Black Myth: Wukong Journal Entries Part 2
Part 1 talks about what happened to the monkeys from Mount Huaguo after SWK died
Part 2 will be about the bosses you fight in chapter 6 to get the Golden Suozi armor parts, I will be linking back to the fandom wiki for the full journal entries and some videos. I highly recommend reading the articles in full because it also talks about what kind of person Sun Wukong is/was.
Sun Wukong's armor were scattered around Mt. Huaguo and turned into creatures after he died.
Disclaimer: I am not an expert in JTTW, a lot of things are drawn up from my own conclusion.
Long text so everything is under cut!
Gold Armored Rhino
SWK has a heart of gold, lungs of silver, head of copper and iron body from being in the Furnace for 40 days
Can still feep pain when injured though
was fed iron pellet and moletn copper by mountain deities and keepers when he was buried under Five-Element Mountain for 500 years
his monkeys didn't visit him :(
also headband curse so tight his head would resmeble a gourd ouch
Golden Armored Rhino mirrors the Great Sage's indomitable spirit, never yielding to defeat
"[...] Even if its horn was shattered, it never lost the resolve to charge into battle, standing resolute and read to fight anew.
In the game, you have to shatter his horn with heavy attacks in order to be able to do a lot of damage, but the horn grows back after few seconds, so it's rise and repeat. Also the location of the armor is littered with dead soldier bodies. After the fight ZBJ says that the bosses were killing the soldiers because the soldiers were trying to get the armor pieces. Dialogue starts at 4:22
Cloudtreading Deer
Sommersault Cloud made Wukong's body invulnerable and movement agile, but his lack of patience would lead to trouble
this whole paragraph: "Immortals often say that Sun Wukong was at his most mischievous and ruthless when he was the Monkey King. Yet, during that time, aside from his battles with the Celestial Court, he rarely harmed other beings. It was only after he became a disciple, following his master and gaining direction, that he developed many thunderous methods. Stealing, robbing, kidnapping, killing, arson, and destroying mountains and caves—all became second nature to him."
Cloudtreading Deer is transformed from his Lotus Silk Cloudtreaders (the things protecting his legs)
represents both sides of his nature: free-spirited and agile nature and his inherent ferocity
Cloudtreading Deer battle has two phases, the first one where it casts stupid tornados and also moves around very fast and through the sky. I fucking hated that phase LMFAO. Second phase was easier, but also spooky the boss turns into some blood deer and it's giving me massive bloodborne vibes. Transformation starts at 8:10 in the video. Basically, phase 1 is the free spirited and agile nature of wukong, and phase 2 is his ruthleness and ferocity
Feng-Tail General
Learned human manners and speech during his travels and when he studied Dao at Mt. Lingtai
"When he left in a huff at Yingchou Stream, the Old Loong King reasoned with him, and he returned to admit his mistakes. He abandoned arbitrary actions and always heeded sound advice." -> Before they met the White Dragon horse at the Yingchou stream, Tripitaka and SWK were ambushed by bandits, and SWK killed them all, to which Tripitaka was not happy about. They fought, SWK left. He then chats with the Old Loong King of the stream, who also told SWK that there was a White Dragon and his master might be in danger, so SWK goes back to Tripitaka. Also in his absence that's when Guanyin gave Tripitaka the headband to be put onto SWK
"He forged brotherly bonds with yaoguais, engaged in jest with immortals, and exchanged banter with Bodhisattvas. His amiable nature endeared him to all, who were ever willing to offer their assistance. He had a sense of decorum and propriety." -> not much for me to add there, he becomes sworn brothers with few yaoguai, like the Bull King or Erlang Shen
"He had the ability to summon wind and rain and could seek out loongs. He could transform into guais for scouting or borrow vessels when needed. In times of trouble, he sought the aid of higher beings, seldom relying on brute force."
-> truth lol, like the amount of times he had to get help from other deities to beat up an enemy and save his master
"This Feng-Tail General, with multiple eyes on his head, had a keen understanding of both himself and his enemies. He was adept at leaping and dodging, avoiding powerful foes whenever possible, and displayed a touch of the monkey's cleverness. It's no wonder that the crown on the monkey's head grasped his nimble thoughts so well."
This is the only boss you didn't have to fight, I saw it more as a stamina / health test to test your built lol. Basically what you have to do in the game is jump onto it's head and hold onto the antenna while the grasshopper is jumping three times, and then pull the antennas out while not getting burned. And yeah in the map he is just leaping and jumping around. Honestly not even sure if you can try to fight it, I didn't bother to find out.
Emeral-Armed Mantis
"Tang Monk often advocated for kindness, while Sun Wukong was known for his punishment of evil."
"At Kui-Mu Wolf's abode, upon learning of the princess's suffering and her reluctance to leave due to her feelings for the yaoguai and children bore for him, Sun Wukong ordered Bajie to throw the yaoguai's children from the height, reducing them to two lumps of flesh." -> Referencing the arc in ch. 38-31 in JTTW, the Yellow Robe Demon, also known as Kuimulang (will abbreviate as KML). KML is one of the 28 constellations, and he had a lover. in JTTW she was reincarnated as a princess, gets kidnapped by KML, married for 13 years and they have two kids. It's those two kids where SWK orders ZBJ to throw them off.
"At Old Yang's house, after learning of the unfilial deeds of the old couple's son and seeing how they indulged him for the sake of incense offerings, he proceeded to behead the son despite Old Yang's pleas." -> Ch. 52 in JTTW, screenshot taken from here
"Sun Wukong's nature was to show no mercy to villains and evildoers; he delighted in eradicating evils and yaoguais. The numerous blood debts on the journey to the West, though each had its reasons, were mostly attributed to the monkey.
The world knew of the other three pieces of armor, but they were unaware that the mantis was actually transformed from the Great Sage's gauntlet. It seems the gauntlet inherited the Great Sage's ruthlessness, for it played tricks on Zhu Bajie with the same cunning."
The last bit refers to when ZBJ was trying to catch the mantis but it jumped into his mouth down his throat into his stomach instead and the DO had to go inside his mouth to fight the mantis.
The first half of the battle is super easy imo but then after you cut down certain % of his HP, the mantis gets a lot more aggressive. While the mantis was inside ZBJ stomach, it is cutting on its wall, hence ZBJ is doubling over in pain. So I guess this refers to how ruthless SWK can be

In which I ramble about a formative part of my early life...
When I was a young man (early twenties, specifically) I spent a period of about 8 months living completely on my own in an apartment. Prior to that, I'd lived for 4 months with an Aunt of mine, who psychologically abused me under the guise of educating me on the ways of adulthood (she felt that my parents had done an inadequate job of preparing me for the "real world"), and she nearly drove me to suicide.
Anyway, the 8 months that followed were some of the most eye-opening of my life. I didn't do very well on my own, as I was still grieving my dad and didn't truly know what I was doing, but I learned a lot about myself. I also spent way more money on stupid stuff than I should have, mostly because I hadn't learned how to properly budget money.
