12 MANGA BY LGBT+ CREATORS
Happy pride month!! My time has come. Years of seeking lgbt manga lead me some great finds, and here's all the ones written by openly LGBT mangaka!
1- Our Dreams At Dusk by Yuhki Kamitani, an asexual x-gender creator!
A classic in the lgbt manga niche. Literally google "lgbt manga" and you'll find this one in the top results. It's popular for a reason! Starting Tasuku, a gay teen, the manga deals with members of the queer community from all walks of life living in a small town, and how being queer impact their lives. Yuhki Kamitani's poetic and abstract story telling abilities enhances a simple story line into one of the best emotional roller-coasters you'll ever ride on. TW: Attempt suicide, mentions of said attempt, groping of a minor, lots of homophobia
2- I Think Our Son is Gay by Okura, a gay creator!
An ADORABLE story about a progressive mom trying to learn more about how to support her closeted gay son without making it obvious that she knows. Super sweet and adorable, and the author's notes were so touching! queer joy all around
TW: Discussions and verbal displays of homophobia
3- Boys Run The Riot by Keito Gaku, a transmasc creator!
Another classic in this niche. The story follows a trans boy named Ryo who bonds with the trouble student Jin over men's fashion, and together they decide to start a fashion brand. It's refreshing to see the struggles of a trans boy portrayed so genuine and authentically.
TW: Gender dysphoria, outing
4- My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness by Kabi Nagata, a lesbian creator!
Kabi Nagata is an biographical essayist that publishes all her work in manga form. In one of her most popular works, My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness, Kabi tells the series of the events that led her to sleeping with a lesbian sex worker. Bold and authentic, Kabi has no fear to portray the ugly and fucked up parts of mental illness, in turn crafting an intimate and touching story.
TW: Self-harm, eating disorder, lots of discussions of mental illness, sexuality, and gender.
5- The Bride was a Boy by Chii, a transfem creator!
The biographical tale of the author, Chii, from realizing she's trans to meeting her husband, all told through 4-koma stories! The adorable chibi art-style and light-heartedness of this manga is sure to warm anyone's hearts! It's great to see the story of a trans woman told in such an optimistic and happy way. Details like the pop-ups of information about LGBT and Trans issues to the game-board illustrating her transition journey really show how proud Chii is of her identity, as she should!
TW: None that I remember
6- My Brother's Husband by Gengoroh Tagame, a gay creator!
The #1 non-sexual Bara, made by the #1 bara author. Tagame may be more known for his NSFW works, but his first SFW serialization shows the experience he's gained through the decades working on manga, even winning multiple awards (-) . After single father Yaichi's estranged brother passed away, Yaichi gets visited by his Canadian husband, Mike. A beautiful and sweet story of dealing with loss and overcoming homophobia, ft the cutest little child character and a very healthy divorced couple!
TW: Nudity (Technically non-sexual, but Tagame is a bear and it shows), Grief and loss of a loved one
7- To Strip The Flesh by Oto Toda, a transmasc creator!
An anthology book of various stories by Toda. The first of which, To Strip the Flesh (Where the manga gets its namesake) is inspired by the author's experience with dysphoria and coming out as a trans men. Toda was the assistant of Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Men) during the serialization of Fire Punch.
TWs: Gender Dysphoria, gore, mutilation (no blood shown), house invasion, nudity, hunting and skinning of animals, gunshot wound, mysoginy
8-Gay Fuuzoku no Mochigi-san - Sexuality Is Life - by Mochigi, a gay creator!
Originally published on Twitter, Mochigi tells of his experience running away from home and coming to work in the bustling Shinjuku Ni-Chome, Tokyo's gay neighborhood. Through his sex work and work in gay bars, Mochigi tells an authentic story of the ups and downs of the gay culture in Tokyo.
TWs: Though not visually graphic, it goes into a lot of details about gay sex work
9- Vassalord by Nanae Chrono, a transmasc creator!
Y'all aren't ready for the synopsis... ok so this cyborg vampire who works for the Vatican is frenemies with this fuckboy vampire. They fight then make up then kiss and break-up (YOU!). Together they go on missions set by the church. Extremely emo and edgy vampires, actually really great action, and all the charm of early 2000's BL, now with extra blood! Nanae Chromo came out on twitter as trans only recently, and many news sources including Anime List still lists him as Female unfortunately.
TW: Bloody fights, enough homoeroticism to make your teeth rot
10- X-Gender by Asuka Miyazaki, a X-gender creator!
Miyazaki (AFAB) realizes at age 33 that they not only are X-gender, but like woman as well! The relatable and awkward biographical story of the author's experiences and new discoveries about their identity and the community. The manga also takes the time to explain all the terms used in the LGBT community, making it very accessible to those out of the loop! Also, the art-style is very cute.
TW: Lots of talks about sex and gender, possibly other things as I have not read it yet
11- Why I Adopted my Husband by Yuta Yagi, a gay creator!
The cute auto biography of Yuta and Kyota, a gay couple who have been dating for almost 20 years. The manga talks about not only their relationship, but also what it's like to live as a gay couple in Japan, and the draws and benefits of adoption as a way to seek the same legal rights of straight couples.
TWs: None
• Final Word •
I made this list to celebrate all the brave people who are open about their identities, but I also wanna point out that there are incredible LGBT manga out there written by anonymous or even straight creators!
Happy pride month to everyone but specially all the people living in places where it's not safe to be openly LGBT, everyday that you breathe is an act of rebellion, and we should be proud of that!
Here's a quickie of some other LGBT manga that didn't make the list for some reason or another- hmu if u want more details on them or just wanna talk about lgbt manga in general!

massive rod family/heritage headcanon dump:
okay so i kind-of feel like rod is french canadian. i really love making people french canadian gang... so yeah rod can speak french pretty fluently. also the canadian part purely bc of mgwlic. so it makes sense for him to say that he had a girlfriend in canada. (because rod isnt dumb, he wouldve thought it out a little bit guys) but yeah i loveeee making it so people can speak french.
okay but dont get me wrong, french is a romantic language but when rod speaks it he is the least romantic peraon ever. he speaks really direct bc all of the times he spoke french it was yelling at his parents (just wait ill expand on it). but when he gets mad he starts spouting shit off in french (nicky has picked up a few new phrases). but yeah he spoke french from birth and learnt english a bit at home and went to an english speaking school.
parental wise? i love rod so he's getting the lesbian mum treatment (me applying the fact my mum left- dw half of this isnt what happened in my life).
okay so rod grew up in a right winged family (thats why hes republican) in french canada. he has an older brother (but he is ALOT older like 11yrs older so he never rly knew her) and mum and dad. and then other relatives that r irrelevant. everything was pretty typical. he never really spoke to his brother but he was at christmas and stuff.
trauma time 😜
rods mum up and left at like 9 years old to go live with a lesbian lover. rods dad is PISSED bc theyre like highly conservative. even though he was homophobic before this CEMENTS that ideology in his mind. he doubles down and drills it into rods head that being gay is bad and he is nothing if he was gay. he never saw his mother after she left.
this is why he is so scared to come out. hes scared that everyone thinks this way and theyre all out to get him and abandon him. so he also doubts it when he feels it because he doesnt want to be bad. but yeah :( thats why he bonded with nicky so much because he secretly thought nicky was rly brave for supporting the lgbtq but he was still scared that somehow his dad would find out.
this goes into more that rods dad refused to let him do anything 'feminine'. he trued to get rod to play a sport but he couldn't for the life of him so he took up an instrument (the clarinet) instead. he always wanted to do the musical and sing, but once again, it wasnt seen as 'manly' enough. thats why he loves going to shows and is so wowed when be sees nicky in shows.
his brother definitely started talking to him a bit more when rod was in college. rod reached out first asking for advice. his brother pretty much said 'study, dont get kept up in emotional things and find a roommate with the same interests as you'. after that, his brother kept tabs on him as he moved on with life. he tries to help princeton in the same way his brother helped him.
his brother heard about his mum and didnt really care. he was definitely never that homophobic or conservative (thats why he moved out so quickly) so he never really cared about his mum being lesbian.
okay wait im just gonna do this here. this is a yap abt how rod and nicky became friends bc like why not.
okay so rod was majoring business or something i cant be fucked to care. anyways, he usually studied in the library or the caf at night. and he saw alot of faces but nickys just stood out to him for some reason. he eventually figured out he was a theatre major and that his name was an n name. he keeps mentioning this guy to his business major friends and they have no clue who he is. they try to ask around too and find little info except for his name (nicky) and the fact he was in the last musical
anyways, as rod really loves theatre, he usually goes to the theatreclubs shows if he has any spare money. he buys a ticket to a show and notices that THAT GUY that he always sees around is the LEAD. rod has to do a double take and in the intermission he buys a program. rod spends the rest of the show just looking at him and just fawning over his singing and acting.
