Top 5 Couple Fights

Oooooooh this is fun! Thank you for a relatively easy category because so often the fights in these shows are unearned and it is very frustrating. I'm still limiting myself to 2023!

Wen and Alan, Moonlight Chicken

This fight felt real, it felt lived in, and it felt heartbreaking even though we only saw some of it. These two men love each other, but love isn't enough to keep them together, and that realization is as heartbreaking as the fight itself.

My Personal Weatherman

I am obsessed with the fights in My Personal Weatherman because the characters often don't know they're in one, or are in two different fights at the same time. This is all tied to how much I love how well the miscommunication is done in this show. These fights are legible based on what we know about these characters and what they've seen, even when they're completely unnecessary, and I adore that. Of course the best one is the ending fight and not just because Segasaki ties up Yo's wrists in his shirt.

Jack O'Frost

[Not enough gifs of this actual fight and I need to finish this list so this is what you get]. The fight at the very start of this show escalated so quickly, at first I wasn't sure about it even while I appreciated the performances and the intimate way it was shot. But when we get the backstory and we finally understand how much has been withheld and said vs. not said between them, and where their anxieties were rooted and the source of these big feelings, this fight makes so much more sense. This is a show that really benefits from being watched more than once.

La Pluie

Patts was pushed and pushed and pushed, and he lashed out in his insecurity, and when he asked for reassurance (this lineeee) Saengtai refused to give it to him and instead lashed out out of his own insecurity. This was a painful fight that was fully earned; all of the characters and their choices were legible even as they were infuriating. And it led to a critical awakening of Saengtai who was so caught up in his own sad boy narrative he hadn't realized how much he was hurting everyone around him.

My Beautiful Man S2

Kiyoi and Hira's communication issues continuing past S1 is very believable. I said elsewhere that Hira's work on his self-worth is more like a spiral than a straight line and that's very relatable and realistic. Kiyoi being hurt by Hira not valuing Kiyoi's feelings was such an important lesson for Hira to get more than once. Again, so earned, and resulted in the characters self-reflecting and moving a little closer to whatever a healthy relationship means for these two lol

Laws of Attraction

How much do I Love Tinn seeing right through Charn and Charn being big mad at him for Perceiving him so well? All of their fights are so good because they're about boundaries and mutual respect at their core, and they actually listen to one another and are based on how well they know one another (rather than what so often happens, when the characters seem to forget who the person they're in love with actually is). This barely counts as fight but I love it and it's my list so it stays.

Mr. Cinderella S2

Nobody but me and like 2 other people watched this show, but I'm actually obsessed with the couple fight in Mr. Cinderella s2 so thank you for the chance to rant about it on main some more. I need to start by saying: this plot is ridiculous and the ending sucks. But within this show, Dung and Khoa have an established relationship that has been tested in S1 and is being tested harder in S2, and to a point, they actually stand together and weather the storm, and it was rewarding to watch. And then slowly everything happening ("everything" here being an ABSURD amount of melodrama) starts to wear on Khoa, who sees himself as the one solely responsible for everything, and he unlearns some of what he learned in s1, he stops relying on Dung as his support, stops telling Dung what's going on because he doesn't want to burden him, and stops trusting Dung's word about what is happening. And so, when the jealousy plot hits, it's actually believable that Dung would be mad at Khoa, not for cheating, but for not respecting Dung as a partner in their relationship. It's well done, I wish so much that it were in a better show so that I could actually recommend anyone watching (I don't). I've seen this trope (assumed cheating) done so badly and so unearned in so many shows, this was so refreshing.

What I love about the way they fight in this show is that, beyond it being earned etc. etc., the dialogue is so raw. They repeat themselves, they just yell over one another, they get rude, they try saying something to de-escalate and it gets worse instead. This is not a carefully crafted speech, or a single perfectly delivered devastating line; this is raw emotion. I recognize this fight, I've been in this fight, this is what I sound like when I fight lol And we see them really fight at least twice, and the way they fight in ep8 has changed as a result of the earlier fight is also SO good.

