I understand that there’s a limit to how customized the dialogue in Baldur’s Gate can be, AND that most people design their characters to look like generic instagram baddies, but it still tickles me that npcs in this game greet me with casual unguarded friendliness when I look like this:

i find it a very interesting choice that house md ends on enjoy yourself rather than you can’t always get what you want or maybe even the actual lyrical version of teardrop by massive attack.

enjoy yourself is the most optimistic of the songs and i’ve seen people complain that it kind of comes from nowhere and the actual meaning of the song especially considering that post-canon, wilson will die and house is dead figuratively (and will probably die literally with wilson), the song is not only a call to the viewer to live their lives to the fullest but asks house and wilson to enjoy the time they have left as they drive away from us, their stories are fundamentally over.

enjoy yourself is only referenced one other time in the show when hallucination amber sings it to house at a restaurant just before the hallucination finale of season 5. this presentation of enjoy yourself by “ghost” amber, someone who haunts house from his guilt over her death and near destruction of his relationship with wilson as a result is also a callback to her death in the first place. house is so scared by hallucination amber singing this song to him he begs wilson over the phone to pick him up, the exact request that killed amber. the optimistic song about living out your life to the fullest sung by the manifestation of his guilt, someone who died too soon also coupled with kutner dying 3 episodes prior to this, just makes the final use of this song so fascinating. the house writers obviously called back to this moment because it was house’s fear of death and change that made the initial scene scary. meanwhile house accepts wilson’s death and his death in the finale after healing and growing. this is why i think enjoy yourself is the perfect finale song. the house writers are telling us that they accept that their time is up and we should too, even though death is horrible and tragic and scary at the same time, everybody dies.

(Not super confident writing for Cod Ghosts, but this idea has been haunting me for months. For a while, I kept seeing posts about how Keegan is a weirdo, and like imagine if he had a partner who was the walking definition of "match their freak")

None of the Ghosts believed Keegan whenever he mentioned the pretty thing he's got waiting at home. When he mentions his sweetheart, the others always makes jokes like "your partner in Canada, right".

You can't really blame them for thinking he's lying. Keegan is kind of a weirdo. It's like there's no filter between his brain and his mouth anymore, and on more than one occasion, he's spoken his intrusive thoughts aloud.

So, when they finally have a rare moment of downtime, Keegan convinces you to join the team for drinks. They all stare as you two approach, absolutely gob smacked that Keegan wasn't making you up.

Maybe you're a little overdressed, but it's so rare for Keegan to be home anymore, and it's even more rare that you get the chance to go out anymore. On top of that, you're meeting the most important people in his life right now. First impressions matter, and you want to make a good one. Er, well, as good as you can.

Things start off well, just casual conversation as the other Ghosts are dying to know more about you. None of them can believe such a pretty, and awfully normal, person like yourself is with Keegan. An assumption that's quickly proven wrong.

There's a lull in the conversation, one that Keegan easily fills asking, "Think I could break this glass with my bare hands?"

Simultaneously, all the Ghosts turn to look at you, waiting to see how you handle Keegan and his lack of a filter.

"I mean, sure, but then you'd have to eat the glass. Can't be leaving a mess behind," you reply casually,

"Is this the good glass, or the bad glass?" Keegan continues, sliding his pint towards you.

You take the cup, sliding your finger across the rim for a moment. Taking a sip of his drink, you scrunch your face up in disgust, sliding the drink back to him. "Good glass, bad drink. So I won't be helping you eat it."

Keegan sighs sadly, nodding his head in agreement. The beer at this particular bar does suck.

The rest of the Ghosts stare at you in a mix of surprise and disappoint. Not disappointed in you, but in themselves, for thinking that Keegan's partner wouldn't be as weird as him.

WAIT I JUST HAD A THOUGHT

okay so the map. the map from pvpciv. this one:

evbo is standing where the swordciv is. we know this because he refers to it at the end when talking about how new players have to reach their respective civilizations. because of that, we can reasonably assume that tabi is standing at the axeciv's location (which is wonderful foreshadowing btw).

that leaves the bowciv and tridentciv. but what about the shields? during parrot's explanation, he doesn't mention that they have a civilization. in fact, he doesn't mention them at all. so we can assume that they're not a major faction in this world.

and if they're not a major faction, and they don't have a civilization, where are they supposed to go? what are they supposed to do? at first, i assumed that the shields are in swordciv because a) they're allied with the swords or b) they're sent there as punishment like everyone else. there's also sword and shield imagery to be made there from an out of universe perspective.

but then i realized that they're probably scattered all over, regardless of whether or not the other civs are structured similarly to swordciv. swords can block most attacks in minecraft. the only trouble i could see them having are with the axes and bows, since axes can disable a shield and piercing arrows can go through them.

if they're structured like swordciv? great. keeps the players in line and enforces the system. perfect for making sure good soldiers are put out.

if they're not structured like swordciv? i can imagine there being a little trouble, but if we assume that sword are the only ones that can't have anything else in their first slot, the shields will be fine. just put that shit in your offhand and you're good.

but i'm interested in why they don't have their own civ. it's not like they can't attack other players if the shields aren't super glued to their hands, and even then items can be put in the offhand (like a flint and steel). did they just not want to? was there something keeping them from doing so?

and there's also the fact that the guards in swordciv leveled up by getting their shields hit. don't you think if hit points were a concern they wouldn't want to get hit? they have durability like everyone else, after all. i get that it might've been hard to figure out a leveling up system for an item that's purely defensive, but it's weird. it's always possible that the leveling up system is purely as swordciv invention to get guards on all the different levels. but if it isn't? if the shields do, by some freaky law of the universe, have to get hit in order to level up?

that shit's weird. the shields are weird. they don't have a civilization and they aren't mentioned as a major part in the narrative. either i'm thinking too hard and evbo_ just didn't consider them important, or there's more that's going to be revealed in season 2.
