General Info:

Named after the GOAT, one of my favorite fictional men of all time, Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables. In my story, however,his first name comes from a combination of his mother’s father, Gilles, and his father’s name, Robert. It’s supposed to be pronounced the French way, but only his mother and her family do that. 

Born October 25, 187(4?5?) in London

TECHNICALLY pure blood; his mother is magical and his father’s family is, however his father is a squib, so there’s a little bit of ambiguity as to whether he would count as pure blood to SOME people.

Father’s family disowned him for being a squib when he came of age, so he joined the British army as a medic. Eventually met Gilbert’s mother in France, they moved back to London to start his own medical practice and raise Gilbert.

Speaks fluent French thanks to his mother's side of the family.

Because of his ancient magic, he didn’t start showing any magical inclination till he was 14, so when he didn’t start at 7-9 like normal kids, his parents assumed he was a squib like his father.

His parents raised him as a muggle, because they did not want him feeling isolated from the magical community like his father did, or to feel like he was missing out on something amazing. They did not practice magic in the house (at least while Gilbert was awake), and he had no clue about any of it until his own magical awakening.

Attended a muggle Catholic school until 14. His family wasn’t particularly religious, but they did attend church regularly since they lived in the muggle community, and it was the done thing, so he still retains many of those values (though they might conflict with other aspects of his life e.g. his sexuality but we’ll get into that later).

Personality:

ENFJ - Myers Briggs Personality Type

Will tease his friends mercilessly, but can also handle them teasing him back without taking it personally. He just likes to laugh and make people laugh.

Would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it

Sometimes he takes on too much, finds it hard to say ‘no’ to someone who needs his help. As a result he can often be found running around the school/highlands doing favors for anyone he happened to come across, usually at the expense of his own personal needs.

Always knew he liked both boys and girls, something because of his upbringing he was always conflicted about. During those times, liking the same sex was obviously frowned upon/illegal in the muggle world, where Gilbert spent most of his time, so even when he finally realizes his feelings for Sebastian, there is a fair bit of hesitation from Gilbert to be truly open in public, even in the Wizarding community, at least at first. With the support of his friends though, he quickly overcomes this fear.

Physical Description:

Tall, athletically built, takes after his father in that way. Stays fit thanks to his father’s influence from a young age, and his early desire to follow his footsteps and become an army medic (before he developed magical abilities).

His dark brown hair he got from his dad, the curls from his mom.

He looks just like his dad, except he has his mother’s blue-gray eyes instead of his dad’s dark brown.

Freckles across his nose and cheeks, and one on his chin beneath his mouth you have to squint to see sometimes but it’s there (and his creator is obsessed with it lol)

Magic Reveal:

His magical abilities developed later in his childhood/teenage years, as was common for his fellow keepers who bloomed later as well.

One day at the muggle school he attended, he witnessed a close friend being bullied and defended him, getting into a fight with an older classmate. During the fight, when it appeared the bully had the upper hand, he -ancient magic throw style- managed to hit the bully with a chair from across the room.

This brought things to a halt immediately, and his parents were contacted by the school as well as the ministry, who detected the use of underage magic around muggles.

Almost immediately, his parents got in touch with Hogwarts, and they agreed to take him on as a fifth year, and the rest is history.

Likes:

Music - learned to play piano from an early age, attended the opera a lot with his family and developed a great appreciation for the arts. Joins the Hogwarts Choir sixth year when he has a little more free time. 

Food - He is a huge foodie, and is always eating whenever he has the chance. Given that his parents raised him without magic for most of his early life, he learned to cook beside his mother from an early age and enjoys a variety of different foods, but his mothers traditional french meals will always be his favorite.

Magical Creatures - always an animal lover, he jumped at the chance to help Deek capture beasts to keep them safe from poachers in fifth year, and he continued caring for them and volunteering his time helping Professor Howin with Poppy for the remainder of his time at Hogwarts. 

Crochet - learned from his mother. Loves to make hats and scarves for his friends. 

Physical activity - Enjoys swimming in the lake at Hogwarts before it gets too cold. Also taught how to fence by his mother's family and regularly competes with his cousins when he visits.

Dislikes:

Spiders - not scared of them, per se, just doesn’t see a need for them on this earth. Will blast them any chance he gets.

The Dark Arts - never learned an Unforgivable, never saw the need to. Wasn’t fond of Sebastian’s idea to use the relic to help Anne, especially when he read about the ‘dark sacrifice’, but trusted him to know when to stop (lol) and convinced Ominis anyway. Sorely regrets this decision, feels guilty for how it all turned out and vows to never have anything to do with the dark arts again.

Interactions with Other Characters:

Fig - When his parents learned Gilbert actually had magical abilities, they contacted Hogwarts (and Beauxbatons, but his father insisted on Hogwarts), and the school agreed to bring him on as a fifth year, as long as Professor Fig could meet and prepare him as best as he could before the beginning of the school year. Professor Fig had a residence in London that he used in the summer, so he didn’t live too far away from Gilbert, and as a result they trained in Gilbert’s back garden (with permission from the ministry and some anti-muggle charms) nearly every day. Because of this, they developed a close mentor-student relationship, and Gilbert sees him as another father figure. Fig felt the same about him, and even left Gilbert a sizable inheritance as well as his home to have a safe place for his further research into his ancient magic abilities.

Natty - The first friend he made at Hogwarts (I did Charms class first, ok), and they related to each other given that she’d only started at Hogwarts the year before. She fed into his competitive nature, and he admired her dedication to ridding the community of Rookwood and Harlow, and he always fully supported her decisions to pursue them and provided backup because let’s be real Natty was in charge on those missions.

Poppy - Very close to Poppy, given that they are both ‘Puffs and spend a lot of time together in the common room. Things got a little awkward sixth year when it was revealed Poppy had a major crush on him, which he was not sure he reciprocated. They went on one date on Valentine’s day to Hogsmeade, but quickly realized they were better off friends, as he sees her more as the sister he never had. They remain close even after Hogwarts, working together at the ministry to put an end to the poaching of magical creatures.