the show finishes and mostly everyone leaves. rod sticks around, looking at his headshot just making sure that he knows what guy it is. nicky ends up coming out, smiling but ultimately looking tired. rod doesnt see anyone approach him and nicky is streamlining it to the door. rod ends up running over and just complimenting his performance. nicky lights up so much and thanks him over and over.
rod mentions that he's seen him around. nicky perks up and says that he thinks one of his friends is in his class. he goes 'youre ryan.. right?' and rod just laughs and goes 'haha, no im rod' and nicky is like 'YEP THATS RIGHT! i was so close'. rod just smiles and is like 'ill see you around, you got any more shows?' nicky tells him they have like 3 more shows and rod asks if he's got any classes. nicky says that he doesnt but he has a test the next day and needs to study. rod suggests that they study together because he also has a test soon.
nicky agrees and they plan on seeing each other the next day. and their friendship is born!
anyways, nicky is so flustered bc the guy he lowkey had a hallway crush on had invited him to study and rod was like 'YAYYAYAYAYYAYAYA I TALKED TO THE GUY I WANTED TO BE FRIENDS WITH'
okay guys thats the end of a very VERY big yap. i hope you guys enjoyed my stupid headcanon rant about rod because i have very big feelings about this. i very much want to write a oneshot about college rodnicky. (theatrekid nicky is my number one headcanon) !!! also desperate want to draw rods family !!!
okay gang leave a #thumbs up and subscribe if you enjoyed the video. see you in the next one!

Top 7 Watches of 2023
Yesterday I did my top books from the past year, so I thought I'd make today all about the best TV shows I watched this year. Again, in no particular order:
Season 2 of Good Omens was very much a transitional season (so I think we all agree that it's a really good thing we're getting season 3) but it still had madcap adventures, unrequited longing, and theological mystery. Also, it's really, really queer.
Speaking of shows that were a wild mix of adventure and irreverent theology, way too may people slept on Mrs. Davis, which I absolutely adored. It starts out as an over-the-top adventure and the next thing you know, you're thinking about the nature of faith and the universe and AI. Highly, highly recommend.
I held off on watching The Wheel of Time for a long time because I could never get into the books despite loving epic fantasy. However, the show is fabulous - and the female characters particularly shine.
I love a small town story, especially one with a magical mystery and I really enjoyed The Big Door Prize from Schitt's Creek writer David West Read. The characters really reflect a range of reactions to the revelations of the door prize machine, resulting in a cascading number of secrets that are exposed.
Going in, I didn't expect to like Shrinking as much as I did, but it really finds the perfect line between funny and emotional. Harrison Ford is clearly having the time of his life playing the grumpy mentor and the supporting cast provides the perfect backdrop for Jason Segal's character's bad decision-making.
This show. The second it was over I was desperate for more. Imagine a classic British murder mystery, expect that it's set in Australia. And there are lesbians. So many lesbians. Deadloch is both laugh-out loud funny and the twistiest murder mystery I've watched. Every guess I made was wrong and yet the final solution was absolutely perfect. The two leads are a classic oil and water pairing who eventually figure out how to work together with so much heart and emotional depth. It's wonderful all the way around.
So, there's this dysfunctional family who owns a rundown motel in the middle of nowhere in rural Canada...no, I'm not talking about Schitt's Creek (for once). Moonshine is a Canadian show about five siblings who take over the family vacation resort and have to work together to save it. There are criminal shenangians and hot bikers and a lot of growth and found family vibes.
Honourable Mention:
What did you watch this year?
Tagging @missgeevious @carolrain @blackandwhiteandrose @noahreids @likerealpeopledo-on-ao3 @weathereyehorizon @obsessedwithdavrick @stereopticons @rmd-writes @chelle-68 and anyone else who would like to share what they watched in 2023.

🌲Hello and welcome!🌲
This is the sideblog of the Strange Paths Hiking Club for all our system stuff. (We used to be known as Team Mesa, if that rings a bell for anyone)
Generally Useful Info:
We are bodily 21
We’re white and Canadian, and we live in Mi’kma’ki
Sometimes we’re one person, sometimes not. It’s weird.
In the case that we are one person, you can refer to that person as Niamh or Sunrise. They use they/them pronouns, they’re a nonbinary lesbian, and they love a good ghost story.
Due to the inconsistency in how many people there are in the SPHC, it’s hard to say how big the system is at any given moment. At the time of writing this, our numbers are ambiguous and rapidly-shifting because of stress in our current lives.
We may be traumagenic but we do not conform well to medical ideas of plurality. We technically meet the criteria for P-DID? But only barely. It’s a weird situation out here.
On a similar note, we don’t really bother with role labels. We respect people who do, of course— they just don’t work well for us.
Use they/them pronouns for us as a whole. Some of us use different pronouns individually though
We’re studying for a bachelors’ degree in history!!
We practice witchcraft, mostly of the green variety.
We’re autistic and have ADHD. If we struggle to figure out your tone over text, that’s why. Sorry
Okay but who the hell are any of you
Niamh: they/them, described above, also sort of exists whenever we’re out of singlet mode (but is like. different??? in a weird way. they get simplified, for lack of a better word)
Glitch: he/it, does a lot of behind-the-scenes work, sort of technically a demon but it’s chill
Melody: she/they, possibly our first ever fronter, tends to be younger than body age (she is 16 at the time of writing)
Thistle: they/wisp, has some difficulties with speaking and focusing, likes the colour grey. Probably the most obvious one of us when fronting, due to wisps higher voice and unusual behaviour. They’re cool though
Velvet: she/her, a cool woman who gets angry on our behalf. Perhaps a little too angry sometimes. Used to be a persecutor but has since sorted that shit out
James: he/him, helps us do unpleasant social tasks (emails, asking for help, etc.). Very matter-of-fact, sometimes irritable but not externally
Kallie: she/they, alt girl, recovering from normalcy and making myself strange again. I’m writing my own bio now btw hello
Gio: he/him, jjba fictive with minimal similarities to his source, (still very interested in nature, though), inexplicably here for emotional support.
Nix: he/they, teenage vocaloid fan, kind of edgy (self-described)
Various others who aren’t interested in this blog!
Rules and regulations:
If you’re a bigot of any variety, find somewhere else to go. We can’t stop you but rest assured you are not wanted here.
Related to the above point: this system supports freedom for Palestine. If that bothers you, consider leaving us alone (and also consider reassessing your opinions, values, and current level of knowledge. and, if that doesn’t fix the problem, consider getting a fucking heart.)
No exclusionists either!! Specifically in regards to queerness and plurality.
None of us even want to touch the transid discourse but y’all can also leave, thanks. “But that contradicts the last point—“ no it doesn’t. When your ideas start to cause harm, that is when you have violated the social contract and are thus exempt from its benefits
This is a drama free zone. Please do not drag us into The Nonsense
We used to have a tagging system, but it has since fallen apart. We’ll try to tag anything triggering though, feel free to ask if you need us to tag something specific
Enjoy your travels, and stay safe!

A lot of these are connected to my fanfic, Our House. If you’d like to read it I’ll leave a link for it underneath my headcanons. The support I’ve received on both the original upload and the reupload(which is getting updated as much as possible) is so amazing. Thank you guys for reading my silly little ideas :) <3 most of these hcs will be Kern-Kimble related!
FAMILY & CHILDHOOD RELATED HCS
Jimbo and Sharon
The two are half siblings with about an 8-9 year age difference, both with the same mother(Daisy Kern) but different fathers, Jimbo’s being unknown and Sharon’s being David “Davy” Kimble. Sharon is cousins with Richard Tweak.
Jimbo grew up in a women and children’s centre with his mother and was often teased for wearing old or handmade clothing after Daisy’s parents kicked her out. She had Jimbo as a teenager forcing her to drop out of highschool. She absolutely adored him, he was a maaaaajor mama’s boy and is to this day. As a kid, Jimbo adored little tin soldiers that used to come in cereal boxes and a couple old wooden trucks his stepfather made him.
When Jimbo was 6, Daisy met his future stepfather, Davy. The man worked as a cook at the centre and often entertained the children, especially Jimbo, by performing shadow puppet shows or making paper hats. Davy and Daisy began dating, against the rules of the facility and got married when Jimbo was 8 after finding out Daisy was pregnant. Davy and Jimbo had always been close, and he took Jimbo on his first hunting trip at 8 years old.
Sharon wasn’t told her brother had a different father until she questioned them having separate last names after a few kids in her class teased her about it. Overall, it confused her but that was still her big brother. With both parents working full-time jobs to keep the family afloat, Jimbo practically raised her. As a kid Sharon was good friends with her cousin, Richard Tweak and Gerald Broflovski. She was often teased for dressing tomboyish and trying to act like her older brother.