There's a T/N at the end of the episode that for some reason kept getting jumbled up when I encoded the episode. If it's hard for you to read, you can see in the description box of the episode what it's supposed to say.

This episode is told largely from Kiyoi's POV and it very much warns us of how the story is going to develop. Lots of little seeds are planted throughout the episode.

For this season I decided to translate the opening & ending credits as well, because they're written from Hira's (OP) and Kiyoi's (ED) perspectives and I feel like they add a good layer to the story!

okay ranted to irl about this but.

what a fcking show.

if I had to compare the satisfaction of this show it'd probably be to haikyuu. like you reach the end credits of the movie and look back to ep1 of S1 and every fcking thing makes sense. so much. not a single beat of the plot was out of nowhere, and the character arcs.

god the progress and development of the characters.

not a single action out of place. kiyoi practically drowning in his affection and regard for hira, for someone who never left him alone, yet somehow made him feel like the only one in the world. his patience, the tenderness with which he handles hira is a magic to watch.

make no mistake, while kiyoi maybe the subject of the show, the star is Hira (coincidentally hira or heera means diamond in my language). he takes a step forward and two steps back and it makes sense. hira is someone to whom words never came when he wanted them to. that he's clumsy with them is a given. but also the routes his mind takes, how he rationalises things, and how kiyoi helps him grow out of that sort of rationalisation is so well done, with proper regard to the character's personality.

absolutely loved any and all side characters involved. noguchi san was a delight, esp how he described hira. I loved that the classroom jock ended up with the simple, nerdy class president. i loved everything, the depiction of relationships under spotlight, fan culture and it's good and bad, and the overall feel of progress.

i have more thoughts but god maybe I'll rewatcha gain and collect them further but yeah. what a masterpiece in story and cinematography.

My Beautiful Man Season 2 Episode 4

Hira has such a poetic soul. In some his behavior would be creepy but it's not for him because he has the heart of a romantic and the soul of a poet. While Kiyoi is passion personified. He's learned to make his outside look normal unless he is with Hira, then Hira gets his different levels of flame.

Even when these two are miscommunicating, you always feel the love. You don't worry about if it's going to work out because these two are truly the other half of each other. And poor confused Hira is such a subby sub. That's not something Kiyoi wants to change. You can tell from the way he smiles when Hira says certain things but he doesn't want Hira to treat him as unattainable.

Reunion! I'm so fucking excited!

Right now the gang seems to have matured. Aw, Hira don't break my heart.

Omg! I love them so much. The growth is tremendous. Hira learning to talk and Kiyoi learning when to give support. The way Kiyoi is growing as a Dom. Reading Hira, knowing what he needs to feel fullfilled. Knowing when to degrade and when to encourage. And fuck the growth in communication! I love it.

You guys! The way Hira put his scarf down for Kiyoi to sit on! Ugh!

Then Hira has to go and prove him right. Yelling sorry at the top of his lungs. I swear, I love him so much your honor.

The way Kiyoi gets excited for Hira. This is when his passion shows. It's so beautiful. Then Hira tells Kiyoi his dream and Kiyoi is just melting because this is all and everything. But Hira is still submissive so he asks if it's okay. That just made it that much more special for me.

"I'm so happy, I'll make it a family heirloom." I swear to all that is unholy Hira, you are killing me. "I'm gonna die. i'm so happy, I could die." 🤣🤣🤣 Fuck me! I love them so much. "How to preserve chocolate." I'm gonna say it again. Heart of a romantic and soul of a poet. And then passion!

My Beautiful Man fic: The explosive exhibition

pairing: Hira Kazunari x Kiyoi Sou

summary:  It's been a few weeks since Kiyoi and Hira started dating. Things are going well, maybe a little too well.

What happens when Shirota shows up to Hira's university?

And what happens when he's clearly still salty about Hira punching him?