Ominis - Despite their initial confrontation outside the Undercroft, the whole ordeal with Sebastian and the relic essentially forced them to rely on each other. Gilbert always felt guilty for manipulating Ominis in order to help Sebastian, and that guilt caused him to do anything he could to make it up to him. After fifth year, they spent a great deal more time together NOT worrying what the hell Sebastian was up to. They share a love of music and joined the Hogwarts choir together. 

Sebastian - Oh boy, where to begin? Was always fascinated by Sebatian but didn’t quite understand why (besides the obvious, I mean). Fifth year was far too chaotic to worry about the reason, but he would always literally drop anything else he was doing when the letters from Sebastian arrived (even though toward the end he began to sort of dread them when the relic began to alter Sebastian’s personality, but he still rushed to help out regardless if only to make sure he didn’t get himself into too much trouble). They don't start exploring their feelings for each other for a while, but I don't want to spoil anything so that's all imma say here...

Amit - Gilbert feels bad for traumatizing Amit during their adventures in the mine, so now the only favors he asks of him are to help with his astronomy homework. They remain close, however, bonded by their adventure; Amit talks about it frequently, despite following it up with how he’d never do anything like that ever again. 

Imelda - Really disliked Imelda in the beginning, found her to be horribly conceited, but toward the end of the trials, learned more about why she is the way she is, and grew to understand and like her a lot more, though he still hasn’t forgiven her little squib comment. 

Garreth Weasley - Is always highly amused by Garreth’s antics, and is frequently his guinea pig for testing out new potions/concoctions. He usually always regrets this, yet he signs back up for it any time Garreth comes asking. 

Everyone else - Enjoys flying around with Everett, finds Leander to be a bit stuffy, but generally a nice enough bloke, good friends with Adelaide Oakes and Samanta Dale.

Which Austen Heroine Am I?

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I’m totally and complete obsessed with Jane Austen and her entire canon. My favorite book of hers is “Pride and Prejudice” – I love the characters, the setting, and the whole premise. While it’s a favorite, and I adore Elizabeth Bennet, I am aware that I’m not at all like her. A Buzzfeed quiz said I was, but Buzzfeed’s not exactly scientific. Witty, vivacious, social – nope, that’s not me. Those who know me personally and are familiar with Austen’s books or the movie adaptations, would agree.

I always thought I was more like Elinor Dashwood from “Sense and Sensibility.” She’s the “sense” in the title, as oppose to Marianne who represents the “sensibility.” The eldest of three daughters, when her father dies and she and her mother and sisters are left in reduced circumstances, she has to be the stable one and encourage her remaining family that they must live in a simple and quiet manner in the country. Unlike Marianne, she doesn’t wear her heart on her sleeve, she’s reserved, and she guards her emotions. Elinor falls for Edward Ferrars, who for most of the novel, is engaged to another girl. She must be strong and carry on – in the end she’s rewarded by marrying the man she loves. Okay, so I’m not identical to Elinor, but there are similarities. The story opens with the death of her father…I lost my dad over ten years ago and it turned my world upside down. That plot point especially resonates with me. Like Elinor, I’m reserved, I say the polite things when they’re required, I’m non-confrontational, etc. I have a younger sister who is feistier and bolder than I am. So far, Elinor seems like a match for me.

I decided to take one of those Myer-Briggs personality tests and find out exactly what my type is. According to 16 Personalities, I’m an Advocate (INFJ-T).

Traits: Introverted – 96%, Intuitive – 76%, Feeling – 52%, Judging – 64%, Turbulent – 72% Role: Diplomat Strategy: Constant Improvement

I’m not sure I entirely grasp the whole Myer-Briggs personality thing, but I do find the concept interesting. I thought it could help me in proving or disproving if I’m Elinor Dashwood. Now that I had my personality type, I went over to Charity Bishop’s blog which delves into literary characters and historical figures and their personality types to see what Elinor is. According to it, Elinor is an ISTJ. I’m not Elinor Dashwood.

So which Austen heroine am I?

Fanny Price (from the 1999 adaptation)! Or at least, my personality comes closest to hers. She is an INFP – I’m an INFJ. The heroine of “Mansfield Park” poor Fanny Price is taken from her impoverished birth family and “adopted” by her wealthy uncle and aunt and raised alongside her cousins. But she is always reminded she is not equal to her cousins. She is misused and abused throughout the novel; she’s overlooked, forgotten, and she is very meek. Her frenemy, Mary Crawford often outshines her. Readers have admitted they preferred Mary Crawford to Fanny. Fanny continues to hope though, she keeps the faith, she perseveres and by holding true to her nature and moral center, she finds happiness. I’m not sure how I feel about this comparison – I always viewed myself differently. Then again, we often do view ourselves differently than the world views us. This little discovery does make me want to reread “Mansfield Park” and play closer attention to Fanny Price, who she is and her personality. That’ll probably lead to another rambling blog post.

Jalil Hasni (father) - A pureblood Algerian wizard who works up in the top of international co-operation department left Britain back to Algeria when Juniper was eight. This left Juniper to resent her father for leaving but kept in contact to ensure that her and her mother still had money until she was old enough to earn.

Jacob Hasni-Moss (brother) - Juniper looked up to Jacob who was her biggest role model who refused to believe that Jacob was mad or dead. She pursued the cursed vaults to find her brother who disappeared in the summer of 1981.

This was a hard one but I’m gonna say Riddle after some deliberation.

I think you guys would be tutoring buddies. And managing a gaggle of idiots buddies. He’s just a calm, reliable fella to rely on. Where you are the dad friend, he is the mom friend. Symbiosis.

And everybody always hates on him for being boring and prone to rule following but I just disagree. Dude canonically hangs out with Chenya, the Cheshire Cat. I think he has to know how to have fun too. So when you guys hang with the Heartslabyul gang, whether it be for movie night or an excursion to a concert, it’s kinda fun to watch him unwind. Can you imagine lifting him up on your shoulders to see a band he really likes?? It would be his main character moment

Rhett and Link’s problems with the Enneagram

I have now watched both Enneagram EBs and the second one actually set my gears to work (So Anon here it comes! I promise it was spontaneous).

After listening to Link and mostly Rhett talk about the Enneagram again and again, I realised I have a problem but I can not place its exact root. There is either something fundamentally wrong with the Enneagram itself or maybe it’s Rhett and consequently Link who talk about it in a way that made me feel a little uncomfortable.