It was during that period of my life where I properly entered my goth phase, developed my taste in music and fiction and such, and started to really know myself. I spent a fair amount of money on books, getting into Harry Potter, and The Vampire Chronicles, as well as the works of Jhonen Vasquez (the creator of Invader Zim, I Feel Sick, and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac).
After I self-destructed while living alone, I was moved in with my sister and her now ex-husband. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I did something wrong that prompted my sister and her husband to take away all things that they deemed to be a bad influence on me (mind you, I'm 21-22 years old at this time), which meant that they took almost all of my novels and comic books, and various other things away from me, and kept them from me for several months, before ultimately throwing away several hundred dollars worth of my property.
I'm still pissed off about it to this day. My mom and my sister have been playing brother's keeper with me for the better part of 23 years, and neither of them really knows me at all, has never made any real effort to get to know me as I am, preferring their own idea of me.
My mom knows better than to punish me like a child, but that hasn't stopped her from treating me like one, even though I'm mature enough to see it for what it is.
I'm just...so fucking tired of my life not being in my own control. I know I've posted about this many times before, but it never stops being relevant.

Gorilla Babies Wrestle, Sister Defends Brother by SloggerVlogger Gorilla Babies Juni and Hasani have a wrestling match, that's until Ayana comes running and defends her brother Juni, but watch closely as an adult hand appears and she gets pushed away. I think it's Kera, Hasani's Surrogate Mum. Hasani is the one that sits by the door frame. This video was filmed in January 2021. If you've been following the gorillas you might know that they are still in the closed Bristol Zoo. They are getting a new enclose built in 2024 and that's when they will be moved to the new Bristol Zoo just outside the city centre. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to visit another gorilla troop as I concentrated on Twycross Zoo with Gorilla Lope leaving this year. If you would like to know the Bristol Zoo gorilla Family more, check out this introduction video: https://youtu.be/I5IejS2QY4w and some more info here: The first Gorilla arrived at Bristol Zoo on 8th September 1930 named Alfred. The Zoo itself opened on July 11th 1836! The first gorilla birth was on March 6th 1971. Currently, there are 8 gorillas at the Bristol Zoo. Starting off with Jock the Silverback. He was born on May 31st 1983 at Zoo La Palmyre. He got moved to the Bristol Zoo on the 25.June 2003. His offspring are Namoki, Komale, Kukena, Afia, Ayana, Hasani and Juni. Kera was born on August 26th 2004 at the Parc Zoológic de Barcelona. She moved to the Bristol Zoo on the 08.September.2008. Her offspring is Afia. Afia was born by emergency cesarean section at Bristol Zoo on the 12th of February 2016 after her mother, Kera, showed symptoms of potentially life-threatening pre-eclampsia. She had to be hand-raised. Gorilla Romina took an interest in Afia when the keepers walked past her with Afia in their arms. So Afia was slowly introduced to Romina and in October started bonding with her surrogate mother. Kera did recover after being ill for a while but didn't recognize Afia as her daughter. Romina took over to raise her, but sadly they had to put her to sleep in Aug 2018 because she had an advanced large cancerous mass in her abdomen. Afia by then was part of the group and Dad Jock and the other females looked after her. Touni was born on the 12th of December 2007 at the La Vallée des Singes and moved to the Bristol Zoo on the 28.September 2015. Her daughter is Ayana who was born on the 22nd of April 2017. On 22 December 2020, Touni gave birth to the second baby gorilla for Bristol Zoo that year during covid lockdown and he has named a combination of his Mother’s and Father's name, Juni. Kala was born on the 11th of December 2010 in Hannover. She's the newest member of the group as she joined on the 16.October 2018. She was pregnant in Sep 2019 but sadly lost the baby. The cause of death is unknown. On August 19th 2020 Kala gave birth to baby Hasani. Unfortunately, she couldn’t feed him properly and is being hand-raised by Bristol Zoo staff members. In May 2021 Kera showed interest in Hasani and became the new surrogate mother of the little boy. The Bristol Zoo has closed its doors for good. As an inner-city zoo, it didn't have a place to expand. That's why they are relocating some of the animals like this gorilla family to the outside of Bristol to a place called Wildlife Place Project, now Bristol Zoo Project. They stated that they are going to start building in 2024. So it will still be a while until they have moved. If you would like to see more of the Wildlife place they are moving to, you can watch this hyper-lapse I have done on my travel channel: https://youtu.be/PUZ1F2dwhEE All the Bristol Zoo Gorilla videos: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXC1aShJSBiWo8RsysJA97AlOfKJCcYte Stay connected and never miss a moment! You say you want a Revolution
I have long had a fascination with the American Revolution. When I was eight, I latched onto The Young Rebels, a one-hit-wonder television series that blended The Mod Squad with the War of Independence.
Later, in high school, I dove into the Kent Family Chronicles, an eight-book series by John Jakes that covers the nation's founding and formative years. I got another whiff of history as entertainment.
As an adult, I considered more serious works, like 1776 and John Adams by David McCullough, The Glorious Cause by Jeff Shaara, and Benjamin Franklin: An American Life by Walter Isaacson. More recently, I have binge-watched series like Turn: Washington's Spies, Franklin, The Revolution, and Outlander, set in part in the 1770s and 1780s.
So I did not need much prodding to dive into the era. The Patriots, the first book in the Stone Shed trilogy, is my first foray into the American Revolution. Set in Philadelphia in both the present and the past, the novel examines America's first year from the viewpoint of two time travelers.
When their grandfather dies in 2024, Noah (22) and Jake (15) Maclean inherit a house, a mysterious stone shed, and a family secret that dates to the 1740s. The brothers learn they are the keepers of a portal that can send human beings through time. From that point on, life for the orphans is more than a series of questions. It is an opportunity.
With a nervous uncle's blessing, Noah and Jake take a three-month "vacation" to 1776 and the world of Ben Franklin, John Adams, Peggy Shippen, the Continental Congress, and the Declaration of Independence. They see the United States as a fledgling infant.
Then the trip takes a turn. The brothers meet Abigail (20) and Rachel (14) Ward, the lovely, spirited daughters of a Philadelphia furniture maker, and a thrilling adventure becomes a transformative journey.
The Patriots evokes earlier novels. As in The Fire, a stone shed serves as a time portal. As in Class of '59, brothers from one era mingle with sisters from another. As in Hannah's Moon, an aunt and uncle in the present track relatives in the past. War, a theme in ten other works, serves as a backdrop that influences almost every decision.
Even so, this book blazes its own trail. It delves more into the human aspects of time travel than the scientific aspects. It explores the what ifs, the whys, and the how comes. It tests the heart, mind, and soul.
At 155,000 words, The Patriots, my twenty-fourth novel, is my largest and most ambitious work to date. Available in Kindle format, it goes on sale today at Amazon.com and its international marketplaces.