Ned
Ned was the second child of an American man and Canadian mother. His father, Edward Gerblanski, was born in Denver, while his mother, Louise Gerblanski(Morrison), was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The two met when Edward visited Cape Breton in his early 20s. Ned is partially named after his father, his legal name being Edwin Thomas Gerblanski but in high school he began introducing himself simply as Ned or Ned G to separate from his poor home life. His older sister’s name is Lorraine, she’s taller than him and he hates it.
Ned grew up in Canada until about age 14, when his family moved to Denver, going from rural Cape Breton with fishing boats and cranberry bogs to a cramped and glorified cardboard box of an apartment. He adored bugs and history classes, as well as reading and in high school began boxing to get rid of emotions. His father was verbally and emotionally abusive towards all three of them. He was often sick as a child, especially after moving to the city where his coughing fits would get worse. Today, his mother is back in Canada and Ned calls her often.
Ned’s sister is an over-dramatic, artsy, lesbian wine aunt. Lorraine is an ex hippie and visits every few months. She’s hard of hearing and genuinely drives Jimbo up the wall but <3 Louise was not expecting two gay kids, but she supports the both of them and tries her best to be understanding. Louise is still alive, but Edward is not.
Others
Randy was raised by his father, his mother was around but an alcoholic.
Barbrady had a poor childhood, both parents were barely ever around and he was raised by his grandmother.
Richard Tweak is actually Richard Tweak, his mother and Sharon’s father are cousins. Tweek Bros began with Richard Tweak sr and his brother but constant fighting caused his brother to leave and force Richard jr to fill in his role running the place.
As kids Gerald and Liane wanted each other dead.
On top of that, Liane used to bully Sharon about her brother going to war before Sharon finally broke her nose and she shut up.
Jimbo used to watch Ned’s college boxing games and never realized it was him until he was like 40 and was like “oh hey that’s where I recognized you from!!”.
Shelley is a teen mother like her grandmother, she has a little boy with Kevin at 17 and the two get married after highschool.
His name is Oliver and he is such a little bastard, Stan babysits all the the time. Kenny’s not allowed to after trying to feed him dry cereal as an infant.
Sharon had headgear as a kid too, it made her just as violent she just had a brother double her size.
As adults though, Sharon is taller than Jimbo by an inch or two and Jimbo hates it.
Sharon and Randy get divorced when the kids are 13 and 16. Sharon has nearly full custody and the kids opt to spend more time with her than with Randy.
Ned and Jimbo are the legal guardians of the McCormick kids after their parents are arrested around the same time the Marshes divorce. Then a little afterwards, dominos fall and arrest the Tweaks leaving them with Tweek as well. Neither of them are fond of the term adoptive and don’t want to be called dad or anything by the kids, just want to act like role models and help them out.
Jimbo is secretly a Swiftie and Ned is secretly a fan of Canadian alt rock band, Barenaked Ladies.
I don’t CARE if autism technically doesn’t exist in South Park canon!! autistic Jimbo & Ned, autistic Stan, autistic Shelley and autistic Kevin. Mostly undiagnosed.
When Stan was diagnosed Sharon pointed it out to Jimbo and he was shocked.
“I’m normal 😡😡”
The two always just found their traits were quirks and come to accept it, neither are ever professionally diagnosed but they know what sensory things bother each other and signs of the other getting overwhelmed.
Ned reads Jimbo sad old dog books(Old Yeller, Where The Red Fern Grows) and he sobs. A grown man bawling over a bedtime story <3
The two have two dogs, Stars and Stripes, two old bloodhounds that sleep at the foot of the bed and snore worse than the two men. Jimbo bought them off some guy on Facebook marketplace.
Just like Stan, Sharon can’t shoot anything and would break down in tears on hunting trips with her dad and Jimbo.
hey gang have I told yas about some of my headcanons

I’m a couple days late to the 2-year anniversary of Enchanting Grom Fright, but I wanted to make some sort of post involving it because the episode means a lot to me (I’d also like to be funny but it might be a bit of a serious post).
I initially watched the episode in mid October of 2020. It had been maybe six months since I realized I was a lesbian and only maybe two or three months since I had accepted myself as a lesbian. I had just finished watching She-ra (2018) maybe a month before, and all the gay shit in that was wonderful. I still didn’t have the confidence to come out to anyone in my life even though I was pretty sure everyone would be pretty supportive (which I’m so damn grateful for). I was still scared though.
I remember watching Enchanting Grom Fright for the first time. It was around 9am on a Sunday morning in October and I was on the couch in the basement with my bowl of cereal ready to watch. I had binged the hell out of the show the past two days, excited for this episode because I had spent enough time online to know that this episode was gay, but I wasn’t prepared in the slightest.
I cried. I sat on the basement couch at 9am and cried over two girls dancing and one wanting to ask the other out but not being able to because of her own fears and anxieties.
Something about it was so much different than all the emotions I felt while watching She-ra, and I think it had to do with the fact that I was close to Luz and Amity’s age when it aired. I still am (unfortunately. Being a teenager fucking sucks), but that age similarity had made it all the more hard-hitting for me. They were my age and they were happy and maybe everything wouldn’t be terrible and I can be happy.
I came out to my family about a month later. I think that episode had given me the courage to be myself.
It’s now been two years since that episode aired and almost two years since I watched it (and I watched it; I ended up watching it 100 times in about 4 months and can now recite the script when watching. Oops) and a lot has changed, but The Owl House still manages to make me cry (and not just with the gay!). I watched Clouds on the Horizon with my partner the night it released (on The Owl Club because cable sucks and Canadian Disney+ wouldn’t have any of the episodes for another month) and it was just as amazing as the Grom dance for me, because even though I’m secure in my sexuality it’s still so validating to see queer people on tv.
I’m so happy I got to watch The Owl House, even though it will end (undeservingly) early. I’m forever thankful for Dana Terrace and the entire Owl House team for this beautiful show, and especially for Enchanting Grom Fright.
(Sorry for the long post I just had some feelings. Also I’m sorry if the formatting is shitty mobile tumblr sucks ass and my laptop is 9 hours from my current location)

Muses + Short Mun Bio
My name is Lana, and I’m the mun of this blog. I’m a high school student who primarily writes horror and mystery stories, with emphasis on lying, manipulation, and physical and psychological torment, but I enjoy simpler, more slice-of-life stories, so long as there’s a good plot. My pronouns are she / they.
Muses are right below the cut!!
Adrian Michaels - A dancer performing alongside her sister all across America. She’s rather shy, but with her performances, she’s found herself becoming a bit more outgoing. She normally wears darker colors. Her resolve is stronger than it seems, and she’s normally the voice of reason in dire situations. 24 years old || Female || She / they || 5′ 7″ || African-American || Bisexual
Bella Michaels - A singer performing alongside her sister all across America. She’s outgoing and loves people, and wants to gain friends and fans all over the country. She wears brighter colors. She’s often rash and impulsive, but keeps herself from lashing out at others. Her entire life, she’s enjoyed sewing, and makes both her and her sister’s costumes. 24 years old || Female || She / her || 5′ 8″ || African-American || Heterosexual
Caden Contiman - A former college student who dropped out due to a variety of factors, mainly emotional stress. He lives with his parents and isn’t allowed to leave the house, but he sneaks out at night and stays out until dawn before heading home to sleep all day. He studied psychology in college, which has led to an almost intimate knowledge of the human mind and an ability to read almost any emotion and action. He’s somewhat cruel, and tends to play mean-spirited pranks on everyone who catches his eye. He doesn’t allow anyone to know anything personal about him, but always pries into others’ lives and minds. 19 years old || Male || He / him || 5′ 10″ || Welsh || Homosexual
Casey Allman - A strange writer who works himself near death. He’s believed to be the only living member of his family, and spent quite a bit of time in the limelight during the collapse of the Allman family, which was spread out over three years. He’s antisocial, and freezes up if confronted by another person. The only thing that seems to bring him any joy anymore is his writing. When describing things, he goes into way more detail than is necessary. He has several bizarre quirks that tend to freak out the people around him. 22 years old || Male || He / they || 5′ 11″ || Korean-American || Homosexual
Charlie Patten - An assassin who travels the world, learning about every place he goes on every mission. While on missions, he poses as a tourist, and when the job’s done, he doesn’t bother to stick around for much longer. He’s rather confident, bordering on cocky, and can rarely be swayed to do something if money isn’t involved. When he’s not on the job, he’s a pretty sweet and approachable guy, if always on-guard and somewhat suspicious of everyone. 24 years old || Male || He / him || 6′ 1″ || Canadian || Bisexual
Christopher Simon - A waiter living in a large city, having to work multiple jobs to support himself and his younger brother. He’s quite cynical, which is different from his more optimistic, sweet little brother. He only does things for money, even if it’s unethical or dangerous. His constant struggle to survive has spawned a distaste for frivolous things or luxuries, seeing them as a waste of money. Despite being so cynical (and, for the most part, tired), he completely changes when around his brother, washing away to show a happier, much less tense. He despises his appearance and avoids mirrors and other reflective surfaces. 25 years old || Male || He / him || 5′ 9″ || British || Homosexual