My problem and cause of concern was that everything that was said during the two podcasts had a clear negative tone to it. I will have to bring in myself to it to give you an example so bear with me for a paragraph. I did the test and I am a 5 (Investigator - Observer, something like that) which suits me rather well, especially since it agrees perfectly with my Myers-Briggs INTP type. The results said I was a 5w6 (essentially an emotionless analytical robot) which is definitely wrong as I am clearly a 5w4 (a sad mess who analyses the world and searches pointlessly for the true meanings in life and wants to come up with the ultimate all-encompassing philosophy). I mean, OK, they are not described exactly like that but trust me, that’s the point. But despite all the flaws associated with it, especially in the fields of socialising and tremendous procrastination due to an insane fear of failure, I am actually very much in touch with it. I revel in analysing, in trying to see the bigger picture, to make up my own theory about life and the world. It gives me fuel to go on, it fills me with excitement, it gives me a purpose.

Now, what I kept hearing from Rhett and Link are the things they would hope to run away from. I can’t seem to remember a single positive thing they said about their personalities. All traits they mentioned ( which were all pretty one-dimensional for both I dare say) were presented in the context of torturing them and having to confront them. With these insights in their personalities and the spiritual deconstructions earlier, their old (surprising back then) statement that they are “fundamentally sad people” makes more and more sense. Some of their traits, like Link’s care for perfection to the smallest detail and his moral concerns could have been neutral or positive but, no, they are almost all given as clear negatives or at least as things that have an emotional toll on them.

This gives me the impression that Link and especially Rhett have found comfort in studying the Enneagram and try to find an explanation for what they are like, to feel part of a group, represented in their misery. In short, they focus on the analysis of the flaws of their personalities as a part of who they are and avoid dealing with the root that caused said flaws. Link is more self aware while Rhett still struggles to reach the root of it, which is his childhood. Not that he doesn’t know it but he can’t just deal with the people and the situations that impacted him enough to make him a three. For instance, Rhett seems to believe that he is a natural three that his parents made manifest even more strongly. It could be the case or the threeness we observe in him is the direct product of his parents’ constant judgement. By keeping chanting he needs to “be” instead of “do”, I am not sure Rhett will achieve much. Honestly, the one impactful step he needs to take is to stop caring about what his father thinks and I am sorry to say he is still not near achieving this. Especially when I take into account how scared he was during his videocall with his dad in GMM and how relieved he looked after the call was over without drama. In short, my problem with their take in the Enneagram is that it seems that Three is Rhett’s pack of unresolved issues rather than his complete personality type.

Furthermore, Rhett speaks knowingly about all numbers / personality types which proves he consumes passionately all Enneagram information that is available. For a man of his level of active lifestyle, hectic schedule and impatience, this shows that he indeed seeks comfort in finding a detailed description and an explanation for his personality, for the way he feels and acts. What does this mean? Well, that he does not like the way he feels about himself a lot. Not only that, but he is actually in a search of self. At this point, he is no longer cryptic about it but it is more serious than he lets on. He tries to make sense of himself and he tries desperately to find something in himself to love. I hope there are people in his life who let him know that he is worthy of their love, friendship and appreciation even though he is so deep inside his head that even the affectionate feedback can only help so much. Rhett will start finding some peace only if he takes the one step I mentioned above.

And then it seems that Link’s personality type is also exclusively a byproduct of his childhood and is aggravated by his relationship with Rhett. Link’s perfectionism doesn’t cause him enthusiasm - he just dreads the disturbance of his supposedly perfectly stable world. In all honesty, Link doesn’t strike me as an ambitious person. Link would just love to have his dear routine and a loyal person to share it with. Link needs stability and companionship. He is fine with just one person as long as this person contributes to the stability of their bond. Who that one person is in Link’s life is another story…

Link doesn’t care that much about the creative process and, frankly, he doesn’t care all that much about the comedy. Link cares to keep the environment Rhett and he work stable and safe. For Link, judgement from the audience is not as alarming as Rhett’s frustration because of it. Link cares to ensure that Rhett’s idea will be successful enough to keep working and to keep working together. So Link’s entire self-identification as a one seems to stem from his fear of abandonment and worthlessness only. Link fears he has not much to contribute to Mythical and he tries to counteract that by becoming the ultimate source of management and control. Because if he didn’t even manage the company, then what would Rhett need him for? Hence, Link’s obsession for control is a consequence of his fear, he doesn’t necessarily love to be in control for the sake of it. This is proven by his plane example, which shows that he finally relaxes when he does NOT need to be in control.

Link has been working hard most of his life to ensure his position next to Rhett. This brings even more insight in his resentment for Rhett that explodes from time to time. Link resents Rhett because he tries so hard to be always by his side but due to Rhett’s opportunitism, he can’t tell whether Rhett wants his companionship or he simply needs it for their brand. Even worse, Link dreads that the reason Rhett is his friend is because Link feeds his ego with his loyalty and admiration, because he takes Link for granted and not because he loves Link for who he is.

“Do you care for me or do you revel in the fact that I care for you?”

Now, I can’t get inside Rhett’s head but I doubt he uses people. I believe his genuine care for Link can be found in the weirdest examples - those from which Rhett has nothing to gain i.e getting frustrated when Link doesn’t enjoy food as much. Yes, this is a sign of love. Rhett enjoys food so much that he wants to share that enjoyment with Link. He can’t realise Link’s tongue works differently - he thinks Link is missing out and it frustrates him. Another silly example is Rhett buying Apocalypse equipment for a clearly disinterested Link and probably never getting its money’s worth back. This is important to Rhett for some reason and he is concerned enough to protect careless Link as well despite having no personal gain from it.

The truth is that these two men feed off each other; Rhett keeps Link attached to him to always feel worthy and Link keeps Rhett attached to him to always feel safe. However, the fact that Rhett is almost his entire source of safety and that Link is Rhett’s biggest calibrator of worth is indicative of the levels of love and need. Nevertheless, Rhett and Link are not independent people. They were constantly in search of support from one another and they lost themselves in the process of satisfying others or being safe. This is something they are realising only now.