Cain Murders Abel
1 Now the man knew his wife Eve, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, ‘I have produced a man with the help of the Lord.’ 2 Next she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a tiller of the ground. 3 In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, 4 and Abel for his part brought of the firstlings of his flock, their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6 The Lord said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; its desire is for you, but you must master it.’
8 Cain said to his brother Abel, ‘Let us go out to the field.’ And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Where is your brother Abel?’ He said, ‘I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?’ 10 And the Lord said, ‘What have you done? Listen; your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground! 11 And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it will no longer yield to you its strength; you will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.’ 13 Cain said to the Lord, ‘My punishment is greater than I can bear! 14 Today you have driven me away from the soil, and I shall be hidden from your face; I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and anyone who meets me may kill me.’ 15 Then the Lord said to him, ‘Not so! Whoever kills Cain will suffer a sevenfold vengeance.’ And the Lord put a mark on Cain, so that no one who came upon him would kill him. 16 Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
Beginnings of Civilization
17 Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch; and he built a city, and named it Enoch after his son Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael the father of Methushael, and Methushael the father of Lamech. 19 Lamech took two wives; the name of one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 Adah bore Jabal; he was the ancestor of those who live in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the ancestor of all those who play the lyre and pipe. 22 Zillah bore Tubal-cain, who made all kinds of bronze and iron tools. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23 Lamech said to his wives:
‘Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say: I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for striking me. 24 If Cain is avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy-sevenfold.’
25 Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, for she said, ‘God has appointed for me another child instead of Abel, because Cain killed him.’ 26 To Seth also a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to invoke the name of the Lord. — Genesis 4 | New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised (NRSVA) New Revised Standard Version Bible: Anglicised Edition, copyright © 1989, 1995 the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. [provo a fare una traduzione quantomeno della parte riportata da op]
GIULIA AND HER SISTERS: A COUNTRY THAT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TALK ABOUT FEMICIDE
Giulia's face has been constantly shown to us next to that of the main suspect: a picture of them together. If this is not violence, is it more like an insult, at least?
And what insults, what arrogance and verbal aggressions her sister, Elena Cecchettin, is undergoing, right now? On Rai 1 [= national television's main channel] we heard this about her: "Now she's the only woman of the house left to care for their father and brother". On Rete 4 [=another important tv channel], when Elena spoke, when she said clearly what a good part of the commentators in the tv parlor could not or knew not ot wanted not to say, that in Italy we have a big problem, social, cultural, educational, there was who answered her with Switzerland and Finland.
It was reaffirmed to her and us that Filippo Turetta is a 22-years-old boy: "He's probably used Giulia's availability (...) he used Giulia's naivete (...) I understand your pain, but (...) The idea one should have a trial for the patriarchal society (...) Using this episode in an instrumental and even a bit hypocritical way..." In short: mourn your sister, condemn her assassin, but don't you dare make it our problem.
[...] Who could have guessed, he was such a nice guy! A nice guy to whom none other boy or men put a hand on his shoulder asking: you're not leaving now, let me understand, what's this about, what do you think you're doing? A nice guy to whom none other boy or man took away the car's keys when he talked about killing himself.
A nice guy for whom other boys and men, whether they knew him or not, today answer contrite, sad, alarmed. But at one point, their speech freezes and stops. You see them shake their heads in front of the cameras. It wasn't them, no.
And like Cain in the Bible, they seem to ask: "Am I my brother's keeper?".

"Harry Binder Greeted By Friends On Return," Ottawa Citizen. November 3, 1942. Page 20. ---- Intends To Rejoin Family in Winnipeg After Long Stay in Prison. ---- Smartly dressed in a grey tweed suit, the parting gift of Kingston penitentiary which he left last Friday after spending two years and four months of a three-year sentence there, Harry Binder, erstwhile Communist, arrived in Ottawa last night. On hand to meet him at the Union Station was a group of friends and his brother, Louis, released from the same penitentiary six weeks ago, who yesterday applied at the Sparks street recruiting depot for readmission to the army which discharged him almost three years ago. Changed Appearance. Harry Binder was changed. His cheeks were sunken, and the jovial manner of former days was replaced by weariness and gravity. He has lost ten pounds and is suffering from a stomach ailment. After a medical examination in Toronto Saturday, the doctor advised him that there was nothing seriously wrong which rest, a diet and some good home cooking could not cure. After spending a few days in Ottawa, Harry intends to rejoin his wife and four-year-old daughter, Joan Emily, in Winnipeg. Mrs. Binder he has not seen since May, and Joan Emily was last brought to visit him almost a year ago. Questioned as to his views on the war, Harry said: "It seems clear today that the gravity of the situation requires the utmost that every Canadian can give to the war effort. Uppermost in the minds of all of us, of course, is the problem of a second front and each of us, I believe, is directly concerned with that front. We must devote all of our time and energy to assuring that that second front is opened in the shortest possible time." His Greatest Concern. It was not, he said, the trials of prison life and the separation from his family and friends which grieved him most during his internment. "While my personal problems were difficult," he declared, "my greatest personal concern was whether or not we would in sufficient time be able to bring about the mobilization of our resources and manpower to defeat the plans of Hitler." Harry has promised Justice Minister St. Laurent that, as long as the Communist party is banned in Canada, he will not participate in the activities of that organization. He thinks, however, that if the ban on the party were lifted, it would strengthen the unity of the Canadian people in the war. "By the way." he interrupted. "tell me, how is the Victory Loan coming along in Ottawa?" Harry Binder was sitting in his cell in Kingston penitentiary after a lunch of fish-cakes last Friday noon when he first received word that he was to be released. A guard came to the door and told him to gather up his personal b longings and to go to the chief keeper's office. There, with 15 minutes to change and catch the train to Toronto, he divested himself of prison costume and donned the suit, shoes, overcoat and accessories which the government supplies to released convicts. He was given a national registration card, a ration book and the sum of $18.70, this being his wages for two years and four months at the rate of five cents a day minus 22 cents weekly for tobacco and cigaret papers.

Part 22 of My Brother’s Keeper (Part 1 l Previous l Next)
You want to know the funny thing?
I’ve had this chapter written - exactly as is - for more than three months.
I don’t know what’s going on in my head. I’m... working on it.
Sorry it’s mostly filler, and probably seems a little random if certain points don’t connect until later. It sets up some important things and I felt that it was important. Or maybe unimportant, and that was the important part? We’ve been missing these characters from the story entirely, we should take a second to sit with them! Anyway, I have most of the next three chapters written too, so hopefully I have more for you soon. hope you enjoy it
A crescent moon rose, and rose, and rose in the night sky, and as it flickered through the blinds of Marvin's room, his deep blue eyes flashed open. His hands were stretched out to his side, scarred in patterns of fire, and as he slept the vining flowers mounted on the wall had crept down the board of his bed to touch his pale fingers.
He sighed, low and content. The vines must have been what woke him up. No need for alarm. Humming sleepily, he turned over on his side and let his eyes slide shut once more.
Someone gagged in another room.