“Cian” - A mysterious chemist living on the edge of a small town in Ireland, calling himself an alchemist. He has a love of plants, wild animals, and nature in general, a love only heightened by the dense forest behind his home. He’s very quiet and somewhat secretive, but passionate about his work and loves to talk about it. He can be quite blunt or uncooperative at times, but he does enjoy company, especially when the discussion turns to chemicals. 25 years old || Male || He / him || 6′ 6″ || Irish || Homosexual
Ciara McCormack - A ruthless queen whose family has ruled a small part of southern Ireland for generations. Having been raised with a cutthroat mentality and trained to eliminate all competition, Ciara has grown up to have that exact approach to everything in her life, making her a fearsome opponent to say the least. She’s quick to cut out anything she doesn’t need, which includes banishing or even executing anyone who even shows any chance of being a danger to her reign. 27 years old || Female || She / her || 5′ 9″ || Irish || Heterosexual
Corianna Sutton - An assistant investigator to her older cousin Evian, despite not fully believing in ghosts. She has a bit of an obsession with fire, which is shown in the burn scars and bandages covering the right side of her body. She’s cynical but still friendly and approachable, although her demeanor can come off as bizarre. She drinks often, and keeps a flask painted with the lesbian flag hooked on her belt. 28 years old || Female || She / her || 5′ 6″ || German || Homosexual
Daniel Hirsch - A teenage street urchin and graffiti artist who is almost never seen without his sister. He’s annoying and troublemaking, but not without a kind heart. He doesn’t find it easy to make friends, but considers that unimportant, knowing that he’ll always have his twin by his side. He’s more verbally restrained than his sister, but just as irritating as she is. 14 years old || Male || He / him || 5′ 4″ || German || Bisexual
Evian Sutton - A paranormal investigator who explores all sorts of “haunted” places, recording them for her YouTube channel. She doesn’t always carry around all of her equipment, but she makes sure to keep a recorder on her at all times. She’s unapproachable and abrasive, and isn’t very friendly towards anyone other than her younger cousin Corianna. Normally, when she’s approached by someone else, she’ll simply brush them off with a few crass words. She’s normally very uninterested when it comes to most things, but the paranormal piques her interest and gets her truly passionate. 29 years old || Female || She / her || 5′ 9″ || German || Asexual
Grace Hirsch - A teenage street urchin and graffiti artist who is almost never seen without her brother. She’s a loudmouth with little control over what she says, and she often instigates fights, even without meaning to. She has a teddy bear she carries with her everywhere, with rips and patches all over it, that she considers the closest thing to her aside from her brother. Every possession she owns is stored inside of a large backpack she carries slung over one shoulder. 14 years old || Female || She / her || 5′ 4″ || German || Heterosexual
Kai “Shōakuma” Misaki - A high school student often accompanied outside of school by his loyal falcon Chieko. He’s social and charismatic, with an ability to capture almost anyone’s attention with his wild stories. He’s absolutely fascinated by history, especially religion, as well as the supernatural. Despite his eccentricities, he’s a good person, with a strong moral compass and a warm, kind heart. 17 years old || Male || He / him || 5′ 2″ || Japanese || Bisexual
Kunimasa Sakurai - A young man living with his family while attending the local college. He’s stuck to a strict fitness regimen for years, and has a passion for physical health, believing it links back to everything in one’s life. He holds family and friendship close to his heart, and would die to protect the people he loves. 20 years old || Male || He / they || 5′ 6″ || African-Japanese || Asexual
Landon Garrison - A bounty hunter residing on the deep web, hidden behind the pseudonym “Black Mask”. For a price, he can find anyone’s personal information and give it to his client. He doesn’t socialize much, preferring to hide indoors on his computer. When he is accompanied by someone else, he’s notably tense, and refuses to do anything that can make him seem vulnerable. 24 years old || Male || He / him || 5′ 11″ || British || Bisexual
Logan Garrison - A talented painter who has somehow lacked emotions since birth. He’s managed to learn how to adapt to any situation and show whatever emotions he needs to, comparing it to painting, and despite his inability to feel empathy, he’s able to sympathize with others, and knows right from wrong. He’s extremely protective of his brother, Landon, and fears for his safety, knowing the dark web can be dangerous. Most of his life is taken up by his art. 24 years old || Male || He / him || 6′ 1″ || British || Asexual
Lyrica Jansen - A wealthy heiress with a high net worth. Her older sister vanished mysteriously, causing her to become the sole heir to the family fortune. She looks dangerous and unkind, but despite her icy exterior, she’s kind and welcoming to others, but not without many threats towards those who disobey her. Her clothing and jewelry are elaborate and she’s quite tall, making her somewhat intimidating to be around. 19 years old || Female || She / her || 6′ 3″ || Dutch || Homosexual
Maysilee Patten - A former soldier on the search for the people who destroyed her home. She’s a sweet person, but her fuse is unbelievably short, and she’s easily sent into a rage. She’s skilled with nearly every kind of weapon, her preferred weapon being knives. Her loyalty is unmatched, but so is her ability to hold a grudge. 22 years old || Female || She / her || 5′ 10″ || Irish || Pansexual
Minka Himura - A sarcastic high school student working part-time at her family’s butcher shop, deli, and restaurant. She loves to play pranks on her family and classmates, some of which have dangerous consequences. Although she’s quite mean-spirited, she has a soft spot for her siblings, and is a hard worker. 16 years old || Female || She / they || 5′ 3″ || Polish-Japanese || Questioning
Myla Crimm - A doll-like teenager with a knack for collecting random items. They don’t speak much, and prefer to blend into the background. She resides in her childhood home, which is now decrepit after the death of her mother. Because they live alone, they have quite a bit of experience and can take care of themself just fine. He’s levelheaded, but curious, and is aware of how off-putting he can sometimes appear to others. 18 years old || Genderfluid || She / he / they || 5′ 4″ || American || Bisexual
Onacona Pierce - A high school student and the head of his school’s music club. He’s a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to instruments, playing most, if not all, with skill, but he prefers the guitar. He’s easygoing and fun to be around, with an unexpected love of horror movies and literature. They have an online presence where they perform music. Currently, he mostly performs covers, but he’s been starting to write more and more original work. 17 years old || Male || He / they || 5′ 11″ || Native American || Heterosexual
Reiko Wakabayashi - A hardworking surgeon traveling overseas to perform surgeries for the less fortunate. She was a child prodigy, and as such, had a lot of pressure put on her to succeed; pressure that has resulted in a constant need to do well and please everyone else. Although she’s quite quiet, she’s fine with large groups, and loves to have her ear talked off by someone who’s passionate about someone. She cares deeply for children, women, and weak or ill people. 27 years old || Female || She / her || 5′ 6″ || Japanese || Asexual
“Rusty” - A runaway fleeing the law and their past. He’s plagued by several problems with his health, including blindness, an extremely low weight, and a whole host of diseases. Because of these problems, he tries to remain in one place for as long as he can to restore his stamina, but he refuses to stay somewhere for longer than two weeks. He resembles a skeleton. They’re constantly paranoid, avoiding human contact as much as possible and relying only on their own intuition and four working senses to help them. 25 years old || Demiboy || He / they || 5′ 9″ || Korean-American || Pansexual
Sam Fields - A mechanic working at their family-owned autobody shop. They spend most of their time holed away in the garage, hard at work, smeared with oil and gasoline. Most of their skeleton is metal and most of their skin is covered in burn scars due to a past accident. They’re social and warm, and very physically affectionate. They can be reckless, even if they’re warned about dangers. 25 years old || Non-binary || They / them || 5′ 7″ || American || Bisexual
Shira Hadley - A pickpocket who’s normally only found darting through crowds, stealing trinkets and jewelry, and before someone can realize something’s gone, she’s already vanished. She had her vocal cords cut as a teenager, resulting in her being completely unable to communicate outside of noises, half-uttered syllables, and gestures. Due to her constant fear of getting caught, she tends to stick to shadows, and is extremely paranoid when encountered by anyone. 21 years old || Female || She / her || 5′ 7″ || Dutch || Grey-Asexual
Volya Orlov - A DJ who’s famous at several different clubs. He’s rebellious and tough, but mostly friendly towards people on his side. A bizarre incident has altered his body to the point where he emits sparks when he gets emotional, which is why many of his friends call him “Sparkplug” or “Sparky”. He’s often spotted alone, but doesn’t mind company. 21 years old || Male || He / him || 5′ 9″ || Russian || Heterosexual
William Simon - A child living with his older brother, who’s struggling to make ends meet. He recognizes the sacrifices his brother makes for him and wants to help, but is stopped and always told not to grow up too quickly. He often stays at his brother’s main workplace, a small cafe and diner, where he sits in the breakroom, coloring and talking with the other workers when they come in for their own breaks. He’s friendly, but cautious, having been taught to always be careful around others. 12 years old || Male || He / him || 5′ 2″ || British || Asexual
Zenjiro Himura - A peculiar man whose family has owned and operated a combination butcher shop, deli, and restaurant in the heart of Kotohira, Kagawa for generations. He’s the eldest of sixteen siblings, all living and working with their mother. He’s approachable and friendly, but has a knack for getting excited over extremely macabre and disturbing things. As the oldest brother, he has an instinct to protect and care for anyone younger or weaker than he is. 26 years old || Male || He / him || 5′ 9″ || Japanese || Pansexual

“I know stuff with gay subtext is always infinitely more popular in...”