Link’s fear of abandonment is so big that it frequently leads him to an almost paranoid behaviour. It is crazy that he felt left out when Rhett communicated with the audience during a podcast whose key purpose is to… communicate with the audience. His fear here has two sides: 1) that Rhett didn’t consider him an equally important business partner so he preferred to speak directly to the audience and 2) that Rhett isn’t emotionally invested in him in order to open up to him. And by saying he can deceive people if he needs, Rhett doesn’t help Link overcome his huge insecurities. This is why Link begs Rhett to talk to him about his feelings more. He does not understand whether Rhett loves him or uses him. The notion that Rhett doesn’t truly love or appreciate him is one of his biggest fears in life.

As for Rhett, it is certainly huge growth that he starts opening up and being vulnerable to a few thousand strangers yet it all still derives from his need to be accepted by said strangers as I am afraid that the late disproportionate criticism he gets for silly stuff on Twitter and Tumblr surely don’t help him deal with his issues, no matter how hard he tries. Therefore, Rhett is trapped in a vicious circle. Besides, Rhett was overly sensitive to be hurt when Link stated the obvious; that he was being vulnerable in hopes to be understood and accepted, because that was clearly what Rhett was openly doing. However, having someone discussing openly his vulnerability immediately made Rhett retreat back to his shell because no matter how hard he tries, Rhett hasn’t managed to separate vulnerability from weakness in his mind yet.

Long story short, Rhett and Link might be Three and One respectively but I am not sure they have a good understanding of themselves anyway. They may have figured out their types correctly but they certainly narrow their entire sense of being to their unresolved issues and phobias. They entirely lack a sense of self-worth and they probably have not realised the extent of the traumas in their youth. In the Enneagram language, the nine personality types have nine levels of development. I believe Rhett and Link are either in the average levels or the mildest unhealthy level. They are certainly not in the healthy top three levels.

Their obsession with the Ennegram helps only superficially but they seem to have based an illogically huge part of their self exploration on it. The Enneagram might offer some insight but won’t offer the resolutions they long for and badly need in order to find some relief. The ones that come when you confront your environment instead of overanalysing yourself and beating yourself up because of it.

Myers-briggs: I had INFJ when I took this in vet school, but I just took it again and got INFP this time, which is very high in terms of creativity.  No surprises there :)  Maybe I got INFJ last time as vet school was the most analytical and least creative time of my life.

Favorite animal: I love dogs and exotic animals, but I am a cat person at heart.  Other favorite animals include ferrets, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, green herons, and red river hogs.  I’m a vet. I’m not gonna say just one.

Cats or dogs: Cats.  My first word was “cat” and my first phrase was “kitty cat.”  I laughed like a maniac when I saw my baby book as an older kid and realized I was more interested in the cats than Mom and Dad, apparently.

Blankets you sleep with: One with my husband because he’s a space heater, sometimes two or three when we’re apart.

Reason for url: Vet school squashed my ability to be in fandom for several years.  I thought maybe I’d outgrown it since I no longer loved X-Files/Buffy/Harry Potter as deeply as I had before.  When I started getting back into fandom again, I finally realized that fandoms are cyclical and evolving and I was never going to be FULLY obsessed with the same fandom for 5 or 10 or 20 years.  So I went with fanfoolishness because I do get silly and foolish with my fandoms, but I also accept that my fandom makeup will change through the years.

Hopes for the future: For the world? Effective COVID-19 treatment and vaccination, and widespread social evolution and change to improve safety nets for everyone (based on the problems that are being exacerbated by COVID).  For me: some day it would be nice to own a house. I have over $400,000 in student loan debt (yes, it’s that many zeroes) but hopefully my husband and I will buy a house someday... will probably have to leave Los Angeles to do it, though.

When and why i made this blog: I made this blog in 2009 when I realized that the blog I had signed up with this site with, @veterinaryrambles, should really just focus on veterinary medicine instead of the fandom stuff I was finally starting to get into again.  Initially it mostly held X-Men First Class Charles/Erik slash, but as I suspected, my fandoms evolved with time, so I was glad I hadn’t named myself cherikmaniac42 or something.  However, it means I’m stuck with the annoying side effect that veterinaryrambles is my main, so fandom people never know when I’m following or liking their posts since the likes/follows don’t show up as fanfoolishness.  ANNOYING. I did not foresee that.