Blue eyes re-opened in a second and Marvin's socked feet found the floor before his brain even bothered to process it. Drawing a blanket around his shoulders, he hurried out into the hall and headed straight for his brother's room, grabbing the side of the open door as he peered in.
“Jackie?” he whispered. He shook off sleep for the sake of concern. “You okay?”
But Jackie's shape lay still in the darkness, bundled into a lump of weighted blankets and hoodie fabric. He gave a soft, heavy breath, snuggling his face against the pillows.
Marvin's mouth flickered briefly into a small, fond smile. He hummed, playing poetry in his head, watching his brother sleep warm and safe and sound. Snoring dork. Starry hero.
But if he wasn't the one who was retching, and Henrik was on shift, then –
The retching, again, in another room.
Oh. Oh, no.
Coming to Jackie's aid was easy, practiced, familiar. But to his?
A few steps back, a few feet up the hall. Marvin found himself standing outside his doorway regardless of the discomfort, his hand raised to knock.
He wouldn't want me to bother him, would he?
He lowered his hand.
He sounds like he's crying or throwing up or something. Someone should check on him.
Raised it again.
I know I would be embarrassed if someone found me crying at – fuck, it's already four-thirty in the morning? Why is he still awake? He stays up late, yes, but not like this.
Yeah, returned the other half of his brain. And maybe if the time didn't tip you off to the fact that he needs you, the desperate sobbing should! Idiot.
Oh, fuck, he had started crying, hadn't he? Small and weak through the thin walls, a soft, aching sort of sob. Marvin turned a frustrated circle in the hallway. It wasn't like he was going to be able to help, anyway. He wasn't good at this sort of thing. He felt small and embarrassed and stupid –
Oh, come on, he snarled to himself, pounding a fist into his other palm. He needs me! What am I, some kind of coward? Fucking pansy boy? Marvin the Magnificent, cowed by the sound of him crying?
No, he could do this. He was no coward. He'd faced demons before, after all – why should emotional vulnerability be any different?
He was pretty sure he would prefer the demons.
He raised his hand and knocked.
“Bud?” gasped a hopeful voice, the crying cutting off mid-sob. “Is that you?”
“Um,” said Marvin. He didn't think so. Jack had never called him bud before.
“Oh,” came the reply, softer. “Sorry, I – come in.”
Marvin poked his head in, finding Jack perched on the edge of his bed, clinging frailly to a tupperware container.
“Feeling sick, huh?” he asked, stepping in. He sat awkwardly down on Jack's bed, almost embarrassed by the swell of concern that rose in his chest like a fire. He was born protective – didn't know why, and didn't much like it, either – but ever since Jack's nightmares began, the nightmares about the man with no eyes, Marvin had grown fiercer and fiercer every day.
He needs me. He needs me. He needs me.
He wished he had a little more healing power, but it was never something he mastered. He was glad to have Henrik around the house, these days. He'd adjusted to having a little brother, and now, if he was honest with himself, he wouldn't have it any other way.
“A little.” Jack's voice was quiet and painful. He set the container aside with shaking hands and failed in his attempt to smile at his friend. The dull nightlight Jackie had put in his room illuminated pale circles beneath his blue eyes and cast a gleam of light over the glossy surface of his phone, where the camera app was open and a soft red dot blinked in the corner of the screen. “Thanks for checking on me. I, um. Sorry, I just. Don't feel well.”
“Were you...” Marvin nodded at the phone on the bed, frowning. “Were you recording something?”
Jack flushed, reaching down to press stop on the video. His mouth had tightened colorlessly. He shook his head slowly, avoiding Marvin's eye.
“Jack?” Concerned, Marvin dared to reach out and touch his shoulder, trying to meet his gaze. “Hey, hey. Tell me what's wrong.”
Jack's eyes fluttered shut. He let out a low groan like he wanted to speak, but no words came, until at last, he managed: “Feel really – feel really really sick, Marv.”
“Fuck,” mumbled Marvin, rubbing his thumb over Jack's shoulder. “You're all clammed up, man. Deep breaths, okay?”
Jack laughed breathily, eyes squeezed shut. His whole body trembled hard, but minutely, a frail but violent shaking of his whole body.
“Do we need to go to the hospital?”
Jack shook his head.
“Did you have a bad dream?”
A rapid nod. A painful swallow.
Marvin felt his forehead, but there was no fever. “Just freaked out, huh?” he murmured, his mouth twitching sympathetically.
“I'm sorry,” managed Jack, sniffling. “I'm acting like such a little bitch.”
“Hey, ha, don't say that. No, you're not. It's okay to be upset, Jack. Do you want to tell me about it?”
“You've heard it all before,” laughed Jack, a frantic edge to his voice. “They're always the same. Just realizing my skin isn't my own, and waking up with him there, and the noise my throat makes when it's open – ”
He gagged suddenly, hard, clutching at his neck, and Marvin grabbed the tupperware container just in time for Jack to bend over and heave up the mucus left at the bottom of his stomach. Hot tears rolled down his face as he retched painfully, clutching at his phone. Bewildered, Marvin watched him click record again as soon as he had stopped throwing up, and he pulls the camera to himself and holds it close, like a lifeline, staring at the door with a desperation in his eyes –
Marvin reacted as though on instinct, reaching out to cover Jack's heart with his hand. A spell rises in him, a memory, a poem, found on the pages of his books and scrawled down in his little journal, to await the day that it is needed.
“I come into the peace of wild things,” he recited softly, focused on the pounding of his heart. “I come into the presence of still water.”
Blue light rises in the room like smoke. Jack closed his eyes, a show of trust, sobbing.
“And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting for their light.”
Cool wisps of magic from his hands, like water. A small spell, a quiet spell, no more than a calmative before bed, hardly different from something Henrik would give him.
“I rest in the grace of the world,” he finished, drawing away from his creator.
Ah, poetry – made magic on Marvin's tongue, it bloomed in the air like mist, cool with the smell of petrichor, leaving a static sigh like a faraway storm breathing through the wind.
Jack clung to the sensations.
He shook, and shook, and shook, wiping at the tears on his face, struggling to breathe easy, but the magic sat like something warm against his chest, curling closer and closer. He was coming down, now, coming down, and at last, when he spoke, his despair was as quiet and as cold as a faraway star.
“He's coming to take me again, Marvin.”
“No. No!” He startled himself with his own ferocity, grabbing his shoulders. “That will never, ever happen! Do you understand? I will never let him take you from us again.”
Jack sighed shakily, his eyes sliding closed again. For a moment, he just let Marvin hold him – and then he was leaning in, exhausted, crumbling against Marvin's shoulder, laying his head near to his throat, near to his collar, near to his heart.
Marvin was stopped short, trying to breathe steady. Slowly, he wrapped his arms around him, and held his friend close.
They rest in the grace of the world. The room is warm with magic.
“Why are you recording?” he tried again, gentler. Quieter.
“Makes me feel safer.” Jack's voice was a whisper. He clutched at Marvin's shirt. “Like he would come, if I were in trouble. I know he'd come, if I were in trouble. He's looking out for me.”
