where they stood - kissing her daughter’s cheek, “Well,good night guys,see you all tomorrow.”

A chorus of ‘night bea’, ‘bye rooster’ and several coos towards Nicole were the responses given. Beatrice watched the Squad go back inside the bar, some still waving to Nicole and Beatrice waved her daughter’s hand back with a small grin. When they all got inside, Beatrice kissed Nicole’s cheek again and placed her back in the car, latching her safely on the seat.

As she slowly moved back, she felt a presence behind her. She slowly turned her head to see Rooster, of course it was Rooster, with his arm leaning on the Bronco’s roof and his eyes directly staring at his wife’s ass, “Rooster.” he doesn’t move, just tilts his head to the side, “We are in the parking lot.”

“Yep.”

“You can’t ogle me like this.”

“There’s no one here and the ones who are here are too drunk.” cue to a group of men tumbling out of the bar and one of them falling inside the trash bins, “See?”

“Still.” she arches her brows, moving out of the car and closing the door, tilting her head to kiss his lower lip, “Don’t do it.” she whispers, “It’s not right.”

“If it’s not right, why are you smiling?”

“Because,” she whispers closer to his lips, “I like teasing you about it.”

And she walks around him, leaving her husband with his lips pursed - ready to be kissed- and his fingers tapping the car’s roof. He just laughed in disbelief, inhaling for courage before he turned towards the driver’s side.