What are your fave good and gay media? Asking for myself
Thank you so much for asking this and giving me a chance to ramble about my favorite gay media.
Live Action TV
Black Sails: A golden age pirate show that’s actually about how marginalized people are mistreated by “civilization” and how they fight back. I have literally written essays about what an important gay story it is.
In The Flesh: A zombie show that uses discrimination against zombies as a metaphor for homophobia but also the main character is actually gay and deals with literal homophobia as well. Really well done. I’ll never stop being mad it was cancelled.
Schitt’s Creek: Fun sitcom. Starting in the second half of season 3 it has one of the best and sweetest gay romances on television.
Happy Endings: Also a sitcom. May be arguable whether or not this one actually qualifies as “good” but Max is one of my favorite gay characters on television.
Movies
Pride (2014): Based on the true story of LGSM (Lesbians and Gay Men Support the Miners), a group of gay and lesbian activists who organized in support of the UK miners’ strike in the 80s. My favorite movie ever.
The Handmaiden (2016): A lesbian thriller set in Japan-occupied Korea. Hard to reveal many plot details without spoiling things, but this movie is the textbook definition of Poetic Cinema.
Cloudburst (2011): An old lesbian couple goes on a road trip to Canada to get married so they won’t be separated into different nursing homes. They adopt a hitchhiker along the way. A bittersweet ending, but one of the best gay romcoms I’ve ever seen. Genuinely funny and uplifting.
Dear Ex (2018): A man dies of cancer after having changed his life-insurance beneficiary from his ex-wife to his male lover. His son is stuck in the middle of the conflict as the ex-wife tries to fight for the insurance money. Really great characters, surprisingly heartwarming. I’m emotional just thinking about it.
Anime
Given: A story of overcoming loss and joining a band. Great characters, multiple canon gay couples, compelling plot not directly related to the romances, great music. I also love the comic.
Manga
I’m limiting my manga recs to stuff with official English translations but I honestly read A LOT of gay comics so if anyone wants more recs than this feel free to send me an ask or message and let me know more about your taste and I’ll send you more recs.
Our Dreams At Dusk: A really nuanced and compelling examination of many LGBT identities in modern Japanese culture--includes gay and trans characters. It has a lot of important things to say how to deal with both being harmed and unintentionally harming others. Also the art is GORGEOUS.
My Brother’s Husband: A sweet comic about a Japanese man meeting his twin’s Canadian husband after his twin’s death. A heartwarming slice of life about gay acceptance.
My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness: An autobio comic that explores depression and lesbian identity.
After Hours: A music-focused lesbian romance. Reminds me of Given in some ways. A woman hooks up with a DJ at a club and then ends up working with her to plan music events.
Books
The Song of Achilles by Madelline Miller: A retelling of the Iliad written as a romance between Achilles and Patroclus. One of the most tender romances I’ve ever read, and some of the most gorgeous prose as well. Just incredibly well-written.
Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett: This book played a major role in my own gay awakening. It’s a Discworld book, but it’s standalone enough that you don’t need to have read any other Discworld to read it. It’s about a girl who dresses up as a boy to join the army and (spoilers) slowly discovers many of the others in her regiment are in the same situation. Has some canon lesbians AND a lot of good subtextual exploration of gender and sexuality.
Silver Darlings by me: jk I’m not actually that conceited but if anyone WAS interested in reading Part 1 of my novel I’m happy to send links.
#equinexia#these are just highlights from each medium#I consume a lot of gay media so feel free to ask for expanded recs

Let me tell you about my new characters!
I technically started developing this as a Voltron AU but it took on a life of its own and became so AU and OOC that I just went “fuck it” and made a whole new batch of characters. There’s vague similarities because of how it started, but I feel that Voltron is archetypal enough in its character design that it was unavoidable.
For context, it’s a kind of futuristic special ops/military setting. The futuristic comes from mild elements of cybernetics and genetic modification. I’ve also made all the main group queer and disabled and/or neuroatypical. Not to mention culturally diverse.
Because of the wide level of diversity, it should be obvious that I don’t have personal experience in everything I portray, so I’m going to be doing a huge amount of research and talking to people with first hand experience. I’ve also tended towards things that people I know personally experience, especially in the case of neuro diversity and queer-ness, but I acknowledge that no 2 experiences are the same.
With all that in mind, I’m really excited to be finally writing details and notes for this universe and I’ll post details for a few of the charas under the cut :) (Note: They don’t really have names yet)

Novel Prep
Thanks to @dimawriting and @maple-writes for tagging me!!
WIP: The Inbetween
Tagging: @drist-n-dither @theforgottencoolkid @minny-santa and uhh anyone else who sees this!
This gets pretty long so I’ll put it under a read more.
First Look
1. Describe your novel in 1-2 sentences (elevator pitch)
The crew members abroad the Perseus Space Station were tasked with investigating the first signs of early human-like civilization on an exoplanet. The truth behind the ruins scattered across the dying planet, however, is stranger, darker, older than anything they ever expected.
2. How long do you plan for your novel to be? (Is it a novella, single book, book series, etc.)
As of right now, The Inbetween is a single book divided into 5ish parts. The POV will be third person. Still not sure if I want to switch between characters for each chapter or if I want each of the 5 parts told through the perspective of one of the main characters. I am playing with the idea of a sequel. I also want to write about the before and after the events of The Inbetween. There are also at least two AUs running around my mind so I might explore those too.
3. What is your novel’s aesthetic?
Dark skies full of stars, floating weightlessly, lonely planets, geometry, singularity, the smallness of existence, amorphous shadows on the wall, empty corridors, static, flickering lights, hearts racing from adrenaline, the taste of blood in your mouth as you run for your life
4. What other stories inspire your novel?
The Inbetween originated from me wanting to take some of my unused characters beyond them just being characters. The earliest drafts of The Inbetween were short stories inspired by Wolfgun’s music. The story eventually grew into what it is now thanks to a few episodes of Star Trek and Welcome to Nightvale. Lots of the scenes I currently have written were born from daydreaming to Carbon Based Lifeforms’s music. I would say CBL has had the biggest influence on the story.
5. Share 3+ images that give a feel for your novel
This one is for the last part of the book.
Main Character
6. Who is your protagonist?
There are five protagonists:
Emmett Reyes: Mexican-American, 19 (at the beginning of the story), aro/ace, trans, biologist
Johann Herschel: British-German, 20 (at the beginning of the story), bi, nonbinary, pilot and navigator
Neveen Jalal: Egyptian-American, 19 (at the beginning of the story), lesbian, chemist, starship medic, lowkey inspired by my high school chem teacher
Oliver West: Korean-Canadian, 20 (at the beginning of the story), gay, mechanic
Alternis: A.I., years active unknown, primarily used for security and scouting
7. Who is their closest ally?
Their closest allies would be each other. Here’s some specific friendships:
Overall: they grow as close as family. Nothing like a near death experience out in the middle of the cold, indifferent void to make five kids bond for life.
Neveen + Emmett: Nerd friends! With him being a biologist and her becoming a medic, they share a love for the subject. They bond over their love for their cultures. They teach each other words in their native tongues.
Johann + Emmett + Oliver: Partners in crime!! These three are as ride or die as you can get with a group of friends. While Johann isn’t always keen on the chaos, he still goes along with it because “who’s going to serve as your guys’s impulse control???” Secretly, he loves it.
Oliver + Johann: Oliver becomes pretty supportive of all his friends and his relationship with Johann is no different. Oliver makes for a pretty good listener and he doesn’t mind hearing about his friend’s worries. He’ll offer some pretty good advice as well.
Neveen + Oliver: Oliver is, without a doubt, the most social of all the crew members. Unlike him, however, Neveen is the exact opposite. He will respect her space if she needs it, but he is also there to make sure she doesn’t lose herself in it. In a lot of ways, he reminds Neveen of her own sister.
Emmett + Alternis: These two form a pretty close bond. Both share feelings of becoming static in life. Both struggle with insecurity and general feelings of anxiety that they are not good enough. However, they both also share a deep curiosity for the world around them. She likes to ask him questions knowing he won’t brush them off and he feels comfortable enough to ramble on about whatever subject is most interesting to him knowing that she is willing to listen with interest herself.
