this like. really really really hits a nerve for me in an acutely painful way but. the way alicent has always been openly resentful and dismissive of aegon since he was a preteen, and has physically beaten him and been overtly emotionally incestuous and crossed significant physical boundaries with him and. aemond was always her little baby who she wanted to coddle and protect but she never. actually did anything to protect him from aegon. just like she never actually did anything to protect helaena from him, and actually championed their betrothal even when rhaenyra presented a politically desireable alternative. and now that aemond is an adult and a kinslayer she will plainly and unabashedly call him a monster to anyone that will listen. but she won't. ever admit how she failed him. just like she will tell aegon nothing is expected of him and he should sit contentedly as a figurehead while the adults make decisions. because she has never actually permitted him to make any of his own decisions. because decisions have consequences. and up until brother barbeque, anything aegon did was something alicent would clean up.