Melvin and the Silent Diagnosis for a Brilliantly Broken Psyche

Hypothetical Diagnosis Insecurity masked with narcissistic tendencies characterized with compulsive obsessions driven by blatant autism, and no that is not an immature insult I test extremely highly for Asperger's myself Here's the Evidence: (I will state before hand that Melvin-borg is a completely separate character in my mind, and thus will not be included in this particular theory.  Melvin decided not to turn out like him, so they are canonically separate characters) He is obviously and frequently inspired by George and Harold, but his deeply embedded fear of rejection makes him dangerously bitter, and it doesn't help that everytime he breaks out of this protective shell, he is rejected or betrayed once again. It’s important to note that while he may be high-functioning (aka: Aspergers) he is still Autistic. That’s because Asperger’s is not a form of autism- it is autism. Period. And any kind of autism or mental attypicality left untreated can develop in to many, many other severe mental disorders, or, in general, make life a metric heck ton harder and complicated than it already is. I also need to confess that I test highly positively for autism myself as well as being an INTP female (Myers-Briggs Personality Test). Not to brag, but all that combined with my naturally creative nature makes me rare af, but it also means I can't communicate or handle stress #liketheothergirls, so that has lead me to being/feeling bullied and ostracized.  I also have anxiety and depression issue which run in my family, and mild insomnia, and may or may not be relapsing into an eating disorder. Paired with psychical problems like acid reflux and severe neck tension, health, whether psychical or mental is of uttermost importance to me.  It suffices to say, autism is not easy to deal with and if not taken care for properly a person, especially if not made at least aware of what autism truly is, it can truly ruin their life. Combined with the neglectful nature of his parents (at least in the books) I and many others in this fandom truly believe Melvin is at least autistically coded. Not only does this fit the archetype of his character but it also fits the theme of the books to a TEE. At its core, CU, of all things, is a children's book series, about living your best life despite not being “normal.” Even characters like the teachers or Mr Krupp who strive for “normality” are shown to actually have deeply repressed creativity, or, in some cases, deep trauma from their own childhoods. It suffices to say that I resonate deeply with Melvin. Say what you want about him or me, I was able to relate to him the second he spoke his first line in the second book. Sorry to turn this into a long vent, but I feel it is best to use myself to support this theory as well as harder evidence, even if it is mostly a means of self-therapy. To start, we both are obsessed with school even to a detrimental degree. Ever since head-start (Pre-K but a million times better), these "book-smarts" were the first thing I ever truly excelled at. When the other kids bullied (or as I now know as teasing) me, I would lose myself in a stack of homework or a book 2-3 grades past my grade level (this is before I drew or wrote as a main hobby). Similarly, Melvin is rarely seen without a book or gadget, just like me. We both over analyze things and hide our feelings. We both have intense crushes on others but are terrified to dare express them, or do but to nothing but awkwardness. We were both science kids, and fascinated by words and/or numbers alone (I still am just in a more artistic way). We both struggle to communicate and relate to others. We both have a unusual sense of humor and are highly observant of surroundings all the while missing what’s in front of our noses. We both have interests that quickly spiral into obsessions and dropping the obsession only when sick of it. We both practice similar forms of stimming. We both not only thrive but crave control and structure with the world around us, even to the point of being "control freaks" and creating odd habits, routines, and rituals regardless of whether they are necessary or make sense. We both have an intense fear of intimacy and rejection to the point of practicing self-isolation and in some cases self harm or other unhealthy coping methods (seen with Melvin over eating sweets or over working himself. For me it’s disordered eating or self flagellation, something I have all but completely dropped but still) We also both tend to see ourselves as inferior to others and attempt to mask those feelings with a superiority complex (I feel bad for my siblings but I didn’t know what I was doing, and no it was not abusive just sibling rivalry and I’m the oldest anyway, and we are country kids and understand “rough-housing” =/= using each other as a punching bag, but accidents happen I'm sorry) We both seem to become easily overstimulated and have explosive mental and emotional breakdowns when things just . . . become too much However the harsh divide between male and female and fictional and nonfictional means we both present certain traits differently. Whereas he presents a more linear line of thinking my mind is overwhelmingly sporadic. Also, I have over sensitivities to touch and light (and sometimes certain noises, but not anything not normal? Wfk.) But maybe he does have oversensitivity but I can't think of an example off the top of my head. Enough about me however. I know Melvin and autism has been done to death.  Hell, I just did it to death.  My actual theory is more on the inner mechanisms of his mind and predicting how he will develop should the series allow for full character development. Also, similar to my Krupp theory, I will be listing his crimes out and give him a proper sentence for his age and maturity level (which will be light as I am sympathetic to his plight).   This is already getting too long, so Imma try to finally get to the point.  Characters with autism are honestly a mixed bag, sometimes there as standardized as my mystery Daddy Sherlock Holmes and other times they are as subtle as Pearl or Peridot from Steven Universe (has Rebbaca Sugar confirmed this? sorry). Honestly, it does distress me that autism is almost always used to have an evil genius character or some weird side character for brownie/ diversity points. (this makes me a bit hypocritical I guess, considering my own stories. I guess tropes are tropes for a reason) And while Dav Pilky May not be subtle with his scholastic politics or humor his one spectacular tool in his writing books has always been, when it comes to his characters, showing instead of telling. This is something I latched on to even as a kid, and I was already thinking up theories on the characters before I even knew character theories were a thing.  Like what happened to Harold's Dad (hint, hint).  Why was Harold's sister rarely used?  Does Mr Krupp actually like their comics (a now accepted theory, but not just min? And many many others I'm probably never gonna write.  It took until how long in the books to reveal George and Harold have ADHD? Before that they were simply described as being as smart as Melvin but just in different ways. Personally I feel that autism is inverted ADHD. This is an opinion I’ve recently formed so if I’m wrong bloody attack me in the comments. Anyway, Melvin presenting autism makes him the perfect foil to George and Harolds’ more sporadic antics. The only true difference between autistic folks and ADHD folks is that those with autism tend to crave a structured environment full of rules, and set goals to achieve, while such an environment is HELL to children with ADHD (aka:George and Harold). (Even though if with adults they can trust, children with ADHD thrive in structured environments if they are surrounded by adults or authority figures they can trust.)  I know some will tell me ADHD is on the spectrum, but I just learned this like actually the other day and don’t fully understand it.  My prediction is that Melvin will eventually and naturally mellow out if just because staying so high strung all the time is a huge waste of mental energy.  I know good as hell I had to.  Also, he mellowed our in the books and went from a screeching revenge exacting lil narcissistic white boi prick to a person who simply wants to pursue his interests and even helping George and Harold (selfishly, but help nonetheless). He even went from enjoying the fame and attention of hero-ing to realizing it did not fufill him. Indeed quite the opposite.  His true passion lay in solving world problems through science, and I don't think the ending for him in the books could have been any more perfect considering his character.   In the Netflix show, similar to how I think Krupp's personalities are merging, I believe that Melvin will eventually become more like his Broski alter ego (which I calmly demand more of).  Overall, given that this show needs to go back to the status quo more often than not, I don't think his core character will ever change, and it doesn't need to.  Multiple times throughout the series he's been shown to crave friendship from George and Harold, despite audibly hating him . Textbook Tsundere, I know.  He will form a friendly rivalry with George and Harold, I have almost no doubt about that, taking the season 1 finale, season 2 finale, season 3 first episode, and halloween special into consideration. (Yeah, if someone will send me clips I will give them my eternal gratefulness) To conclude, because by god this is long, Melvin is, SHOCKER, just a little kid.  A little kid who likes muffins and dolls and has big hopes and dreams.  A little kid whose love for science and unrecognized creativity is channeled into making inventions that are even more impressive than those of Professor P (sorry P).  But he is a little kid with his own needs and stuggles which at this point remain unmet.  His parents are canonically neglectful, I cannot repeat that enough times.  The effects of neglect are a hell-hole of its own regardless of growing up with undiagnosed autism.  But that's just a theory- Alright, that was a banger, I guess next up is Melvin-borg since writing this has given me some interesting ideas for him.  Let’s see how long this hyperfocus train will go!