“Who? Jackie?”
A long pause.
“Not Jackie?”
“No,” admitted Jack, quietly. “Someone else.”
Marvin stared at the wall, setting his head down on top of Jack's. He smelled like coffee and laundry and sweat, human as they come, and Marvin loved him so much it was painful to hold him, to think that someone might one day taking him away from his side.
“Who?” he asked, soft. “Who were you waiting for?”
No answer. Just the warm weight of his head against his shoulder.
“Jack,” he murmured. “What are you not telling me?”
Jack drew back, his face drawn, the panic calmed, exhausted, waiting for another time to make itself known.
“Hey,” said Marvin.
His voice shook from the vulnerability. But he was no coward. Not for him. For him, everything.
“You can count on me. You know that, right? I'd die for you, Jack. In a heartbeat.”
Jack met his gaze and finally mustered a smile.
“Thank you,” he whispered. “Thank you. You're really fucking good to me. I'm grateful. Marvin, one day, I'll explain everything. Everything. But... not today. I can't tell you, even now. Even if I knew how to share this weight...”
He let out a deep breath and shook his head, letting his eyes slide shut.
“Sometimes there are things we have to carry alone for awhile,” Marvin finished softly.
Jack looked up at him again, a sorrowful smile curving on his mouth. Moonlight made starry his eyes, blue as sunlight on river water.
Marvin stared between Jack and the phone, recording patiently. Waiting for someone. Calling to someone. A record, a memory, created eternally.
“Okay,” said Marvin, meeting his gaze. “Well. Take your time. But when you're ready – ”
It was a heavy late summer night, washing them both in heat and humidity and the smell of flowers from somewhere not far off. Tight-mouthed and exhausted, Jack reached gently out and touched Marvin's wrist. Marvin flinched, but didn't draw back.
“I'll tell you everything,” Jack promised, and he looked him in the eyes. He tried very hard to smile, rubbing his thumb across the vein of his wrist, where he could feel his strong heart beating out a warm, familiar rhythm. “Someday, Marvin. Someday I'll tell you all everything.”
They were both young. They were both safe. They were both awake.
Things have changed.
“I have so many questions.”
Jameson's hand is warm in his own. His worn face is, Marvin thinks, the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.
Even with tears dripping down his face.
“I have so many questions. So many questions. I don't understand anything. I feel like I'm drowning. All the time, so many questions, so many questions, and you were a missing piece of the puzzle I thought was gone for certain, for good, but here you are! You don't know how excited the others will be to see you! You don't know how excited I am! You'll tell me everything, won't you? You'll tell me everything, and the two of us will go back to our brothers, and everything will make sense, and all the pieces will fit together, and everything will make sense! Won't it?”
“Oh.”
Marvin stares up at him, his mouth slightly open.
“No... no, Jameson. I can't. I can't do that. Someday, but not now, though I wish I could. I wish I could more than anything else I've ever wanted. You, I think, are one of the only people who could understand just how badly I do wish for it. With everything that I am. With everything I am, I want that. But not now. Not today. Someday. I – I'm so sorry.”
Jameson's face falls. Fuck, but he's worn. Fuck, but he's beautiful.
Marvin's missed him.
“You – you can't explain everything, or you can't come back with me?”
Tears slide down Marvin's cheeks. He clings to Queenie's fur and closes his eyes, smiling shakily. Smiling sorrowfully.
“I'm so sorry,” he says. “I'm so, so sorry.”
Months his little brother has been Anti's. His whole life has been one blow after another and the god-awful anticipation that sits between. And now, despite everything, despite everything, Marvin has nothing to offer him but empty words and a spinning, starry, prison sky.
“Jameson, I can't do either.”

Sarah and wheezie realizing rafes good mood is actually because of a new woman in his life?
LOVE!
"Rafe, are you blushing?" Wheezie asks as she throws herself down onto the couch beside her brother, eyes desperately trying to peak down at his phone. He shoves her away with a scoff, his wide eyes sending me a desperate look.
"Wheeze-"
"Rafe never blushes let alone shows any sort of positive emotion!" She points out with a huff, folding her arms over her chest. "Right?" She looks to me for agreement but I just shake my head with a shrug. For a second, I think she's going to drop it but instead, Sarah steps into the room with furrowed brows.
"Rafe showing positive emotion instead of fantasizing about homicide? That's new." Sarah claps, falling down beside me on the couch and she wraps an arm around my shoulder. "Who ya texting?" She asks but I'm quick to turn my phone off, my cheeks warming as I duck my gaze to avoid Wheezie and Sarah's interested gaze.
"Okay, weird." Wheezie huffs and I take a deep breath, flashing wide eyes at Rafe as he slips his phone into his pocket, discontinuing our private text conversation that was meant to not be on Sarah's or Wheezie's radar. We're not the best secret keepers.
"Should we just tell them?" I ask Rafe, a small scoff leaving him as he nods his head, looking down at his lap. I address both girls, referencing between Rafe and I before confessing. "Rafe and I have been seeing each other for nearly four months now and you both are blind if you haven't realized it by now-"
"I fucking knew it!" Wheezie cheers, slapping a hand over her mouth as Ward yells 'language' from another part of the house. Sarah's dumbfounded, looking between her brother and I as the pieces in her head fit into place.
"That's why you've been so nice." Sarah nods at Rafe, a small blush dipping down under the collar of his shirt as he sends his sister a small nod in agreement, reaching up to rub at the back of his neck. A sudden look of realization passes across Wheezie's face, her jaw dropping as she reaches out to punch Rafe on the shoulder, a small wince leaving him.
"Oh my god, you're the girl who's been keeping us up for months?!"
Oh god. They heard that?
"Oh god this just got a lot worse." Rafe mutters, burying his face into the nearest pillow and I try desperately to hold in all of my anxious giggles as Sarah and Wheezie go back and forth, recalling awkward moments from the last few months that they're just now piecing together.

My Friend’s Father (Part Nine)
Pairing: Cillian Murphy x Reader
Warning: Age Gap, Smut, Domestic Violence, Angst
Words: 3,064
Please comment and interact...it's what keeps this blog going
***************************
Almost a week had passed since you stayed with Cillian at his unit in Galway and, despite the fact that he was away, things had further developed between you as emotions grew with every day.
He was different to any man you had ever been involved with and, whilst your involvement with each other stemmed from purely sexual lust and hunger, you had evolved from this to something different entirely within a matter of days.
Of course, you knew each other for years and, whilst you had a crush on Cillian for as long as you could remember, you never thought that it would be like this and, for Cillian, this feeling had never been mutual.
Whilst he always considered you to be attractive and very intelligent and kind, he never felt any emotional connection or sexual attraction towards you, at least not until that weekend when you visited Denise, which was also the first time he saw you again after six months had passed.
On that night during which you slept with each other, he let his sexual hunger take over his reasonable thinking mind after he saw you, in his kitchen, making pancakes and you had since, quite openly, talked about it. He saw sleeping with you as a mistake but, ever since that night, he couldn’t get you out of his head.