How do Kiyoi and Hira handle someone from their past that knows exactly how to poke their sore spots?

Disclaimer: This takes place in between season one and two but I wrote it before season two had come out so certain things might not line up perfectly. I posted this on AO3 a while back but I corrected some things and made some changes so it fits a little more now that I’ve seen the second season. Nevertheless I hope you enjoy.

Boyfriend. The fact that this role is prescribed to Kiyoi in Hira’s life is still a thought that leaves him feeling giddy. The idea that he’s in a dream that could cruelly end any minute, is slowly ebbing away as the days go by. The excitement stays but the anxiety lessens every time he sees Kiyoi. Every smile, every touch and every word.

As harsh as they may seem on the surface, those words laced with love and care are his biggest confirmation. Confirmation that he never got in high school. Kiyoi, a beautiful man, is in love with him.

“What are you looking at?”

Kiyoi’s voice breaks Hira’s trance and brings him back to where he’s standing in front of his boyfriend’s practice room. A frown adorns his beautiful features as Kiyoi looks at Hira. When no answer comes, he speaks again:

“What’s going on in your weird head now?”

His words no longer have the harsh bite to them that they did in high school. It’s only been a few weeks since they started dating but a lot has happened. Hira and Kiyoi got to know each other. Not as the king and his servant, but as partners. Hira now knows what Kiyoi is like and he’s proud that he’s becoming a pro in recognizing what Kiyoi is like underneath the cold attitude.

This fact alone would’ve been enough to send high school him into a frenzy. If only the Hira from the past could hear the sweet nothings Kiyoi whispers in his ear when they cuddle late at night.

Late at night, when the moonlight and stars are all that stops the world from plunging into complete darkness. Well, the moonlight, the stars and Kiyoi. Because there is no amount of moonlight that can fill Hira with more warmth than Kiyoi does simply by existing. He doesn’t want to lose that, not even to his best friend.

Kazuki Koyama and Hira have started speaking again. Hira almost expected Kiyoi to order him to stay away from Kazuki. And whether it be bad habit or just the leftovers of the blind obedience he used to move under, Hira would’ve cut the other out of his life. But upon his boyfriend’s request, Hira talked about why Kazuki means a lot to him. The way he helped him during his lonely years. Years of wandering without purpose, desperately trying to get Kiyoi out of his mind. Kiyoi surprised both Hira and Kazuki by texting the latter that Hira would be going to dinner with him. Hira and Kazuki spent some time together over dinner upon Kiyoi’s request and decided to stay friends. Hira even decided to stay in the photography club. Now that he had his high school sweetheart back in his life he wanted to spend as much time with him as possible but Kiyoi encouraged him to stay. The man claimed that Hira should keep up with his hobbies and just like with anything that Kiyoi says, Hira agreed immediately.

All of that has led to where they are now. Kiyoi is going to rehearsals for his play at the Silkroad café and Hira is meeting with Kazuki at his place to discuss the exhibition the photography club is holding. As much as the thought of a bunch of people seeing his photos fills him with anxiety, he did make a commitment to help them in this.

“Disgusting!” Kiyoi suddenly yells, pulling Hira out of his thoughts and back to where they are still standing in front of the practice building.

“W-w-what do you…” Hira trails off as he sees the small smile in the corner of the boy’s mouth. He looks down at his fingers and slowly entwines them with Kiyoi’s. The fact that bold touches like this are now able to happen without Kiyoi getting angry is still making his heart beat faster. That feeling will probably never go away. He takes a breath and looks up to see the other looking at him patiently, waiting for him to speak.

“Koyama and I won’t take long; we just need to discuss some of the logistics of the exhibition since I missed the last meeting. If you want, you can- “Hira gets interrupted by Kiyoi lifting their entwined hands up to Hira’s lips. Hira slowly leans in and gently kisses their hands, making Kiyoi smile.