i havent done work in a while bc of the virus and classes becoming online so i finally sat down and wrote down all my assignments due and lectures coming up and read through the instructions and planned out how i’m gunna execute it and emailed my TA on areas i don’t understand so that at no point during this break will i have something due the next day and have anxiety bc idk where to start. also today started with a shit morning bc i went to work only to find out that my shift was cancelled and no one told me and so the cook made me a bacon and caramelized onion omelette and potatoes and i was happy after. also i made a soy latte. and then i took a bus home, got coffee for my dad otw, got yelled at by my parents later, and then isolated myself in my room. i’m rlly not taking shit from anyone today tbh. i also turned off my phone which rlly helps me get shit done. oh and we got groceries yesterday and i saw this recipe on tik tok where they boiled almond milk with natural oats and frozen fruits and i wanted to try that ever since bc it sounds so good so i got all the ingredients except soy instead of almond bc almond milk tastes like cardboard to me. ask me why i’m so obsessed with vegan food (tofu, chick peas, lentils, soy milk) when i’m not even vegan. like i used to hate the idea of being vegan but the food is actually bomb but at the same time i need meat once in a while so i can never fully convert. alsooo i took a myers briggs test today and got infp again which is kinda crazy bc sometime last year i was an enfp?? i think or an enfj but the year before i was an infp so clearly i went thru some identity crisis last year which is usually what happens during my first year of high school / uni like i just become so social and outgoing and then after that i stop giving a shit and just chill with a small group of friends, which btw have been pissing me off and i feel like i rlly dont have any real friends anymore. i did put my pride aside and reach out to some old friends including one that i ended on bad terms with and it was really nice tbh. i find it so hard to like people and idk why. i just feel like i’m meant to be alone in life. that way i wont bother anyone and no one will bother me. but ill have occasional interactions with people every now and then. i have absolutely no problem with being a cat lady and living alone (not lonely though). i feel so much peace when i’m by myself. idk why people hear that and feel bad for me like wow thats so terrible and depressing that you want to be alone all the time like no its not???? its not depressing at all actually and i feel like more ppl need to normalize that concept that being introverted does not equal being lonely and shy. and ppl need to stop trying to teach ppl how to be extroverted. why is that even a thing?? moreover why do people always confuse introversion with shyness and extroversion with being outgoing?? those are completely different things and it would be more understandable why you’d wana help a shy person become more outgoing but thats only because shy people often want a change but u cant take a person who genuinely and (in recent studies show) physiologically prefer being alone and just Make them enjoy parties and social events like u just cant do it. trust me i’ve tried. it all depends on the company and the scenario. going drinking with some close friends wearing pj’s sound soo much more fun that wearing a short dress and drinking at a club. also the weathers been so beautiful lately and i’m so fucking mad at this stupid virus like can u fuck off already. i rlly wanna go out and take walks and ride the train and go to downtown and explore the city by myself ugh. i wanna finish the secret history like i deadass have been reading that shit for a year omfg. i need to clean my room, do my laundry, and then try to get some work done?? then after that i’ll have the night to myself and maybe i can try to read then who knows ok bye

I have a degree in arts management and love to create, though I've spent more time on craft work and less on painting and drawing these last few years. My best friend and I want to open our own dog kennel together one day and run a hobby farm on site. I love growing my own food and can't wait until I have space for livestock. Due to my recent obsession with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, I have taken the MBTI test several times at least. Across the board, I got INTJ with the exception of one ISTJ result at a 54/46 on the sensing. I feel a strong affiliation with the INTJ personality type, but due to its rarity I wonder whether or not I truly am that result or have conditioned my answers in a manner that favours this type. It’s basically my imposter syndrome taking over.

ISTJ vs INTJ - Tell-apart shortcuts 

Oh I get the imposter syndrome, especially since you have been taking the test so many times. Considering the way you write, I think you’re alright with a IXTJ typing, the question now being N or S. 

Keeping in mind there’s no good or bad type and that one of my lifelong and most trusted friends is ISTJ (and we have a lot in common, like our love for literature and general nerdy-ness) I’d like you to think of your most recent project (some problem you liked to solve or some creative idea you wanted to work on). 

What was it about? Was it primarily practical or very abstract? (The difference between improving your work routine so that it’s perfect and masterfully executable VS improving that project your dad talked to you about that time five years ago and probably totally forgot about.)

Were you playing with the what-if’s? Not of your life only but of life on Earth in general, humanity as a whole, or something like that (the difference between “what if I had taken Korean in college - where would I be now?” VS “what if we had all developed from lizards instead of monkeys?”)

Both INTJs and ISTJs want to do things well and care about improvement and execution, but in my experience a lot of the things I end up working on, those interesting but not really applicable daily abilities that INTJs love to learn, seem almost pretty much pointless to my very dear and much more down-to-earth ISTJ friend. 

For example, maybe a dumb one, but my other INTJ friend knows how to pick a simple lock: it’s a practical ability, you might say that you could use if you ever lose your key or something, but it’s not like you need it every day. And she learned because she thought it could be cool to know. I feel like an ISTJ wouldn’t learn something like that - also because they feel it’s illegal. An ISTJ would learn something more usable on a daily basis: how to make a great meal, how to have perfect calligraphy or stuff like that. 

So I’d say learning with a real purpose VS learning with a fake purpose but actually just pleasure.