For you, things weren’t just sexual anymore and you began to feel strongly for Cillian which worried you especially since he was open about the fact that he didn’t know where things were heading with you. The fact that you are his daughter’s friend and much younger than him clearly bothered him and he sometimes admitted to you that he felt strange about building such a strong connection with you. A relationship was not what he wanted but he liked you, a lot.
As such, during the past week, Cillian called you every day after he finished filming and you were talking to him more frequently than you were talking to Denise.
During his breaks, he would also text you and check in on you as you were in the middle of exams. He always remembered when you had a test and asked you how it went and, when you told him that you didn’t feel confident with your results, he reassured you that you probably did well and, even if you didn’t, it wouldn’t matter. According to him, a pass is a pass and you needed to lower your expectations of yourself just a little.
To your surprise, he also remembered appointments you had scheduled and things that bothered you which meant that, unlike other men you had been with, he was actually listening and was interested in what you had to say.
Some nights, you had spent hours on the phone or Skype, joking about things you had encountered that day or talking about books, literature and music, which is something you both enjoyed.
Politics and social issues were other matters you could discuss endlessly and, even when you were of different opinions, you would be able to argue in the most satisfying way. Cillian always treated you as an equal and even opened up to you about his divorce from Denise’s mother recently.
Another thing you learned from Cillian was that Denise was brining along her friend Amalie to Manchester to stay at his apartment and, when you gave him a warning about her and her intentions, he reminded you that he only had eyes for you. In fact, he always showered you with compliments and all of his compliments were genuine and came natural to him, helping you immensely with your self-consciousness.
Unfortunately, whilst you enjoyed how engaging Cillian was with you every day, like a teenager in love, with the constant text messages and calls, your father soon got suspicious and confronted you about.
****
“Dad, I am almost 22, you don’t need to be spying on me” you said somewhat frustrated as he asked you who you were talking to every day.
“You live under my roof and you answer me young lady” he said harshly and you couldn’t help but roll your eyes just as your mother stepped in, trying to calm him down. Your father was much older, approaching sixty and fairly old school in the way he expected you and your sister to behave.
“A friend…I am talking to a friend” you explained and your father asked again, telling you not to lie to him because he would know.
“And this friend of yours, you can’t meet him…you just text and talk? You can’t bring him to our house and introduce him?” your father asked along with a million other questions.
“No, I can’t. he lives in Dublin and I, most certainly, wouldn’t bring him into this…” you said somewhat irritated by the interrogation.
“Dublin, huh? So, you met him when you visited Denise?” he asked and you nodded.
“It’s not her brother, is it? Because I really don’t want you to get involved with him. I don’t like this family and their views” your father said harshly, causing you to chuckle.
“Their views?” you asked somewhat surprised and your father nodded.
“Yes, their views on what’s right and wrong. If I recall correctly, this girl you call your friend was going out with someone of the same gender for a while. God didn’t tell us to do this but her parents obviously didn’t have an issue with it which, apparently is called new age parenting. Everything is pro choice and lets their children decide what is best for them even if they lack experience” your father went on to say and you couldn’t help but shake your head at his absurd commentary but, he continued and you soon learned what had happened between your parents and Denise’s parents many years ago, before which your mother had called Denise’s mother her friend as well.
According to your father, Cillian had voiced his opinion to your father when it was found out that your sister was pregnant following a short affair with a man she had met through university.
Cillian’s ex wife had told your sister that she had options, causing your father to get rather angry with her, which is when Cillian stepped in, supporting what Denise’s mother had said.
She had offered your sister help but your father considered this to be a betrayal and, whilst your mother maintained contact with Denise’s mother for a while, your father refused to get involved with Denise’s family thereafter.
Cillian’s often all so public views angered him and he made this very clear. He didn’t want you to be involved with his children and you couldn’t help but laugh about the irony of it all when you found out about this incident.
“Jesus Dad, that was years ago and not everyone has to have the same views as you” you said before confirming that you weren’t seeing Denise’s brother.
“No, they don’t, but I am just looking out for you and, instead of acting the way you do, throwing yourself at guys with new age ideas, I would much prefer if you met a nice young catholic man” your father explained, causing your mother to fume in anger with him.
“Throwing myself at guys? Listen, I am not sure what slut you think I am but it’s nice to know that you think so little of me” you said before storming upstairs and into your room.
Having to deal with this crap bothered you and you knew that, when this semester came to an end, you could be moving out now that you saved enough money for a bond and rent.
*****
As the evening went on, you spent all of your time in your room, reading a book until, finally, at around 9 o’clock you saw a notification on Skype.
‘Hey Beautiful’ Cillian said as you picked up and popped in your headphones.
Cillian apologised for calling through so late and informed you that he was finally able to speak to Laura, the woman he was seeing before you.
He knew that you wanted to know about it and he had no problem telling you what you needed to hear while telling you that you had absolutely nothing to worry about.
It was Laura’s first day back on set after a week-long break and Cillian told you that she wasn’t exactly impressed when he stood her down.
‘She probably likes you…I can understand that’ you said calmly but Cillian told you that he was pretty clear with her about what this was between them.
‘Well, in retrospect, I shouldn’t have gotten involved with her’ he went on and you were quite happy to change the topic by this point and told him that you were aching for him.
‘Well, I am not sure that I can help you with that’ Cillian chuckled.
‘We could have Skype sex I suppose’ you giggled.
‘Skype Sex?’ Cillian laughed before telling you that he didn’t think that this would be a good idea since you were at home with your parents and you had previously complained about the thin walls of the house.
‘Oh Jesus Cillian, my father already thinks I am a slut, so I personally don’t care if anyone hears me getting myself off. I’ve got my earphones in and am the only one who can hear you and my door is locked’ you chuckled.
‘Your father thinks that you are a slut? Do you want to talk about that?’ Cillian asked concerned but you shook your head.
‘I rather not. You met him and know what he is like’ you explained.
‘I do. He takes God very seriously’ Cillian said before continuing on. ‘But, if you have problems at home you need to tell me please. You can stay at my apartment. I can get my house keeper to meet you there with the key’ he offered.
‘You said you were going to stay out of stuff between me and my parents just as I would stay out of matters between you and Denise’ you then said, reminding him on the conversation about your respective roles which you had three days ago.
‘Yes I did, but I can’t if I have to worry about you’ Cillian said firmly.
‘There is no need to worry Cillian. I promise’ you reassured him. ‘Well, actually, I need you to worry about my sexual needs right now’ you then went on to say with sly grin.
‘Through Skype?’ Cillian asked again somewhat concerned.
‘Yes’ you said with a cheeky smile as you settled more into your bed with your laptop.
‘Alright then, show me what you are wearing” Cillian said as he cut straight to the point.
‘Can you see?’ you asked as you adjusted the cam and showed Cillian your dark blue lingerie.