“My own boyfriend thinks I’m a jealous toddler who doesn’t understand the concept of friends, how disgusting.” He quickly shakes his head; he doesn’t think that at all. Kiyoi is really smart, smarter than most people give him credit for. He is the king after all.

“Just do your best for the exhibition. I don’t want to be embarrassed by my own partner when I visit.” Hira barely has any time to react before Kiyoi presses his hands to Hira’s mouth one last time before turning around and going inside.

“I’ll do my best!” Hira screams at his back, Kiyoi waves at him without turning around and it brings a smile to his face. He will do his best. He won’t make himself a burden to Kiyoi. He’ll do his best and show off his pictures to the best of his abilities, even if he feels that those abilities might be lacking compared to Kiyoi’s amazing talent in everything.

 -------The day of the exhibition-------

 Kiyoi puts down his phone camera after checking his appearance one last time. He used to check it religiously before leaving the house in high school. He didn’t know how deep Hira’s infatuation with him ran. If one bad hair day was enough for Hira to decide Kiyoi wasn’t worth the effort, he wasn’t going to risk it. Now that they are dating Kiyoi feels less of a reason to keep up the act that he doesn’t care. It still comes out when he’s embarrassed or angry but he’s slowly getting better at expressing himself. Besides, Hira still hasn’t quite gotten over the entire ‘Kiyoi is a king’ thing so he feels like he has to make an effort if he wants to make this relationship last.

He puts his phone away and contains his giddiness about seeing Hira’s work in all its glory.

He smooths out his facial features to the best of his abilities and tries to look as unbothered as always. He doesn’t need everyone else to see how whipped he is.

He enters the university building and follows the directions his boyfriend gave him. He tries not to think about what it would be like if he studied here with Hira. He has no desire to go for a higher education and with his grades in high school it’s logical that Hira does. But after years apart, some part of him wants to spend as much time together as possible. But as much as he orders Hira around to do things like get him a drink, he would never tell him to give up his education for him. He’s not motivated or enthusiastic about a lot so everything Hira truly wants to do, he’ll let him. That’s why he convinced Hira to stay in the photography club. It’s the only thing he’s ever shown an interest in. Kiyoi knows what it’s like to have a dream and he would like Hira to be able to feel the same.

“Welcome!” a woman at the entrance tells him as she hands out pamphlets with what the exhibition holds. Kiyoi takes it and nods politely but doesn’t even look at the pamphlet as he pockets it. He’s only here for Hira anyway, he doesn’t really know a lot about photography besides what Hira has told him and experience in photoshoots. It doesn’t take long for him to find Hira, mainly because Hira seemingly found him first. His big eyes are already stuck on Kiyoi as if it’s the first time he’s seeing him. Even though they slept in the same bed last night, Hira still looks as love struck as he did in high school.

Kiyoi relishes in the attention in a way he never does with other people. He can feel more peoples’ eyes on him but can’t find it in him to care. He makes a b-line for where Hira is standing with the Koyama kid and other people Kiyoi only knows as his club members. Kazuki notices Hira staring and smoothly hides the hurt expression that threatens to take over when he realizes Hira abandoned him halfway through a conversation to stare at the one who just walked in. Kiyoi decides not to think about the pride that swells in his chest when he thinks about that.

“Kiyoi,” Hira greets breathlessly. Kiyoi nods at him and gives him a small smile before quickly greeting everyone else in the group. He met them for the first time not so long ago, so they acknowledge his existence and then return to their conversations when Kiyoi turns his back on them to listen to Hira. The one he assumes is the senior that Hira told him is the leader of the club keeps talking about how they should stand next to their own photos and answer any potential questions people may have. Hira and Kiyoi completely miss the explanation about the booth with products for sale as they are busy talking about how Kiyoi styled his hair differently today. Kiyoi notices the senior getting annoyed at the distraction, and he can even feel Kazuki glaring. He sighs before grabbing Hira by the arm and pulling him in to whisper in his ear:

“I’m going to take a look around the place, don’t embarrass yourself while I’m gone. I’ll be back in a bit.” He doesn’t wait for Hira’s response and just walks away, leaving a flustered Hira behind that gingerly touches his ear.