Ducktales 2017 Myers-Brigg types

I love this stuff, and while real-world applications are limited, applying MB types in fiction is actually very useful! And this stuff I know like the back of my hand. So let's get to each of their types, ey? Man of the hour, Scrooge McDuck ISTP or INTP Scrooge is really interesting in this version because externally he's not very different from other Scrooges we've seen but internally we've got a fair amount of departure from the others! In almost every other version I'd call him an ISTJ, the Worker, the type most known for almost obsessively keeping to task, but this Scrooge is a little more on-the-go. He's willing to drop everything for the sake of adventure, switch directions at a moment's notice, likes a lot of chaos (which is an xxxP trait), and he loves him some treasure but it's adventure he yearns for. Uncle Mom, Donald Duck ISFJ or ESFJ Oh Donald. You're much easier to peg than your uncle. Donald is most concerned with his family and the people around him (xxFx), he likes order, he doesn't like the unknown. He works with what he knows (xSxx), he wants things taken care of (xxxJ), and the only thing I'm not sure about is whether he prefers solitude (Ixxx) or company (Exxx), since he seems at home with both despite his near hermitage for the past ten years taking care of the boys. Tiny Dad, Huey ESFJ or ENFJ Huey's biggest concern, like Donald, is the people around him (ExFx). He wants then taken care of, he wants snacks, shanties, shirts, medical kits, wmergency flares, and lists of potential safehouses done before the adventure begins (xxxJ). Bluey (Dewey) ESFP This one's easy. He's energetic, he wants to be the life of the party, he wants to stick out, which is an ESFP in a nutshell. He wants to have fun, moving from one fun thing to the next to satisfy his curiosity (and stimulus levels). Captain Lost, Louie ESFP or ESTP Louie's a little more difficult because we're getting the idea of a boy who wants to not worry but worries a LOT. He's the easy charmer (most often ESTPs), get-rich-quick-schemer, and a little shallow. Don'tchya Pink, Webby ENFP or INFP Webby is the heart of the kids. She's most concerned with broad ideas (xNxx), a quick-thinker, able to switch around and chart a new course with ease, but most typically because of other people. Her heart is huge and she wants to make sure her internal morals aren't compromised--which is why lying is such a big deal for her. I'm a Spy, Mrs. Beakley ISTJ She's the Worker. Just. That is her. By god she's gonna get this done sO HELP HER-- Everybody's Friend, Launchpad ENFP Launchpad, my sweet boy. Sheldon Coop-er, Gyro Gearloose ESTP or ISTP Ideas. Inventions. Gyro's first concern is solving this problem, come hell or high water and oh dear the solution is causing a chain reaction someone get the fire extinguisher and a different bulb for Li'l Bulb. Wait Whose Niece is She, Lena ISTP We definitely need more info on Lena, but given that her first reaction to any problem is Han Soloing it, I'm almost certain this is an ISTP. Poor Man's Version of Scrooge, Flintheart Glomgold ISTP We need a little more time with this asshole, but I'm almost positive this is another "find the quickest solution without regards to consequences" fellow. ~*~Speculation~*~ Mom?!?!?, Della Duck xNxP We unfortunately just don't know enough about Miss Della yet to really make a solid guess but there's about four types I'm willing to bet on: INFP, INTP, ENFP, and ENTP. We know she's ready to make plans on the fly and she seems capable of putting clues together to form a bigger picture, which is usually xNxP. But WHY she took the Spear, exactly, is going to be one of the bigger deciding factors in which type she'd be.

Once Upon A Time: 10 Hilarious Memes Only True Fans Understand

We might have finally closed the book on Once Upon A Time, but that doesn't mean fans have completely forgotten the show that gave our beloved childhood stories a whole new life. The premise of the series was brilliant, and even though it went through some troubled times and some questionable plotlines, we're happy to say it holds a special place in the heart's of every true fan out there. 10 Mr Grey AKA The Huntsman

Way before Jamie Dornan was making half of the world population go crazy with his role as the enigmatic Mr. Grey in the much-anticipated movie Fifty Shades of Grey, he was gracing our small screens. His role as the huntsman was short-lived, but it made enough impact to make some fans really mad when he died.

Considering that the show lasted seven seasons and he didn't even make it past the first one, we say there's a good reason to be mad. It's not like his character was vital to the story or anything. He didn't even have that much dialogue. But he. Was. So. Hot. it just seems a little bit unfair, but maybe it's time to get over it. Or not.

9 Does My Hair Look Okay?

Yes, yes - we know she wasn't actually checking out her hair for fashionable purposes. The girl just wanted to make sure she was in the right reality. You know, as opposed to the one with unicorns and women with tails. But it's still pretty funny to assume that the first thing Regina would do after waking up from a dark curse would be to check her haircut.

Mostly because that is so Regina. Both this Regina and Regina George. Maybe it's a name thing? Either way, say whatever you want about the woman, but one thing is for sure - she has her priorities right!

8 Pun Intended

Remember Peter Pan? Not the cutesy, lovable child our parents used to tell us stories about. Rather the one who was Henry's great-grandfather, Bae's grandpa, and Rumpelstilskin's dad. If you think your family tree is messed up, watching Once Upon A Time will probably make you thank the heavens for what you got in the cards.

Either way, Peter Pan was an idiot. He was a full-blown villain, that made for a very confusing, albeit very entertaining third season. It's like he actually made this joke, but you know what? He might as well have because it's not exactly out of character for him to be extremely annoying. Do us a favor and never leave Neverland. Thanks!

7 Who Wore It Better?

Rumpelstiltskin was one of those characters you both love and hate. You know, sometimes you love to hate him, other times you hate to love him. And that friends, is a great example of both amazing writing and a fantastic performance. Even though everyone is Storybrooke managed to be some measure of messed up, Rumpelstiltskin takes the cake.

But one thing's for sure, the man knows how to be stylish. Even when his skin is green and full of weird marks, he still delivers some iconic fashion moments. Even more iconic than Prince Charming himself who, let's face it, is a tad bit boring. Maybe hire a stylist?

6 I Have The Perfect Solution For You!

If you've never been slightly obsessed with a television show before, chances are, you're not human. Slightly is already a very tame term, considering just how overboard some fans can go when it comes to defending their favorite series. Or talking about it. Or loving it in general.

5 Go Emma!

In all honesty, our hearts will always go out to Emma. Jesus, the woman has been through some serious hardships in her entire life. Not only did she have to give up her child for adoption, she has to deal with him coming back years later. Along with the revelation that she is Snow White and Prince Charming's daughter, of course!

However, through it all, Emma has somehow managed to stay sane and thrive. She eventually accepted her fate and found a middle ground to co-parent Henry with Regina. Plus, how much cooler can a mom get than Emma Swan? That's straight-up impossible, so congratulations to our good boy Henry!

4 Hey, I Just Met You...

How many variations of this song have we all heard by now? Probably thousands. But we're willing to argue that none of those hit the mark quite as this does. Where else could you find such a perfect situation, that it's both implausible, tragic, and hilarious in its ridicule? Leave it to Once Upon A Time!

Let's all take a second to make sure we show Emma Swan enough love and appreciation. What would any of us do if we heard and witnessed the things that she did? Probably consult several therapists. Not Emma though! She embraced all the craziness around her, and thanks to that, we got seven awesome seasons.