Bonus:
Commander Mitch Connor + his crew: At first, Mitch was pretty hesitant to be this mission’s commander. They’re all kids, two of them fresh out of high school almost. However, he quickly learns that this crew is more than capable. They’re adaptable and fiercely resilient. They know how to use their strengths to their advantage and do so creatively. Most importantly, though, they genuinely care about each other.
8. Who is their enemy?
The story’s main antagonist is a weird hivemind entity that is partially made from various alien life forms and part alien tech. It’s main purpose is to find creatures its programming deems perfect specimens and then merge with (eat???) them to take on their abilities. The creature was once a technologically advanced alien race from a different dimension who sought to create the “perfect being”. No one’s really sure what “perfect being” meant for them, but eventually they, and most of their old universe, were all consumed by their creation. The entity then traveled across many other dimensions still seeking specimens to consume. While it has no definite shape or can even be considered a single animal, it’s still very much sapient. It’s hard to tell the age or if it was supposed to be machine or animal or even what species it originally was. However, the minds and voices of its creators live on with it.
If you want an idea as to how it sounds, it’s a little like the Warpers from Subnautica but with multiple voices. Here’s a clip.
9. What do they want more than anything?
They all have different dreams that they are pursuing, but they basically all want a life where they can be happy and have closure.
Emmett wants to be at peace with himself.
Johann wants to find a place that he can call home.
Oliver wants to protect the little he already has.
Neveen wants to achieve her dreams.
Alternis wants to belong.
10. Why can’t they have it?
Emmett is, first of all, much too doubting in himself. He worries so much that he can’t appreciate the things he has done right or the things he can do. He isn’t very kind to himself.
Johann misses the life he had on Earth. He and his family moved to a new planet because they don’t really like Earth and want to experience something new. But Johann never feels the same sense of “home” as he did on Earth.
Oliver’s job is helping out his mother with their repair shop. So, when the shop is threatened with closure, he is desperate to find another job, but since he dropped out and never finished school, he’s having a really hard time coming up with something that will provide enough. This is why he ends up joining the space program.
Neveen is in a somewhat similar boat. She has dreams of working as a doctor and all of her time and effort goes into studying for that. She, however, ends up getting rejected from three different schools in her area. She starts to feel like time is somehow running out for her.
Alternis has had a hard time. When she didn’t fit the expectations her creators set, she quickly discovered that her differences were seen as something flawed. She spent a lot of her early days either alone and she grew to be resentful towards people. But she wants to be accepted, so when they told her she was to be assigned to the Perseus Station, she had a lot of mixed feelings about the situation.
11. What do they wrongly believe about themselves?
Emmett: not smart/good enough, not allowed to make mistakes
Neveen: her success determines her worth, has to do things just right or Else
Oliver: dumb for dropping out of college, is not much other than the comic relief in his friend group
Johann: thinks he can run from facing what’s really bothering him
Alternis: needs to have a purpose to be worth something to others, needs to change to be accepted
12. Draw your protagonist! (Or share a description)
Emmett: 5′2, curly brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin, a scar running from jaw to cheek, there’s a picture @auroradrawing made here!
Neveen: 5′5, long black hair, brown eyes, dark skin, red hijab
Johann: 6′2. dark blond hair, blue eyes, pale skin
Oliver West: 5′10, black hair, brown eyes, pale skin
Alternis: i made a post on her appearance here
Plot Points
13. What is the internal conflict?
I would say that the overall internal conflict for all the characters is them struggling to understand that they are human which means that they are allowed to be wrong, make bad decisions, have emotions, and fail and none of this undermines their value in any way.
14. What is the external conflict?
The main external conflict is survival. They come into contact with a powerful interdimensional creature who is possibly hundred of thousands of years old or more and they have no idea how to stop it. After their station and only way home gets destroyed and they find themselves stranded with no way to let anyone know what’s happening, they realize that they have to find a way to at least repel the creature as it’s not just their survival at stake, but also that of their friends and family back on Earth.
15. What is the worst thing that could happen to your protagonist?
Death, probably. There’s a lot of things that would be left undone and unsaid and also literally no one else knows what is going on, so it could be a while before anyone back home realizes they’re never coming back. And that thought is one of the scariest things they can imagine.
16. What secret will be revealed that changes the course of the story?
Basically the purpose of the entity and them figuring out what it is and what it wants changes everything they were led to believe at first about the planet and the origin of the ruins.
17. Do you know how it ends?
Yes. They all get a happy ending because I’m done with the sad shit. Also happy endings are good?? Like give me more happy endings dammit! They go through so much shit and get tested so much, like, they deserve their happy ending.
Bits and Bobs
18. What is the theme?
You are stronger than you think. Let yourself be flawed. Things might not be okay, but they will work out. You have a place in the universe, no matter how small. Tomorrow is a new day.
19. What is a reoccurring symbol?
Darkness, geometry/symmetry, fire (?),static, lots of the names of things have meaning behind them
20. Where is the story set? (Share a description!)
There are two made up planets on which this story takes place. The first planet is Thesan-4. This planet is a desert-like planet. It’s in the Milky Way for sure, but I haven’t exactly figured out where yet. This planet is primarily used for military/astronaut training. At least 40% of the story will take place here. The other planet is an icy, Earth-like planet. I call this planet the Mirror World in my head but the actual name is pending. Here is where the remains of early civilization are found and this is where the Perseus crew is assign for their mission. At least 60% of the story will take place here.
21. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?
Hell yeah! Scenes and a general outline are all I have right now. A lot of the little details are still pretty vague though.
22. What excited you about this story?
Oh man, is “everything” an answer? I always wanted to write a story set in space, but my biggest issue was finding a good plot. Like, I had the characters and I had some vague idea of a setting, but no actual plot or conflict. This story spent a lot of time on the back burner and I honestly thought about abandoning it a few times. However, it has come to grow so much and I’m really happy I didn’t abandon it. I love the lore behind the antagonist and the character interactions and uhhh well damn. Everything!
23. Tell us about your usual writing method!
I think the very first thing I come up with is either the setting or the characters. Then, I make the characters that I feel would go best with the setting or vice versa. Other details like names and stuff come way later. 99% of my writing process is music. If I need a certain mood for a scene, I’ll put on some music that fits and I’ll listen to it a few times before actually writing. I find that this helps me come up with scenes so I don’t really struggle at that. Putting them down on paper is harder lol, especially when I can see at least three different ways to write the opening. But once I start writing, everything flows much easier.

rant post cause I’m in a Mood
so my family life has been pretty rocky lately, because in the last few months everyone in my family kinda simultaneously decided to stop dealing with my moms manipulative bullshit. My mom collects animals she has a farm but to her the animals are nice things to look at, she doesn’t take care of them. and I mean, I get it, she has been mentailly ill my entire life (i’ve been mentally ill too but that is a whole ‘nother rodeo) and in the last year or two she has become physically disabled as well. None of that is her fault, but with in that two year time span she has added more animals than I can count. And not easy to take of animals either (as if that could excuse the sheer amount of animals we have in our house) we live on a good sized piece of land, nothing to brag about but it’s nice. it’s not nearly enough room for the animals we have.
we have (from the top of my head) 7 dogs, 6 cats (5 of which are indoor 100% and the other one we got feral and loses his shit indoors but i dont want that discourse rn), 2 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 3 lizards (2 bearded dragons, and a savanna monitor), 2 eclectus parrots (notoriously hard to take care of birds that over half the family refuses to go near because we’ve been bitten so many times), 2 cockatiels, a hamster, 2 pot belly pigs, 3 pygmy goats, over 30 ducks and chickens, 2 canadian geese (the female has angel wing so legally we were allowed to keep her, and her male partner refuses to leave her, it’s endearing actually), 2 alpacas, and 5 small tortoises. now not all of these animals have been added during the past two years, but all of the farm animals, several of the dogs, all of the reptiles, and all of the birds have been added.
now i wouldn’t be able to complain if this was self sustaining, but it isn’t. my stepdad (an angel bless his heart) has taken care of ALL OF THE ANIMALS since as long as he has been around. Now it wasn’t this bad (but still pretty bad) when it was just cats, dogs, rabbits, and fish, and we had some smaller birds that were easier to care for before (though in my opinion none of these animals have been living their best lives) we cold balance it with everyone doing a little to help.