He watches as Kiyoi walks away, slowly he returns his attention to the others who have since dispersed, clearly done with the briefing. He tries to focus on the exhibition and not Kiyoi’s beautiful face as he recalls what Kazuki told him yesterday. Right, stand next to the booth and answer questions about his pictures. This is far outside of his comfort zone, but he’s made a commitment and he’ll do Kiyoi proud.

Or at least that’s what his brain tells him, his shaking hands and wobbly legs don’t seem to carry the same sentiment. His section is mostly filled with teachers and quick visits from strangers, where other people have groups of family and friends lingering in theirs. He doesn’t really mind and tries to focus on something other than Kiyoi wandering around. He still catches him striding into the bathroom from the corner of his eye. He’s so focused on trying to stay focused, that he completely misses the person walking up to him.

“Hi-hi! Still stuck behind that camera I see.” Shirota walks up to Hira without even glancing at the pictures he supposedly came for. Hira can feel the anxiety claw its way back up his throat.

“S-Sh-Shirota s-san, what are you doing h-here?” His voice comes out as quiet and slow as it did in high school. It’s as if the appearance of his old high school classmate was enough to send Hira spiralling back into that headspace. The last time he saw him was at graduation when he was still avoiding Hira’s gaze because he punched him. Yes, that’s the strongest memory Hira has of him. The way he dared to dump juice on Kiyoi. He still remembers the anger and bravery that filled his chest when he saw how Kiyoi simply stood there and took the abuse. But it seems that with the departure of Kiyoi, that bravery also disappeared.

“I was in the area when I ran into a friend of mine, he said his club was holding an exhibition at his university. Who knew our little Hi-hi also showcased his silly photos here?” Hira’s brain was filled with so many thoughts and none at the same time. As Shirota spoke, he could feel Kazuki’s eyes on them. While Hira struggles to form a response, he feels the familiar hand on his back as Kazuki appears with his familiar polite smile. There’s a twinge of anger to it however, only visible for those who know how to look for it. Clearly Shirota didn’t notice it as he just chuckles and doesn’t even give Kazuki a chance to speak.

“Aww, who’s this? I’m Shirota, an old classmate of Hira’s. Did you get a boyfriend? Did you finally stop running after Kiyoi?” He directs the last two things at Hira and Hira tenses when Kiyoi’s name is brought up. This, Shirota does notice.

“Alright, no need to get wound up. I was just curious what happened. Did Kiyoi finally get rid of his stalker, or did you realize how mediocre he is?”

He shouldn’t punch him. They are on campus at a university event, it would definitely draw unwanted attention. But he brought Kiyoi’s name up in such a way. Maybe that’s what he’s trying to do. Get Hira in trouble by starting a fight. If he does something now there will definitely be enough witnesses to say Hira threw the first punch. Luckily Koyama, ever the diplomat, answers for him.

“What happened between him and Kiyoi-san is their business and no one else’s.” Hira is happy he defended them because his confidence in getting a sentence out without stuttering is very low.

“I’m Kazuki by the way, I’m also displaying my photos in the exhi- “

“Someone recently saw you two together.” Shirota says, completely ignoring Kazuki. “How did that happen?”

Hira tries to answer.

“K-k-Kiyoi is- “

“I mean he’s probably just amusing you. Entertained by how you trail behind him, he can’t possibly like- “

“SHIROTA-SAN!” Hira vaguely registers Kazuki screaming but his head is on a different planet. Whenever he’s around Kiyoi he can’t bring himself to think about such things but whenever he leaves, the doubts creep up. Every sweet word he’s ever told, how sincere they may be meant, gets twisted. Does Kiyoi really not love him? I mean, what does Hira even have to offer Kiyoi?