‘Very nice…but…I think you would look even better if you were naked, don’t you think?’ Cillian said somewhat nervously and you nodded in agreement.
‘Well, I suppose I should strip for you and you should strip for me’ you giggled as you seductively took off your bra slowly, showing Cillian your perky breasts through the camera.
You heard him inhale sharply as he watched you and took his t-shirt off at the same time, leaving him in nothing but his CK briefs.
Without words you then scooted back on the bed and removed your undies, allowing him to watch before you sat down on the bed, spread eagle and naked, giving him a good view of your mound.
‘Jesus Y/N, you are so fucking beautiful and sexy…touch yourself for me, nice and slow’ Cillian breathed out and you let his soothing voice wash over you, knowing what he was trying to do and happily helping him succeed.
‘Like this?’ you moaned as you began to run circles over your clit with your fingers.
‘Yes, just like that babe’ Cillian groaned as he shuffled down his briefs and you were finally getting a good look of his hard cock.
‘Oh god, I want to stroke your cock so badly’ you moaned as you seductively opened your pussy lips with your fingers, opening yourself up before reaching for the black vibrator you kept in your bedside table.
‘Well, someone's particularly horny tonight’ Cillian chuckled as he watched you play with your pussy, and you could hear the smirk in his voice.
You mumbled a small "mhm," and he laughed.
‘Good, that's exactly how I like you, so naughty and needy’ Cillian said as he slowly began to stroke his hard member.
You barely registered his words enough to answer with another "mhm," but your subconscious managed it. Your weak answer elicited another delicious chuckle from the other end of the line.
"Why don't you show me how this little toy of yours works?” Cillian then asked as he watched you eagerly.
“I was just waiting for you to ask” you giggled as you began to run your fingers along your stomach and back up to your chest, leaving a trail of goosebumps their wake before reaching for the vibrator and turning it on.
“Put into your sweet pussy babe, let me see it” Cillian groaned and you moan in response, barely processing his words but still understanding enough to answer and do what he asked.
"I bet your pussy is already dripping” he said as you slid the vibrator into you slowly. He was right, you could feel your wetness pooling.
“I am so fucking wet and I wish it would be your cock inside me” you moaned as you began to stroke the toy in and out of you.
Cillian was groaning on the other side, his eyes full of lust and desire for you and you let out a quiet moan as you watched him with the same desire and hunger while you were pleasuring yourself.
“Good girl, keep going…” Cillian tells you and you moan again hearing it.
“Tell me how much you are aching for my cock” he then said you moaned again.
“I want your cock so badly, fuck…I want your cum inside me, dripping out of my wet little pussy” you moaned, eliciting a groan from Cillian as he began to stroke his cock harder and faster.
“Such a naughty needy girl, aren’t you? I can’t wait to be inside you again and make you cum over and over again” Cillian said with a laboured breath and you are barely listening at this point.
“I want you to cum for me and show me this dripping pussy when you do…I fucking love hearing your moans, so fucking sexy…common babe….let go” Cillian said, knowing that you were close and your orgasm rolled over you as soon as the word 'cum' left his lips, and although your sensitive clit was screaming at your hand to stop, you couldn't.
‘Oh god fuck, yes…’ you moaned as you came hard and fast.
“That’s it babe, don’t stop” he instructed as your moans continuously spilled from your mouth, and you were not even sure what you were saying or if you were forming words at all. The only thing in your head is a deliciously heavy fog and Cillian’s voice guiding you to do what he wanted.
“Don’t stop, keep fucking your sweet little pussy babe” Cillian ordered as he knew you weren’t done and, just as he did, you let out a high-pitched moan, bordering on a scream, as an even stronger orgasm washed over your body.
‘Cum for me babe…I want to see all this cum’ you moaned in return, focusing on the delicious image in front of you as Cillian was stroking his cock and, just when you finally come back down you heard Cillian groan loudly.
“Fuck” he groaned as he stroked his cock hard and fast you watched rope after rope of cum spurt onto his stomach.
‘Oh god, what a waste, I want to lick your cum off your skin so badly” you breathed out as Cillian came down from his high slowly and used a tissue to clean himself up.
‘Stop saying those things or you have to stay on the line for another twenty minutes at least’ Cillian chuckled as he could feel his manhood stir again.
‘Well, I think you shouldn’t cum again until you come to visit me in Galway the weekend after next…I want you to save it all for me’ you said, causing Cillian to cock an eyebrow as he pulled his briefs back up.
‘Fat chance babe’ he chuckled, knowing that going without an orgasm for nine days would be rather difficult for him.
Eventually, after a lot of begging, he agreed to try but he wouldn’t be able to make you any promises to this effect.
***
The following day, you went to work and then university thereafter but, when you eventually returned home, your father was in a worse mood than ever before.
‘Can you explain this to me?’ he asked angrily as soon as you walked through the door and you couldn’t help but gulp when he pointed to a white box which he had placed on the living room table.
‘You went through my personal belongings’ you huffed out as the box contained some lingerie and intimate items, including toys, that you were hiding in the bottom of your dresser.
‘Again Y/N, this is my house, my rules and I don’t want my daughter to own filth like this’ he said, after having heard small pieces of your conversation with Cillian on Skype the evening before.
It was obvious to you that your father was appalled and you were outraged that he had been snooping through your room and, as you would later learn, had even tried to access your computer.
‘I can’t fucking believe you dad. These are my personal belongings and you have no right to go through them’ you huffed out and, just as you did, you could feel a sharp strike across your face.
‘Get this shit out of my house and talk to me with some respect’ he said harshly, leaving you speechless and in tears as he walked away, leaving your cheek burning red.

Day 6 - Parents/Matchmaker
May 20th – Parents/Matchmaker
My final entry for Maiko Week ‘22, hosted by @idonthatemaiko
Cheers!
“Do you think they’ll like them?” The Fire Lord whispered across the table to his wife, the two watching on as their daughter and son bustled in the kitchen.
Mai made a show of inhaling deeply before gracing a faux-ponder on her angled face. “They haven’t burned anything yet and they’re nearly done. I’d say we’re in the clear.”
Across the way, six-year-old Anzen stood atop a footstool, watching on as his older sister guided tray after tray of cookies in and out of the oven. His black hair was pulled into a loose topknot, expertly done by Mai earlier that morning. Smears of flour ran here and there on his face and clothes. Baby fat still hung to the boy’s cheeks. Underneath, his face bore an uncanny resemblance to his father. Though his eyes were all his mother’s.
Izumi stuck her tongue out at the corner of her mouth in concentration. She took her role of baking very seriously.
“Look at her little pout, she looks just like you right now,” Mai smiled to Zuko.
“Right now she does. She’s a mini you the rest of the time.”
“Ugh, I’m really hoping she lets us off easy and doesn’t go through an angsty teen phase.”
Zuko smiled. “If you stayed with me through mine, I’m certain we can handle our daughter.” He paused to sip some tea. “Anzen will definitely give both of us a run for our money, though.”
Mai chuckled in agreement.