My entire family, but especially my stepdad have been asking my mom not to add any more animals for years, and my stepdad recently put his foot down and said he won’t take care of the farm animals anymore and they need to cut down and stop adding. so what does my mom do? she gets ANOTHER DOG and a BIRD. my mom’s brother (who’s well known for being emotionally and physically abusive) has been living with us for the past few months (on my mom’s invitation, everyone is so sick of him and all hes does is sleep in till 2 in our living room) has been taking care of the farm. He has been enabling my mom’s behavior since he moved in and despite every other person she trusts saying the same things over and over, she takes my uncle’s word and support because he says what she wants to hear.
now this isn’t even touching on the emotional manipulation she’s been doing (saying out of the blue my stepdad was going to divorce her, but my stepdad never even knew divorce was where they were at, in a car ride while sobbing and driving me and my siblings which includes the 5 year old he has with her) (she also said me 18 at the time (lesbian among other things) and my 13 year old brother (trans and gay among other things) were oppressing her). she’s also been starting fights and then when we trying to stand up for ourselves, it becomes a screaming match where she does all the screaming and you get to agree with her, or she storms off angrily. She tries to deny my brother’s transness saying that she is “so glad [name redacted] isn’t all the way trans” and that he should “try embracing genderfluid as an identity” then outs him on facebook to “prove her support.” She also says that me going to college is a finical burden on “The Family.” MY tuition is paid by the state, and my father, his parents, my mother’s father, and I all pay $400 a month to my rent and other living expenses. They do this willingly and the only person who mentions it is my mother, who hasn’t contributed to my finances beside over a year ago going in half on a down payment with my dad and paying to feed me when I visit home.
meanwhile my dad pays her mortgage (she says its child support for me and my brother but I’m 19 and she’s still demanding the same amount of money) (This is a whole different can of worms that I am not going to get into right now), and she borrows money from my grandparents, my stepdad’s brothers, and various other family members. Then it becomes a pity party about how “we are so poor we are living in squalor and the house is falling apart” we spend THOUSANDS of dollars in a month taking care of the animals, and she has been neglecting her own health and then blaming her worsening condition on others (again this is a separate but related issue)
Her household consists of her, my stepdad, my stepdad’s younger brother, my stepdad’s mom, my mom’s brother, my younger brother, and my 5 year old half sister. how, with that many people (most of which have been working until very recently) are you unable to afford the basic cost of living (Hint: it starts with a- and ends in -nimals)
A month or two ago, when disagreements were high in the family, my mom asked me if she was manipulative and abusive. to which I crafted a very long list of things she did that came off to me as manipulative and/or abusive. She then proceeded to tell me half of those things never happened and the other half happened in a completely different way. Which, fair, it’s her point of view and maybe she honestly doesn’t remember. However, she then accused my father of gaslighting and manipulating the entire family (from me and my brother, to my stepmom, to my stepdad, to my cousins in Colorado, to my brother’s therapist). this blew my mind because in the same email she said none of my memories were correct, she said she would never gaslight me like “he does”. Now I’m a history major not an English major, but I’m pretty solid on my understanding of the word gaslighting. and like idk but your behavior stands out more to me than anything my father’s done.
Anyway this post is too long and im already giving Too Much Information, but I’m sad and angry, and my family has heard this to death and none of the therapists i’ve tried setting up appointments with have gotten back to me so this is my last resort.
too anyone that got here, first of all why, second if all if you know me in real life just pretend this post doesn’t exist
#mine#personal#rant post#long post#gaslighting#manipulation#mom#family#someone come and kill me please but not really cause then my brother will kill himself and i love him too much to do that#transphobia

About Me (if anyone cares)
29.
FL >>> AR
Lesbian. Came out Summer 2016 at 23 years old! Been in a committed relationship since 01/23/2017, she is my absolute soul mate & puts up with me & my craziness for whatever reason. She never judges me when I get emotional. She supports my incessant need to constantly move our furniture around. I really don't know if I would be alive today without her.
I am American, Canadian, and Ukrainian. 5'4. Blind as a bat. Change my hair color probably too much. Hate my body. I lovingly call myself Tit Bag on the account that I can cry at the drop of a hat. One of my skills.
I was diagnosed with anxiety & depression at 15 after my mother suddenly died. She was an alcoholic & pretty much killed herself on accident. She was trying to get sober, so she gets brownie points for that. Sometimes I find that I'm still mad at her for leaving me, but I understand what addiction does to people and rein my crazy back in.
My mental health was pretty decent & life was good, that is, until my dad passed away suddenly in October 2020. He was an unhealthy person who didn't really care about himself. He was also very affected by my mother passing & I hadn't lived at home for almost 7 years. I blame myself sometimes because maybe if I lived closer, he wouldn't have let himself go like he did.
It's really difficult losing both parents before you're 30. I have some really bad days where I don't know how I'll continue but then I remind myself that they wouldn't want me moping around. They would want me living my life for them in their memory.
I'm just a very broken human. I'm okay with that too. Not everyone can be all smiles all the time.

Verifying a list of “hateful feminist quotes”. (From S to Z + groups and anonymous individuals)
Final part of my rebuttal at all those lists that are supposed to show how feminism is evil, but in practice shows how anti-feminists rely on an extremely inaccurate (and, in some parts, deliberately lying) list.
"Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated."
Margaret Sanger
False.
"The most merciful thing a family can do to one of its infant members is to kill it."
Margaret Sanger, founder of planned parenthood
True, but extremely edited; not hateful. I’ve bolded the parts that anti-feminists didn't bother to include in the list:
"Thus we see that the second and third children have a very good chance to live through the first year. Children arriving later have less and less chance, until the twelfth has hardly any chance at all to live twelve months."
"This does not complete the case, however, for those who care to go farther into the subject will find that many of those who live for a year die before they reach the age of five."
"Many, perhaps, will think it idle to go farther in demonstrating the immorality of large families, but since there is still an abundance of proof at hand, it may be offered for the sake of those who find difficulty in adjusting old-fashioned ideas to the facts. The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it. The same factors which create the terrible infant mortality rate, and which swell the death rate of children between the ages of one and five, operate even more extensively to lower the health rate of the surviving members."
(Yeah, anti-feminists cut out a LOT.)
Also: she was talking about using birth control to deal with unwanted pregnancies. Not about using infanticide to kill already-born children.
“I do want to be able to explain to a 9-year-old boy in terms he will understand why I think it’s OK for girls to wear shirts that revel in their superiority over boys.”
– Treena Shapiro
Unverifiable.
“In general, I support a girl’s right to offend any member of the opposite sex who happens to cross her path. In fact, I’d much rather see a little girl wearing a shirt that mocks boys than one that turns them on.”
– Treena Shapiro
Also unverifiable. In fact, I think it's not even hateful at all: it points out a double standard where there's a lot of men's shirts that mock women, while a lot of women's shirt are designed to look "seductive" to men - and the reverse doesn't happen.
(Small diversion: while I tried to look for this quote's source, I found this ebook. The 2-3 pages I read sound like a book version of these "List of hateful feminist quotes" lists.)
[insert literally any quote from the SCUM Manifesto]
Valerie Solanas
I won't give a different rating to each individual quote, given how these kinds of lists tend to have many, many, so fucking many quotes from Solanas. I'll only give a general rating.
Usually, in these "hateful feminist quotes" lists, all of the Solanas quotes are true and hateful, and come from the SCUM (Society for Cutting Up Men) manifesto she wrote in 1967. However, I’m doubtful that they count as “quote by a famous feminist”, considering that:
SCUM was never founded - it stopped at its manifesto;
Feminists’ opinion of SCUM at the time was divided between “What is wrong with you, Valerie?” and “This is satire in really bad taste”;
Feminists’ opinion of SCUM today is divided between “What is wrong with you, Valerie?” and “Who the hell is Valerie Solanas?”;
Absolutely nobody, feminist or not, condoned Solanas’ attack on Andy Warhol; and
Solanas's attack on Warhol wasn't motivated by her feminist beliefs.
“We are, as a sex, infinitely superior to men.”
– Elizabeth Cady Stanton
True, possibly hateful. But I want to point out something: this quote is from 1890. This is what anti-feminists believe modern feminism to be? Really? Haven’t they heard of how feminism isn’t a monolith, how there have been various discussions, schisms and revolutions during feminism's history, how there’s a lot of positions and criticism - oh, right, I forgot, feminism is evil and has always been the same since the dawn of time, duh. (# sarcasm)
“The more famous and powerful I get the more power I have to hurt men.”
- Sharon Stone; Actress
Almost 100% false. It also seems that Sharon either wasn’t a feminist during those years, or chose to not display her feminist beliefs back then. In either case, Sharon Stone cannot be considered a significantly important feminist by any stretch of the word.
"If the classroom situation is very heteropatriarchal--a large beginning class of 50 to 60 students, say, with few feminist students--I am likely to define my task as largely one of recruitment...of persuading students that women are oppressed,"
Professor Joyce Trebilcot of Washington University, as quoted in Who Stole Feminism: How Women Have Betrayed Women.
Hm, this is an interesting one.
It’s unverifiable. Yes, AGAIN. No, it doesn’t count that it’s (supposedly) in Christina Sommers’ book “Who Stole Feminism” - she still needs to source the quote. As far as I can tell, Sommers mught've just made that quote up and falsely attributed it to Trebilcot.
Not only that, but the quote looks like it has been truncated. Considering the level of this list, I’m quite suspicious every time I see some ellypsis.
By the way: Sommers? Really?
“Men are animals. Don’t you think so?”