His breathing quickens and he feels like his lungs are being filled with water. He grabs his chest desperately trying to keep his head above water. The king can’t be in love with someone like him, he deserves better. Who is Hira to hold him back like this…

---------meanwhile--------

That toilet might’ve singlehandedly convinced Kiyoi that he never wants to go to university. From now on, whenever he’s doubting his career path he’ll just think about that disgusting toilet.

As he starts thinking about whether he’s been gone from Hira long enough, his phone vibrates. He can’t stop the disappointment he feels when he sees it’s not from Hira. He groans before accepting the call.

“Hello Kazuki-san, wh- “

“Come to Hira’s booth quickly, something happened to him.” Kiyoi’s head starts spinning. His eyes immediately scan the room, desperately looking for his boyfriend.

HIS boyfriend.

Whoever hurt him will learn the consequences from messing with the person he loves. He finally spots Hira; he vaguely registers Kazuki saying something on the phone but before he knows it, he’s running. Ignoring the people he bumps into and the people staring. Hira’s hunched over clenching his chest, something’s wrong. As he approaches, he’s surprised to see Shirota there. Did he do something?

“Ah Kiyoi? Here to support your bOYfrIEnD? I can’t believe you’re still hanging around with him.”

He waltzes straight up to Shirota with the simple plan to punch him in the face but one gasp from Hira is enough to derail those plans. He ignores both Shirota and Kazuki, who’s worryingly rubbing Hira’s back in a desperate attempt to calm him down. He grabs Hira by the arm and pulls him outside. He pushes people aside in a way that would be deemed rude in any other situation. Kiyoi can’t bring himself to care though. He pushes open a door to the hallway and is happy to find it mostly empty. He immediately turns to Hira who seemingly just registered that it was Kiyoi that pulled him away. For once he tears his eyes away from Hira’s enchanting gaze. He grabs him and tackles him into a hug.

“I love you Hira, I love you so much you disgusting idiot. I did back then, I do now, and I will in the future. Nothing will change that. I love you so much.” He repeats that and similar things over and over again.

Kazuki, who followed the two to the hallway watches as Kiyoi whispers I love you in Hira’s ear like a mantra. He never liked Kiyoi, he was arrogant, rude and frankly not worthy of dating Hira in his opinion. But this sight, Hira cuddled in Kiyoi’s arms and slowly calming down, makes him realize something. He realizes, Kiyoi loves Hira the same way he does, looks at him with the same love in his eyes. Hira will be fine. If he’s going to be in anyone’s arms, it should be Kiyoi’s.

The thought slowly sinks in as his rationality comes back. Kiyoi tried to contact him after high school, Kiyoi wanted to be with him, Kiyoi kissed him. That’s right, Kiyoi chose him. Kiyoi knows him well enough to know that what Hira needed was to get out of the crowd of watching eyes. Enough to quietly slip him a tissue because he knows he needs it.

I love you too

He doesn’t stutter when saying this. These words that he’s been preparing for years, feel almost uncomfortable to say to Kiyoi. The King. It feels selfish to keep him for himself.

But if it takes him being selfish to keep Kiyoi by his side, than he’ll take it.

It takes more than a year before Hira finally starts really believing it but deep down Hira knows;

Kiyoi, the beautiful man, loves him. More than anyone else

For anyone who was waiting to binge Utsukushii Kare and worried it would leave things hanging for the movie, I thought it was narratively satisfying and what I consider a safe watch, though there are clearly some issues that will still have to be dealt with. I’d say this season highlighted Kiyoi’s growth. I have to go back and watch season 1 because this wasn’t originally one of my favorite shows but it is now. Like I thought I got it, but now I ACTUALLY get it, and I need to re-watch from that perspective. I’m not sure how much of that was the season 2 itself or just me being in a different frame of mind, or having seen so many other shows by this point.

I am notoriously bad at keeping my lists down to any reasonable number so I'm going to give myself very specific parameters: This is a character who (a) I love so deeply I would do anything for them, (b) they would murder someone, and (c) there is someone in their show who, if they murdered, I would support their gay crime. Ok with those caveats let's see how I do [spoiler alert: I failed pretty badly].

