In the first season that's exactly what they were. Master and slave. It wasn't bully to love romance because both of them got enjoyment from their unequal power dynamic. However, as time went on Kiyoi didn't get satisfaction from it. He preferred those in-between moments with. That's what made him fall for Hira.

It's Hira that would be fine with it but that's due to lack of self confidence. Which is not how it should be. Huge shout out for the show to make that clear. They did a brilliant job of showing the layers. Like hey, these are high school students, one of which has really low self-esteem. That's not someone who can actively choose to be a slave. That's not consent.

The show did an amazing job of indicating that there is nothing wrong with D/s but that being a slave in this context wasn't right. And their right. Besides the fact that we can clearly see that isn't what Kiyoi wants. He enjoys Hira's acts of service but he wants to help him be the better version of himself and not to be seen as a God.

He was so happy when Hira said he wanted to take a picture of him on the same level as him. Not as a boyfriend but as a professional with his name attached. Because this meant that Hira no longer saw Kiyoi as unobtainable.

Hi Luta! I'm really spitballing here but I had a thought about My Beautiful Man and Hira. I don't think Hira would necessarily let Kiyoi top. Not in a controlling way but in a servicing way. We don't really get the see a ton how they view sex but part of Hira's submission that we have seen really emphasizes service and Kiyoi craves attention and care

See how Hira talks. That is a very, very deep subby way of talking. It's just how they think. They worship their Doms and do think of them as a higher being. The problem is that Kiyoi previously acted as a Master but once he developed feelings, he just wants to be Dom. And Hira really doesn't know how to flip that switch. This is not an abnormal scenario.