– Ireen von Wachenfeldt, radical feminist leader in Sweden
True and hateful, apparently (given that she quoted SOOOLAAANAAASS). Here's the link to the Wikipedia page on her - you'll have to run it on Google Translate or similar, though.
On another note: of all the quotes in anti-feminists' lists of "hateful feminist quotes" that are actually hateful quotes, it's noticeable how many of those come from Solanas alone. It’s almost as if anti-feminists focus excessively on her, and use her as the base that forms their opinion of all feminists.
I wondered if the woman married to a pig had read this ... Did that mean that all over the globe, in all innocence, women were marrying beasts? ... Why are so many men really beasts? "
Jeanette Winterson "Oranges are Not the Only Fruit" 1993, pp.71 -76
Fictional. The novel is about a lesbian girl growing up in a Pentecostal community. At one point, various religious people from that same community take the main character and her girlfriend, and subject them to exorcism.
In response to a question concerning China’s policy of compulsory abortion after the first child, Molly Yard responded, “I consider the Chinese government’s policy among the most intelligent in the world”
(Gary Bauer, “Abetting Coercion in China,” The Washington Times, Oct. 10, 1989).
Unverifiable. There is no trace of the quote in the "Washington Times", but I think that I found the original source: the American Life League, an evidently anti-abortion group. You'll forgive me if I treat that source with all the respect it deserves.
...
We aren't done yet, though! Here's some more quotes from organizations or unknown individuals!
"We are taught, encouraged, moulded by and lulled into accepting a range of false notions about the family. As a source of some of our most profound experiences, it continues to be such an integral part of our emotional lives that it appears beyond criticism. Yet hiding from the truth of family life leaves women and children vulnerable."
Canadian Panel on Violence Against Women.
Unverifiable and not hateful. It sounds like they’re talking about how a lot of assumptions and myths about “proper” families have lead women to believe that abuse is a “normal” part of a relationship.
MALE: represents a variant of or deviation from the category of female. The first males were mutants...the male sex represents a degeneration and deformity of the female.
MAN: an obsolete life form... an ordinary creature who needs to be watched...a contradictory baby-man...
TESTOSTERONE POISONING: ... ‘Until now it has been though that the level of testosterone in men is normal simply because they have it. But if you consider how abnormal their behavior is, then you are led to the hypothesis that almost all men are suffering from "testosterone poisoning."
From 'A Feminist Dictionary; ed. Kramarae & Triechler, Pandora Press, 1985
Unverifiable. The book DOES exist. What does NOT exist, is scans of it. Nor are there extensive citations of it - the only ones around are the same ones anti-feminists uses, same ellipsis and all. And, frankly, whoever first wrote this list has done such a sloppy job fact-checking this list that, by this point, I don’t trust them if they said that the sky is blue.
"Women have their faults- men have only two: everything they say and everything they do."
Popular Feminist Graffiti
Goddammit. Yet ANOTHER joke from a collection of jokes. No indication whatsoever this was from a feminist.
"Men, as a group, tend to be abusive, either verbally, sexually or emotionally. There are always the exceptions, but they are few and far between (I am married to one of them). There are different levels of violence and abuse and individual men buy into this system by varying degrees. But the male power structure always remains intact."
Message on FEMISA, responding to a request for arguments that men are unnecessary for a child to grow into mature adulthood.
Oh, now you’re just grasping at straws - misattributed. This quote is not from the FEMISA staff; it's from an e-mail sent to FEMISA. Come on - I thought this was a list of hateful quotes from *relevant* feminists - not from any random anon down the street!
"Clearly you are not yet a free-thinking feminist but rather one of those women who bounce off the male-dominated, male-controlled social structures. Who cares how men feel or what they do or whether they suffer? They have had over 2000 years to dominate and made a complete hash of it. Now it is our turn. My only comment to men is, if you don't like it, bad luck - and if you get in my way I'll run you down."
Letter to the editor, signed: "Liberated Women", Boronia Herald-Sun, Melbourne, Australia - 9 February 1996
Unverifiable. Once again, the only places where this quote pops up are lists of “hateful feminist quotes”. And judging by the quality of this list, that isn’t nearly enough.
“The simple fact is that every woman must be willing to be identified as a lesbian to be fully feminist”
(National NOW Times, January, 1988).
Unverifiable (supposedly written in 1988). There’s a lot of citations for this particular quote (many from copies of this list), but no image of the original.
“We identify the agents of our oppression as men…….ALL MEN HAVE OPPRESSED WOMEN…..We do not need to change ourselves, but to change men……The most slanderous evasion of all is that women can oppress men.”
–The Redstockings Manifesto
True, but out of context. Once again, anti-feminists have deliberately cut out various parts of the original manifesto. Here's the full quote (the bolded parts are the ones anti-feminists cut out):
"III We identify the agents of our oppression as men. Male supremacy is the oldest, most basic form of domination. All other forms of exploitation and oppression (racism, capitalism, imperialism, etc.) are extensions of male supremacy: men dominate women, a few men dominate the rest. All power structures throughout history have been male-dominated and male-oriented. Men have controlled all political, economic and cultural institutions and backed up this control with physical force. They have used their power to keep women in an inferior position. All men receive economic, sexual, and psychological benefits from male supremacy. All men have oppressed women."
"IV Attempts have been made to shift the burden of responsibility from men to institutions or to women themselves. We condemn these arguments as evasions. Institutions alone do not oppress; they are merely tools of the oppressor. To blame institutions implies that men and women are equally victimized, obscures the fact that men benefit from the subordination of women, and gives men the excuse that they are forced to be oppressors. On the contrary, any man is free to renounce his superior position, provided that he is willing to be treated like a woman by other men."
"We also reject the idea that women consent to or are to blame for their own oppression. Women's submission is not the result of brain-washing, stupidity or mental illness but of continual, daily pressure from men. We do not need to change ourselves, but to change men."
"The most slanderous evasion of all is that women can oppress men. The basis for this illusion is the isolation of individual relationships from their political context and the tendency of men to see any legitimate challenge to their privileges as persecution."
So, to sum it up:
Systemic sexism is caused by men.
All men benefit from this oppressive system.
Various people have tried to shift the blame for systemic sexism on "the institutions", which wrongly implies that both men and women are equally affected by sexism, and that men have no choice but to act as oppressors.
Various people have also tried to shift the blame on women, falsely claiming that sexism exists because women deliberately "consent" to be subjected to sexism.
Various people fail to see sexism as a systemic problem; instead, they wrongly paint it as a collection of individual acts that have no relation with each other.
When an oppressive system is challenged, the privileged group does not see that as "the dismantling of an unjust system"; instead, it sees that as "unjust persecution, and an attempt to upturn equality".
This is pretty accurate, and isn't hateful.
“We regard our personal experience, and our FEELINGS about that experience, as the basis for an analysis of our common situation. We cannot rely on existing ideologies as they are all the products of male supremicist culture.”
– The Redstockings Manifesto
True, but not hateful. Oh, no, feminists dare to talk about all their personal experiences about sexism and how they feel about it; and they also dare to reject existing sexist explanations of why sexist gender roles are just "natural". How dare they.
Also, why is "feelings" in all-caps like that? Is this the usual jab that women are emotional and therefore "inferior" to the logical men? Because that jab is shit.
FMS stands for: Full of Mostly (Bull) shit; For More Sadism; Felons, Murdereres, Ssumballs; Frequent Molesters Society
From a February 1995 handout at the "Stone Angels" satanic ritual abuse conference in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The conference was supported financially by the Ontario Government
Unverifiable. And frankly too ridiculous to be true.
"All men are good for is fucking, and running over with a truck".
Statement made by A University of Maine Feminist Administrator, quoted by Richard Dinsmore, who brought a successful civil suit against the University in the amount of a $600,000.1995 settlement Richard had protested the quote; was dismissed thereafter on the grounds of harassment; and responded by bringing suit against the University..
Unverifiable. It IS true that Dinsmore sued the university due to, in his own words, “man-hating feminists”; HOWEVER, there’s no mention of the quote itself.
"Masculine sexuality involves the oppression of women, competition among men, and fear of homosexuality." "Rape is the end logic of masculine sexuality." "Male sexuality is negative."
Introductory texts for Women's Studies Courses at UCLA including: "More Power than We Want: Masculine Sexuality and Violence" by
Bruce Kokopeli and George Lakey [Cited in TNV]
Unverifiable.
And that’s it. The VAST MAJORITY of quotes are either not-hateful once we actually see the context (and paste back all the parts that anti-feminists censored behind ellypsis); or, their origin cannot be verified (and therefore we can’t be sure whether they actually came from feminists). Some quotes came from works of fiction and were spoken by fictional characters; they aren’t statements that the author personally made and supported. Of the remaining quotes that are both verified and hateful, a GIANT chunk of them is comprised entirely of Valerie Solanas - which isn’t held in much regard by modern feminists. In fact, I’m pretty sure many don’t even know about her.