“They’ll both make excellent leaders someday. I think we’re doing something right,” Zuko mused.
Mai put her hand over his. Their daughter, ever inquisitive, had asked over dinner who cooks for the servants and keepers of the palace. Izumi was dismayed when her parents told her that the staff cooks their own meals either at home or here in the palace.
“But that’s a lot of work for them, isn’t it?”
“It definitely can be, Zumi.”
Her face twisted in concentration for the rest of the evening, all the way until bedtime. After a story or two, Izumi posed an excellent solution.
“Momma, you and Dad know how to cook right? From your times before me and Anzie?”
From her seat on the edge of her daughter’s bed, Mai tucked Izumi’s hair behind her ears.
“We do, sweetheart. Is that something you’re interested in learning?”
“It’s just, what if we all make a dinner for the servants? They work hard a lot. Maybe they deserve a break.”
“That’s a fine idea, Zumi.”
Mai and Zuko discussed their daughter’s proposition in bed that evening. A week later, the palace staff were invited to congregate in a larger dining hall at 6pm sharp.
The kids were in charge of cookies; an easy, high-volume dessert. In the morning, Mai helped Izumi and Anzen with the first few batches. After her children got the hang of it, she sat back with her husband. The two nursed tea and did preparation work for their part in the dinner. Vegetables were peeled, meat chopped, spices measured, and several large pots of rice stood ready to be heated.
With the last tray of cookies out of the oven, Izumi helped her brother down from his step stool. The two came bounding across the kitchen to their parents. Zuko caught his children in a platypus-bear hug, his long hair tickling their flour-coated cheeks.
“The cookies taste good, Dadda!” Anzen exclaimed.
Izumi pulled back. “They’re all cooling now! Do you think they’ll like their dinner?”
Zuko smiled and met his wife’s eyes briefly. Their chests swelled with pride.
“I know,” he ensured, “that they will love it.”
And they did. The gardeners and housekeepers, cooks and sous chefs, maintenance crew and guards, and all of the individuals who aided in the wellbeing of the palace.
The dinner was a tremendous success and a tradition began. The royal family never missed a year of the feast they cooked to say thank you to those who kept the palace afloat.
Perhaps,
Zuko mused,
they were doing something right as parents.

Okay so Mermaid Power leaked early so here are my initial thoughts (7/18/22) SPOILERS AHEAD!
The video I saw is chopped up a bit so I missed a couple details but here are all my very first thoughts from seeing the movie for the first time.
- ISLA IS BACK - YAY! But she barely gets to do anything - BOO! The Gemstone Dolphins aren’t back - sort of yay because I hate IRL dolphins, but also boo because they were admittedly cute, and I just wanted to know where they were.
- Marlo is back and wow her motivation is expanded upon in a pretty cool way - she was drawn to the sea because her grandmother told stories of mermaids, and I guess maybe she was one too? That part of the video was cut out, but I think Marlo may actually be a mermaid descendant! That’s cool. But I do wish she had gotten more proper screen time; it kind of felt like she was tacked on because she was in DM. But still, I like that she got a redemption.
- Aquaria is a disabled mermaid!! She has a prosthetic tail!! That’s great. Her brother goes through the typical “has to learn his disabled sibling isn’t helpless” arc, but I like that at the end she thanks Chelsea for not treating her different. Aquaria’s arc is just about wanting to develop her powers, not feeling bad for not being a “normal” mermaid or something like that.
- Malibu not having a mermaid power was an interesting choice, not sure how I feel about it yet.
- Brooklyn is a Mermaid of Fire, Skipper is Air, Stacie is Earth, and Chelsea is Water. I must now proceed to overthink the implications of this.
- The songs were short and honestly not very memorable.
- So many new and great designs for the mermaids; I really liked that. I don’t quite like that some of the mermaids have multicolor skintones while other had human skintones, because it just seemed inconsistent and weird.
- The Mermaid Moon thing gave me H20 vibes.
- The fight against piles of trash gave me Dora Saves the Mermaid vibes...which was weird.
- Speaking of the trash thing, I like that the movie talks a bit about ocean pollution. I just wish they had given more time to it.
- I guess my biggest criticsm at the time of writing this that too much was going on and not a lot got properly developed. The Mermaid Moon, the challenge to find the Power Keeper, plus have to bring Marlo back in and make her cause trouble for about 5 minutes, and then Isla is here but not very much, oh, and don’t pollute. I think they needed to trim out the edges of their story tree a bit.
Overall, I actually enjoyed it more than BPA & BCBD (and TLB of course). Very messy and too short but cute and fun.

Task 000: Peripheral Vision
Of Cain and Abel Of Caleb and Aron Of Connor and Austin
Name: Clifford Austin Talbot
Nickname: Austin
Faceclaim: Henry Eikenberry
Age: 22
Circle: Night
Occupation: Bartender at Filthy Fenrir
Clifford, or Austin as he prefers to be called following the horrifying realization due to his peers that Clifford was the name of a fucking huge red dog, is the second Talbot son. As such, the pressure resting on his shoulders feels like feathers compared to the two tons that lay heavy on his brother. Austin has never known worry or strife and if Samuel could look forward and see his ancestor he would spit on the ground in disgust. This boy is, for lack of a better word, a real problem.
Equal parts ignorant and charming, Austin spends his days doing what he wants: playing pretend that he is someone important. He all but runs Filthy Fenrir when his father’s back is turned. And then on his days off he’s prancing around the strip, drinking shots to show off to girls he claims to want equal rights for -- as long as he gets a kiss out of it. Why his parents bother to indulge these fantasies is anyone’s guess. Perhaps they just don’t want to deal with him today. And who could blame them.
At nine years old, when presented with this little baby, Connor’s nose had wrinkled and he had passed the boy back to his mother with a simple and easy, “I don’t like him.”
It had been charming at the time in that way children are. Of course he didn’t want a brother; did anyone when they had spent nine years as an only child? But as the days went on and their relationship fractured instead of fused, it became clear to everyone the two would simply never get along. When his parents were off running their pack, Connor was attending parent teacher conferences for a 7 year old who kept biting his classmates, standing on desks in attempts to start a revolution, and trying to kiss girls on the playground. It was no wonder that animosity formed.
Things only got worse for them when Austin was allowed to coast by at the local university studying philosophy.
When people would ask him where his younger brother had run off to, Connor, not even bothering to look up from his book, had replied, “Am I my brother’s keeper now?”
Whether the younger Talbot does what he does because he genuinely wants his brother to like him or he simply likes seeing him seethe with rage is anyone’s guess. The fact of the matters is, Connor wants nothing to do with his brother’s rash and stupid decisions. And yet he is the one always cleaning them up.
Now the pain comes from years of pent up discontent. Only when Connor looks at him these days, the same age he was when his life well and truly fell apart, there’s a strange sort of familial worry there, a protectiveness that becomes increasingly difficult to ignore. He wants nothing more than to keep him from making the mistakes he did.
Hopefully, he can.