Ji Hyun, The Eighth Sense

Ji Hyun came from the country to the big city, saw a hot guy on a poster and decided "yep I'm going to learn to surf even though I can't actually swim". He almost died and decided to lean into his convictions even MORE. He sasses out his senior and isn't put off by his lover ghosting him. Luckily for them the people in Jae Won's life figured themselves out and apologized, because Ji Hyun was not going to put up with more of their bullshit. I would do anything for this man and I fully believe if pushed he would do anything for his.

Noey Watplu, I Will Knock You

Noey is a kid who ended up running a gang mostly out of care for his community. He thinks he's so much tougher than he is, but his bravado and endless self-confidence get him through so much. Still, if he hadn't turned away from that gangster lifestyle, he definitely would have gotten in trouble at some point and I would have been with the other aunties at the food stalls helping deal with the mess.

Dung from Mr Cinderella S2

He has had a rough life, but is extremely kind, and I always stan a man who stays beside his in the face of external threats, but who also has healthy boundaries about how he's treated. The people in Khoa's life who keep messing with their relationship in both seasons....I'm not advocating murder, but if they happened to die, I would be there helping make sure they didn't mess with them anymore.

Ueangphueng and Fongkaew, I Feel You Linger in the Air

I just want these women to be happy and safe (with Mai). And if there's anyone on this list who deserved to murder someone as a treat, it's them. I love so much that they teamed up to take down their husband. I love so much that they found strength in one another. I would absolutely help them bury whoever they needed me to. And in a time when justice would not have been served for what they actually experienced, do I think they could have gone there if they hadn't found the other evidence to take him down? Absolutely, and I respect them for it.

Namnuea, Wedding Plan

This is cheating against my own rules because I don't think he would actually kill anyone but I'd do it for him and I know he'd help me hide the body so I'm counting it. I love this man. He also could technically fit into the ending category because he is (rightfully) surrounded by people who love and protect him, but count me in.

Amane, If It's With You

This is now just a favourites list but listen. I was ready to throw down for him immediately re: that high school crush, and as we got more of him and saw how brave he was through this series my love grew exponentially. He is mine and I would protect him in any way necessary, including helping him bury a very unlikely body.

Hira, My Beautiful Man

I love Kiyoi as a character so much and want desperately to protect him, but I don't need to we have Hira for that. Hira, on the other hand, canonically fantasizes about murdering his classmates because they're a little mean to Kiyoi, he's way more likely to need my help. And I love his complete disaster self so much. His arc is so slow across the seasons/movie and I know some folks got frustrated with him but he's starting from such an incredibly messed up place that the way his growth spirals makes perfect sense and is very relatable.

Koki, One Room Angel

This guy keeps getting into gang fights even though he's not in a gang, he's very likely to need me. And as a stoic, sad, quietly kind and perpetually misunderstood gay man, he immediately fell into my Love Forever and Protect With All of my Might bucket.

Kat, the Warp Effect

Listen, Kat could and would (and yes I chose this gif intentionally to invoke Wild Things). She doesn't need to because she has a wonderful group of friends who rally around her, but if anything else went down in her life and she had to choose violence, I'd be there with a shovel.

Ryunosuke, Tokyo in April Is...

I don't mean to imply that we want to murder our protagonists lol All three of the men in this show could ask me to bury a body and I'd say yes, but Ryunosuke is the one who might actually take advantage. Ryunosuke was fully evaluating Kazuma in this scene and he had good reason to. I fully believe if he found Kazuma wanting he'd find a way to make him disappear if he had to. In any case, Ryunosuke is in my bucket of favourite characters from this year and I would do anything for him.

Uea, Middleman's Love

It's cheating that he's here because really the people I'd love to help him bury were all in Bed Friend but in my defense I'll say that his energy in this show was 100% "if you hurt Jade who is too precious to exist I will end you", and I support him on this.