Call your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife. You can even call you pets. Just be sure to let them know that they are officially canceled because the one and only Bae is in town! Remember him? Henry's father, Emma's first love of sorts, Rumpelstilskin's son before he went all dark mode?

We would truly like to know if the name choice was intentional or not. Probably not, considering that at the time the expression "before anyone else" still wasn't mainstream. But it's just one of those rare instances int he universe where everything aligns so perfectly...and it's all in a name!

2 Just Shut Up, Snow

It's probably one of the longest-running gags amongst fans of the show. Snow White is a lot of wonderful things, okay? No one can deny that she loves deeply, fights for the well being of others, and is braver than most heroes out there. Plus, she's at the center of one of the most beautiful love stories ever depicted on television.

But the woman can't keep her mouth shut. To the point where it's detrimental to others, and to the point where it actually brought about her own near destruction. For the love of all that's holy Snow, put an Apple on it. Or just kiss Charming. Anything but letting sounds get out of your mouth.

1 BuT I'M a MoNSter!!

Rumpelstiltskin is the ultimate sad boy. It's not like we can't sympathize with him, he did go through some pretty horrible things. But wasn't there a better way to deal with it? Either way, that's beside the point. What matters here is that he actually thinks no one can love him, even when someone does. Clearly.

Do you know who really does love you, Rumpel? Despite every horrible thing you did throughout the course of the show? Your fangirls, Rumple. Your fangirls love you. Three clicks on the Internet are enough to prove it- - maybe consider bringing that self-deprecating tone down a notch?

1. Which Fallout game? I don’t know what Fallout is, but I’m from the Commonwealth, if that counts for anything?

2. What faction(s) did they join and which did they destroy? I have a few things going for me at the moment. I’m helping out the Minutemen and trying to get back in Preston’s good graces for destroying the Institute without issuing the evacuation order. Elder Maxson has promoted me to Sentinel for my exceptional efforts in getting rid of the Institute and the Railroad. I think I joined the Brotherhood because they reminded me so much of Nate and his military discipline.

4. What’s their background? I was born and raised in Boston. My parents raised me in a loving home until I was about 15. Mom was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, so Dad drank a lot which made him angry. Before long, he had left me at seventeen to care for my mother. She sadly passed away just before I turned 19. I managed to put myself through college after a couple years of a full time administration job at Mass Fusion. I studied criminology and policing which is where I met Nate Everett. We would marry at 22, and by 23 I was a junior detective at Cambridge Police Station which is around the time international tension rose so Nate started one of three tours in Russia and the Middle East. At the end of his third is when we became pregnant with Shaun.

5. What’s their full name and does it have a meaning? Aaliyah Elizabeth Everett-Backstone. Like most girls, I was named after my grandmother, Lizzy Backstone. Nate called me ‘Lee’; he told me it was because it doesn’t sound so formal, but I have a feeling it was because he couldn’t pronounce it. 

6. What’s their sexual, romantic, and gender orientation? Heterosexual cisgender female.

7. Do they have any mental illnesses? How do they cope? I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder just before I had Shaun. I know that seems like a long time, but I just didn’t really think that anything was wrong. Everyone has something that makes them tick, but Nate said it was a little more intense than that, even more so that I was pregnant. I can’t have things in a mess. If you put things in a bunch on a shelf randomly (like Piper does) I would have to go and make sure that it was only the one thing on the shelf, or you could clearly see where one faction ends and the other begins.

8. How much do they care about their outer appearance? I don’t much mind about what I look like. I do like to look clean (or as clean as the Commonwealth allows you to be) because of my jobs.

9. What do they fear the most? I fear silence. Before the war, I could always hear something: the traffic on the highway near my childhood home in Quincy; electric fans and someone flipping through paperwork at the precinct; Shaun’s baby babbling in the dead of night. When I came to after Vault 111, it was mostly gunshots and explosions; footsteps of power armour over the hum of the Prydwen’s engine, and the defense team that walks back and forth across settlements. I think I would go out of my mind if I couldn’t have constant sound. That’s what was so eerie about coming out cryo for the first time. The Vault was so...quiet. 

10. What are they most insecure about? The one thing that I’m mostly insecure about would probably have to be my ability to care. One day I fear I’m not going to do that anymore and I know that it will bad for all the Commonwealth because they need people who are willing to rebuild and care for everything.

11. What Wasteland creature(s) do they fear the most? I’m quite torn between Super Mutant Suiciders and Mythic Deathclaws.

12. Zodiac sign? Taurus.

13. Myer-Briggs? INFJ.

14. What is their strongest and weakest intelligence? My strongest is interpersonal intelligence, and my weakest is bodily kinaesthetic.

15. What’s their natural alignment? Chaotic good.

16. Do they have any hobbies? I enjoy taking care of animals a lot. There’s about five of Gene’s junkyard dogs running around Sanctuary along with several house cats. Also, meteorology and photography. Imagine my surprise when Preston gifted me with a working camera on my first Christmas out of the vault.

17. What’s their favourite season? I used to love winter and now I don’t on account of several reasons. I do like heading to Diamond City on Christmas Day. I may take gifts for the Brotherhood supply team since they won’t be heading back to the Prydwen for a while. I enjoy springtime the most. The trees are starting to grow back so it gets greener and more vibrant every year and it’s lovely to sit on the roof of the clubhouse and breathe in the air.

18. Do they prefer to travel along or with company? I do prefer company, especially when in the metro. Dogmeat, Piper, or Nick usually accompany me through the hill to the west and north. Strong and Danse stick with me in the city. Since the whole ordeal with Danse and the Brotherhood, I like knowing he’s safe so I don’t take him out as much. It pains me knowing that I would have to kill my brothers and sisters because they can’t get past their own pride and decorum. I hope to change this one day, but he’s fine with the arrangement as long as I come back in one piece.

19. What do they find most attractive in others? There’s many things that draw me to someone. If I had to pick a few traits though, it would definitely have to be intelligence and dedication. Wouldn’t hurt if they had nice eyes, either.

20. Anything they like to collect? I wouldn’t say I like collecting them, but sometimes I come across Brotherhood checkpoints after they’ve finished defending their checkpoint. More often than not, I walk away with a holotag or two. They’re kept in a safe in Sanctuary and they will be returned to Maxson one day.