Misaki, Me, My Husband, and my Husband's Boyfriend

This woman went through so much self-reflection and growth. At the start of the show she couldn't hurt anyone but herself, but by the end? She was ready to hold boundaries and fight for her own happiness even if she doesn't yet know what that is and I am here to support that even if it turns out to be violence. I can't find any gifs of her in her happiness and I'm very sad about it

Nai, Shadow the Series

Dan is a monsterfucker and so he has my whole heart, but Nai is the one most likely to need my services. While Dan is in his feelings and obsessed with the supernatural mystery in the show, Nai is in the real world gathering information, setting up their bully as a fall guy, and generally being brilliant. Here for him and all his gay wrongs.

in season 1 i always related a lot to hira because my symptoms of asd overlapped with his of aspd but season 2 and kiyoi’s “they’re not hard words. when will he say he likes me” hit me in the fucking stomach. never have i ever felt so represented in a scene because i would do a lot of things but to confess to someone who shows obvious signs of liking me when i could be completely wrong and be rejected or worse find out they did like me and then stopped? not one of them.

Oh they're back, my beautiful boys are back! And they're all domestic and they're both insecure and it's all just GORGEOUS. I love them so very much.

Kiyoi had some marvellous expressions, from his 'omg what are you doing' glare at Mr Suspicious (ha!) and his lip biting and his jealousy. And Hira is still wonderfully odd.

Whoever cast this series is a genius. Yagi Yusei is incandescent and Hagiwara Riku a marvellous Hira - so gawky but also secretly handsome (in a proper romance cliche way, where the heroine takes off her glasses and lets down her hair and suddenly she's beautiful).

Ahh - my heart is full.

Kiyoi is laying in Hira's lap. And Hira is so clueless as to what someone would do in this situation, but oh so happy.

"It's as if I could hear his heart through the stare of his eyes." Meanwhile, Kiyoi's face speaks volumes. It's just Hira doesn't know how to decode it, lol.

"Since this moment is so precious. I want to keep it forever." both are such poetic souls.

"Hira, are you really going to stay with me forever"

Hira yelling because he's out of ginger ale. 🤣🤣🤣 Kiyoi calling Hira creepy is essentially calling him a spaz and he is right. That is Hira charm and annoyance. It's like me, I come with all these issues due to my complex history. My husband would tell you that you don't get spice with vanilla cake. Meaning, if you want the spice and flavor, then you got to put up with the heat. Kiyoi's life may never be calm, but it won't ever be boring either.

"Why do I feel this way towards a guy like him?" Because he's the only one that gives you what you need, bud. You need that hero worship that the spaz gives you. So in essence, you're every bit as dorky. You just hide it better.

I need Koyama to find someone because I really think him and Hira could be good friends. If he weren't hung up.

We are really getting a deeper look at Kiyoi, and I'm loving it! Oh, no! Mr. Creepy! There are two of them so similar, except he likes Anna. Okay, not the same because Hira is a softy and this guy got a dangerous factor.

"The guy I like waits for me and makes food for me." He is very subby sub, all you need is to have him waiting for you at the door when you get home. "This is happiness. Our feelings won't change. They'll continue on forever. That's what I believe." Then dorky Hira freaks out about being kissed. He apologizes for falling asleep early. This is actually a thing. Like tonight, I won't be home until later, my husband will wait up for me until I get home. Doesn't matter how early he has to work. If he does accidentally fall asleep, he'll freak. Some Doms really will call ahead and have the submissive waiting at the door. It just depends on personal guidelines and what the couples in the relationship want.

I admit, I'm thrilled at Kiyoi calling Hira his man.

Look at him commanding Hira. You will submit and entry. Hira tries to say he can't but Kiyoi won't stand for it. Foot is being put all the way down. He might not be Master anymore, but he is still the Dom. And he's throwing down some guidelines. Love it! The jealousy is cute too!
